Iowa State University Application Essay
Things often don't go as planned in life, but sometimes it's for the better. I never actually planned on
attending Iowa State University, but now that I'm signed up to attend, I can't wait to learn more
about myself and develop through classes, clubs, and the NROTC program.
When I first applied to Iowa State University, I was originally planning on attending the University
of Illinois, and Iowa State was my backup school. Two days after I applied to Iowa State, I was
accepted. Once I told my friends, family, and mentors about my acceptance, I was told nothing but
good things. The reputation that Iowa State has established for itself is one of the best. Even one of
my small group leaders at church who graduated from University of Iowa, conceded that Iowa State
has an exceptional engineering program. At that point I started to do research about ISU, and
through research I discovered that Iowa State is ranked within the top 25 engineering programs in
the nation. That's when I took a look at the majors that Iowa State has available and decided on
majoring in software engineering. I have always been interested in computers, but never knew
exactly what I wanted to do with them, therefore, majoring in software engineering was a natural
choice. I would be studying what I love in one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

different programs offered at Iowa State I decided that the Navy would be the best fit for me due to
it's world class Surface Warfare Officers. The NROTC program at Iowa State gives me the ability to
commission into the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer opens many doors in the future that would

Personal Narrative Story : A Short Story
"Wah hoo," cried Madison as she soared high into the air. Wow that is really high, I thought to
myself. My stomach was queasy from watching her. Maybe It wouldn't be as bad as it seems. I'm
just getting myself worked up, I thought trying to convince myself. We were at For the kids open
gym night. My little sister, had been begging my parents to take us ever since she learned to do a
cartwheel. She wants to be a gymnast when she grows up. We signed up to do bungee jumping and
now it was our turn. Madison, my friend, was already on the trampoline doing flips. It looked fun
but scary. "Wee," cried Madison as she leaned back to do a backflip. She didn't make it up right fast
enough. I watched as she was stuck upside down, falling towards the tramp. When she hit the tramp
head first she was stuck there until the stretchy rubber cords pulled her back up. "Ugh," she
managed while upside down. "Ha ha," I laughed when I knew she was okay. Inside I was feeling
really nervous. I did not want that to happen to me. "Olivia Koster," the lady read from her sticky
note. Oh boy, I thought as I stepped onto the tramp. The lady helped me step into the harness, which
was hard while wobbling on a trampoline. Now the butterflies were alive in my stomach. She
tightened the straps and told me to hold onto the cords. She walked of the tramp and pressed a
button. I felt the cords lift. I started to jump even though I was as nervous as a worm on a hot day.
By the time she was done I was soaring

How Many Licks Does It Take For The Center Of A Lollipop?
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop? How many times can a company get
away with offending the public? These questions have a lot more in common than someone might
think. Everyone knows that the clever owl that asks us the lollipop questions, gets impatient with
counting and then simply provides us with the answer of the 'world may never know'. Similarly, the
amount of times Urban Outfitters has offending the public or will in the future without receiving any
punishment is too large to count, therefore we give the same impassive answer that 'the world may
never know'. In the United States of America, we are lucky enough to have freedom of speech and
expression. However good or bad, we have the right to say or wear what we want without
punishment. Though it is common sense that companies that sell merchandise are held to higher
standards. Unfortunately some do not understand this unspoken rule, not only that but they abuse
this right. The argument lies primarily with Urban Outfitters who has produced a multitude of
clothing items that offend the wider public! Businesses should not be permitted to produce
merchandise that offends the public because it hurts many people(s), encourages a negative mindset,
and is used purely for publicity. In 2014, Urban Outfitters released a Kent State sweatshirt as an
addition to their urban vintage line. In the line there were multiple other scholastic theme items
including, "...Penn State, Bates College,

What Is The Difference Between Hawkeyes And Iowa State...
A Rivalry to Watch The game of basketball was created in 1891 by Dr. Hames Naismith. This game
has spread world wide, but in Iowa there are no two teams more well known for basketball than the
Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones. A rivalry that started between the two colleges on
February 5th, 1909, still continues today. Overall, the Iowa Hawkeyes lead in total wins against
Iowa State with 44 while Iowa State has only beaten the Hawkeyes 26 times. Although both teams
are proud Iowans, they have numerous differences in their records, coaches, and arenas. Since
Hawkeye basketball began in 1892, they have had 121 seasons resulting in 1,618 wins, 1,142 losses,
and 1 tie. The Hawkeyes belong to the Big Ten Conference, and have been conference champions 8
times in the regular season and 2 times in the tournament season. In tournament play the Hawks
have made an appearance 25 times and advanced to the Final Four 3 times ("Iowa Hawkeyes
College Basketball–Iowa News, Scores, Stats, Rumors & More"). Iowa State had a late start in the
game opening its basketball program in 1907. The Cyclones have had 111 seasons resulting in 1,338
wins and 1,295 losses. Being in the Big 12 Conference, the cyclones have been conference
champions 6 times in the regular season and 5 times in tournaments. They have made an appearance
in tournaments 19 times, continuing to the Final Four only once ("Iowa State Cyclones"). Although
Iowa State had a late start, both teams have similar records, but Iowa

Communication : The Importance Of Communication In The...
Brian Tracy is Chairman and CEO of Brian Tracy International, a company specializing in the
training and development of individuals and organizations. One of Tracy's popular quotes details
communication and the significance that it has on our lives. The quote goes: "Communication is a
skill that you can learn. It's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you're willing to work at it, you can
rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life." (Put source here) Throughout my interviews
it became very evident that communication plays a critical role in the workplace. Derrik Netten, PJ
Hogan, and John Little all outlined how communicating with coworkers, work affiliates, players,
and even family members plays a huge part in how we operate day–to–day. Although Netten,
Hogan, and Little all have different positions within the University of Northern Iowa Men's
Basketball program, they each play their own part in driving the winning tradition forward in Cedar
Falls.
Netten serves as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Panthers, and is currently in his 11th
year with the team. Prior to joining UNI, he served as an assistant coach at the University of
Wisconsin–Superior during the 2006–07 season, serving as the team's recruiting coordinator and
basketball camps director. Netten also was a manager for the Panthers while he was attending
Northern Iowa for his undergraduate degree.

Essay On Swartdogs Competition
The FIRST Iowa Regional Robotics Competition was held in the UNI Dome and McLeod Center
just a few weeks ago, from March 23 through March 25. FIRST is all about combining science,
technology and fun. High school students work in teams to design robots and complete complicated
tasks under strict regulations in just six weeks. The competition offers a taste of real–world
engineering as students are challenged to build a team and brand, enhance teamwork skills, raise
funds, build and program a robot, form strategic alliances and compete against tough competition.
On the last day of the competition, Saturday March 25, events started at 8:00 a.m. After a brief
opening ceremony with the guest speaker, UNI President Mark Nook, the qualifying matches ...

The quarterfinal match ended in a tie and forced a tiebreaker. The second match also ended in a tie
and was decided by a mere five penalty points. Though the Swartdogs didn't win the regional title
this year, they are an incredibly successful team. In their 18–year history they have been regional
winners 12 times and received numerous team awards. This year, the Swartdogs won the Creativity
Award sponsored by Xerox, won their second Volunteer of the Year award and their fifth Woodie
Flowers Award for outstanding team mentors.
The last semifinal match was truly a show–stopper. The two alliances were so determined to make it
into the final match that they tied their semifinal match six times! When a tie takes place there are
certain point categories with more weight to decide the winner. However, the alliances were fighting
so hard that their scores were identical six times in a row. This semifinal wowed the judges and the
fans, and was an emotional rollercoaster right before the final match.
When the tiebreakers were settled, the final two alliances faced off for the regional title. After the
crazy semifinal battle, the atmosphere was intense. In the end the Blue Alliance emerged victorious
and teams 2410 from Overland Park, Kansas, 5690 from Esko, Minnesota, and 4506 from Saint

Importance Of Sports In My Life
Sports have always been the go to activity in my life, whether it is playing, watching, or reading. I
participated in a few sports but will play any sport for fun. I thrive to watch sports and keep up with
the NFL, NBA, MLB, and all the college sports. My family has enjoyed sports forever and the love
has been handed down from generation to generation. Issues in sports have always been around and
will continue to be around for ages. In my early elementary days, I played upwards of 5 sports. Flag
and tackle football brought me joy because I could throw the ball to the receivers or run downfield if
they were not open. My high school did not offer soccer; therefore, I did not continue to play during
my elementary years because of baseball. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now to professional teams, I have been a huge fan of the Denver Broncos since I could talk. I love
Sports Authority Field and the entire city of Denver. It brought me joy when Peyton Manning joined
them even though we all know the defense won them Super Bowl 50. When it comes to NBA and
MLB, I do not have necessary favorite teams, but I have favorite players. In the NBA, I respect
Lebron's game and the athletic ability he has brought into the NBA. I enjoy watching all the NBA
games because of the crazy shots and adjustments they can make to get a bucket. The MLB attracts
my attention the least barely liking any of the teams/players, so whenever I go to an MLB game I
always cheer for the home team. Growing up in the middle of Iowa, several of my friends like Iowa
State. I try to be respectful to them but I must put them in their place when they smack talk me. I
have brainwashed my parents and siblings to like the Broncos and Hawkeyes along with me. My
brothers–in–law are the toughest though because they are extremely big Cyclone fans. Personal
issues that I have had in sports include coaching. At my school, my teammates dads were always the
coach which makes it quite bias when they come to setting lineup. They always want the best results
for their kid whether the game ends in a win or loss. The way I look at games is, I don't care what
happens if we get the win. An issue I realized this year for my High School

On July 19 of 2016 I was sent to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to have a surgery done
that has took nine years to plan. The surgery was designed to expand the mandible bone, straighten
it, and support it with six screws. As I was taken to my surgical room I saw my parents being taken
back the pediatric unit to settle into my temporary home. The feeling of not having my parents by
my side scared me more than what I was getting prepared for. After all my blood tests and shots I
was sent to the surgical room, I remember walking into the room and seeing 20 people preparing for
me. While I was being helped on to the bed, someone was placing my compression socks and the
intermittent pneumatic compression devices on my legs. Once I got adjusted into the bed they
placed a white blanket, intraoperative blanket, and the heated blanket, even though it was only three
blankets it felt as if it was crushing me. My nurse held my hand as I started drifting off into sleep.
After a five hour long surgery and an hour of sleep, My mom was sent back into the recovery room.

Family Resource Centers Essay
Family Resource Centers
Half the children in this country live in homes in which one or both parents work. Twelve million
children in this country do not have health insurance, and over 4.5% of all children are victims of
suspected child abuse or neglect (Doktor and Poertner). Believe it or not, these are all indicators of
the demand for Family Resource Centers within our school systems. Many question whether Family
Resource Centers are worth the money the state pours into them. However, in serving students,
parents and teachers, there should be no question of their significance. Due to The Kentucky
Education Reform Act in the early 1990's we have seen the development of Family Resource
Centers in Kentucky, and they are fulfilling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an interview with David Messer (operator of the Olive Hill Family Resource Center) I learned
that the resource centers say, " Our mission with children is to help remove the physical,
educational, and social barriers in order to see them succeed in school." and that " Our mission with
parents is to empower them with resources and skill needed to meet the challenges in life." The
mission statement of the resource centers may vary according to the area, but most followed the
same concept. Growing up in a school system with Family Resource Centers, I must agree that they
live up to their mission statement. They try to remove education barriers by offering tutoring,
physical barriers by offering special education or medical assistance, and social barriers by
providing students with anything to help them not stand out in the crowd.
Family Resource Centers have a unique structure. Referring back to the Orientation Guide for
Newly Employed FR/YSC Coordinators published by MSU's College of Education, Like any
program, they have a director that is the supervisor over everything in the program for example
keeping track of the funding and programs offered and the staff. In addition to the director you have
the advisory councils. This group advises, councils and assists the center and it encourages
interaction among the community, the school and the center. It consists of ten to twenty members
that are made up of students, parents,

Monster Study Stuttering Theory
The Monster Study
Wendell Johnson devised the Monster study in 1939 at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans' Home in
Dayton, Iowa to find the true cause of stuttering, which he and many others suffered from
(Reynolds, 2003). The popular theory at the time was that stuttering was a physiological defect,
meaning the brain's signals misfired; however, Johnson believed that stuttering was a "learned
behavior and could be unlearned" (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). To see if his hypothesis was correct,
Johnson devised an experiment now known as the "Monster Study." Before he could begin he
requested the help of one of his students at the time, Mary Tudor, to carry out the experiment for
him. Before the experiment "Tudor and 5 other graduate students ranked twenty–six children's
speech on a scale of one to five, one being poor and five being fluent" (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag).
Based on this the children were separated into four groups: IA consisted of five children who
stuttered, but were told nice things; IB consisted of five children who stuttered and were told
negative things; IIA consisted of six children who did not stutter but, were told they did, and, IIB
consisted of six children who did not stutter and were told nice things. Tudor used rehearsed
responses such as," you will be able to speak even better than you are speaking now" on students in
IA and responses such as" Don't ever speak unless you can do it right" on children in IIA (Reynolds,
2003, n.pag.). Even after just two sessions,

The History of Art at Iowa State University Essay
Have you ever been to Iowa State University and seen all of the magnificent art that is located on
campus? Iowa State is home to one of the largest campus public art collections in the United States.
There are over 2,000 works of public art (George Washington Carver). The foundation of the
contemporary Art on Campus Collection and Program began during the Depression in the 1930s,
when Iowa State's President Hughes envisioned that, "The arts would enrich and provide substantial
intellectual exploration into our college curricula" (George Washington Carver). Who doesn't love
art? Every day you wake up and experience some sort of artwork; whether it's a sculpture or just
seeing something made so wonderful. Walking across the magnificent ... Show more content on

We live in a world where there is lots of judging and I believe people may not even give some art
pieces a chance. In the 1940s, Christian Petersen sculpted a plaster figure of George Washington
Carver. According to an article from Iowa State Museums, "This is one of the few free–standing, full
length sculptures that Petersen ever made" (George Washington Carver). He sculpted Carver as an
old man holding a single peanut in his hands. Petersen's intentions were to emphasize Carver's
vision for the future of agriculture (George Washington Carver). George Washington Carver was the
first African American to attend Iowa State, and I personally didn't know this until I saw the
sculpture located near Carver Hall. Art has its meanings, even if sometimes you aren't looking for
them. A quote from George Washington Carver shows how much he cared for this blessed
university, "I have no words to adequately express my impressions of dear old I.S.C. (Iowa State
College). All I am and all I hope to be, I owe in a very large measure to this blessed institution"
(Mark Bagley). When this sculpture was first created Petersen wasn't able to cast this sculpture in
bronze because the cost was too much money, so he painted the work of art to resemble bronze. The
sculpture was originally put inside Carver Hall on the first floor lobby (George Washington Carver).

Academic Dishonesty: University Of Iowa State
Honesty Essay

Academic dishonesty is a crime that the University of Iowa State takes very seriously. There are
several steps in the policy for dishonesty that ensure the student is well aware there is an issue and
has a chance to give their side if they think their work was not dishonest. Academic dishonesty is
not just in the form of using another student or persons work and handing it in. Trying to get a
professor to give you a better grade or a friend to give you one of their assignment, by offering them
some cash or other reward is also considered academically dishonest. If a student is suspected to
have committed an act of dishonesty, the Dean of Students will be the first to know because the

Temple Grandin Reflection Paper
Reflection: Temple Grandin Before watching the movie, I have never heard of it before. I never
knew it existed. Temple Grandin is another inspiring movie that I have been glad to have watched. It
deals with the autism of a woman and tells the inspiration true story of her. Temple Grandin, a
young autistic woman, is extraordinarily gifted. She has a remarkable connection to animals and a
brilliant mind. This biopic follows Temple from her late teens –– as she struggles with both her own
limitations and some narrow–mindedness in the communities around her –– to her startling first
accomplishments. With the help of a supportive family and one progressive teacher, Temple tackles

She became an animal scientist and a professor at the university. The protagonist, Temple Grandin,
was able to explain and describe very skillfully how a person with this condition feels, hears, sees,
perceives and thinks. She helps people peek inside the mind of a person with Asperger's syndrome –
which facilitates good communication and better understanding. She demonstrates the importance of
pictures in the mind of autisitc people and how powerful their visual skills can be. Another reason
why I think this movie is such a great, inspirational movie is because of how a woman with autism
can accomplish something so inspiring that shows people with autism shouldn't be viewed as
someone who can't do much or someone who doesn't have the skills and knowledge to do what
normal people can. Temple Grandin has probably made a big difference in what people think of ones
who have autism and I think that is great. Just because a person has autism doesn't necessarily mean
that people don't have autism should view them as someone lower than themselves. People with
autism are only stronger–willed and even though they may have difficulty with life, Temple Grandin
shows that it doesn't matter if you have autism or not because you can achieve your goals, you just
need that determination in your life. From this movie, I have learned that no matter how small other
people may think of you, you have the

"Oranges"
By Gary Soto
Gary Soto was born April 12, 1952, in Fresno, California to Mexican–American parents. His
grandparents emigrated from Mexico during the Great Depression and found jobs as farm laborers.
Soto grew up poor in the San Joaquin Valley and learned that hard work pays off through chores,
such as moving lawns, picking grapes, painting houses, and washing cars.
When Gary was five his father died as the result of a factory accident, and his mother was left to
raise her three children with the help of her parents. Soto describes his family as an "illiterate"
family. They did not have books and were not encouraged to read. In fact, Gary did not start writing

Brightness shows how much power the orange actually has. The references in the story build up the
power of the orange.
Soto talks about sacrifice, and we all go through that. What we do to please other people. The boy
had to give up his orange because he didn't have enough money. He told his girlfriend that she can
chose any kind of candy found in the isle, and she chose a chocolate bar that cost a dime, now the
boy only had a nickel and a pair of oranges in his pocket. Instead of feeling embarrassed and cheep
in front of his new girl, the boy decided to put up the nickel and an orange on the counter for the
saleslady.
Oranges are rare in the winter and their encounter might be precious. They convey a powerful
feeling. Making fire in the hands represents that he is in love. That he feels God like, he feels tough
like he can do it all when he's around his girlfriend.
The tone of the poem is simple with broken down sentences. Adolescent love is simple much like
childhood love. There are the sweaty hands, heavy breathing, butterflies in the stomach, but when
kids fall in love, its not true love, it most likely is just a crush. The words that are used in the poem
are not complex but short and meaningful. When reading between the lines, and reading the poem
more than twice, it is much easier to put two and two together and have a better

The College Of Design At Iowa State University
I created a poster to show how the sculpture, "Sequence" represents the College of Design. To show
this, I decided to make the poster about the College of Design at Iowa State University. The
audience of this poster is the students because they are the people that would be applying to be a
design student. To catch the attention of students, I thought a poster would work better so when they
walk by throughout a busy day they will notice it. I also wanted the poster to be landscape or more
horizontal because the sculpture is the largest item on the poster and would make it more
convenient. This poster's purpose is to encourage students to apply to the College of Design. I chose
the title, "Do You Have Qualities of a Design Student?" because I wanted to connect to the students
on campus. I also put this at the top of the page so students see this first. This would make them
continue to read the poster until they hit the bottom of the page which states, "Apply to the College
of Design Today!". This makes them leave the poster with a clear purpose which is to apply to the
design program. I also wanted to include the academic departments of the College of Design. I
included that on the left side of the page so it isn't distracting, but still available for students to read.
This informs students what programs the College of Design provides. The sculpture is in the center
of the poster because this reflects the students and faculty in the College of Design. This is a large

The Economic Impacts of Budget Cuts to the CSU and UC Systems
This paper will focus on the economic impacts of the policy decision by California Governor Brown
to decrease funding of the California State University and University of California systems by way
of looking at the impact on the economy of less college graduates. I will do this by looking at two
variables. I will first look at the multiplier effect of the state putting money into the California State
University system and what will happen as a result of the divestment due to the budget cuts. I will
then look at the decrease in the median income due to the fact that the budget cuts will cause a
decrease in enrollment which means there will be fewer college graduates and college graduates

(California State Governor's Office) According to a report presented to the Office of the Chancellor
by IFC International for every one dollar spent by the state on the California State University system
"the CSU generates $5.43 for California's economy annually. When enhanced earnings by graduates
are taken into account, the annual return rises to more than $23 for each $1 invested." (ICF
International) This, however, does not necessarily mean than the $542.4 million in cuts is multiplied
by $23, resulting in a total decrease of $12.475 billion in spending. This is because the relationship
isn't necessarily completely linear. Since the decrease is only 8.5% then the relationship might still
be linear, which would mean that there will be $12.475 billion in spending lost. The other reality
might be that it is not linear, which would mean the total loss of spending would be less than
$12.475 billion.
Another area I will look at for the California State University system's budget cuts is the resulting
enrollment cuts. With less money coming in from the state the universities have to save money by
enrolling fewer students. However, the money cut from the CSU budget doesn't have a direct
relationship to a decrease in enrollment. The change in enrollment is determined by the universities
and is filled every semester. Enrollment is scheduled to decrease in

Iowa State University Office Of The President
Introduction
Around 300,000 American students are able to partake in studying abroad each year (Klebnikov,
Sergei). With over 7 billion people spread throughout the world we may think that experiencing
places in our own county is seemingly impossible. However, today we have so many opportunities
to travel the world as young people. Iowa State University has focused on giving students of all
different backgrounds the ability to go out and experience the world.
Analysis of Mission
Iowa State University prides itself on its mission to "Create, share, and apply knowledge to make
Iowa and the world a better place" (Iowa State University Office of the President: Mission and
Vision). This mission focuses on the success of each and every student that attends Iowa State. In
order for Iowa State's Study Abroad program to follow the foundational mission of the entire
university, it had to create a mission that also focused on the students. The mission they have formed
and stand today consists of: putting emphasis on developing strong international adventures. In
order for students to go out to other countries to receive a quality education, the Study Abroad
program must create a strong base on which they are able to form equal quality education as Iowa
State provides no matter where a student goes. To promote opportunities that are inclusive and
affordable for all students. To prepare students and directors for success when studying abroad. To
advance standards of safety and uphold

atmosphere was that of the Academy Awards in CY Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University
for the 31st IHSSAAll–State Large Group Speech Festival on Saturday, February 18. Students sat
on the main level of the packed auditorium while family and friends filled the balcony. As I glanced
over at Joel Stauffer and Todd McDonald, I realized there was no other place I would rather be. Our
choral reading, "Wild at Heart" earned a chance to perform at the festival. The only times our school

frustrating trickle down effect. The entirety of the BCS will be completely watered down. Watching

Reiman Garden Mission Statement
Everyone already knows that Iowa State University is one of the most beautiful campuses in
America, but what makes this particular campus stand out? What is Iowa State's highlight, the tip of
the iceberg. What comes to mind is the Reiman Gardens because although it is a small part of Iowa
State's campus, it is part of something much larger and complex that is usually hidden from the
crowd. As a matter of fact, I believe most people do not even know that the garden exists. To explain
the value of the Reiman Gardens, I will be focusing on the garden's history, the role it plays in Iowa
State, how it is connected to Iowa State's mission statement, and how it pertains to Iowa State as a
land–grant university. To begin, the Reiman Gardens was not built in just a day; it was always an
unfinished project. Moreover, the garden regularly had renovations, which is why it was a work in
progress. Before the Reiman Gardens, Iowa State had a small horticultural garden, but it was
secluded from others. Inspired by Roy Reiman and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the land–grant institution in the very first state to adopt the Morrill Act, Iowa State University

receive the benefits of the Morrill Act. The goal of a land–grant institution was to make higher
education available to everybody and not just certain kinds of people, teach practical subjects, and
share the knowledge with people throughout the states. (Pounds and Jones). The Reiman Gardens
corresponds with the definition of a land–grant institution because a land–grant institution wants to
provide for students and the Reiman Garden clearly does that. The garden his helpful because it
provides information to the community, as a botanical garden, and as a university

Academic Goals And Career Goals
My academic goals are to learn skills that I will need in the workforce to achieve my career goals.
Being a successful student academically has always been important to me, from high school through
all four years of college. I hope to have a substantial foundation of knowledge and experiences from
the classroom that will transition over into my future career. Before my professional career begins, I
will work hard to attain my CPA by retaining my classroom education. Furthermore, the enhanced
knowledge I will gain from a Master of Accounting from Iowa State will better my chances at
achieving my goal of passing the CPA exam.
My career goals include working at a public accounting firm to gain experience of the field while
working towards receiving my CPA. After a few years, I want to work my way up in the company
and eventually become a partner. Or, if I decide to go private working for a company, I would like to
become a CFO. Whichever path I choose, the most important consideration for me as I start my
professional career is not a specific job title in accounting, but rather the chance to work for a
company that promotes a positive work culture and provides an opportunity for professional growth.
In addition, I want to wish to work for a company that shares much of the same values as me and is
enjoyable to work for.
A Master of Accounting degree from Iowa State University would greatly expand my intelligence in
the accounting field, and learn higher level concepts that

What Extracurricular Activities Have You Been Involved?
1. What extracurricular activities have you been involved in? Throughout high school, I have been
involved in many extracurricular activities. I have been on the basketball and track teams for all 3
years, and I am looking forward to continuing to play for the Norsemen during my senior year. I
love being a part of the team atmosphere and getting to use my talents to make myself, and my team
better. Along with that, I participated in off–season and in–season weights for a majority of the year
all three years. This usually involves coming in before or after school, or in the mornings during the
summer to get a good weight lift session in. I have also been a part of the big buddies program and
have gotten to know many of the elementary school students along with getting to know the
teachers. With this, I have really helped boost up my number of hours of volunteering and am close
to completing enough hours to receive the silver cord award by the time that we graduate next year.
I plan to keep volunteering and since have been involved in youth group since kindergarten and am
now too old, I plan to help teach a class this coming year. 2. What leadership roles have you held? I
have served many leadership roles in my 4–H group since I started in 2008 and continue to be a
leader to the entire group. I was the secretary for one year, then the treasurer the next year, and the
vice president of the Howard Happy Helpers. In the past year, we have merged two group together,

Who Is The Best People I Know?
Helping Hand Have you ever wondered how much of an impact you could have on someone else's
life just by doing something small for them? As you start to grow up you make sense of helping
each other out with the little things in life. Some people don't even realize they do it every day,
opening the door for someone, showing someone directions, or even just waving at them. Each day
you are doing good for others by not realizing it, and that is just what Brittany Ross continues to do.
Brittany grew up in Peoria Illinois, and her family was known for the people that helped the
community. From what she can remember her family would always have volunteering come first
and always would help others out. She says "They are the best people I know" (Ross). As a child she
noticed that her dad was the one to inspire her to volunteer and taught her "everything is a blessing
and to use my good to help others" (Ross). Her family was known in the community by always
giving time to help everyone with whatever they needed. They helped people who were in need of
things around the house and even places that needed donations to keep in business. As of right now
she says she will come back home during breaks to help out around the community and to try to be
involved. She took on a new step in life by applying to the University of Iowa, she knew she wanted
to volunteer whenever she could by joining organization's here on campus, and she became a
resident assistant. Not only did she want to

Bruce Braley Commercial Analysis Essay
The claim in the commercial for Bruce Braley is that Bruce Braley wants to help the people of Iowa.
Throughout the commercial Braley uses a combination of ethos, logos, and pathos to get people to
vote for him. Coupled with the use of the video, audio, and text track he provides a commercial that
provokes the audience to think of Braley as the guy to help Iowa. The first track we hear being used
is the audio track. To start off they say his father died and it was the most difficult time in his life.
Than they go on to talk about it was Bruce's mom, Marcia, that helped get him back on his feet and
convinced him to follow his dream. Although this does represent Braley's perseverance through
tough times it also implies something else. That is that his mom helped him, so he will ... Show

The word "Braley" whether used in a name or elsewhere is constantly present on the screen. He uses
his name "Bruce Braley" as well as his website "brucebrayle.com" as a way to advertise himself. At
the time of this commercial being aired many people might not know who he is, so as a way to
become more known he is trying to get his name out there as much as possible. He also puts his
mom's name Marcia Braley in the commercial. This helps build the connection and relatability
between Bruce Braley and his mom, Marcia Braley. The reason this connection is helpful is because
it makes him seem more like his mother who, in the commercial, is displayed as a strong kind
woman. This connection implies that Bruce Braley might also have these same traits as he is her
own son. Finally at the end of the video we see an outline of the state of Iowa with the name "Bruce
Braley For U.S. Senate". This use of the visual track is not subtle at all. The director purposely did
this to make it seem like if Braley got voted for US Senate he would be all about helping Iowa in
Washington, just like how he is helping Iowans right now in the state of

Isaac Sherrill Biography
One day a miracle happened, I, Isaac Sherrill, was born! I was born on March 9, 2003. A long time
ago, I know. I thought I would write an autobiography so I could tell people about myself, but also
to entertain a little.
I was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and I was the first child of my family. When I was one we moved
to Arizona for a year. Then when we moved back to Indiana my sister was born, and now I have
three brothers and three sisters. My life has taken taken some twists and turns and now I live in
Grand Rapids, Michigan as a manager of agents for artists, performers and athletes.

I got a lot of recognition working there because people knew who I was from playing basketball. I
made about $15,000 working out there which fortunately was enough to get by. My college
experience was amazing and I'm thankful for my time there.
I was seen as a smart, young, athletic coming out of college and with some convincing I got a
position managing agents of athletes, performers, and artists. I made $120,000 with that job which
was great especially because this was my first big job. Through the years I have been working my
way up the ranks. I hope that one day I will be able to do something big like being the CEO of Nike
or something like that as I said earlier.
I live in Grand Rapids, MI because I have always loved the city, but most of all, all the opportunities
it offers for me and my family. I bought a very nice house straight off after college which I reside in
to this day. I also drive a nice Range Rover Evoque which had been my dream car since I was a little
boy. But I most enjoy having season tickets to the MSU basketball season, the very college I
graduated from. Looking back on my life I thank God for everything he has blessed me with. In the

something like that (obviously that's a ways down the road). But in the meantime I'll be out here in

The Campaign, A Good And Positive Light
Identity As we created this campaign, we developed several themes, symbols, motives and values in
order to bring the project together and ensure the audience would receive it favorably, or in a
beneficial and positive light. In the campaign, there are two primary themes, the first of which is
recognition. In general, KULT is an unknown and ambiguous organization that needs to build a
brand or an image for itself among students. The second theme of the campaign is unity. KULT
wants to be seen as an organization that offers specific services and content to students who listen to
the station or work for it. The goal of the campaign, then, is to provide a unified message to the
audience showing exactly what KULT is, what it can do for students, and what it means to be
involved. The message will unify the student body by presenting these facts, creating a sense of
understanding and interest in the station. These two themes are carried out in several ways. Our
motive is to bring students together in recognizing and understanding KULT so they can not only
enjoy it, but take advantage of it. Our values are focused around those of KULT: offering something
new and fun to benefit the panther community in whatever ways they can and building a community
in the station. We bring these elements together with a symbol: a new logo for KULT. By tying these
elements together and promoting them through the message and new logo, people will have a better
understanding of KULT and its

Essay on Roy Lichtenstein
Roy Lichtenstein
Roy Lichtenstein was born in New York City on October 27th, 1923. He described his childhood as
quiet and uneventful. His father was a realtor; his mother was a housewife. Art was not taught at the
school Roy attended, but when he turned fourteen he began taking Saturday morning classes at the
Parson' School of Design. After he graduated from high school in 1940 he attended the School of
Fine Art at Ohio State University. He was drafted however in 1943 in the middle of his education at
Ohio State. While he was in the military he served in Great Britain and Europe. When he returned to

His career as an artist mainly started in 1951, he usually painted cowboys and Indians in various
modern art styles. In 1957 he tried his hand at Abstract Expressionism. What he is famous for
though is his works based on comic strips. This all began with a painting he made of Mickey Mouse
in 1960 for his children. By 1961 Lichtenstein was completely dedicated to the making of art from
mass–produced, merchandising images. His comic–strip paintings, such as Good Morning, Darling,
are blowups of the original cartoon characters, reproduced by hand, with the same technique of
benday dots and bright primary colors used in printing. This result was a blend of commercial art
and abstraction. He tried to use brilliant colors outlined in black to emphasis the visual impact.
These painting made him famous and the first one–man show of his comic strip paintings was in
New York City in 1962. It was a major success and by 1968 the interest in his artwork was
phenomenal. He has the distinction of being the first American artist to have an exhibition at
London's Tate Gallery. Lichtenstein continued in this area for a while, taking subjects from
sentimental
Romance magazines. He enclosed speeches in balloons and made landscapes in the
Comic–book style. He also dabbled in making statues during this time, which

I have just arrived at Iowa State University to study at faculty of engineering. It will be a great
experience to live in place that you didn't visit before. The first impression I have got about the
people here is that they are very helpful and faithful, this including students, university's staff and all
workers. The campus is very large, and there are many buildings that reflect the culture of this state.
Iowa State's central campus includes 490 acres of trees, plants, and classically designed buildings.
The landscape's most dominant feature is the 20–acre central lawn. The other buildings include
Campanile, Beardshear Hall, and Curtiss Hall, circled and preserved the central lawn, creating a
space where students study, relax, and socialize. My favorite place in campus is the library.

Communication Reflection Paper
At times, circumstances in life can unknowingly guide one on a path leading to a promising and
rewarding career. Thanks to my family and sister, I am here today. When I was four years old, my
younger sister Carly was diagnosed with a rare developmental disorder, called Smith–Magenis
Syndrome (SMS). Of course at the time I did not understand what this meant, but as we got older,
many of Carly's challenges were attributes that came easily to me and other typically developing
kids. One of her biggest challenges was – and still is today – is communicating effectively. For
instance, Carly didn't use full words until early elementary school. Before that, she communicated
mostly through pointing or using monosyllabic repetitions when she wanted objects. At worst, she
would express her thoughts and frustrations through outbursts. From this young age, I was able to
observe Carly and her SLP work on improving her communication, either in our home or during her
speech sessions at the therapy clinic. However during my high school career, becoming an SLP was
just in the back of my mind, and was never my first choice. It didn't become prominent until entered
my freshman year of college at the University of Iowa, and took the Intro to Speech & Hearing
Processes and Disorders class. Throughout the semester I not only became interested in the concepts
I previously experienced through my sister, but also in concepts I had never heard of or thought

Routine Activities Theory
According to the routine activities theory, the cause of crime should not be attributed to social
causes, such as poverty, inequality, and unemployment, rather it holds that crime is the result of
opportunity. The more opportunity there is for crime, the more likely that crime will occur in that
specific area. However, in order for there to be an increased opportunity for crime, the three
necessary conditions of this theory must be present: a likely offender, a suitable target, and the
absence of capable guardianship. Consequently, the routine activities theory is a strong explanation
for crime in Ames, Iowa. According to Area Vibes, Ames has crime rates that are 25% lower than
the Iowa mean and 37% lower than the nation's mean. Yet, while Ames has relatively low crime
rates, crime is not non–existent, and poverty, unemployment, and inequality are unsuccessful
attempts to explain it. Home of Iowa State University, Ames ranked third in the nation for Best
College–Town last year, and the area continues to grow not only in population, but also in diversity
and opportunity as over 35,000 students pour in from all over the world every year. Thus, it seems
that crime in Ames is best explained by the growing opportunity for crime as the routine activities
theory holds, rather than unfavorable social conditions. In a community with relatively low crime
rates, it can be difficult to point out areas in Ames that are at the most risk for crime. However, after
looking at crime data and

Wayne State Essay
Introduction Arriving to campus on time has usually been an issue for commuting Canadian
students. This is not only a problem for them, but Wayne State is also affected in the process. With
students arriving late, there would be missed lectures and barely any work done. In turn, Wayne
State's reputation as a school is affected negatively as these commuters would start considering
switching to other schools. In fact, some high school graduates from Canada would not even think
about attending classes at Wayne State due to its lack of an uncomplicated transportation system.
The main purpose of this report is to help Wayne State figure out a way to implement an alternative
means of transportation to the current one these students are using, which is using two buses.
Currently, using the tunnel and city buses causes unnecessary delays for the students and makes
them arrive to class either really late or the minute it starts. By making transportation easier for
them, it would. However, Wayne State must decide on the method of transportation they could use
in order to help their Canadian students. The proposed solutions in this document was developed
from information obtained via research, such as, but not limited to, student surveying. Research

that Wayne State would be able to implement this system because buses are usually run by the city.

cars are not run by the city. As for creating an online carpooling system, it is also very likely that
Wayne State could do this because other good schools have done it, such as Oklahoma State

The Java House, located on East Washington Street in Iowa City, Iowa is a major study hub for
students attending the University of Iowa. The founder, Tara Cronbaugh, opened the first Java
House locations in 1994 after taking a trip to The University of California, Berkeley and developing
a fascination with coffee house ambience. Cronbaugh admired the relaxing, yet social environment
of the coffee houses on Berkeley's campus. She felt she had a mission to bring that same ambience

It makes logical sense to allow a table to be open for students who genuinely need to be there.
Another way The Java House convinces students at The University of Iowa to get their coffee to go
if they aren't going to study is by appealing to pathos, or emotions. The Java House engages all the
senses to promote a studious environment. Immediately entering the coffee shop, one will notice it is
dimly lit, with a darker color scheme and warm–toned antique furniture. The color scheme, as well
as the lighting, invoke a sense of relaxation into University of Iowa student customers that is perfect
for studying and not so much for socialization. Although many students have earbuds or headphones
in, low volume, calm music plays throughout the shop. The music volume and genre allow for
students to stay on task and not to get distracted easily. The subtle smell of coffee also engulfs the
whole shop, creating an even more relaxing atmosphere. Lastly, when looking around one will
notice the vast majority of students are doing school work. All the senses work together to
communicate that The Java House is a quiet, relaxing environment ideal for studying and
productivity, not for friendly get–togethers or dates. Therefore, if that was a student's intention they
should get their coffee and go somewhere else more lively, fun, or casual, so they could better enjoy
themselves and make sure not to disturb or distract those working at The Java House.

Breaking The Prairie Symbol
A Symbol of the Pioneer Glory: Breaking the Prairie
The pioneer and all his train are now arrived safely in the realm of Romance. His prairie schooner
drawn by oxen, his log cabin...his prairie of a thousand variable charms...his founding of
government... all these, because they are long past and we are proud of the courage and hardihood of
our fathers...and a little proud of ourselves for having descended from them – all these transmuted to
the very stuff of fable, the very texture of myth. The glory of Lincoln is not unconnected with the
pioneer's proper glory, for Lincoln was subject to hardships of the early settlers.

This can be explained particularly in the case of the Morrill Act signed by the former president
himself in 1862, which established the donation of public lands to various states in order to establish
universities with three land–grant ideals: higher education that is accessible to all, the obligations of
universities to teach liberal arts and practical subjects, and to share knowledge far beyond the
campus borders. Iowa was the first state to accept the Act, making Iowa Agricultural College and
Model Farm the nation's first land–grant institution. Until today, Iowa State still remains true to the
land–grant missions, and continues to strive for excellence as a national leader of modern land–grant
institutions. Speaking of which, I realize the first land–grant ideal: "Open higher education to all
regardless of race, gender and background" is closely associated with one of the greatest
achievements of Lincoln – the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation that led to the
abolishment of slavery in the United States. If it were not for Lincoln's contributions, the ideal might
have not been made possible. Furthermore, the incorporation of Lincoln–esque figures as laboring
men in the mural reflects the former president's humble origins, whose hard

Have you ever wondered why two people with the same job and in the same environment may
perform differently or have a different viewpoint of their job? Of course everyone is different, but
what is different? Perhaps it could be their motivation to perform their duties. According to David
McClelland (1993), cognitive intelligence is not the best predictor of occupational status or job
performance. Many people ignore the social factors that contribute to job performance, like
motivation. It is hard to accurately measure motivation; that is why motivation theories are created
and used (Liu & Arendt, 2014). There are many theories of motivation and ... Show more content on

This way they have nothing holding them back from attaining their goal. The second need is
affiliation. Affiliation means "The desire for friendly and close interpersonal relationships." These
types of people like working for organizations that commit and value their employees (Liu &
Arendt, 2014). Moberg and Leasher (2011) say that people with the need for affiliation have the
strong desire to be liked, accepted, and held with a high regard by others as well as engaging with
others. It is all about having the sense of belonging in workplace. Sometimes people with the need
for affiliation are so focused on being well liked, they just "go with the flow" of other employees to
avoid future conflict. As a supervisor, I would put these types of people to work together as a team
on projects but watch out for those who don't contribute when they should be. When meeting with
them one–on–one, it would be a good idea to express how I trust them and value them as an
employee and make that connection with them that they are longing for. The last need of
McClelland's Theory is Power. In this context, power means "The need to make others behave in a
way that they would not have behaved otherwise" (Liu & Arendt, 2014). People who seek power in
their jobs like to use their leadership skills to be influential to others and somehow make an impact

"So, that's it maaz. I hope to see you again on Thanksgiving. Bye." This was the last thing I heard
from my cousin before he left. I didn't want him to leave because everything was so new here, but
this is what life is. A new start for me. I would never had been so nervous if I knew what was ahead
of me at Iowa State University.
I checked in at the Frederiksen Court Community Centre (Hawthorn) which is now my most
preferred dining place on campus. It has a super market in it as well. It has four entrances, a kitchen
in the middle and the seating are at the far right corner. I was advised to download the My State
application on my phone. I never knew it would be so helpful. Everything, literally everything was
just one tap away now.
In front of it is a ground with basketball court and a volleyball court. I come here every weekend to
play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has four benches and tables around its corners where sometimes we sit and have lunch. Such a
beautiful place it is.
On the right of this ground is Frederiksen Court building 63, my favorite place on campus. Without
apartment number 6314, my life at Iowa State University would be completely different. This is the
reason why I look forward to getting back home every day like I used to in my home country.
Sometimes it is not the place or the characteristics of the place that matter, it is about the people that
live there. Those are the ones that make a place so special. At least this is 100% true for my case. As
soon as you open the door, you can see a fridge on the right which is always full of food. Everything
in it is not mine, but what makes it so special is that everyone in this apartment is allowed to have
anything they want from it which has instilled the quality of sharing in me. Right in front of the
fridge is a counter. This is the place where my roommates and I have Lunch/dinner together. The
concept of a "family dinner"1 has

Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University Essays
Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University
The Background of the Costs of Tuition at Iowa State University
Iowa State University is a land grant school which, among other things, means that the university
gets money from the state of Iowa from the taxes that residents pay to the state. Because of this in
state residents who choose to go to the university do not have to pay a large amount of money while
out–of–state residents have to pay almost twice as much. Iowa State University does not have
reciprocity, meaning that even residents from the surrounding states, Minnesota, Illinois, etc., have
to pay full out–of–state tuition. Out–of– state residents have to pay about $9000 a year for tuition,
while Iowa residents pay only about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The students that come to Iowa State are not all Iowa residents. The out–of–state residents are the
ones who have to pay a great deal of money to attend the university. These students should not feel
that many of the doors to the kind of education they would like have been shut in their face because
of the amount of money it costs to attend many universities. To help solve many problems for out–
of–state students, their tuition for attending Iowa State University should be set around $5000. By
setting it at an amount that is only about $3000 less than the present out–of–state tuition it will make
it much more affordable for the students and the University will not lose money. Needs for
Changing the Tuition at ISU
The needs for the decrease in out–of–state tuition at the university can be seen in several areas, such
as the community diversity, availability of education to all, and the income based discrimination of
students. Iowa State university does not have a very diverse community. During the 1998–1999
school year 78.8 percent of the total population at Iowa State University was of Iowa residency.
Many of the Iowa residents are from the surrounding area of Ames, IA, where Iowa State is located.
Only 17.6 percent were non–residents but United States citizens and the remaining 9.6 percent were
international students (ISU Fact book). The percentages were even lower in the incoming freshman
class of that year (see fig

Iowa State University Application Essay

  • 1. Iowa State University Application Essay Things often don't go as planned in life, but sometimes it's for the better. I never actually planned on attending Iowa State University, but now that I'm signed up to attend, I can't wait to learn more about myself and develop through classes, clubs, and the NROTC program. When I first applied to Iowa State University, I was originally planning on attending the University of Illinois, and Iowa State was my backup school. Two days after I applied to Iowa State, I was accepted. Once I told my friends, family, and mentors about my acceptance, I was told nothing but good things. The reputation that Iowa State has established for itself is one of the best. Even one of my small group leaders at church who graduated from University of Iowa, conceded that Iowa State has an exceptional engineering program. At that point I started to do research about ISU, and through research I discovered that Iowa State is ranked within the top 25 engineering programs in the nation. That's when I took a look at the majors that Iowa State has available and decided on majoring in software engineering. I have always been interested in computers, but never knew exactly what I wanted to do with them, therefore, majoring in software engineering was a natural choice. I would be studying what I love in one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Personal Narrative Story : A Short Story "Wah hoo," cried Madison as she soared high into the air. Wow that is really high, I thought to myself. My stomach was queasy from watching her. Maybe It wouldn't be as bad as it seems. I'm just getting myself worked up, I thought trying to convince myself. We were at For the kids open gym night. My little sister, had been begging my parents to take us ever since she learned to do a cartwheel. She wants to be a gymnast when she grows up. We signed up to do bungee jumping and now it was our turn. Madison, my friend, was already on the trampoline doing flips. It looked fun but scary. "Wee," cried Madison as she leaned back to do a backflip. She didn't make it up right fast enough. I watched as she was stuck upside down, falling towards the tramp. When she hit the tramp head first she was stuck there until the stretchy rubber cords pulled her back up. "Ugh," she managed while upside down. "Ha ha," I laughed when I knew she was okay. Inside I was feeling really nervous. I did not want that to happen to me. "Olivia Koster," the lady read from her sticky note. Oh boy, I thought as I stepped onto the tramp. The lady helped me step into the harness, which was hard while wobbling on a trampoline. Now the butterflies were alive in my stomach. She tightened the straps and told me to hold onto the cords. She walked of the tramp and pressed a button. I felt the cords lift. I started to jump even though I was as nervous as a worm on a hot day. By the time she was done I was soaring ... • 5. How Many Licks Does It Take For The Center Of A Lollipop? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop? How many times can a company get away with offending the public? These questions have a lot more in common than someone might think. Everyone knows that the clever owl that asks us the lollipop questions, gets impatient with counting and then simply provides us with the answer of the 'world may never know'. Similarly, the amount of times Urban Outfitters has offending the public or will in the future without receiving any punishment is too large to count, therefore we give the same impassive answer that 'the world may never know'. In the United States of America, we are lucky enough to have freedom of speech and expression. However good or bad, we have the right to say or wear what we want without punishment. Though it is common sense that companies that sell merchandise are held to higher standards. Unfortunately some do not understand this unspoken rule, not only that but they abuse this right. The argument lies primarily with Urban Outfitters who has produced a multitude of clothing items that offend the wider public! Businesses should not be permitted to produce merchandise that offends the public because it hurts many people(s), encourages a negative mindset, and is used purely for publicity. In 2014, Urban Outfitters released a Kent State sweatshirt as an addition to their urban vintage line. In the line there were multiple other scholastic theme items including, "...Penn State, Bates College, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. What Is The Difference Between Hawkeyes And Iowa State... A Rivalry to Watch The game of basketball was created in 1891 by Dr. Hames Naismith. This game has spread world wide, but in Iowa there are no two teams more well known for basketball than the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones. A rivalry that started between the two colleges on February 5th, 1909, still continues today. Overall, the Iowa Hawkeyes lead in total wins against Iowa State with 44 while Iowa State has only beaten the Hawkeyes 26 times. Although both teams are proud Iowans, they have numerous differences in their records, coaches, and arenas. Since Hawkeye basketball began in 1892, they have had 121 seasons resulting in 1,618 wins, 1,142 losses, and 1 tie. The Hawkeyes belong to the Big Ten Conference, and have been conference champions 8 times in the regular season and 2 times in the tournament season. In tournament play the Hawks have made an appearance 25 times and advanced to the Final Four 3 times ("Iowa Hawkeyes College Basketball–Iowa News, Scores, Stats, Rumors & More"). Iowa State had a late start in the game opening its basketball program in 1907. The Cyclones have had 111 seasons resulting in 1,338 wins and 1,295 losses. Being in the Big 12 Conference, the cyclones have been conference champions 6 times in the regular season and 5 times in tournaments. They have made an appearance in tournaments 19 times, continuing to the Final Four only once ("Iowa State Cyclones"). Brian Tracy is Chairman and CEO of Brian Tracy International, a company specializing in the training and development of individuals and organizations. One of Tracy's popular quotes details communication and the significance that it has on our lives. The quote goes: "Communication is a skill that you can learn. It's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life." (Put source here) Throughout my interviews it became very evident that communication plays a critical role in the workplace. Derrik Netten, PJ Hogan, and John Little all outlined how communicating with coworkers, work affiliates, players, and even family members plays a huge part in how we operate day–to–day. Although Netten, Hogan, and Little all have different positions within the University of Northern Iowa Men's Basketball program, they each play their own part in driving the winning tradition forward in Cedar Falls. Netten serves as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Panthers, and is currently in his 11th year with the team. Prior to joining UNI, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin–Superior during the 2006–07 season, serving as the team's recruiting coordinator and basketball camps director. • 11. Essay On Swartdogs Competition The FIRST Iowa Regional Robotics Competition was held in the UNI Dome and McLeod Center just a few weeks ago, from March 23 through March 25. FIRST is all about combining science, technology and fun. High school students work in teams to design robots and complete complicated tasks under strict regulations in just six weeks. The competition offers a taste of real–world engineering as students are challenged to build a team and brand, enhance teamwork skills, raise funds, build and program a robot, form strategic alliances and compete against tough competition. On the last day of the competition, Saturday March 25, events started at 8:00 a.m. After a brief opening ceremony with the guest speaker, UNI President Mark Nook, the qualifying matches ... Though the Swartdogs didn't win the regional title this year, they are an incredibly successful team. In their 18–year history they have been regional winners 12 times and received numerous team awards. This year, the Swartdogs won the Creativity Award sponsored by Xerox, won their second Volunteer of the Year award and their fifth Woodie Flowers Award for outstanding team mentors. The last semifinal match was truly a show–stopper. The two alliances were so determined to make it into the final match that they tied their semifinal match six times! When a tie takes place there are certain point categories with more weight to decide the winner. However, the alliances were fighting so hard that their scores were identical six times in a row. This semifinal wowed the judges and the fans, and was an emotional rollercoaster right before the final match. When the tiebreakers were settled, the final two alliances faced off for the regional title. After the crazy semifinal battle, the atmosphere was intense. • 13. Importance Of Sports In My Life Sports have always been the go to activity in my life, whether it is playing, watching, or reading. I participated in a few sports but will play any sport for fun. I thrive to watch sports and keep up with the NFL, NBA, MLB, and all the college sports. My family has enjoyed sports forever and the love has been handed down from generation to generation. Issues in sports have always been around and will continue to be around for ages. In my early elementary days, I played upwards of 5 sports. Flag and tackle football brought me joy because I could throw the ball to the receivers or run downfield if they were not open. My high school did not offer soccer; therefore, I did not continue to play during my elementary years because of baseball. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now to professional teams, I have been a huge fan of the Denver Broncos since I could talk. I love Sports Authority Field and the entire city of Denver. It brought me joy when Peyton Manning joined them even though we all know the defense won them Super Bowl 50. When it comes to NBA and MLB, I do not have necessary favorite teams, but I have favorite players. In the NBA, I respect Lebron's game and the athletic ability he has brought into the NBA. I enjoy watching all the NBA games because of the crazy shots and adjustments they can make to get a bucket. The MLB attracts my attention the least barely liking any of the teams/players, so whenever I go to an MLB game I always cheer for the home team. Growing up in the middle of Iowa, several of my friends like Iowa State. I try to be respectful to them but I must put them in their place when they smack talk me. I have brainwashed my parents and siblings to like the Broncos and Hawkeyes along with me. My brothers–in–law are the toughest though because they are extremely big Cyclone fans. Personal issues that I have had in sports include coaching. At my school, my teammates dads were always the coach which makes it quite bias when they come to setting lineup. They always want the best results for their kid whether the game ends in a win or loss. The way I look at games is, I don't care what happens if we get the win. Life has waves of experiences that people often times don't dream of swimming in, making us drown in emotions, that sometimes, we don't think of surviving. I now understanding the saying of "escape from reality". I found my way to escape life. On July 19 of 2016 I was sent to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to have a surgery done that has took nine years to plan. The surgery was designed to expand the mandible bone, straighten it, and support it with six screws. As I was taken to my surgical room I saw my parents being taken back the pediatric unit to settle into my temporary home. The feeling of not having my parents by my side scared me more than what I was getting prepared for. After all my blood tests and shots I was sent to the surgical room, I remember walking into the room and seeing 20 people preparing for me. While I was being helped on to the bed, someone was placing my compression socks and the intermittent pneumatic compression devices on my legs. Once I got adjusted into the bed they placed a white blanket, intraoperative blanket, and the heated blanket, even though it was only three blankets it felt as if it was crushing me. My nurse held my hand as I started drifting off into sleep. After a five hour long surgery and an hour of sleep, My mom was sent back into the recovery room. Twelve million children in this country do not have health insurance, and over 4.5% of all children are victims of suspected child abuse or neglect (Doktor and Poertner). Believe it or not, these are all indicators of the demand for Family Resource Centers within our school systems. Many question whether Family Resource Centers are worth the money the state pours into them. However, in serving students, parents and teachers, there should be no question of their significance. In an interview with David Messer (operator of the Olive Hill Family Resource Center) I learned that the resource centers say, " Our mission with children is to help remove the physical, educational, and social barriers in order to see them succeed in school." and that " Our mission with parents is to empower them with resources and skill needed to meet the challenges in life." The mission statement of the resource centers may vary according to the area, but most followed the same concept. Growing up in a school system with Family Resource Centers, I must agree that they live up to their mission statement. They try to remove education barriers by offering tutoring, physical barriers by offering special education or medical assistance, and social barriers by providing students with anything to help them not stand out in the crowd. Family Resource Centers have a unique structure. Referring back to the Orientation Guide for Newly Employed FR/YSC Coordinators published by MSU's College of Education, Like any program, they have a director that is the supervisor over everything in the program for example keeping track of the funding and programs offered and the staff. In addition to the director you have the advisory councils. This group advises, councils and assists the center and it encourages interaction among the community, the school and the center. Monster Study Stuttering Theory The Monster Study Wendell Johnson devised the Monster study in 1939 at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans' Home in Dayton, Iowa to find the true cause of stuttering, which he and many others suffered from (Reynolds, 2003). The popular theory at the time was that stuttering was a physiological defect, meaning the brain's signals misfired; however, Johnson believed that stuttering was a "learned behavior and could be unlearned" (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). To see if his hypothesis was correct, Johnson devised an experiment now known as the "Monster Study." Before he could begin he requested the help of one of his students at the time, Mary Tudor, to carry out the experiment for him. Before the experiment "Tudor and 5 other graduate students ranked twenty–six children's speech on a scale of one to five, one being poor and five being fluent" (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). Based on this the children were separated into four groups: IA consisted of five children who stuttered, but were told nice things; IB consisted of five children who stuttered and were told negative things; IIA consisted of six children who did not stutter but, were told they did, and, IIB consisted of six children who did not stutter and were told nice things. Tudor used rehearsed responses such as," you will be able to speak even better than you are speaking now" on students in IA and responses such as" Don't ever speak unless you can do it right" on children in IIA (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag.). • 21. The History of Art at Iowa State University Essay Have you ever been to Iowa State University and seen all of the magnificent art that is located on campus? Iowa State is home to one of the largest campus public art collections in the United States. There are over 2,000 works of public art (George Washington Carver). The foundation of the contemporary Art on Campus Collection and Program began during the Depression in the 1930s, when Iowa State's President Hughes envisioned that, "The arts would enrich and provide substantial intellectual exploration into our college curricula" (George Washington Carver). Who doesn't love art? Every day you wake up and experience some sort of artwork; whether it's a sculpture or just seeing something made so wonderful. Walking across the magnificent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We live in a world where there is lots of judging and I believe people may not even give some art pieces a chance. In the 1940s, Christian Petersen sculpted a plaster figure of George Washington Carver. According to an article from Iowa State Museums, "This is one of the few free–standing, full length sculptures that Petersen ever made" (George Washington Carver). He sculpted Carver as an old man holding a single peanut in his hands. Petersen's intentions were to emphasize Carver's vision for the future of agriculture (George Washington Carver). George Washington Carver was the first African American to attend Iowa State, and I personally didn't know this until I saw the sculpture located near Carver Hall. Art has its meanings, even if sometimes you aren't looking for them. A quote from George Washington Carver shows how much he cared for this blessed university, "I have no words to adequately express my impressions of dear old I.S.C. (Iowa State College). All I am and all I hope to be, I owe in a very large measure to this blessed institution" (Mark Bagley). When this sculpture was first created Petersen wasn't able to cast this sculpture in bronze because the cost was too much money, so he painted the work of art to resemble bronze. The sculpture was originally put inside Carver Hall on the first floor lobby (George Washington Carver). • 23. Academic Dishonesty: University Of Iowa State Honesty Essay Sarah Boomgarden 8/22/17 Academic dishonesty is a crime that the University of Iowa State takes very seriously. There are several steps in the policy for dishonesty that ensure the student is well aware there is an issue and has a chance to give their side if they think their work was not dishonest. Academic dishonesty is not just in the form of using another student or persons work and handing it in. Trying to get a professor to give you a better grade or a friend to give you one of their assignment, by offering them some cash or other reward is also considered academically dishonest. If a student is suspected to have committed an act of dishonesty, the Dean of Students will be the first to know because the professor or TA are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Temple Grandin Reflection Paper Reflection: Temple Grandin Before watching the movie, I have never heard of it before. I never knew it existed. Temple Grandin is another inspiring movie that I have been glad to have watched. It deals with the autism of a woman and tells the inspiration true story of her. Temple Grandin, a young autistic woman, is extraordinarily gifted. She has a remarkable connection to animals and a brilliant mind. This biopic follows Temple from her late teens –– as she struggles with both her own limitations and some narrow–mindedness in the communities around her –– to her startling first accomplishments. With the help of a supportive family and one progressive teacher, Temple tackles misconceptions about her condition, the sexism of mid–20th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She became an animal scientist and a professor at the university. The protagonist, Temple Grandin, was able to explain and describe very skillfully how a person with this condition feels, hears, sees, perceives and thinks. She helps people peek inside the mind of a person with Asperger's syndrome – which facilitates good communication and better understanding. She demonstrates the importance of pictures in the mind of autisitc people and how powerful their visual skills can be. Another reason why I think this movie is such a great, inspirational movie is because of how a woman with autism can accomplish something so inspiring that shows people with autism shouldn't be viewed as someone who can't do much or someone who doesn't have the skills and knowledge to do what normal people can. Temple Grandin has probably made a big difference in what people think of ones who have autism and I think that is great. Just because a person has autism doesn't necessarily mean that people don't have autism should view them as someone lower than themselves. People with autism are only stronger–willed and even though they may have difficulty with life, Temple Grandin shows that it doesn't matter if you have autism or not because you can achieve your goals, you just need that determination in your life. From this movie, I have learned that no matter how small other people may think of you, you have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. "Oranges" by Gary Soto Essay "Oranges" By Gary Soto Gary Soto was born April 12, 1952, in Fresno, California to Mexican–American parents. His grandparents emigrated from Mexico during the Great Depression and found jobs as farm laborers. Soto grew up poor in the San Joaquin Valley and learned that hard work pays off through chores, such as moving lawns, picking grapes, painting houses, and washing cars. When Gary was five his father died as the result of a factory accident, and his mother was left to raise her three children with the help of her parents. He told his girlfriend that she can chose any kind of candy found in the isle, and she chose a chocolate bar that cost a dime, now the boy only had a nickel and a pair of oranges in his pocket. Instead of feeling embarrassed and cheep in front of his new girl, the boy decided to put up the nickel and an orange on the counter for the saleslady. Oranges are rare in the winter and their encounter might be precious. They convey a powerful feeling. Making fire in the hands represents that he is in love. That he feels God like, he feels tough like he can do it all when he's around his girlfriend. The tone of the poem is simple with broken down sentences. Adolescent love is simple much like childhood love. There are the sweaty hands, heavy breathing, butterflies in the stomach, but when kids fall in love, its not true love, it most likely is just a crush. • 29. The College Of Design At Iowa State University I created a poster to show how the sculpture, "Sequence" represents the College of Design. To show this, I decided to make the poster about the College of Design at Iowa State University. The audience of this poster is the students because they are the people that would be applying to be a design student. To catch the attention of students, I thought a poster would work better so when they walk by throughout a busy day they will notice it. I also wanted the poster to be landscape or more horizontal because the sculpture is the largest item on the poster and would make it more convenient. This poster's purpose is to encourage students to apply to the College of Design. I chose the title, "Do You Have Qualities of a Design Student?" because I wanted to connect to the students on campus. I also put this at the top of the page so students see this first. This would make them continue to read the poster until they hit the bottom of the page which states, "Apply to the College of Design Today!". This makes them leave the poster with a clear purpose which is to apply to the design program. I also wanted to include the academic departments of the College of Design. I included that on the left side of the page so it isn't distracting, but still available for students to read. This informs students what programs the College of Design provides. • 31. The Economic Impacts of Budget Cuts to the CSU and UC Systems This paper will focus on the economic impacts of the policy decision by California Governor Brown to decrease funding of the California State University and University of California systems by way of looking at the impact on the economy of less college graduates. I will do this by looking at two variables. I will first look at the multiplier effect of the state putting money into the California State University system and what will happen as a result of the divestment due to the budget cuts. I will then look at the decrease in the median income due to the fact that the budget cuts will cause a decrease in enrollment which means there will be fewer college graduates and college graduates earn more money than their non–graduate counterparts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (California State Governor's Office) According to a report presented to the Office of the Chancellor by IFC International for every one dollar spent by the state on the California State University system "the CSU generates $5.43 for California's economy annually. When enhanced earnings by graduates are taken into account, the annual return rises to more than $23 for each $1 invested." (ICF International) This, however, does not necessarily mean than the $542.4 million in cuts is multiplied by $23, resulting in a total decrease of $12.475 billion in spending. This is because the relationship isn't necessarily completely linear. Since the decrease is only 8.5% then the relationship might still be linear, which would mean that there will be $12.475 billion in spending lost. The other reality might be that it is not linear, which would mean the total loss of spending would be less than $12.475 billion. Another area I will look at for the California State University system's budget cuts is the resulting enrollment cuts. With less money coming in from the state the universities have to save money by enrolling fewer students. However, the money cut from the CSU budget doesn't have a direct relationship to a decrease in enrollment. The change in enrollment is determined by the universities and is filled every semester. However, today we have so many opportunities to travel the world as young people. Iowa State University has focused on giving students of all different backgrounds the ability to go out and experience the world. Analysis of Mission Iowa State University prides itself on its mission to "Create, share, and apply knowledge to make Iowa and the world a better place" (Iowa State University Office of the President: Mission and Vision). This mission focuses on the success of each and every student that attends Iowa State. In order for Iowa State's Study Abroad program to follow the foundational mission of the entire university, it had to create a mission that also focused on the students. The mission they have formed and stand today consists of: putting emphasis on developing strong international adventures. In order for students to go out to other countries to receive a quality education, the Study Abroad program must create a strong base on which they are able to form equal quality education as Iowa State provides no matter where a student goes. While sitting between two of the best speech coaches in Northwest Iowa, I felt my heart race as they began announcing the Critic's Choice Award for the ten different areas of large group speech. The atmosphere was that of the Academy Awards in CY Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University for the 31st IHSSAAll–State Large Group Speech Festival on Saturday, February 18. Students sat on the main level of the packed auditorium while family and friends filled the balcony. As I glanced over at Joel Stauffer and Todd McDonald, I realized there was no other place I would rather be. Our choral reading, "Wild at Heart" earned a chance to perform at the festival. The only times our school has won a banner was in 1991 for the ensemble, "'Night Mother" under the direction of Mr. McDonald and in 1981 for duet acting. Earning a banner is a hard thing to do. What is Iowa State's highlight, the tip of the iceberg. What comes to mind is the Reiman Gardens because although it is a small part of Iowa State's campus, it is part of something much larger and complex that is usually hidden from the crowd. To explain the value of the Reiman Gardens, I will be focusing on the garden's history, the role it plays in Iowa State, how it is connected to Iowa State's mission statement, and how it pertains to Iowa State as a land–grant university. To begin, the Reiman Gardens was not built in just a day; it was always an unfinished project. Moreover, the garden regularly had renovations, which is why it was a work in progress. The Campaign, A Good And Positive Light Identity As we created this campaign, we developed several themes, symbols, motives and values in order to bring the project together and ensure the audience would receive it favorably, or in a beneficial and positive light. In the campaign, there are two primary themes, the first of which is recognition. In general, KULT is an unknown and ambiguous organization that needs to build a brand or an image for itself among students. The second theme of the campaign is unity. KULT wants to be seen as an organization that offers specific services and content to students who listen to the station or work for it. The goal of the campaign, then, is to provide a unified message to the audience showing exactly what KULT is, what it can do for students, and what it means to be involved. The message will unify the student body by presenting these facts, creating a sense of understanding and interest in the station. These two themes are carried out in several ways. Our motive is to bring students together in recognizing and understanding KULT so they can not only enjoy it, but take advantage of it. Our values are focused around those of KULT: offering something new and fun to benefit the panther community in whatever ways they can and building a community in the station. Then I keep walking until I see the library in front of me. I usually go to the first floor where there are a lot of computers that anyone can use. I just turn on a computer and start doing my ... • 57. Communication Reflection Paper At times, circumstances in life can unknowingly guide one on a path leading to a promising and rewarding career. Thanks to my family and sister, I am here today. When I was four years old, my younger sister Carly was diagnosed with a rare developmental disorder, called Smith–Magenis Syndrome (SMS). Of course at the time I did not understand what this meant, but as we got older, many of Carly's challenges were attributes that came easily to me and other typically developing kids. One of her biggest challenges was – and still is today – is communicating effectively. For instance, Carly didn't use full words until early elementary school. Before that, she communicated mostly through pointing or using monosyllabic repetitions when she wanted objects. At worst, she would express her thoughts and frustrations through outbursts. From this young age, I was able to observe Carly and her SLP work on improving her communication, either in our home or during her speech sessions at the therapy clinic. However during my high school career, becoming an SLP was just in the back of my mind, and was never my first choice. It didn't become prominent until entered my freshman year of college at the University of Iowa, and took the Intro to Speech & Hearing Processes and Disorders class. Throughout the semester I not only became interested in the concepts I previously experienced through my sister, but also in concepts I had never heard of or thought twice about like stuttering, aphasia, and ... • 59. Routine Activities Theory According to the routine activities theory, the cause of crime should not be attributed to social causes, such as poverty, inequality, and unemployment, rather it holds that crime is the result of opportunity. The more opportunity there is for crime, the more likely that crime will occur in that specific area. However, in order for there to be an increased opportunity for crime, the three necessary conditions of this theory must be present: a likely offender, a suitable target, and the absence of capable guardianship. Consequently, the routine activities theory is a strong explanation for crime in Ames, Iowa. According to Area Vibes, Ames has crime rates that are 25% lower than the Iowa mean and 37% lower than the nation's mean. Yet, while Ames has relatively low crime rates, crime is not non–existent, and poverty, unemployment, and inequality are unsuccessful attempts to explain it. Home of Iowa State University, Ames ranked third in the nation for Best College–Town last year, and the area continues to grow not only in population, but also in diversity and opportunity as over 35,000 students pour in from all over the world every year. Thus, it seems that crime in Ames is best explained by the growing opportunity for crime as the routine activities theory holds, rather than unfavorable social conditions. In a community with relatively low crime rates, it can be difficult to point out areas in Ames that are at the most risk for crime. However, after looking at crime data and ... • 61. Wayne State Essay Introduction Arriving to campus on time has usually been an issue for commuting Canadian students. This is not only a problem for them, but Wayne State is also affected in the process. With students arriving late, there would be missed lectures and barely any work done. In turn, Wayne State's reputation as a school is affected negatively as these commuters would start considering switching to other schools. In fact, some high school graduates from Canada would not even think about attending classes at Wayne State due to its lack of an uncomplicated transportation system. The main purpose of this report is to help Wayne State figure out a way to implement an alternative means of transportation to the current one these students are using, which is using two buses. Currently, using the tunnel and city buses causes unnecessary delays for the students and makes them arrive to class either really late or the minute it starts. By making transportation easier for them, it would. However, Wayne State must decide on the method of transportation they could use in order to help their Canadian students. The proposed solutions in this document was developed from information obtained via research, such as, but not limited to, student surveying. Research Methods In order to compile this report, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, creating a travel agency might seem like a good idea; however, it is highly unlikely that Wayne State would be able to implement this system because buses are usually run by the city. That leaves the other two ideas. Creating an app like Uber might be possible because unlike buses, cars are not run by the city. As for creating an online carpooling system, it is also very likely that Wayne State could do this because other good schools have done it, such as Oklahoma State University and the University of ... No further details are available."("Crime Alert", DoS) It is not a typical weekend if my email is not bombarded with Crime Alerts from the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety. Normally I brush these messages off and continue to enjoy my weekend, but this time it was different. My floormates in my dorm call me over urgently, "Maxx, did you see the crime alert in the email? This is a necessary and invaluable policy to have, but after doing in–depth research, there is one main controversy making people believe the system needs to be changed, and that is the identification exploitation within the emails and the effect it has on the community in terms explicit and implicit racial profiling. According to the Daily Aztec news source, which has been an independent news source for San Diego State University since 1913, The Afrikan Student Excellence Council (ASEC) held meetings alongside other cultural groups across campus to discuss racial profiling in the San Diego State University Police department 's crime alerts (Lozano). One of their supporters Shellie Stamps, who is the Association of Africana Studies Majors and Minors President said, "The Main Concern, which was cause for the meeting, was racial profiling" (Lozano). As the meeting went on, students offered testimonies about incidents in which they were victims of the crime alerts, similar to my own scenario. Students said that the "ambiguity" of the crime alerts targeted African American males which alluded them to be subjected to many uncomfortable situations and very insensitive racial jokes. One of the victims, named Jonathan Cunha, told his story and said, "Last year I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Persuasive Essay On The Java House The Java House, located on East Washington Street in Iowa City, Iowa is a major study hub for students attending the University of Iowa. The founder, Tara Cronbaugh, opened the first Java House locations in 1994 after taking a trip to The University of California, Berkeley and developing a fascination with coffee house ambience. Cronbaugh admired the relaxing, yet social environment of the coffee houses on Berkeley's campus. She felt she had a mission to bring that same ambience to a place back in Iowa City for the students at The University of Iowa. Since then, hundreds of University students visit the Java House every week to enjoy a wide range of beverages or homemade pastries. However, The Java House has become much more of a study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It makes logical sense to allow a table to be open for students who genuinely need to be there. Another way The Java House convinces students at The University of Iowa to get their coffee to go if they aren't going to study is by appealing to pathos, or emotions. The Java House engages all the senses to promote a studious environment. Immediately entering the coffee shop, one will notice it is dimly lit, with a darker color scheme and warm–toned antique furniture. The color scheme, as well as the lighting, invoke a sense of relaxation into University of Iowa student customers that is perfect for studying and not so much for socialization. Although many students have earbuds or headphones in, low volume, calm music plays throughout the shop. The music volume and genre allow for students to stay on task and not to get distracted easily. The subtle smell of coffee also engulfs the whole shop, creating an even more relaxing atmosphere. Lastly, when looking around one will notice the vast majority of students are doing school work. All the senses work together to communicate that The Java House is a quiet, relaxing environment ideal for studying and productivity, not for friendly get–togethers or dates. Therefore, if that was a student's intention they should get their coffee and go somewhere else more lively, fun, or casual, so they could better enjoy themselves and make sure not to disturb or distract those working at The Java House. His prairie schooner drawn by oxen, his log cabin...his prairie of a thousand variable charms...his founding of government... all these, because they are long past and we are proud of the courage and hardihood of our fathers...and a little proud of ourselves for having descended from them – all these transmuted to the very stuff of fable, the very texture of myth. The glory of Lincoln is not unconnected with the pioneer's proper glory, for Lincoln was subject to hardships of the early settlers. – Frank Luther Mott, 1923 Breaking the Prairie by Grant Wood is one of the most renowned mural arts among the Iowa State University ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be explained particularly in the case of the Morrill Act signed by the former president himself in 1862, which established the donation of public lands to various states in order to establish universities with three land–grant ideals: higher education that is accessible to all, the obligations of universities to teach liberal arts and practical subjects, and to share knowledge far beyond the campus borders. Iowa was the first state to accept the Act, making Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm the nation's first land–grant institution. Until today, Iowa State still remains true to the land–grant missions, and continues to strive for excellence as a national leader of modern land–grant institutions. Speaking of which, I realize the first land–grant ideal: "Open higher education to all regardless of race, gender and background" is closely associated with one of the greatest achievements of Lincoln – the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation that led to the abolishment of slavery in the United States. If it were not for Lincoln's contributions, the ideal might have not been made possible. Furthermore, the incorporation of Lincoln–esque figures as laboring men in the mural reflects the former president's humble origins, whose hard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was the assistant coach at Pennsylvania State University under the legendary Joe Paterno for 30 years. He was the defensive coordinator for the football team. He is also the founder of The Second Mile. The Second Mile is a non–profit organization that serves underprivileged youth. This is where Jerry Sandusky had met many of his victims. Baumhover Iowa State University Have you ever wondered why two people with the same job and in the same environment may perform differently or have a different viewpoint of their job? Of course everyone is different, but what is different? Perhaps it could be their motivation to perform their duties. According to David McClelland (1993), cognitive intelligence is not the best predictor of occupational status or job performance. Many people ignore the social factors that contribute to job performance, like motivation. It is hard to accurately measure motivation; that is why motivation theories are created and used (Liu & Arendt, 2014). There are many theories of motivation and ... Affiliation means "The desire for friendly and close interpersonal relationships." These types of people like working for organizations that commit and value their employees (Liu & Arendt, 2014). Moberg and Leasher (2011) say that people with the need for affiliation have the strong desire to be liked, accepted, and held with a high regard by others as well as engaging with others. It is all about having the sense of belonging in workplace. Sometimes people with the need for affiliation are so focused on being well liked, they just "go with the flow" of other employees to avoid future conflict. As a supervisor, I would put these types of people to work together as a team on projects but watch out for those who don't contribute when they should be. When meeting with them one–on–one, it would be a good idea to express how I trust them and value them as an employee and make that connection with them that they are longing for. The last need of McClelland's Theory is Power. In this context, power means "The need to make others behave in a way that they would not have behaved otherwise" (Liu & Arendt, 2014). Since my house is somewhat far away, I walk for a decent amount of time. My total moderate intensity equivalent minutes for the week adds up to 485 minutes, all of this is walking around at about three miles per hour. I did not partake in any muscle strengthening days during the past week. I simply do not have enough time to go work out at the rec center, even though I would love to weight lift there. Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University Essays Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University The Background of the Costs of Tuition at Iowa State University Iowa State University is a land grant school which, among other things, means that the university gets money from the state of Iowa from the taxes that residents pay to the state. Because of this in state residents who choose to go to the university do not have to pay a large amount of money while out–of–state residents have to pay almost twice as much. The students that come to Iowa State are not all Iowa residents. The out–of–state residents are the ones who have to pay a great deal of money to attend the university. These students should not feel that many of the doors to the kind of education they would like have been shut in their face because of the amount of money it costs to attend many universities. To help solve many problems for out– of–state students, their tuition for attending Iowa State University should be set around $5000. By setting it at an amount that is only about $3000 less than the present out–of–state tuition it will make it much more affordable for the students and the University will not lose money. Needs for Changing the Tuition at ISU The needs for the decrease in out–of–state tuition at the university can be seen in several areas, such as the community diversity, availability of education to all, and the income based discrimination of students. Iowa State university does not have a very diverse community. During the 1998–1999 school year 78.8 percent of the total population at Iowa State University was of Iowa residency.
