ABSTRACT
• Structural design is the primary aspect of civil engineering. The very basis of
construction of any building, residential house or dams, bridges, culverts, canals
etc. is designing. The foremost basic in structural engineering is the design of
simple basic components and members of a building viz., Slabs, Beams, Columns
and Footings. For their design, an architectural design is prepared using the Auto
CAD. In order to design them, it is important to first obtain the plan of the
particular building that is, positioning of the particular rooms such that they serve
their respective purpose and also suiting to the requirement and comfort of the
inhabitants. Thereby depending on the suitability; plan layout of beams and the
position of columns are fixed. Thereafter, the vertical loads are calculated namely
the dead load and live load from IS: 875.
• In this project, the design of G+5 floors commercial cum residential building is
done according to the Indian standards. IS456 has been used for the reinforcement
design. IS 875 has been used for the estimation of all the loads on the structure viz.
Dead Load, Live Load, and Wind Load. Once the loads are obtained, the slabs are
designed. Designing of slabs depends upon whether it is one-way or a two-way
slab, the end conditions and the loading. The analysis and designing of beams &
columns are done by the “STAAD PRO” software tool. The footings are designed
manually, after completion of designing the detailed estimation has to be carried
out.

TASKS TAKEN UP
Site supervision at various site locations has bee carried out.
The jungle clearance of the site was carried out.
The shifting of bench marks and marking them on the certain location in
the site.
The surveying of the site was done ,the reduced levels were taken using
total station device and transferred to AUTOCAD software .
To check the levels by using auto level and to estimate the quantity of day’s
work.
The reduced levels were taken and the excavation process was initiated.
Learnt about the safety principles and policies of the project and go through
the various safety formats used in the site work.

Studying the layout setting plan and started establishing the elements of it,
i.e. labor campus toilets office cement go downs sheds.
Establishing the labour campus was initiated and the required materials were
incurred .
The toilets and offices were stared simultaneously the brick work, flooring
was started and the aluminum sheets were brought and made into the desired
shape.
The walls were constructed for the offices and labour campuses .
The finishing were done for the walls of the go downs and the flooring was
started the leveling was done and the gravel was poured and compaction the
subsurface is done till the settlement of the ground take place.
The plastering work for the walls was started before doing it the bricks was
watered to avoid the absorption of the water.
The curing was done the walls. The footing plan was studied.
The markings for the footing and the retaining wall was done.

Aluminium was carried out in the office room the door and the glass frame
were installed.
The drilling process was done in excavation process when the hard rock
encountered, the holes were drilled and the cracking powder is poured into
it for the chemical reaction.
The PCC work has started for the footing learned about the grade of
concrete used.

PROBLEM DEFINTION
While executing the excavation work at site the water is used to
preached.
As the work site is with full of electrical and telephonic cables the
excavation work is done my manual methods which delays the
completion of the project.
During the execution of excavation work, the rains causes so much
interruption in such a way that the work site is completely filled
with water.
The work site is within the city limits the heavy traffic causes an
interruption for the progress of work.
The availability of equipment and machinery during the work
progress is not up to the mark.
Since the project location was in a heavy traffic area the
requirements(Materials, fuel) for the execution of work in site was
delayed.

METHODOLOGY
The technique used in the exaction were drilling and by using the breakers.
The cracking powder was used to break the hard rocks encountered while
excavating .
Profile leveling method was utilized in site for taking the reading of the
site.
To overcome the parched water while excavating, the pump is used
transfer the water to surface into drain pipes.
Additional support are used for effective execution of earth work.
Proper Safety measures like Safety shoe, hand gloves, safety jackets are
provided while executing with electric cables.
For the issues related to the sound pollution and the other environmental
factors necessary permission were taken from the respective departments.
The structural designs and the footing, column plans were examined clearly
and if there are any changes , for the development of plan the intimation
was done to the expertise people.

LEARNINGS
Learned about ‘rebar’ its alignment and how to calculate the unit weight of
the steel using the formula and about the spacing between the bars.
Learned about the brick work, about the joints and the spacing of it also
about the site preparation, hacking, marking, soaking of the bricks motor
mix.
Learned about Damp proof coarse ,wall cladding e.g. In movie theatres
Learned about the anchor bolts ,beam pockets- used for the installation of
the cooling tower and other amenities on the slab the anchor bolts are
placed in the absence of beam pockets. backfilling, cover block- in the
excavation or in the construction the footing, retaining wall.
By dealing with auto level we learned quantity estimation of various works
involved in the site.
Learnt to analyze the site work execution by observing corresponding
drawings.
Based on the drawings, bar bending schedule and quantity of concrete are
estimated.

CONCLUSION
It was a wonderful learning experience at Navaratna Estates site
of Trade hub commercial complex project for one month in
Visakhapatnam. It is advantageous in such a manner before
entering into the designated jobs we can come to know about
the practical approach for the existing site conditions. I gained
a lot of insight regarding almost every aspect of site. I was
given exposure in almost all the departments at the site. The
friendly welcome from all the employees is appreciating,
sharing their experience and giving their peace of wisdom
which they have gained in long journey of work. I am very
much thankful to the project manager. I hope this experience
will surely help me in my future and also in shaping my career.
