The document discusses the various media technologies used during the research, planning, construction, and evaluation stages of a media project. During research and planning, Google was used for research, Edublogs was used to organize work, and YouTube was used to watch film trailers. For construction, an iPhone camera was used to shoot footage along with an Olloclip lens and case. Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign, and Photoshop were used for editing. During evaluation, PowerPoint, Prezi, and PollDaddy were used to assess the project and gather audience feedback.
3. Research and planning
• Google – this is a search engine that I used a lot
throughout the entire course, especially for the
research of film trailers, posters and magazine
covers. Google is often forgotten about as a form of
technology due to the fact that its so regularly used
throughout the world. Despite this ‘Google’ has been
one of the most helpful pieces of technology used in
the course in aiding me to research conventions and
genres of each final piece.
4. Research and planning
• Edublogs – This is a free website that I used throughout
my research and planning stages whilst creating my
media products. My use of ‘Edublogs’ started during my
foundation portfolio when we created a music magazine.
This has then caused me to become very familiar with
the website and how its operated. ‘Edublogs’ allowed me
to keep my work in a secure and neat area whilst being
able to portray my progress in an easy and logical way. I
was able to access Edublogs at home or on my phone
because it’s a website and not a software which allowed
me to continue my work anywhere as long as I had
internet.
5. Research and planning
• YouTube – this was used so that I could watch a
variety of film trailers and therefore evaluate them
and decide on how I wanted to shoot my own trailer
and what conventions I wanted to use. As well as this
there were many channels which only specially
posted film trailers, this meant I could subscribe to
them and gain easy access.
7. Construction
• Camera – To shoot the footage I was unable to access a
professional camera. For the shooting I used an iPhone 5S,
which meant I was able to shoot with 8 megapixels and at
1080p and 29.97 frames per second. As well as this because I
worked in a pair with another student to produce our final
pieces who also had an iPhone, we were able to use a
technology called ‘Airdrop’ which allows us to send our
footage to each other faster and without losing any quality.
We also used the same camera and the ‘Airdrop’ technology
for our poster and magazine cover images. Due to the fact
that I always carried my phone, it meant I was able to always
have my footage with me so I didn't’t forget it. I didn’t have
any dialog in my trailer so there was no need to have a good
quality microphone.
8. Construction
• Olloclip Original 3-in-1 Lens – This is a lens which
clipped to the corner of my iPhone 5S which gave me
access to take macro, fish-eye and wide angle shots.
Throughout the trailer and our footage we used the
wise angle lense. This meant that we were able to
increase our variety of shot types even more and
therefore cause the trailer to become more
interesting, appealing to the eye and unique. As well
as this it helped to recreate some shots used by
professional filming companies.
9. Construction
• Olloclip quick-flip case – This case allowed us to not
only protect the phone whilst having the case on it,
as the top flipped away from the original position it
was able to press a button on the side which started
the recording, also there were slots for a bottom
attachment which allowed us to use our phone on a
tripod in two different positions. This meant we
could make certain movements of some shots much
smoother and fluent as well as being able to capture
other shots without any movement.
10. Construction
• Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign & Photoshop – All of these programs
were used heavily throughout the construction of the trailer, poster and
magazine cover. Premiere Pro was used to cut, edit and piece together in
terms of shots, sounds and most titles. After effects was used to produce
the glitch effect on the title of the film at the end of the trailer. Photoshop
was mainly used during the editing of the photos used in the magazine
cover and poster. Photoshop enabled me to edit the photos so that I was
able to make them much scarier and more intense. Finally InDesign
allowed me to rectify all of the text and the images so that I could create
what is now on my blog. I could have done this on Photoshop, however I
am much more familiar with InDesign and find it much more useful and
efficient. This is because InDesign was used heavily during the production
of our foundation portfolio. Adobe is the producer of all of these programs
which was very helpful as they linked well together and also enabled me
to stick to a house style as they had the same fonts and colours.
12. Evaluation
• PowerPoint & SlideShare – PowerPoint is a simple
program which allowed me to easily answer the
evaluation questions in a simple and logical way. In the
first question in my evaluation I exported my
PowerPoint as a movie which showed a variety of
technology used which was appealing to the eye due to
animations and transitions. I then uploaded it to
YouTube to get the embed code to post onto my blog
on Edublogs. SlideShare enabled PowerPoint’s to be
put onto the internet, by uploading it to the website
and then using the embed code in a post on my blog.
13. Evaluation
• Prezi – This is an elternative to PowerPoint. It’s
slides and unique style allowed me to answer
the evaluation question in an easy but
effective way. The many different colour
schemes and movements within the program
also allowed me to answer the question in a
slightly more exciting way. I would then
embed this into my blog.
14. Evaluation
• PollDaddy – This website enabled me to create a
survey where I could ask the public about my
product. This product is a part of WordPress which is
the owner of Edublogs. On this website I was able to
embed the survey into my blog so that it became
more accessible. Additionally I could obtain the
information and then use in on my blog, use it as
research into target audiences and help me with my
productions and evaluation.
