3. What is Road ?
A Road is a long piece of hard ground which is built
between two places so that people can drive or ride
easily from one place to the to the other.
ASPHALT
Asphalt is a composed mix of Aggregate, sand, stone
dust, bitumen.
95% stone, sand And 5% Bitumen.
Density = 2330 kg/m3
5. The sub grade is the layer of naturally occurring material or the fill material the
road is built upon.
The strength of the subgrade layer is an important factor influencing the
thickness of the road pavement design
9. It is a road base material consisting of crushed rock/slag
usually premixed with controlled amount of water sufficient
for adequate compaction.
10. The road base is the main load-bearing, load, load spreading
layer. In road structure usually 120 mm or more thick depending
on the loading of the traffic for which the road is designed. The
road base is usually a bituminous material, dense bitumen
macadam (asphalt concrete) or hot rolled asphalt.
12. BITUMEN MACADAMA(BM)
Bituminous macadam shall consist of mineral aggregate
and appropriate binder, mixed in a hot mix plant and laid
with a mechanized paver.
