The Nova Western Inc
Organizations have an enormous responsibility deciding on which project to pursue since poor
decisions can be financially devastating on the firm. In order to stack the odds further in their favor
and render the smartest verdict in which projects to invest their time and money in organizations use
something called Project selection models to facilitate the best possible out–come. There are two
general classes of Project selection models to assistance in decision making, the numeric and the
non–numeric. There are so many possibilities of models a firm can choose from in their selecting
process and they can range from the simple to more complex. The numeric model uses numbers or
mathematical equations as its decision model; it's usually more complex and deals more with the–
bottom–line. Non–numeric relies more on using other data by weighing the importance of certain
criteria. It's the company's overall objectifies that facilitates which model they decide to go with. In
the Nova Western, Inc case study the company is deciding on which new product line to go with for
their next project. The two independent groups working on the project screening process have come
up with the two top prospects, unfortunately, each report yielded different results. One evaluation

Nova Western Inc. case study absolutely shows the importance of picking the correct method for
your organizations goals. It similarly shows that the one–size–fits all mentality doesn't work when it
comes to picking which project selection methods. I think this company would have performed
better by going with a more complex in depth method in determining the better choice of project to
go with. From the list of model options the text goes over I believe Nova Western Inc. would have
been smarter to go with the Profile

1977 Halifax Explosion
The city of Halifax provokes the tragic memories of the 1977 Halifax Explosion (Halifax History
Facts and Timeline, 2016). However, Halifax is the provincial capital of Nova Scotia and it is
famous for its magnificent Atlantic coast. Also, Halifax has undergone huge urban development and
economic growth and is now recognized as one of the largest coastal cities in Canada regarding its
historical, physical, economic and cultural diversities.(62) Halifax has a long settlement history.
Centuries ago, Halifax was occupied by the native, Mi'kmaq and the French speaking Acadians who
lived alongside the east Atlantic coast. In 1749, British colonel, Edward Cornwallis with about 2500

a unique city. Immigration plays a crucial role in creating cultural diversities such as different races,

about 9000 immigrants (Nova Scotia Immigration Trends 2008–2012, 2013). the top three countries

Basketball in NS Essay
Basketball was first introduced to Nova Scotia as early as 1895 but in the past thirty years the
popularity of the sport has really taken off. The high concentration of universities in the province,
the tradition and esteem of the high school programs, and the continued support from a large and
knowledgeable basketball community have made the game a staple of Nova Scotia life, culminating
with the capital city of Halifax becoming known as the basketball capital of Canada. When you talk
about basketball in the Maritimes you can break it down into different levels of competition. There
are the club systems throughout the province, the regional and provincial teams, then high school

Another first time winner was Halifax West as traditional powerhouses from Queen Elizabeth and
St. Patrick's faced greater competition. Another sign of the game's popularity was the fact that it was
being played in the summer time. After watching rare broadcasts of NBA playoffs, in which one of
the halftime events was pitting the greatest players in the game one on one, this format was adopted
in Halifax and tournaments were held with the winner gaining bragging rights throughout the city.
At the university level, Brian Heaney took over as coach of the St. Mary's Huskies. The former
Acadia superstar took over the Huskies in 1971 and for the next eight years under his reign St.
Mary's replaced Acadia as the premiere basketball squad in the province. During the decade St.
Mary's won the national championships in 1973, 78, and 79 respectively and reached the finals on
two other occasions. The Axemen remained highly competitive and won the nationals in 1971 and
1977. They were a formidable opponent for the Huskies, which resulted in one of the greatest
intercollegiate rivalries in the province's history. "The two strong teams made the Atlantic
Universities Athletic Association the strongest conference in the country for the first time as Acadia
or SMU captured five national championships during the decade." (1) Some of the star university
players during that time period were Mickey

Compare And Contrast Nova Scotia And Acadians
The Acadians lived in Nova Scotia, part of the French dominion in North America. However, France
was not as interested on the territory where the Acadians lives, as they were in the mainland territory
of New France (present day Quebec). On the other hand, from an early date the British showed
interest on the territory where the Acadians were located. The territory of Nova Scotia is located in a
strategic geographic locations that is the entrance to New France. The British attempted,
unsuccessfully, three times to capture Acadia. However, on their fourth attempt they were able to
capture the territory. In The Treaty of Utrecht of 1713, the French succeeded Acadia to the British.
For the most part, the Acadians were allowed to continue with their

Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia, one of the three Maritime and one of the four Atlantic provinces of Canada, bordered
on the north by the Bay of Fundy, the province of
New Brunswick, Northumberland Strait, and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and on the east, south, and
west by the Atlantic Ocean. Nova Scotia consists primarily of a mainland section, linked to New
Brunswick by the Isthmus of Chignecto, and Cape
Breton Island, separated from the mainland by the Strait of Canso. On July 1,
1867, Nova Scotia became one of the founding members of the Canadian
Confederation. The province's name, which is Latin for New Scotland, was first applied to the

1978)–have been unable to bring the local economy up to parity with the rest of
Canada. Despite a rate of economic growth that exceeded the national average from the mid–1980s
through the early 1990s, Nova Scotia, like other Maritime provinces, remains one of the less

Pursuing A Master 's Degree Of Mental Health Counseling...
I am writing to inform you of my strong interest in pursuing a Master's Degree in Mental Health
Counseling with Nova Southeastern University for the Fall 2016 program. I earned my Bachelor's of
Science Degree with a double major in Psychology and Research from The University of North
Florida in 2013. For the past three years I have worked for Gateway Community Services as an
Adolescent Outpatient Counselor. I am looking forward to continuing my education with Nova
Southeastern University.
I come from a small military family where neither of my parents graduated high school. My parents
divorced when I was two and left my mother as the sole provider for three children. Over the next
few years I experienced severe personal trauma that would change the course of my life. At the age
of 15 I dropped out of school, left home, and began working to support myself. The highest level of
education I completed at that time was the eighth grade. In my early twenties I became a single
mother of two girls. Because of the financial struggles that I endured due to not continuing my
education I clearly emphasized the importance of getting a college education to both of my children.
One particular discussion that I was having at the dinner table where I was enforcing the
"requirement" of college for my children; my youngest daughter questioned me in the most innocent
way, " Mommy? Why is it so important for us to go to college when you didn't even finish high
school?" at that moment my life

Terra Nova Consulting Essay
Written Case Assignment #2
1. Terra Nova is currently at a turning point in the company's timeline. Until recently, the company
has been successful and growing and a leader in its industry. The financial downturns the company
is currently experiencing are due to the complacency that started in top management and, in order to
fix this situation, there must be multiple changes made. There is a large social disconnect between
the younger and more senior members of the firm. Although Terra Nova has a hierarchical structure
based on skill and demonstrated results, in recent years the senior partners received more support
from the company leaders and benefits while the junior professionals feel undervalued and
unappreciated. Because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4. There is a lack of strong leadership at Terra Nova. One key tenant of Terra Nova was that the
employees were intended to have 100% ownership of the firm with share ownership not restricted to
partners and no majority shareholder leadership dictation. The founders felt that the firm would not
survive without the employee ownership aspect; employee ownership creates an emotional and
financial attachment to the job and provides a sense of community. Unfortunately, as the finances at
Terra Nova declines, junior employees declined to purchase ownership in the company and the
senior partners refused to increase their shares which reduced cash flow within Terra Nova. 5. If
O'Reilly does not initiate change, there are several consequences that could possibly occur. If Terra
Nova continues its slow financial decline, the company will find it difficult to recruit top young
talent. Young employees are demanding more and more from their companies; money alone is no
longer enough to ensure effective recruitment. If Terra Nova cannot attract employees successfully,
universities and other recruitment centers and programs will remove Terra Nova from their list of
recommended firms. Initiating change is not an immediate process and careful steps need to be
taken in order to ensure that change occurs effectively and that change is sustained. 6. In order to

NOVA Personal Statement
Being enrolled at NOVA (Northern Virginia Community College) was a choice made out of
necessity. Coming to the states from Malaysia resulted in a lot of my previously earned University
credits becoming worthless. Also due to the staggeringly high currency rate, which is 4MYR to

Although I am currently enrolled at NOVA, I do not plan to complete my education here. I am
currently taking subjects that are required by Virginia Polytechnic institute and state university

Born in New York City, Artie Shaw would become one of the top bandleaders in the swing era. He
began his musical career as a highly sought–after alto saxophone player in the New York area, and
was able to benefit from the growth of radio and studio recordings. As he perfected his technical
ability with various dance bands, he was still relatively unknown in the early 30's when he began to
focus exclusively on the Clarinet while Swing music began to grow in popularity.
While we may carefully analyze the two pieces to satisfy our curiosity regarding musical evolution
in Jazz, we should also not lose sight of the fact that these are two very enjoyable styles of music.

Later that year, Jobim was invited along with other Brazilian artists to perform in the US as Bossa
Nova grew into a very popular musical fad. Several other Jazz groups adjusted their styles, releasing
many Bossa Nova songs until the trend fell from popularity in the late 1960's. Jobim continued to
perform with small groups around the world to appreciative audiences until shortly before his death,
securing his reputation as one of the great songwriters of Jazz music in the 20th century.
"Begin the Beguine" was recorded in July 1938 by a swing orchestra led by Artie Shaw on the
clarinet as the lead soloist. His big band was composed of 3 trumpet players, 3 trombones, 2 alto
saxophones, 2 tenor sax players, and a rhythm section including piano, guitar, bass, and drums. As
the song begins with the clarinet solo and muted trumpets, the swing feel becomes clear to the
listener. The rhythm section keeps a steady beat of 4 beats per measure throughout, and the solos are
carefully defined and organized with the drums or the trumpets occasionally helping to bridge gaps
between various sections of the song until the Clarinet finally leads the band to a conclusion.
"Desafinado" was recorded in February 1962 by a small jazz group of six skilled musicians. The
"front men" for this recording was Stan Getz on Tenor Sax and Charlie Byrd on the guitar. A rhythm
guitar, bass, drums, and percussionist formed the rhythm section for this famous Bossa Nova tune.

PEST:
Political Factors: (2013 liberal platform)
The Nova Scotian provincial government is aware of the situation it's in and has been encouraging
all citizens and municipal governments to take action.
With the Liberal party's success at the recent elections, there is going to be significant political
change coming to Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia has been suffering economically and socially for the past three decades and the newly
elected government are eager to introduce new solutions to help Nova Scotia recover and prosper.
One of the changes focus on is implementing new regulations that will create a competitive
environment for businesses to thrive in. Also they will be looking to retaining Nova Scotian talent.
The liberal party has also promised to create an economic environment that will stimulate new
sustainable jobs.
Another important part of the Liberal party's platform is their focus on helping Nova Scotian
businesses and entrepreneurs, and also to improve the accountability for government and loans to
business.
Economic Factors: By analyzing the economic factors we can see that Nova Scotia's economic
growth was last among the Canadian provinces over the last two decades when measured as the total
percentage increase of gross domestic product (GDP).
In 2013, Nova Scotia's GDP per capital was ninth out of the ten provinces, and it is expected to drop
from about 943,000 to 878,000 by 2040, a 7% decline. –Implications for the Future:

Nova Chemical
Overview:
Nova Chemicals operates in both the basic and specialty chemicals segments. The IPD division that
produced basic chemicals is under review for sale to United Chemicals due to its apparent poor
performance. On further review it appears that the offer of $160 million is much lower than the
actual value once the R&D expense is reallocated. At the same time since the IPD division does not
share synergies with the other divisions it is recommended to either spin off the division or institute
a tracking stock to make its actual value transparent to the market and thereby prepare it for a future
sale. In order to raise the capital for a capacity expansion for the high growth Environmental
Products division we recommend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, United Chemical's offer of $160 million is well under the value of the IPD. According to
our valuation, Nova could sell IPD for a price between $256 million and $501 million.
The case indicates that United would not negotiate and there were no other offers on the table. We
recommend that Nova turn down United's offer and instead either spin off the division or institute a
tracking stock to make its actual value transparent to the market and thereby prepare it for a future
sale.
Effect of separating IPD from Nova
By divesting IPD, Nova could focus on its specialty chemicals business, which would experience
heavy investments and rapid growth in the coming years. While specialty chemicals may need to
now source raw material from the market instead of IPD it maybe for the better since IPD was
operating at a cost disadvantage. Our calculations also show that the rest of Nova, namely LPD and
EPD, could do much better without IPD. The combination of LPD and EPD could be worth $920
million, according to projected cash flows derived from the pro forma income statement. If this
value were realized, the value/sales ratio would be 2.5, which is much higher than the industry
average of 0.7. The combination of LPD and EPD could be a star in the market!

Movie Review : Two Movies
Two movies base on comic books written in 1963 and 2008. The Avengers first written in 1963 then
made it to the theater in 2012, is a group of superheroes brought together to save the world. The
Guardians of the Galaxy first appeared in 2008, later made into a movie in 2014 is a group of
scavengers and killers work together to save the galaxy. Both movies were action packed and filled
with humor and story. The character's interaction with each other, the humor, and animation were
written very well into the movie.
The Avengers is made up of six people and one leader that doesn't fight with them: Thor, Iron Man
aka Tony Stark, Captain America aka Steve Rogers, Hulk aka Bruce Banner, Black Widow aka
Natalia Romanova or Natasha Romanoff, Hawkeye aka Clint Barton, and Nick Fury. Nick Fury
works for a secret organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. that very few people know about including the
government. He makes the decisions with the restrictions made by the council of four government
officials that know about the agency. He pulls together these secret agents and superheroes to defend
against the villain Loki, who has the tesseract, a shining blue cube that can create a portal to the
other side of the universe. The council is against this decision, but it is urgent so they let him do it
anyways. Each character has their own style of doing things and personalities that makes it hard for
the team to work together at first. As the movie goes on they start to like each other more. After a

Short-period Oscillations in Super-Soft Novae
The Super Soft Source (SSS) phase of novae is the last major evolutionary phase during which the
hottest layers closest to the surface of the white dwarf can be observed until the hydrogen content of
the accreted material is consumed or ejected. The X–ray and UV evolution of novae during their
outbursts has been determined using
Swift monitoring observations. Deeper, continuous XMM–Newton and
Chandra observations have been taken, guided by the long–term evolution determined by Swift. The
time when bright SSS emission becomes visible, the turn–on time of the SSS phase, depends on the
evolution of the nova ejecta. Accurate predictions are currently not possible from evolutionary
models, but empirical scaling relations have recently been derived from population studies (Henze et
al. 2013;
Schwarz et al. 2011). Their predictive power is not yet well established, and Swift is still needed to
study the X–ray evolution of individual novae and to guide deeper X–ray observations.
The first Swift monitoring campaign of a nova was performed during the 2006 outburst of the
recurrent nova RSOph, and Osborne et al. (2006) found short–period oscillations around
35 s in some but not all X–ray observations taken during the SSS phase. This transient signal in
RSOph has been studied in more detail by Osborne et al. (2011). The period was first seen on day
32.9 after outburst and last detected on day 58.8, consistent with the onset into the decline.

Acadian Natives
Acadians are the descendants of a group of French–speaking settlers who migrated from coastal
France in the late sixteenth century to establish a French colony called Acadia in the maritime
provinces of Canada and part of what is now the state of Maine. Forced out by the British in the
mid–sixteenth century, a few settlers remained in Maine, but most resettled in southern Louisiana
and are popularly known as Cajuns.
Before 1713, Acadia was a French colony pioneered mostly by settlers from the coastal provinces of
Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and Poitou–a region that suffered great hardships in the late sixteenth
and early seventeenth centuries. In 1628, famine and plague followed the end of a series of religious
wars between Catholics and Protestants. When social tensions in coastal France ripened, more than
10,000 people left for the colony founded by Samuel Champlain in 1604 known as "La Cadie" or
Acadia. The area, which included what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island,
and part of Maine, was one of the first European colonies in North America. The Company of New
France recruited colonists from coastal France as indentured servants. Fishermen, farmers, and

country of liberty and independence against Great Britain. Although the fourteenth colony, Nova

Their indecisive commitment kept them in between the two sides as they would "patiently wait,
aloof from the conflict, until they were either "liberated" by the Americans or absolutely certain that
the British would retain effective control of Nova Scotia." (qtd in Bennett pg 135) Neutrality had
many benefits including increased trade with the British forces for the Halifax merchants, as Bennett
states "Material incentive and the prospect of war profits secured the vocal support and loyalty of
some Nova Scotians". (qtd in Bennett 142). Most people were heavily reliant on the British Navy
for protection and continued to supply British troops for their own benefits. (Bennett 142) Also,
Halifax was the center of a large British naval and military base. As Wilms states "the strong
military presence made it virtually impossible for any sort of active revolution." (qtd in Wilms)
Although their influence did not stretch across all of the settlements the base provided simple trade
and protection from warfare. This influenced many to stay neutral even if their fundamental beliefs
had most likely lied with the rebels. (Bennett 139)
Overall, based on multiple influences Nova Scotia decided to reside in the American Revolution and

According to Cinemablend, specifications for each role point to major characters. The new list led to
deductions about the movie's antagonists and other major characters. The first character that is
mentioned in it is called Louis. He is described as man who is elegant and intelligent. The
description of Louis as an appealing entrepreneur with a dark side led to rumors that the name Louis
refers to the key villain Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mr. Sinister. The description seems to match
the character of Mr. Sinister in all the points. Additionally, the list names a female named Vera who
is in her mid '20s and early '30s. She is described as tough, fiery, beautiful, smart and unpredictable.
Reports suggest that this description belongs to the female lead in "Gambit" Bella Donna
Boudreaux. The character is a childhood friend of Remy LeBeau or Gambit himself. The list also
describes a young man named Nash who is in his mid '20s and early '30s and a malevolent threat. It
is also stated that he is the heir to his mother's business. The description led to conclusions that Nash

Chevy Nova
Marketing its used by most business. Marketing is a process where a business finds the way to
transmit a message to its consumers. The message every business wants their consumers to know is
why they should choose their service or products instead of those of the competitors. Marketing it's
not just one thing, marketing is advertising, customer service, what they hear or see about the
business, what they get from choosing you. People who are in charge of marketing should really be
careful in the words they use or the way they will be trying to get consumers. With just one word or
a doubtful action it could be enough to loose consumers.
One example of using the wrong words is that of the Chevy car name "Nova." This car came out in
1962 the sales were good in the United States but when trying to take it the Latin market it did not
go as good. First of all, "Nova" in Spanish is something like "it doesn't go." This would affect the
market because people would refer to the car as something that does not work, just like the name
says it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though it is saying "it doesn't go" the people working behind the product worked hard to give
their customers a good product and service. They were always ethical and about giving a good
outcome of the car. When it comes down to making decisions and your job is on risk you have to
make what best works for the business. Often unethical decisions are being made, as long as a
company gets result they don't always care about the strategies or tactics they had to used. When
advertising a product or service I feel that the truth in that is also an oxymoron. For example, the
advertisement to lose weight without exercising, or lose 6 pounds in one week are most likely to be
false which is unethical because you are promising your client something that most likely won't
happen but those lines would get you the

American Revolution Loyalists
Only a tiny fraction of the books written on the American Revolution are devoted to the loyalists –
the residents of the 13 colonies who chose to leave their homes rather than become citizens of the
new republic. Such a nation–bound approach to the writing of American history implies that the
lives of those who left were not significant. Yet they were, and Maya Jasanoff, who teaches history
at Harvard, has provided a richly informative account of those who made the choice to embrace
imperial Britain. As earlier historians of the Revolution have pointed out, the loyalists tended to
have strong connections to the imperial administration, belong to the Anglican Church and possess
close business or family ties to Britain. But not all who left fitted ... Show more content on

Near the end of the Paris peace negotiations that ended the war, a small but important amendment
was added to the resulting treaty that prohibited the British from "carrying away any Negroes, or
other property." When he became aware of this proviso, Sir Guy Carleton, the commander of British
forces in North America, acted. Charged with the task of evacuating 20,000 troops and 35,000
loyalists from New York, he made securing the freedom of the black loyalists a priority. He
expedited the provision of documents establishing their freedom and hurried them onto a fleet of
ships headed for Nova Scotia. The speed of this sequence of events infuriated George Washington.
But Carleton responded that it was a matter of honor. "The Negroes in question," he explained, "I
found free when I arrived in New York, I had therefore no right . . . to prevent their going to any part
of the world they thought proper." Earlier, when Lord Dunmore, the colonial governor of Virginia,
promised freedom to bondsmen who joined the British forces, as many as 20,000 – including slaves
belonging to Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry – made the risky decision to escape.
Jasanoff refers to this as an "emancipation," though she might better have described it as a slave
revolt, larger than any the Americas had yet to

Essay on Bossa Nova, the Misunderstood
Brett Dorman
World Music
Prof. Searles
Bossa Nova: The Misunderstood
" Tall and tan and young and lovely,
The girl from Ipanena goes walking and,
When she passes each one she passes goes, ‘Ahh.' "
These are the first lyrics of, probably, one of the most famous bossa nova songs sung by Frank
Sinatra. The melody of the song is as smooth as the singer, the rhythm is laid back, and the lyrics are
simple. Unfortunately, Frank Sinatra's portrayal of this Bossa Nova classic is detrimental to the
music's image. The Bossa Nova should not just be considered lounge music, for it is much more
than that. The Bosa Nova is a style of Latin music that has subtle complexities and deserves much
more credit than is given; once people have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bataria has three primary instruments, the surdoo, agogo, and tambourine. The surdo is a
membranophone that acts as a bass drum and normally comes in three different sizes that vary in
pitch. These instruments are the heart of the entire ensemble. The tambourine is also a
membranophone that is normally played with one stick while the hand that holds the drum is used to
mute which helps accentuate some beats and muffle others. The agogo acts as the melodic
instrument even though there are only two notes that can be played. The agogo is an idiophone that
resembles two different sized cow bells attached together.
Samba is normally played at a fast tempo and contains many overlapping complicated rhythms
accentuate the first note while playing in duple meter. Also, a lot of the time you will hear an
emphasis on threes while playing in duple (you will either hear this through accents or triplets).
When listening, we can hear the syncopation between the different rhythms due to the polyrhythm
of the music. One might ask how samba then relates to the Bossa Nova if the music itself is fast,
loud, and has an emphasis on percussion and not so much melody or lyrics. The structure of the
Bossa Nova is pretty much identical to that of samba except much more laid back; it is "samba
broken down to its bare essentials" (The Brazilian Sound, 55). However, the structure is not the only
aspect of samba that relates to the bossa nova, the melody is similar as well. The bossa nova

Essay On Bossa Nova
As Christopher Small, it is true that there is no culture ever disappears but it is transformed over and
over again through the new one (Small, On cultures and their fusion 1998). Bossa nova, means „new
trend‟, is a kind of Brazilian music that is transformed by two fusion; samba and strong American
jazz influenced (Wikipedia). It was known in 1957 and 1963 especially among young students and
musicians who would like to bring a complicated combination of melody to be harmony and be
more relaxing rather than using powerful voice and strong meaning. According to Tom Jobim, one
of the fathers of bossa nova, said "music is the silence between the notes" (Just landed 2016). The

Bossa nova becomes well–known in worldwide; not only in Brazil and North
America. It is because of convenient communication and easier crossing borders among different
national people by new technologies (Administrator_v 2006). The transnationalism makes the world
be „hybridization‟ and deterritorialization because places are reproducing and transformation in the

Moreover, most of the current music is produced for business term without recognition of the

Appeal for My Academic Dismissal from NOVA Southern...
I am writing to appeal my academic dismissal from NOVA Southeastern University. I was not
surprised, but very upset to receive a notice of my dismissal. I sat out for a year and would like to be
accepted for the upcoming semester. I admit, I had a very difficult time during my last semester and
as a result my grades suffered. I don't mean to make excuses for my poor academic performance and
I understand it's my fault, but I would like to explain the circumstances as well as my great interest
in the program.
Besides graduating from college, being accepted into the Counseling program at NOVA
Southeastern University was the greatest day of my life. I was on my way to a much greater success
by working on my Master. Paying for college out of pocket was a struggle, but I understand that
success comes with great sacrifices. However, I wouldn't really call paying out of pocket for school
a sacrifice, but rather an investment in my future and my family. My first semester went marvelous.
I was motivated and enthusiastic about the courses. I must admit graduate school is much harder
than I imagine, but I manage to make time for studying and ended making A's in both of my classes,
which I didn't expect less than that. When the summer semester I arrived, I was as excited and
motivated as my very first semester, aiming to make nothing less than an A grades. However,
unexpectedly my world seemed to have turned upside down in a matter of time. My mother and I

Essay on The Mi’kmaq Way of Life
The Mi'kmaq Way of Life Mi'kmaq was the spelling of a tribe of Indians that had first contact with
European explorers in the sixteenth and seventeenth century. Through the years, the name has been
changed to what we know today as Mic Mac. The word Mi'kmaq derives from the word nikmak,
which means "my kin–friends" or allies. The rich and descriptive Mi'kmaq language was a member
of the Algonkin family. Although every Mi'kmaq can understand each other, the dialect varies
between bands. For example, the Mi'kmaq spoken in Quebec differs from that in Nova Scotia. The
Mi'kmaq tribe settled in southwestern New Foundland in 1630. They were the "first nation people"

A net, called an abi, was made with intertwined tree branches. The bait that they used for fishing
was called wa'adegon. Fishhooks were made out of copper or a hook shaped bone that was
sharpened at both ends. For larger fish, a leister was used. This tool was a three–pronged spear.
There was a center point and two points that came out on each side of the middle point. Lobsters and
shellfish were dug out of the seabed with sticks and roasted on coals, (Nova Scotia 2–3; Wallis and
Wallis 27–28; Davis 27).
Hunting meat changed when the seasons did. During the summer, animals such as moose, caribou,
deer, beaver, and porcupine were stalked on foot. Porpoise, walrus, and seal were hunted in the
water by canoe in the water. In the winter, they would break. A beavers dam and crack the ice in 40–

were the Mi'kmaq's most productive food and were hunted from February to mid March. Meat and
fish would then be dried and smoked to preserve them. Berries, roots and edible plants were also a
source of food for the Mi'kmaq, (Nova Scotia 3; Davis 27).
The gear used for hunting was mostly man made. Some of items used for hunting were animal bone,
teeth, claws, hair, quills, shells, clay, stone, wood, roots and bark. Grinding stone to a sharp edge and

Settlement in the Canadian Maritime Provinces Essay
Introduction
"New France was not merely the settlement of a few fur traders." The Acadians were "a pastoral–
like people who once formed a proud nation in a land called Acadia." Although falling under the
jurisdiction of "New France," the Acadians governed separately than the rest of the country and
were an independent entity within New France. Today, "the Acadians are the French speaking
population of the Canadian Maritime provinces," and these are the Acadians that were not displaced
during the expulsions, under British rule. Acadia's beginnings, with the construction of Port Royal,
could have marked the colony for success, but instead, led to a troubling conclusion for the

This settlement became the capital of Acadia and would remain so until the expulsion in 1713,
interrupted only for three years, from 1610–1613, when Port Royal briefly fell under British rule.
Although the population of Port Royal grew slowly at first, the French settlers lived well, farming
and hunting. However, Port Royal was difficult to navigate, due to the constant flooding and
unstable building materials.
Although [in 1687] Port Royal is the largest settlement, it contains only nine or ten buildings the
others being barns. All the houses are low, made of pieces of wood ... covered with thatch.
Despite the fertile ground, providing the Acadians with a diverse diet, it would be a struggle to
defend Port Royal in times of discord. The fort itself also often fell into disrepair, as it was difficult
to maintain when flooding constantly eroded the riverbank. Due to this fertile ground, Port Royal
became desirable to the growing British empire. Despite the failing fort, the British settlers became
interested in Port Royal and realized the potential of the marshland. "Farming was the main, but not
only, occupation of the Acadians." These people successfully grew a diverse diet including root
vegetables, grains, fruit, and other vegetables, as well as raising pigs, cattle, and sheep. This aided in
flourishment of the Acadian people but also turned the settlement into a potential conquest for the
English Colonies.

NOVA Program
From what we have learned throughout this semester about gangs and gang life I personally feel that
the NOVA program is without a doubt a program worth exploring and plugging into gang ridden
neighborhoods. In the explanaition of the program they make it very clear that they have the goal in
mind to "build a new life that does not include violent crime". From what we have learned from our
books and videos, gang members join for many reasons but the big 2 being money and protection. If
the program could help these young men find a solid job and remove them from these
neighborhoods than both of those excuses for joining gangs will no longer be a concern. I do believe
it is a worthwhile approach because of the three prong system they seem to follow. The most
important one being helping men find an alternative to gang life. This is unique because we always
focus on how to prosecute or take gang memebers off the streets but we tend to not focus on how to
rehabilitate members or prevent gangs from growing. But when you can't reach young men and they
are causing issues on the streets we must protect these communites. The two other approaches are

But another aspect I see as being critical to the success of this program is the coming together of law
enforcement, community leaders, and churches. While law enforcement alone might not make a
dent, this combination can be quite effective. Community leaders I feel will make a big impact
because the people will be willing to listen. In crime ridden neighborhoods people might be hesitant
to listen to law enforcement because they might not be willing to trust them. But by combining the
collective effort of not only law enforcement and community leaders but churches as well, you are
creating this positive atmosphere that just might be able to reflect negative feelings and criminal

Comparing Nova And Kuchag
Contrasting Nova and Kuchag, it was established that there is a huge difference in the way they look

crucial factor to praise women. Kuchag states "Your breasts are like the morning: the more they are
revealed the more brilliant they look". In fact, he focused on the parts of the female body that
provide pleasure and desire. Kuchag writes "White breasted maid in your full skirt, I touched your
breast today, with folded hand I said a prayer". Looking at his poems, Kuchag was clearly obsessed
with the bosom and the breast of the partner to the degree of holilizing "Your Breast are the Garden

Hence, I believe he was writing about the same person all the time. This same woman was Ana, his
lover that he couldn't get because she was the daughter of the king. The burning of love awakened a

love story is the main reason that gave us the brilliant Sayat Nova. The unrest love in his soul grew
bigger and greater, in contrast to Kuchag who was a possible womanizer. Kuchag loved every single
female that he saw. Different features were observed in his writings. Maybe the sense of the
sexualization that Kuchag had, made the readers feel that way, but critics were not able to feel the
anguish of love. He didn't care about women as much as Nova. If Kuchag was ignored, he didn't go

The lack of political representation under the Union Act of 1840 provided very few rights for local
government, which was perceived as a danger if the new confederate policies were to be instituted
in 1864. In this case, William Annand's leadership in the Anti–Confederacy Party in Nova Scotia
provided more seats in the provincial legislature, which resulted in a rejection of the Quebec
resolution (Beck 56). More so, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were often marginalized in these
discussions, since they were not as economically powerful as Quebec or Ontario. In this case, the
Confederacy Party of Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Charles Tupper, had temporarily failed to
win over the people to federalization. The distrust between the Nova Scotia parliament and the
mainland provinces was a major barrier to Confederacy due to a lack of representational government
under the Union Act:
In Nova Scotia, William Annand contended: "It was a matter of very serious import to the people of
this province when they learned from such an authority that their rights and privileges were to be
swept away without their being consulted (Ajzenstat

Why Nova Scotia Failed to Join the American Revolution
Abstract: This essay discusses why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution. It discusses
the social, political, economic, geographic, as well as religious factors that led to Nova Scotians'
lack of attachment to revolutionary ideology in the colonies.
During the time of the American Revolution, Nova Scotia was geographically on the northeastern
frontier of Massachusetts. No geographical feature separated Nova Scotia from Maine, which meant
that the Canadian province was very much a part of the Massachusetts colony. The question
remains, therefore, why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution in 1776. There were,
after all, many new Englanders in Nova Scotia, and it remains a serious question as to why they did

Indeed, while Nova Scotians were close to the events themselves, the settlements in Nova Scotia
were scattered along the edges of the long, narrow peninsula. The sea was the only road between
settlements. In many respects, therefore, there simply could not have been a united Nova Scotia.
Because of this fact, it made it difficult for Nova Scotia to join in the War for Independence. People
did not really feel united enough to have a serious cause. (Rawlyck, p.220)
Thus, though Nova Scotia was very much attached to Main and to the Massachusetts colony, the
geographical structure of the colony left Nova Scotia quite isolated from neighboring towns.
Meanwhile, the British controlled the North Atlantic. One cannot deny, therefore, a factor of
intimidation in this context, therefore, for even if some Nova Scotians did support the Yankees, they
felt the presence of British troops in Halifax. The colony was simply dominated by a strong British
military presence and a support for the Revolution would have sparked fear amongst any who
sympathized with it. (Brebner, p.261) Nova Scotians were well aware that there would be a military
confrontation with the British and no issue was really worth this danger.
In any case, even if Nova Scotians had wanted to participate in the Revolution, they did not really
have the military means to do so in any case. They were weak militarily and the strong British
military presence made it virtually impossible for any sort of

In order to stack the odds further in their favor and render the smartest verdict in which projects to invest their time and money in organizations use something called Project selection models to facilitate the best possible out–come. There are two general classes of Project selection models to assistance in decision making, the numeric and the non–numeric. The numeric model uses numbers or mathematical equations as its decision model; it's usually more complex and deals more with the– bottom–line. The high concentration of universities in the province, the tradition and esteem of the high school programs, and the continued support from a large and knowledgeable basketball community have made the game a staple of Nova Scotia life, culminating with the capital city of Halifax becoming known as the basketball capital of Canada. I am writing to inform you of my strong interest in pursuing a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling with Nova Southeastern University for the Fall 2016 program. I earned my Bachelor's of Science Degree with a double major in Psychology and Research from The University of North Florida in 2013. For the past three years I have worked for Gateway Community Services as an Adolescent Outpatient Counselor. I am looking forward to continuing my education with Nova Southeastern University. I come from a small military family where neither of my parents graduated high school. My parents divorced when I was two and left my mother as the sole provider for three children. Over the next few years I experienced severe personal trauma that would change the course of my life. At the age of 15 I dropped out of school, left home, and began working to support myself. The highest level of education I completed at that time was the eighth grade. In my early twenties I became a single mother of two girls. Because of the financial struggles that I endured due to not continuing my education I clearly emphasized the importance of getting a college education to both of my children. One particular discussion that I was having at the dinner table where I was enforcing the "requirement" of college for my children; my youngest daughter questioned me in the most innocent way, " Mommy? As he perfected his technical ability with various dance bands, he was still relatively unknown in the early 30's when he began to focus exclusively on the Clarinet while Swing music began to grow in popularity. Several other Jazz groups adjusted their styles, releasing many Bossa Nova songs until the trend fell from popularity in the late 1960's. Jobim continued to perform with small groups around the world to appreciative audiences until shortly before his death, securing his reputation as one of the great songwriters of Jazz music in the 20th century. "Begin the Beguine" was recorded in July 1938 by a swing orchestra led by Artie Shaw on the clarinet as the lead soloist. His big band was composed of 3 trumpet players, 3 trombones, 2 alto saxophones, 2 tenor sax players, and a rhythm section including piano, guitar, bass, and drums. As the song begins with the clarinet solo and muted trumpets, the swing feel becomes clear to the listener. • 26. External Analysis On Nova Scotia External Analysis PEST: Political Factors: (2013 liberal platform) The Nova Scotian provincial government is aware of the situation it's in and has been encouraging all citizens and municipal governments to take action. With the Liberal party's success at the recent elections, there is going to be significant political change coming to Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia has been suffering economically and socially for the past three decades and the newly elected government are eager to introduce new solutions to help Nova Scotia recover and prosper. One of the changes focus on is implementing new regulations that will create a competitive environment for businesses to thrive in. Also they will be looking to retaining Nova Scotian talent. The liberal party has also promised to create an economic environment that will stimulate new sustainable jobs. Another important part of the Liberal party's platform is their focus on helping Nova Scotian businesses and entrepreneurs, and also to improve the accountability for government and loans to business. Economic Factors: By analyzing the economic factors we can see that Nova Scotia's economic growth was last among the Canadian provinces over the last two decades when measured as the total percentage increase of gross domestic product (GDP). In 2013, Nova Scotia's GDP per capital was ninth out of the ten provinces, and it is expected to drop from about 943,000 to 878,000 by 2040, a 7% decline. –Implications for the Future: Nova Scotia's ... The IPD division that produced basic chemicals is under review for sale to United Chemicals due to its apparent poor performance. On further review it appears that the offer of $160 million is much lower than the actual value once the R&D expense is reallocated. At the same time since the IPD division does not share synergies with the other divisions it is recommended to either spin off the division or institute a tracking stock to make its actual value transparent to the market and thereby prepare it for a future sale. However, United Chemical's offer of $160 million is well under the value of the IPD. According to our valuation, Nova could sell IPD for a price between $256 million and $501 million. The case indicates that United would not negotiate and there were no other offers on the table. We recommend that Nova turn down United's offer and instead either spin off the division or institute a tracking stock to make its actual value transparent to the market and thereby prepare it for a future sale. Effect of separating IPD from Nova By divesting IPD, Nova could focus on its specialty chemicals business, which would experience heavy investments and rapid growth in the coming years. While specialty chemicals may need to now source raw material from the market instead of IPD it maybe for the better since IPD was operating at a cost disadvantage. Our calculations also show that the rest of Nova, namely LPD and EPD, could do much better without IPD. The combination of LPD and EPD could be worth $920 million, according to projected cash flows derived from the pro forma income statement. If this value were realized, the value/sales ratio would be 2.5, which is much higher than the industry average of 0.7. The combination of LPD and EPD could be a star in the market! ... Montana Fish Synthesis Essay Alexis Bonogofsky wrote about "reports of dead fish floating and collecting on the banks of the iconic Yellowstone River began coming into Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) in early August. The Yellowstone flows for 692 miles from Absaroka mountain range in Wyoming, through Yellowstone National Park, into the prairies of eastern Montana and finally, the Missouri River. FWP officials took tissue samples from the dead fish to the US Fish and Wildlife Service Fish Health Center in nearby Bozeman, Montana. The whitefish were found to have died from Proliferative Kidney Disease (PKD), which is caused by a microscopic parasite known to occur in Canada, the United States and Europe. The Avengers first written in 1963 then made it to the theater in 2012, is a group of superheroes brought together to save the world. The Guardians of the Galaxy first appeared in 2008, later made into a movie in 2014 is a group of scavengers and killers work together to save the galaxy. Both movies were action packed and filled with humor and story. The character's interaction with each other, the humor, and animation were written very well into the movie. The Avengers is made up of six people and one leader that doesn't fight with them: Thor, Iron Man aka Tony Stark, Captain America aka Steve Rogers, Hulk aka Bruce Banner, Black Widow aka Natalia Romanova or Natasha Romanoff, Hawkeye aka Clint Barton, and Nick Fury. Nick Fury works for a secret organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. that very few people know about including the government. He makes the decisions with the restrictions made by the council of four government officials that know about the agency. He pulls together these secret agents and superheroes to defend against the villain Loki, who has the tesseract, a shining blue cube that can create a portal to the other side of the universe. Short-period Oscillations in Super-Soft Novae The Super Soft Source (SSS) phase of novae is the last major evolutionary phase during which the hottest layers closest to the surface of the white dwarf can be observed until the hydrogen content of the accreted material is consumed or ejected. The X–ray and UV evolution of novae during their outbursts has been determined using Swift monitoring observations. Deeper, continuous XMM–Newton and Chandra observations have been taken, guided by the long–term evolution determined by Swift. The time when bright SSS emission becomes visible, the turn–on time of the SSS phase, depends on the evolution of the nova ejecta. Accurate predictions are currently not possible from evolutionary models, but empirical scaling relations have recently been derived from population studies (Henze et al. 2013; Schwarz et al. 2011). Their predictive power is not yet well established, and Swift is still needed to study the X–ray evolution of individual novae and to guide deeper X–ray observations. The first Swift monitoring campaign of a nova was performed during the 2006 outburst of the recurrent nova RSOph, and Osborne et al. (2006) found short–period oscillations around 35 s in some but not all X–ray observations taken during the SSS phase. This transient signal in RSOph has been studied in more detail by Osborne et al. (2011). The period was first seen on day 32.9 after outburst and last detected on day 58.8, consistent with the onset into the decline. Independent evidence for this period was ... • 36. Acadian Natives Acadians are the descendants of a group of French–speaking settlers who migrated from coastal France in the late sixteenth century to establish a French colony called Acadia in the maritime provinces of Canada and part of what is now the state of Maine. Forced out by the British in the mid–sixteenth century, a few settlers remained in Maine, but most resettled in southern Louisiana and are popularly known as Cajuns. Before 1713, Acadia was a French colony pioneered mostly by settlers from the coastal provinces of Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and Poitou–a region that suffered great hardships in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. In 1628, famine and plague followed the end of a series of religious wars between Catholics and Protestants. When social tensions in coastal France ripened, more than 10,000 people left for the colony founded by Samuel Champlain in 1604 known as "La Cadie" or Acadia. The area, which included what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and part of Maine, was one of the first European colonies in North America. Their indecisive commitment kept them in between the two sides as they would "patiently wait, aloof from the conflict, until they were either "liberated" by the Americans or absolutely certain that the British would retain effective control of Nova Scotia." (qtd in Bennett 142). Most people were heavily reliant on the British Navy for protection and continued to supply British troops for their own benefits. (Bennett 142) Also, Halifax was the center of a large British naval and military base. As Wilms states "the strong military presence made it virtually impossible for any sort of active revolution." This influenced many to stay neutral even if their fundamental beliefs had most likely lied with the rebels. Their lack of influence on the war was largely determined by spiritual revival, economic salvation and independent ideology. The message every business wants their consumers to know is why they should choose their service or products instead of those of the competitors. Marketing it's not just one thing, marketing is advertising, customer service, what they hear or see about the business, what they get from choosing you. People who are in charge of marketing should really be careful in the words they use or the way they will be trying to get consumers. With just one word or a doubtful action it could be enough to loose consumers. One example of using the wrong words is that of the Chevy car name "Nova." This car came out in 1962 the sales were good in the United States but when trying to take it the Latin market it did not go as good. Charged with the task of evacuating 20,000 troops and 35,000 loyalists from New York, he made securing the freedom of the black loyalists a priority. He expedited the provision of documents establishing their freedom and hurried them onto a fleet of ships headed for Nova Scotia. The speed of this sequence of events infuriated George Washington. But Carleton responded that it was a matter of honor. "The Negroes in question," he explained, "I found free when I arrived in New York, I had therefore no right . . . to prevent their going to any part of the world they thought proper." The melody of the song is as smooth as the singer, the rhythm is laid back, and the lyrics are simple. Unfortunately, Frank Sinatra's portrayal of this Bossa Nova classic is detrimental to the music's image. The Bossa Nova should not just be considered lounge music, for it is much more than that. The tambourine is also a membranophone that is normally played with one stick while the hand that holds the drum is used to mute which helps accentuate some beats and muffle others. One might ask how samba then relates to the Bossa Nova if the music itself is fast, loud, and has an emphasis on percussion and not so much melody or lyrics. The structure of the Bossa Nova is pretty much identical to that of samba except much more laid back; it is "samba broken down to its bare essentials" (The Brazilian Sound, 55). In the winter, they would break. A beavers dam and crack the ice in 40– 50 different places. The beavers would then have to come out of the broken holes in the ice. Moose were the Mi'kmaq's most productive food and were hunted from February to mid March. Meat and fish would then be dried and smoked to preserve them. Berries, roots and edible plants were also a source of food for the Mi'kmaq, (Nova Scotia 3; Davis 27). The gear used for hunting was mostly man made. Some of items used for hunting were animal bone, teeth, claws, hair, quills, shells, clay, stone, wood, roots and bark. Grinding stone to a sharp edge and a smooth surface made axes. • 64. Settlement in the Canadian Maritime Provinces Essay Introduction "New France was not merely the settlement of a few fur traders." The Acadians were "a pastoral– like people who once formed a proud nation in a land called Acadia." Although falling under the jurisdiction of "New France," the Acadians governed separately than the rest of the country and were an independent entity within New France. Today, "the Acadians are the French speaking population of the Canadian Maritime provinces," and these are the Acadians that were not displaced during the expulsions, under British rule. Acadia's beginnings, with the construction of Port Royal, could have marked the colony for success, but instead, led to a troubling conclusion for the European descendents. Through failed leadership, two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This settlement became the capital of Acadia and would remain so until the expulsion in 1713, interrupted only for three years, from 1610–1613, when Port Royal briefly fell under British rule. Although the population of Port Royal grew slowly at first, the French settlers lived well, farming and hunting. However, Port Royal was difficult to navigate, due to the constant flooding and unstable building materials. Although [in 1687] Port Royal is the largest settlement, it contains only nine or ten buildings the others being barns. All the houses are low, made of pieces of wood ... covered with thatch. Despite the fertile ground, providing the Acadians with a diverse diet, it would be a struggle to defend Port Royal in times of discord. The fort itself also often fell into disrepair, as it was difficult to maintain when flooding constantly eroded the riverbank. Due to this fertile ground, Port Royal became desirable to the growing British empire. Despite the failing fort, the British settlers became interested in Port Royal and realized the potential of the marshland. "Farming was the main, but not only, occupation of the Acadians." These people successfully grew a diverse diet including root vegetables, grains, fruit, and other vegetables, as well as raising pigs, cattle, and sheep. This aided in flourishment of the Acadian people but also turned the settlement into a potential conquest for the English Colonies. Other Acadian Settlements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. NOVA Program From what we have learned throughout this semester about gangs and gang life I personally feel that the NOVA program is without a doubt a program worth exploring and plugging into gang ridden neighborhoods. In the explanaition of the program they make it very clear that they have the goal in mind to "build a new life that does not include violent crime". From what we have learned from our books and videos, gang members join for many reasons but the big 2 being money and protection. If the program could help these young men find a solid job and remove them from these neighborhoods than both of those excuses for joining gangs will no longer be a concern. I do believe it is a worthwhile approach because of the three prong system they seem to follow. The most important one being helping men find an alternative to gang life. This is unique because we always focus on how to prosecute or take gang memebers off the streets but we tend to not focus on how to rehabilitate members or prevent gangs from growing. But when you can't reach young men and they are causing issues on the streets we must protect these communites. The two other approaches are needed for added ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But another aspect I see as being critical to the success of this program is the coming together of law enforcement, community leaders, and churches. While law enforcement alone might not make a dent, this combination can be quite effective. Community leaders I feel will make a big impact because the people will be willing to listen. In crime ridden neighborhoods people might be hesitant to listen to law enforcement because they might not be willing to trust them. But by combining the collective effort of not only law enforcement and community leaders but churches as well, you are creating this positive atmosphere that just might be able to reflect negative feelings and criminal ... • 72. Comparing Nova And Kuchag Contrasting Nova and Kuchag, it was established that there is a huge difference in the way they look at women. Kuchag always found a way to sexualize the women. For him, physical appearance was a crucial factor to praise women. Kuchag states "Your breasts are like the morning: the more they are revealed the more brilliant they look". In fact, he focused on the parts of the female body that provide pleasure and desire. Kuchag writes "White breasted maid in your full skirt, I touched your breast today, with folded hand I said a prayer". Looking at his poems, Kuchag was clearly obsessed with the bosom and the breast of the partner to the degree of holilizing "Your Breast are the Garden of Paradise" and "Your breast, lamps, and candles (of the ... This same woman was Ana, his lover that he couldn't get because she was the daughter of the king. The burning of love awakened a strong adoration feeling to Ana that made him see her in every poem. I believe this unsuccessful love story is the main reason that gave us the brilliant Sayat Nova. The unrest love in his soul grew bigger and greater, in contrast to Kuchag who was a possible womanizer. Kuchag loved every single female that he saw. Different features were observed in his writings. Maybe the sense of the sexualization that Kuchag had, made the readers feel that way, but critics were not able to feel the anguish of love. He didn't care about women as much as Nova. If Kuchag was ignored, he didn't go through the sorrow of missing consolidation, unlike Nova who had serious grief problems. This could be because Kuchag didn't see the love as a feeling but as a way of pleasure or because he didn't find the true love that stole his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this world was Nova, an exotic cheetah who was as enormous as an elephant, but could still voyage the speed of light. After long and deep hibernation, Nova is awoken and has come back to formulate the world to a better place again. In the middle of Iran in a tiny hamlet is where Nova lives with his family. He assists everyone, including humans, by running miles to acquire food and water for the people who need it the most. Nova used his fast, but slow acceleration to try to find an open field where they can fight without his people thinking that he is a serial killer. They found a mini meadow with poor harvest due to the sun that they could fight on. The cheetah entombed the bear in the ground within .5 seconds because of his ability. Once again, Nova rescues his people. He comes back to the hamlet to celebrate his success. Now, the kids, adults, and animals look up to him more as a hero than before because not only did he put the hamlet in a hazard, but he killed the threat that could possibly kill numerous villagers or animals in the hamlet. • 76. Canadian Confederation This historical study will examine the complex provincial affiliations related to Canadian Confederation that demanded complex political maneuvers to unify the Anti–Confederate party and the Confederate Party to support the Quebec Resolutions of 1865. The Anti–Confederate vantage point of George Etienne Cartier's Parti Bleus was a primarily French region, which sought its own sovereign country. More so, the Atlantic/Maritime colonies of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia rejected the idea of a Canadian federal government, which was based on the political leadership of William Annand of Nova Scotia and Albert J. Smith of New Brunswick. In contrast, the Confederate leadership of James A. MacDonald in Ontario sought to unify Canada due to the rising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lack of political representation under the Union Act of 1840 provided very few rights for local government, which was perceived as a danger if the new confederate policies were to be instituted in 1864. In this case, William Annand's leadership in the Anti–Confederacy Party in Nova Scotia provided more seats in the provincial legislature, which resulted in a rejection of the Quebec resolution (Beck 56). More so, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were often marginalized in these discussions, since they were not as economically powerful as Quebec or Ontario. In this case, the Confederacy Party of Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Charles Tupper, had temporarily failed to win over the people to federalization. The distrust between the Nova Scotia parliament and the mainland provinces was a major barrier to Confederacy due to a lack of representational government under the Union Act: In Nova Scotia, William Annand contended: "It was a matter of very serious import to the people of this province when they learned from such an authority that their rights and privileges were to be swept away without their being consulted (Ajzenstat ... • 78. Why Nova Scotia Failed to Join the American Revolution Abstract: This essay discusses why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution. It discusses the social, political, economic, geographic, as well as religious factors that led to Nova Scotians' lack of attachment to revolutionary ideology in the colonies. During the time of the American Revolution, Nova Scotia was geographically on the northeastern frontier of Massachusetts. No geographical feature separated Nova Scotia from Maine, which meant that the Canadian province was very much a part of the Massachusetts colony. The question remains, therefore, why Nova Scotia failed to join the American Revolution in 1776. There were, after all, many new Englanders in Nova Scotia, and it remains a serious question as to why they did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, while Nova Scotians were close to the events themselves, the settlements in Nova Scotia were scattered along the edges of the long, narrow peninsula. The sea was the only road between settlements. In many respects, therefore, there simply could not have been a united Nova Scotia. Because of this fact, it made it difficult for Nova Scotia to join in the War for Independence. People did not really feel united enough to have a serious cause. (Rawlyck, p.220) Thus, though Nova Scotia was very much attached to Main and to the Massachusetts colony, the geographical structure of the colony left Nova Scotia quite isolated from neighboring towns. Meanwhile, the British controlled the North Atlantic. One cannot deny, therefore, a factor of intimidation in this context, therefore, for even if some Nova Scotians did support the Yankees, they felt the presence of British troops in Halifax. The colony was simply dominated by a strong British military presence and a support for the Revolution would have sparked fear amongst any who sympathized with it. (Brebner, p.261) Nova Scotians were well aware that there would be a military confrontation with the British and no issue was really worth this danger. In any case, even if Nova Scotians had wanted to participate in the Revolution, they did not really have the military means to do so in any case. They were weak militarily and the strong British military presence made it virtually impossible for any sort of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
