According to Stephen Robbins, a group is defined as two or more individuals interacting and interdependent to achieve a common objective. Groups go through five stages of formation: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. In the forming stage, there is strong dependence on the leader and uncertainty. The storming stage involves strongly expressed views and challenges to leadership. During norming, there is active listening and shared leadership. In the performing stage, groups achieve high creativity and openness. Finally, adjourning occurs when the group completes its task and disbands.
