    2. 2. Defining a Robot <ul><li>A robot is a machine that gathers information from it’s surroundings through sensors and uses it’s program to determine what to do, an example is the RCX it might move forward until it detects black (sensor) then spin and reverse (program). </li></ul>

What is A Robot? <ul><li>Machines are different to robots, machines require a human operator, the idea behind robots is that they operate by themselves and use their programming to determine what it will do. </li></ul><ul><li>Basically machines you just push along and they’ll do a task robots you need to command </li></ul>
    4. 4. Military Robots Military Robots are used whenever an operation is to dangerous for a human or to help humans gain the upper hand in war, such as bomb/explosive disposal (ACER) , carrying equipment (BigDog), destroying enemy vehicles (Goliath), flying planes (nEURON [not fully operational]), information gathering (Dragon Runner). Robots have been used for military applications for many years, they were even used in World War 2. Dragon Runner is light enough to be carried in a soldiers pack. Military Robots <ul><li>Military Robots work like other robots but the conditions that they work under are often more stressful on equipment and need several things to be done at once for example moving on ground and relaying images to a control unit. Many military robots are controlled by soldiers from an operating station, this is because many robots do not have the processing power (decision making) or flexibility (in different situations) of a human. </li></ul>Information from TALON goes to… The control station where commands are given and information is received The information/commands are sent back to TALON which then acts on them.

Military Robots <ul><li>Robots built for military purposes need to have stronger parts and </li></ul><ul><li>Manufacturers are trying to make robots more humanlike so they are able to be adept at multiple things </li></ul><ul><li>Today's robots mostly can only be good at one task </li></ul><ul><li>The size of the robot is important if it is small it can avoid detection if it is large it can be a target but contain more power </li></ul><ul><li>Many robots like ACER can be outfitted with many different pieces of equipment due to their modular design . </li></ul>
    7. 7. Military Robots Powered exoskeletons or power armour are being explored for military purposes, they are robots because they must react to the users needs. The armour must adapt to the users needs, AI (artificial intelligence) is trying to achieve this. Mechs are giant mechanical robots often in a humanlike form. Mechs have appeared in many games and movies and many companies are trying to build an operational mechs. Contains many elements of a robot

TALON <ul><li>4 types of the TALON: </li></ul><ul><li>Regular: has sensors and a robotic arm, used to disarm explosives </li></ul><ul><li>Recon TALON: same as above does not have robotic arm instead has day/night camera and listening devices (microphone). </li></ul><ul><li>SWORDS TALON: The armed version of the TALON, can be equipped with small arms, has been used in Iraq. </li></ul><ul><li>HAZMAT: has chemical, gas, temperature and radiation sensors. </li></ul>SWORD TALON Variants of TALON

    11. 11. Conclusion <ul><li>Requires the development of an android robot, </li></ul><ul><li>The other obstacle is making the robots work independently, without the humans robots will need more processing power and better programming. </li></ul>
