Pan Am flight 103 was just a normal routine transatlantic flight that took off from San Francisco and
was en–route to London for its first layover. The flight took place on December 21st, 1988. Pan Am
flight 103 was on its transatlantic leg when it was blown into pieces by a bomb. The explosion
killed all 259 passengers on board and took 11 lives on the ground in Lockerbie, Scotland. Right

On July 17, 1996, about 8:19 p.m. eastern US time, a Boeing 747–131, operated as Trans World
Airlines Flight 800 (TWA 800) took off and was bound for Charles De Gaulle International Airport
(Paris, France). TWA 800 was heading northeasterly, roughly paralleled the southeastern coastline of
Long Island (Phillips, 1996, p27).
The weather at John F. Kennedy International Airport was clear with 25 mi. Visibility, temperature
was 71F and winds from the southwest at 4 kt.
At about 8:28 p.m., when the aircraft at an altitude of 10,000 ft. the aircraft accelerated from 250 kt.
To 300 kt. which indicated the airspeed was for the en route climb segment. After 13 minutes into

Bogotá, Colombia, South America, enroute to JFK International Airport, New York, after making a

departed Medellin at 1508 EST with 149 passengers and 9 crewmembers on board (Krause, 2003).

2003). Shortly after 2133 EST, Avianca Flight 052 crashed in a wooded area near Cove Neck, Long

JFK (NTSB, 1991). The captain of Flight 052 had over 16,000 hours of flight time, with more than
1,500 hours in the 707 (Krause, 2003). The first officer had substantially less experience with about

flight engineer, had over 10,000 hours total flight time, and more than 3,000 of that was in the 707

highest in customer service (Argenti, 2017, p. 102). They were ranked the highest because they

Introduction
Having been founded on May 30th 1924 Delta airlines is one of the only 4 legacy carriers still left in
the aviation industry since the 1978 airline deregulation act. It is a major United States airline and
its headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia. Delta airlines operates 5,000 flights every day of which are
both domestic and international. Delta airlines hub is located at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta
international airport which is considered the worlds busiest airport in accordance with passenger

Poor management and rocketing fuel prices was a result in its filing for bankruptcy but appropriate
measures were not taken at the time and could have altogether prevented its filing for bankruptcy.
Another weakness that Delta airlines experiences are it's over dependence on the North American
market for revenue. Deltas domestic routes accounts for up to 80 percent of its total amount of
routes served which means the North American market will affect the company greatly if any type
of economical shift was to happen. If Delta offered more international destinations then the 2005
filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy could have been avoided. Deltas poor management team is targeted
for most of the company's low performance due to inadequate steps taken to prevent the company's
downfall. Delta did make a comeback in 2009 when it emerged from bankruptcy but 4 years in
bankruptcy has left a toll on the company and its future is uncertain. Opportunities
Delta is still nevertheless moving on forward and the merger of northwest airlines and delta airlines
is an example of that. In 2008 the merger was approved by the department of justice and the merger

JetBlue Airways Corporation, JetBlue for short, is one of the biggest air travel company in the
United States. JetBlue is the 6 largest airline in America. The company is headquartered in the Long
Island City neighborhood of the New York City, with its main base at John F. Kennedy International
Airport. It also maintains corporate offices in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, and Orlando, Florida.
During it operation, JetBlue has faced up with many tragedies and problems. Typically is the

2. Moving on to the second question '' Describe in detail all the facets of JetBlue's product. What is
being exchanged in a JetBlue transaction? ''. People donate their time, money, effort to book a flight
successfully, they also exchange the opportunity to use service of some other airline to experience

The future of the airline industry has been calculated to increase in the next 12 years at a growth rate
of 2.2 percent per year of enplaned travelers to destinations within the United States. The passenger
projections has been estimated to reach 800 billion by 2016 and to continue growth to one billion by
2027, and reaching 1.2 billion by 2033. This will certainly give Facebook a run for it's money with
the social interaction of the travelers. Albeit, the FAA , several other government agencies,
communities responsible for large hub airports and the airline industry are planning ahead to
transform the infrastructure of our domestic airports. This joint effort will push to reach solutions of
the basic core of our air transportation issues that will limit our capacity to physically maintain the
ability to support these increases. Any loss, delays, or inability to transport passengers will mean a
loss of revenue, not only for the airlines, but the communities and industries this mode of

Summary Delta Air Lines' (Delta) history began in 1924 as Huff Daland Dusters located in Mason,
Georgia. Starting as an agricultural air company, C.E. Woolman acquired Huff Daland Dusters and
changed the name to Delta Air Services. Securing a contract with the United States Postal Service,
Delta was now carrying mail and passengers. Eventually the name would be changed to Delta Air
Lines. In 2012 Delta Air Lines was the 2nd largest airline to provide air transportation for
passengers, cargo, and mail (Wheelen et al., 2015). Woolman developed a mission to be focused on
what would make Delta viable long–term. For Delta to succeed, Delta must remain in the forefront
of the competition. In other words, Woolman wanted to think not only about short–term issues but
to rather look ahead and strategize about what would make Delta competitive far in the future. In
2012, Delta was under the leadership of Richard Anderson who served as the Chief Executive
Officer. Daniel Carp served as Chairman of the Board. Over the preceding decades, Delta went
through five mergers and acquisitions. This left Delta in a strong position as they gained market
share. This was not without some struggles. Being forced into bankruptcy at one point, they were
able to emerge by acquiring Northwest Airlines in 2008. By 2012, Delta had grown to servicing 65

Abstract
This paper examines the business strategy of Jet Blue Airways. The paper will also examine
strategic elements that provide the organization with a competitive advantage. The company's
competitive strategy and the impact of the trends in the U.S. airline industry will also be discussed.

According to Thompson, Strickland, and Gamble, a company exhibits strategic intent when it
relentlessly pursues an ambitious strategic objective, concentrating the full force of its resources and
competitive actions on achieving that objective (p. 36). JetBlue was founded to "bring humanity
back to air travel." David Neeleman started JetBlue to provide low fares and comfort. JetBlue won
several awards for being the best domestic airline. JetBlue determined five important values, and
safety was their number one priority. The four other values were of equal importance are caring,
integrity, fun, and passion.

3.8.3 Embarking and disembarking
In several cases the court determined the place of location by taking into consideration if the
passengers were exposed to the hazard inherent in aviation operations. It has been taken also into
consideration if the passenger was under the charge of control of a carrier or his agent. According to
Godfroid, the primary test should be whether the passenger was under the control of the carrier or
his agent, in addition the activity should be related to an activity of aviation. An injured passenger
who did not board, but is still in the terminal will be considered outside article 17, the same applies
to a passenger who had reached the baggage claim area. Article 17 applies when a passenger was
injured on the steps of the terminal building on his way to board the aircraft and also when a
passenger was injured on the apron by a baggage transport.
According to the U.K. Courts it is important to relate an accident to a specific flight, when cases
about embarking or disembarking are being solved. It is also important to consider the passenger's
location and if the passenger was about to enter or was actually entering the airplane it would create
an article 17 accident. In case an accident occurred elsewhere in the terminal, a consideration have
to made whether the passenger was required to be there by the carrier.
