1. Evaluation: In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I completely feel that my magazine in fact does look like a real music magazine. Everything about it down to the
aesthetic sides and most importantly the layout of it gives it a really authentic feel that can easily pass and pose
as a real magazine cover with ease.
Subvert or Conform?
I feel that my magazine cover conforms to almost every convention s in the rule book. These conventions being
that all the text I have used is properly aligned there is a bold and noticeable colour scheme that runs
throughout all of my final outcomes and most importantly, the layout is kept fresh and simple. The focal images
is plastered hugely on the front with the masthead running over it. Little things like these conventions seen in
other magazines help formulate an authentic feel and look to my magazine.
I had deeply analysed existing products
within the genre of gospel and some
outside of the genre to get a feel of the
conventions of a secular magazine and that
of a gospel genre based magazine. I feel
that my magazine cover clearly fits into the
genre of gospel from the front cover all the
way to the DPS, reflected through how I
have used my model and the photography.
2. Evaluation: In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
To clearly and simply portray a sense of gospel within my photography I
had simply used the mise en scene of a bible and extremely bright
lighting, whilst dressing my model up in casual urban wear. While taking
my photo’s I decided to take a professional approach and take them
behind a white sheet/background to make it a lot easier to edit and
transfer onto Photoshop without any problems, making the best use of
natural lighting I possibly could before finally editing on Photoshop. I had
taken the layout of the design seriously and made sure everything was
aligned properly and that the spacing of boxes and banners were made
to be quite close together to give off that cluttered magazine look,
leaving me with a realistic looking magazine outcomes.
