Grammar Lesson 1:
1. When the alarm went off at 6:00 a.m.
2. I fixed eggs and bacon for breakfast.
3. Seen the movie Eclipse?
4. Don't run in the halls!
Which ones are sentences? Why?
*A sentence is a word group that contains a
subject and a verb that expresses a complete
thought.
*Class writes a complete sentence.
*Student writes a complete sentence in Journal.
Share it with members of your group. Each group
share one sentence with the class.
Grammar Lesson 2:
1. _________________ found a cool bicycle at the garage sale.
2. Laughing and running down the street were ____________.
What is missing in these sentences?
A subject tells whom or what the sentence is about.
To find the subject, ask who or what is doing something or
about whom or what something is being said.
The simple subject is the main word or word group that tells
whom or what the sentence is about.
Class: Identify the simple subject. To prepare for the beginning
of school, Mrs. Debo painted her room.
Student: Write a complete sentence in your journal and
underline the subject. Share it with your group. Your group
share one sentence with the class.

What's missing in these sentences?
The predicate of a sentence tells something about the subject.
The simple predicate or verb, is the main word or word group
that tells something about the subject.
Class: Identify the complete predicate in this sentence.
Our English class is reading the novel Comfort.
Identify the simple predicate or verb in the sentence.
Student: Write a complete sentence in your Journal. Underline
the complete predicate once. Circle the simple predicate or
verb. Share it with your group. Group share one sentence with
the class.

A compound subject consists of two or more connected subjects
that have the same verb.

A compound verb consists of two or more verbs that have the same
subject.
Class: Identify the compound verb in this sentence.

What is the purpose of these sentences?

A sentence may be classified, depending on its purpose, as
declarative, imperative, interrogative, or exclamatory.
