The Red Headed Step Child Of Networking
 What their goal is
 Who the people are in the best position to help
    them reach that goal
Linkedin has a user policy to limit the
number of connections a person could
have to 30,000
•Tony Soporano Style
•The Alumnus
•The "Promoter
•Balanced
Dare to invite people that may decline
your invitation.
1. Connections (about 100) with people who
     really know me
2. Connections where we do not know each
others but we have something in common
3. Connections for seeing, being visible and help
     people connecting.
 Networking Attitude
 The Golden Triangle
 The Real Power of Network is in the Second
    Degree
 Quality and Diversity are both important
 Your “Know, Like and Trust” Factor
Sharing of information in a reactive and
proactive way without expecting anything
immediately in return which is what builds trust
and makes you more attractive to others.
Give

Ask Thank
 It is not who you know BUT who THEY know
What do you expect from others?
•Someone is only high quality if they
can help you reach your goals.
•Your goals change over time
•More opportunities

•More value for your network creates goodwill

•Be wary of the similarity principal

•Diversity creates a larger safety net when
circumstances change
•Allthings being equal, people do
business with, and refer business to
people they know, like and trust. - Bob
Berg
•What do people know about you?
•Being helpful with a networking
attitude people will like you.
1. Trust that you are an expert
2. Trust that you will behave in a decent way

Trust can be transferred from one person
to another & having recommendations on
Linkedin will raise your trust factor
1. Lay the Foundation of your Network
2. A Second Layer for your network
3. Invite those that are not on Linkedin
4. Grow your Network Passively
 Make heavy use of the Q & A feature on
    Linkedin and post of forums
 Join a group
 Start a discussion
 Share articles
 Become a group manager
•Upload contacts from Outlook
•Write a semi-personal message

•No need to add their name Linkedin does this
for you
•Add something of value to your message: link
to an article
 Look for current and past colleagues
 Look for a company you are working for or
    have worked for
 Look for classmates
 Look for a school
 Write a personal message to them
 Mention your Linkedin profile in your email
    signature
 Mention your Linkedin profile in your website
    or blog
 You can see the profiles of other members
 You can contact other members directly
 By answering questions in the discussions-
forum you not only gain visability, but you also
have the opportunity to show your expertise.
 By sharing articles in News you also raise your
    visibility
 When responding to a question in the
Discussion you can add the URL of your
    website
•Expert points are awarded to the person by the
person asking a question to the person they
thought gave the best answer.
•Once you have gained some expert points you
will also be listed in the experts directory, which
raises your profile.
 Develop Your Goal
 Connect with People in the Best Position to Help
    You
 The Magic Email
Magic Email

Don‟t use Linkedin as a tool to get introductions, but as a
research database and then ask for an introduction via email,
                    outside of Linkedin
•Take the time to create a heavily-detailed profile. Make sure all the sections of
your profile are keyword-rich, and portray what sort of person you are in detail.
•Use the endorsements feature. People are more likely to connect and interact with
you on LinkedIn if you can prove that others have been satisfied with your work,
product or service.
•Keep your profile up to date.
•Offer advice to your connections – if someone has just started out on LinkedIn,
help them, it will be a valuable foundation for a relationship later on.
•Always supplement your on-line networking efforts with face to face meetings
•Use the questions and answer feature to start conversations, and make sure that
in these conversations, you position yourself as an expert.
•Make sure your profile is public, and has a „vanity URL‟. This will make it easier
for the search engines to index, and social networking sites always rank very
highly in searches.
•instead of using the default URL, customize your public profile‟s URL to be your
actual name.
•Enjoy it! There is no point using LinkedIn if you aren‟t going to enjoy it. It is
always a lot more productive if you enjoy doing something.
