3. Biomedical engineering
Biomedical engineering is the result of applying the principles and engineering techniques
to the field of medicine. Its principal activities are the design and construction of medical
devices and technologies such as medical equipment, prostheses, medical devices,
diagnostic devices (medical imaging) and therapy. Also involved in the management or
administration of technical resources linked to a system of hospitals. It combines
engineering expertise with medical needs for profit in health care. Tissue culture, as well
as the production of certain drugs, usually considered part of bioengineering.
4. Areas of biomedical engineering knowledge
Biomedical Engineering is widely recognized as a multidisciplinary field, the result of a broad spectrum of disciplines that influence from various
fields and sources. Because of their extreme diversity, it is not surprising that bioengineering focus on one aspect in particular. There are many
different breakdowns of this engineering disciplines, often unfolds in:
1.biomagnetismo brain and techniques
2.Creation biomedical imaging and optical
3.biomateriales
4 biomechanics and biotransport
5.product health
6.instrumentación medical
7.ingeniería molecular and cellular
8.biología Systems
Silicone breast implants, eg biocompatible material application and aesthetic surgery.
In other cases, the disciplines within the biongeniería are divided into the proximity to other engineering fields more entrenched, which typically
include:
Chemical engineering - often associated with biochemical engineering, cellular, molecular, new materials and fabrics, etc..
Clinical engineering-often associated with medical engineering or hospital engineering, management and maintenance of medical equipment in
a clinic or hospital.
Electronic engineering - often associated with bioelectricity, Bioinstrumentation, imaging, and medical instrumentation.
Mechanical engineering - often associated with biomechanics, biotransport and biological systems modeling.
Optics and optical engineering - medical optics, imaging and instrumentation.
5. Biomedical engineering field of work.
Biomedical Engineer may serve as a research and new biomedical equipment designer , consultant
biomedical technology management , manager , technical advisor and project engineer in the
modernization of technological equipment of hospitals , head of maintenance in hospitals ,
supervisor and instructor of medical and paramedical personnel in their area of competence , chief
of clinical engineering department , manager or commercial developer for companies producing or
marketing of medical equipment, hospitals advisor for the implementation and monitoring of
national and international standards of biosafety and regulating the use of biomedical
technological equipment . It can also serve as a university lecturer in areas related to biomedical
engineering.
needs to have biomedical engineers was evident in the extent to which the technology applied to
solve health problems has been increasingly available to hospitals which often acquire
dysfunctional teams or too expensive to even are relegated in use because doctors do not have the
foundation to set them up , as they grow health problems by the armed conflict that causes
thousands of people to lose their members , and the need to start developing technology instead of
always have to be imported , which represents high costs to the health system and the patients
themselves .
