3. INTRODUCTION
Holiness is the very essence of God because
of His Sovereignty. The basic meaning of the
word holy is “separate.” That is, unique from
all other beings or things. Since God is the
Creator of all things, He cannot be compared
to any of His creations. He is far above all of
His creation. It was for this reason that
God’s first commandment was for nothing to
be placed above Him. The second was do not
attempt to compare Him to anything (His
image and likeness).
4. While the Bible “calls” for mankind to
BE holy, the Bible “declares” that God
IS holy. God’s covenant name is
“Yahweh,” and it establishes His
uniqueness. It is translated as “I AM”
and means I sustain Myself. It is
called “The Uncaused, Cause.” God
caused everything to come into
existence, but Himself. Therefore, He
is unique from all things. This is
verified by several biblical aspects:

6. BIBLICAL TRUTH
Jesus came in the flesh to reveal God to the
world, as a loving and caring Father, but also
as a Holy God. The holiness of God was
displayed in Jesus, by His wiliness to lay
down His life for us and the power of the
Holy Spirit to raise Him from the dead.
“This power he exercised in Christ when he raised
him from the dead and seated him at his right hand
in the heavenly realms far above every rule and
authority and power and dominion and every name
that is named, not only in this age but also in the one
to come.” (Ephesians 1:20–21, NET)
