Baltimore Matt Hafner, the Southwest Airlines station manager1 at Baltimore Washington
International Airport (BWI), slowly shook his head. It was June 7, 2001, and he had just received
the final operating performance numbers for May. Station performance had certainly improved since
his arrival at Baltimore 11 months before, thanks to an intense focus on hiring and controls. Still, he
knew there was a long way to go. Matt2 had been with Southwest for 10 years and had worked in
many different stations, from the smallest to now one of the largest. Baltimore was already bigger
than Chicago and might even overtake Phoenix and Las Vegas, for Matt knew that ... Show more

Crews, furnishings, and spare parts were interchangeable and maintenance tended to be more
predictable. Although there were differences between the early 737 Series 200 and the later Series
700, Southwest standardized the cockpit configuration as much as possible to minimize additional
training requirements for pilots. The single operating platform also routinized cleanup, provisioning,
and ramp operations (unloading and loading baggage and cargo), which helped speed turnarounds at
the gate. Third, where available, Southwest used less–congested airports with easy access to large
metropolitan areas, both to avoid disrupting flight operations and to maximize aircraft time in the
air. In large cities, Southwest often used older facilities, like Dallas's Love Field or Chicago's
Midway Airport, that had been abandoned when new, larger airports were constructed. Fourth,
Southwest offered limited services, specifically no in–flight meals–only beverages and snacks–and
did not transfer baggage to other airlines. Finally, Southwest offered open, single class seating,
which created efficiencies in several ways. There was no need for computer hardware and software
to sort and hold seating assignments, nor for the time and expense of printing boarding passes and
verifying them as passengers boarded the aircraft.3 Perhaps more importantly, the open seating
system encouraged customers to board eagerly to lay claim to their desired seats. Quick

David Neeleman, the founder of JetBlue, had gotten his start in the airline businessin 1984when he
partnered with June and Mitch Morris to run the Southwest Airlines' look–alike, Morris Air.

and in just over one year increasedthe value of Morris Air from approximately $59 million to $130

Herb Kelleher, CEO of Southwest Airlines, watched the growth of Morris Air and its route network
centered in Salt Lake City, Utah, and made Southwest's first and only acquisition to date. Southwest
Airlines was the most prominent success story in the U.S. airline industry , and had always prided
itself on growing from within at a steady rate of 12% to 18% per year. But Morris Air was so similar
to Southwest, by design, that Kelleher believed the merger would be a success. Neeleman and the
Morris family sold Morris Air to Southwest Airlines in 1993, and Neeleman joined

Trends And Current Problems In Aviation: Cockpit Voice...
Problem statement
One of the most scrutinized pieces of evidence gathered from an aircraft accident is the collection of
information contained in the Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder. CVRs and FDRs
paint an often haunting, but frequently useful picture of what occurred during the last minutes of an
accident flight. This is not to say, however, that the recorders are always conclusive, or even useful.
There are a handful of cases where the CVR and FDR tapes have broken, failed to record, stopped
recording early, or not captured enough information to be useful to the investigation. Advancements
in these devices are not new to the industry; however, the pace is slow to incorporate new
technology into current fleets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no disputing the fact that black boxes are essential components of civil aircraft today; their
job is critical to the investigation of an accident, however, safety experts would argue that the basic
capabilities of these devices are no longer sufficient.
Specifications
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a regulatory body, which sets standards for
international aviation. ICAO is broken into 18 annexes, and, comparable to international law, they
are the very basic requirements that the organization's 185 member states must follow. Annex 6 to
ICAO deals with the operation of aircraft and states that CVRs should be capable of retaining the
information recorded during the last 30 minutes of the device's operation. In addition, ICAO has
recommended that CVRs installed in aircraft over 5,700kg with a certificate of airworthiness issued
after January 1, 1990 be capable of retaining information recorded during the previous two hours of
operation. ICAO suggests that flight recorders be "constructed, located and installed so as to provide
maximum practical protection for the recording in order that the recording information may be
preserved, recovered and transcribed. Flight recorders shall meet the prescribed crashworthiness and
fire protection specifications" (Frostell 20). The FAA has met the recommendations of ICAO and set
the following standards for CVRs and FDRs:

Flight 800
Flight 800. The title brings to mind one of the most tragic yet mysterious events in U.S history. July
17 1996, a date most americans won't ever forget. Flight 800 exploded in mid air after departing
from JFK international airport in New York. All 230 passengers died. A bomb planted on board and
a missile fired at the plane are two theories surrounding the mystery behind flight 800. Even though
there has been many investigations that have come up with reasonable conclusions about the
mysterious explosion of flight 800, there are still many theories on what people think really
happened. After taking off from Kennedy International airport, Flight 800 a TWA boeing 747

INTRODUCTION One of the basic questions facing democratic institutions is how to design
policies and make decisions that fit both our short and long term interests. How do we create
institutions that prevent emerging crises from harming our future? This wide reaching co–nundrum
encompasses key discussions on the environment, security concerns and economic planning. The
purpose of this article is to discuss one specific emanation of this issue that has not received enough
attention in scholarship: the question of democratic decision making in times of moral panics. The
ability of democracies to make decisions in line with the long term interests of its citizens is
vulnerable to intense, short term shift in public opinion. There are few shifts more radical than those
experienced by societies in the throes of moral panic – those times where a perceived social threat
creates high levels of concern and anxiety in the population. Though much has been written about
moral panics, there has not yet been a general discussion about its implications for the theory and

China Airlines Flight 611 Research Paper
China Airlines flight 611 was a regularly scheduled flight from Taiwan International Airport to Hong
Kong International Airport. The Boeing 747 flight took off on schedule and departed over the
Taiwan Strait between China mainland and the island of Taiwan. Around 20 minutes into the flight
the airplane obliterated without warning and crashed into the Taiwan Strait. There were no warning
signs to the disaster, and this made discovering the cause very difficult. Engineers began recovering
parts of the plane to begin analyzing what caused the disaster. What they did not know is that the
reason for the disaster, began twenty–two years before in Hong Kong. Until one day, when they
discovered a piece on the lower part of the tail, that led ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was determined that ballistic trajectory analysis was the next method to try and solve the mystery.
Ballistic trajectory analysis is a computer program that uses factors of the atmosphere and the plane
to trace where each object landed. This system is based on the fact that the part that breaks off first
will land in the water first. The engineers used the GPS locations of each of the pieces along with
the weight, speed, direction, ocean currents, and wind to determine which part of the plane broke off
and therefore landed first. After performing this analysis, it was concluded that the tail end of the
plane broke off first, and after they discovered this, the focus of the investigation focused to the tail.
Then one day while scanning over the wreckage pieces, metallurgist Frank Zakar noticed a certain
piece that had a different looking crack than all of the other pieces. When an airplane breaks in
midair, many smaller pieces break off just because of the sudden force of the air acting on it, this is
called an overload fracture. Overload fractures break at an angle, and up to this point all the pieces
of metal that had been found had this characteristic. The new piece that was found did not have this
type of character at all. The engineers examined this piece and found that it had very smooth
cracking, very typical of metal fatigue. Metal

Things are looking up. Roger Nelson felt euphoria from the reversal in fortunes his new job offered.
The job seemed a good fit–comporting to skills honed in the military–for him. Among the perks was
a trip to Mazatlán. More gratifying, he had come into some disposable income. Margarita Mason

Roger's focus remained his head, which despite healing throbbed even with the painkiller

We all get a little scared when we step on to a plane. All we want is to get from destination to the
other without any complications. Four hundred and and sixty nine people probably wanted the same
thing. In 1996 twohundred and thirty people died on a flight that exploded a few minutes after
taking off. In 2014 twohundred and thirtynine are presumed dead on a flight that is still missing to
this day. So the question is what really happened to these flights? In 1996 Trans World Airlines
flight 800 was in route Rome with a stopover in Paris, when it exploded only twelve minutes after

An air traffic controler shares what he saw on that day in 1996 "I thought it was a landing light, but
then it headed straight for the plan, and then the plane blew." (Nita Hiltner). James Sanders, the
author of the The Downing Of TWA flight 800, has spent the last 18 years investigating this event,
he recently announced that the flight was brought down accidentally by two missiles fired from a
Navy Vessel and/or submarine that were in the area to intercept a smaller plane involved in a plot to
bring down the commercial flight . A cover up by the FBI and the NTSB (National Transportation
Safety Board) was extensive, involving intimidation of witnesses and investigators, tampering with
evidence, false testimony before Congress, censoring reports, and numerous violations of protocols.
Some of the government's own official investigators said that the explosions occurred outside the
airplane. They were permitted to testify with that evidence. A piece of metal from a destroyed or
missing plane can tell a big story. Early last year detectives were brought to the attention of a piece
of scrap washed up on the Reunion Island in early July. Could this be a link to finding missing flight

A Wicked Genius Essay
A Wicked Genius There have been countless unnatural casualties around the world, caused by
foreign affairs, extreme ideologies, or even the occasional unfaithful spouse. Being able to infer an
appropriate conclusion to the downfall of flight TWA 800, had been a pressing issue for the
government for a time. Many conclusions were proposed and rejected, elaborate theories were
created and squandered, but one man should stand out like a sore thumb. Ramzi Yousef, the bomb
making mastermind of Al–Qaeda, might have had more to do with the unfortunate incident than
most might believe. A man of many identities, Yousef was at the pinnacle of America's most wanted
terrorists list and he was the center piece of Al–Qaeda. Dubbed the Mozart of terror by Lance,
Yousef grew up in the Kuwaiti oil city of Fuhayhil and acquired his engineering degree in the
United Kingdom. Shortly afterwards, Yousef left for the early al–Qaeda training camps and learned
the ins and outs of building improvised explosive devices. Osama bin Laden began to take notice of
his bomb making expertise and recruited him to be his chief point man on terror. Bin Laden and
Yousef began their plots of destruction early in the 1990s, with plans to bomb the world trade center.
As bloodthirsty and conniving as al–Qaeda were, it is not surprising to consider placing the
responsibility of the fall of TWA–800 onYousef, they had the skills and resources to accomplish the
deed, but could there not be any other explanation?

Electrical Hazards Are Not For Electric Shock
Electrical hazards are not limited to electric shock; those who are not working with or using
electricity may be also at risk. Faulty electrical appliance or equipment and poor electrical
installations may lead to fire which could potentially injure people around it. According to National
Fire Protection Association, approximately 2600 people are killed in home fires each year, most are
caused by electrical faults [4]. Also, electricity or even static could be the source of ignition in a
potentially flammable or explosive atmosphere. For example, in a garage where contain vaporized
gasoline due to a tipped over gas tank, the static generated between the car door and key can cause
explosion if the ratio between air vaporized gasoline is within the explosive range.
Electromagnetic interference is disturbance which can affect an electrical circuit with
electromagnetic induction or radiation [6]. It's a serious hazard especially for airlines. The modern
aircrafts are heavily dependent on navigation and other vital electronic systems. Electromagnetic
interference may cause these systems to malfunction and lead to crash. A researcher from Harvard
University, Elaine Scarry stated that Electromagnetic interference in the airspace east of JFK airport
may have caused three air crashes in 20th century; the crash of TWA Flight 800 in1996, the crash of
Swissair Flight 111 in 1998, and crash of Egypt Air Flight 990 in 1999 [7]. The proof was that both

Abstract
Domestic terrorism is the commission of terrorist assaults in a state by people living in a country. In
the United States, this form terrorism is an irregularity that seriously treated as a crime. This kind of
terrorism entails viciousness against civilian populace or foundation of a country regularly however
not by natives of that country and frequently with the aim to threaten, constrain, or influence
national policy. In the course of recent years, domestic terrorism has been experienced globally. This
has turned to be a threat to the security of common citizens and government officials as they are the
targets of domestic terrorists. This paper examines domestic terrorism in terms of the cause, strategy,
and the global assessment of bias to United States situation and other countries.
Thesis statement
Lately, terrorism has picked up a worldwide character, which threats the enthusiasm of people, as
well as extraordinarily impacts on public security, the stability of numerous states, paying little
respect to their political framework and universal relations. In this way, domestic terrorism
possesses not the last place in distinctive political arguments, and the development of the risk of
domestic terrorism in the United States has showed up on the foundation of intense political issues,
which are portrayed by dispersal of political, ethnic, and religious fanaticism, that exhibits a
generous threat to the hobbies of the individual, society

Dogfight over Europe: Ryanair (A)
In April, 1986, the upstart Irish airline Ryanair announced that it would soon commence service
between Dublin and London. For nearly a year, the new airline had operated a 14–seat turboprop
between Waterford, in the southeast of Ireland, and Gatwick Airport on the outskirts of London. The
founders of Ryanair, brothers Cathal and Declan Ryan, felt that service on that first route had
developed well. They knew, however, that the Dublin–London route would pose new challenges.
For the first time, they would face Aer Lingus, British Airways, and other established competitors on
a major route.

Intra–country service was also regulated strictly. To varying degrees, domestic fares were set by
government authorities, and entry by new airlines was discouraged.
The collapse of European empires and the advent of jets capable of crossing the Atlantic
economically led virtually all European flag carriers to refocus their international efforts on routes
across the North Atlantic in the late 1950s. Heavy and growing demand for transportation to and
from North America made such routes highly profitable, at least initially.
Europe's system of regulation soon came under pressure. A late–1950s attempt to unify the flag
carriers of France, West Germany, Belgium, and Italy collapsed under the weight of disparate
national interests. By 1960, the Economist magazine bemoaned the state of the heavily regulated,
fragmented airline industry. "The basic trouble," it concluded, "remains that the world has too many
airlines, most of them inefficient, undercapitalised and unprofitable."4 Though the IATA introduced
some forms of restricted, discount fares in the 1950s, consumers grew dissatisfied with high prices.
European regulations applied largely to regularly scheduled service between destinations. To bypass
these regulations and to tap pent–up demand for leisure travel, charter airlines appeared and grew
rapidly during the 1960s. These start–ups, funded in part by shipping companies, offered holiday
makers cheap fares on

Essay about Why Athletes are Good Role Models
Why Athletes are Good Role Models
Ever since the ancient years, we have admired athletes and the hard work that they do to achieve
their goal of winning. We idolize them and wish we were more like them. What happens though
when the realization sinks in that they are human too and that some of them do get greedy and
selfish? A lot of athletes are model citizens that you should really look up to, but there are also some
bad apples in the bunch that ruin it for everyone. Athletes can inspire young people to work hard so
that their efforts can pay off, but no one is pure and flawless. Greed does take a hold of some
players, but they shouldn't be the ones we devote all of our attention to. We should look at the

stories that they do the bad ones, we would have a different opinion on the hard working athlete.
Michael Jordan has started a foundation that donates money for research to help physically

Atlantic City casinos, but who hasn't gambled? We are not perfect. Michael may gamble, but he
does his share of helping and works hard for what he has acquired.
Gambling is no crime, so then he is not showing us a negative thing. If parents disapprove of him
gambling, then they should outlaw it because he is not doing anything wrong. Michael, and other
athletes as well, is aware that he is constantly being watched by millions and tries to act accordingly.
There has been a major controversy in the NBA lately thanks to Charles
Barkley and his claim in an interview that he is not a role model, but that is the job of the parent. He
says that parents shouldn't be blaming the athletes if they can't control their own children. Another
person that agrees with this notion is football and basketball star Deion Sanders. Barkley has paid

Book Review: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers Introduction Many have looked at this book
as to be a mysteriously convincing, habitually funny investigation of the bizarre lives of our bodies
after they are dead. For around two thousand years, cadavers a few eagerly, some unintentionally
have been tangled in science's courageous advances and creepiest happenings. They have verified
France's principal guillotines, galloped the NASA Space Shuttle, even tormented in a Parisian test
center to exam the genuineness of the Shroud of Turin, and assisted in solving the mystery of TWA
Flight 800. For every innovative surgical method, from heart transplants to sexual category removal
surgery, cadavers are there together with surgeons. In this captivating, ennobling version, Mary
Roach goes to the good actions of cadavers over the periods from the examination labs and human–
traced dispensaries of primitive and Europe to a human deterioration investigation service in
Tennessee, to a training workshop that involves plastic surgery. She also goes to a funeral directors'
meeting on human composition which was in Scandinavia. In her amusing, unique voice, Roach
expresses the absorbing account of our bodies when we do not have them anymore. With that said,
this book review will provide information as to why this is a must read for everyone. Brief

The Revenue Management Systems : Hotel Operating System Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report tells about the Revenue management systems also known as Hotel Operating System,
under business conditions which may be used in real estate, intellectual property or hospitality
accommodation management. They are computerized systems that help in the management of
properties, private assets, and equipment, as well as maintenance, legalities and workers all through
a single software. They replaced old–fashioned, paper–based methods that were both burdensome
and inefficient. Nowadays, most next generation property management systems favor web and cloud
technology and offer their software to customers using software as a service model.
In a competitive market, where customers are demanding and there are hotels to choose from for
accommodation, it becomes significant from the hotelier's point of view to make an impression
which can attract the customers. Occupancy of the hotel defines the achievement of the hotel
business and looking at this the hotels need to device a system that could help the customers to book
their reservation well in advance.

The Treatment of Arab Americans
A stressful month of work has finally come to an end and a long waited vacation with the family is
just around the corner. The next morning you finally get everyone's bags packed and jump in a
shuttle to head to the airport. When you arrive at the airport the heavy door to the shuttle opens as
you gather your bags and head through the big glass doors to check in. The nice blonde at counter
smiles at you and your family and tells you to have a nice trip. Making your way to security you are
relieved that you no longer have to drag your heavy luggage around. When you hand your family's

Yet, does this profiling spread beyond the airport check points? Are people of Middle Eastern decent
truly discriminated against throughout the United States? If so, is this discrimination an immediate
result of 9/11 or has it been progressively increasing for many years now? According to Steven
Salaita, the author of Anit–Arab Racism in the USA, "Anti–Arab racism has existed in the United
States since the arrival of the first Arab in North America, but since 9/11 anti–Arab racism is, to use
a cliché, America's elephant in the living room–an enormous elephant, at that" (Salaita 7). Therefore,
it is more accurate to think of 9/11 not so much as the beginning of anti–Arab racism, but rather the
turning point of Arab and Muslim American engagements with race and racialization. With this said,
we will focus briefly on outlining the events the led to and anti–Arab American perception before
9/11 and primarily on the American perception of people from Middle Eastern decent after 9/11.
During the first half of the twentieth century the United States saw steady immigration from the
Middle East. However, at no point was this immigration overwhelming. The majority of early Arab

Effective Airline Security Measures Are Overdue Essay
Effective Airline Security Measures Are Overdue As far back as 1955, terrorist threats against the
airline industry have jeopardized the safety and security of airline passengers. This paper
chronologically describes some of the events that caused preventive measures to be proposed and in
fewer cases implemented. The fact that there is a terrorist threat against our nation's airline industry
has not changed, but the methods that these radicals employ to bring harm to travelers has grown
much more sophisticated. The techniques in use by the government and the airline industry to
prevent a catastrophic event have not kept pace. As the events of September 11th unfolded, it
became obvious that the havoc a well–planned terrorist attack ... Show more content on

Terrorist threats and hijackings, many involving live explosives, plagued civil aviation again in the
early 1970s. It took another disaster and more than a decade for the U.S. government to again take a
serious look at airline security.
This push was provided by the June 1985 plunge into the sea of an Air India flight near Ireland as
the result of a powerful explosion in its cargo hold and a hijacking the next month of TWA Flight
847 from Athens. (Federal Aviation Administration, 2001) The FAA ordered U.S. air carriers to
tighten security at major airports in other countries. And U.S. air carriers overseas were under FAA
orders to match every piece of luggage with every passenger to defeat the possibility that a terrorist
might check a suitcase containing a bomb, then not take the flight. Since that date, more than 24
fatal explosions have been recorded on aircraft around the world. Despite this evidence, the U.S. has
made little real progress toward countering such threats to our airlines and their passengers. Today,
only a small percentage of passenger baggage on domestic flights is screened for explosives.
(Federal Aviation Administration) U.S. officials historically have responded to aviation disasters by
proposing flurries of security measures, only to roll back many of them when airlines objected and

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle And The Air Traffic Control System
1. What does the term "UAV" stand for? Indentify two issues that are unique to this emerging
technology. "UAV" stands for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. Two issues that were mentioned in the
course about UAV's were the increase of air traffic and the rights to privacy. There would need to be
another program for UAV's to fit into the air traffic control system or have another program or set of
laws to regulate the routes in which these air vehicles can safely navigate the sky and not harm
people and/or property. Another issue using UAV's is the right to privacy one might invade by flying
over places that is closed to the public. Since air rights are the rights that are also being challenged,
when is it ok to fly over someone's property? Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Major" disputes seek to create contractual rights within an airline. "Minor" disputes develop from
interpretation or application of agreements covering rates of pay, rules, or working conditions.
"Minor" disputes involve controversies over the definition of an existing collective
bargaining/employment agreement. For example, the issues revolving the reasoning of someone
being fired is considered a "minor" issue, which must be resolved through the Railway Labor Act of
1926 .
3. Describe the benefits and drawbacks of the passenger profiling systems that emerged following
the explosion of TWA Flight 800.
After the TWA 800 accident, the skepticism on profiling became evermore prominent. Following the
explosion of TWA Flight 800, profiling of terrorist became a popular idea in the airline and security
industry. Profiling became prominent towards Arab passengers because of recent trending news
about Civil War in Afghanistan at the time and the conspiracy about TWA 800 being a terrorist
attack. Association's created more in depth x–ray machines and a list of characteristics on what
should security officers should look for when having suspicion of a possible threat from a passenger.
This may offend people and their right to privacy as far as how much do they need to strip down in
order for you to let them through the security gate. However, it can benefit by saving a whole plane

industry due to unplanned events that have occurred in the last 20 years. 3 factors/events that have
influenced changes in the commercial aviation industry will be thoroughly investigated. 3.0. The
events: 1. |UAV incident A drone used to film the grand final between Australia and New Zealand

flammable fuselage insulation causing it to spread rapidly. (CBC News , 2013) 4.0. Future
implications: 1. Due to this accident and many other UAV incidents CASA has responded to this
issue by enforcing and creating new rules when operating a drone. This year 2016 CASA has
introduced strict rules for drone operators such as, drones being kept more than 30 metres away
from other people and must not be flown over crowds at beaches or sporting events. (Digital life,
2016). Drones also need to be operated in daylight where the operator can see them and should be
kept for at least more than five kilometres from airports while staying below 121–metre–height
limit. CASA also made deals with major drone companies to include the regulations inside each box
and also covering the importance of appropriate operational controls and procedures covering
drones. (RPAS, 2016) These strict rules are not only because of the increasing numbers of incidents
but because of the increasing number of drone's in the air. Anybody can purchase a drone from fifty
dollars to thousands of dollars making it such an affordable and accessible toy. Because they are
airborne objects drones represent threats to people and property. Especially when faults occur in

Airline Marketing Plan
Executive Summary
1.0 Executive Summary
Puddle Jumpers Airlines, Inc. is a new consumer airline in its formative stages. It is being organized
to take advantage of a specific gap in the short–haul domestic travel market. The gap exists in low
cost service out of Anytown, U.S.A. The gap in the availability of low cost service in and out of the
Anytown hub coupled with the demand for passenger travel on selected routes from Anytown
indicates that a new entrant airline could be expected to capture a significant portion of current air
travel business at that hub.

Marketing; either dealing with channel problems and barriers to entry; or solving problems with
major advertising and promotion budgets. Targeted market share must be achieved even amidst
expected competition. Product quality. Always with safety foremost. Services delivered on time,
costs controlled, marketing budgets managed. There is a temptation to fix on growth at the expense
of profits. Also, rapid growth will be curtailed in order to keep maintenance standards both strict and
measurable. Cost control. The over–all cost per ASM (available seat mile) is pegged at 7.0 cents or
less in 1996 dollars. This ASM factor places Puddle Jumpers in a grouping of the lowest four in the
airline industry within the short–haul market. (US Air, the dominate carrier in the Anytown market,
averages 12.0 cents per ASM by comparison). The only three airlines with lower operating costs
also operate older and less reliable equipment, and even then the lowest short–haul cost in the airline
industry is currently Southwest at 6.43 cents per ASM.

Chapter Summary Of Stiff: The Curious Lives Of Human Cadavers
In chapter one of, Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, Mary Roach talks about using
corpses (cadavers) to demonstrate medical procedures. Mary Roach, joins a facial anatomy and face
lift review class during the beginning of her book, where she watched physicians practice on lifeless
bodies with no heads. Roach gathered an understanding that detached heads can be extremely
intimidating, even for trained professionals. Mary Roach asks one of the physicians, Theresa, how
she handles working with these detached heads on a daily basis. Theresa explained that she always
imagined the heads to be made of wax when she worked with them. Later the chapter one, Mary
Roach clarifies that "objectification is the coping mechanism." (Roach, 2004. Page 56) The coping
mechanism permits specialists to divide "the object" which looks like a living human without having

Controversy is a common word in the average American's vocabulary. Whether it is TWA Flight 800

such man can be seen in the same light, unfortunately persecuted for trying to rescue his people
from the hate of the white man. Malcolm X, due to his rejection of the conventional civil rights
movement, calling for black separation, and his call to convert to Islam still makes him one of the
most controversial figures of the 20th century. Equality in the United States has and will continue to

Trends and Current Problems in Aviation: Cockpit Voice and...

2. About a year ago, I was on Pinterest, and I saw a pin about "26 books that will change the way

In Chapter four Roach writes about the controversial topic of using cadavers in impact studies. At
Wayne University Roach observes one cadaver being used in a simulated linear impact car crash (t
bone car crash) and mentions that the cadaver, UM006, "is helping researchers figure out how much
force a human shoulder... can withstand before it registers a serious injury" (Roach 87). Because of
cadavers like UM006, we have made tremendous strides in automobile safety, and saved tens of
thousands of lives (which could not have been done with crash test dummies). Roach also interviews
Dennis Shanahan, an injury analysis and investigator of the TWA flight 800 crash in 1996. Shanahan
was called in to investigate what happened to the plane, if it was a bomb (like most conspiracies
claimed) where did it go off? This chapter focuses on how the cadaver's injuries can help determine
what happened to the plane. In Chapter 6 Roach studies another controversial topic: using cadavers
for weapons research and ballistics testing. Roach talks about the history of using cadavers for
ballistics testing, and how they are used today, and the ethical problems that come with it. Roach
writes that researchers cope, "with a mix of compassion and emotional remove. 'You treat them with
dignity, and you kind of separate the fact that... you think of them as a specimen,'" (Roach 148).

The National Transportation Safety Board and Aviation...
Overview
The movement of millions of passengers over distances thought impossible decades ago is symbolic
of the modern air transportation era that is characterized by speed, comfort and personal
convenience. The commerce of aviation, both the operation of commercial aircraft for profit and the
development of aeronautical systems, is also an important symbol of national prestige and a
powerful economic force. Safety in air transportation is therefore a matter of significant national
importance.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) plays a central role in the overall equation of
aviation safety. The agency enjoys the reputation of being the foremost independent safety
investigative authority in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simply stated, the Board's mission is to prevent accidents and save lives in transportation. And
although the NTSB's mission is primarily a proactive one – the prevention of transportation
accidents – the agency accomplishes this mission by being reactive in responding to catastrophic
events. In reality, the Board uses the lessons learned from real–world accidents as catalysts to
prevent future occurrences. The NTSB aims to improve quality through the analysis of failure.
Board Membership
The Board consists of five Members appointed by the President with the consent of the Senate
("Code of Federal Regulations Part 800"). This allows the agency much more latitude when
investigating accidents and making recommendations. With the absence of a separate agency to
report to, such as the FAA or DOT, the board can exercise its full discretion without fear of
retribution. The NTSB currently employs a workforce of 402, including office clerks, investigators,
engineers, specialists and writers, making it the smallest federal agency within the United States
government (Goglia). It is the primary

1956–1962  Designed by Eero Saarinen in 1956–1962, the TWA Terminal
was a very powerful building and certainly one that had a revolutionary architectural statement. It
was built for the increasing demand of air travel for the early 20th Century where the majority of
airports were nothing more than plain rectangular structures with watchtowers that had failed to
captivate people's urge to travel. Idlewild Airport in New York was an airport where each airline had
their own terminal and so it was important that Saarinen would design a public building that would
not only accommodate the activities intended but also become a powerful symbol for Trans World
Airlines. The airline president wanted a building that would capture 'flight' and envisioned for his
company "a building in which the architecture itself expresses the drama and specialness and
excitement of travel". The TWA Terminal is one of his best and publicised work and it gave him the
opportunity to express his talents as a sculptor, planner, interior designer and architect. He worked
through the design process in a very cautious way, especially in the design of the exterior form and
the interior atmosphere which both captured the essence of flight and movement. During the design
process of the terminal, he tried to find a way to make people move smoothly through the Terminal,

Aviation Security : The United States
Aviation Security has evolved over the past 40 to 50 years showing the constant change in terrorist
acts in which the security of all passengers, crew, and aircrafts are at risk. The United States
Government must, now, stay up to date with the newest technology for screening passengers and
their belongings. The technology was not available 50 years ago, making it much more difficult for
countries to maintain safer environments in their airports. Hijackings in the United States was a
major shift in terrorism in the country during the Cold War. The 1960s was the beginning of in–
flight bombings as well. The 1980s showed a drastic increase in security from the FAA, but didn't
increase safety concerns after the bombing of Pan American Flight 103. In the 1990s, security
increased but it was still hard for the United States to maintain security. With ever–changing terrorist
threats occurring every year, especially with the possible cover–up of TWA Flight 800 and the
intelligence used regarding the Bojinka Plot not properly disbursed to the appropriate departments.
September 11, 2001 was the hardest era in United States history. The United States began it's shift
from being passive to aggressive. Technology is changing every day, so new security measures are
being put in place at all important infrastructures. Although this change is important, there are still
multiple challenges facing this country every minute. So, from the initiation of the Federal Aviation

2.0 BACKGROUND
2.1 FLIGHT PATH
On July 17, 1996, about 8:19 p.m. eastern US time, a Boeing 747–131, operated as Trans World
Airlines Flight 800 (TWA 800) took off and was bound for Charles De Gaulle International Airport
(Paris, France). TWA 800 was heading northeasterly, roughly paralleled the southeastern coastline of
Long Island (Phillips, 1996, p27).
The weather at John F. Kennedy International Airport was clear with 25 mi. Visibility, temperature
was 71F and winds from the southwest at 4 kt.
At about 8:28 p.m., when the aircraft at an altitude of 10,000 ft. the aircraft accelerated from 250 kt.
To 300 kt. which indicated the airspeed was for the en route climb segment. After 13 minutes into
the flight, air controllers lost radar contact with the Boeing 747–131. The Center Wing Tank (CWT)

Flight 800 One of the most deadly plane crashes was when two planes ran into each other on the
ground, killing 583 people. One of the deadliest plane crashes in the air was Trans World Airlines
(TWA) flight 800. In the report they say that mechanical failure is at fault. Other people say that it
was a missile strike at fault. The mystery behind the crash of TWA flight 800 can be summed up in
two groups, missile hit or mechanical failure. First, Flight 800 was a plane that exploded killing all
230 people, they don't know what made it explode. "On 17 July, 1996 Trans World Airlines flight
800 exploded off long Island. Killing all 230 people on the plane"(Girard, pg.1) Divers spent over
10 months finding 20,000 pieces of the plane and finding the passengers(Schmitz. pg.2). They were

First, the FDR and CVR both stop at 8:31 and pick up the pilot saying look at the crazy fuel flow
indicator there on number 4(Schlager. pg.2). The Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) says that
there is no signs of criminal involvement in their last report before they stopped their
investigation(Schlager. pg.3). There was no sign of cratering, severe pitting as you would typically
find them with a missile or bomb.(Gale.pg.4) The official report says that something caused the
volatile fuel/air mixture in the center wing fuel tank(CWT) to explode(Schmitz. pg.3). The crazy
message, no signs of criminal involvement and explosion of the CWT are the reasons officials use
for backing up the theory of malfunction.
Lastly, missile strike and malfunction are two of the most common theories surrounding the mystery
behind Flight 800. Many people saw a bright light and there was a radar spot that no one knew what
it was. The FDR and CVR both line up with what the FBI and National Transportation Safety
Board(NTSB) are saying happened. What would you do if your plane was about to crash and you

TWA Flight 800 Crash Research Paper
TWA Flight 800 Crash "TWA Flight 800, left New York and was headed to France. The airplane was
a Boeing 747–100 and had logged more than 93,000 miles. This was the captain's first flight as
captain."[Billings, 46] The flight was delayed a little more than an hour due to a problem with
baggage, but eventually took off at 8:18 PM on July 17, 1996 with 230 people on board. TWA Flight
800 exploded thirteen minutes after takeoff. TWA Flight 800 was not in the air long before tragedy
struck causing everyone on board perished, several possible theories have been examined. Theories
about what caused the explosion included terrorism and a spark that ignited the central fuel tank.
People who believed in first theory thought that the crash was caused by terrorists. This theory
stated that terrorist made the plane crash into the middle of the Atlantic ocean. During this time of
year there was recent terrorist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exact cause of the explosion remains a mystery. However, the National Transportation Safety
Board (NTSB) believes that investigation concluded that a spark had ignited the vapors in the center
fuel tank, causing the explosion. "Some people expected the crash that maybe terrorist made the
plane explode and perhaps crash in the middle of the atlantic ocean,Because during this time of year
there was a recent terrorist activities including the bomb explosion aboard pan american flight 103
over lockerbie, Scotland in December 1988. So some people thought that maybe terrorist caused the
plane to crash and explode. But it wasn't terrorism it was a cause of a result of a mechanical failure".

Essay on Judicial Corruption in the United States
The problem of judicial corruption in United States is immense. The Sixth Amendment in the United
States Bill of Rights refers to the right to a speedy, fair and public trial. Unfortunately, our judicial
system does not always maintain these rights. The United States judicial system is very corrupt and
most of our country's citizens do not know how corrupt it actually is. When thinking about the
judicial system, words that come to mind are justice, morality, and fairness. Sadly, these words are
not accurate descriptions of this system. Correct depictions of today's judicial system are corruption,
rigged courts, extortion, and phony trials. Our legal system does not bring truth or justice to our

After filing a complaint with them that includes a sound argument about how you have been done
wrong, they will hastily send you a letter back denying that there is any action that can be taken
against who your claim is about (Sachs). The reason for this is that the lawyers in America are under
direct supervision of the judges, not other lawyers. The Bar is a government body that it is
controlled by the judges. So, the complaints that you are making are being sent to the same judges
who are involved with the "crooked lawyers" (Sachs). With all of the corruption occurring in the
United States judicial system one would think that the police would have caught onto it by now.
Contrary to belief the police are not out there fighting against the injustices of the country; half the
time they are behind all of it. A criminal complaint cannot be brought against a lawyer unless
approved by a magistrate or other public official approves of prosecuting your accusations (Sachs).
This can be attempted but most have no interest in going after lawyers or judges and they will

A Wicked Genius Essay
A Wicked Genius An immeasurable number of brutal casualties around the world have been caused
by foreign affairs, extreme ideologies, or even the occasional unfaithful spouse. Being able to infer a
suitable conclusion to the downfall of flight TWA 800 had been a pressing issue for American
officials. Many conclusions were proposed and rejected, elaborate theories were created and
squandered, but one man should stand out like a sore thumb. Ramzi Yousef, the bomb making
mastermind of Al–Qaeda, might have had more to do with the unfortunate incident than the
mainstream might believe. A man of many identities, Yousef was at the pinnacle of America's most
wanted terrorist list and he was the MVP of Al–Qaeda. Dubbed the Mozart of terror by Peter Lance,
Yousef grew up in the Kuwaiti oil city of Fuhayhil and acquired his engineering degree in the
United Kingdom. Shortly afterwards, Yousef left for the early al–Qaeda training camps and learned
the ins and outs of building improvised explosive devices. Osama bin Laden began to take notice of
his bomb making expertise and recruited him to be his chief point man on terror. Bin Laden and
Yousef began their plots of destruction early in the 1990s, with plans to bomb the WTC amongst
other large icons. As bloodthirsty and conniving as al–Qaeda were, it is not a shock to consider
placing the responsibility for the fall of TWA–800 on Yousef and al–Qaeda, they had the skills and
resources to accomplish the deed, but could there not be any

Essay on Terrorism: Paranoia and the Internet
Terrorism: Paranoia and the Internet
My third edition American Heritage dictionary defines paranoia as "a psychotic disorder
characterized by delusions of persecution or grandeur." Having looked that up, I'm not sure paranoia
is the right label for what I'm about to write about; or at least, it is not the only label. I think,
specifically regarding terrorism (by maybe more generally as well), the idea of paranoia blurs and
blends at its boundaries between propaganda ("the systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause")
and dogma ("a corpus of doctrines set forth by a religion" or "an authoritative principle or belief,
esp. one considered to be absolutely true") and sensationalism ("the use of lurid or exaggerated

one) god. I think our nation is at a great disadvantage in healing both our physical and emotional
wounds and the greater problem of terrorism when our supposed leaders (whether religious,
political, or otherwise) are preaching such frenzied, merciless actions.

Racism and the Ku Klux Klan Essay
Racism and the Ku Klux Klan
Since the early development of society in the United States, racism has always been a divisive issue
faced by communities on a political level. Our country was built from the immigration of people
from an international array of backgrounds. However, multitudes of white supremacists blame their
personal as well as economic misfortunes on an abundance of ethnic groups. African–Americans,
Jews and Catholics are only some of the of groups tormented by these white supremacists. As the
amount of ethnic diversity gradually increased in the political systems of Louisiana and the United
States, organizations rapidly formed to challenge the new ethnic variation in government. The Ku
Klux ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

African Americans who violated the old ideas of black inferiority.
Sworn to secrecy, its members wore white robes and masks and adopted the burning cross as their
symbol. The Klan members seemed to be most active during election campaigns, when they would
either scare people into voting for their candidate or get rid their opponents entirely.
They were noticed for their horrible acts of violence that they called nighttime rides. These attacks
included murder, rape, beatings, and warnings and were designed to overcome Republican
majorities in the south. Due to the fear of a race war, state officials were unable to suppress the
violence. Law enforcement officials were Klan members themselves and even when the law officers
were legitimate, Klan members also sat on juries where criminally accused members were often
acquitted.(Harrel,47–52) The Klan was popularized through literature and film in the early
nineteenth century. Its influence spread with help from Thomas
B. Dixon's The Clansman (1905) and D.W. Griffith's movie The Birth of a Nation (1915). (Harrel,
85) Harrel felt that this eventually "led to the establishment of a new Ku Klux Klan, which spread
throughout the nation and preached anti–Catholic, anti–Jewish, anti–black, antisocialist, and anti–
labor–union Americanism" (87). Harrel stated that the Klan's

The Boeing Company: Strategic Audit...
THE BOEING COMPANY: STRATEGIC AUDIT I. CURRENT SITUATION A. Current
Performance Boeing performance has been outstanding for the past few years. Their Return on
investment rose from three percent to 6 percent from 1998 to 1999, but it did drop to five percent in
2000. In 1996 Airbus claimed 42% of the market share, while Boeing had 64%. Boeing is looking at
falling below the 50% mark. Boeing's profits have been doing quite well. They have risen drastically
in the past few years, which can be seen in the profitability ratios. Boeing is doing fine when it
comes to profitability, even though they have dropped slightly since 1999.

acquisitions. It is made up of nine members: Chairman and CEO, Chief Financial Officer, Chief
People and Administration Officer, three senior executives from Boeing's two largest business units

General Counsel, the Senior Vice President for Washington, D.C. Operations, and the Senior Vice

Bush has been elected as the new President of the United States. One of his goals is to implement a
tax–relief program that will help stimulate consumer spending (Bush). This could increase the
amount of air traffic if consumers choose to spend this unexpected income on travel. This could then
boost airline revenues and allow for more completed purchases on Boeing's commercial aircraft.
Threats The defense budget of the United States has been declining. Since the end of the Cold War,
the United States has revised its military strategies. The Soviet Union's dissolution in 1991 rendered

Why Athletes Are Good Role Models
Why Athletes Are Good Role Models Ever since the ancient years, we have admired athletes and the
hard work that they do to achieve their goal of winning. We idolize them and wish we were more
like them. What happens though when the realization sinks in that they are human too and that some
of them do get greedy and selfish? A lot of athletes are model citizens that you should really look up
to, but there are also some bad apples in the bunch that ruin it for everyone. Athletes can inspire
young people to work hard so that their efforts can pay off, but no one is pure and flawless. Greed
does take a hold of some players, but they shouldn't be the ones we devote all of our attention to. We
should look at the positive things that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nobody is forcing athletes to be good people, we just want some of them to use better judgement.
One person that honestly thinks that ball players do serve a role as models for the kids and should
live up to it is Vincent Lamont Baker of the Milwaukee Bucks. He is the best all round player on the
team and one of the most versatile in the league. He is said to be the symbol of what the NBA is
really trying to sell: "good players who are even better people." An excellent role model for black
youth is Dave Bing. He was elected into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1989 and is now the CEO of Bing
Steel, a firm that had $61 million in sales in 1991and was ranked tenth in the United States among
black–owned industrial and service companies. He now donates a lot of his time and money to
various charities. Football player Orlando Pace sits with 6th grade children in their school library
and helps them read. His message was "Yes, I have had some athletic ability and talent, but studying
is what's really important." He also said that he doesn't think of himself as a role model, but he is
doing the right thing because he knows that there are people looking up to him and he wants to show
them something positive. I couldn't believe all of the things he does for children and then says that
he doesn't think of himself as a role model. Most of these players are just doing their job. But he

We Didn't Start the Fire
Society has been molded by a variety of influences upon it. Looking back in time, society has
changed drastically within the recent years, and continues to change as time moves forward. Time
creates history, and history is the recording of events that have brought an impact upon society. In
the year of nineteen eighty–nine, Billy Joel, a musician, released the song, "We Didn't Start The
Fire." The lyrics of this song name events that the majority of people knew and talked about in the
time period those events happened. The musician put forty years of history into a song, starting from
the year nineteen forty–nine of which he was born, and ending at nineteen eighty–nine when the
song was written. The term "fire" is metaphorically used for ... Show more content on

The trip around the world continued the "space race" between countries. There were other trips into
space later on. One of the major space trips years after Glenn was the "man on the moon." On July
twentieth, nineteen sixty–nine, Neil Armstrong, an American astronaut was the first man to walk on
the moon. His famous words are "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Space
journeys continued the years following the "man on the moon." Machines are used to record space
by taking pictures in order to obtain more information concerning space.
The Berlin Wall had a major impact on humanity's views on how society should be ruled. Berlin is
the capital of Germany. After the ending of WWII, Berlin was split up into East Berlin, and West
Berlin. East Berlin was communist, suffered from the repressions of the Communist Party. West
Berlin had a better lifestyle, and had financial aid from the United States. From the years between
nineteen forty–nine to nineteen sixty–one, approximately 2.5 million people from East Berlin
escaped to West Berlin. This toll included skilled workers, professionals, and intellectuals. Because
of the loss of these people, the economy in East Berlin was threatened. On August twelve–thirteen,
nineteen sixty–one, the Berlin was built in order to stop the people of East Berlin from fleeing. The
Berlin wall was a major point during the Cold War, and many opposed it. It gave another reason to
detest communism.

Southwest case 9–602–156 JUNE 21, 2002 ROGELIO OLIVA JODY HOFFER GITTELL Southwest Airlines in Baltimore Matt Hafner, the Southwest Airlines station manager1 at Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI), slowly shook his head. It was June 7, 2001, and he had just received the final operating performance numbers for May. Station performance had certainly improved since his arrival at Baltimore 11 months before, thanks to an intense focus on hiring and controls. Still, he knew there was a long way to go. Matt2 had been with Southwest for 10 years and had worked in many different stations, from the smallest to now one of the largest. Baltimore was already bigger than Chicago and might even overtake Phoenix and Las Vegas, for Matt knew that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Crews, furnishings, and spare parts were interchangeable and maintenance tended to be more predictable. Although there were differences between the early 737 Series 200 and the later Series 700, Southwest standardized the cockpit configuration as much as possible to minimize additional training requirements for pilots. The single operating platform also routinized cleanup, provisioning, and ramp operations (unloading and loading baggage and cargo), which helped speed turnarounds at the gate. Third, where available, Southwest used less–congested airports with easy access to large metropolitan areas, both to avoid disrupting flight operations and to maximize aircraft time in the air. In large cities, Southwest often used older facilities, like Dallas's Love Field or Chicago's Midway Airport, that had been abandoned when new, larger airports were constructed. Fourth, Southwest offered limited services, specifically no in–flight meals–only beverages and snacks–and did not transfer baggage to other airlines. Finally, Southwest offered open, single class seating, which created efficiencies in several ways. There was no need for computer hardware and software to sort and hold seating assignments, nor for the time and expense of printing boarding passes and verifying them as passengers boarded the aircraft.3 Perhaps more importantly, the open seating system encouraged customers to board eagerly to lay claim to their desired seats. CVRs and FDRs paint an often haunting, but frequently useful picture of what occurred during the last minutes of an accident flight. This is not to say, however, that the recorders are always conclusive, or even useful. There are a handful of cases where the CVR and FDR tapes have broken, failed to record, stopped recording early, or not captured enough information to be useful to the investigation. Advancements in these devices are not new to the industry; however, the pace is slow to incorporate new technology into current fleets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no disputing the fact that black boxes are essential components of civil aircraft today; their job is critical to the investigation of an accident, however, safety experts would argue that the basic capabilities of these devices are no longer sufficient. Specifications The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a regulatory body, which sets standards for international aviation. ICAO is broken into 18 annexes, and, comparable to international law, they are the very basic requirements that the organization's 185 member states must follow. Annex 6 to ICAO deals with the operation of aircraft and states that CVRs should be capable of retaining the information recorded during the last 30 minutes of the device's operation. In addition, ICAO has recommended that CVRs installed in aircraft over 5,700kg with a certificate of airworthiness issued after January 1, 1990 be capable of retaining information recorded during the previous two hours of operation. ICAO suggests that flight recorders be "constructed, located and installed so as to provide maximum practical protection for the recording in order that the recording information may be preserved, recovered and transcribed. Flight recorders shall meet the prescribed crashworthiness and fire protection specifications" (Frostell 20). How do we create institutions that prevent emerging crises from harming our future? This wide reaching co–nundrum encompasses key discussions on the environment, security concerns and economic planning. The purpose of this article is to discuss one specific emanation of this issue that has not received enough attention in scholarship: the question of democratic decision making in times of moral panics. The ability of democracies to make decisions in line with the long term interests of its citizens is vulnerable to intense, short term shift in public opinion. There are few shifts more radical than those experienced by societies in the throes of moral panic – those times where a perceived social threat creates high levels of concern and anxiety in the population. The Boeing 747 flight took off on schedule and departed over the Taiwan Strait between China mainland and the island of Taiwan. Around 20 minutes into the flight the airplane obliterated without warning and crashed into the Taiwan Strait. There were no warning signs to the disaster, and this made discovering the cause very difficult. Engineers began recovering parts of the plane to begin analyzing what caused the disaster. What they did not know is that the reason for the disaster, began twenty–two years before in Hong Kong. Until one day, when they discovered a piece on the lower part of the tail, that led ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was determined that ballistic trajectory analysis was the next method to try and solve the mystery. Ballistic trajectory analysis is a computer program that uses factors of the atmosphere and the plane to trace where each object landed. This system is based on the fact that the part that breaks off first will land in the water first. The engineers used the GPS locations of each of the pieces along with the weight, speed, direction, ocean currents, and wind to determine which part of the plane broke off and therefore landed first. After performing this analysis, it was concluded that the tail end of the plane broke off first, and after they discovered this, the focus of the investigation focused to the tail. Then one day while scanning over the wreckage pieces, metallurgist Frank Zakar noticed a certain piece that had a different looking crack than all of the other pieces. When an airplane breaks in midair, many smaller pieces break off just because of the sudden force of the air acting on it, this is called an overload fracture. Overload fractures break at an angle, and up to this point all the pieces of metal that had been found had this characteristic. The new piece that was found did not have this type of character at all. The engineers examined this piece and found that it had very smooth cracking, very typical of metal fatigue. Metal ... Being able to infer an appropriate conclusion to the downfall of flight TWA 800, had been a pressing issue for the government for a time. Many conclusions were proposed and rejected, elaborate theories were created and squandered, but one man should stand out like a sore thumb. Ramzi Yousef, the bomb making mastermind of Al–Qaeda, might have had more to do with the unfortunate incident than most might believe. A man of many identities, Yousef was at the pinnacle of America's most wanted terrorists list and he was the center piece of Al–Qaeda. Dubbed the Mozart of terror by Lance, Yousef grew up in the Kuwaiti oil city of Fuhayhil and acquired his engineering degree in the United Kingdom. Shortly afterwards, Yousef left for the early al–Qaeda training camps and learned the ins and outs of building improvised explosive devices. Osama bin Laden began to take notice of his bomb making expertise and recruited him to be his chief point man on terror. Bin Laden and Yousef began their plots of destruction early in the 1990s, with plans to bomb the world trade center. As bloodthirsty and conniving as al–Qaeda were, it is not surprising to consider placing the responsibility of the fall of TWA–800 onYousef, they had the skills and resources to accomplish the deed, but could there not be any other explanation? ... Faulty electrical appliance or equipment and poor electrical installations may lead to fire which could potentially injure people around it. According to National Fire Protection Association, approximately 2600 people are killed in home fires each year, most are caused by electrical faults [4]. Also, electricity or even static could be the source of ignition in a potentially flammable or explosive atmosphere. For example, in a garage where contain vaporized gasoline due to a tipped over gas tank, the static generated between the car door and key can cause explosion if the ratio between air vaporized gasoline is within the explosive range. Electromagnetic interference is disturbance which can affect an electrical circuit with electromagnetic induction or radiation [6]. It's a serious hazard especially for airlines. The modern aircrafts are heavily dependent on navigation and other vital electronic systems. Electromagnetic interference may cause these systems to malfunction and lead to crash. A researcher from Harvard University, Elaine Scarry stated that Electromagnetic interference in the airspace east of JFK airport may have caused three air crashes in 20th century; the crash of TWA Flight 800 in1996, the crash of Swissair Flight 111 in 1998, and crash of Egypt Air Flight 990 in 1999 [7]. November 21, 2007 Dogfight over Europe: Ryanair (A) In April, 1986, the upstart Irish airline Ryanair announced that it would soon commence service between Dublin and London. For nearly a year, the new airline had operated a 14–seat turboprop between Waterford, in the southeast of Ireland, and Gatwick Airport on the outskirts of London. The founders of Ryanair, brothers Cathal and Declan Ryan, felt that service on that first route had developed well. They knew, however, that the Dublin–London route would pose new challenges. Intra–country service was also regulated strictly. To varying degrees, domestic fares were set by government authorities, and entry by new airlines was discouraged. The collapse of European empires and the advent of jets capable of crossing the Atlantic economically led virtually all European flag carriers to refocus their international efforts on routes across the North Atlantic in the late 1950s. Heavy and growing demand for transportation to and from North America made such routes highly profitable, at least initially. Europe's system of regulation soon came under pressure. A late–1950s attempt to unify the flag carriers of France, West Germany, Belgium, and Italy collapsed under the weight of disparate national interests. By 1960, the Economist magazine bemoaned the state of the heavily regulated, fragmented airline industry. "The basic trouble," it concluded, "remains that the world has too many airlines, most of them inefficient, undercapitalised and unprofitable."4 Though the IATA introduced some forms of restricted, discount fares in the 1950s, consumers grew dissatisfied with high prices. European regulations applied largely to regularly scheduled service between destinations. To bypass these regulations and to tap pent–up demand for leisure travel, charter airlines appeared and grew rapidly during the 1960s. Terrorist threats and hijackings, many involving live explosives, plagued civil aviation again in the early 1970s. It took another disaster and more than a decade for the U.S. government to again take a serious look at airline security. This push was provided by the June 1985 plunge into the sea of an Air India flight near Ireland as the result of a powerful explosion in its cargo hold and a hijacking the next month of TWA Flight 847 from Athens. (Federal Aviation Administration, 2001) The FAA ordered U.S. air carriers to tighten security at major airports in other countries. And U.S. air carriers overseas were under FAA orders to match every piece of luggage with every passenger to defeat the possibility that a terrorist might check a suitcase containing a bomb, then not take the flight. Since that date, more than 24 fatal explosions have been recorded on aircraft around the world. Despite this evidence, the U.S. has made little real progress toward countering such threats to our airlines and their passengers. Today, only a small percentage of passenger baggage on domestic flights is screened for explosives. Due to this accident and many other UAV incidents CASA has responded to this issue by enforcing and creating new rules when operating a drone. This year 2016 CASA has introduced strict rules for drone operators such as, drones being kept more than 30 metres away from other people and must not be flown over crowds at beaches or sporting events. (Digital life, 2016). Drones also need to be operated in daylight where the operator can see them and should be kept for at least more than five kilometres from airports while staying below 121–metre–height limit. CASA also made deals with major drone companies to include the regulations inside each box and also covering the importance of appropriate operational controls and procedures covering drones. (RPAS, 2016) These strict rules are not only because of the increasing numbers of incidents but because of the increasing number of drone's in the air. It is being organized to take advantage of a specific gap in the short–haul domestic travel market. The gap exists in low cost service out of Anytown, U.S.A. The gap in the availability of low cost service in and out of the Anytown hub coupled with the demand for passenger travel on selected routes from Anytown indicates that a new entrant airline could be expected to capture a significant portion of current air travel business at that hub. Chapter Summary Of Stiff: The Curious Lives Of Human Cadavers In chapter one of, Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, Mary Roach talks about using corpses (cadavers) to demonstrate medical procedures. Mary Roach, joins a facial anatomy and face lift review class during the beginning of her book, where she watched physicians practice on lifeless bodies with no heads. Roach gathered an understanding that detached heads can be extremely intimidating, even for trained professionals. Mary Roach asks one of the physicians, Theresa, how she handles working with these detached heads on a daily basis. Theresa explained that she always imagined the heads to be made of wax when she worked with them. Later the chapter one, Mary Roach clarifies that "objectification is the coping mechanism." Whether it is TWA Flight 800 or Nixon, these people and events are certainly regarded in a special category of their own. One such man can be seen in the same light, unfortunately persecuted for trying to rescue his people from the hate of the white man. Malcolm X, due to his rejection of the conventional civil rights movement, calling for black separation, and his call to convert to Islam still makes him one of the most controversial figures of the 20th century. Problem statement One of the most scrutinized pieces of evidence gathered from an aircraft accident is the collection of information contained in the Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder. In Chapter four Roach writes about the controversial topic of using cadavers in impact studies. At Wayne University Roach observes one cadaver being used in a simulated linear impact car crash (t bone car crash) and mentions that the cadaver, UM006, "is helping researchers figure out how much force a human shoulder... can withstand before it registers a serious injury" (Roach 87). Because of cadavers like UM006, we have made tremendous strides in automobile safety, and saved tens of thousands of lives (which could not have been done with crash test dummies). Roach also interviews Dennis Shanahan, an injury analysis and investigator of the TWA flight 800 crash in 1996. Shanahan was called in to investigate what happened to the plane, if it was a bomb (like most conspiracies claimed) where did it go off? This chapter focuses on how the cadaver's injuries can help determine what happened to the plane. In Chapter 6 Roach studies another controversial topic: using cadavers for weapons research and ballistics testing. Roach talks about the history of using cadavers for ballistics testing, and how they are used today, and the ethical problems that come with it. Roach writes that researchers cope, "with a mix of compassion and emotional remove. It was built for the increasing demand of air travel for the early 20th Century where the majority of airports were nothing more than plain rectangular structures with watchtowers that had failed to captivate people's urge to travel. Idlewild Airport in New York was an airport where each airline had their own terminal and so it was important that Saarinen would design a public building that would not only accommodate the activities intended but also become a powerful symbol for Trans World Airlines. The airline president wanted a building that would capture 'flight' and envisioned for his company "a building in which the architecture itself expresses the drama and specialness and excitement of travel". The TWA Terminal is one of his best and publicised work and it gave him the opportunity to express his talents as a sculptor, planner, interior designer and architect. He worked through the design process in a very cautious way, especially in the design of the exterior form and the interior atmosphere which both captured the essence of flight and movement. Being able to infer a suitable conclusion to the downfall of flight TWA 800 had been a pressing issue for American officials. Many conclusions were proposed and rejected, elaborate theories were created and squandered, but one man should stand out like a sore thumb. Ramzi Yousef, the bomb making mastermind of Al–Qaeda, might have had more to do with the unfortunate incident than the mainstream might believe. A man of many identities, Yousef was at the pinnacle of America's most wanted terrorist list and he was the MVP of Al–Qaeda.
