ABSTRACT
Two xanthones have been isolated from methanol extract of
Garcinia cylindrocarpa stem wood found in Maluku Islands i.e. 1,3,5-trihidroxy-
4-(3′-metil-2-butenyl)-xanthone (1) and 1,5-dihidroxy-1′,1′,4′-
trimetildihidrofuran(2′,3′,5′:2,3)-4-(3′′-hidroxy-3′′-metilbutenyl)-xanthone (2).
The methodology used in the research included extraction maceration
process, fractionation, purification, and structure determination
using spectroscopy methods (UV, IR, 1H & 13C-NMR, DEPT 135, HMBC,
and HMQC). The first compound had the lowest oxidation level compare with
another xanthones that found in G. cylindrocarpa and it was a precursor of
xanthone formation. The second compound more active antimalarial assay on
Plasmodium falciparum than the first obtained the value IC50 0,12 dan 4,67 µg/mL
respectly for the compounds (1) and (2)..
