2. Introduction
For the mise en scene, I shall be using a range of props,
from bags to notebooks, However, I shall also be utilising
fashion to suit the aesthetic of my music video. I aspire to
make sure that my music video flows, and looks visually
appealing. In addition, some of my props are also symbolic
which adds to the story line of the music video.
3. The Protagonist
I have decided to use Ellie Wiseman as the protagonist in my music
video. I feel that Ellie really suits the young aesthetic of my music
video. Ellie also has similar aspirations to the story line behind my
music video - she really enjoys travelling, proved by her experience of
inter railing which she is soon making a reality this summer. Ellie is
also an ex-dancer, and has been for many years. In her dancing, she
has performed in front of a variety of people. This proves that Ellie has
experience with being observed whilst performing. Although Ellie does
not have anything to prove her acting ability, I believe that she is
extremely comfortable on camera. My music video does not contain a
lot of acting anyway - so it is not a problem that Ellie is not so strong at
acting! Ellie has decided to do this out of her own free will. This also
proves that Ellie is enjoying the experience.
4. Tone
The tone of the song I have chosen is upbeat and positive. This will ultimately have an effect
on the facial expressions of my protagonist.
I have included a range of close ups so far in my footage of Ellie smiling, or looking intensely
at an item. I have also included shots of Ellie from behind. I feel that this empathises the
upbeat narrative and also keeps the tone positive.
I also have included visual actions such as jumps, running, and just walking. I really want to
empathise the idea that active activity can be a positive thing!
5. Outfits
The outfits that I have recommended Ellie to wear are very innocent and
some may believe 'sweet'. I do not want Ellie to be wearing anything
revealing, as this could distract audiences from the main message that I
am attempting to convey. Also, a lyric in my music video quotes, 'when
she was just a girl'. The use of 'girl' highlights that girly element which I
want Ellie to convey in her dress sense. I would like Ellie to fit as closely
to the story line as possible so my music video is conventional and
professional. One of the locations I shall be filming is at school, meaning
one of the outfits worn would have to include a school dress wear. For
this I have a simple black dress, overlapping a white blouse, which I
believe will look effective. With my storyline, the story I am attempting to
convey is a story about a school girl. This also means that I have to
heighten the idea that Ellie is 'young' and 'innocent', by styling her in this
manner! I feel that I am open to any resources relating to dress code, as
this is affordable with having a job, and definitely beneficial in the long
term. i also believe that Ellie's style of clothing is innocent and sweet,
which is one of the reasons why I chose Ellie to be my protagonist.
6. Mini World
One of the main props I will be featuring is my mini cut out of the world. I
completed a quick, coloured pencil copy of the world which did not take
long, however it was enjoyable. I featured a blog post of this creation, and a
time lapse pop me creating this. This prop is symbolic to the world and how
the world is Ellie's oyster - Its just up to her to explore it. In my music video I
include shots of Ellie picking up the mini world, and Ellie smiling at the
world, acting as a light in her life. I completed this using my prismacolours,
and copying from a sketch of the world online.
7. Rucksack
Another prop I will be featuring quite often in my
music video is a denim rucksack. I feel that this
has no symbolic meaning but compliments the
music video visually. It is also included in action
matches. The rucksack makes Ellie come across
as adventurous as it is quite durable and suitable
for trekking or just having a fun day out. I
purchased this from American Apparel and
gained inspiration to use this as the music video
is about exploring – and I tend to use this
rucksack when travelling on holiday.
One of the main props is the diary. The diary
is where Ellie writes all her dreams and
ambitions. The diary symbolically acts as the
light of her life. She enjoys to write and read it
the she is feeling down which is demonstrated
in numerous scenes. I purchased the diary
from whsmiths, and also use it personally
however I feel that it compliments the music
video well with the delicate flower design on
the front.

8. Locations
Ruislip Lido
Although advised not to, I decided I wanted to film in Ruislip Lido. I felt that it is a near by location, and is
pretty, so I began to question why not. My main locations at Ruislip Lido filming are: the pier at the end of the
lake, the greenery area and the climbing area. The only problem I had when filming outside was the lighting. It
was a bright day, meaning I had to tone down the amplitude. I got a range of shots from this day, including mid
shots, over the shoulder shots, and extreme close ups. The locations were extremely picturesque, and I am
happy with the footage I filmed on this day.
Denham Green
Denham Green is a suitable area to film - it is quite a peaceful and quiet area, meaning no interruptions will
occur. The area is also visually pleasing to the eyes. It includes flowers, fields, and hay stacks. I would really
like to film by the hay stacks however I feel that I wont be able to gain permission, as the land of farming is
private. However, the roads are clear, and I would really love to get some shots of Ellie sloping down the clear
and open roads with the skateboard. I feel that these shots would be really good for the upbeat and jumpy
parts of the film.
Richmond Park
Having visited Richmond Park numerous amount of times, I have come to the realisation that this is the
perfect place to film. The location includes wildlife such as deer, roaming free. I feel that this is a great
opportunity for filming. Although the location is at quite a distance, I feel that the filming opportunity would be
definitely worth it. The location is quiet, and large, with a range of resources to film by such as a lake, plenty of
greenery and pretty hutches. In my plan this location is included and I feel that this is a unique location to film
in because of the distance, and the features of the location.
