Nantucket Nectars Case Study
Nantucket Nectars' "Juice Guys" Bottle Formula for Success With Quality Ingredients The island of
Nantucket is known for its entrepreneurial spirit. Tom Scott and Tom First caught that fever nine
years ago when they started peddling Nantucket Nectars in the island's harbor. Now the self–
proclaimed "juice guys" hold the number–two spot in the New Age beverage market. To say the
juice guys started their company, Nantucket Nectars, on a shoestring budget would be an
understatement. The two Toms built a multi–million dollar company with an initial investment
limited to a $170 bottle–cap hand press, recycled bottles and an assortment of fruit. They had no
formal business training and conducted no market research. Their business was born ... Show more

They're motto: 'Ain't nothing them boys won't do.' The young business owners shampooed their
share of dogs and cleaned a good number of boats to keep their dream alive. More than alive,
Allserve would thrive and expand to include two more boats in its fleet that summer. When the busy
season ended, it was time for the boys to return to Brown and complete their education. Little did
they know they were on the brink of discovering a multi–million dollar business with only a strong
entrepreneurial spirit, a modest amount of money and a recipe for success. They could not know it
then, but Allserve would lead them to the first channel of distribution for their future juice business.
After graduating college, the two returned to the island of Nantucket to pick up where they left off
with Allserve. But they knew once the season ended, the winter months would be challenging at
best. "We were looking for ways to make our business year–round, and we were involved in a lot of
different things. We were involved in the scallop industry, storing boats in the winter, servicing
engines. We even distributed bread," explains First. Only a brave few people dared to endure the
slow winter months on the island, but those who did had to stick together. Cook–offs were common
on many nights, where Nantucket natives gathered to show off their culinary skills. First would
bring the juice. This was not just any juice, but a special

Essay on Juice Guys Case Study Analysis
Juice Guys™ In the summer of 1998, Nantucket Nectar created a subsidiary of their brand called
Juice Guys. This new product was comprised of fresh juice and fruit smoothie drinks that were
taking over the West Coast. Within three–and–a–half months, Juice Guys had sold a total of 175,000
items ranging from smoothies, yogurts, sorbets, Nantucket Nectar drinks and fresh squeezed juices.
Juice Guys' revenue went up to 91% and they made a profit of $227,000 in sales. Noticing the
tremendous success within the industry in such a short time, Nantucket Nectar and Juice Guys
decided to expand this new juice retail concept into the East Coast. Their primary focus within the
East Coast was expansion into the Boston market. Although this ... Show more content on

The article stated that, "many East Coast baby boomers were wondering, "what's a smoothie?" (Fox
& Rushmore, 1999, p. 4). This statement not only indicated that people in the East Coast were not
aware of this new juice trend, it also stated that "consumers' demands and tastes can greatly change
from one demographic to another" (Fox & Rushmore, 1999, p. 4); whereas allowing Juice Guys the
opportunity to sell more than just juice and also resulting in Juice Guys indentifying between the
ages of 18–35 to be their leading influential target market.
With having only one of "The Four Ps," (the place), Juice Guys had to come up with a marketing
plan to develop the other three Ps; which were of product, promotion and price. Juice Guys knew
they wanted to sell fresh juices and fruit smoothies; however, they needed to know if the consumers
wanted more than just those products. Also, they needed to find a way to promote their new
products and make their prices economically feasible for the consumers in this new place; which
was Boston. In order to accomplish this, they needed consumers to let them know what they thought
was the ultimate juice shop.
Marketing research defined is "the systematic design, collection, analysis, and reporting of data and
findings relevant to a specific marketing situation facing the company" (Kotler & Keller, 2009, p.

Historical Steps Toward Religious Liberty
What follows is a skimpy sketch of some things you should know.
There were three types of colonies:
Charter: The king grants a license to run a colony on "his" land in America.
Proprietary: The king gives land and all rights to run a colony to an individual or a group. The
colony then belongs to the proprietor(s).
Royal: The king owns the colony.
Though religious freedom is often cited as the reason for people migrating from England to
America, it is too simplistic. It is more accurate to say that religious groups came for their own
security, but were not committed to equal religious liberty for all.
Religious freedom and tolerance developed over time.
Here are some of the important steps toward religious liberty:
The establishment of Rhode Island as a colony separate from Massachusetts. Roger Williams, the
founder, was a Puritan rebel exiled from Massachusetts bay Colony because he challenged the
establishment of religion. When he and his followers started the town of Providence, he guaranteed
religious liberty for any Christian.
The Act of Toleration. Maryland was supposed to be an all–Catholic colony. That was what Lord
Baltimore, the proprietor, wanted. However, more Protestants moved there than Catholics, looking
for the opportunity to own land. Tension between the two Christian groups threatened the peace of
the colony, so the 2nd Lord Baltimore guaranteed freedom of religion for all Christians and allowed
Protestants to hold office.

The Triangle Trade Provided The New World
This was an exchange of people, animals, diseases, plants, technology, ideas, and culture between
The Old World, New World and Africa that started in 1492 when Christopher Columbus set foot in
the New World, thinking he'd hit India. The triangle trade provided the New World (America) with
food, animals, and diseases from The Old World. Africa gave the New World slaves, and the New
World gave the Old World gold, silver, and raw materials. 1518– mid 1900s: Middle Passage
African slaves were shipped to the West Indies and America as part of the Triangular Trade. Many
slaves died on the voyage due to the ghastly conditions that accompanied the Middle Passage and
others committed suicide. Portugal held a near monopoly on the export of African slaves for a
period of about 200 years from the early 14–1600s. The peak years of the slave trade were during
the 16th and 17th century, but Africans were forced across the Atlantic for an astonishing timeframe
of around 400 years. May 14, 1607: Jamestown Jamestown, Virginia was the primary permanent
English settlement in the New World and was founded by Captain John Smith. Tobacco was the
main cash crop, and John Smith had to be strict to make sure people worked hard enough to get their
food. It was a joint stock company where colonists had rights like Englishmen did. November 11,

An Effective Retail Design That Maximize Success For Juice...
This problem case details the steps to determine an effective retail design that would maximize
success for Juice Guys in the east coast market. After reaching triumph in the west coast market,
Juice Guys is looking to expand firstly into the Boston neighbourhoods. Boston consumers had a
strong likeness for Nantucket Nectars but the market was different: metropolitan city (year round)
versus summer only in Nantucket Island.
To accomplish this feat, the company must decide how to target and position the stores given the
differential differences in demographic and environmental traits. Furthermore, Juice Guys needs to
determine who are their customers, their inclinations for the product and their preferences to a
smoothie store. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poses a substantial financial loss as each store provides a total of $1300 with margins as high as
50%. Alternatively, Juice Guys has only been successful in the west coast; therefore the company
will not risk future losses. However, as there is a growing market for healthy lifestyles, this presents
a considerable growth option for the company.
2. Expand into east coast and design like west coast
Juice Guys currently has a strong reputation in the west coast, which can be carried forward to their
operations in the east. They have a deep reputation with consumers for their products, which leads to
increased potential of brand resonance. However, as the west coast consumers differ from the east,
there is the possibility of Juice Guys products not being accepted as welcomingly.
3. Expand into east coast and design for east coast needs
Juice Guys can capitalize on the brand equity of the brand yet design retail concepts in Boston
according to local needs. This option will allow the company to replicate the success they achieved
in Nantucket Island (modifying operations to open during summer to meet local consumer needs).
Additionally, this will allow the Boston market to understand this new product offering. However, as
retail concepts differ across the country, there may be the lack of consistency across the brand,
which will confuse consumers in Juice Guys' brand message.

Henry David Thoreau : Civil Disobedience
"That government is best which governs least," this is a quote from Henry David Thoreau from his
well–known book called Civil Disobedience (Baym, Levine ,2012). His famous book was written
after he was jailed for a night for refusing to pay a tax. However, the following day his relatives paid
the tax without his knowledge and this inspired his book Civil Disobedience. Though Henry David
Thoreau is also known for being a poet, practical philosopher and his two–year project at Walden
pond near Concord, Massachusetts ("Henry David Thoreau," 2014). His project consisted of him
leaving behind the influence of society and living a minimalist lifestyle for two years. In his book,
Walden, or Life in the Woods, in the economy portion he illustrates the benefits of living a
simplified lifestyle. Thoreau also describes his project as an act of self–reliance and practicing his
faith as a Transcendentalist. As well as, Thoreau believes in minimizing one's needs to four
necessities which is food, shelter, clothing and fuel, all four of these are readily found in nature.
Furthermore, Thoreau argues his view on the benefits of a simplified lifestyle, self–reliance, and his
necessities can be found in nature. Additionally, Thoreau asserts that excess possessions oppresses
people spiritually with worry and requires excess labor to purchase a consumer good. As the society
continues to indulge in buying consumer goods people feel as though they need to own things, this
need forces them to

Essay about The History and Development of Dennisport
If you're like many of our customers, you've been coming to Dennisport for years. Whether your
parents brought you, a friend got married here or you stumbled onto our sandy shores one fateful
night, Dennisport has a way of hooking you in and bringing you back. In the grand scheme of
things, the tourism era of Dennisport's history started relatively recently, but the part of town
between Route 28 and Nantucket Sound has a rich history dating back to the colonial era.
The first settlers descended on the land that was to become Dennis and Dennis Port in 1639. As a
matter of background, the land that is now Dennis was selected not for its proximity to the ocean,
but for its abundance of fresh water ponds and springs. It is estimated ... Show more content on

In an odd quirk of history, Dennis was the one of the first towns in America to manufacture salt! By
1803, there were 24 different salt works operating in town, with vats totaling more than 19,500
running feet.
After the War, fishing became the dominant industry of the town, and the Dennisport area benefited
greatly. By virtue of its location on Nantucket Sound, Dennisport hauled ashore thousands of tons
through the 1800s. You can see this seafaring lineage in the architecture of many of the houses along
Chase Ave, Depot Street and other surrounding roads. The "widow's walks" and cupolas along the
roofs once served a purpose other than enjoying a cocktail while drinking in a sunset – they were
lookouts for sea captain's and sailors' wives to watch for the return of their loved ones. Our
Admiral's house was once actually home to a sea captain, and we've incorporated many of these
design features into the Captain's and Commodore's houses. At one point, the fishing fleet of Dennis
brought in almost 7,000 tons of fish annually, a staggering number for the 18th and 19th centuries.
The completion of the Cape Cod Central Railroad was the first truly transformative event in the
village's history. The Cape Cod Branch Railroad, later the Cape Cod Central Railroad and the Old
Colony Railroad, reached the village somewhere around 1863–65, with the "South Dennis" and later
the "Bass River" stations opening on Great Western Road and

Descriptive Essay On Nantucketu
I am fortunate enough to live on the beautiful island of Nantucket. Growing up here in such a close
knit community, has put me aside from your average high schooler in the best way possible.
Nantucket is full of incredible wildlife and conservation land that is so unique it looks untouched.
Wintertime, when all the summer people leave, you know everybody on the island. It's literally
impossible to drive through town without seeing a familiar face. But by the time summer comes the
island explodes with electricity that's unlike anywhere else. Massive yachts pack our tiny harbor and
enormous private jets fill the airport on the weekends. Having such a drastic change is something
that makes Nantucket so unique. Personally, I don't have a favorite season, Nantucket is perfect year
round and that's why I feel so blessed to call it home. When the days are shorter and the water is
colder the tourists are driven away, leaving a small community, one of the greatest communities on
the planet. So close that when someone dies it can affect the whole island. The best feature
Nantucket has to offer is how the locals come together and help others in need. When something
happens, news travels fast and everyone knows. Having a small community also makes our sports
teams closer, we have no choice but to play together. We spend a lot more time together than other
teams, every away game we have to take a boat then a school bus to the game. Doing that gets us
more comfortable with each other

The New England 's New World
Essay 1
In order to practice religious freedoms, Puritans fled from England to the New World. The New
World represented potential and freedoms that were unattainable in England. The New England
settlers overcame adversities and created challenges that would go on to change the course of
history. When they first arrived, their inexperience was shown through the death of nearly half their
colony in the first year. The introduction of the Wampanoag tribe to the New England colony was
such a crucial component to their survival and a primary reason they were able to sustain and even
increase their population. The New England colony proved to be successful in establishing a
necessary relationship with the Wampanoag, thriving through their protestant work ethic, and
ultimately creating a stable settlement; however, they failed when it came to maintaining that stable
relationship with the Wampanoag, their lack of experience in the New World, and the hypocritical
tendencies of their actions.
When the Pilgrims first arrived, they were not hesitant about claiming land and getting right to
work. Their protestant work ethic ensured that they worked hard because there was a high moral
obligation to fulfill ones duty in worldly affairs. Worldly success is a sign of God's favor, so when
they landed upon an abandoned Indian village they took it as a sign from God that they were on the
right path and were being rewarded. They established communities of family farmers, which proved

Transcendentalism And Transcendentalism : Transcendentalism
Between the 1840s and 1860s, the movement known as Transcendentalism surfaced and soared. The
Transcendentalist movement began as a physiological movement, which then influenced the
literature of those who studied it, including its American literary founder, Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Transcendentalism took place at the end of the Romanticism era and the beginning of the Realism
time period, but it had its own distinct characteristics.
Transcendentalists were known for believing in a new way of comprehending knowledge and the
truth. On the foundation of this belief, they built the movement. The movement first began in
Germany when, Immanuel Kant, began combatting the Scientific Revolution's storing of facts by
writing about the abstracts of existence. His argument, which became the driving force of
Transcendentalism, was that each individual has the right to reason for themselves and to fit their
reasoning into their view of the world as a whole. This argument encouraged a spark of skepticism
in doubt, which fueled the movement.
American Transcendentalism was started by Ralph Waldo Emerson and those who studied under
him. At this time, "Emerson and his contemporaries saw a nation on the brink of discovering its own
voice" (Rahn, 1), which became the starting point for the american movement. They saw it as a
chance to break away from England's shadow and forge ahead on a new path of literature for
themselves. Works from this time period were focused on self–discovery, forming

The Legacy Of John Adams
Paragraph 1:
John Adams was born on October 30, 1735 and died July 4, 1826. He was an early advocate of
American independence from Great Britain, a major figure in the Continental Congress author of the
Massachusetts constitution, signer of the Treaty of Paris, first American ambassador to the Court of
St. James, first vice president, and second president of the United States. Although Adams was
looked as one of the most significant statesmen of the revolutionary era, his reputation faded in the
19th century, only to grow again during the last half of the 20th century.

Paragraph 3:
Born on September 16, 1722, Samuel Adams was born to a family which was well versed in
political protest. His father, Deacon Adams, was a brewer, and owned a brewery in Boston. During
the 1730's, Boston experienced a severe economic recession due to a lack of currency, or paper
money, in circulation. As a result, in 1739 Deacon Adams helped found the Land Bank which
offered paper money to borrowers who mortgaged their property. This Land Bank currency was very
popular, especially with poor farmers. It allowed them the power to purchase goods from Boston
merchants who were in desperate need of customers. The Land Bank seemed to solve all problems;
it gave farmers more purchasing power, and allowed Boston merchants to sell more goods.

The New Of Colonial America
America
Colonial America was the era when America was made up of different colonies; in this case there
were thirteen. Colonial America lasted from 1587 to 1770, 183 years long. As said before, there
were thirteen colonies: four New England colonies, four Middle colonies, and five Southern
colonies. The New England colonies were New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and
Massachusetts, otherwise known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The four Middle colonies were
New York, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, North
Carolina, and Maryland made up the Southern colonies. These colonies were located in North
America, along the Atlantic coast. Although these were the main colony groups, the very first colony
was founded at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. People settled in the colonies in North America to
have a better life, and to escape persecution from people with different beliefs. The next colony,
founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims, was Plymouth, Massachusetts. Native Americans assisted the
Pilgrims when they first arrived at Plymouth. Two of the Native Americans were Samoset and
Squanto, an English–speaking Pawtuxet, who was kidnapped by Europeans, but was later freed.
Another colony that was helped by Native Americans was Virginia, where tobacco was used as a
cash crop that helped Virginia prosper. The colonies in Colonial America not only prospered from
cash crops, but slaves as well. African Americans were brought in on trade ships

The Andrea Doria And The Collisions Of The Andrea Doria
The night of July 25, 1956 the Stockholm, a Swedish passenger liner, collided into the Andrea
Doria, Italian luxury liner, south of Nantucket. The collision claimed 46 lives onboard the Andrea
Doria and five lives onboard the Stockholm. This was the world's first RADAR assisted collision at
sea (Halpern, 2008). However, the collision was not caused by a RADAR malfunction. The collision
was a result from the incompetence of the crew with the RADAR and the overall misconduct of the
crew. The fog was very dense around the Andrea Doria as it traveled west at 267 degrees true with a
speed of 21.8 knots (Halpern, 2008). The master of the Andrea Doria, Captain Piero Calamai, made
all preparations necessary for navigation in fog (Halpern, 2008). This included additional lookouts
on the bow and in the bridge, watertight doors closed, extra men on standby in the engine room, and
a fog whistle sounding. Once the Nantucket lightship was detected on the RADAR dead ahead,
Capt. Calamai ordered course change to 261 degrees to pass about a mile and half south of the light
ship (Halpern, 2008). The Stockholm was running at 18.5 knots eastbound toward the Nantucket
Shoals lightship at 090 degrees true, in a visibility of about 5 miles (Halpern, 2008). The Stockholm
planned to go north towards Nova Scotia before heading across the Atlantic to Sweden. However,

Position Paper for the World Health Organization
The topics before the World Health Organization (WHO) are: Climate Change and Health, and
Global Burden of Mental Disorders and the Need for a Comprehensive, Coordinated Response from
Health and Social Sectors at the Country Level. The United States of America expresses concern for
these issues and is looking forward to collaborating with Member States to find adequate and long
lasting solutions.
I. Climate Change and Health
The United States of America acknowledges the threat climate change poses to health and stresses
the importance of strengthening health systems to manage adverse outcomes. Through the
Sustainable and Climate Resilient Health Care Facilities Initiative (SCRHCFI), the U.S. has
provided tools and information to health officials to better prepare for natural disasters. The
Climate–Ready States and Cities Initiative (CRSCI) has funded 18 state and local health
departments to improve the capacity of vulnerable communities to deal with health challenges
associated with climate change. In 2013, we created the Climate Action Plan (CAP) with the goals
of cutting carbon pollution in America and improving climate resilience at the state and local level.
Since then, the U.S. has expanded the goals to reach a global scale and by partnering bilaterally with
India, we have invested $125 million towards advancing clean energy. Additionally, The United

Cambodian Immigrants And Health Care
Cambodian Immigrants and Health care in the United States
Over the last decade more immigrants have traveled to the United States from Asia than any other
nationality (Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum [APIAHF], 2015). Understanding
the specific needs of this population is important to prevent health disparities. Currently Asians are
the only racial group who's leading cause of death is cancer (Tseng et al., 2010). Asian Americans
are also more likely to suffer from hepatitis B and tuberculosis. Both children and adults are more
likely to have diabetes due to obesity. Many Asian Americans also suffer from mental disorders,
specifically depression and PTSD (Tseng et al., 2010). Cambodian patients in particular have
"significantly higher physical and mental health problems compared to the general population"
(Poitras, 2013, para. 1). In fact, sources noted that terrible treatment by the communist group Khmer
Rouge which resulted in the Cambodian Genocide, caused a great deal of mental illness in
Cambodian immigrants (C. Heinrich, personal communication, April 24, 2016; Poitras, 2013).
Unfortunately, this cultural group experiences considerable barriers to health care for several
reasons.
Cambodian patients tend to mistrust Western medicine and consider homeopathic options first when
experiencing illness. In a personal interview, Cambodian born immigrant C.H. noted, "many people
die in the hospital and few are healed" (C. Heinrich, personal

The Murder And Robbery Of A Shoe Factory
In 1920, during the height of the Red Scare, a shoemaker, Nicola Sacco (1891–1927), and a fish
peddler, Bartolomeo Vanzetti (1888–1927), were accused of robbing and murdering the paymaster
and guard of a shoe company in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Known as anarchists and draft
evaders, the accused men faced a hostile judge and a public convinced of their guilt. Despite Sacco
's corroborated testimony that he was at the Italian consulate in Boston at the time of the murder, the
two were found guilty on the basis of witness identification and their suspicious behavior after the
murder, and were sentenced to death by Judge Webster Thayer. The trial of two Italian immigrants,
Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, grasped the entire nation. Both men were accused of murder
and robbery of a shoe factory in Braintree, Massachusetts. They were both sentenced to death for the
robbery and murder even though there was insufficient evidence. Many people strongly disagreed
with the verdict as they believed the men were innocent and were prosecuted because of their
politics.

were carrying $15,000 for a shoe company were shot and killed in cold blood by two men in a car.

The Provision Of Health Care Services
English essay 1
Esha K Gogri
Should the provision of health care services in an economy be left to the market or should the state
provide? Discuss with reference to the UK.
Health care services are medical and remedial care or service provided to the population of a nation.
Health care services can be provided by the state or left to privatization to provide. It is crucial for
all to have access to health care services, as it is a basic human right. In the UK, the National Health
Services is a publicly funded health care system. The NHS is financed directly through taxation and
so is freely available to citizens.
(http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/thenhs/about/Pages/overview.aspx) The efficacy of the
government provided NHS service is debatable as it can be argued that the provision of health care
services by the market is a better option. Although the market could provide these services, it can be
argued that the state should as it allows wider access, can positively impact the labour force and
increase economic growth and development.
The most convincing justification for government intervention in healthcare services is probably that
affordable, timely and quality healthcare is a basic and crucial human right
(http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs323/en/). Healthcare that is offered by the state aims
to ensure that the majority, if not all, have access to at least the most fundamental healthcare
services irrespective of their affluence. "Vulnerable and

Tobacco And Its Effect On America
With such an expansive history in Connecticut, the subject of tobacco is just as encompassing. With
roots in Windsor colonial history through its height in the 1950s, sources try to capture it all at a
surface level. Scholars have studied tobacco over time evaluating its role in the community at that
moment in time. Over a variety of sources, overall the response to tobacco in Windsor has been
positive as it serves as both an economic influence and a cultural one as well. Starting at one of the
most recent sources, Brianna Dunlap looks at the entire Connecticut River valley as the backdrop as
Connecticut's tobacco industry in Connecticut Valley Tobacco. Published in 2016, Dunlap captures
tobacco's history starting at its roots in the 1600s through Cuba's reopening trade ports in 2015. This
book serves to establish Windsor's connection with tobacco and how it changed over time to match
the changing landscape around the tobacco sheds.
Dunlap explains how location was the initial reason that tobacco came and conquered the fields with
access to both the Connecticut and Farmington rivers. She states, "for the settlers, this meant access
to trade routes and economic staying power, making the region a modern hub for development."
With immediate access, settlers began quickly to establish Windsor using tobacco as a main export
back to England and throughout the colonies. This platform provides Windsor a booming industry
that allows for development of other industries thus affecting

Henry David Thoreau 's On Living The Good Life
Henry David Thoreau philosophized about living the good life. According to him, the good life is
reached through what can be interpreted as an ever–evolving soul. The ever–evolving soul matures
and begins to tune in to spiritual instinct. Epistemologically, Thoreau argues that spiritual instincts
are sentiments or feelings that act as a life compass and distinguish the metaphysical aspect of
higher laws from the world of being. In order to live the best life, according to Thoreau, one must
avoid being overwhelmed by material possessions and practice economy. Which leads ethically to a
spiritual evolution. In accumulating various material possessions we waste valuable time that could
be spent with family and friends, traveling or expanding our personal interests. On July 4, 1845
Thoreau declared his independence from American society and moved into a cabin that he built next
to Walden Pond in his home state of Massachusetts. After two years, two days and two months he
returned home. By immersing himself in nature, Thoreau hoped to gain a more objective
understanding of society through personal introspection. Simple living and self–sufficiency were
some of Thoreau 's other philosophical precepts. In April of 1992 a recent graduate of Emory
University named Christopher McCandless, set into the Alaskan wilderness, far away from
civilization, to practice an extreme example of economy. It can be said that within the fateful story
of McCandless and the philosophy of Thoreau certain

The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent is an evocative tale which tells a fictional story about the

was a child during the time of the Salem witch trials. The story begins introducing Sarah's family as
they are traveling under the cover of night in the cold winter months to her grandmother's house in
Andover, a town near Salem. In the late 1680's smallpox was spreading quickly and the Puritans of

spreading rumors of Mrs. Carrier, and attempting to start an intimate relationship with Sarah's
brother, Richard. After lying about being with child, Mercy is denied in her plea to marry Richard
and subsequently kicked out of the house. This fight over Mercy's fake child resulted in a hail storm
for the Carrier family. Mercy began to spread rumors of some sort of "witchery" that must be
present in the household. These accusations came at a horrible time due to the incredible success
that the Carrier farm was having. Although all of their crop surpluses came from hard work,
witchcraft became the more popular explanation for their success in a time of hardship. The
Toothakers were quick to jump on the anti–Carrier bandwagon, thinking that the Carrier's land truly

the deficit? Heading into the fiscal year 2005, Massachusetts is facing a record deficit of close to
two billion dollars. Lawmakers on Beacon Hill are scrambling for solutions, but seem to be coming
up empty handed. With the elections drawing nearer and nearer, and local state contenders vying for

For years the tribe pushed for the casino, lobbying state and local government on how the casino
would have such a great impact on Connecticut. Seeing that there were huge profits to be made in
casinos, four years later in 1996, only miles down the road, the Mohegan Tribal Nation opened its
Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville. Foxwoods Resort and Casino and Mohegan Sun have seen not
only enormous individual success as casino since their openings but have provided New England
with thousands of jobs, boost in tourism, and major cash flow for state and local governments. But
why is this important to Massachusetts's residents? Where do we (Massachusetts) fall into all of
this? Can casinos save the state from this economic crisis it is currently in?

The bottom line is that people love to gamble. The success of Las Vegas, the revitalization of
Atlantic City, and the huge success of Indian run casinos are not without reason at all. People have a
fascination with casinos and gambling. The popularity of the casino is becoming more and more
popular everyday. The last few years the casino has become a craze. Las Vegas tourism has been

Puritans And The New England
Throughout fifteenth century England, Puritanism was severely persecuted. Puritans were forced to
go to the Anglican Church where they were also pushed into associating with those that were
predestined for Hell. The Puritans wished to purify the Church of England in a way that allowed
them to not only practice their religion, but to do so in a different location than the Hell–bound. In
1620, the Puritans left England and settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where they were free to
practice Puritanism. The ideas and values held by the Puritans influenced the political, economic
and social development of the New England colonies from 1630 to 1660.
The Puritans valued different things than the Dutch settlers in New York and the English settlers in
Virginia and other southern colonies. These differing values led to political developments unique to
the New England colonies. Before leaving the ship and setting foot in the new World, the Puritans
developed the Mayflower Compact, which was an agreement to form a government and vote by
majority rule. This led to the development of town meetings, eventually taking place in the Town
Hall. Along with an emphasis on democracy in New England politics there was a humongous
emphasis on religion. In the Enlarged Salem Covenant of 1636, it is stated that in public or private,
the Puritans would not willingly do anything to the offence of the church, would bind themselves to
studying the advancement of the gospel, would not intentionally harm

The Issues Regarding Access Healthcare For Rural Veterans
The Issues Regarding Access to Healthcare for Rural Veterans in Montana
Introduction
One of the biggest problems of the current VA administration is access to health care for veterans in
rural areas. According to the office of rural health as of 2014 there were 22 million veterans across
the nation, 5.3 million of them live in rural areas, and 57% of these rural veterans are enrolled in the
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system (ORH).
Over 20 percent of military service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan reported
symptoms of PTSD or depression but only a bit more than 50% of them have sought treatment. One
reason for this is due to the fact that many of these veterans reside in rural areas ... Show more

This means that veterans in poor socio–economic rural areas are more likely to suffer from health
issues that are going to need continuous treatment. This link was made most evident in the veterans
who returned home from service in the Gulf and Iraq Wars due to them suffering from a wide
variety of behavioral and physical issues, including PTSD, injuries sustained from blast exposure,
chronic joint pain, substance abuse, long term effects to substances used in biological warfare,
injuries from working with chemicals and machinery during their time of service (Heady, Gale).
These issues are made worse for veterans living in rural areas due to the lack of access to VA
healthcare.

How Emerson And His Ideas Were Influenced The Weakening Of...
1. Comment on the charge that Emerson and his ideas were a factor in the weakening of traditional
Christianity in the nineteenth century.
Religiously devout Christians regarded his early works as "the latest form of infidelity" due to his
transcendental viewpoint and his belief in nature as an "image in which humans can perceive the
divine." Emerson believed in individualism and the idea that "nothing is at last sacred but the
integrity of your own mind." Emerson's belief in individual authority taught that validity came from
within a person and that the individual had ultimate authority, not establish institutions such as
religion; He focused on the idea that religion thwarted individual advancements.
2. Can Emerson accurately be called a pantheist? Did his radical transcendentalism, with its
emphasis on God in nature, obliterate the historical Christian distinction between the moral and the
natural?
I believe that Emerson can accurately be called somewhat of a pantheist due to his belief that "an
all–loving and all–pervading god whose presence in people made them divine and assured their
salvation." Over the years, his viewpoint changed from his traditional Unitarian Christian faith
towards a more transcendental viewpoint that was a mixture of "Unitarianism, Puritanism, and the
teachings of European romanticism." I believe that his radical transcendentalism did tear apart the
traditional Christian distinctions between the moral and the natural due to Emerson's

The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Unbalance Through The Centuries
In Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, the author reflects the persecution of communists in America
in the 1950's through a recount of the Salem witch trials. It is often presumed that Miller based his
drama directly off of events that were particularly prevalent in the years surrounding the publication
of The Crucible– which was released in the year 1953, towards the conclusion of the Korean War.
Although there was not a literal witch hunt occurring during this time period, America was in a state
of paranoia due to an enemy that was seemingly even more terrifying than witches: this time,
America was looking for communists to burn at the stake. With heavy influences, such as Senator
Joseph McCarthy weighing on him, Miller wrote about the historic Salem witch trials to create a
juxtaposition to the anti–communist delirium that was consuming America in the era in which he
lived. By highlighting the off–balance nature of order and personal freedoms within a society,
Arthur Miller was able to communicate a timeless message, that is applicable throughout American
history, and is still relevant in the twenty–first century. He emphasizes the necessary sacrifice every
individual is forced to make as a means of maintaining our community, as well as the implications,
both positive and negative, that come along with doing so. Whether it be in the form of Japanese–
American citizens being stripped of their rights after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the

The Issue And Effect Of Extra Constitutional Actors On Gun...
Throughout the United States the policy process is the same. It starts with extra–constitutional
actors, which are political parties, media, public opinion, and interest groups. These actors find a
problem or issue and effect policy makers to get it known. These policy makers then use their
concerns and create policy. The policy is then implemented by the bureaucracy in some way. The
people and these extra–constitutional actors then evaluate this policy. Some may like it and let it be,
while others may start the process all over again. According to Smith, "the states share similar
political structures and follow the same overall set of rules, but they make different choices" (Smith,
8). This means that all states have a similar policy process, but that they still have different laws.
This can be seen in how they create laws on guns. Each state has different gun laws and this is due
to the effect of extra–constitutional actors in each state. Extra–constitutional actors affect the policy
process in regard to gun laws in each state differently. In this paper, this will be looked at by using
the comparative method. According to Smith, the comparative method "uses similarities and
differences as the basis for systematic explanation" (Smith, 7). The comparative method will be used
by looking at how each extra–constitutional actor has effected gun laws in each state recently and
comparing them. From this it should be seen they have all created different gun laws in the state

Organizational Systems And Quality Leadership Task Essay
Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership Task 3
A1. Country to Compare Healthcare is so expensive! How many times have you heard someone in
the United States of America (U.S.) say that? Is it the same in other countries? The best way to
discover this is to compare differences between the U.S. and another country. To this end the
comparison will be between the U.S. and Great Britain (G.B.) Access to health care can sometimes
be a challenge. That challenge is even greater for people whose needs are extensive and costly or
those who have special needs and have difficulty figuring out access on their own. This would
include the unemployed, the retired and children. Improving access for these individuals is a very
necessary, ongoing activity. It will be interesting to see how the U.S contrasts with G.B.
A2. Access
CHILDREN:
In G.B. children have full, free connection to healthcare covered by the National Health Service
(NHS). There is no charge for any healthcare services. They or their parents can choose any
hospital/medical center that they wish to go to.
In the U.S., healthcare coverage is available for children under their parent's healthcare plan until the
age of 26. If parents do not have health insurance there are programs available to help bridge the
gaps. Programs like the Children's Health Insurance Program in some states, in other states it is
included under Medicaid and is a federal program.
UNEMPLOYED:
The unemployed have the same access to care as

Governor Lepage 's Administration And The Vermont State
ackground Governor LePage's administration and the Maine State Legislature have been in gridlock
for many months over the proposed two–year state budget beginning July 1. Maine faces the real
possibility of a state government shutdown at the end of the fiscal year if that a budget agreement is
not reached June 30th. The most recent state government shutdown lasting 16 days occurred in 1991
when then Gov. John McKernan failed to reach an agreement with the state legislature about
workers compensation reform.
The legislative leaders as well as Governor LePage's administration downplay the possibility of a
shutdown, and have all stressed their commitment to avoid this drastic measure. However, LePage's
often adversarial relationship with the legislature and battles over MaineCare funding must not be
downplayed. LePage's administration is not offering any insight as to how the administration would
conduct state government if a shutdown occurs; however, it will fall to LePage to decide which
government services are essential and will continue in the event a budget agreement is not realized
and a shutdown occurs.
Like many nonprofits in the last several decades, CHCS has been affected by unexpected shifts in
funding and must be prepared should a shutdown or any other significant loss of funding occur.
CHCS receives just under 80% of its operating funds directly or indirectly from the State of Maine.

Mass Hysteria And The Red Scare
Mass Hysteria "Mass hysteria is a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by
excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness"
(dictionary.com).
Mass hysteria has been part of history since the beginning of time. It happened in the United States
the years 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. In Salem, two young girls were responsible for starting
mass hysteria by showing erratic behavior and accusing other people of witchcraft. This resulted in
the death of over 20 people. Salem citizens were very confused and scared because they were never
sure of how secure they actually were. Another reason Salem citizens were nervous was because, if
their fate was put to the test, it would be in the hands of an unreliable court. Another event that
involves mass hysteria was the one known as "The Red Scare". The Red Scare was a variety of
actions that led to an enduring episode of fear and hostility through the years 1940s and 1950s. The
Red Scare was caused by a series of threats towards America. The Red Scare had many figures but
two that were exemplary to others were Hoover and McCarthy. These men stirred up the
environment with more problems than it had before. Citizens of America were surrounded by many
threats especially their homes being corrupted by the pressure they were surrounded by. Politics
played a very keystone part in The Red Scare because it was the fuel to the fire. Families and friends
were being separated since

His age though caused a slight problem. He was almost nine years of age and all the first graders
were almost seven. The master of the school, John Lovell, found a nice solution. Since John was
excellently trained in Lexington, Lowell moved him up to third grade. John was neither
Lowell’s favorite nor his worst student. By his fifth year, he was ready to begin
“making Latin”. He translated from Caesar’s Commentaries,
Cicero’s Orations , and the Aeneid. The major purpose of the school was to prepare a
student in the liberal arts so he can follow the same path at college. The foundation of the school
was classical languages, but with his mastery of the ancients, he also acquired knowledge of history,
philosophy , and theology. By the time spring came around in 1750, John was finishing his time at
Latin. He had completed the school’s curriculum and was preparing for college. Of course
the choice was Harvard. He was armed with a conspicuous heredity, money, and recommendations
from Master Lowell. John didn’t have any trouble getting into Harvard. In the fall of 1750,
John, Latin alumnus entered Harvard College. At the age of thirteen and a half, he was the second
youngest boy in his class, and he was ranked fifth out of the twenty in his class. College work for
Hancock was practically a continuation of his work at Latin. The emphasis in college was still

How Asthma Fit Into The Healthy People 2020
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airway that impacts a person's and their family's
quality of life. In people with asthma, their airway becomes constricted with swelling and excessive
mucous. This constriction or narrowing of the airway makes it difficult for the person with asthma to
breath (Massachusetts Department of Public Health, 2009). If asthma is left uncontrolled, it leads to
further wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, tiredness, and stress. (Massachusetts Department of
Public Health, 2009).
How does asthma fit into the Healthy People 2020? As it is stated in Health People 2020, the main
goal is to, "Promote respiratory health through better prevention, detection, treatment, and education
efforts." Under this goal, Healthy People list several objectives such as, reducing asthma death,
hospitalizations, emergency department (ED) visits, activity limitations, and miss school and work
days; in addition, increasing education and prevention program (Healthy People 2020, 2014).
Description of the Problem: Community Demographics Asthma is a serious problem nationwide. It
is also a significant problem in the state of Massachusetts, especially in communities in Boston.
However, according to Harvard School of Public Health and NIEHS Center for Environmental
Health, Roxbury and North Dorchester are highly noticeable hotspots (Backus, Terrell, Wool, &

`` The Cradle Of Freedom `` By Nathaniel Philbrick
Samuel Adams once said, "It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless
minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." In Bunker Hill, Nathaniel
Philbrick chronicles how the conflagration of the American Revolution would erupt from the embers
of the past focusing on the great impact that those involved in the infamous battle for which the
book is titled and the battle itself would have on the colonies and their fight for liberties. This is a
vivid bildungsroman for the city of Boston, teeming with new thoughts and ideals, that would face
internal conflict, which would later give the city the title "the Cradle of Freedom."1 Setting aside the
legends of the revolution, Philbrick presents not only a historic event in American history, but also
the subtle, essential moments that are not limited to 1775 but are the underpinning "mechanics of
overthrowing a regime" that "are essentially the same today as they were in the eighteenth century;"
however, focusing on our mythic Founding Fathers, many overlook the true nature of the war that is
present in every revolution.2
Unlike the hackneyed stories told to us as children on the Fourth of July, the American colonies
were not victims to an overly oppressive, malevolent motherland thousands of miles away. In fact
studies have shown that the American colonies were the least–taxed people in the Western world and
that, overall, the claims of English oppression boil down to nothing more

Freedom For White And The Pursuit Of Happiness
Throughout antiquity there have been powerful men and women that with one act change the course
of history forever. The men and women had become unsettled by the ideals of the time and decided
that the only way to get something done is to do it yourself. Whether by chance or choice the actions
taken by those brave men and woman helped to shape the very diverse and free world of today.
However, in history, only one person effected the world in such a profound way that without them a
country would not have been formed and the racial barriers that held generations in chains would
have never been broken. The person was Crispus Attucks and unknown to him at the time, he
became the voice of freedom for white and African Americans alike.
America had been oppressed by England since the beginning of its creation and sought freedom
from their rule. Americans fought and died for the sake of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Those very principles helped to construct the Declaration of Independence, which declared liberty
and equality to every man. As God as the enforcer of these natural rights, independence would be
granted to America and the citizens that lived there. Nevertheless, the liberty and equality that is
man's birth right never fully extended to all men. African Americans citizens were not granted those
rights that whites were given so easily. The same African Americans that fought alongside with the
rebels for independence, would not be granted their own freedom

Nantucket Nectars Case Study

  • 1. Nantucket Nectars Case Study Nantucket Nectars' "Juice Guys" Bottle Formula for Success With Quality Ingredients The island of Nantucket is known for its entrepreneurial spirit. Tom Scott and Tom First caught that fever nine years ago when they started peddling Nantucket Nectars in the island's harbor. Now the self– proclaimed "juice guys" hold the number–two spot in the New Age beverage market. To say the juice guys started their company, Nantucket Nectars, on a shoestring budget would be an understatement. The two Toms built a multi–million dollar company with an initial investment limited to a $170 bottle–cap hand press, recycled bottles and an assortment of fruit. They had no formal business training and conducted no market research. Their business was born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They're motto: 'Ain't nothing them boys won't do.' The young business owners shampooed their share of dogs and cleaned a good number of boats to keep their dream alive. More than alive, Allserve would thrive and expand to include two more boats in its fleet that summer. When the busy season ended, it was time for the boys to return to Brown and complete their education. Little did they know they were on the brink of discovering a multi–million dollar business with only a strong entrepreneurial spirit, a modest amount of money and a recipe for success. They could not know it then, but Allserve would lead them to the first channel of distribution for their future juice business. After graduating college, the two returned to the island of Nantucket to pick up where they left off with Allserve. But they knew once the season ended, the winter months would be challenging at best. "We were looking for ways to make our business year–round, and we were involved in a lot of different things. We were involved in the scallop industry, storing boats in the winter, servicing engines. We even distributed bread," explains First. Only a brave few people dared to endure the slow winter months on the island, but those who did had to stick together. Cook–offs were common on many nights, where Nantucket natives gathered to show off their culinary skills. First would bring the juice. This was not just any juice, but a special ... • 5. Essay on Juice Guys Case Study Analysis Juice Guys™ In the summer of 1998, Nantucket Nectar created a subsidiary of their brand called Juice Guys. This new product was comprised of fresh juice and fruit smoothie drinks that were taking over the West Coast. Within three–and–a–half months, Juice Guys had sold a total of 175,000 items ranging from smoothies, yogurts, sorbets, Nantucket Nectar drinks and fresh squeezed juices. Juice Guys' revenue went up to 91% and they made a profit of $227,000 in sales. Noticing the tremendous success within the industry in such a short time, Nantucket Nectar and Juice Guys decided to expand this new juice retail concept into the East Coast. Their primary focus within the East Coast was expansion into the Boston market. Although this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article stated that, "many East Coast baby boomers were wondering, "what's a smoothie?" (Fox & Rushmore, 1999, p. 4). This statement not only indicated that people in the East Coast were not aware of this new juice trend, it also stated that "consumers' demands and tastes can greatly change from one demographic to another" (Fox & Rushmore, 1999, p. 4); whereas allowing Juice Guys the opportunity to sell more than just juice and also resulting in Juice Guys indentifying between the ages of 18–35 to be their leading influential target market. With having only one of "The Four Ps," (the place), Juice Guys had to come up with a marketing plan to develop the other three Ps; which were of product, promotion and price. Juice Guys knew they wanted to sell fresh juices and fruit smoothies; however, they needed to know if the consumers wanted more than just those products. Also, they needed to find a way to promote their new products and make their prices economically feasible for the consumers in this new place; which was Boston. In order to accomplish this, they needed consumers to let them know what they thought was the ultimate juice shop. Marketing research defined is "the systematic design, collection, analysis, and reporting of data and findings relevant to a specific marketing situation facing the company" (Kotler & Keller, 2009, p. G6). Juice Guys methodology to obtain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Historical Steps Toward Religious Liberty What follows is a skimpy sketch of some things you should know. There were three types of colonies: Charter: The king grants a license to run a colony on "his" land in America. Proprietary: The king gives land and all rights to run a colony to an individual or a group. The colony then belongs to the proprietor(s). Royal: The king owns the colony. Though religious freedom is often cited as the reason for people migrating from England to America, it is too simplistic. It is more accurate to say that religious groups came for their own security, but were not committed to equal religious liberty for all. Religious freedom and tolerance developed over time. Here are some of the important steps toward religious liberty: The establishment of Rhode Island as a colony separate from Massachusetts. Roger Williams, the founder, was a Puritan rebel exiled from Massachusetts bay Colony because he challenged the establishment of religion. When he and his followers started the town of Providence, he guaranteed religious liberty for any Christian. The Act of Toleration. Maryland was supposed to be an all–Catholic colony. That was what Lord Baltimore, the proprietor, wanted. However, more Protestants moved there than Catholics, looking for the opportunity to own land. Tension between the two Christian groups threatened the peace of the colony, so the 2nd Lord Baltimore guaranteed freedom of religion for all Christians and allowed Protestants to hold office. • 13. The Triangle Trade Provided The New World This was an exchange of people, animals, diseases, plants, technology, ideas, and culture between The Old World, New World and Africa that started in 1492 when Christopher Columbus set foot in the New World, thinking he'd hit India. The triangle trade provided the New World (America) with food, animals, and diseases from The Old World. Africa gave the New World slaves, and the New World gave the Old World gold, silver, and raw materials. 1518– mid 1900s: Middle Passage African slaves were shipped to the West Indies and America as part of the Triangular Trade. Many slaves died on the voyage due to the ghastly conditions that accompanied the Middle Passage and others committed suicide. Portugal held a near monopoly on the export of African slaves for a period of about 200 years from the early 14–1600s. The peak years of the slave trade were during the 16th and 17th century, but Africans were forced across the Atlantic for an astonishing timeframe of around 400 years. May 14, 1607: Jamestown Jamestown, Virginia was the primary permanent English settlement in the New World and was founded by Captain John Smith. Tobacco was the main cash crop, and John Smith had to be strict to make sure people worked hard enough to get their food. It was a joint stock company where colonists had rights like Englishmen did. November 11, 1620: Mayflower Compact The Mayflower Compact was the first document creating a crude agreement for self–government in America and has been referred to ... • 17. An Effective Retail Design That Maximize Success For Juice... This problem case details the steps to determine an effective retail design that would maximize success for Juice Guys in the east coast market. After reaching triumph in the west coast market, Juice Guys is looking to expand firstly into the Boston neighbourhoods. Boston consumers had a strong likeness for Nantucket Nectars but the market was different: metropolitan city (year round) versus summer only in Nantucket Island. To accomplish this feat, the company must decide how to target and position the stores given the differential differences in demographic and environmental traits. Furthermore, Juice Guys needs to determine who are their customers, their inclinations for the product and their preferences to a smoothie store. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This poses a substantial financial loss as each store provides a total of $1300 with margins as high as 50%. Alternatively, Juice Guys has only been successful in the west coast; therefore the company will not risk future losses. However, as there is a growing market for healthy lifestyles, this presents a considerable growth option for the company. 2. Expand into east coast and design like west coast Juice Guys currently has a strong reputation in the west coast, which can be carried forward to their operations in the east. They have a deep reputation with consumers for their products, which leads to increased potential of brand resonance. However, as the west coast consumers differ from the east, there is the possibility of Juice Guys products not being accepted as welcomingly. 3. Expand into east coast and design for east coast needs Juice Guys can capitalize on the brand equity of the brand yet design retail concepts in Boston according to local needs. This option will allow the company to replicate the success they achieved in Nantucket Island (modifying operations to open during summer to meet local consumer needs). Additionally, this will allow the Boston market to understand this new product offering. However, as retail concepts differ across the country, there may be the lack of consistency across the brand, which will confuse consumers in Juice Guys' brand message. Critical Issues 1. • 21. Henry David Thoreau : Civil Disobedience "That government is best which governs least," this is a quote from Henry David Thoreau from his well–known book called Civil Disobedience (Baym, Levine ,2012). His famous book was written after he was jailed for a night for refusing to pay a tax. However, the following day his relatives paid the tax without his knowledge and this inspired his book Civil Disobedience. Though Henry David Thoreau is also known for being a poet, practical philosopher and his two–year project at Walden pond near Concord, Massachusetts ("Henry David Thoreau," 2014). His project consisted of him leaving behind the influence of society and living a minimalist lifestyle for two years. In his book, Walden, or Life in the Woods, in the economy portion he illustrates the benefits of living a simplified lifestyle. Thoreau also describes his project as an act of self–reliance and practicing his faith as a Transcendentalist. As well as, Thoreau believes in minimizing one's needs to four necessities which is food, shelter, clothing and fuel, all four of these are readily found in nature. Furthermore, Thoreau argues his view on the benefits of a simplified lifestyle, self–reliance, and his necessities can be found in nature. Additionally, Thoreau asserts that excess possessions oppresses people spiritually with worry and requires excess labor to purchase a consumer good. As the society continues to indulge in buying consumer goods people feel as though they need to own things, this need forces them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Essay about The History and Development of Dennisport If you're like many of our customers, you've been coming to Dennisport for years. Whether your parents brought you, a friend got married here or you stumbled onto our sandy shores one fateful night, Dennisport has a way of hooking you in and bringing you back. In the grand scheme of things, the tourism era of Dennisport's history started relatively recently, but the part of town between Route 28 and Nantucket Sound has a rich history dating back to the colonial era. The first settlers descended on the land that was to become Dennis and Dennis Port in 1639. As a matter of background, the land that is now Dennis was selected not for its proximity to the ocean, but for its abundance of fresh water ponds and springs. It is estimated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an odd quirk of history, Dennis was the one of the first towns in America to manufacture salt! By 1803, there were 24 different salt works operating in town, with vats totaling more than 19,500 running feet. After the War, fishing became the dominant industry of the town, and the Dennisport area benefited greatly. By virtue of its location on Nantucket Sound, Dennisport hauled ashore thousands of tons through the 1800s. You can see this seafaring lineage in the architecture of many of the houses along Chase Ave, Depot Street and other surrounding roads. The "widow's walks" and cupolas along the roofs once served a purpose other than enjoying a cocktail while drinking in a sunset – they were lookouts for sea captain's and sailors' wives to watch for the return of their loved ones. Our Admiral's house was once actually home to a sea captain, and we've incorporated many of these design features into the Captain's and Commodore's houses. At one point, the fishing fleet of Dennis brought in almost 7,000 tons of fish annually, a staggering number for the 18th and 19th centuries. The completion of the Cape Cod Central Railroad was the first truly transformative event in the village's history. The Cape Cod Branch Railroad, later the Cape Cod Central Railroad and the Old Colony Railroad, reached the village somewhere around 1863–65, with the "South Dennis" and later the "Bass River" stations opening on Great Western Road and ... • 29. Descriptive Essay On Nantucketu I am fortunate enough to live on the beautiful island of Nantucket. Growing up here in such a close knit community, has put me aside from your average high schooler in the best way possible. Nantucket is full of incredible wildlife and conservation land that is so unique it looks untouched. Wintertime, when all the summer people leave, you know everybody on the island. It's literally impossible to drive through town without seeing a familiar face. But by the time summer comes the island explodes with electricity that's unlike anywhere else. Massive yachts pack our tiny harbor and enormous private jets fill the airport on the weekends. Having such a drastic change is something that makes Nantucket so unique. Personally, I don't have a favorite season, Nantucket is perfect year round and that's why I feel so blessed to call it home. When the days are shorter and the water is colder the tourists are driven away, leaving a small community, one of the greatest communities on the planet. So close that when someone dies it can affect the whole island. The best feature Nantucket has to offer is how the locals come together and help others in need. When something happens, news travels fast and everyone knows. Having a small community also makes our sports teams closer, we have no choice but to play together. We spend a lot more time together than other teams, every away game we have to take a boat then a school bus to the game. Doing that gets us more comfortable with each other ... • 37. The New England 's New World Essay 1 In order to practice religious freedoms, Puritans fled from England to the New World. The New World represented potential and freedoms that were unattainable in England. The New England settlers overcame adversities and created challenges that would go on to change the course of history. When they first arrived, their inexperience was shown through the death of nearly half their colony in the first year. The introduction of the Wampanoag tribe to the New England colony was such a crucial component to their survival and a primary reason they were able to sustain and even increase their population. The New England colony proved to be successful in establishing a necessary relationship with the Wampanoag, thriving through their protestant work ethic, and ultimately creating a stable settlement; however, they failed when it came to maintaining that stable relationship with the Wampanoag, their lack of experience in the New World, and the hypocritical tendencies of their actions. When the Pilgrims first arrived, they were not hesitant about claiming land and getting right to work. Their protestant work ethic ensured that they worked hard because there was a high moral obligation to fulfill ones duty in worldly affairs. Worldly success is a sign of God's favor, so when they landed upon an abandoned Indian village they took it as a sign from God that they were on the right path and were being rewarded. • 41. Transcendentalism And Transcendentalism : Transcendentalism Between the 1840s and 1860s, the movement known as Transcendentalism surfaced and soared. The Transcendentalist movement began as a physiological movement, which then influenced the literature of those who studied it, including its American literary founder, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Transcendentalism took place at the end of the Romanticism era and the beginning of the Realism time period, but it had its own distinct characteristics. Transcendentalists were known for believing in a new way of comprehending knowledge and the truth. On the foundation of this belief, they built the movement. The movement first began in Germany when, Immanuel Kant, began combatting the Scientific Revolution's storing of facts by writing about the abstracts of existence. His argument, which became the driving force of Transcendentalism, was that each individual has the right to reason for themselves and to fit their reasoning into their view of the world as a whole. This argument encouraged a spark of skepticism in doubt, which fueled the movement. American Transcendentalism was started by Ralph Waldo Emerson and those who studied under him. At this time, "Emerson and his contemporaries saw a nation on the brink of discovering its own voice" (Rahn, 1), which became the starting point for the american movement. They saw it as a chance to break away from England's shadow and forge ahead on a new path of literature for themselves. Works from this time period were focused on self–discovery, forming ... He was an early advocate of American independence from Great Britain, a major figure in the Continental Congress author of the Massachusetts constitution, signer of the Treaty of Paris, first American ambassador to the Court of St. James, first vice president, and second president of the United States. Although Adams was looked as one of the most significant statesmen of the revolutionary era, his reputation faded in the 19th century, only to grow again during the last half of the 20th century. Paragraph 2: Paragraph 3: Born on September 16, 1722, Samuel Adams was born to a family which was well versed in political protest. His father, Deacon Adams, was a brewer, and owned a brewery in Boston. During the 1730's, Boston experienced a severe economic recession due to a lack of currency, or paper money, in circulation. As a result, in 1739 Deacon Adams helped found the Land Bank which offered paper money to borrowers who mortgaged their property. This Land Bank currency was very popular, especially with poor farmers. It allowed them the power to purchase goods from Boston merchants who were in desperate need of customers. The Land Bank seemed to solve all problems; it gave farmers more purchasing power, and allowed Boston merchants to sell more goods. Paragraph 4: Everyone did not fully support this new form of currency. The opposition was led by the Court Party, or aristocratic loyalists who sat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. The New Of Colonial America America Colonial America was the era when America was made up of different colonies; in this case there were thirteen. Colonial America lasted from 1587 to 1770, 183 years long. As said before, there were thirteen colonies: four New England colonies, four Middle colonies, and five Southern colonies. The New England colonies were New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, otherwise known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The four Middle colonies were New York, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Maryland made up the Southern colonies. These colonies were located in North America, along the Atlantic coast. Although these were the main colony groups, the very first colony was founded at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. People settled in the colonies in North America to have a better life, and to escape persecution from people with different beliefs. The next colony, founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims, was Plymouth, Massachusetts. Native Americans assisted the Pilgrims when they first arrived at Plymouth. Two of the Native Americans were Samoset and Squanto, an English–speaking Pawtuxet, who was kidnapped by Europeans, but was later freed. Another colony that was helped by Native Americans was Virginia, where tobacco was used as a cash crop that helped Virginia prosper. The colonies in Colonial America not only prospered from cash crops, but slaves as well. African Americans were brought in on trade ships ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. The Andrea Doria And The Collisions Of The Andrea Doria The night of July 25, 1956 the Stockholm, a Swedish passenger liner, collided into the Andrea Doria, Italian luxury liner, south of Nantucket. The collision claimed 46 lives onboard the Andrea Doria and five lives onboard the Stockholm. This was the world's first RADAR assisted collision at sea (Halpern, 2008). However, the collision was not caused by a RADAR malfunction. The collision was a result from the incompetence of the crew with the RADAR and the overall misconduct of the crew. The fog was very dense around the Andrea Doria as it traveled west at 267 degrees true with a speed of 21.8 knots (Halpern, 2008). The master of the Andrea Doria, Captain Piero Calamai, made all preparations necessary for navigation in fog (Halpern, 2008). This included additional lookouts on the bow and in the bridge, watertight doors closed, extra men on standby in the engine room, and a fog whistle sounding. Once the Nantucket lightship was detected on the RADAR dead ahead, Capt. Calamai ordered course change to 261 degrees to pass about a mile and half south of the light ship (Halpern, 2008). The Stockholm was running at 18.5 knots eastbound toward the Nantucket Shoals lightship at 090 degrees true, in a visibility of about 5 miles (Halpern, 2008). The Stockholm planned to go north towards Nova Scotia before heading across the Atlantic to Sweden. However, the master of the Stockholm, Captain Gunnar Nordenson, believed it was safer to meet the westbound traffic head on rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the Sustainable and Climate Resilient Health Care Facilities Initiative (SCRHCFI), the U.S. has provided tools and information to health officials to better prepare for natural disasters. The Climate–Ready States and Cities Initiative (CRSCI) has funded 18 state and local health departments to improve the capacity of vulnerable communities to deal with health challenges associated with climate change. In 2013, we created the Climate Action Plan (CAP) with the goals of cutting carbon pollution in America and improving climate resilience at the state and local level. Cambodian Immigrants And Health Care Cambodian Immigrants and Health care in the United States Over the last decade more immigrants have traveled to the United States from Asia than any other nationality (Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum [APIAHF], 2015). Understanding the specific needs of this population is important to prevent health disparities. Currently Asians are the only racial group who's leading cause of death is cancer (Tseng et al., 2010). Asian Americans are also more likely to suffer from hepatitis B and tuberculosis. Both children and adults are more likely to have diabetes due to obesity. Many Asian Americans also suffer from mental disorders, specifically depression and PTSD (Tseng et al., 2010). Cambodian patients in particular have "significantly higher physical and mental health problems compared to the general population" (Poitras, 2013, para. 1). In fact, sources noted that terrible treatment by the communist group Khmer Rouge which resulted in the Cambodian Genocide, caused a great deal of mental illness in Cambodian immigrants (C. Heinrich, personal communication, April 24, 2016; Poitras, 2013). Unfortunately, this cultural group experiences considerable barriers to health care for several reasons. Cambodian patients tend to mistrust Western medicine and consider homeopathic options first when experiencing illness. In a personal interview, Cambodian born immigrant C.H. noted, "many people die in the hospital and few are healed" (C. Heinrich, personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Murder And Robbery Of A Shoe Factory In 1920, during the height of the Red Scare, a shoemaker, Nicola Sacco (1891–1927), and a fish peddler, Bartolomeo Vanzetti (1888–1927), were accused of robbing and murdering the paymaster and guard of a shoe company in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Known as anarchists and draft evaders, the accused men faced a hostile judge and a public convinced of their guilt. Despite Sacco 's corroborated testimony that he was at the Italian consulate in Boston at the time of the murder, the two were found guilty on the basis of witness identification and their suspicious behavior after the murder, and were sentenced to death by Judge Webster Thayer. The trial of two Italian immigrants, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, grasped the entire nation. Both men were accused of murder and robbery of a shoe factory in Braintree, Massachusetts. They were both sentenced to death for the robbery and murder even though there was insufficient evidence. Many people strongly disagreed with the verdict as they believed the men were innocent and were prosecuted because of their politics. On April 15th, 1920, in South Braintree, Massachusetts after a paymaster and a security guard who were carrying $15,000 for a shoe company were shot and killed in cold blood by two men in a car. The two men took the 15,000 and fled. • 69. The Provision Of Health Care Services English essay 1 Esha K Gogri Should the provision of health care services in an economy be left to the market or should the state provide? Discuss with reference to the UK. Health care services are medical and remedial care or service provided to the population of a nation. Health care services can be provided by the state or left to privatization to provide. It is crucial for all to have access to health care services, as it is a basic human right. In the UK, the National Health Services is a publicly funded health care system. The NHS is financed directly through taxation and so is freely available to citizens. (http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/thenhs/about/Pages/overview.aspx) The efficacy of the government provided NHS service is debatable as it can be argued that the provision of health care services by the market is a better option. Although the market could provide these services, it can be argued that the state should as it allows wider access, can positively impact the labour force and increase economic growth and development. The most convincing justification for government intervention in healthcare services is probably that affordable, timely and quality healthcare is a basic and crucial human right (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs323/en/). Healthcare that is offered by the state aims to ensure that the majority, if not all, have access to at least the most fundamental healthcare services irrespective of their affluence. • 73. Tobacco And Its Effect On America With such an expansive history in Connecticut, the subject of tobacco is just as encompassing. With roots in Windsor colonial history through its height in the 1950s, sources try to capture it all at a surface level. Scholars have studied tobacco over time evaluating its role in the community at that moment in time. Over a variety of sources, overall the response to tobacco in Windsor has been positive as it serves as both an economic influence and a cultural one as well. Starting at one of the most recent sources, Brianna Dunlap looks at the entire Connecticut River valley as the backdrop as Connecticut's tobacco industry in Connecticut Valley Tobacco. Published in 2016, Dunlap captures tobacco's history starting at its roots in the 1600s through Cuba's reopening trade ports in 2015. This book serves to establish Windsor's connection with tobacco and how it changed over time to match the changing landscape around the tobacco sheds. Dunlap explains how location was the initial reason that tobacco came and conquered the fields with access to both the Connecticut and Farmington rivers. She states, "for the settlers, this meant access to trade routes and economic staying power, making the region a modern hub for development." With immediate access, settlers began quickly to establish Windsor using tobacco as a main export back to England and throughout the colonies. • 77. Henry David Thoreau 's On Living The Good Life Henry David Thoreau philosophized about living the good life. According to him, the good life is reached through what can be interpreted as an ever–evolving soul. The ever–evolving soul matures and begins to tune in to spiritual instinct. Epistemologically, Thoreau argues that spiritual instincts are sentiments or feelings that act as a life compass and distinguish the metaphysical aspect of higher laws from the world of being. In order to live the best life, according to Thoreau, one must avoid being overwhelmed by material possessions and practice economy. Which leads ethically to a spiritual evolution. In accumulating various material possessions we waste valuable time that could be spent with family and friends, traveling or expanding our personal interests. On July 4, 1845 Thoreau declared his independence from American society and moved into a cabin that he built next to Walden Pond in his home state of Massachusetts. After two years, two days and two months he returned home. By immersing himself in nature, Thoreau hoped to gain a more objective understanding of society through personal introspection. Simple living and self–sufficiency were some of Thoreau 's other philosophical precepts. In April of 1992 a recent graduate of Emory University named Christopher McCandless, set into the Alaskan wilderness, far away from civilization, to practice an extreme example of economy. It can be said that within the fateful story of McCandless and the philosophy of Thoreau certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book is written through the eyes of Sarah Carrier who was a child during the time of the Salem witch trials. The story begins introducing Sarah's family as they are traveling under the cover of night in the cold winter months to her grandmother's house in Andover, a town near Salem. In the late 1680's smallpox was spreading quickly and the Puritans of Billerica thought the Carrier family to be spreading the virus and forced them to leave the town. For farm assistance, the Carrier family made a mistake in purchasing Mercy Lewis. Mercy was trouble from the moment she entered the house. Mercy was guilty of stealing from the family, spreading rumors of Mrs. Carrier, and attempting to start an intimate relationship with Sarah's brother, Richard. After lying about being with child, Mercy is denied in her plea to marry Richard and subsequently kicked out of the house. This fight over Mercy's fake child resulted in a hail storm for the Carrier family. Mercy began to spread rumors of some sort of "witchery" that must be present in the household. These accusations came at a horrible time due to the incredible success that the Carrier farm was having. Although all of their crop surpluses came from hard work, witchcraft became the more popular explanation for their success in a time of hardship. The Toothakers were quick to jump on the anti–Carrier bandwagon, thinking that the Carrier's land truly belonged to them. Martha Carrier, Sarah's mother, was already not favored by the church for her vocal opinions contradicting the church. When new cries of witchcraft came from young girls in the area, Martha Carrier was alerted of her impending arrest for being a witch. Martha is adamant about not pleading guilty for anything to do with witchcraft, stating that there must be someone to stand up for all of those wrongly persecuted. Before ... • 94. Puritans And The New England Throughout fifteenth century England, Puritanism was severely persecuted. Puritans were forced to go to the Anglican Church where they were also pushed into associating with those that were predestined for Hell. The Puritans wished to purify the Church of England in a way that allowed them to not only practice their religion, but to do so in a different location than the Hell–bound. In 1620, the Puritans left England and settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where they were free to practice Puritanism. The ideas and values held by the Puritans influenced the political, economic and social development of the New England colonies from 1630 to 1660. The Puritans valued different things than the Dutch settlers in New York and the English settlers in Virginia and other southern colonies. These differing values led to political developments unique to the New England colonies. Before leaving the ship and setting foot in the new World, the Puritans developed the Mayflower Compact, which was an agreement to form a government and vote by majority rule. This led to the development of town meetings, eventually taking place in the Town Hall. Along with an emphasis on democracy in New England politics there was a humongous emphasis on religion. In the Enlarged Salem Covenant of 1636, it is stated that in public or private, the Puritans would not willingly do anything to the offence of the church, would bind themselves to studying the advancement of the gospel, would not intentionally harm ... Comment on the charge that Emerson and his ideas were a factor in the weakening of traditional Christianity in the nineteenth century. Religiously devout Christians regarded his early works as "the latest form of infidelity" due to his transcendental viewpoint and his belief in nature as an "image in which humans can perceive the divine." Emerson believed in individualism and the idea that "nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind." Emerson's belief in individual authority taught that validity came from within a person and that the individual had ultimate authority, not establish institutions such as religion; He focused on the idea that religion thwarted individual advancements. 2. Can Emerson accurately be called a pantheist? Did his radical transcendentalism, with its emphasis on God in nature, obliterate the historical Christian distinction between the moral and the natural? I believe that Emerson can accurately be called somewhat of a pantheist due to his belief that "an all–loving and all–pervading god whose presence in people made them divine and assured their salvation." Over the years, his viewpoint changed from his traditional Unitarian Christian faith towards a more transcendental viewpoint that was a mixture of "Unitarianism, Puritanism, and the teachings of European romanticism." • 118. The Crucible By Arthur Miller Unbalance Through The Centuries In Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, the author reflects the persecution of communists in America in the 1950's through a recount of the Salem witch trials. It is often presumed that Miller based his drama directly off of events that were particularly prevalent in the years surrounding the publication of The Crucible– which was released in the year 1953, towards the conclusion of the Korean War. Although there was not a literal witch hunt occurring during this time period, America was in a state of paranoia due to an enemy that was seemingly even more terrifying than witches: this time, America was looking for communists to burn at the stake. With heavy influences, such as Senator Joseph McCarthy weighing on him, Miller wrote about the historic Salem witch trials to create a juxtaposition to the anti–communist delirium that was consuming America in the era in which he lived. By highlighting the off–balance nature of order and personal freedoms within a society, Arthur Miller was able to communicate a timeless message, that is applicable throughout American history, and is still relevant in the twenty–first century. He emphasizes the necessary sacrifice every individual is forced to make as a means of maintaining our community, as well as the implications, both positive and negative, that come along with doing so. • 122. The Issue And Effect Of Extra Constitutional Actors On Gun... Throughout the United States the policy process is the same. It starts with extra–constitutional actors, which are political parties, media, public opinion, and interest groups. These actors find a problem or issue and effect policy makers to get it known. These policy makers then use their concerns and create policy. The policy is then implemented by the bureaucracy in some way. The people and these extra–constitutional actors then evaluate this policy. Some may like it and let it be, while others may start the process all over again. According to Smith, "the states share similar political structures and follow the same overall set of rules, but they make different choices" (Smith, 8). This means that all states have a similar policy process, but that they still have different laws. This can be seen in how they create laws on guns. Each state has different gun laws and this is due to the effect of extra–constitutional actors in each state. Extra–constitutional actors affect the policy process in regard to gun laws in each state differently. In this paper, this will be looked at by using the comparative method. According to Smith, the comparative method "uses similarities and differences as the basis for systematic explanation" (Smith, 7). The comparative method will be used by looking at how each extra–constitutional actor has effected gun laws in each state recently and comparing them. From this it should be seen they have all created different gun laws in the state from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How many times have you heard someone in the United States of America (U.S.) say that? Is it the same in other countries? The best way to discover this is to compare differences between the U.S. and another country. To this end the comparison will be between the U.S. and Great Britain (G.B.) Access to health care can sometimes be a challenge. That challenge is even greater for people whose needs are extensive and costly or those who have special needs and have difficulty figuring out access on their own. This would include the unemployed, the retired and children. Improving access for these individuals is a very necessary, ongoing activity. It will be interesting to see how the U.S contrasts with G.B. A2. Access CHILDREN: In G.B. children have full, free connection to healthcare covered by the National Health Service (NHS). There is no charge for any healthcare services. They or their parents can choose any hospital/medical center that they wish to go to. In the U.S., healthcare coverage is available for children under their parent's healthcare plan until the age of 26. If parents do not have health insurance there are programs available to help bridge the gaps. Programs like the Children's Health Insurance Program in some states, in other states it is included under Medicaid and is a federal program. Maine faces the real possibility of a state government shutdown at the end of the fiscal year if that a budget agreement is not reached June 30th. The most recent state government shutdown lasting 16 days occurred in 1991 when then Gov. John McKernan failed to reach an agreement with the state legislature about workers compensation reform. The legislative leaders as well as Governor LePage's administration downplay the possibility of a shutdown, and have all stressed their commitment to avoid this drastic measure. However, LePage's often adversarial relationship with the legislature and battles over MaineCare funding must not be downplayed. LePage's administration is not offering any insight as to how the administration would conduct state government if a shutdown occurs; however, it will fall to LePage to decide which government services are essential and will continue in the event a budget agreement is not realized and a shutdown occurs. Like many nonprofits in the last several decades, CHCS has been affected by unexpected shifts in funding and must be prepared should a shutdown or any other significant loss of funding occur. CHCS receives just under 80% of its operating funds directly or indirectly from the State of Maine. In the unlikely event of a state government shutdown, as executive ... Mass Hysteria And The Red Scare Mass Hysteria "Mass hysteria is a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness" (dictionary.com). Mass hysteria has been part of history since the beginning of time. It happened in the United States the years 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. In Salem, two young girls were responsible for starting mass hysteria by showing erratic behavior and accusing other people of witchcraft. This resulted in the death of over 20 people. Salem citizens were very confused and scared because they were never sure of how secure they actually were. Another reason Salem citizens were nervous was because, if their fate was put to the test, it would be in the hands of an unreliable court. Another event that involves mass hysteria was the one known as "The Red Scare". The Red Scare was a variety of actions that led to an enduring episode of fear and hostility through the years 1940s and 1950s. The Red Scare was caused by a series of threats towards America. The Red Scare had many figures but two that were exemplary to others were Hoover and McCarthy. These men stirred up the environment with more problems than it had before. Citizens of America were surrounded by many threats especially their homes being corrupted by the pressure they were surrounded by. Politics played a very keystone part in The Red Scare because it was the fuel to the fire. Families and friends were being separated since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His age though caused a slight problem. He was almost nine years of age and all the first graders were almost seven. The master of the school, John Lovell, found a nice solution. Since John was excellently trained in Lexington, Lowell moved him up to third grade. John was neither Lowell’s favorite nor his worst student. By his fifth year, he was ready to begin “making Latin”. He translated from Caesar’s Commentaries, Cicero’s Orations , and the Aeneid. The major purpose of the school was to prepare a student in the liberal arts so he can follow the same path at college. The foundation of the school was classical languages, but with his mastery of the ancients, he also acquired knowledge of history, philosophy , and theology. By the time spring came around in 1750, John was finishing his time at Latin. He had completed the school’s curriculum and was preparing for college. Of course the choice was Harvard. He was armed with a conspicuous heredity, money, and recommendations from Master Lowell. John didn’t have any trouble getting into Harvard. In the fall of 1750, John, Latin alumnus entered Harvard College. At the age of thirteen and a half, he was the second youngest boy in his class, and he was ranked fifth out of the twenty in his class. College work for Hancock was practically a continuation of his work at Latin. The emphasis in college was still languages ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 146. How Asthma Fit Into The Healthy People 2020 Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airway that impacts a person's and their family's quality of life. In people with asthma, their airway becomes constricted with swelling and excessive mucous. This constriction or narrowing of the airway makes it difficult for the person with asthma to breath (Massachusetts Department of Public Health, 2009). If asthma is left uncontrolled, it leads to further wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, tiredness, and stress. (Massachusetts Department of Public Health, 2009). How does asthma fit into the Healthy People 2020? As it is stated in Health People 2020, the main goal is to, "Promote respiratory health through better prevention, detection, treatment, and education efforts." Under this goal, Healthy People list several objectives such as, reducing asthma death, hospitalizations, emergency department (ED) visits, activity limitations, and miss school and work days; in addition, increasing education and prevention program (Healthy People 2020, 2014). • 150. `` The Cradle Of Freedom `` By Nathaniel Philbrick Samuel Adams once said, "It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." In Bunker Hill, Nathaniel Philbrick chronicles how the conflagration of the American Revolution would erupt from the embers of the past focusing on the great impact that those involved in the infamous battle for which the book is titled and the battle itself would have on the colonies and their fight for liberties. This is a vivid bildungsroman for the city of Boston, teeming with new thoughts and ideals, that would face internal conflict, which would later give the city the title "the Cradle of Freedom."1 Setting aside the legends of the revolution, Philbrick presents not only a historic event in American history, but also the subtle, essential moments that are not limited to 1775 but are the underpinning "mechanics of overthrowing a regime" that "are essentially the same today as they were in the eighteenth century;" however, focusing on our mythic Founding Fathers, many overlook the true nature of the war that is present in every revolution.2 Unlike the hackneyed stories told to us as children on the Fourth of July, the American colonies were not victims to an overly oppressive, malevolent motherland thousands of miles away. In fact studies have shown that the American colonies were the least–taxed people in the Western world and that, overall, the claims of English oppression boil down to nothing more ... • 154. Freedom For White And The Pursuit Of Happiness Throughout antiquity there have been powerful men and women that with one act change the course of history forever. The men and women had become unsettled by the ideals of the time and decided that the only way to get something done is to do it yourself. Whether by chance or choice the actions taken by those brave men and woman helped to shape the very diverse and free world of today. However, in history, only one person effected the world in such a profound way that without them a country would not have been formed and the racial barriers that held generations in chains would have never been broken. The person was Crispus Attucks and unknown to him at the time, he became the voice of freedom for white and African Americans alike. America had been oppressed by England since the beginning of its creation and sought freedom from their rule. Americans fought and died for the sake of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Those very principles helped to construct the Declaration of Independence, which declared liberty and equality to every man. As God as the enforcer of these natural rights, independence would be granted to America and the citizens that lived there. Nevertheless, the liberty and equality that is man's birth right never fully extended to all men. African Americans citizens were not granted those rights that whites were given so easily. The same African Americans that fought alongside with the rebels for independence, would not be granted their own freedom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
