Q3 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stages?
1. HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION
AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND
EVALUATION STAGES?
2. • For my initial research and planning I mainly used a
Macbook Pro to all my main bulk of research, it is my
own personal laptop and meant that I could work
mobile and also not just at college. I drew up my
storyboard using an iPad Pro and an ApplePencil, this
was useful to draw the storyboard with because it
meant that I could change it at any point, it also meant
that I could take it out filming with me on the day and
not have to worry about messing around with paper. I
drew the storyboard up on Microsoft OneNote, an app
available for the iPad, OneNote allowed me to share
my storyboard across all different devices and also with
other people, so I was able to also share my storyboard
with Fran and Liam, so they were aware of what the
plan was for the shoot day.
3. • For the actual production I used my iPhone 6S Plus in order to shoot in 4K, I wanted to
shoot in 4K so that I was able to get the clearest and best possible footage that I could then
cut down when it was time to add my effects into the composition. When it came to my
editing I used my Macbook Pro again for my mobile editing, and doing simple bit of editing
such as organising my composition and titling and then for the more intensive editing I
used my main editing PC, which helped render the effects for the laser blasts and some
initial special effects concepts and titling renders. I used many different types of software
when editing my production, I used Premiere Pro CC for my initial composition and titling, I
then used Final Cut Pro X for the main bulk of my special effects editing. I initially used
Premiere Pro for my special effects editing but found it too difficult, so switched over to
Final Cut Pro X due to having ability to use it already and being comfortable with it. I did
use Premiere Pro for an initial special effects concept that I made but later chose not to use
it because I couldn’t complete it due to Premiere being too difficult to use. I also used
iMovie on my iPad Pro and Macbook for working on editing and some titling work when I
was on the move. After I had reached a point where I felt my productions were more or less
complete, I switched over to Premiere Pro CC again on my iMac, in order to help get a
better understanding of the software when adjusting the finer details and correcting
feedback that I had received in order to help myself become better with the software when
dealing with smaller tasks. The iMac allowed me to work with my full 4K files for more
precise editing due to its 5K screen it meant I could display my video footage in a 1:1 ratio
with room for my software paneling on screen also.
4. • When creating my Ancillary One I used my iPhone 6S Plus
once again, its 12MP camera meant that I could get high
quality images and didn’t have to worry about managing
the manual controls over a typical DSLR. I then transferred
this to my Macbook Pro and firstly used Affinity Photo to
get my main layout and concept ideas together, I then
transferred this over to Photoshop CC and that is where I
did the main bulk of my effects editing, I added the colour
tints and special effects such as lighting to the images. For
my Ancillary Two I again used photos shot on my iPhone
and used a similar process to Ancillary One importing the
images into Affinity Photo for my layout and concept ideas
and then for my effects and the main bulk of editing I then
imported it into Photoshop CC.
