VALLADOLID
The history of Valladolid goes back to the Middle Ages. Although
there are indications of settlements belonging to the Lower
Paleolithic, Valladolid did not have a stable population until the
Middle Ages. During the repopulation of the Plateau, Alfonso VI
entrusted Count Pedro Ansúrez with his settlement, granting him
the lordship of it in 1072. From this date his growth began,
endowing himself with different institutions; Collegiate Church,
University or Royal Alcázar. This allowed him to become seat of
the Castilian court and later between 1601 and 1606 capital of the
Spanish Empire until the capital finally went to Madrid. From
then on, a period of decadence begins that will only be saved with
the arrival of the railroad, in the 19th century, and with the
industrialization of the city, already in the 20th century.
