Joan Of Arc Significance
How significant was Joan of Arc towards French victory In the Loire campaign 1429?
Joan of Arc is a prominent figure in European history, however, most of the history surrounding the
maid of Orleans "La Pucelle d'Orléans" (Lanhers and Vale, 2016), is generally focused on
debunking her claims of being sent by God, and the possible reasons for her hearing voices. This
essay will focus less on the legitimacy of her claims of being a prophet of God, and instead will
focus on the effect they had, along with her abilities as a commander to achieving victory in the
Loire campaign. It will focus on the importance of her first military victory, lifting the siege of
Orleans before the start of the Loire campaign, and how its effect on the morale of ... Show more

Joan of Arc
Have you ever heard about Joan of Arc? She was a military leader who led the France's army during
the Hundred Years War, at a young age. When Joan of Arc was a little girl she had visions, and
decided to meet the Dauphin of France to convince him of leaving her to lead an army and fight
against England to make free Orleans. Joan of Arc was a strong woman who believed in God and
helped her country to win the battle, without military training. Jehanne de Vouthon, known as Joan
of Arc was born in 1412, in France; she lived in a religious home. She helped her family in domestic
work, at the farm of her father. But one day, at age of twelve years old, Joan of Arc had a very
significant vision that would change her life. She saw the Archangel Michael , telling her that she

she was taken to the marketplace in Rouen and burned at the stake. She was 19 years old a. But
some years later, the Church said that she was innocent and became a saint on May 16, 1920.
In conclusion, Joan of Arc was a great and brave woman who had visions from the archangel
Michael and fought to make free Orleans, also she died as a martyr and is considered as a heroine of
France for her role during the Hundred Years' War. I really think that this woman is an example to

Joan Of Arc Essay
She is the youngest war commander of all time. ("Joan of Arc Speech") She was a woman who did
all that it took to save France and did it in just a year. She's an inspiration to people then and now.
Despite not being able to read or write, she inspired, accomplished, and led. She was a peasant girl
only 13 years old when her life changed, a war heroine just 19 years old when she died, and a Saint
to the Catholic Church forever. Who is she? She is Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc's bold leadership skills
affected not only the political matters of France, but also the Catholic Church.
Joan of Arc accomplished numerous things in such a short lifetime. She was born on January 6,
1412 to Jacques D'arc and Isabelle Romée in Domremy, France ("Joan of Arc Saves, Lives 19–21,
Daring 84–85). Between the ages of 12 and 13 Joan heard voices of angels telling her she was meant
to save France. She left home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her legacy doesn't end with her religion. France may still be under England if she hadn't stood up
and fought. She endured battles and death for her country. In her Orléans, she was shot. In
Compiénge, she was captured. In Rouen, she died. Joan helped save France and without her, who
knows what state France would be in today ("Joan of Arc Biography", "Joan of Arc Timeline", "Joan
of Arc"). Would the sewing machine even exist? Would 1800's Italian scientist, Alessandro Volta
still have invented the battery? Would the world be in more war? The world has changed because of
her and the consequences of her not making a change, do not have to be faced. France has shown
multiple ways of celebrating this war heroine. Joan's hometown Domremy changed its name to
Domremy–La–Pucelle. Joan was known as La Pucelle meaning the Maid. Domremy–La–Pucelle
means in honor of the Maid ("Joan of Arc–Fun). She also has a feast day May 30 and a French
holiday, the second Sunday in May ("Joan of

Joan Of Arc Witchcraft is an on going concern throughout all ages in history. Many people believe
in the power of darker forces. Most fear those with special gifts and begin to make accusations
formulated through jealousy. Joan of Arc was one of those people that had many gifts and foresaw
the future through divine intervention. Burned at the stake for being accused and tried as being a
witch, she never gave up her pride or lost faith in her God. Joan was born in 1412 and lived in a
small village called Domremy, which is located in the Champagne district of northeastern France.
She grew up as the daughter of a farmer. Often working on the farm and tending to the animals, Joan
lived the life of a peasant woman.1 She did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The English captured Joan outside the gate and later was sold back to the Spanish for ten thousand
pounds. The Spanish immediately put her in a jail and charged her with being a witch and a heretic.5
The "voices" that Joan claimed to hear led to her arrest and accusation of being a witch. At the age
of thirteen Joan started to hear voices. Accompanied by a blaze of light, Joan could somehow
distinguish these voices into Saints through their dialogue.6 Among these saints she recognized St.
Michael, St. Margaret, and St. Catherine. 7 One of the first "voices" that Joan heard, told her about a
battle just outside Orleans, in Herring. Joan was instructed by the voices to go to the king so that she
could lead France to victory over the English and to crown the rightful king, Charles VII. She went
to a man named Robert Bandricourt, who commanded a neighboring town, and requested him to
take her to the king. When he denied her right to see the king, so she confessed to him what the
voices told her. After hearing her prediction of the lost battle, the king agreed to meet with Joan.
After their meeting everything was in place to start fighting the English out of France.8 Another one
of the voices told Joan to take arms against the British. At first she refused and told the voice that

Joan Of Arc, By Jeanne D ' Arc
Contents Introduction 1 Body 3 Conclusion 7 References 8 Introduction Jeanne d'Arc, better known
as Joan of Arc, was born on the 6th of January in Domremy, which is a village in France. At the time
France was in conflict with England. This encounter was better known as The Hundred Years' War.
The Hundred Years ' War was a series of conflicts which took place from 1337 to 1453 by the House
of Plantagenet, rulers of the Kingdom of England, against the House of Valois, rulers of the
Kingdom of France, for control of the Kingdom of France. Both of Joan's parents were farmers, she
was not taught to read or write, but her god–loving mother instilled in her a deep love for the
Catholic Church and its teachings which is what played a role in Joan being known as the heroine of
France by playing a very significant role in the Hundred Years' War. She received visions from St
Michael and from God regarding the war in which she promised Charles, who was heir to the throne
at the time, that she would give him his rightful seat on the throne. At the time there were false
accusations that Charles was not supposed to be King, so Henry V was king over both England and
France. In 1429 Joan convinced Charles, the Dauphin (heir to the crown) to send her to the battles,
saying she had received visions from God telling her to drive out the English. Joan brought an
inspiring spirit to the battle that increased the soldiers' morale to take the battle

Leadership Of Joan Of Arc
There have been many astonishing military leaders. From Alexander the Great, to Julius Caesar, to
Constantine the Great, and to Saladin. However, how many female military leaders do you know?
Joan of Arc is one of the most successful female leaders out there. Before she led an army, Joan was
just an ordinary peasant living in medieval France. She believed that God had selected her to lead a
victory over England. She convinced prince Charles of Valois to allow her to lead a French army to
the confined city of Orléan, where it achieved a momentous victory over the English and their
French allies, the Burgundians. After the prince was crowned King Charles VII, Joan was seized by
Anglo–Burgundian forces. She was then tried for witchcraft along with heresy, and was found
guilty. Since she was found guilty, she was burned at the stake in 1431, at the age of 19. In 1920 she
was canonized, but had long been considered one of the greatest saints, and an permanent symbol of
French unity. Joan of Arc was from the village of Domrémy, in northeastern France. She was the
daughter of a tenant farmer, named Jacques d'Arc. In fact, Joan of Arc is the translated English
name. Her real name is Jeanne d'Arc. Joan was not taught to read or write, but instead taught to love
her Catholic Church and its teachings. During this time, France was at war with England. (which is
later known as the Hundred Years' War) When she was 13, Joan began to hear voices. She decided
that these voices were sent

Joan Of Arc Argument
Joan of Arc was a young woman who came from very humble roots, and eventually overcame these
roots through God in order to fight for war torn France. In Donald Spoto's, Joan: The Mysterious
Life of the Heretic Who Became a Saint, Joan is portrayed as having many visions from God telling
her what to do, and eventually following them which began to prove France wrong about women in
battle. After many victorious battles, she was captured, locked up in a cell and held for ransom until
Cauchon, who was trying to eliminate the king in power in France and gain the bishop position at
Rouen, bought Joan, and charged her for being a heretic. She was found guilty on these charges and
burned at the stake, all with unbroken faith. Joan's conviction ... Show more content on

These principles can most likely be seen present day through the Principles of Catholic Social
Teaching, which many who read about Joan of Arc would argue were nonexistent at this time due to
the atrocities that were committed against her–this is wrong. The website for the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops states that, "God reveals himself to us as one who is not alone, but
rather as one who is relational, one who is Trinity" ("Catholic Social Teaching"). I believe this is
where the teachings relate to Joan because throughout her life, God is constantly showing her that
she is not alone by guiding her through each battle that she faces. Her story of everlasting faith
promotes the teachings and gives true backing to them that would otherwise be nonexistent. I
believe that it is very anachronistic to view modern social teachings and try to apply them to
medieval times because society and cultural norms were so different. To try to apply these teachings
to medieval times would be like giving Joan of Arc an iPhone and telling her to make a call, she
would have no idea what those words even meant or the context in which you used them, and the
same is for the teachings. The ideas of dignity and respect have changed so much over the years that
medieval people would be very surprised at the kinds of rights, and the ideas that religious society
has today, especially considering that not everyone today is religious. I believe these ideas would
not even have really been introduced to them, especially in such mass amounts of

Joan Of Arc Argument
Joan of Arc was a teenage girl who heard visions from God to lead an army. She believed that God's
plan for France was to push the English Kingdom out. She approached the king with the statement
that she was from God and that was her message that she was bringing God into the war. Joan
proved that a woman could lead a battlefield but the end result is unfortunate. Joan had nothing to
fear because God was on her side and sent her to do this, lead an army. Joan eventually becomes
sentenced as a heretic after failing her one–day given mission to kick the English out of France and
take Paris. Because Joan was supposed to be a messenger from God and claimed something was
going to happen but didn't, the question is, then what? She is seen as a heretic ... Show more content

The trial was to show that Joan is a heretic and that the messages were not from God. There's a
fantastic amount of evidence from the trial because the English wanted it to stand as a historical
testimonial to the truth that Joan was indeed a heretic. As the interrogations grew more intense, she
was pushed to give greater details and concrete information of the voices and sounds she was
hearing as well as images. The more descriptive Joan became the less credible and trustable her
word was. Her claims are then rather seen as human fabrications or from the devil. Joan is trying to
make truth of it though for she has no clue or theological training. She's telling them what they want
to hear without even realizing it because she whole–heartedly believes it. When it came down to the
deliberations, "Forty–seven masters gave their opinions; most stated their support for the decisions
of the University of Paris, that unless Joan abjured, she should be condemned as a heretic and
delivered to secular justice; some also recommended that Joan be warned one last time; some said
that the case could be concluded and the sentence pronounced on the same day; some deferred to the
judges for subsequent procedure."13 Joan fears for what the verdict could be and recants, "Then in
the presence of the above and before a great crowd of clergy and people, she pronounced her
recantation and abjuration, according to the text of a certain schedule in French that was read for
her, which she pronounced and signed with her hand [...]."14 Her head is then shaved and she is put
back into prison because she had accepted that she was a

Joan Of Arc Monologue
As I walked among the frozen souls, the silence that surrounded them was deafening. My guide,
Joan of Arc fell silent for once in her life, for it was her inspiring words that led to victories for
France in the Hundred Years War. Though now honored among the archangels, Joan chose to lead
souls through the depths of the Inferno to reach Paradiso and continue her life's work to inspire
others. And now she lead me through the 9th circle of hell, into the farthest edges of the cavern
where I could no longer seeing front of me. Before I could turn to Joan and ask her where we were
going, she shoved me from behind and I plunged headfirst, falling down, down, into the darkness,
eventually landing at the bottom of a pit. Silence, and then, Joan materialized ... Show more content

"Who lies on the other sides?" I asked. "Those are the priests who defiled the name of God" replied
Joan. "Those who raped those who they taught and took funds from the poor for their own selfish
greed, who turned away the starving and yet adorned their churches in gold. They are eternally
frozen, naked and ashamed, and constantly taunted by Belial, the demon of guilt. Their regret
overwhelms them and eats them alive– literally. But no matter." and my Guide grabbed my hand and
brought me to the doors of the cathedral, where the heat was almost unbearable. "Inside?!" I asked,
with a surprise as she flung open the doors with a wave of her hand. Inside, fires raged with even
more passion and I saw, to my surprise, thousands upon thousands of pyres, and damned souls tied
to stakes above them, naked and beaten to almost beyond recognition. But what truly struck me was
the noise– there had been such silence for so long, and now, the cries of anguish and pain nearly
broke my heart. I turned away, and Joan led me to a twisting staircase, and we began climbing and
climbing, up and up the spire.

Joan of Arc
Throughout history people have made a name for themselves by their actions. From Napoleon to
Amelia Earhart, individuals have been recognized through their accomplishments. The faithful Joan
of Arc has done the same. Joan broke through the boundaries for women of her time and,
consequently, is one of the most famous young women in history. This statement is profoundly
accurate because she was such a young girl with an extremely powerful devotion to God. But just
how did Joan's intense dedication to God influence her brief life? Joan of Arc was born in Domrémy,
France in 1412, 75 years after the Hundred Years' War broke out. By the time Joan was thirteen she

The voices told Joan to leave her home, the only place she had ever known, to become a soldier, and
to participate in war. The voices also insisted Joan take a vow of chastity, which she so willingly did.
Joan's God wanted her to risk her life, to escort men into battle to crown a king. Joan was urged to
leave behind everything she had ever known to support her God. She boldly left her family with no
more than a second glance because she was so fixed on what God wanted her to do. She knew what
she had to do: crown the dauphin king of France, Charles VII. Surprisingly, Joan gained Charles'
support, quite quickly, through God. Joan joined Charles' forces and before long, she was given an
army and charged into Orléans to begin battle with the English. Joan's success only lasted nine
months, but the battles she won were so important to the French that it seems they lasted much
longer. Her luck changed in May 1430, when she was captured by the Burgundians, the soldiers who
ruined her town almost 20 years ago, and then sold to the English. From this point on Joan would no
longer be a soldier but a prisoner for the rest of her life and this was the will of Joan's God.
Throughout her imprisonment and trial held by the English, Joan kept her faith in God alive. This
would have been difficult for someone without such a strong belief in God, for it was God who
encouraged Joan to go to

Joan was brown the year of 1412, her birth place was in Domremy Bar, France. Joan was what you
would call your average citizen during the 1400s. Joan lived on a poor farm with her parents Jacques

seamstress. Joan had not attended school for her parents were too poor and she was a girl. In Joan's
free time she would admire the work of past war plans, Joan was fascinated by their war strategies.
These were some of the events during Joan's childhood. Joan never had much of an adult hood, she
had no husband or child just a father and a mother. The only home Joan had was her family's farm in
Domremy, France. On May 30, 1431 was the day Joan was burned at the stack in a marketplace in
Rouen in front of over 100,000 people. What made Joan most famous was the day she lead a

Joan Of Arc As A Saint
From Stake to Saint Medieval knights are known for being strong, brave, and faithful. However, a
well–known warrior in the Hundred Years' War also shares these attributes. What makes her
different is that she was a French peasant girl. At the age of 13, Joan of Arc heard voices from God
telling her to save France. In the midst of the Hundred Years' War, a conflict between England and
France for the French throne, Joan was told to drive the English out of France, and see that Charles
VII receive the crown. As a devout Catholic, Joan was going to make sure this happened. Joan's
courage and determination let her accomplish her task. Even in her darkest times, she stayed strong
and faithful. She inspires people to this day, and left a legacy. Even though she was burned at the
stake after being accused of witchcraft, she is remembered as a saint and a hero. Joan of Arc's many
achievements in battle and her legacy in French history lived on for her to become a saint centuries
later. Joan of Arc started her journey to becoming a saint in 1428, when she felt that heavenly voices
spoke to her (Beck 360). The voices informed her that Charles VII was the true king of France, and
needed to get the crown. He was called Dauphin, or rightful heir. Joan seeked an audience with him,
and ventured to Vaucouleurs, a stronghold of Charles VII, where she told the captain of the garrison
about her visions. Unfortunately, he did not believe her, so he sent her home. However, Joan refused

Joan Of Arc : The Hero Of Joan Of Arc
Anyone can be a hero. No matter who they are, if they have the drive, bravery, and determination to
fully fight for their beliefs no matter the cost, they can be a hero. Joan of Arc left her family and
home to defend her country. Joan of Arc is a hero because she fought for her country and her people,
despite all of the challenges she faced.
Joan of Arc grew up in a country at war, which motivated her to fight. France was in the middle of
the Hundred Year's War, "an intermittent struggle between England and France in the 14th–15th
century over a series of disputes, including the question of the legitimate succession to the French
crown" ("Hundred"). This international conflict led to chaos and disagreement inside France, and
two disagreeing parties emerged. The Armagnacs believed that Charles VII was the rightful king of
France while the Burgundians supported the Duke of Burgundy and his son, John the Fearless
("Hundred"). Joan of Arc was born in the small village of Dorémy around 1412 ("Joan"). She grew
up in a very Catholic family, and at the age of 13 she had visions with "the voices of St. Michael, St.
Catherine of Alexandria, and St. Margaret of Antioch" (Vale and Lanhers) who told her that it was
her divine purpose to free France from England and bring Charles VII to the throne. This inspired
her to leave her village and family behind to meet the prince.
Joan of Arc led her people to victory and helped turn the tide for the Armagnacs and the success of
France, despite the danger she faced. After leaving her village, Joan of Arc travelled to Vaucouleur, a
Armagnac stronghold. There, she met with Robert de Baudricourt, the commander of the garrison
(Vale and Lanhers). She asked him to allow her to meet the King, but he dismissed her. She soon
returned, this time with "a small band of followers who believed her claims to be the virgin who
(according to a popular prophecy) was destined to save France" ("Joan"). This time, Baudricourt
gave her permission to go to the Prince. However, to get to Chinon, where the Prince lived, she
would have to cross through enemy territory. She cut her hair and dressed as a man before making
the eleven–day journey (Vale and Lanhers). Once there, "Joan promised Charles she

Joan Of Arc : The Life Of Joan Of Arc
History abounds with a plethora of people and events that have shaped the course of the world.
Traditionally, these people have been adult males. Occasionally, however, these historical icons are
females and during rare moments are children. One of these unfathomably cases is the young french
women named Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc, the legendary saint that was burned at the stake, was a
young farm girl who joined the Hundred Year War and died as a hero for her believes.
The young war maiden was born in the small French village of Domrémy around January 6, 1412,
but no one truly knows what day that Jacques and Isabelle d'Arc brought their daughter into this
world. There was no true wall protecting Domrémy so they had to have a doyen was the one who
held the key to the nearby castle to be able to hide in case of an attack which was Joan's father. The
title of doyen also gave her father the power to collect taxes and to settle local disputes (Kudlinski
10–11). Even from such a young age as six Joan was participating in holy rights like communion,
fasting, and mass. Out of all the holy stories she knew her favorite was the stories about two saints
Saint Catherine and Saint Margaret (14). "One day, when she was about thirteen, Joan sat in her
father's garden...A sudden flash of light seared her eyes... Somewhere out in the darkness, she heard
a powerful male voice 'Joan,' it called" (25–26). This was the first time that this had happened and it
wasn't going to be the last time ether. Overtime she had got better at picking out this voice and
finally one morning when she was daydreaming she had looked up and had saw the archangel
Michael standing right beside her. Then after some time she was visited by the two saints she has
always looked up to Saint Catherine and Saint Margaret. She took this as a calling to go and have
the young dauphin Charles VII crowned (27–28). Before she could start this journey to have Charles
crowned she ran into one small problem at the age of fourteen and that was that her parents had got
her engaged. When she found out about this she was worried because the voices said nothing about
getting married. She was able to persuade them to call of the engagement and if anyone had asked

Joan arrived at the Castle of Chinon on March 6 and two days later she saw Charles VII
(www.knight.org). Joan tells the Dauphin, Charles VII, that she was sent by God to help France and
to take the dauphin to Reims to be crowned king (www.la–pucelle.de). She also says to him, "I am
Joan the Maid. Give me soldiers and I will raise the siege of Orleans" (www.mcs.drexel.edu). He
ordered that Joan be examined by the doctors at the University of Poitiers. It was suspected that she
was possessed by the devil. She was taken to Tours after her examination to have armor made for
her. She was given a banner of fleur–de–lis, French coat of arms, and an army was formed for her in
Blois (www.la–pucelle.de). She was also given the rank of Captain of the army (www.netsrq.com).
She took the army that she was provided with and marched towards Orleans (www.la–pucelle.de).
With over three thousand soldiers and some Dauphin's best men, Joan of Arc led the siege of
Orleans (www.mcs.drexel.edu). The march to the city began on April 29th of 1429 (www.la–

By the time Joan was thirteen she
first began to hear voices. This was just after the time the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Joan of Arc
Jeanne d'Arc, or La Pucelle, the Maid of Orleans became a national heroine and patron saint of
France in the fifteenth century. She was born to Isabelle de Vouthon and Jacques Darc, small peasant
farmers in the town of Domremy, near Champagne. She was the youngest of five children, and grew
up learning to attend in the fields and housekeeping duties. She was quite skilled in sewing and
spinning. Although illiterate, Joan was taught about religion and was known to be a pious child who
spent a lot of time in prayer and petition, often kneeling in the church in quiet humility. People in
her community thought of Joan as exceptionally advanced and mature for her age and had the
reputation of being a tender hearted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once Joan had convinced the captain of the dauphin's forces, she went on to an examination of a
board of theologians at Poitiers. The examination was of the most searching and formal. She passed
their examination and was then given troops to command and given her own rank of Captain. She
went on to the battle of Orleans in 1429, and led her troops to defeat the English. She continued in
the fighting and led through other locations along the Loire. Her reputation became one of a
formidable leadership, and by the time she reached Lord Talbot's army at Patay, most of the English
troops and the Commander Sir John Fastolfe had fled the battlefield. This cowardice was punished
later, and the Commander was stripped of his Order of the Garter. The battle was lost by the English,
and Lord Talbot was captured along with a hundred English noblemen and lost nearly 2000 of his
soldiers.
That summer, when Charles VII was crowned king of France , Joan was given a place of honor next
to the king... She was later ennobled for her services to the country.
In 1430 she was captured by the Burgundians while in battle defending Compiegne near Paris. She

The Life Of Joan Of Arc
"Since God had commanded it, it was necessary that I do it. Since God commanded it, even if I had
a hundred fathers and mothers, even if I had been a King's daughter, I would have gone
nevertheless." (Joan of Arc) Joan of Arc once said after she had gotten the call to follow God. Joan
of Arc was and still is an inspiration to everyone. By her early life she is recodnized, end of life, and
by how she influences the world today. Joan of Arc was a great leader and woman. Jeanne d'Arc, or
Joan of Arc in English, was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France while they were at war with England.
Of a poor farmer named Jacques d'Arc she was the daughter and her mother Isabelle or Romée. Her
mother taught her how to work at home and on the farm. About God and the Catholic Church she
only ever learned. When she hit the age of thirteen, she started hearing voices and having visions. In
a few of her visions were Saint Michael and Saint Catherine. To help fight for France against the
English she believed that they were all telling her. At sixteen years of age, she was forced into a
marriage by her father after taking a vow of chastity, so she went to the court and they said that she
would not be compelled to marry. Joan of Arc was an extremely stubborn and strong willed woman
from an early age who would do what she thought was right and what needed to be done. (Joan of
Arc) In the late spring of 1428 Joan of Arc went off to fight in the war. "The virgin who was

Joan of Arc has been taken by the Burgundians and taken to the castle of Bouvreuil. It is confirmed
that she is being pronounced a death sentence. On the morning of May 30th, she is to be burned at
the stake at the old marketplace of Rouen. They have charged her with many things, including
witchcraft and dressing like a man. So far, no one has attempted to save her from them, not even
King Charles. He is predicting that they want to take the King and Joan out of power. Therefore, he
is fearful to make an attempt to help Joan.
This all started in 1412 when Joan of Arc was born. She claimed to hear the voice of God at the age
of 13. She had one mission from this voice, to save France by getting rid of the enemies and making

Joan of Arc Saints are always different from everyday people, thus no one understands them in their
lives, only a lot of years after their death. Joan of Arc was a saint like this as well, she was too far
ahead of her times and was killed by her fellow men, because they didn't know what else to do. She
was canonized in 1920, after 489 years of her death. In my opinion, she was not only a saint, but
meant to be an angel and showed a good example to all of us, how to behave ourselves in the name
of honour, honesty, and glory. Joan was a very simple, faithful country girl. Until a day God called
upon her, to fight in his name against the invading English. At that moment, Joan was chosen a
messenger of God. Joan's first encounter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She convinced Charles, his advisors, soldiers and comrades that if she were allowed to lead the
French army and regain control of Orleans quickly, nothing would stop them from going all the way
to take back Paris. French victory would come swiftly she said, empowered by God, but dependent
upon her army's faith. Jeanne d'Arc believed that the English invasion of France must come to an
end, in order for peace to return. Although she has been criticized for not attempting passive
resistance, in letters sent to English leaders, she offered them opportunity to go back to their own
country, immediately or face imminent destruction by her army. The plan she carried out was
effective. Her voices constantly reminded her that she was the only human being capable of
fulfilling this particular assignment, and that it had come directly to her, from God. She could not
say "no." As she heard voices, she always knew she was right. She got instructions directly from
God, that's why she could be so convincing, that everybody gave in to her. While she attributed all
her successes to God there is no doubt that her own qualities were a substantial part of her
successes. Her words and personal presence had the effect of spiritually and physically electrifying
others, charging them with renewed faith and limitless energy. When she appeard, it was hightime to

Joan Of Arc: A Tragic Hero
"One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to
live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying (Brainy Quotes)." Joan of Arc is
considered one of the wisest women that has ever lived. She discerned that a life without inspiration
and personal beliefs was not a life at all. Even though her lifetime was abbreviated, she
accomplished incredible achievements before she died. Joan of Arc's strength and courage to
encounter challenging circumstances came from her faith in God. Joan of Arc was a courageous,
young peasant girl, who changed the course of the Hundred Years War and of history.

Joan of Arc In the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City the painting "Joan of Arc" by
Jules Bastien–Lepage hangs in the B. Gerald Cantor Sculpture Gallery. This Piece is rather large and
was done with oil paint on canvas, its dimensions being approximately eight feet tall with a width of

St. Michael is positioned perfectly upright with a majestic look as he is holding a sword away from
his body horizontally with both hands. His body is covered with a golden body suit of armor except
for his head, which is turned toward Joan and has a full halo behind it. Margaret and Catherine are
both wearing white silky and flowing veils on their heads. There are white flowers in their hair, and
both have golden circles over their heads as halos. Their dresses are also flowing and painted with
light pink and blue. Margaret is positioned upright, her hands clasped by her chest, and her head to
the side looking towards Joan, while Catherine is bent over with her head facing down and both
hands over her face.
Bastien–Lepage showed his ability for capturing the naturalistic look of Joan, but he did not use this
ability to its full extent with the saints. The colors used on the saints are not quite as vivid as with
Joan. Michael's golden body armor and silver sword are not really shining at all, and all three halos
seem to be placed there without any real signs of glowing. The shadowing and detail work in their
clothing and skin are also not quite as life like as Joan. All together the three images of these saints
appear to be somewhat hazy.
The rest of the painting is a landscape of Joan's garden with the back wall of her house in the
distance, and in front of the saints is a stool

Joan of Arc Biography
Joan d'Arc was one of the most popular Renaissance warriors and is famously known for her battle
at Orleans, which she won, at only 18 years of age. When she rose to fame, Joan was often called
the "Maid of Lorraine," showing that she was the peasant girl from Lorraine.
Born in 1412, Jeanne d'Arc, more commonly known as Joan of Arc, was raised in the small village
of Domrémy, located in Lorraine, France. Her parents, Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle Romée, were
mere peasants that also helped raise her 4 siblings, Jean d'Arc, Pierre d'Arc, Catherine d'Arc, and
Jacquemin d'Arc. As a child, Joan often had to deal with wars, financial struggles, a corrupt
government, and the slaying of innocent people, often for no reason. This was because of the
simultaneous deaths of the kings of France, King Henry V, and England, King Charles VI. With
them dead, the only heirs to the throne were Charles, who may not have been Charles VI's biological
son, and Henry, who was Catherine (Charles VI's daughter) and Henry V's son. There was a dispute
between the two countries as to who would rule the other, as Henry was only an infant and Charles
might not have really been an heir. As a result, the Hundred Years' War was fought between the two
countries. As Henry grew older, the war raged on. He was eventually crowned king, but didn't use
any of his power to try to win the Hundred Years' War; this gives Henry the title of a Dauphin,
someone who has the power to rule but hasn't taken the initiative; like

The Life Of Joan Of Arc
Joan of Arc was born sometime during 1412 in Domremy, France to a poor tenant farmer and a
highly religious mother. At the time that she was born, France and England had been fighting for
seventy–five years, and her region had greatly suffered from the nationalistic war. "From an early
age, Joan displayed a sensitive and religious temperament." Historians comply refer to being
committed to the service of God. Furthermore, from the age of thirteen, she began to have visions.
In these visions, she said she felt a voice telling her to save the French. At her trial six years later,
she said that she felt these visions were as real as seeing a person standing next to her. These visions
were thought to be the voices of Saint Michael, Saint Catherine, and Saint Margaret, all being
important French saints whom Joan had learned about at the church she attended, and through her
mother's teachings. These visions made Joan all the more religiously inclined, and she would
frequent the church confessions. Originally, Joan did not tell others about the visions she had been
experiencing, but in 1428 the voices urged her to seek an audience with the Dauphin Charles de
Ponthieu. This paper will examine the life of Joan of Arc through the Hundred Years War, and
explain how she went from a hero to being executed as a heretic of her time. Before Joan set out for
her mission in 1429, there were many events that led to her taking part in the war. The Hundred

Joan of Arc was a peasant living on a farm. All the locals loved her. She spent her days in fields,

was an aggressive military commander who always opted for offense instead of defense. In thirteen

She was to lead the French in the battle with the English. Joan received her armour and horse from

legacy was left when she got reexamined and was proclaimed innocent. Later the Catholic Church
declared her a saint. Joan of Arc's saint day is May the 30th.

Joan of Arc, 1412– 1432, was a martyr, saint and military leader who led the French against the

Once she saw Michael the Archangel, who told her that she had to lead the French in a battle against

Joan Of Arc : The Life Of Joan Of Arc
Joan of Arc was born in Domremy, France in 1412. Her parents were poor tenant farmers named
Jacques d' Arc and his wife, Isabelle who was also known as Romee. Joan learned piety and
domestic skills from her mother. Joan never ventured far from her home, and would take care of the
animals. She also became skilled as a seamstress. In the year 1415, King Henry V of England
invaded northern France. After defeating the French forces, England obtained the support of the
Burgundians in France. The 1420 Treaty of Troyes gave the French throne to Henry V as monarch
for King Charles VI. At the death of Charles's, Henry would become king, but in 1422 Henry and
Charles died within a few months of each other. This left Henry's infant son as king of both
kingdoms. The supporters saw this as an opportunity for Charles's son, the future Charles VII, to
return the kingdom to a French monarch. During the time, Joan of Arc started to have mystical
visions that encouraged her to lead a pious life. Over time these visions became more vivid, with the
presence of St. Michael and St. Catherine assigning her as the savior of France and encouraging her
to search for an audience with Charles and ask permission to expel the English and make him the
rightful king. In May of 1428, Joan's visions gave her the instruction for her to go to Vaucouleurs
and contact the garrison commander and a supporter of Charles, Robert de Baudricourt. At first,
Baudricourt refused her request. However after

Joan Of The Arc: The Death Of King Joan Of Arc
Joan of the Arc was born on 1412 In Domrémy–la–Pucelle France Her parents were Isabelle romee
and Jacques who were very poor farmers. Although Joan never received a proper education she was
educated well enough to understand loyalty and devoted skills from her mother. 1415 King Henry V
of England breached northern France. subsequently directing a shattering defeat to the French. The
English gained the reiforcements of the Burgandians, 1420 the treaty of Troyes gave the throne to
Henry V as ruler for the deranged king Charles VI. But sadly both of them died in 1422 which left
Henry's son as king of both domains. It was around this time that Joan began to have visons
ensuring her that she was meant to save france and seek an army with Charles. 1428 In may Joan
had a vision that instructed her to attend to Vaucoulers and talk to Robert De Baudricourt about her
army, robert was like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joan then cut her hair and dressed in men's apparel, for her 11 day expedition across enemy lines to
Chinon, which was where Charle's court was located. When Joan arrived Charles was not sure on
how to react about this girl asking for an "audince" to save France. Joan although luckily was able to
recognize him in a crowd while he was concealed which impressed Charles enough that, Charles
gave Joan armor and a horse that allowed her to go with her army to Orleans. The French militants
took over the English barracades and by winning this battle the French pretty much gained
invnicibilty. Although Charles accepted Joan's quet it seems that he mightve not trusted her
desicions. After the victory In Orleans Charles was crowned king on july 18, 1429. One year later
King Charles ordered Joan to attack the Burgundians. (Which succeded), but she was later thrown
off her horse and taken captive by the Burganians. After a couple of months in captivity The english

Essay on Joan Of Arc
A French saint and a heroine in the Hundred Years' war was Joan of Arc.
This farm girl helped save the French from English command and was often called the Maid Orleans
and the Maid of France. Her inspiration led the French to many victories. Joan Of Arc (In French
Jeanne d'Arc) was born around 1412, in the village of Domremy, France. She was a peasant girl
who, like many girls of that time, could not read or write. Her father, Jacques, was a wealthy tenant
farmer and her mother, Isabelle Romee, taught her how to sow, spin, and cook which she was proud
of. She also spent much of her time praying to and serving God. She lived like most children did at
that time, until when she was about thirteen.

After some time arriving in Chinon, she was escorted to where the
Dauphin was. The Dauphin was among his courtiers and she carefully picked him out, while he was
among his courtiers. She went there.
Jean Benedetti described it:
Joan made her entrance and according to Jean Cartier, Charles VII's official historian, curtsied as
though she had been doing it her whole life.
She was a striking woman who dressed, and in many ways behaved, like a man and yet had
feminine qualities of compassion and tenderness. Everyone who met was impressed the force of her
personality. She had 'charisma'. Moreover she provided a minor wonder by recognizing the king
who was hiding among his courtiers, trying to look inconspicuous, and doubtless succeeding. When
she addressed him he de denied that he was the king, pointing to one of his courtiers with the words,
'You are mistaken, there is the king.' But Joan persisted, calling him 'Gentle Dauphin'. 2
Joan and the Dauphin spent some time together talking together and she told him
4 that God has sent her there to tell him that God has said that he will be anointed and crowned king
in Reims.
The decision was to be postponed for a few months. There was a commission to inspect Joan's
history; to make sure that she was really sent by
God and not the devil. And Joan herself was questioned and

Joan Of Arc Analysis
Joan of Arc is portrayed as a woman who came out of nowhere to help the French win the Hundred
Years' War with the words of God powering her. Joan was even considered a gift from God although
there were priestly men that thought Joan was a fake which later contributed to her devastating death
at the hands of the English. Joan became a powerful woman when the visions led her to the holy
mission of saving France while using her intellect and sharp tongue when the time called for it. The
eccentric tendencies of Joan is what led to her ultimate downfall. Joan accepted the role of saving
France that was believed to be from god that was sent for her to fulfill. The visions had a plan that
was something only Joan could do and that would help the France. Joan had a light bulb moment at
"the siege of Orléans that triggered knowledge of her mission... From that moment Jeanne's spiritual
way was closely related to the politics of her land and time"[1] Joan decided that God spoke to her
through the angels and that if God proclaimed it then it would be done. The trip to the Dauphin of
France, and having to prove to the Dauphin that Joan was not a silly peasant girl by having
successes in battle. The tactical mind of Joan brought many victories that were allowed. The
contribution of the visions that showed Joan the role that would be played is that the tide of the 100–
year war was changing in favor of the French and the changing of gender roles started by Joan. The
role of God is

Significance Of Joan Of Arc
1. Introduction– 500
For more than a hundred years, the Kingdom of England and the House of Valois of France found
themselves locked in war for the French throne. The hundred and sixteen year series of battles took
place from 1337 to 1453, with historians often separating it into three phases: the Edwardian Era
(1337– 1360), the Caroline War (1369– 1389), and the Lancastrian War (1415– 1453). Despite
English success that lasted the majority of the conflict, and was revived by Henry V, the war resulted
a French victory but high casualty losses on both sides. Beyond this, the war was not only limited to
the two belligerents, but also involved Scotland, Spain, and the Low Countries, such as Belgium, the
Netherlands, and Luxembourg (Villalon). The French victory and resurgence are mostly accredited
to the arrival of Joan of Arc and, subsequently, the unity of the French after her execution by the
English. Despite this, the question of the significance of Joan of Arc in the context of ending the

For example, it featured rapid military innovation. Over the course of the war, weapons, the
structure of an army, military tactics, and the very meaning of a war all changed (Curry). In
addition, the war left both England and France with a changed meaning of their setting. France, after
being divided for years, was finally once again united and shared nationalistic sentiment that had
been lacking prior to and during the course of the war (Curry). Meanwhile, the English found
themselves losing almost all of their land outside of their island territory. Thus, this awakened their
need to develop a navy, which would be one of the most notable parts of the British Empire in their
future (Villalon). Therefore, the Hundred Years War has found itself a pivotal place in history and
worthy of study, thus bringing into question the true cause of the end of the

  • 1. Joan Of Arc Significance How significant was Joan of Arc towards French victory In the Loire campaign 1429? Joan of Arc is a prominent figure in European history, however, most of the history surrounding the maid of Orleans "La Pucelle d'Orléans" (Lanhers and Vale, 2016), is generally focused on debunking her claims of being sent by God, and the possible reasons for her hearing voices. This essay will focus less on the legitimacy of her claims of being a prophet of God, and instead will focus on the effect they had, along with her abilities as a commander to achieving victory in the Loire campaign. It will focus on the importance of her first military victory, lifting the siege of Orleans before the start of the Loire campaign, and how its effect on the morale of ... • 6. Joan Of Arc Essay She is the youngest war commander of all time. ("Joan of Arc Speech") She was a woman who did all that it took to save France and did it in just a year. She's an inspiration to people then and now. Despite not being able to read or write, she inspired, accomplished, and led. She was a peasant girl only 13 years old when her life changed, a war heroine just 19 years old when she died, and a Saint to the Catholic Church forever. Who is she? She is Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc's bold leadership skills affected not only the political matters of France, but also the Catholic Church. Joan of Arc accomplished numerous things in such a short lifetime. Most fear those with special gifts and begin to make accusations formulated through jealousy. Joan of Arc was one of those people that had many gifts and foresaw the future through divine intervention. Burned at the stake for being accused and tried as being a witch, she never gave up her pride or lost faith in her God. Joan was born in 1412 and lived in a small village called Domremy, which is located in the Champagne district of northeastern France. She grew up as the daughter of a farmer. Often working on the farm and tending to the animals, Joan lived the life of a peasant woman.1 She did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The English captured Joan outside the gate and later was sold back to the Spanish for ten thousand pounds. The Spanish immediately put her in a jail and charged her with being a witch and a heretic.5 The "voices" that Joan claimed to hear led to her arrest and accusation of being a witch. At the age of thirteen Joan started to hear voices. Accompanied by a blaze of light, Joan could somehow distinguish these voices into Saints through their dialogue.6 Among these saints she recognized St. Michael, St. Margaret, and St. Catherine. 7 One of the first "voices" that Joan heard, told her about a battle just outside Orleans, in Herring. Joan was instructed by the voices to go to the king so that she could lead France to victory over the English and to crown the rightful king, Charles VII. She went to a man named Robert Bandricourt, who commanded a neighboring town, and requested him to take her to the king. When he denied her right to see the king, so she confessed to him what the voices told her. After hearing her prediction of the lost battle, the king agreed to meet with Joan. After their meeting everything was in place to start fighting the English out of France.8 Another one of the voices told Joan to take arms against the British. • 10. Joan Of Arc, By Jeanne D ' Arc Contents Introduction 1 Body 3 Conclusion 7 References 8 Introduction Jeanne d'Arc, better known as Joan of Arc, was born on the 6th of January in Domremy, which is a village in France. At the time France was in conflict with England. This encounter was better known as The Hundred Years' War. The Hundred Years ' War was a series of conflicts which took place from 1337 to 1453 by the House of Plantagenet, rulers of the Kingdom of England, against the House of Valois, rulers of the Kingdom of France, for control of the Kingdom of France. Both of Joan's parents were farmers, she was not taught to read or write, but her god–loving mother instilled in her a deep love for the Catholic Church and its teachings which is what played a role in Joan being known as the heroine of France by playing a very significant role in the Hundred Years' War. She received visions from St Michael and from God regarding the war in which she promised Charles, who was heir to the throne at the time, that she would give him his rightful seat on the throne. At the time there were false accusations that Charles was not supposed to be King, so Henry V was king over both England and France. In 1429 Joan convinced Charles, the Dauphin (heir to the crown) to send her to the battles, saying she had received visions from God telling her to drive out the English. Joan brought an inspiring spirit to the battle that increased the soldiers' morale to take the battle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Leadership Of Joan Of Arc There have been many astonishing military leaders. From Alexander the Great, to Julius Caesar, to Constantine the Great, and to Saladin. However, how many female military leaders do you know? Joan of Arc is one of the most successful female leaders out there. Before she led an army, Joan was just an ordinary peasant living in medieval France. She believed that God had selected her to lead a victory over England. She convinced prince Charles of Valois to allow her to lead a French army to the confined city of Orléan, where it achieved a momentous victory over the English and their French allies, the Burgundians. After the prince was crowned King Charles VII, Joan was seized by Anglo–Burgundian forces. She was then tried for witchcraft along with heresy, and was found guilty. Since she was found guilty, she was burned at the stake in 1431, at the age of 19. In 1920 she was canonized, but had long been considered one of the greatest saints, and an permanent symbol of French unity. Joan of Arc was from the village of Domrémy, in northeastern France. She was the daughter of a tenant farmer, named Jacques d'Arc. In fact, Joan of Arc is the translated English name. Her real name is Jeanne d'Arc. Joan was not taught to read or write, but instead taught to love her Catholic Church and its teachings. During this time, France was at war with England. (which is later known as the Hundred Years' War) When she was 13, Joan began to hear voices. She decided that these voices were sent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Joan Of Arc Argument Joan of Arc was a young woman who came from very humble roots, and eventually overcame these roots through God in order to fight for war torn France. In Donald Spoto's, Joan: The Mysterious Life of the Heretic Who Became a Saint, Joan is portrayed as having many visions from God telling her what to do, and eventually following them which began to prove France wrong about women in battle. After many victorious battles, she was captured, locked up in a cell and held for ransom until Cauchon, who was trying to eliminate the king in power in France and gain the bishop position at Rouen, bought Joan, and charged her for being a heretic. She was found guilty on these charges and burned at the stake, all with unbroken faith. Joan's conviction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These principles can most likely be seen present day through the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching, which many who read about Joan of Arc would argue were nonexistent at this time due to the atrocities that were committed against her–this is wrong. The website for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops states that, "God reveals himself to us as one who is not alone, but rather as one who is relational, one who is Trinity" ("Catholic Social Teaching"). I believe this is where the teachings relate to Joan because throughout her life, God is constantly showing her that she is not alone by guiding her through each battle that she faces. Her story of everlasting faith promotes the teachings and gives true backing to them that would otherwise be nonexistent. I believe that it is very anachronistic to view modern social teachings and try to apply them to medieval times because society and cultural norms were so different. To try to apply these teachings to medieval times would be like giving Joan of Arc an iPhone and telling her to make a call, she would have no idea what those words even meant or the context in which you used them, and the same is for the teachings. The ideas of dignity and respect have changed so much over the years that medieval people would be very surprised at the kinds of rights, and the ideas that religious society has today, especially considering that not everyone today is religious. I believe these ideas would not even have really been introduced to them, especially in such mass amounts of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Joan Of Arc Argument Joan of Arc was a teenage girl who heard visions from God to lead an army. She believed that God's plan for France was to push the English Kingdom out. She approached the king with the statement that she was from God and that was her message that she was bringing God into the war. Joan proved that a woman could lead a battlefield but the end result is unfortunate. Joan had nothing to fear because God was on her side and sent her to do this, lead an army. Joan eventually becomes sentenced as a heretic after failing her one–day given mission to kick the English out of France and take Paris. Because Joan was supposed to be a messenger from God and claimed something was going to happen but didn't, the question is, then what? She is seen as a heretic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The trial was to show that Joan is a heretic and that the messages were not from God. There's a fantastic amount of evidence from the trial because the English wanted it to stand as a historical testimonial to the truth that Joan was indeed a heretic. As the interrogations grew more intense, she was pushed to give greater details and concrete information of the voices and sounds she was hearing as well as images. The more descriptive Joan became the less credible and trustable her word was. Her claims are then rather seen as human fabrications or from the devil. Joan is trying to make truth of it though for she has no clue or theological training. She's telling them what they want to hear without even realizing it because she whole–heartedly believes it. When it came down to the deliberations, "Forty–seven masters gave their opinions; most stated their support for the decisions of the University of Paris, that unless Joan abjured, she should be condemned as a heretic and delivered to secular justice; some also recommended that Joan be warned one last time; some said that the case could be concluded and the sentence pronounced on the same day; some deferred to the judges for subsequent procedure."13 Joan fears for what the verdict could be and recants, "Then in the presence of the above and before a great crowd of clergy and people, she pronounced her recantation and abjuration, according to the text of a certain schedule in French that was read for her, which she pronounced and signed with her hand [...]."14 Her head is then shaved and she is put back into prison because she had accepted that she was a ... However, a well–known warrior in the Hundred Years' War also shares these attributes. What makes her different is that she was a French peasant girl. At the age of 13, Joan of Arc heard voices from God telling her to save France. In the midst of the Hundred Years' War, a conflict between England and France for the French throne, Joan was told to drive the English out of France, and see that Charles VII receive the crown. As a devout Catholic, Joan was going to make sure this happened. Joan's courage and determination let her accomplish her task. Even in her darkest times, she stayed strong and faithful. She inspires people to this day, and left a legacy. Even though she was burned at the stake after being accused of witchcraft, she is remembered as a saint and a hero. Joan of Arc's many achievements in battle and her legacy in French history lived on for her to become a saint centuries later. Joan of Arc started her journey to becoming a saint in 1428, when she felt that heavenly voices spoke to her (Beck 360). The voices informed her that Charles VII was the true king of France, and needed to get the crown. He was called Dauphin, or rightful heir. • 32. Joan Of Arc : The Hero Of Joan Of Arc Anyone can be a hero. No matter who they are, if they have the drive, bravery, and determination to fully fight for their beliefs no matter the cost, they can be a hero. Joan of Arc left her family and home to defend her country. Joan of Arc is a hero because she fought for her country and her people, despite all of the challenges she faced. Joan of Arc grew up in a country at war, which motivated her to fight. France was in the middle of the Hundred Year's War, "an intermittent struggle between England and France in the 14th–15th century over a series of disputes, including the question of the legitimate succession to the French crown" ("Hundred"). This international conflict led to chaos and disagreement inside France, and two disagreeing parties emerged. The Armagnacs believed that Charles VII was the rightful king of France while the Burgundians supported the Duke of Burgundy and his son, John the Fearless ("Hundred"). Joan of Arc was born in the small village of Dorémy around 1412 ("Joan"). She grew up in a very Catholic family, and at the age of 13 she had visions with "the voices of St. Michael, St. Catherine of Alexandria, and St. Margaret of Antioch" (Vale and Lanhers) who told her that it was her divine purpose to free France from England and bring Charles VII to the throne. This inspired her to leave her village and family behind to meet the prince. Joan of Arc led her people to victory and helped turn the tide for the Armagnacs and the success of France, despite the danger she faced. After leaving her village, Joan of Arc travelled to Vaucouleur, a Armagnac stronghold. There, she met with Robert de Baudricourt, the commander of the garrison (Vale and Lanhers). She asked him to allow her to meet the King, but he dismissed her. She soon returned, this time with "a small band of followers who believed her claims to be the virgin who (according to a popular prophecy) was destined to save France" ("Joan"). This time, Baudricourt gave her permission to go to the Prince. However, to get to Chinon, where the Prince lived, she would have to cross through enemy territory. She cut her hair and dressed as a man before making the eleven–day journey (Vale and Lanhers). Once there, "Joan promised Charles she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Joan Of Arc : The Life Of Joan Of Arc History abounds with a plethora of people and events that have shaped the course of the world. Traditionally, these people have been adult males. Occasionally, however, these historical icons are females and during rare moments are children. One of these unfathomably cases is the young french women named Joan of Arc. Joan of Arc, the legendary saint that was burned at the stake, was a young farm girl who joined the Hundred Year War and died as a hero for her believes. The young war maiden was born in the small French village of Domrémy around January 6, 1412, but no one truly knows what day that Jacques and Isabelle d'Arc brought their daughter into this world. There was no true wall protecting Domrémy so they had to have a doyen was the one who held the key to the nearby castle to be able to hide in case of an attack which was Joan's father. The title of doyen also gave her father the power to collect taxes and to settle local disputes (Kudlinski 10–11). Even from such a young age as six Joan was participating in holy rights like communion, fasting, and mass. Out of all the holy stories she knew her favorite was the stories about two saints Saint Catherine and Saint Margaret (14). "One day, when she was about thirteen, Joan sat in her father's garden...A sudden flash of light seared her eyes... Somewhere out in the darkness, she heard a powerful male voice 'Joan,' it called" (25–26). This was the first time that this had happened and it wasn't going to be the last time ether. Overtime she had got better at picking out this voice and finally one morning when she was daydreaming she had looked up and had saw the archangel Michael standing right beside her. Then after some time she was visited by the two saints she has always looked up to Saint Catherine and Saint Margaret. She took this as a calling to go and have the young dauphin Charles VII crowned (27–28). Before she could start this journey to have Charles crowned she ran into one small problem at the age of fourteen and that was that her parents had got her engaged. When she found out about this she was worried because the voices said nothing about getting married. She was able to persuade them to call of the engagement and if anyone had asked her ... • 46. Essay on Joan of Arc Joan of Arc Saints are always different from everyday people, thus no one understands them in their lives, only a lot of years after their death. Joan of Arc was a saint like this as well, she was too far ahead of her times and was killed by her fellow men, because they didn't know what else to do. She was canonized in 1920, after 489 years of her death. In my opinion, she was not only a saint, but meant to be an angel and showed a good example to all of us, how to behave ourselves in the name of honour, honesty, and glory. Joan was a very simple, faithful country girl. Until a day God called upon her, to fight in his name against the invading English. At that moment, Joan was chosen a messenger of God. She convinced Charles, his advisors, soldiers and comrades that if she were allowed to lead the French army and regain control of Orleans quickly, nothing would stop them from going all the way to take back Paris. French victory would come swiftly she said, empowered by God, but dependent upon her army's faith. Jeanne d'Arc believed that the English invasion of France must come to an end, in order for peace to return. Although she has been criticized for not attempting passive resistance, in letters sent to English leaders, she offered them opportunity to go back to their own country, immediately or face imminent destruction by her army. The plan she carried out was effective. Her voices constantly reminded her that she was the only human being capable of fulfilling this particular assignment, and that it had come directly to her, from God. She could not say "no." As she heard voices, she always knew she was right. She got instructions directly from God, that's why she could be so convincing, that everybody gave in to her. While she attributed all her successes to God there is no doubt that her own qualities were a substantial part of her successes. Her words and personal presence had the effect of spiritually and physically electrifying others, charging them with renewed faith and limitless energy. When she appeard, it was hightime to have somebody who breaks the everyday life, as after 80 years of war, fighting became an everyday routine, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This Piece is rather large and was done with oil paint on canvas, its dimensions being approximately eight feet tall with a width of ten feet. When walking toward Bastien–Lapage's painting, it's size and realism grabs one's attention, and then holds it while this scene of Joan of Arc seems to take place right before one's eyes. St. Michael is positioned perfectly upright with a majestic look as he is holding a sword away from his body horizontally with both hands. His body is covered with a golden body suit of armor except for his head, which is turned toward Joan and has a full halo behind it. Margaret and Catherine are both wearing white silky and flowing veils on their heads. There are white flowers in their hair, and both have golden circles over their heads as halos. Their dresses are also flowing and painted with light pink and blue. Margaret is positioned upright, her hands clasped by her chest, and her head to the side looking towards Joan, while Catherine is bent over with her head facing down and both hands over her face. Bastien–Lepage showed his ability for capturing the naturalistic look of Joan, but he did not use this ability to its full extent with the saints. The colors used on the saints are not quite as vivid as with Joan. Michael's golden body armor and silver sword are not really shining at all, and all three halos seem to be placed there without any real signs of glowing. The shadowing and detail work in their clothing and skin are also not quite as life like as Joan. All together the three images of these saints appear to be somewhat hazy. • 56. Joan of Arc Biography Joan d'Arc was one of the most popular Renaissance warriors and is famously known for her battle at Orleans, which she won, at only 18 years of age. When she rose to fame, Joan was often called the "Maid of Lorraine," showing that she was the peasant girl from Lorraine. Born in 1412, Jeanne d'Arc, more commonly known as Joan of Arc, was raised in the small village of Domrémy, located in Lorraine, France. Her parents, Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle Romée, were mere peasants that also helped raise her 4 siblings, Jean d'Arc, Pierre d'Arc, Catherine d'Arc, and Jacquemin d'Arc. As a child, Joan often had to deal with wars, financial struggles, a corrupt government, and the slaying of innocent people, often for no reason. This was because of the simultaneous deaths of the kings of France, King Henry V, and England, King Charles VI. With them dead, the only heirs to the throne were Charles, who may not have been Charles VI's biological son, and Henry, who was Catherine (Charles VI's daughter) and Henry V's son. There was a dispute between the two countries as to who would rule the other, as Henry was only an infant and Charles might not have really been an heir. As a result, the Hundred Years' War was fought between the two countries. As Henry grew older, the war raged on. He was eventually crowned king, but didn't use any of his power to try to win the Hundred Years' War; this gives Henry the title of a Dauphin, someone who has the power to rule but hasn't taken the initiative; like ... "From an early age, Joan displayed a sensitive and religious temperament." Historians comply refer to being committed to the service of God. Furthermore, from the age of thirteen, she began to have visions. In these visions, she said she felt a voice telling her to save the French. These visions were thought to be the voices of Saint Michael, Saint Catherine, and Saint Margaret, all being important French saints whom Joan had learned about at the church she attended, and through her mother's teachings. These visions made Joan all the more religiously inclined, and she would frequent the church confessions. Originally, Joan did not tell others about the visions she had been experiencing, but in 1428 the voices urged her to seek an audience with the Dauphin Charles de Ponthieu. Her parents were poor tenant farmers named Jacques d' Arc and his wife, Isabelle who was also known as Romee. Joan learned piety and domestic skills from her mother. Joan never ventured far from her home, and would take care of the animals. She also became skilled as a seamstress. In the year 1415, King Henry V of England invaded northern France. After defeating the French forces, England obtained the support of the Burgundians in France. The 1420 Treaty of Troyes gave the French throne to Henry V as monarch for King Charles VI. At the death of Charles's, Henry would become king, but in 1422 Henry and Charles died within a few months of each other. This left Henry's infant son as king of both kingdoms. The supporters saw this as an opportunity for Charles's son, the future Charles VII, to return the kingdom to a French monarch. During the time, Joan of Arc started to have mystical visions that encouraged her to lead a pious life. Over time these visions became more vivid, with the presence of St. Michael and St. Catherine assigning her as the savior of France and encouraging her to search for an audience with Charles and ask permission to expel the English and make him the rightful king. In May of 1428, Joan's visions gave her the instruction for her to go to Vaucouleurs and contact the garrison commander and a supporter of Charles, Robert de Baudricourt. She was a striking woman who dressed, and in many ways behaved, like a man and yet had feminine qualities of compassion and tenderness. Everyone who met was impressed the force of her personality. She had 'charisma'. Moreover she provided a minor wonder by recognizing the king who was hiding among his courtiers, trying to look inconspicuous, and doubtless succeeding. When she addressed him he de denied that he was the king, pointing to one of his courtiers with the words, 'You are mistaken, there is the king.' But Joan persisted, calling him 'Gentle Dauphin'. 2 Joan and the Dauphin spent some time together talking together and she told him 4 that God has sent her there to tell him that God has said that he will be anointed and crowned king in Reims. • 76. Joan Of Arc Analysis Joan of Arc is portrayed as a woman who came out of nowhere to help the French win the Hundred Years' War with the words of God powering her. Joan was even considered a gift from God although there were priestly men that thought Joan was a fake which later contributed to her devastating death at the hands of the English. Joan became a powerful woman when the visions led her to the holy mission of saving France while using her intellect and sharp tongue when the time called for it. The eccentric tendencies of Joan is what led to her ultimate downfall. Joan accepted the role of saving France that was believed to be from god that was sent for her to fulfill. The visions had a plan that was something only Joan could do and that would help the France. Joan had a light bulb moment at "the siege of Orléans that triggered knowledge of her mission... • 78. Significance Of Joan Of Arc 1. Introduction– 500 For more than a hundred years, the Kingdom of England and the House of Valois of France found themselves locked in war for the French throne. The hundred and sixteen year series of battles took place from 1337 to 1453, with historians often separating it into three phases: the Edwardian Era (1337– 1360), the Caroline War (1369– 1389), and the Lancastrian War (1415– 1453). Despite English success that lasted the majority of the conflict, and was revived by Henry V, the war resulted a French victory but high casualty losses on both sides. Beyond this, the war was not only limited to the two belligerents, but also involved Scotland, Spain, and the Low Countries, such as Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg (Villalon). The French victory and resurgence are mostly accredited to the arrival of Joan of Arc and, subsequently, the unity of the French after her execution by the English.
