2. As I have recently mentioned, the purpose of a music video is to
promote a band or artists and to sell their certain star image to
attract niche or wide range of audiences. There for it is important
that audiences are able to access music videos. The media in
many ways have made the consumption of music videos easy for
audiences. Over time music videos have become more and more
accessible through the media and technology. Audiences are able
to download and stream music video straight to their smart
phones and portable devices to watch at their own demand.
3. The Internet
The internet is a very useful tool, which can be used for almost anything in any
given situation. Sites such as Google and YouTube have become increasingly
popular. Audiences are now able to catch up with their favorite artists or bands
music videos for free when ever they please. The power of word and mouth is
used via the internet through users sharing links to other various different
social media sites. People spend plenty of time on social media sites, which
makes music videos more apparent to users.
Youtube was launched on February 14th 2005. It was set up by Steve Chen, Chad
Hurley and Jawed Karim. The men started up the site and ran it from 2005-2006
when they sold the site to Google for $1.65 billion. This extreme investment
from Goofle has payed off because Yotube is one of the most visted websites on
the web.
Before youtube made an appearance there were no websites dedicated to
showing music videos for free. It is now the biggest website for audience
consumption of music videos, Before the internet it was harder for audiences in
other countris to access music videos.
4. Music TeleVision
MTV's programming is primarily targeted at today's
teenagers and young adults. It consists mostly of
scripted series, reality series and shows music videos.
MTV started in the 80s and has become more and more
popular around the world. MTV also have separate
channels dedicated to a certain type of genre, making it
easier for different types of audiences to access the type
of artists they are interested in.
5. Itunes
Audiences can now download and stream music videos
onto their smart phones and other devices online via
Itunes. This way of downloading and streaming also
creates more money for the company Itunes its self, and
for the artist.
Target audiences for music videos are usually for
teenagers and smart phone users. Streaming is now
extremely popular as audiences can access music videos
on demand for free when ever they like.
6. Piracy
A major site responsible for all kinds of illegal downloads
from music films was Pirate Bay. In 2009, the website’s
founders were put on trial in Sweden, they were being
charged with showing material that was illegally downloaded
material and copy righted. Alothough that piracy is morally
wrong and does not benefit the artists or producers in any
way, it is still a popular way of audiences accessing music
videos.
The matter of piracy may not concern artists with a wide
range audience. However artists and musicians with a close
niche audience may be affected by piracy.
