Creative Writing Is An Entertaining Activity
Creative writing is a string of lies that tell a story to bring out the dark truths in the world. They are
works created in the mind that break the laws of the universe. With a multitude of forms, the type of
creative writing––a poem, a short story, or maybe a play––decides the beginnings of a story. For
some, creative writing is an entertaining activity, which has no restrictions, and can reveal everyday
problems. Primarily, creative writers have an abundant amount of reasons behind why they choose
to write this type of narration, but the simple and obvious reason is that it is an enjoyable pastime.
All one needs is an idea, an idea that sparks a general interest or one that excites the nerves, tingles
the mind, and cause the heart to palpitate. If one has the passion, writing becomes an enjoyable
session and not work. Additionally, the subject of the work can range from an ancient abandoned
building to a full–blown crime investigation with a scheme that seems too surreal to be possible.
Furthermore, in the development of creative writing pieces, these story concepts can occasionally
take on a life of their own. The conclusion, or end, of the piece, may be a surprise, as writers find
themselves dragged along in the adventures of their characters without realization. What may be
written when facing the dreaded blank pages becomes a daily sphere of anticipation. In fact,
building the labyrinth of words filled with twists and turns that is called, in literary terms, the

My Strengths In The Creative Aspects Of My Writing
My strengths in writing lie more in the creative aspects than in the grammatical aspects. When I am
inspired I think I do fairly well with the creative parts of writing but I allow the rules to fall by the
wayside. I strive to do better with my grammar because I know it is essential in order for my writing
to be best understood but I still struggle. I have also struggled with dyslexia and the problems which
come with that.
The rules of grammar can be frustrating to me, especially when there seem to be more exceptions to
the rules than times when they apply. Some rules make more sense than others and seem obvious,
while others are easy to forget once you get started writing something. Fortunately, grammar is
something plenty of people struggle with and can be improved on.
The most difficult thing for me to overcome in past English courses has been my dyslexia. When I
was younger it took me a long time to learn to read, it was very frustrating and upsetting. Over time,
I worked hard and managed to keep up with my peers. However, I thought my struggles were an
indication of a lack of smarts, and out of embarrassment I took great pains to conceal my troubles
for most of my life. I wasn't officially diagnosed with dyslexia until last year. ... Show more content

When writing for myself, without worrying about judgment or a poorer grade for every mistake, I
always loved writing. Without any pressure, when writing something that no one else was ever
going to see, writing poetry has always been something I did for fun, despite having some struggles.
Poetry is also easier for me to write, because it's shorter and less complicated than writing a story
might be. I also enjoy reading on my own, when I can take my time; I find that the story often
outweighs the time and struggle necessary to read

Personal Reflection : The Strengths Of Writing And...
As a person that has struggled with dyslexia my entire life, I was filled with extreme dread when I
found I would have to write a wide range of papers for English 1140. Luckily, after the first few
weeks of class, I felt encouraged because I realized the class was a supportive learning environment
with the professor and classmates helping to build my creative writing and critical thinking skills,
such as, the use of counterarguments, evaluating sources, writing for different audiences or subjects,
creating flow with good transitions and adding interesting words. Throughout life, I have felt
comfortable talking and explaining my views; however, supporting those same thoughts with the
written word has always been a weakness of mine. As I sit here analyzing my work over the last
semester, I realize I have gained many strengths but still have to work on a few weaknesses.
One strength in writing, that I now have a much a better understanding of, is using dialogue and
creating a story. I have never written a piece with people speaking; instead, my writing was often
very simplistic descriptions of events almost like an elementary school aged analysis. In my first
paper, you suggested I "create dialogue exchanges. Let us hear people speak and use that space to
add stage cues so we better see what's going on around the dialogue." This recommendation pushed
me to focus on writing heartfelt exchanges as well as concentrating on adding words which vividly
provide a backdrop for the action. Your feedback, allowed me to make small but dramatic changes
and intimately focus the essay by using words to help the audience hear, see, and feel throughout the
narrative. In my second paper, I began with simple descriptions of what was actually shown in the
advertisements and with your guidance I learned to add words, bringing intensity to my work
making it come alive, as if describing the ad to someone that had lost their sight.
I am constantly working to enhance my writing abilities and I will continue to concentrate on
improving my weaknesses. In the first paper, you mentioned I had many short sentences and after
editing, I was able to construct paragraphs that pulled the reader in and helped them become
engaged in the story.

Personal Narrative: My BFA In Creative Writing
As a creative writer, I stand apart from the rest. When I was a child, I never found reading fun or an
activity I would do on purpose. The thought of reading different combinations of phonetic symbols
for hours on end didn't sound like an ideal Saturday afternoon. I found excitement in creating stories
and breathing life into characters, but not through the writing medium. As a child, like most writers,
I wrote books. Except, I had an emphasis on the art quality rather than how words can manipulate a
reader into feeling a specific sensation. When I reached middle school, I experienced a shift in my
creative ideals. The words, along with the image, can be used to inflict a particular emotion. From
now on, I prioritize the illustrations alongside the written word. Through my BFA in Creative
Writing, I wish to learn how to manipulate words, with the combination of pictures, to express
myself. By expressing myself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Short in nature, these pieces are purely experimental. For "Fudge Brownie," I wanted to implement
comedic tension; in addition to, omniscient first person limited. My next piece, "Optimistic," I
wanted to take a less comedic approach when using tension. Similar to my poem, "Brief Moment,"
this short story details a young girl being stood up. For this work, I tried using mood shifts and
rising tension. My last two fiction pieces, "Shape Shifting Dog Man" and "What are you?" are
writing exercises that work together in chronological order, respectively. With these pieces, I
continued to practice mood shifts and the rise and fall of tension. These last two pieces exist in the
same universe as "Void." While "Void" can stand alone, "Shape Shifting Dog Man" and "What are
you" are pieces that are together. While the last installment of these two stories is unfinished, I
believe they can still stand on their own. Despite its incompleteness, I believe these two pieces best
reflect who I am as writer and

Creative Writing On The Sidewalk
Strolling across a quiet park I find myself stumbling and spilling across the bricks that form the
sidewalk. My toe stubbed and throbbing I sit down at the nearest park bench and look across the
green grass, shaded branches of a nearby cedar, or is it a cypress? My gaze returns to the source of
my discomfort. The sidewalk, roughly dollar–bill sized bricks fill an excavated hole so that people
won't trip, such bitter irony. Some of the bricks are split and others are gone, dirt filled most of the
gaps, but left a small area to stumble. Despite the minor pain I'm in I am smiling, the sidewalk is
so...FAMILIAR. Not like I have been over it before, though it was true, which adds to my surprise
that I had fallen. I mean that I felt, metaphorically, that I was the sidewalk. I do not intend to make it
sound like I am walked on, nor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where there is nothing something moves in, bricks partly filling these holes. Rising I continue,
though slower from my limp and interest in the walk, an intersection comes up on my right. People I
have known have come and gone, for but a moment I stop, looking down this path, I could follow,
but then I would be as a sheep in the herd, seen but unnoticed, continuing on the grass slowly
engulfs, surrounds and protects me in my set direction. The tree near me now is chittering from the
squirrels, birds, and small insects. Near enough to be noticed birds fly away as squirrels tear up the
tree branches and set smaller limbs off balance, the effect is amusing, calming and mildly
embarrassing; to cause such mayhem with such little effort. Thinking way back before my teens, or
even my tens, as a small child things would have such an effect. Stories and memories swell, filling
my head and drowning out the noise, the scenery, and all else but the path. What was a smile has
escalated to a grin, full face contorted and expressing deep

Distractions Of Creative Writing
Creative writing papers are a struggle for everyone. The distractions from others, surroundings, or
even oneself can affect how creative your paper is. Mary Oliver the writer of "Of Power and Time"
has proven to people the true distractions from writing. The distractions pop up from thoughts, other
people, or surroundings. The thoughts that pop up happen to everyone not even just when writing a
paper. Different thoughts pop up all the time and it seems almost impossible to keep a clear mind.
Distractions from other people is also a big thing that happens when someone is trying to write.
Trying to zone all the surrounding people in the room is a very hard task to handle. Commotion is a
key to distraction. Different surroundings can also be a distraction. Distractions come from all
surroundings. It does not matter these will affect one's mind and distract a person. Oliver has used
her knowledge, persuasion, and emotion to tell students what to look out for when trying to write a
paper. Mary Oliver uses the state of convincing in her paper to convince people that her ways of
commitment and solitude is the way to write a paper. Oliver states that in order to create a paper that
is convincing one need to be committed and need to have time to themselves to write the paper.
Oliver states that when one is writing a paper they need to be somewhere where they are alone with
no distractions. They need to have complete silence but also need an open mind when writing. She
states that

Creative Writing Is Not A Stranger
Creative writing is not a stranger to the classroom. It's more like a third cousin you see at family
reunions. Unfortunately, creative writing is not seen as a beneficial skill students need to learn.
Instead, it is used for elective classes or to fulfill a small section of a language arts standard.
Creative writing provides more than entertainment, it provides "skills, which [students] have
acquired in their pursuit of a fictional character, will serve them equally well in their pursuit of
subjects for expository, persuasive, and analytic essays" (Anderson, 47). This genre of writing
requires creativity, curiosity, and technical skills. Creative writing is detrimental to the progression
of students' writing ability. Teaching creative writing is not as simple as letting students explore their
imaginations, Peterson (2014) and Crumey (2012) both suggest prior knowledge plays a significant
role in the creative writing process. It has been widely said a writer should, "write what they know."
This sentiment is often shared as a nugget of wisdom to aspiring writers or those struggling from
writer's block. Peterson (2014) says, "young writers should 'be passionate about what [they] do.
Passion drives the best storytelling" (500). Crumey's (2012) argument is that to become a better
writer, you need to be well read and you need to write. He emphasizes this with a quote by Stephen
King: "You've got to read a lot and write a lot" (114). Crumey (2012) explains the difference

Technical Writing And Creative Writing
Many people are unaware that there are many different types of writing. Writing is used in a wide
variety of different subjects. Some people think that left part of the brain is used for technical
writing and the right side is used for creative writing (Patel). Technical writing is used in the fields
of science, engineering, technology and the health sciences (Nordquist). Creative writing is used in
novels, poems, epics, short stories, screenplays, songs, television scripts, etc. (YourDictionary).
Although they have some minor similarities, the differences between Technical writing and Creative
writing are clear.
Technical Writing Background Technical writing is used in the professional world and is always
non–fiction. It helps to provide clear communication so that the contents are completely understood.
Technical writing helps to put your ideas out on the table so that they may be considered. The only
way that you can get patents is by providing exactly what your invention does, so you must be able
to communicate clearly so you can receive a patent. The Society for Technical Communication
(STC) offers this definition of technical writing: "the process of gathering information from experts
and presenting it to an audience in a clear, easily understandable form." (Nordquist). "The biggest
difference between technical communication and the other kinds of writing you have done is that
technical communication has a somewhat different focus on audience and purpose."

"It looks like the killer was standing to the right of the stairs over by the partition in the corner.
That's where we found the second soil sample. More importantly, the area around the partition is
splatter free, so the killer's body must have blocked the blood splatter from spraying the wall behind
him. Probably, he was waiting for her when she walked up the stairs."
"Sounds right," Antonio, added. "That's what we concluded, too."
"Did the killer drive a vehicle to the scene? Were there tire tracks or anything?" Maddie asked.
"There were tire imprints that looked to be fresh. If they were from the killer's vehicle, he parked in
the rear and walked from there. I don't know if you had a chance to walk around the property, but
there's a hidden driveway in the back. We took molds of the imprints, but they aren't ready for us to

Difference Between Content Writing And Creative Writing
Difference between Content Writing and Creative Writing
Most people would think that all writing is the same and there is no difference between content
writing and creative writing.
I am Jaison, doing my final year English literature. Being a literature student, creative writing is my
comfortable space. I did my internship in Opteamize cloud solutions as a Content writer. I struggled
trying to deliver content for articles and blogs. After 5 continuous days of the workshop, I had a
clear conception of what content writing is. Later then I substantiated the differences between
content writing and Creative writing.
At first I would like to give a gist on what is Content writing? and what is Creative writing? What is

Creative Writing: Dementia
As soon as Flug's shirt was off, it was more than obvious Dementia was _already_ itching to sink
her teeth in. Needless to say, she'd never actually seen so much of him before – The scars that
contrasted with the pale skin upon his scrawny frame was hardly a surprise, given the fact that they
_all_ had gained scars at some point (How couldn't they, working for Black Hat?), although it made
curiousity as to what was underneath the paper bag almost unbearable. She leaned forward to place
soft kisses and gentle nibbles across the pallid skin, sharp teeth nipping softly at the collarbones that
stuck out just a bit too much and tongue lapping against his quivering throat. In the process, she
tried to peek underneath the bag, to no avail. To her dismay, she couldn't see anything. "Nope. Hey,

Creative Writing In Avatar
Every writer has a beginning. This is the story of how I started out writing.
It all started when I was 16 when I went to the cinema to view James Cameron's comeback film
Avatar. It was late 2009 when the film had just come out in the middle of December. It was
Cameron's comeback after a 12–year hiatus after the roaring success of Titanic in 1997 which won
him numerous Oscars. Needless to say, I loved it. The film was beautiful. I had never experienced a
film where I would feel for the characters.
Yeah, that is a long time for a filmmaker to be on hiatus. Though, he was able to pull it off. Similar
to when he took a long hiatus between The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
"Good things come to those who wait." – Unknown
Avatar inspired me to begin writing fan fiction and the writing bug just took hold. The bug
continued all throughout my two senior years of high school (that's years 11 and 12 in Australia). I
still write fanfiction from time to time. However, I haven't published anything in ages.
After high school, I went to film school and couldn't quite find where my niche laid. I wasn't an
expert with cameras and I was awful at anything else. When the second trimester rolled around,
relief flooded me when I discovered that one of the classes was screenwriting. It was writing.

Reflection Of Creative Writing
Over the course of the semester, I have had the privilege to read and discuss my classmates' writing.
Having a mix of large and small group discussions have allowed me not only to help others improve
their writing, but to learn about different writing styles and techniques. Throughout the course, I
have worked closely with Cory Robinson, a senior at Sacred Heart University, studying
English/Pre–Law with multiple minors, including Creative Writing. In an interview with Robinson, I
have learned about how he gained an interest in writing, what he enjoys writing, and ultimately how
he writes. Robinson grew up on Long Island, New York. Surprisingly, he did not do very much
writing as child and was never the type to keep a journal. However, he ... Show more content on

He enjoys writing flash fiction because he does not have to commit to a piece of flash as much as he
does to a longer piece. He has contributed several six–word stories to our class discussion board,
pieces he thoroughly enjoys writing. For him, six–word stories are interesting to write because of
their short word limit. Typically, Robinson loves writing with a ton of description and tends to use a
lot of words. However, in a six–word story, every word counts. Therefore, writing this type of flash
challenges him to play around with different words in order to meet the word count. A technique
Robinson uses to write six–word stories is to "write down whatever sounds good." For example,
"Peanut butter stuck between my teeth." When creating this piece, Robinson was suffering from
writer's block. He simply jotted down a few words and liked the way they sounded together. The
piece had no original meaning to him, but his readers are able to give the piece meaning. He uses
this method of writing again when he writes, "Rain drops, Angel's tears, God's piss." Like the first
piece, Robinson did not write this for it to "make sense", but to give his audience the opportunity to
search for a meaning if they choose to, or enjoy the combination of words as is. Additionally,
Robinson draws on inspiration from his life experiences when creating six–word stories. In his piece
from the 6th Week Submissions on Blackboard, Robinson is inspired by a couple of different aspects

My Creative Writing : The Story Of Writing
When you are young, writing is basically a chore that you must do for school or torture. All the
words, thoughts, ideas running around in their heads, never stopping even for a second, or nothing
coming up and having to spend most of the time figuring what you are going to write. The deadline
crushing them and stressing them out, hoping to finish in time. I was like that, the only time I would
write was for school or if there was something that needed me to write. Even then I did not do the
best I could do. That all changed in my second year in middle school.
I spent most of the time that summer and school year reading books and fan fiction. I ended up
watching numerous anime that inspired me to write my own story. I first started with the question,
what is the theme? When I got it, I just let my fingers do the writing. My story was about this female
character who had a secret past that her son did not know, she wanted to keep him safe and so did
not tell him, but his boss figures out what was familiar about his mother. He tells the son about her.
The son is shocked and does not believe him till he was shown proof. The father who was dead and
was kept secret to protect her son came out from the other side to help. The father was then brought
back, but not without a price. They both decide to train their son to succeed and survive a battle that
has been going since the beginning.
I had bought a spiral notebook, one that I dedicated to just that one story. I poured all my soul

The Importance Of Creative Writing
This year, we have been working on building vocabulary, writing cohesive sentences, analyzing
texts in the context of history, identifying literary devices, and organizing a well–constructed
paragraph. Additionally, students have been introduced to both analytical and creative writing.
Reading
Students have read a series of novels that cover a wide variety of subjects and setting, from the
bleak dystopian future on Venus ("All Summer in a Day") and the travels of Lewis and Clark
through American frontier (The Captain's Dog) to Edo–Period in Japan (The Master Puppeteer).
Within their readings, students learned literary elements such as: point of view, foreshadowing,
imagery, and characterization. Students have learned how to interpret nonfiction as well as fiction;
each novel or short story was accompanied by a series of nonfiction articles for historical context
and enrichment. The students participated in Socratic–style discussions of their readings and were
encouraged to reflect on the relevance of their readings within their own lives.
Unit 1: Engaging with Narrative
Students read Ray Bradbury's "All Summer in a Day" and learned to analyze setting, character, and
thematic development.
Unit 2: Point of View
Students learned about the importance of historical and cultural context while reading The Captain's
Dog by Roland Smith. As a class, students read nonfiction articles and connected the knowledge to
the novel. With sufficient background knowledge, they engaged in

And that despair I was expecting, oddly never came. When my dad finally came to bring me home, I
had finished two books and gotten about halfway through another. I surprisingly felt great! "Thanks
for coming to grab me, Dad." I thanked him. "I actually had a lot of fun. I was allowed to just read
the whole time." "Yeah, well don't plan on making this a regular thing, as it is a punishment," He
scolded me. "I am glad you had fun, though."
I realized that sometimes, bad things aren't as bad as they seem at first. In fact, at times they can
actually be fun. So, just like my detention, some things you don't have to be scared of. You just have
to face them head on and try to make them fun. But, still, try not to get a detention, okay? And stay
in school. Oh, and don't ever do drugs, kids. Just don't. (Okay, I just had to put that in there.) Now,
where did I put my shoes...

The Importance Of Writing And Creative Writing
In today's modern world, more and more schools are incorporating electronics in the curriculum, but
these changes are having immeasurable effects on students including the demise of their
handwriting. The art of handwriting has been around since its invention in 4000 BC, and according
to Anne Chemin, Mesopotamia was more than likely the birthplace of handwriting (Chemin). In
recent years, however, handwriting has become more of a chore than a learning utensil to students.
But at what cost? Handwriting is the most beneficial way for everyone to learn and develop their
brains and creative processes. Today we will delve into how handwriting increases brain activity.
Second, we will examine the educational advancements of handwriting. Finally, we will explore
how handwriting improves creative thoughts.
First, let's start with the brain. When people handwrite, the brain is utilized in numerous areas.
Handwriting is a difficult task that requires a great deal of brain activity. According to Edouard
Gentaz, a professor of developmental psychology at the University of Geneva, to handwrite, the
brain must process the feel of the pencil and paper and the correct movement of the writing utensil
to create complex shapes and letters (Chemin). For example, in an article for Science Direct,
Gabriella Munoz cites a 2012 investigation led by Karin James, a psychologist at Indiana State
University, it was concluded that three different parts of your brain are stimulated when writing.

The Importance Of Creative Writing
Creative Writing is an unique class. The class lets students express their feelings, write them, discuss
what's there, and allow a story to flow from them. Creative Writing has allowed students to learn in
a way not focused on point objectives, but on understanding and using the information taught in
important ways. This has really helped emphasize the importance and impact of writing. With this, it
seems possible that having more classes that use this format could improve the impact writing skills
taught in school have on students. One small way to help more students become interested and
impacted is by generating an Advanced c writing class.
To understand why students would benefit with an advanced creative writing class, the issues with
the education system have to be discussed. School is based on a schedule system. People are
compared though age, then sent through classes. This was developed during the industrial
revolution, but this has become dated compared to new methods. R.C. Smith discussed these issues
in his essay "A Critique of Ken Robinson's Presentation". This essay was published to enhance the
points Sir Ken Robinson made in his video, "Changing Education". One of the points addressed in
the video is the effect of this industrial education system on students. In his argument, Robinson
claims that this system was "driven by an economic imperative of the time" (Robinson) and is not
beneficial to students. Diane Tavenner, CEO of Summit Public Schools, explained

My Creative Writing : Vasilisa The Beautiful
Vasilisa the Beautiful is the title story of a collection of Russian fairy tales I received from my first
grade teacher in Aberdeen, Scotland. These stories are vivid and violent, swarming with witches,
girls of enviable complexion, fiery horses, and heroic bumpkins, and most of them lurk even in now
in the recesses of my memory, informing my expectations of the world. Since then, my academic
interests have never strayed far from my creative development as a writer. My goals have been to
read as much as I can, to see as much as I can of the world, both literally and intellectually, and to
write as well as I can.
Kurt Vonnegut once said something to the effect that it's easier to write after one has tried a few
other things first. With that in mind, after college, I worked for six years as the in–house writer at an
unconventional art space. I got the position by leaving a folder of my stories and poems on the desk
of the director, who, by dumb luck, was also an avid reader with unsatisfied literary aspirations.
At this job, I wrote about art and artists, often traveling widely to do so. There were a few times this
work chucked me into scenes straight out of Paul Bowles' stories. I've been arrested at gunpoint for
riding on an Arabs–only bus. I've nearly had my brain wiped clean by several weeks of fever during
a long stay in Mexico City. But I was lucky. I met people like James Harithas, Emily Jacir,
Margarita Cabrera, and Mel Chin; working with them and writing about

I searched–looking left, right, and then back at my clock–repeatedly until I saw the rectangular piece
of a paper held by an unfamiliar face that read "Mina Poppas". I made eye contact with this
unfamiliar person and approached cautiously. The unfamiliar face smiled slightly and asked if I was
in fact, Mina Poppas. I replied with the nod of my head and quickly glanced downward avoiding
further eye contact that would engage in more conversation. Despite my best efforts of minimal
conversation with this unfamiliar face, he began to introduce himself as Mark. Mark mentioned that

During my stay at the four year boarding school, I joined the swim club to realize that Jessica was
also a swimmer–a good one to be honest. Jessica managed to turn the whole swim team against me
and abuse me everyday. Jessica and the team would break my goggles and caps, and purposely
injure me as they swam past but I just kept my head down and swam, in hopes that one day I would
be able to beat Jessica. That day came. It took a year, but it finally came. When I decided enough
was enough, I challenged Jessica to a swim off. I demanded that if I beat Jessica, the whole team,
including her would leave me alone. The team went wild, Mina beat Jessica? Unimaginable. Jessica
was the the fastest girl on the team! "Take your mark, beep" Jessica and I both dove into the water,
we swam at a ferocious speed and I swam as if my life was on the line (it honestly sort of was), as
we came in for the final lap I could see out of my peripheral vision that I was slightly ahead! I
closed my eyes and started to dig deeper with each pull, kick faster, and charge toward the wall. We
both touched the wall at what seemed like the same time but Jessica had beat me. The people
watching weren't surprised that Jessica had won, but they were in fact very surprised of how close I
had been. The girls on the team surprisingly came to congratulate me, as many confessed they could
never demand a swim off against Jessica. They also realized that it had not been right of them to be

Creative Writing: Christopher Paolini's Influence Cycle
Creative writing is a difficult process, often prone to failure. Upon hearing my frequent complaints
regarding the activity, my friends often ask me why I bother with the business at all. There are
several reasons why I write. However, to say that there is any one specific explanation would be
incorrect and would oversimplify the subject.
From an early age, I was gifted with a strong imagination. A daydreamer by nature, I 'played
pretend' industriously throughout my childhood. I wrote my first story when I was eight years old,
or perhaps a little older. The quality was, of course, horrendous: flat plots and flatter characters
reigned tyrant over my writing and my prose was purple in the extreme. Luckily, I was unaware of
this at the time and continued to write voraciously. No great improvement was made until I was in
the fifth grade and even then the plot of my six–page story was a plagiarism of Christopher Paolini's
Inheritance Cycle. Sixth grade saw me retire from writing: the transfer to middle school and a
worsening problem with bullies had sapped me of my motivation. This period did not last long. I
was back in business by the next year and, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many ways, I consider it to be one of the most difficult professions in the world. The primary
difficulty is the dreaded beast known as writer's block. This lack of motivation can spell death for a
literary project. Overcoming this challenge is still something with which I struggle. My schedule is a
hindrance as well. It is rare that I have time to sit down and write anymore. For instance, I don't
participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) because it takes place during the
beginning of the school year, when . Homework must take precedence over what is, at this stage, a
hobby. Furthermore, I must battle every day the fear that I am not talented enough to be published.
Being without confidence in this career is difficult and yet many writers suffer from this same

Reflection Of Creative Writing
It is my belief that through this class and the tools provided, that my growth as a writer has grown
through leaps and bounds I would never have assumed possible. It is not so much the skill I refer to,
although I would think skill has gone up in some levels as well, but more so the appreciation for the
craft of writing itself. Intially, at the start of this class my sole goal was to further my understanding
and appreciation of the writer's and books that I so love to read. Through further evaluation within
the first week, a few other goals came to mind, of which were, making writing a habit, finishing
what I start, stop second guess my writing skills and making effective use of detail and description.
Through the use of the many articles, various reading materials, whether poems or short stories, and
especially through the workshop, I feel I was able to really push myself to accomplishing these
goals. I have thus far learned how important it is not to be skilled at writing per say, but to have the
will to write, that poetry is as much about it's sound as it is about it's subject, just how important
character development is, how the narration and point of view of a story is essential to the way the
story is told, and just how much of a difference peer's critiques can make to your writing.
Since before the beginning of this creative writing course, I have always struggled to find a point to
writing. By this, I mean that I always felt that having great skill and talent was what was required to
be a writer, let alone a great one. From this point, I felt there was no need to continue my writing as
I felt that in a sense it just wasn't good enough. However, reading the article "A Way of Writing", I
found new hope. Here was a writer who says things such as "I must be willing to fail. If I am to keep
on writing, I cannot bother to insist on high standards. I must get into action and not let anything
stop me, or even slow me much"(Stafford) and quotes that writers don't necessarily have any special
talent. The article "Why I Write" instilled further optimism through the authors view on just being a
writer, not focusing on being good or bad. I found her words in which she writes "entirely to find out

My Creative Writing Degree
I will admit that, when I first saw the class "Professional Writing," I thought it would just be
something I would have to get through to achieve my Creative Writing degree. In the beginning of
the course, I still felt that way. My personas back in Week One were somewhat half–hearted and
lacking in detail. Neither persona delved deeply enough into the character, although I could have
done so if I put more effort in. But as this course began, I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about it
and didn't feel an urge to put in all the effort that I could. Instead, I wrote half–hearted personas
about a woman with a nebulous programming job and a mother with very one–dimensional children.
However, as the course went on, I grew to value it more and more. I enjoyed writing the book
review in Week Two, and the interview in Week Three, although not something I plan on doing often
in the future, was an interesting experience. My original thought that the grant and residency
applications would be boring was proven to be entirely wrong, and writing the book proposal

I enrolled in Creative Writing as a challenge to myself to branch outside of my comfort zone of

In addition, I also wrote four full short stories, my favorite being "Demon Driver," as I sincerely
enjoyed creating the small details that littered the flash fiction. One thing I used to hate in high
school literature was how I was constantly asked to reflect on a story and describe the allusions,
irony, and such techniques used in the prose. However, in writing "Demon Driver," I found myself
using such techniques to leave little "Easter eggs" so to speak for myself and my readers, from the
characters names to the specific vocabulary and imagery I used.
Although I ultimately enjoyed writing each assignment, I was most challenged by poetry. I have
never been a fan of poetry. From high school, I developed a negative disposition towards it, as the
aged poems never stood out as something special to me, yet I was always forced to elaborate on
meanings, morals, and techniques found in the few, short lines. Thus, in writing my own poems, I

I used to love to write poetry and short stories, I found it a way to release my emotions and gain
perspective. A small group of my friends would often trade our short stories and poetry to share with
each other and gain feedback on our creative writing. As I got into high school, I continued to enjoy
the creative writing, but not so much the research papers. My first English Composition class in
college left me second guessing everything I had learned about writing and turned me away from
any interest I had left. Creative writing at one time was easy for me, research writing was difficult
for me, I really struggled with grammar, and when you add the negative experience in college you

Creative Writing Symbolism
Symbolism can strengthen a story. A further thinking is created when symbolism is introduced.
Symbolism is not always created by the writer but often by the reader. There are an infinite amount
of connections and symbolisms that can be found in a story. Mysteries, a genre I enjoy, often have
many details and clues that can be found throughout the story to figure out the mystery or crack the
code. When the idea of symbolisms are added it helps the reader focus more carefully on each line
and pick up on smaller details. Sometimes the writer will explain these symbolisms that helped
Sherlock find the killer. Sometimes the meaning of the symbolism is to foreshadow. And sometimes
it is the reader looking further into the story than the writer ever had. I approach writer's block by
either quitting immediately or going with the first thing that comes up in my mind and try to run
with it. The latter usually ends up horribly and I have to rewrite the entire thing and usually just
serves as stalling time. If I give up, I usually give up anything academic for at least half an hour and
try again. Usually during the half hour of down time I have come up with at least one idea the
something I could develop into a story and if it is not, I quit again. This especially happened during
the creative writing story I had to write this year. I never came up with an idea (I mean an idea that I
thought wasn't completely awful) until I had to come up with an idea. Only then do I start writing

Difference Between Creative Writing And Professional Writing
There are two types of writing over a broad spectrum of authors, professors and educators, These two
different types of writing are creative writing and professional writing. Creative writing and
professional writing do have similar qualities such as, the process that you go through revising and
editing the article that you are working on, the amount of time it takes, and the prewriting process,
there are also some differences like, the location that you chose to work in, the price for the supplies,
and the uses for each type of writing. Most people do not realize how different these two forms of
writing are.
Creative writing is an outlet for many people, where professional writing is something that people
are forced to do. Creative writing is certainly a good source letting go of stress, anger, confusion, or
sadness that has been bothering someone for a long time, or that he or she have been keeping to
themselves for a while. Professional writing is something that is forced. The only time that
professional writing used is in businesses or schools when the student has a paper or a project that
has to be completed correctly or he or she will receive a bad grade on their paper.
Creative writing is something that is able to be done anywhere; all that is needed is a pen, paper, and
an idea to write about. Professional writing has to be done on a computer, or a laptop because
businesses and schools want the paper to be formatted and legible, and handwriting is hard to read

Creative Writing Process Analysis
Creative Writing is something that everyone is capable of. And we can all improve our creative
writing – and our enjoyment of it – in a great number of ways.
One of the key factors to writing creatively and freely is confidence.
It doesn't matter how talented you are as a writer, if you lack the confidence to write and to explore
your writing potential you simply won't create as well or as often as you're capable of creating.
So here are 5 powerful tips to help you increase YOUR self–confidence as a creative writer –
1. Believe you're creative. If you didn't believe you were capable of writing creatively at all, you
wouldn't even be trying, so you're off to a great start. Now you can build on this core belief.
One way of doing this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Use your senses. So much of the time we walk round virtually oblivious to the highly sensory world
around us. We may as well stick cotton wool in our ears, a sock in our mouth and bag over our
heads!
It's through our senses we connect with and experience the world. Take some time to go somewhere
new and practice using your senses. Concentrate on each of your senses one at a time, what you're
really seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling.
Do this regularly and you'll have an abundance of rich experiences to draw upon in your writing,
which in turn will increase your confidence to write.
3. Set small achievable goals. If you haven't written for a while – months or even years maybe –
then to set yourself the task of writing a new novel this weekend is ambitious at best. At worst it's
simply setting yourself up for major disappointment and blow to your confidence.
Instead, set smaller achievable steps. For example, "Today I'm going to write 250 words about the
past life of my book's new character Jake."
Start small to build your confidence, then add more challenging tasks for yourself as you go.
4. Write aimlessly. By this I mean don't set out to write a perfect wartime romance, or a wonderful
poem about the cherry trees in your back

The Importance Of Creative Writing
To think outside the box, to learn to tell enthralling stories, and to write with insight. These are some
of the great things that make creative writing become irreplacalbe in my writing life. My writing life
starts out with writing whatever comes out to my head, without being troubled by grammar mistakes
and a lack of sentence variety. In this case, anything that has to do with free writing such as writing
stories and fictions are the things I'm most into in my writing life. But whenever I say I love writing,
what I really mean is that I enjoy seeing the process of turning small ideas into bigger ideas, and
eventually turning it into my own fiction. I'm not a fan of anything that's related to academic
writing, but creative writing is definitely a thing that I would like to do during a Sunday afternoon
break. From historical events to fictional characters, my writing material ranges and varies as my
mood changes. When I first start doing creative writing four years ago, I found that one of the
reasons that it means so much to my writing life is that it allows me to choose what role I am
playing every single day–One day I'll be dear John who is left by his wife during World War II,
another day I'll be Sacagawea who creates legend that no one will ever forget in human history. With
creative writing, I am free to take any role without limitation, and display the plot in my own special
way. One of the roles I enjoy playing the most is Mary Sheedy, a widow from the Gilded Age

Creative Writing Process Essay
Have you ever thought about writing your own story? Or even create your own world and share it
with the world? Creative writing is the process of doing just that. For my MYP project, I created
multiple stories in order to reach my goal of doing just that. Throughout the entire process of this
project, I have researched and gone through many difficulties while working on this project.
Creative writing is something that not only is used to create worlds but can be used to express
emotions as well.
First is the process of my project itself. What inspired me to do this project is my overall love for

The reason why I chose this is that I thought that this particular Global Context tied into creative
writing quite well. I thought this because, with creative writing, you can use it to express your
emotions and your feeling about things that you don't agree with. You could also use creative
writing to express things inside of your culture to the world or share about other cultures around the
world. More Global Contexts that can be used are Identities and Relationships and also Orientation
in Time and Space. These can be applied to creative writing not only because they can be applied to
express things about yourself, but to broaden your thought process and to figure out things about
yourself. For instance, if you started to write about things in the future or in the past, you could grow
out the idea that you can to create more about the topic and create theories about the near future and
past. And as for Identities and Relationships, they could help someone find out who they really are
in personality, sexual orientation, gender, and as well as things they did not know about themselves.
And as for Relationships, creative writing could express the undeveloped feelings for crushes,
romantic desires, broken hearts, ended friendships, and more. But even though that Identities and
Relationships and also Orientation of Time and space, the Inquiry into Personal and Cultural
Expression is my main Global Context in

Realism And Mary Gaitskill's Six Motives For Creative Writing
When interpreting art, there are many questions that can be asked. Who made the art? What was
their inspiration? Is this true art? The list of questions go on and on. But, there is really no wrong
question. It all depends on your perspective and curiosity. Perspective is something that everyone
has; it shows the way that their brain thinks and it also shows opinions. In my perspective, the most
important question is why make art? Unit 1: Why Make Art was a great thing to start off with. The
unit not only gave us knowledge to walk away with, but we learned many of the reasons of why
people do make art. I learned why Realists and Romantics make art, how and why the use of
machines is making art, and Mary Gaitskill's six motives for creative writing.
The Realist and Romantic Era was very different from each other, but at the same time, they
attributed similar characteristics and traits. When we were in class discussing the movie we watched
on realism, I noticed that realists were usually black and white. They painted to show what the real
world was like. The artists objective was not to make you lust for what everyday people already
have. The realists showed true emotions. They showed what it was like to be a working man, stay at
home mom, Realism showed war and so much more. The point of making art was to show reality
and the truth of human nature. The name itself is self–explanatory; Realism. I am a realistic person,
however, I am not strictly black and white biased. The

Creative Writing Is An Entertaining Activity

  • 1. Creative Writing Is An Entertaining Activity Creative writing is a string of lies that tell a story to bring out the dark truths in the world. They are works created in the mind that break the laws of the universe. With a multitude of forms, the type of creative writing––a poem, a short story, or maybe a play––decides the beginnings of a story. For some, creative writing is an entertaining activity, which has no restrictions, and can reveal everyday problems. Primarily, creative writers have an abundant amount of reasons behind why they choose to write this type of narration, but the simple and obvious reason is that it is an enjoyable pastime. All one needs is an idea, an idea that sparks a general interest or one that excites the nerves, tingles the mind, and cause the heart to palpitate. If one has the passion, writing becomes an enjoyable session and not work. Additionally, the subject of the work can range from an ancient abandoned building to a full–blown crime investigation with a scheme that seems too surreal to be possible. Furthermore, in the development of creative writing pieces, these story concepts can occasionally take on a life of their own. The conclusion, or end, of the piece, may be a surprise, as writers find themselves dragged along in the adventures of their characters without realization. What may be written when facing the dreaded blank pages becomes a daily sphere of anticipation. In fact, building the labyrinth of words filled with twists and turns that is called, in literary terms, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. My Strengths In The Creative Aspects Of My Writing My strengths in writing lie more in the creative aspects than in the grammatical aspects. When I am inspired I think I do fairly well with the creative parts of writing but I allow the rules to fall by the wayside. I strive to do better with my grammar because I know it is essential in order for my writing to be best understood but I still struggle. I have also struggled with dyslexia and the problems which come with that. The rules of grammar can be frustrating to me, especially when there seem to be more exceptions to the rules than times when they apply. Some rules make more sense than others and seem obvious, while others are easy to forget once you get started writing something. Fortunately, grammar is something plenty of people struggle with and can be improved on. The most difficult thing for me to overcome in past English courses has been my dyslexia. When I was younger it took me a long time to learn to read, it was very frustrating and upsetting. Over time, I worked hard and managed to keep up with my peers. However, I thought my struggles were an indication of a lack of smarts, and out of embarrassment I took great pains to conceal my troubles for most of my life. I wasn't officially diagnosed with dyslexia until last year. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When writing for myself, without worrying about judgment or a poorer grade for every mistake, I always loved writing. Without any pressure, when writing something that no one else was ever going to see, writing poetry has always been something I did for fun, despite having some struggles. Poetry is also easier for me to write, because it's shorter and less complicated than writing a story might be. I also enjoy reading on my own, when I can take my time; I find that the story often outweighs the time and struggle necessary to read ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personal Reflection : The Strengths Of Writing And... As a person that has struggled with dyslexia my entire life, I was filled with extreme dread when I found I would have to write a wide range of papers for English 1140. Luckily, after the first few weeks of class, I felt encouraged because I realized the class was a supportive learning environment with the professor and classmates helping to build my creative writing and critical thinking skills, such as, the use of counterarguments, evaluating sources, writing for different audiences or subjects, creating flow with good transitions and adding interesting words. Throughout life, I have felt comfortable talking and explaining my views; however, supporting those same thoughts with the written word has always been a weakness of mine. As I sit here analyzing my work over the last semester, I realize I have gained many strengths but still have to work on a few weaknesses. One strength in writing, that I now have a much a better understanding of, is using dialogue and creating a story. I have never written a piece with people speaking; instead, my writing was often very simplistic descriptions of events almost like an elementary school aged analysis. In my first paper, you suggested I "create dialogue exchanges. Let us hear people speak and use that space to add stage cues so we better see what's going on around the dialogue." This recommendation pushed me to focus on writing heartfelt exchanges as well as concentrating on adding words which vividly provide a backdrop for the action. Your feedback, allowed me to make small but dramatic changes and intimately focus the essay by using words to help the audience hear, see, and feel throughout the narrative. In my second paper, I began with simple descriptions of what was actually shown in the advertisements and with your guidance I learned to add words, bringing intensity to my work making it come alive, as if describing the ad to someone that had lost their sight. I am constantly working to enhance my writing abilities and I will continue to concentrate on improving my weaknesses. In the first paper, you mentioned I had many short sentences and after editing, I was able to construct paragraphs that pulled the reader in and helped them become engaged in the story. ... • 7. Personal Narrative: My BFA In Creative Writing As a creative writer, I stand apart from the rest. When I was a child, I never found reading fun or an activity I would do on purpose. The thought of reading different combinations of phonetic symbols for hours on end didn't sound like an ideal Saturday afternoon. I found excitement in creating stories and breathing life into characters, but not through the writing medium. As a child, like most writers, I wrote books. Except, I had an emphasis on the art quality rather than how words can manipulate a reader into feeling a specific sensation. When I reached middle school, I experienced a shift in my creative ideals. The words, along with the image, can be used to inflict a particular emotion. From now on, I prioritize the illustrations alongside the written word. Through my BFA in Creative Writing, I wish to learn how to manipulate words, with the combination of pictures, to express myself. By expressing myself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Short in nature, these pieces are purely experimental. For "Fudge Brownie," I wanted to implement comedic tension; in addition to, omniscient first person limited. My next piece, "Optimistic," I wanted to take a less comedic approach when using tension. Similar to my poem, "Brief Moment," this short story details a young girl being stood up. For this work, I tried using mood shifts and rising tension. My last two fiction pieces, "Shape Shifting Dog Man" and "What are you?" are writing exercises that work together in chronological order, respectively. With these pieces, I continued to practice mood shifts and the rise and fall of tension. These last two pieces exist in the same universe as "Void." While "Void" can stand alone, "Shape Shifting Dog Man" and "What are you" are pieces that are together. While the last installment of these two stories is unfinished, I believe they can still stand on their own. Despite its incompleteness, I believe these two pieces best reflect who I am as writer and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Creative Writing On The Sidewalk Strolling across a quiet park I find myself stumbling and spilling across the bricks that form the sidewalk. My toe stubbed and throbbing I sit down at the nearest park bench and look across the green grass, shaded branches of a nearby cedar, or is it a cypress? My gaze returns to the source of my discomfort. The sidewalk, roughly dollar–bill sized bricks fill an excavated hole so that people won't trip, such bitter irony. Some of the bricks are split and others are gone, dirt filled most of the gaps, but left a small area to stumble. Despite the minor pain I'm in I am smiling, the sidewalk is so...FAMILIAR. Not like I have been over it before, though it was true, which adds to my surprise that I had fallen. I mean that I felt, metaphorically, that I was the sidewalk. I do not intend to make it sound like I am walked on, nor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where there is nothing something moves in, bricks partly filling these holes. Rising I continue, though slower from my limp and interest in the walk, an intersection comes up on my right. People I have known have come and gone, for but a moment I stop, looking down this path, I could follow, but then I would be as a sheep in the herd, seen but unnoticed, continuing on the grass slowly engulfs, surrounds and protects me in my set direction. The tree near me now is chittering from the squirrels, birds, and small insects. Near enough to be noticed birds fly away as squirrels tear up the tree branches and set smaller limbs off balance, the effect is amusing, calming and mildly embarrassing; to cause such mayhem with such little effort. Thinking way back before my teens, or even my tens, as a small child things would have such an effect. Stories and memories swell, filling my head and drowning out the noise, the scenery, and all else but the path. What was a smile has escalated to a grin, full face contorted and expressing deep ... • 13. Distractions Of Creative Writing Creative writing papers are a struggle for everyone. The distractions from others, surroundings, or even oneself can affect how creative your paper is. Mary Oliver the writer of "Of Power and Time" has proven to people the true distractions from writing. The distractions pop up from thoughts, other people, or surroundings. The thoughts that pop up happen to everyone not even just when writing a paper. Different thoughts pop up all the time and it seems almost impossible to keep a clear mind. Distractions from other people is also a big thing that happens when someone is trying to write. Trying to zone all the surrounding people in the room is a very hard task to handle. Commotion is a key to distraction. Different surroundings can also be a distraction. Distractions come from all surroundings. It does not matter these will affect one's mind and distract a person. Oliver has used her knowledge, persuasion, and emotion to tell students what to look out for when trying to write a paper. Mary Oliver uses the state of convincing in her paper to convince people that her ways of commitment and solitude is the way to write a paper. Oliver states that in order to create a paper that is convincing one need to be committed and need to have time to themselves to write the paper. Oliver states that when one is writing a paper they need to be somewhere where they are alone with no distractions. They need to have complete silence but also need an open mind when writing. She states that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Creative Writing Is Not A Stranger Creative writing is not a stranger to the classroom. It's more like a third cousin you see at family reunions. Unfortunately, creative writing is not seen as a beneficial skill students need to learn. Instead, it is used for elective classes or to fulfill a small section of a language arts standard. Creative writing provides more than entertainment, it provides "skills, which [students] have acquired in their pursuit of a fictional character, will serve them equally well in their pursuit of subjects for expository, persuasive, and analytic essays" (Anderson, 47). This genre of writing requires creativity, curiosity, and technical skills. Creative writing is detrimental to the progression of students' writing ability. Teaching creative writing is not as simple as letting students explore their imaginations, Peterson (2014) and Crumey (2012) both suggest prior knowledge plays a significant role in the creative writing process. It has been widely said a writer should, "write what they know." This sentiment is often shared as a nugget of wisdom to aspiring writers or those struggling from writer's block. Peterson (2014) says, "young writers should 'be passionate about what [they] do. Passion drives the best storytelling" (500). Crumey's (2012) argument is that to become a better writer, you need to be well read and you need to write. He emphasizes this with a quote by Stephen King: "You've got to read a lot and write a lot" (114). Crumey (2012) explains the difference between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Technical Writing And Creative Writing Many people are unaware that there are many different types of writing. Writing is used in a wide variety of different subjects. Some people think that left part of the brain is used for technical writing and the right side is used for creative writing (Patel). Technical writing is used in the fields of science, engineering, technology and the health sciences (Nordquist). Creative writing is used in novels, poems, epics, short stories, screenplays, songs, television scripts, etc. (YourDictionary). Although they have some minor similarities, the differences between Technical writing and Creative writing are clear. Technical Writing Background Technical writing is used in the professional world and is always non–fiction. It helps to provide clear communication so that the contents are completely understood. Technical writing helps to put your ideas out on the table so that they may be considered. The only way that you can get patents is by providing exactly what your invention does, so you must be able to communicate clearly so you can receive a patent. The Society for Technical Communication (STC) offers this definition of technical writing: "the process of gathering information from experts and presenting it to an audience in a clear, easily understandable form." (Nordquist). "The biggest difference between technical communication and the other kinds of writing you have done is that technical communication has a somewhat different focus on audience and purpose." ... As you know, we have a formula for everything," she said joking. "We came up with this calculation based on different criteria – the force used to split her skull, the angle of attack, and so on. "It looks like the killer was standing to the right of the stairs over by the partition in the corner. That's where we found the second soil sample. More importantly, the area around the partition is splatter free, so the killer's body must have blocked the blood splatter from spraying the wall behind him. Probably, he was waiting for her when she walked up the stairs." "Sounds right," Antonio, added. "That's what we concluded, too." "Did the killer drive a vehicle to the scene? Were there tire tracks or anything?" Maddie asked. "There were tire imprints that looked to be fresh. If they were from the killer's vehicle, he parked in the rear and walked from there. I don't know if you had a chance to walk around the property, but there's a hidden driveway in the back. We took molds of the imprints, but they aren't ready for us to evaluate yet. Needless to say, she'd never actually seen so much of him before – The scars that contrasted with the pale skin upon his scrawny frame was hardly a surprise, given the fact that they _all_ had gained scars at some point (How couldn't they, working for Black Hat?), although it made curiousity as to what was underneath the paper bag almost unbearable. She leaned forward to place soft kisses and gentle nibbles across the pallid skin, sharp teeth nipping softly at the collarbones that stuck out just a bit too much and tongue lapping against his quivering throat. • 25. Creative Writing In Avatar Every writer has a beginning. This is the story of how I started out writing. It all started when I was 16 when I went to the cinema to view James Cameron's comeback film Avatar. It was late 2009 when the film had just come out in the middle of December. It was Cameron's comeback after a 12–year hiatus after the roaring success of Titanic in 1997 which won him numerous Oscars. Needless to say, I loved it. The film was beautiful. I had never experienced a film where I would feel for the characters. Yeah, that is a long time for a filmmaker to be on hiatus. Though, he was able to pull it off. Similar to when he took a long hiatus between The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. "Good things come to those who wait." – Unknown Avatar inspired me to begin writing fan fiction and the writing bug just took hold. The bug continued all throughout my two senior years of high school (that's years 11 and 12 in Australia). I still write fanfiction from time to time. However, I haven't published anything in ages. After high school, I went to film school and couldn't quite find where my niche laid. I wasn't an expert with cameras and I was awful at anything else. When the second trimester rolled around, relief flooded me when I discovered that one of the classes was screenwriting. It was writing. Something that I was familiar with, even if I had never written in that particular format before. Okay, I might not have chosen the best story to adapt and it was my first time ever ... • 29. Reflection Of Creative Writing Over the course of the semester, I have had the privilege to read and discuss my classmates' writing. Having a mix of large and small group discussions have allowed me not only to help others improve their writing, but to learn about different writing styles and techniques. Throughout the course, I have worked closely with Cory Robinson, a senior at Sacred Heart University, studying English/Pre–Law with multiple minors, including Creative Writing. In an interview with Robinson, I have learned about how he gained an interest in writing, what he enjoys writing, and ultimately how he writes. Robinson grew up on Long Island, New York. Surprisingly, he did not do very much writing as child and was never the type to keep a journal. However, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He enjoys writing flash fiction because he does not have to commit to a piece of flash as much as he does to a longer piece. He has contributed several six–word stories to our class discussion board, pieces he thoroughly enjoys writing. For him, six–word stories are interesting to write because of their short word limit. Typically, Robinson loves writing with a ton of description and tends to use a lot of words. However, in a six–word story, every word counts. Therefore, writing this type of flash challenges him to play around with different words in order to meet the word count. A technique Robinson uses to write six–word stories is to "write down whatever sounds good." For example, "Peanut butter stuck between my teeth." When creating this piece, Robinson was suffering from writer's block. He simply jotted down a few words and liked the way they sounded together. The piece had no original meaning to him, but his readers are able to give the piece meaning. He uses this method of writing again when he writes, "Rain drops, Angel's tears, God's piss." Like the first piece, Robinson did not write this for it to "make sense", but to give his audience the opportunity to search for a meaning if they choose to, or enjoy the combination of words as is. Additionally, Robinson draws on inspiration from his life experiences when creating six–word stories. In his piece from the 6th Week Submissions on Blackboard, Robinson is inspired by a couple of different aspects of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. My Creative Writing : The Story Of Writing When you are young, writing is basically a chore that you must do for school or torture. All the words, thoughts, ideas running around in their heads, never stopping even for a second, or nothing coming up and having to spend most of the time figuring what you are going to write. The deadline crushing them and stressing them out, hoping to finish in time. I was like that, the only time I would write was for school or if there was something that needed me to write. Even then I did not do the best I could do. That all changed in my second year in middle school. I spent most of the time that summer and school year reading books and fan fiction. I ended up watching numerous anime that inspired me to write my own story. I first started with the question, what is the theme? When I got it, I just let my fingers do the writing. My story was about this female character who had a secret past that her son did not know, she wanted to keep him safe and so did not tell him, but his boss figures out what was familiar about his mother. He tells the son about her. The son is shocked and does not believe him till he was shown proof. The father who was dead and was kept secret to protect her son came out from the other side to help. The father was then brought back, but not without a price. They both decide to train their son to succeed and survive a battle that has been going since the beginning. • 39. The Importance Of Creative Writing This year, we have been working on building vocabulary, writing cohesive sentences, analyzing texts in the context of history, identifying literary devices, and organizing a well–constructed paragraph. Additionally, students have been introduced to both analytical and creative writing. Reading Students have read a series of novels that cover a wide variety of subjects and setting, from the bleak dystopian future on Venus ("All Summer in a Day") and the travels of Lewis and Clark through American frontier (The Captain's Dog) to Edo–Period in Japan (The Master Puppeteer). Within their readings, students learned literary elements such as: point of view, foreshadowing, imagery, and characterization. Students have learned how to interpret nonfiction as well as fiction; each novel or short story was accompanied by a series of nonfiction articles for historical context and enrichment. The students participated in Socratic–style discussions of their readings and were encouraged to reflect on the relevance of their readings within their own lives. Unit 1: Engaging with Narrative Students read Ray Bradbury's "All Summer in a Day" and learned to analyze setting, character, and thematic development. Unit 2: Point of View Students learned about the importance of historical and cultural context while reading The Captain's Dog by Roland Smith. As a class, students read nonfiction articles and connected the knowledge to the novel. With sufficient background knowledge, they engaged in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Importance Of Writing And Creative Writing In today's modern world, more and more schools are incorporating electronics in the curriculum, but these changes are having immeasurable effects on students including the demise of their handwriting. The art of handwriting has been around since its invention in 4000 BC, and according to Anne Chemin, Mesopotamia was more than likely the birthplace of handwriting (Chemin). In recent years, however, handwriting has become more of a chore than a learning utensil to students. But at what cost? Handwriting is the most beneficial way for everyone to learn and develop their brains and creative processes. Today we will delve into how handwriting increases brain activity. Second, we will examine the educational advancements of handwriting. Finally, we will explore how handwriting improves creative thoughts. First, let's start with the brain. When people handwrite, the brain is utilized in numerous areas. Handwriting is a difficult task that requires a great deal of brain activity. According to Edouard Gentaz, a professor of developmental psychology at the University of Geneva, to handwrite, the brain must process the feel of the pencil and paper and the correct movement of the writing utensil to create complex shapes and letters (Chemin). For example, in an article for Science Direct, Gabriella Munoz cites a 2012 investigation led by Karin James, a psychologist at Indiana State University, it was concluded that three different parts of your brain are stimulated when writing. • 45. The Importance Of Creative Writing Creative Writing is an unique class. The class lets students express their feelings, write them, discuss what's there, and allow a story to flow from them. Creative Writing has allowed students to learn in a way not focused on point objectives, but on understanding and using the information taught in important ways. This has really helped emphasize the importance and impact of writing. With this, it seems possible that having more classes that use this format could improve the impact writing skills taught in school have on students. One small way to help more students become interested and impacted is by generating an Advanced c writing class. To understand why students would benefit with an advanced creative writing class, the issues with the education system have to be discussed. School is based on a schedule system. People are compared though age, then sent through classes. This was developed during the industrial revolution, but this has become dated compared to new methods. R.C. Smith discussed these issues in his essay "A Critique of Ken Robinson's Presentation". This essay was published to enhance the points Sir Ken Robinson made in his video, "Changing Education". One of the points addressed in the video is the effect of this industrial education system on students. In his argument, Robinson claims that this system was "driven by an economic imperative of the time" (Robinson) and is not beneficial to students. • 47. My Creative Writing : Vasilisa The Beautiful Vasilisa the Beautiful is the title story of a collection of Russian fairy tales I received from my first grade teacher in Aberdeen, Scotland. These stories are vivid and violent, swarming with witches, girls of enviable complexion, fiery horses, and heroic bumpkins, and most of them lurk even in now in the recesses of my memory, informing my expectations of the world. Since then, my academic interests have never strayed far from my creative development as a writer. My goals have been to read as much as I can, to see as much as I can of the world, both literally and intellectually, and to write as well as I can. Kurt Vonnegut once said something to the effect that it's easier to write after one has tried a few other things first. With that in mind, after college, I worked for six years as the in–house writer at an unconventional art space. I got the position by leaving a folder of my stories and poems on the desk of the director, who, by dumb luck, was also an avid reader with unsatisfied literary aspirations. At this job, I wrote about art and artists, often traveling widely to do so. There were a few times this work chucked me into scenes straight out of Paul Bowles' stories. I've been arrested at gunpoint for riding on an Arabs–only bus. I've nearly had my brain wiped clean by several weeks of fever during a long stay in Mexico City. But I was lucky. Upon hearing my frequent complaints regarding the activity, my friends often ask me why I bother with the business at all. There are several reasons why I write. However, to say that there is any one specific explanation would be incorrect and would oversimplify the subject. From an early age, I was gifted with a strong imagination. A daydreamer by nature, I 'played pretend' industriously throughout my childhood. I wrote my first story when I was eight years old, or perhaps a little older. The quality was, of course, horrendous: flat plots and flatter characters reigned tyrant over my writing and my prose was purple in the extreme. Luckily, I was unaware of this at the time and continued to write voraciously. No great improvement was made until I was in the fifth grade and even then the plot of my six–page story was a plagiarism of Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle. Sixth grade saw me retire from writing: the transfer to middle school and a worsening problem with bullies had sapped me of my motivation. This period did not last long. • 53. Reflection Of Creative Writing It is my belief that through this class and the tools provided, that my growth as a writer has grown through leaps and bounds I would never have assumed possible. It is not so much the skill I refer to, although I would think skill has gone up in some levels as well, but more so the appreciation for the craft of writing itself. Intially, at the start of this class my sole goal was to further my understanding and appreciation of the writer's and books that I so love to read. Through further evaluation within the first week, a few other goals came to mind, of which were, making writing a habit, finishing what I start, stop second guess my writing skills and making effective use of detail and description. Through the use of the many articles, various reading materials, whether poems or short stories, and especially through the workshop, I feel I was able to really push myself to accomplishing these goals. I have thus far learned how important it is not to be skilled at writing per say, but to have the will to write, that poetry is as much about it's sound as it is about it's subject, just how important character development is, how the narration and point of view of a story is essential to the way the story is told, and just how much of a difference peer's critiques can make to your writing. Since before the beginning of this creative writing course, I have always struggled to find a point to writing. By this, I mean that I always felt that having great skill and talent was what was required to be a writer, let alone a great one. From this point, I felt there was no need to continue my writing as I felt that in a sense it just wasn't good enough. However, reading the article "A Way of Writing", I found new hope. Here was a writer who says things such as "I must be willing to fail. If I am to keep on writing, I cannot bother to insist on high standards. I must get into action and not let anything stop me, or even slow me much"(Stafford) and quotes that writers don't necessarily have any special talent. The article "Why I Write" instilled further optimism through the authors view on just being a writer, not focusing on being good or bad. My Creative Writing Degree I will admit that, when I first saw the class "Professional Writing," I thought it would just be something I would have to get through to achieve my Creative Writing degree. In the beginning of the course, I still felt that way. My personas back in Week One were somewhat half–hearted and lacking in detail. Neither persona delved deeply enough into the character, although I could have done so if I put more effort in. But as this course began, I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about it and didn't feel an urge to put in all the effort that I could. Instead, I wrote half–hearted personas about a woman with a nebulous programming job and a mother with very one–dimensional children. However, as the course went on, I grew to value it more and more. I enjoyed writing the book review in Week Two, and the interview in Week Three, although not something I plan on doing often in the future, was an interesting experience. One thing I used to hate in high school literature was how I was constantly asked to reflect on a story and describe the allusions, irony, and such techniques used in the prose. However, in writing "Demon Driver," I found myself using such techniques to leave little "Easter eggs" so to speak for myself and my readers, from the characters names to the specific vocabulary and imagery I used. Although I ultimately enjoyed writing each assignment, I was most challenged by poetry. I have never been a fan of poetry. From high school, I developed a negative disposition towards it, as the aged poems never stood out as something special to me, yet I was always forced to elaborate on meanings, morals, and techniques found in the few, short lines. Thus, in writing my own poems, I struggled to overcome my dislike for the art form, and simply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. My Creative Writing I used to love to write poetry and short stories, I found it a way to release my emotions and gain perspective. A small group of my friends would often trade our short stories and poetry to share with each other and gain feedback on our creative writing. As I got into high school, I continued to enjoy the creative writing, but not so much the research papers. My first English Composition class in college left me second guessing everything I had learned about writing and turned me away from any interest I had left. Creative writing at one time was easy for me, research writing was difficult for me, I really struggled with grammar, and when you add the negative experience in college you could say I lost all confidence and my writing. I am going to take you through my early experience in writing, the experience that gave me a voice and pushed me through life's challenges. After that I am going to share that one experience that knocked down my confidence, making me feel like I had lost a voice, or at least the words to portray my knowledge, and life's experience. Finally, I will end with finding that joy again in the creative writing and developing my writing skills through documentation required in my career. As a young teenage girl facing many of life's challenges, I found comfort in writing. I kept journals, wrote poetry, and even short stories just to get my thoughts out of my head and speak my feelings. Dealing with my parents' divorce as well as being bullied by ... • 65. Creative Writing Symbolism Symbolism can strengthen a story. A further thinking is created when symbolism is introduced. Symbolism is not always created by the writer but often by the reader. There are an infinite amount of connections and symbolisms that can be found in a story. Mysteries, a genre I enjoy, often have many details and clues that can be found throughout the story to figure out the mystery or crack the code. When the idea of symbolisms are added it helps the reader focus more carefully on each line and pick up on smaller details. Sometimes the writer will explain these symbolisms that helped Sherlock find the killer. Sometimes the meaning of the symbolism is to foreshadow. And sometimes it is the reader looking further into the story than the writer ever had. I approach writer's block by either quitting immediately or going with the first thing that comes up in my mind and try to run with it. The latter usually ends up horribly and I have to rewrite the entire thing and usually just serves as stalling time. If I give up, I usually give up anything academic for at least half an hour and try again. Usually during the half hour of down time I have come up with at least one idea the something I could develop into a story and if it is not, I quit again. This especially happened during the creative writing story I had to write this year. I never came up with an idea (I mean an idea that I thought wasn't completely awful) until I had to come up with an idea. Only then do I start writing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Difference Between Creative Writing And Professional Writing There are two types of writing over a broad spectrum of authors, professors and educators, These two different types of writing are creative writing and professional writing. Creative writing and professional writing do have similar qualities such as, the process that you go through revising and editing the article that you are working on, the amount of time it takes, and the prewriting process, there are also some differences like, the location that you chose to work in, the price for the supplies, and the uses for each type of writing. Most people do not realize how different these two forms of writing are. Creative writing is an outlet for many people, where professional writing is something that people are forced to do. Creative writing is certainly a good source letting go of stress, anger, confusion, or sadness that has been bothering someone for a long time, or that he or she have been keeping to themselves for a while. Professional writing is something that is forced. The only time that professional writing used is in businesses or schools when the student has a paper or a project that has to be completed correctly or he or she will receive a bad grade on their paper. Creative writing is something that is able to be done anywhere; all that is needed is a pen, paper, and an idea to write about. Professional writing has to be done on a computer, or a laptop because businesses and schools want the paper to be formatted and legible, and handwriting is hard to read ... From what, is something they never spoke of. the only things I knew about myself was that I was tall and fit, with long dark brown hair. I had bright blue eyes and a small tattoo on my right shoulder blade, how it got there I have no idea. There wasn't much that I could remember other than those small and obvious details. Ever since I woke, this is how my life's been and I wasn't sure if this was what I wanted, everything just felt wrong. The morning I woke from what they call acoma, was odd. After hours and hours put into trying to figure out some actions that could better the people, I realized I could catch on to this. Yet in my mind figuring out who I was was on the top of my priorities, as selfish as that sounds. "Your Majesty, they are ready for you in the throne room." Alice, one of the maids told me as she bowed on leaving in a hurry. "Yeah thank you" I spoke even though she wasn't in the room with me anymore. As I put on a more important dress of mine, I walked down to the throne room hoping some how it would get cancelled and I could retire to my room once more. • 71. Creative Writing Process Analysis Creative Writing is something that everyone is capable of. And we can all improve our creative writing – and our enjoyment of it – in a great number of ways. One of the key factors to writing creatively and freely is confidence. It doesn't matter how talented you are as a writer, if you lack the confidence to write and to explore your writing potential you simply won't create as well or as often as you're capable of creating. So here are 5 powerful tips to help you increase YOUR self–confidence as a creative writer – 1. Believe you're creative. If you didn't believe you were capable of writing creatively at all, you wouldn't even be trying, so you're off to a great start. Now you can build on this core belief. One way of doing this is ... We may as well stick cotton wool in our ears, a sock in our mouth and bag over our heads! It's through our senses we connect with and experience the world. Take some time to go somewhere new and practice using your senses. Concentrate on each of your senses one at a time, what you're really seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling. Do this regularly and you'll have an abundance of rich experiences to draw upon in your writing, which in turn will increase your confidence to write. 3. Set small achievable goals. If you haven't written for a while – months or even years maybe – then to set yourself the task of writing a new novel this weekend is ambitious at best. At worst it's simply setting yourself up for major disappointment and blow to your confidence. Instead, set smaller achievable steps. For example, "Today I'm going to write 250 words about the past life of my book's new character Jake." Start small to build your confidence, then add more challenging tasks for yourself as you go.

  • 74. The Importance Of Creative Writing To think outside the box, to learn to tell enthralling stories, and to write with insight. These are some of the great things that make creative writing become irreplacalbe in my writing life. My writing life starts out with writing whatever comes out to my head, without being troubled by grammar mistakes and a lack of sentence variety. In this case, anything that has to do with free writing such as writing stories and fictions are the things I'm most into in my writing life. But whenever I say I love writing, what I really mean is that I enjoy seeing the process of turning small ideas into bigger ideas, and eventually turning it into my own fiction. I'm not a fan of anything that's related to academic writing, but creative writing is definitely a thing that I would like to do during a Sunday afternoon break. From historical events to fictional characters, my writing material ranges and varies as my mood changes. When I first start doing creative writing four years ago, I found that one of the reasons that it means so much to my writing life is that it allows me to choose what role I am playing every single day–One day I'll be dear John who is left by his wife during World War II, another day I'll be Sacagawea who creates legend that no one will ever forget in human history. With creative writing, I am free to take any role without limitation, and display the plot in my own special way. One of the roles I enjoy playing the most is Mary Sheedy, a widow from the Gilded Age ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Creative Writing Process Essay Have you ever thought about writing your own story? Or even create your own world and share it with the world? Creative writing is the process of doing just that. For my MYP project, I created multiple stories in order to reach my goal of doing just that. Throughout the entire process of this project, I have researched and gone through many difficulties while working on this project. Creative writing is something that not only is used to create worlds but can be used to express emotions as well. First is the process of my project itself. What inspired me to do this project is my overall love for writing stories. I enjoy writing every chance that I get, it soothes my bad feelings. So, since I enjoy writing, I decided to do my project ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason why I chose this is that I thought that this particular Global Context tied into creative writing quite well. I thought this because, with creative writing, you can use it to express your emotions and your feeling about things that you don't agree with. You could also use creative writing to express things inside of your culture to the world or share about other cultures around the world. More Global Contexts that can be used are Identities and Relationships and also Orientation in Time and Space. These can be applied to creative writing not only because they can be applied to express things about yourself, but to broaden your thought process and to figure out things about yourself. For instance, if you started to write about things in the future or in the past, you could grow out the idea that you can to create more about the topic and create theories about the near future and past. And as for Identities and Relationships, they could help someone find out who they really are in personality, sexual orientation, gender, and as well as things they did not know about themselves. And as for Relationships, creative writing could express the undeveloped feelings for crushes, romantic desires, broken hearts, ended friendships, and more. But even though that Identities and Relationships and also Orientation of Time and space, the Inquiry into Personal and Cultural Expression is my main Global Context in ... • 78. Realism And Mary Gaitskill's Six Motives For Creative Writing When interpreting art, there are many questions that can be asked. Who made the art? What was their inspiration? Is this true art? The list of questions go on and on. But, there is really no wrong question. It all depends on your perspective and curiosity. Perspective is something that everyone has; it shows the way that their brain thinks and it also shows opinions. In my perspective, the most important question is why make art? Unit 1: Why Make Art was a great thing to start off with. The unit not only gave us knowledge to walk away with, but we learned many of the reasons of why people do make art. I learned why Realists and Romantics make art, how and why the use of machines is making art, and Mary Gaitskill's six motives for creative writing. The Realist and Romantic Era was very different from each other, but at the same time, they attributed similar characteristics and traits. When we were in class discussing the movie we watched on realism, I noticed that realists were usually black and white. They painted to show what the real world was like. The artists objective was not to make you lust for what everyday people already have. The realists showed true emotions. They showed what it was like to be a working man, stay at home mom, Realism showed war and so much more. The point of making art was to show reality and the truth of human nature. The name itself is self–explanatory; Realism. I am a realistic person, however, I am not strictly black and white biased. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
