Describe Yourself As A Writer
When I was young, I always knew that college is important to the major that you choose. When I
see my aunt, I ask many questions about college and how it is like. I thought it would be
challenging and stressful. Then it was stressful because I want to improve my writing. When I see
myself as a writer, I think about the process, then I consider the improvements I need to make, and
lastly the strengths I have.
First, I think about the writing process. When the teacher or professor give me an essay, I start right
away. I start right away because I don't want my work to be late and I have other assignment to do
for other classes. Once I read the prompt, I start my outline to know what to write in my essay. I just
think about what I know and don't know, then put it onto paper. For the outline, I will do sentences
or sometimes words only. It depends on the topic or essay I write. I find the outline is a helpful way
to get started.
After the outline, I start researching the topic. I use the internet for the research. I use it because it
is helpful. It is helpful because I take examples of how to start. I use google and look at images of
essays. It provides inspiration for the essay....show more content...
I always on task when it come to course work and due dates. , I am creative and very helpful with
other. I do not being behind with my school work because it will effect my goal that i am trying to
improve. A quote that I heard from Peter Elbow is "Don't stop for anything" Peter is try to
explain is just work your way through and don't go back. I think what he is try to tell me that
everyone have a way to get successful in college and school. I feel As a result, I believe that anyone
can get to there goals, so when you're outside of school you will feel awesome and and not be

Good Readers Good Writers
Nabokov: Providing a Flood and Lifeboat
In Nabokov's 1948 "Good Readers and Good Writers," the reader has the opportunity to view the
possibilities of a beautiful collision of a major reader and a major writer. This piece discusses
reading and writing: skills that have become standardized and slightly devalued as education has
advanced. Literacy has become so expected that little thought is put into what defines a good reader
or writer; Nabokov tackles this idea head on. Nabokov's intention of this piece is to passionately
display a relationship that is formed between a good reader and a good writer, and the essential need
for an open mind. He stresses the vitality of understanding instead of immediately identifying when
reading;...show more content...
Instead Nabokov states: "study that new world as closely as possible, approaching it as something
brand new, having no obvious connection with the worlds we already know" (1). When approached
in such a manner a major reader can see the new world in its entirety and once it has been explored
and understood then there is room to compare its connections to other worlds and knowledge.
Nabokov uses bold and unafraid language to emphasize his thoughts and chooses to speak only
to those who choose to listen. The lesson he teaches requires the audience to look past personal
comparison and preference. The audience must gain understand and appreciate first; then let
Nabokov's ideas apply to the world of reading and writing they themselves know it. Nabokov
displays this message by refusing to dull any of his thoughts: for example phrases like, "Can
anybody be so naive as to think he or she can learn anything about the past from those... historical
novels?" (1). He still has a definite message but in a lot of sentences and phrases they have a
condescending punch to them. Nabokov uses superlatives such as: "the best temperament for a
reader to have..." (3). As well as opinionated statements such as: "nothing is more boring or more
unfair..." (1). Statements like these can prevent his audience to open their minds because his
language is emotionally provoking. Nabokov purposely tests his audience by using powerful
provoking language

My Writing
Writing has always been a passion of mine. I always have loved writing. A few years ago I found
my true knack for writing, I wanted be an author. My favorite type of writing is writing stories of
magic, love stories, and adventure. Being a YA Fantasy author is my dream job and I hope it is my
job someday, but until then I have jump the many obstacles to get there. One of those obstacles is
writing this portfolio. Obviously none of these essays have magic, love stories, or adventure in it
so I had to write something out of my comfort zone. I had to dig deeper and truly test my writing
skills. These essays don't have magic, love stories, or adventure, but they show who I am and what
type of writer I am.
The first essay is a research...show more content...
It is a narrative about a journey I have had. A journey I had was when my high school senior cross
country team qualified for sectionals. It was a journey for me in so many ways and was a perfect
to end my high school cross country career. Writing narrative papers are a strength for me. I have
always loved writing narratives and it's easier for me than writing a research paper. For this
narrative, I worked very hard on it and tried to make its best like I did with all my papers, but to
me, I think this paper is the best of the three. I truly enjoyed writing this paper and did not take me
as long to write as it took me with the others because I knew exactly what I wanted to write. This is
my favorite paper out of the

I Am A Writer By Writing
"I'm a Writer" Writing has never really been a passion I possess. I wouldn't go as far to say I hate
it, but, I wouldn't want to say I love it either. For some, writing is a way to escape their own
messed up worlds and creates a new, it's exciting, adventures, and daring, but, to me, writing is such
a tedious task that I as a person do not have the patients to withstand. I haven't always disliked
writing; I actually use to enjoy getting all my thoughts down on paper and coming out with my
own little masterpiece my parents could hang on the fridge and boast about to their friends. The
worst/best paper I ever had to write was in 5th grade, I had to describe my top three very best friends
in five paragraphs or more, then let my elbow partner grade it on a scale from 1–6 ( six being the
best). I put my all into that paper; it was going to be my best paper yet. Getting organized to write
a paper is the worst thing ever; the idea charts, the constant erasing, getting up repeatedly to
sharpen my pencil. I remember writing this particular paper; I had just gotten to school and put
my bag in my cubby. The first thing out of Mr. Leisch's mouth (my teacher at the time) was,
"today we are going to write for the entire day, we are falling behind in this subject compared to the
other three classes and we need to practice." As the rest of my peers groaned and bellyached I was
thrilled, "today will be the day I write a six!" I told myself. As my teacher gave us our

Theory of Writing
Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece
of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the
basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this
semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that
has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create
our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very
similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in–class exercises, and final
assignments, I think I have figured out my own...show more content...
While doing this, I am also learning how to write better as a young adult going into the mature
world where writing is key component in everyday life. Lastly, reflection is usually conceived as an
after thought. Reflection is known to be more personal to the writer. This is good for a writer to link
personal experiences into the writing. Not only is the author reflecting but also the audience too by
creating a mental image in their head. Everyone will not have the same reflection because each
individual thinks differently about various topics. For instance in the magazine article "Is Google
Making us Stoopid?" by Nicholas Carr. Carr explains that Google is something you are researching
rather than learning. In the article, Carr explains his reasoning like "When the Net absorbs a
medium, that medium is recreated in the Net's image. It injects the medium's content with
hyperlinks, blinking ads, and other digital gewgaws, and it surrounds the content with the content of
all the other media it has absorbed. A new e–mail message, for instance, may announce its arrival as
we're glancing over the latest headlines at a newspaper's site. The result is to scatter our attention
and diffuse our concentration." This quote makes me as a reader imagine someone clicking off the
screen to another window where the email site is. It also makes me reflect on when I may have
done this sort of action. I actually just minimized this paper because I just

I Am A Great Writer
I'm a great writer. Writing is something that comes naturally to me. I don't even have to think
about it most of the time. Being able to communicate through writing is important with any
career, especially management. I am very creative as well. Ever since I was a kid, I've always been
into drawing, music, and coming up with new ideas. I am very motivated and I know how to lead
teams. For example, in my Business Ethics class I took it upon myself led a semi–dysfunctional
team and we achieved a good grade in the class. I am also a perfectionist, which is good but can
easily backfire on me. Where I See My Management Weaknesses One of my weaknesses might be
that I'm an introvert. To address the introvert/extravert issue; I'd say I'm more of an introvert.
Some of my favorite authors including Zig Ziglar and Grant Cardone identify themselves as
introverts although they come across as strong extraverts. Mr. Ziglar said something that made
me want to get into sales. He said that introverts make better salespeople because they can relate
to the customer better, research what the customer wants, and adopt characteristics that an
extravert has. On my spare time I read books like "Sell or be sold" by Grant Cardone, "See you at
the top" by Zig Ziglar, "Live your dreams" by Les Brown, and of course "The War of Art" by Steven
Pressfield. All of which motivate me and make me a better person. I view success as my obligation,
duty, and responsibility and I believe it is dangerous to be

Growing As A Writer
Growing as a Writer
From writing thoughtful poems to research papers, I have experienced composing a diverse
portfolio of literary analysis and criticisms throughout the school year. I started out the year
writing minimally. By the end of the year, I noticed I was able to express my ideas and thoughts in a
more clear and concise way on paper. Ultimately, each composition allowed me to widen my
horizons as a writer and see how I could improve as a writer.
After analyzing many of my written works, I highlighted my writing weaknesses along with notable
strengths. Evident in my earlier works, my vocabulary was more basic and was not as powerful
unlike my more recent essays. Seeking to improve, I started utilizing words I learned during the year

I began writing with basic vocabulary and barely any sentence variety. As the year progressed, I
learned to advance my vocabulary and word choice in addition to incorporating a diversity of
sentence structure. Nearing the end of the school year, I acknowledge that I have grown and
learned more about writing. I anticipate that I will receive even more arduous writing
assignments that require more research and time. Although it will be challenging, I feel confident
that I will do well because I feel well prepared from all I've done this year. As I grow older, I will
have to continue to write. I know I can take the knowledge I've learned this year and apply it to
future papers for years to

Why I Want To Be A Writer
I want to be a writer when I grow up. Being a writer is hard. The success of your job is dependent
not only on whether you have done it well but also on whether other people think you have done
well. I would like to be a writer. I don't know if I can do it. It's like any other job; you never know
until you try. But few other jobs are as dependent on the opinions of others and on something that
has no basis in fact or logic. One word out of place can tear a whole work apart, and yet a few black
and white words arranged just so can unleash a world of color and feeling. A spark of inspiration
can create a new world from nothing, metaphorically speaking. It is the gift of God. He gives some
people a story to tell and the ability to tell it. Like any gift from God, it is something to be used to
His glory and not taken lightly. To use any gift takes work....show more content...
In college you can major in Creative Writing but many authors recommend that you do not.
Instead, they advise that you study Literature instead, the great works of authors past and present.
If you don't know what is good, how can you write something good yourself? Or you can do this
outside of college and simply read the great works of literature on your own, studying what makes
these writers great, what writing tricks and techniques make up their style. The purpose is not to
copy them; the purpose is to be inspired. To be awriter you must write. This is the most important
piece of advice. Write anything, even if it's as flat as the floor. The more you use words, the more
they become willing to be used by you. The more you write, the more you have something to write.
Writing is both a skill and a gift. It is both acquired and

Fanny Fern Research Paper
The Life of Fanny Fern the American Writer
Fanny Fern, a prominent writer of her time, was an American newspaper columnist, humorist,
novelist, and author of children's stories. According to Baym, Levine, Fanny was known for being
the first female newspaper columnist, as well as the highest paid columnist in the United States by
1855 (906). Moreover, she was well–known for her controversial style of writing which gained her
popularity during her time. Fanny's writing went against the social norm and other female writers
during this period which made her one of the most significant voices of the nineteenth–century.
Within Fanny's novels, she discussed her childhood and immediate family issues, while her columns
often addressed and spoke out...show more content...
Though her fellow female writers were writing literature that was affectionate and intricate, Fanny's
writing was quite the opposite. She focused her writings on topics which others considered
inappropriate for female writers, especially men. For instance, equal opportunity for women,
divorce, and children's education reform are to name a few. Fanny was an advocate for the rights of
women. Her writing focused on what was important to her as well as other woman at that time. Yet,
in Fanny's best–selling novel, Ruth Hall, she divulged her private life. According to Harris, Fanny's
novel exposed her happy marriage, the lack of affection and help from family after the death of
her husband and mother died, and her financial (345). Interestingly, readers were eager to read
about the life of Fanny Fern. They were especially eager to read what she had written about her
famous brother Nathaniel Parker. Although many criticized her for publicly exposing many aspects
of her life, Ruth Hall, was her best–selling novel that gained her notoriety amongst numerous men
and women readers. Fanny published her first sketch, "The Model Husband," with the Boston Olive
Branch. It was unfortunate that Fanny's brother, Nathaniel Willis, rejected her unpublished sketches
because they were tasteless obscene (Baym, Levine 904). Despite the unwarranted criticism and lack
of support from her brother, Fanny continued perfecting her writing which increased her

Obviously none of these essays have magic, love stories, or adventure in it so I had to write something out of my comfort zone. I had to dig deeper and truly test my writing skills. These essays don't have magic, love stories, or adventure, but they show who I am and what type of writer I am. The first essay is a research...show more content... It is a narrative about a journey I have had. A journey I had was when my high school senior cross country team qualified for sectionals. It was a journey for me in so many ways and was a perfect to end my high school cross country career. Writing narrative papers are a strength for me. I have always loved writing narratives and it's easier for me than writing a research paper. For this narrative, I worked very hard on it and tried to make its best like I did with all my papers, but to me, I think this paper is the best of the three. I truly enjoyed writing this paper and did not take me as long to write as it took me with the others because I knew exactly what I wanted to write. • 4. I Am A Writer By Writing "I'm a Writer" Writing has never really been a passion I possess. I wouldn't go as far to say I hate it, but, I wouldn't want to say I love it either. For some, writing is a way to escape their own messed up worlds and creates a new, it's exciting, adventures, and daring, but, to me, writing is such a tedious task that I as a person do not have the patients to withstand. I haven't always disliked writing; I actually use to enjoy getting all my thoughts down on paper and coming out with my own little masterpiece my parents could hang on the fridge and boast about to their friends. The worst/best paper I ever had to write was in 5th grade, I had to describe my top three very best friends in five paragraphs or more, then let my elbow partner grade it on a scale from 1–6 ( six being the best). I put my all into that paper; it was going to be my best paper yet. Getting organized to write a paper is the worst thing ever; the idea charts, the constant erasing, getting up repeatedly to sharpen my pencil. I remember writing this particular paper; I had just gotten to school and put my bag in my cubby. The first thing out of Mr. Leisch's mouth (my teacher at the time) was, "today we are going to write for the entire day, we are falling behind in this subject compared to the other three classes and we need to practice." As the rest of my peers groaned and bellyached I was thrilled, "today will be the day I write a six!" I told myself. As my teacher gave us our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Theory of Writing Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in–class exercises, and final assignments, I think I have figured out my own...show more content... While doing this, I am also learning how to write better as a young adult going into the mature world where writing is key component in everyday life. Lastly, reflection is usually conceived as an after thought. Reflection is known to be more personal to the writer. This is good for a writer to link personal experiences into the writing. Not only is the author reflecting but also the audience too by creating a mental image in their head. Everyone will not have the same reflection because each individual thinks differently about various topics. For instance in the magazine article "Is Google Making us Stoopid?" by Nicholas Carr. Carr explains that Google is something you are researching rather than learning. In the article, Carr explains his reasoning like "When the Net absorbs a medium, that medium is recreated in the Net's image. It injects the medium's content with hyperlinks, blinking ads, and other digital gewgaws, and it surrounds the content with the content of all the other media it has absorbed. A new e–mail message, for instance, may announce its arrival as we're glancing over the latest headlines at a newspaper's site. The result is to scatter our attention and diffuse our concentration." This quote makes me as a reader imagine someone clicking off the screen to another window where the email site is. It also makes me reflect on when I may have done this sort of action. I actually just minimized this paper because I just Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. I Am A Great Writer I'm a great writer. Writing is something that comes naturally to me. I don't even have to think about it most of the time. Being able to communicate through writing is important with any career, especially management. I am very creative as well. Ever since I was a kid, I've always been into drawing, music, and coming up with new ideas. I am very motivated and I know how to lead teams. For example, in my Business Ethics class I took it upon myself led a semi–dysfunctional team and we achieved a good grade in the class. I am also a perfectionist, which is good but can easily backfire on me. Where I See My Management Weaknesses One of my weaknesses might be that I'm an introvert. To address the introvert/extravert issue; I'd say I'm more of an introvert. Some of my favorite authors including Zig Ziglar and Grant Cardone identify themselves as introverts although they come across as strong extraverts. Mr. Ziglar said something that made me want to get into sales. He said that introverts make better salespeople because they can relate to the customer better, research what the customer wants, and adopt characteristics that an extravert has. On my spare time I read books like "Sell or be sold" by Grant Cardone, "See you at the top" by Zig Ziglar, "Live your dreams" by Les Brown, and of course "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. All of which motivate me and make me a better person. I view success as my obligation, duty, and responsibility and I believe it is dangerous to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Growing As A Writer Growing as a Writer From writing thoughtful poems to research papers, I have experienced composing a diverse portfolio of literary analysis and criticisms throughout the school year. I started out the year writing minimally. By the end of the year, I noticed I was able to express my ideas and thoughts in a more clear and concise way on paper. Ultimately, each composition allowed me to widen my horizons as a writer and see how I could improve as a writer. As the year progressed, I learned to advance my vocabulary and word choice in addition to incorporating a diversity of sentence structure. Nearing the end of the school year, I acknowledge that I have grown and learned more about writing. I anticipate that I will receive even more arduous writing assignments that require more research and time. Although it will be challenging, I feel confident that I will do well because I feel well prepared from all I've done this year. As I grow older, I will have to continue to write. • 8. Why I Want To Be A Writer I want to be a writer when I grow up. Being a writer is hard. The success of your job is dependent not only on whether you have done it well but also on whether other people think you have done well. I would like to be a writer. I don't know if I can do it. It's like any other job; you never know until you try. But few other jobs are as dependent on the opinions of others and on something that has no basis in fact or logic. One word out of place can tear a whole work apart, and yet a few black and white words arranged just so can unleash a world of color and feeling. A spark of inspiration can create a new world from nothing, metaphorically speaking. It is the gift of God. He gives some people a story to tell and the ability to tell it. Like any gift from God, it is something to be used to His glory and not taken lightly. To use any gift takes work....show more content... In college you can major in Creative Writing but many authors recommend that you do not. Instead, they advise that you study Literature instead, the great works of authors past and present. If you don't know what is good, how can you write something good yourself? Or you can do this outside of college and simply read the great works of literature on your own, studying what makes these writers great, what writing tricks and techniques make up their style. The purpose is not to copy them; the purpose is to be inspired. To be awriter you must write. This is the most important piece of advice. Write anything, even if it's as flat as the floor. The more you use words, the more they become willing to be used by you. The more you write, the more you have something to write. Writing is both a skill and a gift. • 9. Fanny Fern Research Paper The Life of Fanny Fern the American Writer Fanny Fern, a prominent writer of her time, was an American newspaper columnist, humorist, novelist, and author of children's stories. According to Baym, Levine, Fanny was known for being the first female newspaper columnist, as well as the highest paid columnist in the United States by 1855 (906). Moreover, she was well–known for her controversial style of writing which gained her popularity during her time. Fanny's writing went against the social norm and other female writers during this period which made her one of the most significant voices of the nineteenth–century. Within Fanny's novels, she discussed her childhood and immediate family issues, while her columns often addressed and spoke out...show more content... Though her fellow female writers were writing literature that was affectionate and intricate, Fanny's writing was quite the opposite. She focused her writings on topics which others considered inappropriate for female writers, especially men. For instance, equal opportunity for women, divorce, and children's education reform are to name a few. Fanny was an advocate for the rights of women. Her writing focused on what was important to her as well as other woman at that time. Yet, in Fanny's best–selling novel, Ruth Hall, she divulged her private life. According to Harris, Fanny's novel exposed her happy marriage, the lack of affection and help from family after the death of her husband and mother died, and her financial (345). Interestingly, readers were eager to read about the life of Fanny Fern. They were especially eager to read what she had written about her famous brother Nathaniel Parker. Although many criticized her for publicly exposing many aspects of her life, Ruth Hall, was her best–selling novel that gained her notoriety amongst numerous men and women readers. Fanny published her first sketch, "The Model Husband," with the Boston Olive Branch. It was unfortunate that Fanny's brother, Nathaniel Willis, rejected her unpublished sketches because they were tasteless obscene (Baym, Levine 904). Despite the unwarranted criticism and lack of support from her brother, Fanny continued perfecting her writing which increased her Get more content on HelpWriting.net
