Problem of North Korea
"Jeon Wook–pyo, now 68, was among 25 crewmen aboard two fishing boats captured by North
Korea in the Yellow Sea in 1972. He escaped North Korea in August 2013 and returned to South
Korea September the same year" (BBC13). In the current status with North Korea some people do
not know why there is conflict between North Korea and the rest of the world, or as to what they did
to enrage the world. The big problem with North Korea is that, in accords with the United Nations
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, they have violated many of the basic rights of the
individual. Some of these violations are directly in conflict with South Korea and threatening to the
surrounding countries. Which may lead to war between two or more of the ... Show more content on

Once this was done the basics of the plan would be discussed with all nations to ensure that it would
cause outrage in other nations. The basic idea of the operation would be to sneak into North Korea
and incite a revolution at every hard labor camp in order to carve a path to the capital and other key
points.
The next step to putting the plan in to action afterwards would be to first hold a convention or
meeting by trusted United Nations representatives that could be trusted to not leak information of
the meeting to North Korea or opposing nations. After that would be choosing military members of
each respective nations who would be most qualified for this type of operation. Each member would
need to have been or put through rigorous survival, stealth, and torture preparation training in order
to survive in the harsh conditions of North Korea. The following step would be to safely get the
squad(s) in to North Korea. Night would be the most desirable time to start the operation by ground
force; Aerial attempt would be much less so due to the fact that the possibility the aircraft would be
detected. The next step would be to infiltrate the closest labor camp to the border and cause a riot
and or take control of the area to allow more troops and

North Korea Communication
Communicating in North Korea In the United States, Americans are given the freedom to
communicate through social media, which has taken away the priority of verbal communication. In
other cultures, namely North Korea, communication isn't allowed through technology. North Korea
is a communist country making technology unattainable due to its isolation from the rest of the
world. The life of a typical North Korean is simple: do what the government expects. Quite the
opposite, in the United States an average American can do and say what they believe in. In the realm
of communication, both countries have their differences and similarities; language, individualism,
power distance, gender roles, and other aspects make North Korea diverse. In North Korea the
standard language is based on Seoul dialect; they use English and Japanese loanwords in order to
communicate with one another (International North Korea). Koreans value how they communicate
–– especially with people they have known for a long time. The North Korean culture employs an
indirect communication used to politely criticize the other person. One way of indirect
communication is exemplified by nodding one's head ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
North Koreans think thirty minutes into the day because their culture focuses on short–time
orientation. Short–time orientation consists of to–do–lists, chores, and deadlines controlling one's
life until one has finished a task. Much like North Korea, Americans focus on getting the job done
and then move on to the next; if there is one thing that both cultures have in common is how hard
working the people are. In communicating with others, North Koreans tend to shy away from saying
negative words and making hurtful gestures; in this way of communication, they are categorized as a
high–context culture. In a high–context culture the communication is indirect, unlike Americans
who don't mind telling others how it

Consequences Of The Denuclearization Of North Korea
The North Korean regime presents the United States with complex national security interests
concerning denuclearization and stability in the Korean Peninsula. The principal challenge to a
nuclear free Korean Peninsula and East Asia region is the denuclearization of North Korea. The
primary challenge to stability within the Korean Peninsula and the East Asia region is military
conflict. United States national security interests concerning North Korea comprise a Korean
Peninsula void of nuclear arms and stability within the Korean Peninsula and East Asia region. The
North Korea regime threatens United States national security interests through "...public threats,
defiance of the international community, confrontational military posturing, cyber activities, and
potential for internal instability...." A survival or existential level of intensity of a national interest,

"Pyongyang's enshrinement of the possession of nuclear weapons in its constitution... suggests that
Kim does not intend to negotiate them away at any price." Authorities on North Korea concur
that,"...the timeframe for conducting military action without the risk of a North Korean nuclear
attack against U.S. territory is narrowing." The denuclearization of North Korea poses limited
alternatives and is progressing towards a decisive decision point concerning the employment of
military force. If the United States interests of a nuclear free Korean Peninsula are genuinely a
"survival" level, it may lack any viable options except the use of preemptive military force. The use
of military force would significantly influence stability within the Korean Peninsula and East Asia

"Paranoid: North Korea's Computer Operating System Mirrors Its Political One." Reuters. Thomson
Reuters, 2015. Web. 28 Mar. 2016.
James Pearson and Jeremy Wagstaff analyze Red Star OS, the internal operating system used by the
few North Koreans privileged enough to own a computer. He compares the OS to the North Korean
political system: malicious, intrusive, and authoritarian.
Red Star OS was developed by the North Korean government to make its computer infrastructure
more independent and free of backdoors and security vulnerabilities introduced by potentially
malicious third party software vendors. The latest version of Red Star OS is based on Fedora, a
popular GNU/Linux distribution. Although the Fedora Project actively promotes user freedom,
Fedora's open–source nature has enabled the North Korean government to create a derivative that
directly contradicts Fedora's principles. On the surface, Red Star OS closely resembles OS X.
Underneath, however, lie hidden processes that surveil and supervise the user. The system does not
allow many of its core functions to be disabled, such as the firewall and antivirus system. Users
attempting to tamper with the system may be greeted with an error message or a system halt. In
addition to limiting user freedom, Red Star OS also aims to thwart the underground exchange of
unauthorized media. Because much of this illegal content is shared person–to–person via USB
mass–storage devices, the government often

North America Vs North Korea Essay
Imagine a life living in North Korea. A country so isolated and cut off from the rest of the world.
After many years after the war, North Korea and America have not been at a complete truce. North
Korea holds America responsible for tearing their country into two parts, North and South.
Nevertheless there are many similarities and differences between America and North Korea.
An impoverished country of more than twenty five million people, North Korea, also known as the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) was founded by the revolutionary leader Kim IL
Sung after the end of World War II. North Korea began as an independent kingdom for much of its
long history. Both North and South Korea were under Japanese control in 1905 until the country was
split after the end of World War II. Located in eastern Asia in the northern half of the Korean
Peninsula, bordering the Korea Bay and the Sea of Japan, North Korea sits in a strategic location
bordering China, Russia, and South Korea. North Korea is slightly larger than the state of Virginia,
but slightly smaller than the state of Mississippi and is mostly comprised of large mountains and

A threat that a few may underestimate in a way. Because of their advance in nuclear capability and
missile systems North Korea in the next ten years could possibly be the biggest threat to the United
States and surrounding countries. Because they are so isolated and living in increased famine and
poverty like a wild animal backed into a corner, North Korea one day could feel like they have
nothing left to lose and feel as if they need to resort to other means such as a major conflict in order
to preserve their lifestyle and way of life. If a major conflict was to break out with North Korea then
we have to consider all other possible countries involved, such as Russia and China who could side
with North Korea and fight against the United

Totalitarian Brutality In North Korea
Despite these cruelties, there may be a silver lining in the future for these workers. Just a few days
ago on May 4th the House of Representatives passed a new bill that will impose new sanctions on
North Korea (NY Post). These sanctions are aimed at North Korea's use of foreign slave labor, at an
attempt to limit the regime's physical cash flow as much as possible, while simultaneously requiring
the Trump administration to decide whether or not to label North Korea as a state sponsor of
terrorism within the next 90 days (NY Post). If so, it will lead to another round of sanctions that may
constrict North Korea even further (NY Post). If the regime is unable to reap the rewards of some of

Kim Jong Un's iron fist extends to all domains of the North Korean life. In the digital realm, the

part of a hacking elite look for expanding the military capabilities on North Korea via the digital

education and job opportunities, ensuring only the most loyal of citizens will be able to sustain a
well providing job, but no matter what job is at stake, it all must serve the wishes of the Kim
Regime. The power of the Kim Regime extends outwards into dozens of outside countries, where
laborers are forced to work indefinitely in cruel conditions, however recent moves by the Trump
administration may put change North Korea's ability to exploit the labor. In addition to immense
human rights violations of the state–sponsored labor, nothing quite compares to the Nazi–esque

The Pros And Cons Of Invading North Korea
If the United States were to become a real empire tomorrow, I would hope the leaders of our empire
would invade North Korea. North Korea is one of he United States most feared threats. Invading
North Korea would make the United States as a whole, feel more protected or secure. Many reasons
come to mind when thinking about invading North Korea such as, nuclear bomb threats, partial
benefit towards North Korea, and the advantages and disadvantages.
Nuclear bomb threats to the United States, I believe, is the main reason invading them would be the
best idea. In my opinion, I don't think North Korea's nuclear bombs have the right requirements to
hit the United States, but they are still a treat. North Korea may say they have the technology and

Russia and North Korea Relations
Russia and North Korea have declared 2015, the year of the 70th anniversary of the end of World
War II as "Friendship Year". Since last year, Russia and North Korea have increasingly improved
their ties with each other. The growing ties and relationship between the countries has got the world
thinking about the intentions of their alliance. More recently, North Korea's Kim Jong Un has
confirmed his visit to Russia. This will be the leader's first visit to anywhere since taking on the
position of North Korea's leader after the death of his father, Kim Jong–il.

Others say that Russia has nothing much to gain from its alliance with North Korea. Russia has been
sanctioned by the United Nations and shunned by them because of Russia's invasion in Ukraine, and
so this is just a 'screw you' policy of Russia's against the U.S. (Jaffe). What they mean is that the
Russian President's ego is hurt and is willing to do anything to show the West and Europe that they
still are able to make alliances. A former U.S. ambassador to South Korea stated "I don't think the
Russians are any more enthusiastic about the North Koreans than we are; it's their way of putting
their finger in our eye."
The fact is that no alliance comes without benefits in the political world. North Korea could offer
Russia a useful trade route and also a path for an oil pipeline. Another plan by Russia is to invest
$25 billion in the restoration of North Korea's railway system, but on a condition. North Korea will
have to provide to Russian investors access to its mineral resources. There also have been plans for a
series of military exercises for 2015. These would be joint exercises and most likely be conducted in
Russia, thus meaning that their military alliance would be benefitting too. According to reports,
Russia plans to increase bilateral trade almost tenfold to $1 billion by the year 2020 (Ryall).

Cohen, an experienced writer for CNN, suggests that North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un is
preparing himself for a nuclear was that only he is going to start and persuading people that Un is
not prepared to rule North Korea. He develops this claim by first telling who he is interviewing and
why this man is important. He tells the reader that this man escaped North Korea with his family

He feels that his power and his people's feeble mindedness may be in danger of change. Cohen's
purpose is to allow the people wondering where the future lies, to have a glimpse into North Korea.
Giving people information about what is happening on the inside of the secluded country gives
everyone a chance to see what may happen in the future. He establishes a very straight forward tone
while describing the situation to the people of America. Zachary Cohen utilizes repetition
throughout his article, for example, "As long as Kim Jong Un is in power, ....consolidated power by
sheltering the North Korean....maintain his unquestioned grip on power ..." The effect of the
repetitiveness of power is that the condition of North Korea is shown. Throughout the article, it is
proven that North Korea is a power hungry, demanding, unstable country. Cohen tells in his article
that one of the many reasons Kim Jong Un is so obsessed with power is because he feels that he is in
danger of losing his power. If the people that he has brainwashed gain the knowledge of what he is
doing is to them, he runs a very high risk of being overthrown. In addition, the author continuously
puts digression into his article. Cohen is

Essay On North Korea Genocide
Genocide's have been going on throughout history and have had different effects on the people
around them. Some of these genocide's have been from political leaders, others not. Genocide's can
target a certain race, ethnicity, or gender. Some genocide's do not target but in most cases they do.
These genocide's are a terrible thing that we still haven't learned from. The fact that they are still
going on is reason enough. The Holocaust and North Korea are both genocide's that have and still
are ruining the lives of those involved. A lot of genocide's have their similarities and differences but
there is no real way to compare any two genocide's. They are both murders.

Kim has used nearly all of the income of money on nuclear weapons and other testings of the sort.
In the article by world affairs journal, they say that," There is unparalleled humanitarian and human
rights emergency unfolding in the country every day." Because of all the weapons testing this causes
a lack of money for citizens allowing for thousands of people to starve to death all around. This
genocide isn't primarily targeted towards any one group but is instead depriving people of their basic
rights. They are getting tortured, killed in masses, and having their freedoms ripped away. In an
article by hir.harvard.edu they said that," Hundereds of thousands of North Koreans have fled to
China to survive. The majority are women, 80 percent of whom are sex–trafficked or sold into
forced marriages." An example of having freedoms ripped away would be the camps set up in North
Korea. Christians and other people of religion are not allowed to pray anymore and people get
tortured to death. The laws are so strict that even if you minorly step out of line you could get killed.

The Leadership and Government of North Korea
In North Korea there are approximately 24 million or more residents. North Korean believe that
their leaders are saints. Kim Jong II was labeled as heaven sent by propagandists. They are
suppressed by their country and are instilled in the Juche Ideology. About 154,000 North Koreans
are in prison camps, there are six camps surrounded by electrical barbed wire. If you do something
that the North Korean government believe is against them, your whole family will serve your
punishment with you. In the camps the daily struggles are torture, slave labor, malnutrition and
public execution. Approximately forty percent of prisoners die of malnutrition. The internet is
unattainable with access only by granted by the government. Reporters that traveled to North Korea

Men don't know that women menstruate or what it even means until they reach their mid twenties.
Marriage is only allowed with in your social class, which is determined by birth. North Koreans do
not have much under the totalitarian system. There is no free time and even if they did have free
time there is nothing to do for them to enjoy. Girls are not allowed to ride a bicycle, it is considered
lascivious. Kim II Sung implemented women's right to work, rights of free marriage and divorce and

Engagement With North Korea Essay
Engagement with North Korea did not start with the Clinton Administration, in 1988 President
Reagan's "modest initiative" enabled unofficial non–governmental visits by North Koreans into the
United States. This gave permission for limited commercial exports of US humanitarian goods to
Pyongyang, and permission for engagement between U.S. diplomats and North Korean officials.
The importance of these engagements should be evaluated in four main policy objectives towards
our national security:
1) Enhance regional stability:
North Korea's geographic position is critical to the national security of the U.S., Japan, South, Korea
and the South Pacific region as a whole. Armed with significant nuclear weapons and the fourth
largest army in the world, the possibility of an unstable North Korea has been avoided for decades,

policy has prevented any threats to the international nonproliferation from a nuclear North Korea
which would have led to the development of nuclear weapons in South Korea, and Japan, and even
the trade of nuclear weapons material or technology. In regard to missiles, the United States has
secured North Korea's announcement of a long–range moratorium in fall 1999 through years of
efforts. Nevertheless, there has been no deal yet to curb North Korea's exports of its indigenous
deployment. Recent threats have prevented the U.S. in moving forward with future deals and
weakens current established ones.
3) Encourage dialogue between North Korea and South Korea:
Domestic and inter–Korean politics heavily influences U.S. policy results; therefore, maintaining a
consistent diplomatic relationship with North Korea is imperative to the dialogue between the North
and South. Inconsistency from President Kim Young Sam was largely due to his failure with
Pyongyang as a result of his approach to policymaking and domestic political pressures. Meanwhile,

The UN's bonus on human rights in North Korea, which assembled proof for nearly a year,

North korea may be one of the most dangerous countries in the world. They claim to have
successfully tested a hydrogen bomb – which can be more powerful than an atom bomb. This is a
major threat to not only the US but the entire world. As the president of the United states, Donald
Trump should not heckle them, but try to make peace with them. One thing i grew up believing is
that there are always two sides to a story. What if the people in North Korea just want to be
respected? The president should arrange a meeting with not only north korea, but with the whole
world in order to create a treaty for peace. We don't really have an idea of what North Korea is

Going back thousands of years in Korean culture, North Korea and South were just a part of the
country Korea. Fast forwarding to the 1950's the northern part of Korea started to become a
communist country. America swooped in and started to shape the southern part of Korea as an ally

Following the stock market crash, South Korea decided to export its music and television to make
revenue from other countries. "Korea is throwing all of its weight and billions of dollars into making
itself the number one exporter of pop culture in the world" (Leong). The stock market crash in 1997
left the country economically crippled, forcing the government to request a 57 billion dollar loan
from the International Monetary Fund ( IMF). The president of that time, Kim Dae–Jung, began to
think of a way that Korea could become different from other countries in order to fix its unstable
economy. Kim always was amazed with how the United States made its revenue from films and how
The United Kingdom made its money from stage musicals. (Leong) This influenced Kim to use
those two countries as benchmarks for creating a pop culture industry for Korea. Kim worked with
the notion that in order for other countries to buy into your pop culture, you had to prove to them
that your nation was cool. The Hallyu or Korean wave started in southeast Asia and has now started

The Issue Of North Korea
The majority of the people who live in the United States and elsewhere around the world, have no
idea the extent of freedom we have in comparison to some. Living in North America, where freedom
runs through the veins of our constitution, it is hard to imagine a world more restrictive than our
own. Things that we take for granted, such as access to the internet, are not available under the same
circumstances in North Korea as they are here. North Korea is the number one most censored
country on the planet, and their strict limitations placed on Internet usage accounts for most of that
ranking, is commonly referred to as a media monopoly and a "mosquito net," because of the intense
control over the information that goes in and out of the country.
The current leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, with the help of the former leaders, have
completely re–programmed the Internet as we know it in order to make it virtually impossible for
their citizens to gain outside information. The country is filled with propaganda, even in places
where it's citizens least expect it. For example, something as subtle as the font size of Kim Jong Un's
name is different. Anytime Kim Jong Un's name is mentioned online, the font of his name is slightly
bigger than all of the text around it. Similarly, instead of a computer screen reading the year "2012"
it reads the year "101"– which represents the number of years since the birth of Kim Jong–Il Sung,
the country's former leader. The government is

Culture and Religion The North Korean culture is very similar to that of the south, over the last 60
years there have distinct differences with the north adapting more cultural influences from
neighboring china. The government controls all books and painting. With these control the freedom
to create art is limited and anything that is negative towards the government is punishable by death.
One of the biggest cultural events in the north is the Mass Games. This event lasts for over two

Discrimination And Oppression In North Korea
There are daily examples of discrimination and oppression throughout the world, but one of the
most substantial examples is in North Korea. North Korea is an Asian country ruled by a totalitarian
dictatorship, although it calls itself a socialist state. The Jong family has ruled North Korea for three
generations since the Korean War. The country is said to be a cult as the country's citizens are forced
to worship the countries leaders, discouraged from holding religion and often punished from doing
so, and are not allowed to leave the country. Additionally, in North Korea there are no human rights.
People are killed or sent to labor camps for even the smallest infractions. North Korea remains one
of the most repressive authority's states on the world. A 2014 United Nations Commission of Inquiry
(COI) report on human rights in North Korea stated that systematic, widespread, and gross human
rights violations committed by the government included murder, enslavement, torture,
imprisonment, rape, forced abortion, and other sexual violence, and constituted crimes against
humanity (McCurry,2017). Under international pressure North Korea always denies these
allegations, but through defectors and satellite images the evidence is clear. Time and time again
North Korea has violated human rights. North Korea is a superior example of oppression and
discrimination because of the countries laws and judicial system, and the treatment of North Korean
citizens.

Similarities Between North Korea And Anthem
The dystopian novel, Anthem, and North Korea have similarities and differences that links them
together as well as distinguish them from one another. North Korea is a country that is ¨protected¨
by their leader, Kim Jong–un, the North Koreans worship Kim Jong–un as a god. In the novel,
Anthem, their government is solely based upon everyone living and working for the benefit of
others, never themselves. Everyone in the society is equal, one is never better than the other. Both
North Korea and Anthem are similar in ways in which they are to never question their leaders, they
are all told what to do and believe. The country and the novel are alike and conflict each other, in

Both are alike in their philosophy that everyone should have the same thoughts and ideas as them. In
Anthem, the surrounding areas around their city is called the Uncharted Forest, their people do not
go in these areas because the believe there are monsters in the forest. North Korea is an isolated
country and the people don't know very much information about the outside world because of their
leader, Kim Jong–un. The differences between Anthem and North Korea are that the country is a
dictatorship and the novel is more of an oligarchy, a government that is ruled by three people. North
Korea is different from Anthem because they don't pair their people up for mating while in the novel
mating partners are paired for a reason. In Anthem, the people don't look up at the Council of Elders

North Korea Political Evaluation
Will North Korea in due time undergo changes or experience implosions sooner or later ? Is a big
changing or a revolution similar to the Arab Spring possible in North Korea?
The answer from me and most scholars and intelligence analysts has been ''NO''
The Pyongyang regime's stability in the aftermath of the events in the Middle East and North Africa
is an ''old question'' that was answered in the 1990s when the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic
of Korea, North Korea) faced the most critical test of its life, and survived. The collapse of the
Soviet Union, the drastic cuts in patron aid from China, and the onset of famine that killed hundreds
of thousands all constituted the ultimate test of DPRK stability, and the regime staggered on ... Show

So Although young leader Kim Jong Un[–>1] has been portrayed as a tough talking leader[–>2]

Hence, changing doesn't only belong to Kim jong un.His family is one of the biggest obstacle

After dead of "Dear Leader" Kim Yong Il , there was many important thing happened in North

One of them was the third and the most powerful nuclear test.
On 12 February 2013, North Korean[–>3] state media announced it had conducted an underground

hit the United States mainland with a missile, whether nuclear–tipped or not. Some of its missiles

But actually the aim was not only to treat all world or USA. Aim was to prove new leader's strength

The Death Of North Korea Essay
Kim Jong Un, the name itself brings fear, terror, and despair in the hearts of millions. This so–called
leader, terrorized the people of North Korea since April 11th, 2012; his cruelty is subject to the fact
he has no mercy towards anyone who speaks against him, no matter if they are a civilian or political
figure. The supreme leader is perceived as a devil, as he has total control over the country, using his
power to manipulate the North Korean media. People are unaware that there is a genocide that is
happening at this very moment. Although, many people may not believe this argument, a genocide is
defined as an act committed with the intent to destroy, and unfortunately that is exactly what Kim
Jong Un is doing. He is eliminating all the bureaucratic parties that oppose him (1). In this country,
there are internment camps that are still functioning with the sole purpose of forced labour and
extermination. Similar to the captives in the Holocaust, prisoners endure lifetime isolation,
inhumane conditions, and humiliation. Therefore, the North Korean internment camp, Kaechon is
proven to be just as horrid as Dachau.
The North Korean government claims the internment camps are not real, but clearly there are videos
and photos that prove their existence, there is no denying what the truth really is. One particular
camp called Kaechon internment camp, commonly known as Camp fourteen was established by
Kim Jong Un's grandfather, Kim Il–sung. Ever since the camp

Similarities Between North And South Korea
Economic Essay 1 Although the people of North and South Korea speak the same language, they
have many different ideas and cultures that have developed after the two countries split apart. The
market economy of South Korea has done a lot to improve the overall economy of the country, and
the gross national product has been on the rise. The economy of North Korea has had many
challenges, largely due to the self–reliant and closed economic system that they use. Overall, the
government and economy of South Korea has been more prosperous and successful than North
Korea. Much of this is due to the fact that in North Korea, they have a completely closed and
centrally planned economic system which tends to inhibit their growth. The fact ... Show more

The Government Of North Korea
"An oppressive government is more to be feared than a tiger."–Confucius Many people believe that
a dystopian government will only happen in the distant future but, they do not know that nowadays,
many governments function in a similar way to those governments depicted in the future. In
particular, the government of North Korea. The North Korean government limits the freedom of
speech and the press. Even your basic human rights are denied by the government. Their rights are
repressed. In North Korea, all the agencies of education and propaganda are controlled by the
government. Schools, colleges, radio, films and newspapers are all controlled by the government.
They are only exposed to what the government wants them to know. The people of North Korea
have limited food and resources. The citizens have very little or no say on who is elected to rule the
country. There is national glorification for their leader. The North Korean government is just like a
dystopian government only, it is not in the future. In the book Surviving Antarctica, it states how the
government controlled the people and how it limited their human rights. Right now we can see how
the Korean government acts much like a dystopian government.
Even though, the North Korean government claims that their citizens are treated impartially with
none of their rights prohibited, this is fallacious. The media of North Korea is one of the most firmly
controlled in the world. The press is strictly restrained by the

Censorship In North Korea Essay
"Censorship is the control of what people may say, hear, write, read, see, or do." All around the word
censorship comes in various forms, the four major types of censorship consist of moral, military,
political, and religious censorship. At whatever point an administration or private group feels
jeopardized by free expression, it may swing to restriction to secure their fundamental beliefs. Every
civilization, including equitable ones, has had some sort of restriction when its rulers have felt it
would profit the country or themselves. The type of censorship mostly found in undemocratic
countries would be political censorship. "Political Censorship is used by governments that fear the

Thus, North Korea's nuclear program is an issue to be discussed as it threatens international security.
The United States believes in dealing swiftly and harshly with North Korea and is willing to retaliate
should attacks occur. The United States believes that the North Korean nuclear program can be dealt

Country Study: North Korea
North Korea, also referred to as "The Hermit Kingdom", has gained great publicity and news
coverage for its unorthodox nature and borderline reckless politics. This extremely militarized and
sequestered nation is one of the last powerful totalitarian nations left and it is for this reason so
much interest is being placed on this country. With its newly acquired arsenal of nuclear weapons,
North Korea will soon find itself heading into chaos or learning to live peacefully with the
international community.
Brief History
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea or DPRK as it is officially named, started to present
itself into the international community shortly after World War II. After the United States prevailed
over the Japanese Empire in 1945, Korea was divided into two separate nations. The South was
controlled and defended by the United States and the North by the Soviet Union. With the separation
of North Korea from the rest of the peninsula, the Soviet Union pledged its support to the new
nation and helped it develop its political infrastructure with Chairman Kim Il–Sung as Premier ruler
of the DPRK. This separation was what started the drastically different developments of each
country. The Korean War was initiated by the invasion of the North into the South and raged for 3
years. North Korea invaded the South and pushed back any opposition to engulf almost the whole
peninsula

Analysis Of The Article ' With North Korea '
The article, "With North Korea, we do have cards to play," was featured in The Washington Post, a
center–left publication, on 4/20/2017. The author of the article is Charles Krauthammer.
Krauthammer is a weekly writer for The Washington Post, a Fox News commentator, and a Pulitzer
Prize recipient (Charles Krauthammer). This piece argues for a diplomatic solution to the North
Korean crisis in which China places strong pressure on the North Korean government in order for
them to give up their nuclear program.
The five elements of the critical eye are accuracy, objectivity, completeness, possible options or
solutions, and a realistic discussion. The vast majority of the article features accurate information.

Even North Korea did have the capability to miniaturize a nuclear bomb, their ballistic missiles do
not have the capability to reach mainland United States. Nonetheless, North Korea does have
additional missiles in development (North Korean Ballistic Missile Models, 2016). The following
paragraph states that the North Koreans have "made significant progress with solid–fuel rockets"
(Krauthammer, 2017). According to a report in The Telegraph, North Korea has made progress with
solid–fueled rockets. Nevertheless, it is not clear if the North Koreans have the ability to store the
solid–fuel long term. This paragraph also states that solid–fueled rockets are harder to shoot down.
While this is true, in most cases the rocket have reduced launch times and countermeasures.
Paragraph four is where the author misleads the audience. He states that North Korea "has an
estimated 10 to 16 [nuclear weapons]. By 2020, it could very well have a hundred" (Krauthammer,
2017). This estimate was taken out of the incorrect context. This information is based on a quotation
from the top North Korean analyst at Johns Hopkins University. The 100 nuclear weapons were the
least likely scenario. When discussing this issue, the top analyst stated that "a 'worst–case scenario',

During Kim Jong IL'S reign, the government in North Korea was very unorganized and poor. "In

a severe agricultural decline. The newly minted despot transformed it into a famine that would claim
as many as three million lives. Food shortages have plagued the country ever since" (Weissmann).
Since the death of Kim Jong IL, Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, agreed to "stop" the nuclear
tests and freeze the nuclear program in return would be food aid from the United States on February
29, 2012. This agreement included uranium enrichment and long range missile tests ("North Korea |

effects this characteristic have on this country.
The Physical Characteristic of North Korea are extraordinary. North Korea is part of the East Asia

Delving deep into the history of how new media has the ability to cause the autocratic ways of
governments to run into a stone wall, the infamous incident of how university students of Indonesia

an excellent illustration. Through examining more recent cases where the citizens of Tunisia and
Egypt have tapped on the power of social media to help upend the existing political order, the
potency of new media becomes apparent. Amidst volatile and rapidly evolving preferences and uses
for different forms of new media, North Korea remains entrenched in the situation where all types of

However, it is essential to note that the climate of fear could paralyse the citizens such that they
remain nonchalant about their lack of freedom, assuming the government is able to satisfy their
basic needs. From another point of view, this assumption could prove problematic on its own.
Although North Korea could rank low on the Power Distance Index due to the communist emphasis
on equality and minimizing status differences (Birnbaum–More, Wong and Olve, 1995), it is notable
that the Power Distance Index is malleable and can shift in the face of ideological pressures
(McGrath, MacMillan, Yang, Tsai, 1992) i.e. the communist regime in North Korea. Hence the
people are reluctant to question authority and the fear to disagree is substantial (Birnbaum–More et
al., 1995). Therefore, the citizens of North Korea could be less particular about their restricted status
of freedom because they accept the commands of the government 'dutifully'.
To limit the scope of discussion, it would now be appropriate to define the term "influence". The
influence of the influx of new media on the North Korean government would allude to the extent to
which the dictatorship nature of the

Social Interaction At North Korea
Sociology has always been the systematic study of social interaction at a variety of levels. For

here in the United States. Escape From Camp 14 and The Orphan's Master Son are two of the books
that have provided me with a large amount of information on North Korea. North Korea has a
population of 24.9 million people. The founder of North Korea Kim Il Sung, created the country's
policy of juche also knows as self–reliance. This has made North Korea where they rely souly on
themselves. There are very few people in North Korea that are allowed to own motor vehicles. If
you are in the government and military officials it is legal for you to own or operate a vehicle.
Marajuana, in North Korea is not considered a drug and it recommended to many citizens. People in
North Korea are not allowed to have access to anything in the outside world, such as TV, cable,

that characterize a particular group or society. Escape From Camp 14 shows the culture that Shin

North Korea's leader Kim Jong–un has made audacious claims alluding to the power and potential
of the country's nuclear programme. The United State has yet to confirm the validity of these claims,
but the US intelligence has decided to air on the side of caution; our country is preparing for a
nuclear strike. The most dangerous thing about Kim Jong–un's claims is the details. A number of
tests conducted, the type of bombs being tested, the material being used to manufacture these
bombs, and whether or not North Korean intelligence has achieved miniaturization are all very
important factors in the rush to defend our country against these threats. If the country has
conducted multiple tests, it's had more opportunities to refine its weapon; if the bombs are hydrogen
bombs, they are far more powerful; if uranium is the nuclear reactant being used, North Korea can
make many many more bombs than before; if they have been able to miniaturize a bomb small
enough to fit on a missile, they can launch an attack on US soil. Kim Jong–un has claimed for all of
these to be true, but the US is a strong, independent country, and any attack will be detected early on

Compare And Contrast North Korea
The United States and North Korea. Both countries are very different in many ways, which has been
proven in a documentary of "The secret state of North Korea."
Some of the not so big ways that North Korea is different than the U.S is that, North Korea has not
internet, which really isn't that bad because in some parts of the U.S they don't have internet either.
Their movies are separated into categories men are only allowed to watch action movies, and
women are only allowed to watch soap operas, and drama movies.
Filming is illegal in North Korea, which is understandable because in some parts of the U.S they
aren't allowed to film either.
The governments of both of these countries are very different. In the United States they elect a new
president every 4 years, and then the same exact person can run another terms after their first
presidency. In North Korea they don't have a president they have someone called a dictator which at
this point is Kim Jong Un. The dictator before Kim Jong Un was Kim Jong Il and before that was
Kim Il Sung. The people were very skeptical about Kim Jong Un because they were afraid he would
be different from their previous, they were right everything was different when Kim Jong un became
dictator and the famine was the worst thing that could happen to North Kore in many years to come
because it wiped out all of their resources they need that is why more than 3 2/5 people don't have

Problem Of North Korea

  • 1. Problem of North Korea "Jeon Wook–pyo, now 68, was among 25 crewmen aboard two fishing boats captured by North Korea in the Yellow Sea in 1972. He escaped North Korea in August 2013 and returned to South Korea September the same year" (BBC13). In the current status with North Korea some people do not know why there is conflict between North Korea and the rest of the world, or as to what they did to enrage the world. The big problem with North Korea is that, in accords with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, they have violated many of the basic rights of the individual. Some of these violations are directly in conflict with South Korea and threatening to the surrounding countries. Which may lead to war between two or more of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once this was done the basics of the plan would be discussed with all nations to ensure that it would cause outrage in other nations. The basic idea of the operation would be to sneak into North Korea and incite a revolution at every hard labor camp in order to carve a path to the capital and other key points. The next step to putting the plan in to action afterwards would be to first hold a convention or meeting by trusted United Nations representatives that could be trusted to not leak information of the meeting to North Korea or opposing nations. After that would be choosing military members of each respective nations who would be most qualified for this type of operation. Each member would need to have been or put through rigorous survival, stealth, and torture preparation training in order to survive in the harsh conditions of North Korea. The following step would be to safely get the squad(s) in to North Korea. Night would be the most desirable time to start the operation by ground force; Aerial attempt would be much less so due to the fact that the possibility the aircraft would be detected. The next step would be to infiltrate the closest labor camp to the border and cause a riot and or take control of the area to allow more troops and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. North Korea Communication Communicating in North Korea In the United States, Americans are given the freedom to communicate through social media, which has taken away the priority of verbal communication. In other cultures, namely North Korea, communication isn't allowed through technology. North Korea is a communist country making technology unattainable due to its isolation from the rest of the world. The life of a typical North Korean is simple: do what the government expects. Quite the opposite, in the United States an average American can do and say what they believe in. In the realm of communication, both countries have their differences and similarities; language, individualism, power distance, gender roles, and other aspects make North Korea diverse. In North Korea the standard language is based on Seoul dialect; they use English and Japanese loanwords in order to communicate with one another (International North Korea). Koreans value how they communicate –– especially with people they have known for a long time. The North Korean culture employs an indirect communication used to politely criticize the other person. One way of indirect communication is exemplified by nodding one's head ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... North Koreans think thirty minutes into the day because their culture focuses on short–time orientation. Short–time orientation consists of to–do–lists, chores, and deadlines controlling one's life until one has finished a task. Much like North Korea, Americans focus on getting the job done and then move on to the next; if there is one thing that both cultures have in common is how hard working the people are. In communicating with others, North Koreans tend to shy away from saying negative words and making hurtful gestures; in this way of communication, they are categorized as a high–context culture. In a high–context culture the communication is indirect, unlike Americans who don't mind telling others how it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Consequences Of The Denuclearization Of North Korea The North Korean regime presents the United States with complex national security interests concerning denuclearization and stability in the Korean Peninsula. The principal challenge to a nuclear free Korean Peninsula and East Asia region is the denuclearization of North Korea. The primary challenge to stability within the Korean Peninsula and the East Asia region is military conflict. United States national security interests concerning North Korea comprise a Korean Peninsula void of nuclear arms and stability within the Korean Peninsula and East Asia region. The North Korea regime threatens United States national security interests through "...public threats, defiance of the international community, confrontational military posturing, cyber activities, and potential for internal instability...." The denuclearization of North Korea poses limited alternatives and is progressing towards a decisive decision point concerning the employment of military force. Thomson Reuters, 2015. Web. 28 Mar. 2016. James Pearson and Jeremy Wagstaff analyze Red Star OS, the internal operating system used by the few North Koreans privileged enough to own a computer. He compares the OS to the North Korean political system: malicious, intrusive, and authoritarian. Red Star OS was developed by the North Korean government to make its computer infrastructure more independent and free of backdoors and security vulnerabilities introduced by potentially malicious third party software vendors. The latest version of Red Star OS is based on Fedora, a popular GNU/Linux distribution. Although the Fedora Project actively promotes user freedom, Fedora's open–source nature has enabled the North Korean government to create a derivative that directly contradicts Fedora's principles. On the surface, Red Star OS closely resembles OS X. Underneath, however, lie hidden processes that surveil and supervise the user. The system does not allow many of its core functions to be disabled, such as the firewall and antivirus system. Users attempting to tamper with the system may be greeted with an error message or a system halt. In addition to limiting user freedom, Red Star OS also aims to thwart the underground exchange of unauthorized media. • 9. North America Vs North Korea Essay Imagine a life living in North Korea. A country so isolated and cut off from the rest of the world. After many years after the war, North Korea and America have not been at a complete truce. North Korea holds America responsible for tearing their country into two parts, North and South. Nevertheless there are many similarities and differences between America and North Korea. An impoverished country of more than twenty five million people, North Korea, also known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) was founded by the revolutionary leader Kim IL Sung after the end of World War II. North Korea began as an independent kingdom for much of its long history. Both North and South Korea were under Japanese control in 1905 until the country was split after the end of World War II. Located in eastern Asia in the northern half of the Korean Peninsula, bordering the Korea Bay and the Sea of Japan, North Korea sits in a strategic location bordering China, Russia, and South Korea. Just a few days ago on May 4th the House of Representatives passed a new bill that will impose new sanctions on North Korea (NY Post). These sanctions are aimed at North Korea's use of foreign slave labor, at an attempt to limit the regime's physical cash flow as much as possible, while simultaneously requiring the Trump administration to decide whether or not to label North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism within the next 90 days (NY Post). • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Invading North Korea If the United States were to become a real empire tomorrow, I would hope the leaders of our empire would invade North Korea. North Korea is one of he United States most feared threats. Invading North Korea would make the United States as a whole, feel more protected or secure. Many reasons come to mind when thinking about invading North Korea such as, nuclear bomb threats, partial benefit towards North Korea, and the advantages and disadvantages. Nuclear bomb threats to the United States, I believe, is the main reason invading them would be the best idea. In my opinion, I don't think North Korea's nuclear bombs have the right requirements to hit the United States, but they are still a treat. North Korea may say they have the technology and ... Since last year, Russia and North Korea have increasingly improved their ties with each other. The growing ties and relationship between the countries has got the world thinking about the intentions of their alliance. More recently, North Korea's Kim Jong Un has confirmed his visit to Russia. This will be the leader's first visit to anywhere since taking on the position of North Korea's leader after the death of his father, Kim Jong–il. Russia has been sanctioned by the United Nations and shunned by them because of Russia's invasion in Ukraine, and so this is just a 'screw you' policy of Russia's against the U.S. (Jaffe). What they mean is that the Russian President's ego is hurt and is willing to do anything to show the West and Europe that they still are able to make alliances. A former U.S. ambassador to South Korea stated "I don't think the Russians are any more enthusiastic about the North Koreans than we are; it's their way of putting their finger in our eye." The fact is that no alliance comes without benefits in the political world. North Korea could offer Russia a useful trade route and also a path for an oil pipeline. Another plan by Russia is to invest $25 billion in the restoration of North Korea's railway system, but on a condition. North Korea will have to provide to Russian investors access to its mineral resources. There also have been plans for a series of military exercises for 2015. These would be joint exercises and most likely be conducted in Russia, thus meaning that their military alliance would be benefitting too. The effect of the repetitiveness of power is that the condition of North Korea is shown. Throughout the article, it is proven that North Korea is a power hungry, demanding, unstable country. Cohen tells in his article that one of the many reasons Kim Jong Un is so obsessed with power is because he feels that he is in danger of losing his power. Some of these genocide's have been from political leaders, others not. Genocide's can target a certain race, ethnicity, or gender. Some genocide's do not target but in most cases they do. These genocide's are a terrible thing that we still haven't learned from. The fact that they are still going on is reason enough. The Holocaust and North Korea are both genocide's that have and still are ruining the lives of those involved. Because of all the weapons testing this causes a lack of money for citizens allowing for thousands of people to starve to death all around. This genocide isn't primarily targeted towards any one group but is instead depriving people of their basic rights. They are getting tortured, killed in masses, and having their freedoms ripped away. In an article by hir.harvard.edu they said that," Hundereds of thousands of North Koreans have fled to China to survive. The majority are women, 80 percent of whom are sex–trafficked or sold into forced marriages." An example of having freedoms ripped away would be the camps set up in North Korea. Christians and other people of religion are not allowed to pray anymore and people get tortured to death. The laws are so strict that even if you minorly step out of line you could get killed. About 154,000 North Koreans are in prison camps, there are six camps surrounded by electrical barbed wire. Engagement With North Korea Essay Engagement with North Korea did not start with the Clinton Administration, in 1988 President Reagan's "modest initiative" enabled unofficial non–governmental visits by North Koreans into the United States. This gave permission for limited commercial exports of US humanitarian goods to Pyongyang, and permission for engagement between U.S. diplomats and North Korean officials. The importance of these engagements should be evaluated in four main policy objectives towards our national security: 1) Enhance regional stability: North Korea's geographic position is critical to the national security of the U.S., Japan, South, Korea and the South Pacific region as a whole. Armed with significant nuclear weapons and the fourth largest army in the world, the possibility of an unstable North Korea has been avoided for decades, therefore recent threats ... Nevertheless, there has been no deal yet to curb North Korea's exports of its indigenous deployment. Recent threats have prevented the U.S. in moving forward with future deals and weakens current established ones. 3) Encourage dialogue between North Korea and South Korea: Domestic and inter–Korean politics heavily influences U.S. policy results; therefore, maintaining a consistent diplomatic relationship with North Korea is imperative to the dialogue between the North and South. Moreover human rights screens are by and large banned from the nation, as are radio correspondences amongst citizens and outsiders. A few journalists and human rights screens have been fruitful in revealing insights about the hidden government's arrangements. The UN's bonus on human rights in North Korea, which assembled proof for nearly a year, including often harrowing testimony at public hearings worldwide, said there was strong evidence of torture, execution and arbitrary imprisonment, deliberate starvation and an almost complete lack of free thought and belief. As the president of the United states, Donald Trump should not heckle them, but try to make peace with them. One thing i grew up believing is that there are always two sides to a story. What if the people in North Korea just want to be respected? The president should arrange a meeting with not only north korea, but with the whole world in order to create a treaty for peace. North Americans tend to think that North and South Korea share the same traditions and customs, when in fact they are complete opposites. Going back thousands of years in Korean culture, North Korea and South were just a part of the country Korea. Fast forwarding to the 1950's the northern part of Korea started to become a communist country. The stock market crash in 1997 left the country economically crippled, forcing the government to request a 57 billion dollar loan from the International Monetary Fund ( IMF). The president of that time, Kim Dae–Jung, began to think of a way that Korea could become different from other countries in order to fix its unstable economy. Kim always was amazed with how the United States made its revenue from films and how The United Kingdom made its money from stage musicals. (Leong) This influenced Kim to use those two countries as benchmarks for creating a pop culture industry for Korea. Kim worked with the notion that in order for other countries to buy into your pop culture, you had to prove to them that your nation was cool. Living in North America, where freedom runs through the veins of our constitution, it is hard to imagine a world more restrictive than our own. Things that we take for granted, such as access to the internet, are not available under the same circumstances in North Korea as they are here. North Korea is the number one most censored country on the planet, and their strict limitations placed on Internet usage accounts for most of that ranking, is commonly referred to as a media monopoly and a "mosquito net," because of the intense control over the information that goes in and out of the country. The current leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, with the help of the former leaders, have completely re–programmed the Internet as we know it in order to make it virtually impossible for their citizens to gain outside information. The country is filled with propaganda, even in places where it's citizens least expect it. For example, something as subtle as the font size of Kim Jong Un's name is different. Anytime Kim Jong Un's name is mentioned online, the font of his name is slightly bigger than all of the text around it. North Korea is an Asian country ruled by a totalitarian dictatorship, although it calls itself a socialist state. The Jong family has ruled North Korea for three generations since the Korean War. The country is said to be a cult as the country's citizens are forced to worship the countries leaders, discouraged from holding religion and often punished from doing so, and are not allowed to leave the country. Additionally, in North Korea there are no human rights. People are killed or sent to labor camps for even the smallest infractions. North Korea remains one of the most repressive authority's states on the world. A 2014 United Nations Commission of Inquiry (COI) report on human rights in North Korea stated that systematic, widespread, and gross human rights violations committed by the government included murder, enslavement, torture, imprisonment, rape, forced abortion, and other sexual violence, and constituted crimes against humanity (McCurry,2017). Under international pressure North Korea always denies these allegations, but through defectors and satellite images the evidence is clear. Time and time again North Korea has violated human rights. This so–called leader, terrorized the people of North Korea since April 11th, 2012; his cruelty is subject to the fact he has no mercy towards anyone who speaks against him, no matter if they are a civilian or political figure. The supreme leader is perceived as a devil, as he has total control over the country, using his power to manipulate the North Korean media. People are unaware that there is a genocide that is happening at this very moment. Although, many people may not believe this argument, a genocide is defined as an act committed with the intent to destroy, and unfortunately that is exactly what Kim Jong Un is doing. He is eliminating all the bureaucratic parties that oppose him (1). In this country, there are internment camps that are still functioning with the sole purpose of forced labour and extermination. With its newly acquired arsenal of nuclear weapons, North Korea will soon find itself heading into chaos or learning to live peacefully with the international community. Brief History The Democratic People's Republic of Korea or DPRK as it is officially named, started to present itself into the international community shortly after World War II. After the United States prevailed over the Japanese Empire in 1945, Korea was divided into two separate nations. The South was controlled and defended by the United States and the North by the Soviet Union. With the separation of North Korea from the rest of the peninsula, the Soviet Union pledged its support to the new nation and helped it develop its political infrastructure with Chairman Kim Il–Sung as Premier ruler of the DPRK. This separation was what started the drastically different developments of each country. The Korean War was initiated by the invasion of the North into the South and raged for 3 years. North Korea invaded the South and pushed back any opposition to engulf almost the whole peninsula ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Analysis Of The Article ' With North Korea ' The article, "With North Korea, we do have cards to play," was featured in The Washington Post, a center–left publication, on 4/20/2017. The author of the article is Charles Krauthammer. Krauthammer is a weekly writer for The Washington Post, a Fox News commentator, and a Pulitzer Prize recipient (Charles Krauthammer). This piece argues for a diplomatic solution to the North Korean crisis in which China places strong pressure on the North Korean government in order for them to give up their nuclear program. The five elements of the critical eye are accuracy, objectivity, completeness, possible options or solutions, and a realistic discussion. The vast majority of the article features accurate information. However, there are a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even North Korea did have the capability to miniaturize a nuclear bomb, their ballistic missiles do not have the capability to reach mainland United States. Nonetheless, North Korea does have additional missiles in development (North Korean Ballistic Missile Models, 2016). The following paragraph states that the North Koreans have "made significant progress with solid–fuel rockets" (Krauthammer, 2017). According to a report in The Telegraph, North Korea has made progress with solid–fueled rockets. Nevertheless, it is not clear if the North Koreans have the ability to store the solid–fuel long term. This paragraph also states that solid–fueled rockets are harder to shoot down. While this is true, in most cases the rocket have reduced launch times and countermeasures. Paragraph four is where the author misleads the audience. He states that North Korea "has an estimated 10 to 16 [nuclear weapons]. By 2020, it could very well have a hundred" (Krauthammer, 2017). This estimate was taken out of the incorrect context. This information is based on a quotation from the top North Korean analyst at Johns Hopkins University. The 100 nuclear weapons were the least likely scenario. When discussing this issue, the top analyst stated that "a 'worst–case scenario', in which North Korea makes dramatic technological advances in both its nuclear programme and delivery systems, would permit Pyongyang to ... North Korea Tensions North Korea has been in the news a lot this past year, and it is because the nuclear tension between the US and North Korea and no one is sure what is going to happen in the next few months, war could possibly break out. Even though war is bad and we should resolve this situation peacefully and avoid any conflict, North Korea is a threat to the integrity of the peaceful world and should be dealt with immediately. How did tensions between North Korea and the US begin? North Korea has disliked the US since they implemented a pro–western government in South Korea after World War ll. After WWll Russian implemented a pro–communist government in North Korea and it has stayed that way ever since. Recently the tensions have gotten more intense because ... • 65. North Korea And Nuclear Bombs North Korea and Nuclear Bombs Many people are at risk due to North Korea's nuclear threats. The allies of the United States and the security of the country are as well. North Korea threatens the United States with nuclear weapons, therefore we must reach out to the allies of the US to help pressure North Korea and use the existing laws to the full extent against North Korea's forbidden activities. In order to put a stop to North Korea's nuclear weapons problem, we must travel back in time to World War II to where this bitter rivalry started. World War II has Korea broken into two at the 38th parallel. North Korea became a Communist and South Korea became American– occupied. During Kim Jong IL'S reign, the government in North Korea was very unorganized and poor. "In 1994, the year Kim inherited North Korea's reins from his late father, the country was in the midst of a severe agricultural decline. The newly minted despot transformed it into a famine that would claim as many as three million lives. Food shortages have plagued the country ever since" (Weissmann). Since the death of Kim Jong IL, Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, agreed to "stop" the nuclear tests and freeze the nuclear program in return would be food aid from the United States on February 29, 2012. This agreement included uranium enrichment and long range missile tests ("North Korea | Countries | NTI"). In April 2012, North Korea and the United States got into an argument over the launch of a rocket. North Korea then decided that their past agreement of freezing the nuclear program was now ineffective and conducted a nuclear test anyway in February 2013. On February 6 Pyongyang announced that all of its nuclear facilities would be restarted at Yongbyon. The United States knows this is not just North Korea bluffing. Satellite imagery has confirmed that the 5MW graphite–moderated reactor and the uranium enrichment plant has been put into work ("North Korea | Countries | NTI"). Not just the United States, but Japan, China, and everyone around North Korea must be on high alert. " Reports indicate that the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea has about 12 facilities where raw chemicals, precursors and agents are produced and stored. As well as 6 major storage depots for chemical weapons" ("North Korea | Countries | NTI"). It has come to light that North Korea never officially stopped the nuclear program (Mark Toner). • 69. Songbun System In North Korea Many of us have seen the infamous satellite picture of nighttime in North Korea by now. From the satellite's view, when nightfall hits Asia looks ablaze with lights from various metropolitan areas across the continent. But there is a major exception to this. The state of North Korea appears to be a giant black spot on the continent from which almost no light can be seen in the photograph. My first reaction to this photo was one of shock. Shock at the appearance of a total lack of development within the country, shock that in the 21st century a country that is pursuing a nuclear program can be so underdeveloped in infrastructure that it cannot sufficiently light it's own cities. After this initial reaction, I had another thought. I began to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 71. Censorship in North Korea Introduction Delving deep into the history of how new media has the ability to cause the autocratic ways of governments to run into a stone wall, the infamous incident of how university students of Indonesia leveraged on the power of e–mail to overthrow the then corrupt President Suharto presents itself as an excellent illustration. Through examining more recent cases where the citizens of Tunisia and Egypt have tapped on the power of social media to help upend the existing political order, the potency of new media becomes apparent. Amidst volatile and rapidly evolving preferences and uses for different forms of new media, North Korea remains entrenched in the situation where all types of media are state–owned; where the Internet is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is essential to note that the climate of fear could paralyse the citizens such that they remain nonchalant about their lack of freedom, assuming the government is able to satisfy their basic needs. From another point of view, this assumption could prove problematic on its own. Although North Korea could rank low on the Power Distance Index due to the communist emphasis on equality and minimizing status differences (Birnbaum–More, Wong and Olve, 1995), it is notable that the Power Distance Index is malleable and can shift in the face of ideological pressures (McGrath, MacMillan, Yang, Tsai, 1992) i.e. the communist regime in North Korea. Hence the people are reluctant to question authority and the fear to disagree is substantial (Birnbaum–More et al., 1995). Therefore, the citizens of North Korea could be less particular about their restricted status of freedom because they accept the commands of the government 'dutifully'. To limit the scope of discussion, it would now be appropriate to define the term "influence". The influence of the influx of new media on the North Korean government would allude to the extent to which the dictatorship nature of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Social Interaction At North Korea Sociology has always been the systematic study of social interaction at a variety of levels. For instance North Korea, the culture, politics, education, religion, health and medicine vary differently here in the United States. Escape From Camp 14 and The Orphan's Master Son are two of the books that have provided me with a large amount of information on North Korea. North Korea has a population of 24.9 million people. The founder of North Korea Kim Il Sung, created the country's policy of juche also knows as self–reliance. This has made North Korea where they rely souly on themselves. There are very few people in North Korea that are allowed to own motor vehicles. If you are in the government and military officials it is legal for you to own or operate a vehicle. Marajuana, in North Korea is not considered a drug and it recommended to many citizens. People in North Korea are not allowed to have access to anything in the outside world, such as TV, cable, Internet, and cellphones. Culture is learned or shared behaviors, beliefs, values, and material objects that characterize a particular group or society. Escape From Camp 14 shows the culture that Shin lives in is one of which someone in the US today would not have to experience. Shin grew up in a prison camp due to what his family that came before him had done. He lived every day of his life working and starving to death, Believing that there was no other way to life than how he was living. In the book Shin says,"...the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. North Korea Research Paper North Korea's leader Kim Jong–un has made audacious claims alluding to the power and potential of the country's nuclear programme. The United State has yet to confirm the validity of these claims, but the US intelligence has decided to air on the side of caution; our country is preparing for a nuclear strike. The most dangerous thing about Kim Jong–un's claims is the details. A number of tests conducted, the type of bombs being tested, the material being used to manufacture these bombs, and whether or not North Korean intelligence has achieved miniaturization are all very important factors in the rush to defend our country against these threats. If the country has conducted multiple tests, it's had more opportunities to refine its weapon; if the bombs are hydrogen bombs, they are far more powerful; if uranium is the nuclear reactant being used, North Korea can make many many more bombs than before; if they have been able to miniaturize a bomb small enough to fit on a missile, they can launch an attack on US soil. Kim Jong–un has claimed for all of these to be true, but the US is a strong, independent country, and any attack will be detected early on and met with an attack just as strong if ... This issue is relevant to me because I live in the country North Korea is claiming they are going to attack. Fort Bragg is a major military base, and although it is a stretch for even the furthest–reaching North Korean missiles, it is definitely a desired target. Some questions I could have include; "Are there any more ways to investigate whether or not Kim Jong–un is telling the truth?" , "Do any of North Korea's allies back it's threats to bomb the US?" and "Is the United States fully equipped to face a nuclear strike on it's ... • 77. Compare And Contrast North Korea The United States and North Korea. Both countries are very different in many ways, which has been proven in a documentary of "The secret state of North Korea." Some of the not so big ways that North Korea is different than the U.S is that, North Korea has not internet, which really isn't that bad because in some parts of the U.S they don't have internet either. Their movies are separated into categories men are only allowed to watch action movies, and women are only allowed to watch soap operas, and drama movies. Filming is illegal in North Korea, which is understandable because in some parts of the U.S they aren't allowed to film either. The governments of both of these countries are very different. In the United States they elect a new president every 4 years, and then the same exact person can run another terms after their first presidency. In North Korea they don't have a president they have someone called a dictator which at this point is Kim Jong Un. The dictator before Kim Jong Un was Kim Jong Il and before that was Kim Il Sung. The people were very skeptical about Kim Jong Un because they were afraid he would be different from their previous, they were right everything was different when Kim Jong un became dictator and the famine was the worst thing that could happen to North Kore in many years to come because it wiped out all of their resources they need that is why more than 3 2/5 people don't have enough food to eat anymore. ...
