2. WHAT IS THE PRESENCE OF GOD ?
• Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
• Omnipresence of God
• Daniel 3:24 He answered, “Look! I see four men untied, walking around in the midst of
the fire, and they are not hurt! And the appearance of the fourth is like [d]a son of the
gods!
• Manifest presence of God
3. REVERENCE IN THE PRESENCE
• Reverence
–
Deep respect for something or
someone
What are physical ways of demonstrating respect for
someone or something ?
4. EXODUS 3:1-6
KEY POINTS
- MOSES SAW A
BURNING BUSH THAT
WAS NOT BEING
DESTROYED
- THE LORD CALLED
MOSES
-THE LORD TOLD
MOSES TO TAKE OFF
HIS SANDALS BECAUSE
HE WAS STANDING ON
‘HOLY GROUND’
• 1Moses’ father-in-law was named Jethro.[a] Jethro was a priest
of Midian. Moses took care of Jethro’s sheep. One day Moses
led the sheep to the west side of the desert. He went to a
mountain called Horeb,[b] the mountain of God. 2 On that
mountain, Moses saw the angel of the LORD in a burning bush.
• Moses saw a bush that was burning without being
destroyed. 3 So he decided to go closer to the bush and see
how a bush could continue burning without being burned up.
• 4 The LORD saw Moses was coming to look at the bush. So he
called to him from the bush. He said, “Moses, Moses!”
• Moses said, “Yes, Lord.”
• 5 Then God said, “Don’t come any closer. Take off your sandals.
You are standing on holy ground. 6 I am the God of your
ancestors. I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the
God of Jacob.”
• Moses covered his face because he was afraid to look at God.
5. EXODUS 3:11-12
• 11But Moses said to God, “I am not a great man! How can I be the one to go to
Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of Egypt?”
• 12 God said, “You can do it because I will be with you. This will be the proof that I
am sending you: After you lead the people out of Egypt, you will come and
worship me on this mountain.”
6. 2On that mountain, Moses saw the angel of
the LORD in a burning bush.
Moses saw a bush that was burning without
being destroyed. 3 So he decided to go closer
to the bush and see how a bush could
continue burning without being burned up.
What comes to mind when you think of fire?
- Purification, cleaning, holiness
-Gods presence is a consuming fire of holiness
that doesn’t burn out
-Why did Moses decide to go closer ?
SCRIPTURAL STUDY
7. 4The LORD saw Moses was coming to look at the bush. So
he called to him from the bush. He said, “Moses, Moses!”
- As Moses drew nearer to the presence of God, God called
unto him
- Questions to ask yourself
- Why didn’t the lord Call Moses when He was still far
- Why did he call his name twice? When he was already
coming
- Moses said, “Yes, Lord.”
- How did Moses know this was the ‘Lord’ ?
“MOSES,
MOSES!”
8. 5 Then God said, “Don’t come any closer. Take off your sandals. You are standing on
holy ground.”
- “God said” – Reverence is something that God demanded, its not something we do
because we think its nice
- Take off your sandals
- God can see his heart so why did he need to take off his shoes ?
- “The hinderances to a spirit of reverence lie on the very surface of our life”.
“Take off your sandals”
9. MEETING
HIM IN THE
PRESENCE
• Hebrews 12:18, 22, 24
• 18 For you have not come [as did the Israelites in the
wilderness] to a mountain that can be touched and
to a blazing fire, and to gloom and darkness and a
raging windstorm 1
• 22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city
of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to
myriads of angels [in festive gathering],
• 24 and to Jesus, the Mediator of a new covenant
[uniting God and man], and to the sprinkled blood,
which speaks [of mercy], a
better and nobler and more gracious message
than the blood of Abel [which cried out for
vengeance].
10. • There is freedom In his presence (Hebrews 4:16)
• Gods presence is more than a moment
• In The Presence we meet Jesus
• Our devotion must be to the presence
• Transformation requires an encounter
• John 5:39 You search and keep on searching and
examining the Scriptures because you think that
in them you have eternal life; and yet it is those
[very Scriptures] that testify about Me; 40 and still
you are unwilling to come to Me so that you
may have life
• Our knowledge of Christ is evident in our fruit
MEETING
HIM IN THE
PRESENCE
11. HOW …
• Heart Check – Are there past hurts, shame or pain that are stopping you from
going deeper
• Get to know him (for the right reason) – Read his word and get to know his voice
• Spend time in prayer
12. HEBREWS 13:5
I WILL NEVER [under any circumstances] DESERT
YOU [nor give you up nor leave you without support,
nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], NOR WILL
I FORSAKE or LET YOU DOWN or RELAX MY HOLD ON
YOU [assuredly not]!
