Japan As A Collectivist Country
Many westerners view Japan as a collectivist country that differs greatly when comparing it to western countries such as the United States in cultural
aspects. One may explain that Confucianism plays a key role in how the Japanese society functions. Others may argue that Japan is distinctively
different and no other country share similar traits. People can see the evidence of Japan being a collectivistic country by comparing Japan to other
countries in the concept of high–context society versus low–context society. How do Japan and other countries differ in culture? Japan is regarded as a
high–context society and on the other hand the United States is considered a low–context society. In high–context societies, people often value
relationships more than partnership. The virtue of "harmony" is the main emphasis in high–context societies. In the United States students are often
encouraged to know how to form an argument and debate with other people to prove their opinion and persuade other people to agree. On the
contrary, Japanese students learn about teamwork through different task and recognize oneself as a member of the society. In Japan, people discourage
competition and encourage cooperation. Unlike the United States where children are often praised for being unique and special, Japan tends to prefer
conformity and children are advised to be just like everyone else in the group. Although it has changed throughout the past decade, before all most all

Why Japan's Education System
In 8000 BCE, a small nation emerged in East Asia, in the Pacific Ocean. It has grown to an archipelago made out of over 6,000 islands, with 4 main
islands. These islands have a tropical climate in the south and a temperate climate in the north. The land is mountainous and rocky, with volcanic or
seismic activity almost every day. It began as a place full of hunters and gathers. Then in 300 BCE, rice production rose and allowed these groups to
form a conglomerate nation known as Japan. After the nation was formed, Japan went through a multitude of wars (both civil and foreign), movement
of the capital city, changes in governmental systems, rise and fall of dynasties, creation or introduction of religions, and improvement of technology and

The people of Japan work carefully to be successful in school, excel in the workplace, and to keep traditions in practice, and that is why the Japanese
are industrious. The term industrious can describe Japan's education system for a few of reasons. The foremost reason is that Japan is diligent when
educating their students. During primary education, what Americans consider elementary education, the students are grouped into four–person teams.
In each group, the students are paired by strengthens and weaknesses, in hopes that they can learn from and help each other to further their education.
The Japanese education system is also diligent throughout their secondary education, which includes their middle and high school levels. They
meticulously select what classes the students take, to ensure that each student is taking the needed academic courses, while also making sure they are
taking an arts course. These are required because the Japanese believe that a mix of academics and arts creates a well–rounded citizen.
The Japanese education system can be categorized as industrious also because of the work ethics that are imparted during the students' years. Japan
has a highly regarded school system that pushes its students to excel. It does this by giving them the motivation to complete tasks they are given and
more. This is evident in the widely used "cram school", which is instruction after the normal school day to prepare for exams. The Japanese education

Challenges of Interpersonal Communication Within the...
Challenges of Interpersonal Communication within the Japanese Culture
One way of defining interpersonal communication is to compare it to other forms of communication. In so doing, one would examine how many
people are involved, how physically close they are to one another, how many sensory channels are used, and the feedback provided. Interpersonal
communication differs from other forms of communication in that there are few participants involved, the people who interact are in close physical
proximity to each other, there are many sensory channels used, and feedback is immediate. An important point to note about the contextual definition
is that it does not take into account the relationship between the people who are interacting with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the emperor retains his throne as a symbol of national unity, power generally rests in networks of powerful politicians, bureaucrats, and
business executives. The economy experienced a major slowdown starting in the 1990s following three decades of unprecedented growth, but Japan
still remains a major economic power both in Asia and globally. In 2005, Japan began a two–year term as a non–permanent member of the UN
Security Council (De Mente, 2009).
"Masculine cultures focus on achievement, competitiveness, strength, and material success (West, R. & Turner, L., 2006)." Japaneseculture follows the
masculine dimension. What material possessions a person has and what a person has achieved hold the most value. "Business is strictly business, and
everyone is expected to do whatever the boss wants of them" (M. Stonecipher, personal communication, Oct. 25, 2009). All workers are expected to
stay until the boss leaves (personal communication, Oct. 25, 2009). "The Japanese live to work in essence and everything is about business"
(Masculinity in Japan, 2008). "But both men and women place high importance on achievement, material success, and learn to be ambitious and
competitive (Masculinity in Japan, 2008)." In the home, the man is to be respected. "Women and men have very different roles in society. For
example, men are understood to be dominant and tough while women are generally softer and more emotional" (Masculinity in

The Cultural Value Model Of Japan And Japan
The cultural value model that is being used in this outline is Hofstede's Model. Although Japan and America have quite a few economic and
technologic similarities, they contrast in many ways. The biggest difference between these two countries is Individualism vs. Collectivism. Hofstede
himself finds that both of these cultures differ significantly on most these diminesions (Shah).
PART 1: Compare and Contrast Cultural Values
Power Distance
Power distance in cultures refers to the way that power is distributed between people. It can be measured by the extent of how individuals within that
culture accept who has power and who doesn't. In places with a lower power distance, individuals act equal regardless of their formal positions.
Japan places much more emphasis on power distance in their culture than America does. This is because it's a lot more hierarchical. While some
individuals in America lack respect for those in higher positions, this is simply not tolerated in Japan. For example, direct eye contract when speaking
to someone who has more authority is frowned upon in Japan. The differences in power distance between these two cultures was clear from the movie
as every Japanese person knew their role and what was expected from them. The Americans working in the factory were more selfish and disrespectful
towards management. Insubordination is not tolerated in Japan like it is in America.
Uncertainty Avoidance
Uncertainty avoidance is known as a society's tolerance and

Thesis About Yaeba
Young Japanese women and girls are suffering from the Yaeba Complex. Unlike their counterparts in many other developed nations who view straight
teeth as perfection, the Japanese are instead opting to undergo the expensive and painful procedure of creating crooked teeth. In this essay, through the
lenses of the growing Yaeba trend, I will account for the reasons that contribute to this seemingly weird Japanese obsession of a preference for an
imperfect smile, and study the possible societal issues that have resulted in the former's emergence. A cross–country analysis between Japan and
America will also be briefly conducted to highlight the cultural similarities and differences between a highly Westernised Japan and the West itself.

This is in part due to numerous Japanese celebrities hopping onto the bandwagon of Yaeba procedures (Considine, 2011), playing an instrumental role
in popularising and defining a new beauty fashion. Indeed, a quick search on the internet churns out dozens of websites highlighting numerous
prominent Japanese celebrities proudly displaying their Yaeba, with the phrase 'cute', ubiquitous in the descriptions . Gathering from this popularised
trend of Yaeba procedures in pursuit of cute beauty, I posit that there are two main social issues that can be drawn to conclusion. After all, a social
trend highlights the underlying larger social issues. Firstly, I question if the Yaeba fascination points out to an underlying female subordination trend,
where women are simply keen to please men. It has been suggested in various accounts that Japanese men swoon over women with a Yaeba smile
(Didymus, 2013), as Yaeba is viewed as a child–like feature (Dumas, 2011). This possibly elevates the superiority of men as protectors and evokes a
desire for men to protect women. Such an unhealthy obsession with women possessing child–like appearance also seems to be "sexualising women"
(Considine, 2011) into symbols of possession, and belittling women as a weaker sex that is dependent on men for

The Culture And Culture Of Ainu
Ainu are the oldest inhabitants of Japan, also the minority in Japan, they live in the Hokkaido region of Japan, has a long history and rich cultural
background. The content will describe the Ainu language and their culture. By understanding the language and culture of Ainu, will help us better to
understand the cultural diversity of modern Japanese society.
Japan is considered the simplest ethnic composition country in the world. The majority people think that Japan is a single nation which is Yamato. In
fact, in Hokkaido of Japan, lived almost forgotten by the people of ethnic minorities – Ainu. Ainu is widely distributed in the Japanese Islands as early
as in the Jomon Period (Henshall, A History of Japan 7). Some scholars believe that they were from the branch of the Mongolian race from the Asian
continent, belonged to Mongolian and Negro–the Australian mixed type of race. The history of Ainu shows that they were mainly distributed in Russia
's Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and Hokkaido of Japan and other regions (Wikipedia). The Ainu are the oldest inhabitants of Japan.Ainu people formerly
lived in all over the Japan as the earliest indigenous people on the island. After being expelled by Yamato, they lived in Hokkaido and its surrounding
areas (picture 1). The Ainu have orbital collapse, prominent cheekbones, and black, curly hair. Both men and women like to wear earrings and Makiri

I Am A Good Problem Solver And I Have An Analytical Brain
About 3 weeks ago
Many people have different reasons to apply for staff. Mine will sound a little cheesy but its true. I purely enjoy helping people. It gives me a sense
of gratitude when I show someone how to do things the right way or help someone with their issues. I am a good problem solver and I have an
analytical brain. These traits make my job easy and fun. I know that staff isn't meant to be a fun job, but keeping a cheerful attitude on job and being
friendly to players makes more people want to come back to the server. I have two modes when being staff; one cheery light mood when I joke
around and talk with players and a serious mood when dealing with issues. I NEVER allow these two to mix together because that could
jeopardize my position and probably annoy some players. Lastly, I know that certain people apply for the rank because they think it will bring them
respect and make them cool. I have never considered this as a reason to apply and I frankly hate these types of people. They often end up abusing
their power and getting banned. I have never abused and will never abuse. I am applying because I believe that I have what it takes to help the server.
Why should we choose you to become staff instead of someone else?

with confusion/questions for hours worth of time as well! My highest priority when it comes to staffing is that I focus on most is moderating over
servers. I am not really a person who wants to dedicate themselves to formulating new structures or residing to head–to–head combat. I find it more
intriguing to supply players with a jubilant sense of feeling from my overall performance. I would be sure to keep dissonance from progressing to
ghastly circumstances. I would basically focus on the whole idea of my existence to staffing within this community, which is simply stated by pursuing
a largely said portion of time spent on the server, encompassing the chat within a correctly moderated state, assuring the prosperity of attentiveness to
answer all questions to my highest potential, keeping in touch with other fellow staff about suggestions/ideas/answers, and securing the server from
all egregious irrelevancy.I am also special and different in lots of ways. First off, my mentality is basically to work hard and play later. I do everything

The Effects Of Culture In A Souvenir Of Japan
Globalisation has profound effects on culture. Tradition, customs, ideas and values from different countries all around the world can be experienced
firsthand. However, writer Paul Pedersen suggests that "[e]xperiencing a new culture is a sudden and sometimes unpleasant feeling causing persons to
reevaluate both the new host and their own home culture" (2) in his book The Five Stages of Culture Shock. This statement is applicable to Angela
Carter's story "A Souvenir of Japan", where the British female protagonist travels to Japan and has a relationship with a Japanese man. In this essay, I
aspire to prove that in the environment of an unfamiliar culture, the protagonist undergoes unpleasant cultural shock, which makes her reassess the new

She discovers deep–rooted gender stereotypes in Taro and in a book where she reads, "[i]n a society where men dominate, they value women only as
the object of men's passions." (Carter) Her boyfriend Taro is a typical Japanese man, chauvinistic and patriarchal. Being a Westerner, our female
protagonist has been deeply influenced by the idea of individuality due to fact that since "the advent of the nation–state, people in the West have come
to understand 'society' to mean an association of individuals." (McKinney) The Japanese gender stereotypes totally overthrows the Western concept
of individuality. She disagrees with it, yet out of her love for Taro, she does not just break up with him and be free from the constraints of being an
"ideal wife". Instead she compromises, stays at home, waits for Taro to return from work and persuades herself that it is "a better thing to be valued
only as an object of passion than never to be valued at all." (Carter) She re–evaluates and puts her native culture aside, sacrifices her individuality and

Class Lecture : The Film A Raisin Of The Sun, Karl, A...
Alienation/Social Distance/Social Filters/Marginalization––Class Lecture: In the film a Raisin in the Sun, Karl, a white man, introduces himself as part
of the "welcoming committee" in the community in which he comes to buy out the house from the colored folks. The purpose of Karl coming over is
that the committee wants to keep their community segregated. In the scene, Linder tells the colored individuals about "the way" they do things in that
neighborhood which demonstrates the idea that the committee views the white individuals in the community as separate from the black people. Karl's
message demonstrates the idea that the committee believes that the best way of fixing the issue of black individuals moving into a community is to
bribe them to move out as white people are doing everything in their power to keep black families out of their community. Therefore, Mr. Linder, as part
of the welcoming committee is a representation of the rest of the white society who strives to alienate black individuals and control the neighborhood
through their own rules. He demonstrates the racism that exists among the white people not only in their community but also in America who have
both segregated and alienated African Americans. This sense of alienation stems from being marginalized by white superiors who have pushed black
people to the edge of society by not giving them a place within. The white folks are not allowing black people a place in their neighborhood as they

Waknuk is the hometown of David, Petra and Rosalind; the three had to flee their home by night when they got news of Sally and Katherine being
captured. David and Petra left home and travelled down a path to the riverbank, where they met up with Rosalind. For their travel they utilized two
great horses owned by Rosalind's father to go on their journey for safety. David, Petra and Rosalind travelled in a southwesterly direction until they
came to a stop in the early morning. The three started their journey again in the late of the evening through the night in the same direction till they
came to a stop in Labrador, where Petra was sending letter shapes to the Sealand woman of their current location. They continued on their journey until
the break of dawn and then rested. Just after sunrise Michael informed them that he and the search party were on their trail and they needed to get
going. David, Petra and Rosalind hustled their things together and made their way, continuing in a southwesterly direction into Wild Country. They
made another stop in Wild Country to eat. When it was a little darker they pushed on towards the Fringes, until they were captured by the Fringes people
and taken even further into the Fringes. Eventually, the Sealand woman rescued David, Petra and Rosalind and they travelled to Zealand via a flying
craft that she had came in during the evening.

Hafu Essay
Hafu is the term used in Japan to describe children of half–Japanese descent. This term is derived from the English
" Half " which, when used in the Japanese language, indicates that a person is only half of the Japanese culture. According to " Hafu Japanese " the
term Hafu originated in the 1970s and is now the most commonly used label for half–Japanese children (Hafu Japanese, 2010). Being called half might
seem like an insult to some people, in Japan it is not really meant this way. In a YouTube video Japanese got asked about what image they have
about Hafu, most of them answered that they wanted to be a Hafu as well. Almost all the answers to this question were positive; they are pretty,
they have long legs, they have the best of both worlds. The majority of the Japanese seem to have positive views on what it is like to be a Hafu, but
they might not have a proper understanding of what it is like to be Hafu. So despite the positive image the Japanese have, life in Japan is not easy for
people with mixed roots (Views from the street on Hafu, 2010).

Global Business Cultural Analysis Of Japan Essay
Global Business Cultural Analysis: Japan
James Hendricks
Liberty University Global Business Cultural Analysis: Japan
Technological advancement has made globalization an inevitable factor that businesses of the future will need to consider in order to be successful.
Increasingly, companies that have been solely domestic are branching out internationally for a wide variety of reasons, but in the end, it's all about
making profits from previously inaccessible market segments. The scaling is vast: international businesses can be as small as a stay at home mother
that just created a Limited Liability Corporation to sell a unique product to the world, to an already established international businesses conglomerate
with offices across the globe.
Specifically, this work takes a glimpse into the culture of Japan as it relates to certain aspects that greatly effect international business. Secondly, there
will be a discussion of how Japan is conducting its business internationally and how aspects of Japanese culture lead to either their success or failure on
the international business stage. Thirdly, there will be a comparison as to how the cultural differences between Japan and the United States can be a
barrier to successful trade and business and specific items that companies from the United States need to keep in mind when conducting business in
Japan. Fourthly, there will be an examination of special considerations to keep in mind when conducting

The Cultural Aspects Of Promotion
Temporal conception Japanese are poly–chronic in nature which means that they do many things at one time. Even they can easily get distracted and
sometimes they also change their plans very easily. Here Canadians are totally different so Jell–O would have to present itself in such a way that they
do not get attracted towards other brands.
In context of timing Japanese prefer completing their work even they ignore the time element as completion of work is the main target for the Japanese
and this is totally different from Canadian culture.
Cultural Aspects of Promotion
Advertising Jell–O through social websites would be beneficial in Japan as Japan is on the top of the list of digitized countries. Each and every
civilian of Japan is using internet on his mobile or pc. Making a page on the Facebook and twitter under name Jell–O would attract its target market
which is young people of Japan.
For establishing good public relationships, family oriented advertisements with some emotional insight should run through TV as emotions play a vital
role in decision making process of Japanese.
Another strategy is to do promotion through the best advertising industry of japan which is Denstu. It is famous in promoting the international
companies in japan. Its office is available in Tokyo so it can be used as a strong marketing tool for the Jell–O.
Some other kind of promotion strategies are providing bonus to

Stereotypes In The Outsiders
Stereotype; a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. In the realistic fiction novel, The
Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, and in the short story, "Geeks Bearing Gifts", written by Ron Koertge, stereotypes are defied by ordinary people. In The
Outsiders, Johnny Cade and Darry Curtis face many struggles throughout their lives. Their town in separated into two: the rich and dangerous Socs,
and the quiet, tough Greasers. For them, living dangerously is a reality. As a result of their lifestyle, Johnny has become fearful and Darry is
considered the toughest man in the gang. In "Geeks Bearing Gifts" aspiring journalist, Renee, interviews her fellow classmates who are classified as
"outcasts." After meeting several students, she realizes her assumptions were incorrect about them. After reading both of these stories, the reader learns
that our thoughts about others often revolve around stereotypes and assumptions, but most of these ideas that we have about other people are proven
wrong.
In The Outsiders, Johnny and Darry find themselves struggling with the stereotype society has labeled them with. While in the park, Johnny and his
friend Ponyboy are jumped by five Socs. Unexpectedly, Johnny stands up for himself and protects his friend. On page 56, the text states, "'I killed
him,' he said slowly. 'I killed that boy'. Bob the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still." This demonstrates that
although Johnny is considered a timid and innocent person, he proves that how he acts in the gang is different from how he acts in the outside
world. This is unexpected because Johnny is always the one being cared for in the gang. However, he protected his friend by killing someone.
Johnny's actions prove that our assumptions about others are wrong. This matters because society needs to realize that based on stereotypes, we
incorrectly judge others before getting to know them. Johnny is a clear example of what happens when one is judged based on assumptions. Another
example of this theme is reflected when Darry breaks down at a hospital after finding out that his younger brother, Ponyboy, is going to be okay. On
pages 98–99, the text states, "'Darry,

Japanese Interpersonal Relationships
The first topic is about a worker's relation towards his or her workmates with consideration of the working culture and environment. There are three
principal factors which affects interpersonal relationship at workplace, I think; tendency of finding a value in working hard, the hidden but strict rule of
having worship for the boss, and the subjection of women. I will take up each factor.
First of all, I'll describe the effect of Japanese tendency of finding value in working hard. One of the reason is that Japanese are concerned about how
they are perceived by the others. I don't know the absolute reason but Japanese tend to be a group oriented. In order not to disrupt the atmosphere at
workplace, they pay much attention for their behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here in Japan from right after the war to recent days, since the family style that the man work outside and earn money, and the woman keep their house
and educate children had been common, some people still believed that men are good at working and women are not. That causes that men's forcing
women to do indirect and supportive work, such as drawing tea, taking a copy or being a acceptance. There are two extreme examples. First, in a
meeting on business, a company was suggesting idea to the partner company. At first, a woman of the suggesting company spoke, but the members of
partner company didn't hear anything as if to say that suggestion by the woman was indifferent. However, the speaker changed from the woman to
another man of the suggesting company, the listeners started to hear keenly with nodding even though he said completely the same thing as her. The
other example is the complaint. A man had a complaint with a product, so went to a shop. The shop respond to the problem by appearing a
responsible woman at the shop. However, the man didn't know she took in charge of the shop and said "the responsible person must appear!". He took

Death Is The Worst Thing
There is one thing in this world that no one can escape, that everyone fears, and makes people who are close to that person miserable, and that is
death. Death is the worst thing that can ever happen to a person, and is just as bad for the people who are close to them. There is an emptiness that
comes with the death of a loved one or someone close. That blankness in the world does something to the people who encompass that person who
passed. It changes people, whether it is for better or worse. Death is a part of life and depending on how people are affected can dictate whether it will
leave a positive or negative change to their life and that conversion happened to me with the death of my mother, Fran. I can recall the day it happened,
like it was yesterday, the air had a certain emptiness to it. It felt cold, barren, but it just felt like any normal rough day, where everything would not

Essay The Benevolent Master
The Benevolent Master
I.
The black identity during the nineteenth century in America was one based on a position of inferiority. The inferiority of slaves to their masters was
expressed in several different ways, but all were designed to secure a dependent relationship of the slave to the master. Masters often viewed their
slaves as deserving of a moral or religious upbringing, and saw themselves as responsible for completing this task. Paternalism transformed the
relationship of slave and master into one of child and parent. In such cases the slave may have been spared the abuse of a cruel master, but suffered no
less subordination. A benevolent master created a comfortable environment for slaves, ultimately producing complacent,... Show more content on

The two words, "simple" and "child," strip Tom of his adulthood. Essentially, Tom is incapable of independent thought, putting him in the dependent
position as a victim who needs to be saved. There is no risk of Tom attempting an escape because he is not allowed to imagine a life beyond his
present condition.
As the protagonist of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Stowe uses Tom to make a point not just about the inhumanity which Tom is a product of, but of the
model Christian who is submissive. Stowe looks to the obedient slave to set an example of a model Christian. The passive, submissive slave has
the same faith in his or her master as the good Christian should: thus, Tom proves to be both a good slave and a good Christian. It then becomes
the responsibility of the master to raise his or her slaves as they would a child, instilling in them Christian virtues, which consequently stifles the
desire to be free. This parallel is seen in a discussion between Eliza and her husband George, "Well,' said Eliza mournfully, 'I always thought that I
must obey my master and mistress, or I couldn't be a good Christian." (16) Her husband agrees: in the case of a kind master it makes sense for a
slave to obey. It is significant that George agrees with Eliza, it is his tyrannical master which prompts his escape. Recognizing the benefits of masters
like the Shelbys makes George's agreement with Eliza

Analysis Of ' High School Based Television Shows Violence...
In high school based television shows there are constant themes of insecurity and the division of popular kids and the outcasts. Unfortunately, that
is how the world works, people are labeled and associated with certain groups. These labels force people into thinking that they have to look a
certain way or follow popular trends. Just like Susannah Calahan in Brain on Fire, she suffers from an illness and during her recovery she
criticizes herself based off of what society expects her to look like. Social norms are deeply entrenched in everyone's life to the point where
Susannah tries to hide her sickness and put on a strong face just to avoid being labeled as abnormal. There is a sense of her fear of being ridiculed
and alienated from her loved ones since she does not fulfill the common image society has on women. Susannah is embarrassed by her actions, her
appearance and she refuses to accept that her new–self is even a part of her identity. Susannah does not view her post illness appearance as acceptable

Reality Is A Perception That Organizes How People Relate...
Reality is a perception that organizes how people relate and organize the world. The Paracingulate sulcus is a structure in the brain that is associated
with our monitoring of what is reality and what is not. With out this monitoring system people end up with disorders such as schizophrenia. The New
York Times interprets the results of a study published by the University of Cambridge and University of Melbourne on the effects of the Paracingulate
sulcus on how people monitor what is reality. The Study, "A SpecificBrain Structural Basis for Individual Differences in Reality Monitoring," examines
a variety of research on the matter and presents the hypothesis that the people with out a Paracingulate sulcus will have poorer monitoring of
memory compared to people with a clear Paracingulate sulcus on either one or both sides of the brain. Even though both articles explain the exact
same research, it is interesting to see the many differences of the two articles. The article was chosen for more then its connection to cognition and
what is being studied in class. The article interested both participants in more ways than one. The idea of reality being a perception that changes from
person to person is not something people think about explicitly. It is merely by reading the article that one can take interest in the fact that each
person perceives the world a different way. Even more so, this perception can be altered by having, or not having, a specific structure in the

Taking a Look at Audience Analysis
Audience analysis is one of the most important elements of effective communication which involves assembling and interpreting information about the
recipients of oral, written, or visual communication. In order to derive an effective speech or writing, it is imperative to determine the associated
characteristics of an audience. Audience analysis can help you gain valuable insight about your readers, which can help you to choose and develop a
relevant, meaningful topic. It can also help you to create a writing plan that is tailored effectively to your reading audience, with appropriate tone, style,
language and content.
Generally, audience analysis is the collection and interpretation of audience characteristics through observation, inferences, questionnaires, or
interviews. There are three main ways to adapt to audience before starting the communication process (Steven A. and Susan J. Beebe, 1997):
Demographic analysis
Disposition analysis
Knowledge analysis
Demographic analysis: It involves age, gender, culture, ethnicity, race, religion and educational level of the audience. More likely, it gives an idea about:
Is my audience homogenous or heterogeneous? How are the readers alike or different from one another? Despite the differences, what do readers have
in common?
What range of ages is represented?
What are my readers' political and religious affiliations?
What is my role in relationship to my reading audience?
Each of these factors affects reader's

I Have A Life Guided By Morality, Driven By Passion, And...
I am Jake Savino, but I have not always known that. I have not truly discovered my identity, who I am as a person, or what I was put on this planet
to do, until recent years. I live a life guided by morality, driven by passion, and inspired by my loved ones.
My passion is to work in bioethics for a specialty hospital. I gained an emotional connection to the healthcare field at a very young age, but did not
quite know how to make this into my future. It is still very much a learning process for me; one that I reflect on every minute of every day. I have
become drawn to the dichotomies of the world, specifically in healthcare. I tend to think about things in a very analytical, philosophical, and empathetic
manner. I often question how people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a shame to me that my mom's action of stepping forward to tell hospital staff about this procedure was the deciding factor of my dad's
survival. There had to be something more that the nurses and physicians could have done. I was, and still am, in disbelief. I saw first hand what
could happen if one does not know what options of care are available. Those are the types of atrocities that are happening today. Very few people are
looking out for the common man and people die every day, needlessly, as a result.
Another person, also very near and dear to my heart, has helped develop my values into my sought future. I have been a mentor for a physically and
mentally challenged individual named David through an organization called Countryside Association for People with Disabilities. People like David
are turned down from healthcare all the time because our health system renders them as functioning adults when, in fact, they are not capable of living
on their own at all. If such wonderful parents had not adopted David, the state would not provide care for him past age twenty–four, other than
providing income for disability. David cannot manage himself. The fact that there are people in the world struggling with similar issues, and nobody to
advocate for them worries me.
I believe that everyone deserves the right to the best care available without the basis of income, employment, or social standing. I believe cutting edge
approaches need to be offered to

Personal Vision Statement : My Vision
Introduction
In this paper, I will outline my personal vision statement. This vision and mission will help determine the steps I need to take now in order to
become the type of leader that others will follow. Next, I discuss those internal and external obstacles which may prevent me from achieving my
goals. Lastly, I will identify the steps I will take to overcome or mitigate those obstacles. In conclusion, by outlining my desired personal vision
statement I hope to have a picture or image upon which I can reflect regularly. By so doing, it is my sincere desire and hope of it actually happening.
My Vision A personal vision statement is a written description of the lifestyle youwant to be enjoying at a given point in the future (Pearson, Thomas,
2003). I actually have two competing visions. If I were somehow to inherit a large sum of money, I would love to open a state of the art facility
where kids could come after school and may do their homework. Once they completed their homework they would have a place to decompress
after a long day at school. The facility would have a video arcade, basketball, tennis, and racquet ball court. There would also be an Olympic style
swimming pool. In addition, I would have a computer room as well as a state of the art library. I would hire tech geeks to teach, train, and equip our
kids on computer technology and maybe even hire someone to teach a foreign language. I would have a music room for those who wish to learn how

The Children and Young Persons Act 2008 Essay
There are a number of legislations which address the needs of young people leaving care with provisions that are in place to help them through life
transitions. The Children and Young Persons Act 2008 focuses on older young people and those who are leaving care. Providing the necessary
legislative support to improve the care system in England. Ensuring that stability and continuity in every aspect of a child's care. This act proposed to
reform the statutory framework for the care system involving children and young people as much as possible regarding decision making, giving them a

Question: Where Do Our Attitudes About Good And Bad Language
Question: Where do our attitudes about good and bad language come from and how do they correlate with language discrimination?
Ever since the beginning of time, communication has never been considered foreign to any living creature. As a child, you automatically pick up from
your surroundings even if you are unaware of it at that very moment in time, same type of concept with language. When you hear your family members,
your peers, and other types of "influential" individuals communicate, your brain acts as a sponge in a sense and absorbs what information you hear
from them. Now, not all things that other people say are positive especially when it comes to language. For instance, you are taught from a very young
age that they way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What this means is that people make judgements off the way others communicate, which is something you already may have known because you might
do the same exact thing on a daily basis. Language is something that is sacred in a sense because it is something that makes you the person you are
today or is just the reason why people look at you the way they do, it is what makes you special. As I had stated previously, the attitudes about good
and bad language come from "influential" individuals. Now, the reason I use the word influential is because it is almost impossible to pinpoint what
people everyone sees or hears from and try to emulate what those influential people preach into their daily lives. Influential people may be parents,
friends, celebrities, journalists, or government officials, basically those people who you feel have the biggest input/ impact on the way you think
about things. One of the most powerful figures that we try to emulate from are celebrities, without a doubt. When you see a celebrity, someone who
has a lot of money, you will automatically assume that whatever they say, it must mean something. In a sense, we idolize celebrities because they are
powerful, they can go anywhere their hearts desire just because they want to. We all wish to be like some

Personal Development Skills
From infancy to adulthood, a person's emotional development skills differ on many levels; for example: a person may have the ability to manage a
whole department but lack a few skills necessary to manage the people who work in that department. I feel as though I can relate to this issue due to
the fact that even though my employees get their jobs done, I sometimes sense that they do not consider me their manager because I was once their
co–worker.

Do not avoid talking to a poor performer. It hurts them, the organization and yourself if the situation is not dealt with.
Do not over control others. It is frustrating for them and time consuming for you.
Focus on results, not on activities or personalities.
Reward people for the results that they produce.
Manage by walking around. See what people are doing and listen to what they have to say. A manager who sits in the office for their entire shift does
not instill a sense of teamwork in their staff, nor do they hear the daily issues they should address.
Make quality an obsession, especially on smaller items.
Send thank you notes and memos.
Provide workers with open, direct, and immediate feedback on their actual performance as compared to expected performance and they tend to correct
their own deficiencies.
Practice naive listening. Don 't talk, just let people explain why they are doing the types of things that they are doing. You will learn many things.
Conclusion People manage people; it is a part of everyday life especially in the workplace. In the workplace, how you treat your employees will not
only reflect back on you but also helps to establish communication between yourself

Conflicts Between The Police And The People
Throughout American history we've had many instances where conflicts between the police and the people have occurred and it was difficult to find
what exactly happened. They become 'he said she said' type of situations even when there may be a lot of evidence and eyewitness accounts because
people want to see it for themselves. With having police body camera's it can be helped to eliminate these issues and finally work on helping with core
issues there are today. Not all police officers are bad and not allpeople are good. However, we're in 2014 and we shouldn't have some of the problems
we have. In 2008 it was recorded that males were more likely to receive threats or use of force and in 74% of these situations were viewed as excessive
and included pushing or grabbing. It was reported that 19% of these conflicts included the person being injured. In statistics from 2011–2012 it's been
proven that in many shore communities that 44% of the arrests were black while they had made up only 15% of the population. As of 2012 in our
own town we had a rate of 384.6 per 1000 residents were arrested if they were blacks v.s. a whopping 90.1 per 1000 residents if you were not black.
The point is, race, racial profiling, and brutality also have a great deal to influence why this bill should be passed. In a 12 month trial in Rialto (CA)
they held an experimental study in which they had a had some of their officers wear a body camera while on duty and other officers without one.

My Position On A Statewide Bathroom Policy
In the endeavor to fully describe my position on this particular issue, it is my wish to begin with a short introduction to the history of myself. I am a
straight, married man with many friends from all walks of life. These friends happen to include everyone from transgendered persons to straight
persons, atheists to polytheists, and everyone in between. I consider myself open–minded, but do not mistake me for liberal–minded, as this term does
not represent me.
The line between hate and dislike is a rather thin one to say the least. The policy change debate–of which, if I may say, no one was invited to–of the
private corporation that is the Target store franchise, is one that should not, and cannot be remarked upon by anyone in public office. There was an
article last week regarding the possibility of Texas adopting a statewide bathroom policy that would requirepeople to use the latrine that corresponds to
their gender at birth.
Perhaps, you, as I did, see the paradox created by the right. To be sticking their nose in business (a literal, private, business) where it does not belong
by enforcing a state–governed rule on bathroom policy is ludicrous. Are these not the same people who complain about government making rules for
private corporations?
My statement earlier regarding the line between hate and dislike is growing ever more relevant. You see, one can dislike a policy, but due to the
politically ethical obligation that comes with holding public office, that person

A Short Note On Japan 's Express Post Service
Takuhaibin (Japan's express post service)
Takuhaibin or express post service is a postal service offered in Japan. In this essay, I will be discussing based on research I have done,
characteristics of the service that are offered that are not offered by similar services in New Zealand as well as major Takuhaibin companies and
future development of the service. I will be supplying graphs and data to support these claims. Finally concluding with my thoughts and opinions on
the Takuhaibin system as well as how I think some of the ideas that are being used by the Ta–Q–Ben system can further add to the courier system of

In Japan, there are three major companies that supply the Takuhaibin system and one that focuses on express post for business. These companies are

Japanese Culture And Cultural Differences
I have decided to discuss the Japanese culture because we have the foreign exchange students visiting us October seventeenth though the
nineteenth and I thought it would be nice to learn about their culture beforehand. I also would like to learn more about the Japanese culture
because when I become a nurse, I want to be aware of cultural differences. I will be giving a brief overview of the culture, talking about their
religion, community customs, family roles and organization, how they communicate, and their healthcare as well as how they view nurses. As a
nurse taking care of a Japanese person, they should be aware of a few cultural differences. First of all, a nurse should greet a Japanese patient the
same as an American patient, with a handshake and calling them by their last name. In Japan, people will typically bow to each other when they
first meet, but if they are in the US, a handshake will be equivalent. One example of a cultural difference is that as an American, we like to have
eye contact while speaking with people, and it is considered rude not to make eye contact, but to a Japanese person, making eye contact for more
than a few seconds is considered rude. Also, if you are taking care of a Japanese person and there is a language barrier, it is good to know that many
Japanese patients will most likely be able to write out what they are trying to say. Another example is that, "Many traditional Japanese have very good
control over their body language, so it may

As the world that we living is a highly competitive where every product is getting bigger and better we as consumers are faced with increased choices,

Social class is defined as wealth, education and occupation these groups and the sense of belonging are a crucial factor in consumption.
Social factors are facts and experiences that influence the consumer's personality, attitudes and lifestyle; these are grouped as reference groups,
families, role and status. Reference groups give the potential for a person for attitudes as they compare themselves to others. Family behavior is very
influential on an individual as it is so ingrained to routine. Every consumer has a different role and status in society, defining what they will consume.
Hill et al. (1990, p317) describes individuals the being defined as being "embedded in the interactions and roles played within a society" as a homeless
person has a very limited ability to consume.
Lifestyle, income, occupation, age and self–concept are the most influential personal factors to affect consumer behavior. Age creates many different

Why I Want For The People Who Will Influence My Identity...
Ever since I was little, my mom has repeated little sayings to my brothers and I. One of her favorites was, "You can pick your friends, you can
pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose." While this research project is not headed in the direction of nose picking, as I have gotten
older, this quote has caused me to reflect on the choices I have made in terms of who I am. If I do indeed hold the power to choose the people who will
influence my identity the strongest, why did I not choose those who have allowed me to be authentic until now?
What is authenticity? "Being authentic means something like living in accordance with one's own unique values and ideals," but it is greater than
simply being oneself, it is "resisting the imposition of the values and ideals of others" (Pierce 441) as well. Therefore, authenticity is also
neglecting to succumb to the beliefs of others to stay true to one's own beliefs. However, this does not mean that authenticity is static, "an individual
should engage in a process of constructing his personhood.... His task in life becomes searching for his true personhood" (381). Personhood should
be a journey of finding oneself, figuring out who one is and what one believes in. The act of evolving is part of the discovery, but when "their acts
are guided by other people's ideas of who they should be" (379) it leads to inauthenticity because the change is made solely to fit in. All in all,
authenticity is based heavily on truth, because "[it]

Japan 's First Contact With The Gospel
Before we delve deep in the designated people group, it is key to focus on Japan as a whole. Japan's first contact with the gospel came through the
Catholic Missionary Francis Xavier in 1549. Thanks to Portuguese traders the doors were opened for Jesuit missionaries to set foot on the islands of
Japan. Interestingly, the trend of missionaries arriving in foreign locations, which would then be followed by trade, was not the case for Japan. Instead,
trade preceded the missionaries and allowed them access to this closed nation. At that time, the feudal Lords welcomed anything that would benefit the
increase of trade. So, the question emerged of whether or not to trade, since trade brought the promise of financial gain. By 1597 the nation saw its
highest percentage of converts with roughly 300,000 converts to the Christian faith. Many of these converts did not know the deep meaning of being a
Christian. Many times the word of God was preached by the edge of the sword. Many Buddhist priests were given the choice of banishment or to accept
the Christian faith. In 17th century Japan, Christianity was prevalent throughout the land. However, with the introduction of the Tokugawa rule,
Christianity soon lost its foothold in which a strict social order marked by its isolationist approach took over the country. In 1614, an edict was sent
throughout the land ordering that Christianity should no longer be practiced and missionaries to be banished from Japan. Churches were destroyed and

The shopper that only buys the items on his list is the person who makes shopping quick, easy, and affordable. Those who are proactive and live

Japan As A Collectivist Country

  • 1. Japan As A Collectivist Country Many westerners view Japan as a collectivist country that differs greatly when comparing it to western countries such as the United States in cultural aspects. One may explain that Confucianism plays a key role in how the Japanese society functions. Others may argue that Japan is distinctively different and no other country share similar traits. People can see the evidence of Japan being a collectivistic country by comparing Japan to other countries in the concept of high–context society versus low–context society. How do Japan and other countries differ in culture? Japan is regarded as a high–context society and on the other hand the United States is considered a low–context society. In high–context societies, people often value relationships more than partnership. The virtue of "harmony" is the main emphasis in high–context societies. In the United States students are often encouraged to know how to form an argument and debate with other people to prove their opinion and persuade other people to agree. On the contrary, Japanese students learn about teamwork through different task and recognize oneself as a member of the society. In Japan, people discourage competition and encourage cooperation. Unlike the United States where children are often praised for being unique and special, Japan tends to prefer conformity and children are advised to be just like everyone else in the group. Although it has changed throughout the past decade, before all most all female Japanese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Why Japan's Education System In 8000 BCE, a small nation emerged in East Asia, in the Pacific Ocean. It has grown to an archipelago made out of over 6,000 islands, with 4 main islands. These islands have a tropical climate in the south and a temperate climate in the north. The land is mountainous and rocky, with volcanic or seismic activity almost every day. It began as a place full of hunters and gathers. Then in 300 BCE, rice production rose and allowed these groups to form a conglomerate nation known as Japan. After the nation was formed, Japan went through a multitude of wars (both civil and foreign), movement of the capital city, changes in governmental systems, rise and fall of dynasties, creation or introduction of religions, and improvement of technology and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people of Japan work carefully to be successful in school, excel in the workplace, and to keep traditions in practice, and that is why the Japanese are industrious. The term industrious can describe Japan's education system for a few of reasons. The foremost reason is that Japan is diligent when educating their students. They meticulously select what classes the students take, to ensure that each student is taking the needed academic courses, while also making sure they are taking an arts course. These are required because the Japanese believe that a mix of academics and arts creates a well–rounded citizen. The Japanese education system can be categorized as industrious also because of the work ethics that are imparted during the students' years. Japan has a highly regarded school system that pushes its students to excel. It does this by giving them the motivation to complete tasks they are given and more. This is evident in the widely used "cram school", which is instruction after the normal school day to prepare for exams. The Japanese education ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Challenges of Interpersonal Communication Within the... Challenges of Interpersonal Communication within the Japanese Culture One way of defining interpersonal communication is to compare it to other forms of communication. In so doing, one would examine how many people are involved, how physically close they are to one another, how many sensory channels are used, and the feedback provided. Interpersonal communication differs from other forms of communication in that there are few participants involved, the people who interact are in close physical proximity to each other, there are many sensory channels used, and feedback is immediate. An important point to note about the contextual definition is that it does not take into account the relationship between the people who are interacting with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the emperor retains his throne as a symbol of national unity, power generally rests in networks of powerful politicians, bureaucrats, and business executives. The economy experienced a major slowdown starting in the 1990s following three decades of unprecedented growth, but Japan still remains a major economic power both in Asia and globally. In 2005, Japan began a two–year term as a non–permanent member of the UN Security Council (De Mente, 2009). "Masculine cultures focus on achievement, competitiveness, strength, and material success (West, R. & Turner, L., 2006)." Japaneseculture follows the masculine dimension. What material possessions a person has and what a person has achieved hold the most value. "Business is strictly business, and everyone is expected to do whatever the boss wants of them" (M. Stonecipher, personal communication, Oct. 25, 2009). All workers are expected to stay until the boss leaves (personal communication, Oct. 25, 2009). "The Japanese live to work in essence and everything is about business" (Masculinity in Japan, 2008). "But both men and women place high importance on achievement, material success, and learn to be ambitious and competitive (Masculinity in Japan, 2008)." In the home, the man is to be respected. "Women and men have very different roles in society. For example, men are understood to be dominant and tough while women are generally softer and more emotional" (Masculinity in ... • 4. The Cultural Value Model Of Japan And Japan The cultural value model that is being used in this outline is Hofstede's Model. Although Japan and America have quite a few economic and technologic similarities, they contrast in many ways. The biggest difference between these two countries is Individualism vs. Collectivism. Hofstede himself finds that both of these cultures differ significantly on most these diminesions (Shah). PART 1: Compare and Contrast Cultural Values Power Distance Power distance in cultures refers to the way that power is distributed between people. It can be measured by the extent of how individuals within that culture accept who has power and who doesn't. In places with a lower power distance, individuals act equal regardless of their formal positions. Japan places much more emphasis on power distance in their culture than America does. This is because it's a lot more hierarchical. While some individuals in America lack respect for those in higher positions, this is simply not tolerated in Japan. For example, direct eye contract when speaking to someone who has more authority is frowned upon in Japan. The differences in power distance between these two cultures was clear from the movie as every Japanese person knew their role and what was expected from them. The Americans working in the factory were more selfish and disrespectful towards management. Insubordination is not tolerated in Japan like it is in America. Uncertainty Avoidance Uncertainty avoidance is known as a society's tolerance and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Thesis About Yaeba Young Japanese women and girls are suffering from the Yaeba Complex. Unlike their counterparts in many other developed nations who view straight teeth as perfection, the Japanese are instead opting to undergo the expensive and painful procedure of creating crooked teeth. In this essay, through the lenses of the growing Yaeba trend, I will account for the reasons that contribute to this seemingly weird Japanese obsession of a preference for an imperfect smile, and study the possible societal issues that have resulted in the former's emergence. A cross–country analysis between Japan and America will also be briefly conducted to highlight the cultural similarities and differences between a highly Westernised Japan and the West itself. Yaeba... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is in part due to numerous Japanese celebrities hopping onto the bandwagon of Yaeba procedures (Considine, 2011), playing an instrumental role in popularising and defining a new beauty fashion. Indeed, a quick search on the internet churns out dozens of websites highlighting numerous prominent Japanese celebrities proudly displaying their Yaeba, with the phrase 'cute', ubiquitous in the descriptions . Gathering from this popularised trend of Yaeba procedures in pursuit of cute beauty, I posit that there are two main social issues that can be drawn to conclusion. After all, a social trend highlights the underlying larger social issues. Firstly, I question if the Yaeba fascination points out to an underlying female subordination trend, where women are simply keen to please men. It has been suggested in various accounts that Japanese men swoon over women with a Yaeba smile (Didymus, 2013), as Yaeba is viewed as a child–like feature (Dumas, 2011). This possibly elevates the superiority of men as protectors and evokes a desire for men to protect women. Such an unhealthy obsession with women possessing child–like appearance also seems to be "sexualising women" (Considine, 2011) into symbols of possession, and belittling women as a weaker sex that is dependent on men for ... The Culture And Culture Of Ainu Ainu are the oldest inhabitants of Japan, also the minority in Japan, they live in the Hokkaido region of Japan, has a long history and rich cultural background. The content will describe the Ainu language and their culture. By understanding the language and culture of Ainu, will help us better to understand the cultural diversity of modern Japanese society. In fact, in Hokkaido of Japan, lived almost forgotten by the people of ethnic minorities – Ainu. Ainu is widely distributed in the Japanese Islands as early as in the Jomon Period (Henshall, A History of Japan 7). Some scholars believe that they were from the branch of the Mongolian race from the Asian continent, belonged to Mongolian and Negro–the Australian mixed type of race. The history of Ainu shows that they were mainly distributed in Russia 's Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and Hokkaido of Japan and other regions (Wikipedia). • 7. I Am A Good Problem Solver And I Have An Analytical Brain About 3 weeks ago Many people have different reasons to apply for staff. Mine will sound a little cheesy but its true. I purely enjoy helping people. It gives me a sense of gratitude when I show someone how to do things the right way or help someone with their issues. I am a good problem solver and I have an analytical brain. These traits make my job easy and fun. I know that staff isn't meant to be a fun job, but keeping a cheerful attitude on job and being friendly to players makes more people want to come back to the server. I have two modes when being staff; one cheery light mood when I joke around and talk with players and a serious mood when dealing with issues. I NEVER allow these two to mix together because that could jeopardize my position and probably annoy some players. Lastly, I know that certain people apply for the rank because they think it will bring them respect and make them cool. I have never considered this as a reason to apply and I frankly hate these types of people. They often end up abusing their power and getting banned. I have never abused and will never abuse. I am applying because I believe that I have what it takes to help the server. Why should we choose you to become staff instead of someone else? To begin with, I feel I should take part in the staffing community here because I ensure a large portion of qualified time as well as extreme experiences and a sincere inclination in moderating over the chat and providing the necessary satisfaction ... The Staffing Community Of Arkanite To begin with, I feel I should take part in the staffing community of Arkanite because I ensure a large portion of qualified time as well as extreme experiences and a sincere inclination in moderating over the chat and providing the necessary satisfaction to players in need of any particular assistance. I am a person who shares a natural obligation and heavy dedication to those in need of a correct moderation. I will be there to help them with confusion/questions for hours worth of time as well! My highest priority when it comes to staffing is that I focus on most is moderating over servers. I am not really a person who wants to dedicate themselves to formulating new structures or residing to head–to–head combat. I find it more intriguing to supply players with a jubilant sense of feeling from my overall performance. I would be sure to keep dissonance from progressing to ghastly circumstances. I would basically focus on the whole idea of my existence to staffing within this community, which is simply stated by pursuing a largely said portion of time spent on the server, encompassing the chat within a correctly moderated state, assuring the prosperity of attentiveness to answer all questions to my highest potential, keeping in touch with other fellow staff about suggestions/ideas/answers, and securing the server from all egregious irrelevancy.I am also special and different in lots of ways. First off, my mentality is basically to work hard and play later. I do everything with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Effects Of Culture In A Souvenir Of Japan Globalisation has profound effects on culture. Tradition, customs, ideas and values from different countries all around the world can be experienced firsthand. However, writer Paul Pedersen suggests that "[e]xperiencing a new culture is a sudden and sometimes unpleasant feeling causing persons to reevaluate both the new host and their own home culture" (2) in his book The Five Stages of Culture Shock. This statement is applicable to Angela Carter's story "A Souvenir of Japan", where the British female protagonist travels to Japan and has a relationship with a Japanese man. In this essay, I aspire to prove that in the environment of an unfamiliar culture, the protagonist undergoes unpleasant cultural shock, which makes her reassess the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She discovers deep–rooted gender stereotypes in Taro and in a book where she reads, "[i]n a society where men dominate, they value women only as the object of men's passions." (Carter) Her boyfriend Taro is a typical Japanese man, chauvinistic and patriarchal. Being a Westerner, our female protagonist has been deeply influenced by the idea of individuality due to fact that since "the advent of the nation–state, people in the West have come to understand 'society' to mean an association of individuals." (McKinney) The Japanese gender stereotypes totally overthrows the Western concept of individuality. She disagrees with it, yet out of her love for Taro, she does not just break up with him and be free from the constraints of being an "ideal wife". Instead she compromises, stays at home, waits for Taro to return from work and persuades herself that it is "a better thing to be valued only as an object of passion than never to be valued at all." (Carter) She re–evaluates and puts her native culture aside, sacrifices her individuality and gives up what Western culture has made her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Class Lecture : The Film A Raisin Of The Sun, Karl, A... Alienation/Social Distance/Social Filters/Marginalization––Class Lecture: In the film a Raisin in the Sun, Karl, a white man, introduces himself as part of the "welcoming committee" in the community in which he comes to buy out the house from the colored folks. The purpose of Karl coming over is that the committee wants to keep their community segregated. In the scene, Linder tells the colored individuals about "the way" they do things in that neighborhood which demonstrates the idea that the committee views the white individuals in the community as separate from the black people. Karl's message demonstrates the idea that the committee believes that the best way of fixing the issue of black individuals moving into a community is to bribe them to move out as white people are doing everything in their power to keep black families out of their community. Therefore, Mr. Linder, as part of the welcoming committee is a representation of the rest of the white society who strives to alienate black individuals and control the neighborhood through their own rules. He demonstrates the racism that exists among the white people not only in their community but also in America who have both segregated and alienated African Americans. This sense of alienation stems from being marginalized by white superiors who have pushed black people to the edge of society by not giving them a place within. The white folks are not allowing black people a place in their neighborhood as they wish to keep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald Waknuk is the hometown of David, Petra and Rosalind; the three had to flee their home by night when they got news of Sally and Katherine being captured. David and Petra left home and travelled down a path to the riverbank, where they met up with Rosalind. For their travel they utilized two great horses owned by Rosalind's father to go on their journey for safety. David, Petra and Rosalind travelled in a southwesterly direction until they came to a stop in the early morning. The three started their journey again in the late of the evening through the night in the same direction till they came to a stop in Labrador, where Petra was sending letter shapes to the Sealand woman of their current location. They continued on their journey until the break of dawn and then rested. Just after sunrise Michael informed them that he and the search party were on their trail and they needed to get going. David, Petra and Rosalind hustled their things together and made their way, continuing in a southwesterly direction into Wild Country. They made another stop in Wild Country to eat. When it was a little darker they pushed on towards the Fringes, until they were captured by the Fringes people and taken even further into the Fringes. Eventually, the Sealand woman rescued David, Petra and Rosalind and they travelled to Zealand via a flying craft that she had came in during the evening. • 12. Hafu Essay Hafu is the term used in Japan to describe children of half–Japanese descent. This term is derived from the English " Half " which, when used in the Japanese language, indicates that a person is only half of the Japanese culture. According to " Hafu Japanese " the term Hafu originated in the 1970s and is now the most commonly used label for half–Japanese children (Hafu Japanese, 2010). Being called half might seem like an insult to some people, in Japan it is not really meant this way. In a YouTube video Japanese got asked about what image they have about Hafu, most of them answered that they wanted to be a Hafu as well. Almost all the answers to this question were positive; they are pretty, they have long legs, they have the best of both worlds. The majority of the Japanese seem to have positive views on what it is like to be a Hafu, but they might not have a proper understanding of what it is like to be Hafu. So despite the positive image the Japanese have, life in Japan is not easy for people with mixed roots (Views from the street on Hafu, 2010). Japan is a very homogenous country. Research from 2013 shows that foreigners make up 1.5% of the populace of Japan (Japan Times, 2013). While the number might have risen quite a bit now in 2015, the discrimination against ... Global Business Cultural Analysis Of Japan Essay Global Business Cultural Analysis: Japan James Hendricks Liberty University Global Business Cultural Analysis: Japan Technological advancement has made globalization an inevitable factor that businesses of the future will need to consider in order to be successful. Increasingly, companies that have been solely domestic are branching out internationally for a wide variety of reasons, but in the end, it's all about making profits from previously inaccessible market segments. The scaling is vast: international businesses can be as small as a stay at home mother that just created a Limited Liability Corporation to sell a unique product to the world, to an already established international businesses conglomerate with offices across the globe. Specifically, this work takes a glimpse into the culture of Japan as it relates to certain aspects that greatly effect international business. Secondly, there will be a discussion of how Japan is conducting its business internationally and how aspects of Japanese culture lead to either their success or failure on the international business stage. Thirdly, there will be a comparison as to how the cultural differences between Japan and the United States can be a barrier to successful trade and business and specific items that companies from the United States need to keep in mind when conducting business in Japan. • 16. Stereotypes In The Outsiders Stereotype; a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. In the realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, and in the short story, "Geeks Bearing Gifts", written by Ron Koertge, stereotypes are defied by ordinary people. In The Outsiders, Johnny Cade and Darry Curtis face many struggles throughout their lives. Their town in separated into two: the rich and dangerous Socs, and the quiet, tough Greasers. For them, living dangerously is a reality. As a result of their lifestyle, Johnny has become fearful and Darry is considered the toughest man in the gang. In "Geeks Bearing Gifts" aspiring journalist, Renee, interviews her fellow classmates who are classified as "outcasts." After meeting several students, she realizes her assumptions were incorrect about them. After reading both of these stories, the reader learns that our thoughts about others often revolve around stereotypes and assumptions, but most of these ideas that we have about other people are proven wrong. In The Outsiders, Johnny and Darry find themselves struggling with the stereotype society has labeled them with. While in the park, Johnny and his friend Ponyboy are jumped by five Socs. Unexpectedly, Johnny stands up for himself and protects his friend. On page 56, the text states, "'I killed him,' he said slowly. 'I killed that boy'. Bob the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still." This demonstrates that although Johnny is considered a timid and innocent person, he proves that how he acts in the gang is different from how he acts in the outside world. This is unexpected because Johnny is always the one being cared for in the gang. However, he protected his friend by killing someone. Johnny's actions prove that our assumptions about others are wrong. This matters because society needs to realize that based on stereotypes, we incorrectly judge others before getting to know them. Johnny is a clear example of what happens when one is judged based on assumptions. Another example of this theme is reflected when Darry breaks down at a hospital after finding out that his younger brother, Ponyboy, is going to be okay. On pages 98–99, the text states, "'Darry, ... There are three principal factors which affects interpersonal relationship at workplace, I think; tendency of finding a value in working hard, the hidden but strict rule of having worship for the boss, and the subjection of women. I will take up each factor. First of all, I'll describe the effect of Japanese tendency of finding value in working hard. One of the reason is that Japanese are concerned about how they are perceived by the others. I don't know the absolute reason but Japanese tend to be a group oriented. Death is the worst thing that can ever happen to a person, and is just as bad for the people who are close to them. There is an emptiness that comes with the death of a loved one or someone close. That blankness in the world does something to the people who encompass that person who passed. It changes people, whether it is for better or worse. Death is a part of life and depending on how people are affected can dictate whether it will leave a positive or negative change to their life and that conversion happened to me with the death of my mother, Fran. The inferiority of slaves to their masters was expressed in several different ways, but all were designed to secure a dependent relationship of the slave to the master. Masters often viewed their slaves as deserving of a moral or religious upbringing, and saw themselves as responsible for completing this task. Paternalism transformed the relationship of slave and master into one of child and parent. In such cases the slave may have been spared the abuse of a cruel master, but suffered no less subordination. The two words, "simple" and "child," strip Tom of his adulthood. Essentially, Tom is incapable of independent thought, putting him in the dependent position as a victim who needs to be saved. There is no risk of Tom attempting an escape because he is not allowed to imagine a life beyond his present condition. As the protagonist of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Stowe uses Tom to make a point not just about the inhumanity which Tom is a product of, but of the model Christian who is submissive. Stowe looks to the obedient slave to set an example of a model Christian. The passive, submissive slave has the same faith in his or her master as the good Christian should: thus, Tom proves to be both a good slave and a good Christian. It then becomes the responsibility of the master to raise his or her slaves as they would a child, instilling in them Christian virtues, which consequently stifles the desire to be free. This parallel is seen in a discussion between Eliza and her husband George, "Well,' said Eliza mournfully, 'I always thought that I must obey my master and mistress, or I couldn't be a good Christian." (16) Her husband agrees: in the case of a kind master it makes sense for a slave to obey. It is significant that George agrees with Eliza, it is his tyrannical master which prompts his escape. Unfortunately, that is how the world works, people are labeled and associated with certain groups. These labels force people into thinking that they have to look a certain way or follow popular trends. Just like Susannah Calahan in Brain on Fire, she suffers from an illness and during her recovery she criticizes herself based off of what society expects her to look like. Social norms are deeply entrenched in everyone's life to the point where Susannah tries to hide her sickness and put on a strong face just to avoid being labeled as abnormal. There is a sense of her fear of being ridiculed and alienated from her loved ones since she does not fulfill the common image society has on women. Susannah is embarrassed by her actions, her appearance and she refuses to accept that her new–self is even a part of her identity. Susannah does not view her post illness appearance as acceptable despite having no control over the outcome. Identity is in fact a matter of social construction since Susannah's self esteem and perception of herself deteriorates as she finds herself deviating from what is considered normal. One important aspect of Susannah's illness is that it causes her to dramatically shift from a sociable person to someone who cannot hold a conversation. The New York Times interprets the results of a study published by the University of Cambridge and University of Melbourne on the effects of the Paracingulate sulcus on how people monitor what is reality. The Study, "A SpecificBrain Structural Basis for Individual Differences in Reality Monitoring," examines a variety of research on the matter and presents the hypothesis that the people with out a Paracingulate sulcus will have poorer monitoring of memory compared to people with a clear Paracingulate sulcus on either one or both sides of the brain. The article was chosen for more then its connection to cognition and what is being studied in class. The article interested both participants in more ways than one. The idea of reality being a perception that changes from person to person is not something people think about explicitly. • 33. Japanese Culture And Cultural Differences I have decided to discuss the Japanese culture because we have the foreign exchange students visiting us October seventeenth though the nineteenth and I thought it would be nice to learn about their culture beforehand. I also would like to learn more about the Japanese culture because when I become a nurse, I want to be aware of cultural differences. I will be giving a brief overview of the culture, talking about their religion, community customs, family roles and organization, how they communicate, and their healthcare as well as how they view nurses. As a nurse taking care of a Japanese person, they should be aware of a few cultural differences. First of all, a nurse should greet a Japanese patient the same as an American patient, with a handshake and calling them by their last name. In Japan, people will typically bow to each other when they first meet, but if they are in the US, a handshake will be equivalent. One example of a cultural difference is that as an American, we like to have eye contact while speaking with people, and it is considered rude not to make eye contact, but to a Japanese person, making eye contact for more than a few seconds is considered rude. Also, if you are taking care of a Japanese person and there is a language barrier, it is good to know that many Japanese patients will most likely be able to write out what they are trying to say. Another example is that, "Many traditional Japanese have very good control over their body language, so it may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Why I Want For The People Who Will Influence My Identity... Ever since I was little, my mom has repeated little sayings to my brothers and I. One of her favorites was, "You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose." While this research project is not headed in the direction of nose picking, as I have gotten older, this quote has caused me to reflect on the choices I have made in terms of who I am. If I do indeed hold the power to choose the people who will influence my identity the strongest, why did I not choose those who have allowed me to be authentic until now? What is authenticity? "Being authentic means something like living in accordance with one's own unique values and ideals," but it is greater than simply being oneself, it is "resisting the imposition of the values and ideals of others" (Pierce 441) as well. Therefore, authenticity is also neglecting to succumb to the beliefs of others to stay true to one's own beliefs. However, this does not mean that authenticity is static, "an individual should engage in a process of constructing his personhood.... His task in life becomes searching for his true personhood" (381). Personhood should be a journey of finding oneself, figuring out who one is and what one believes in. The act of evolving is part of the discovery, but when "their acts are guided by other people's ideas of who they should be" (379) it leads to inauthenticity because the change is made solely to fit in. All in all, authenticity is based heavily on truth, because "[it] ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Japan 's First Contact With The Gospel Before we delve deep in the designated people group, it is key to focus on Japan as a whole. Japan's first contact with the gospel came through the Catholic Missionary Francis Xavier in 1549. Thanks to Portuguese traders the doors were opened for Jesuit missionaries to set foot on the islands of Japan. Interestingly, the trend of missionaries arriving in foreign locations, which would then be followed by trade, was not the case for Japan. Instead, trade preceded the missionaries and allowed them access to this closed nation. At that time, the feudal Lords welcomed anything that would benefit the increase of trade. So, the question emerged of whether or not to trade, since trade brought the promise of financial gain. By 1597 the nation saw its highest percentage of converts with roughly 300,000 converts to the Christian faith. Many of these converts did not know the deep meaning of being a Christian. Many times the word of God was preached by the edge of the sword. Many Buddhist priests were given the choice of banishment or to accept the Christian faith. In 17th century Japan, Christianity was prevalent throughout the land. However, with the introduction of the Tokugawa rule, Christianity soon lost its foothold in which a strict social order marked by its isolationist approach took over the country. In 1614, an edict was sent throughout the land ordering that Christianity should no longer be practiced and missionaries to be banished from Japan. Churches were destroyed and ... A number of police stations, barangay halls, even public walls and lamp posts all over the country are fully covered with signage of missing and found persons. However, it takes a very long time to find a missing and found person using such media. For one thing, most people are so caught up in their own daily lives that they merely sympathize, or even ignore, the flyers that are begging anyone to notify the ones who posted them if they have seen the missing person. Sometimes, other people post over the notices of missing people and so, the missing people are not known. There are even times that the missing person simply does not want to be found and went away to a distant land. Interestingly enough, despite the mass amount people, every shopper is classified as a consumer from one of only three main categories. One can assume a shoppers category by examining the shopper's cart since the products which they have bought determines their category. Every shopper is categorized as either a proactive shopper, an aggressive shopper, or a wasteful shopper. The shopper that only buys the items on his list is the person who makes shopping quick, easy, and affordable. Those who are proactive and live busy lives most likely fall into this category of shoppers. My father and I are both great examples of the proactive shopper. Prior to my Bar–Mitzvah my mother ... After picking shoes I noticed my grandmother heading towards the cashier with a cart filled to the brim with unwanted shoes and clothing. In contrast to the other shoppers, the last type of shopper never even purchases his desired item, instead, he wastes his time and money on things he does not need. The final sect of shoppers is arguably the most foolish approach to shopping. This shopper is the person who buys everything except for the product he intended to buy. One can entitle this shopper as the wasteful shopper because of all the time and money wasted on the needless items they purchase. Unfortunately, my aunt often shops as a wasteful shopper. Many years ago I went shopping for towels with my aunt. We went to Walmart but, their towels were all overpriced. We decided it was not worth the money; however, according to her, this was not a valid reason to leave the store.
