2. Toucan No, it isn´t.
• Teaching approach: based on the Natural Approach (Stephen Krashen) and
the PPP method. The students are encouraged to speak English naturally,
without being forced to do it.
• Materials and resources: computer, projector and screen, internet
connection, speakers, animal flashcards in a PowerPoint presentation, small
cards with the names and pictures of the animals, animal puppets.
• Pedagogical use of ICT in class: the students watch three videos. The first
one acts as a hello routine, which attempts to activate students, whereas the
second video is to introduce the topic of the lesson. Finally, they watch a
goodbye video that contains a lot of animals and funny rhymes.
• Seating arrangement: first, the students sit on the floor as a horseshoe and
watch the videos and flashcards. Then, they stand up to sing and dance. They
sit on the floor again and finally they stand up again to dance the goodbye
song.
• Possible problems / difficulties and possible solutions during the class:
in case there wasn´t internet connection, I would download the video before
the class. If it didn´t work, I would sing and use the small cards to present the
animals.
The students may get distracted or not pay attention at some point in the
class. If that happened, I would say: ´1, 2, 3, eyes on me!´
• Potential problems students may have with the language: the students
may not understand one of the words. In that case, I would ask several
students different questions until everybody understands. If someone seemed
not to understand, I would encourage the students to help him or her.
• Assessment: what will be assessed and how: the students singing the
song is a form of assessment as well as the final speaking activity, when the
students are to talk about the animals they like.
ROUTINE (5´)
Purpose: to engage students, to make them focus on the lesson and to revise
language structures.
Students listen to the following song:
The teacher says: ´Hello everyone! Let´s sing a hello song! (and she calls for all the
names of the children).
3. Hello, Benja (example)
Hello, Benja
How are you?
How are you?
Fine, so-so or bad?
WARM UP: (5´)
Purpose: to prepare the students for the lesson, and to introduce the topic.
The teacher shows the students a poster of a jungle from THE ANIMAL BOOGIE,
and she says:
T: ´Look! What is it? (they´ll probably say ´jungla´) I like the jungle. What is it? Is it a
bear? (pointing at the monkey) The students say: ´noo. Monkey´. ´It´s a monkey!´
The students name the animals they know.
Transition: The teacher says: we are going to watch a video about animals in the
jungle, OK? (enthusiastically) and the children answer yes!
PRESENTATION: (5´)
Purpose: to continue showing the students the new contents to learn, and to guide
the students into practice.
The students watch the following video. As they watch, the teacher asks the students
is it a..? before the animals appear, and then they say the names of the animals:

DEVELOPMENT (10´)
Purpose: for the students to practise the new items presented in the class.
(The previous class, the students were given a sheet of paper with some animals in
them. They painted them before they left) This class, they are going to build a jungle
poster.
´Remember these? (pointing at the sheets they painted) Today we are going to cut
them´ (miming the word cut). The students cut the animals while the teacher asks
them: Is it a..? and they say ´yess´, or ´noo´ (5´) The teacher brought trees, grass
and plants already cut.
Now we are going to create a poster! (pointing at a large piece of green paper)
Excellent! Now, let´s stick the animals in the poster (bringing the poster to the table).
(5´)
Transition: The teacher says: Great! Now let´s look at the poster together!
CLOSURE (5´)
Purpose: to check the students´ understanding of the topic dealt in the class.
The teacher asks the students questions about the poster:
´Is it a giraffe?´ The students say: ´yes´. So the teacher says ´yes, it is´! Is it a hippo?
´Noo´ ´No, it isn´t.´ What is it? ´ ´Elephant´. ´It´s an elephant! And so on with the rest
of the animals.
The teacher says: ´Now we will watch a last video! Let´s sing together!

Observations
Nice lesson, Nadya! I think you should exploit The Animal Boogie song more, it is
really catchy! You can even play the song while they are making the poster, it
would provide a lively atmosphere to the lesson.
Have a great time!
