3. •In the Gospel of Matthew, chapter seven, verses seven
and eight, Jesus imparted the lesson of asking, seeking,
and knocking, a course by which one can discover the
answers to human questions. For practical as well as
spiritual reasons, Jesus spoke these words in the
present tense, using active terms in an imperative mood
to convey his message. His meaning is that one must
continue asking, seeking, and knocking.
4. •Essentially, through grammar that has been translated
over the centuries into English, Jesus speaks to us
saying that, when searching for answers in life, we must
seek God’s help for as long as it takes. Persons who turn
to God for answers should ask until their voices give out.
They should seek even though their feet ache and keep
knocking despite bruised knuckles and weary arms.
Through it all, seekers should look for signs of
encouragement, which often arrive in the form of people
who enter our lives and bring with them encouragement.
