2. This year is devoted to understanding
and learning more about worship. We
will have a different focus each month,
but the main emphasis will be learning
how God wants us to worship Him. This
month our focus will be “Man-made
Worship.” This is worship that has as its
object satisfying self. It is the devil’s
subtle way of taking the focus of worship
away from God and placing it on things,
styles, music or personalities.
3. The Scriptural foundational is found in
Paul’s letter to the Colossians.
“These things indeed have an
appearance of wisdom in self-imposed
religion, false humility, and neglect of
the body, but are of no value against
the indulgence of the flesh” (2:23, NKJV) .
The word translated as self-imposed is
rendered “will” in the KJV. Its worship
from man’s will and not his spirit.
4. The Apostle Paul summarized the acts of
those who love to receive commendation
from people. They attempt to satisfy God
through their own efforts. As a result,
they practice "will-worship" (KJV) or
"self-imposed worship" (NIV) rather
than accepting the pattern God has
given in the Scriptures. So, instead of
following scriptural teaching, they
substituted a self-manufactured worship
that glorified self, not God.
5. MAN-MADE WORSHIP
• Becomes A Burden; Not a Blessing
• Is Based upon Feelings; Not Facts
• Is Motivated by Sight; Not by Faith
• May Please People, But it Does Not
Please the LORD
