2. Experience 1999 – March 2013 Embedded Wireless Labs Sdn Bhd KL, Malaysia
Worked as - Lead Research Engineer in embedded wireless R&D lab for past 14 years that gave the
opportunity to build up experience as system architect and lead the technical design teams. Worked in
several DSP and embedded architectural designs and prototypes for central office (C.O.) rural wireless
networking system, Small office and Home office - SOHO CPEs, and a medical mobile personal
emergency and rescue system (mPERS) applications. Also took active role as an independent circuit
designer as well as layout engineer with end-to-end CAD knowledge. I have designed several DSP,
FPGA, POTS, and DC-DC Power circuits and embedded layouts from paper to product.
One of my SOHO development platforms was short-listed for MSC-APICTA 2009 Award from
whole Malaysia as best research and development platform for voice and data network.
Key projects at Embedded Wireless Labs
HBR – Medical pendant 2010 - 2012
Involved as system design Engineer and designed Medical Personal Emergency Rescue system. This
wearable design used full-fledged TI OMAPL138 and Spartan FPGA with high speed ADC, which
applies patented protocol to measure patient’s heart and breathe-rate using wireless (WiFi) reflection.
It provides seamless communicate to healthcare professionals through 3G network and get
instantaneous medical advice.
Zilant – Phoenix series 2008 - 2010
Involved as system architect and designer to develop SOHO platform using Freescale’s MPC8315E.
This Platform supports 3G, LTE or WiMax, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee for wireless communications
and Fibre, Gigabit, Fast Ethernet, USB HI-speed for cable network.. Landlines were replaced by dual
channel VOIP voice and fax supported with Plain old telephone line (POTS) for voice
communication. This platform is highly customisable for SOHO or house automation and ZigBee
house security with WiFi audio-visual recording. New 92% DC-DC Power efficiency with skip cycle
topology design introduced for 24X7 operations even in low / no-load operation. Developed unique
MSP430 based system controller and algorithm for system housekeeping like, manage system
booting, power sequencing, power management, thermal management, time stamping and remote
data logging.
Wimax CPE 2009
Spartan3 FPGA added with existing Phoenix platform to support wimax communication. This CPE
optimized for broadband connectivity to Enterprise (SOHO) and home (residential gateway) users in
city environments. This wimax CPE designed for Wimax communication limited and terminated
later due to economic reasons.
High speed Video Storage 2006-2009
Xilinx FPGA based Terabyte solid state storage design which supports sustained data speed of 227.9
MB/sec for SMPTE292 and SMPTE372, with up to 2048x1080 12 bit 4:4:4, the maximum possible
dual link HD-SDI bit depth and frame size to store for movie shooting.
The following designs and prototype modules used in central office (C.O.) rural wireless networking system
called Arcadian wireless, which operates, based on patented IP called Fixed point to multipoint wireless
platform. This provides rural voice and data communication with low cost per line.
Universal Daughter Board 2005 - 2006
TI A5 chipset based ADSL design integrated in high dense printed circuit board to accommodate
Arcadian’s all four existing modules in one universal board. It simplified the central office (CO) side
equipment to serve POTS and ADSL using single board. This 1500 components 12 layer universal
board supported POTS, ADSL, Ethernet and E1 by simple PCB assembly variants. This challenging
mission slashed down manufacturing and inventory cost by 40% due to setup charges, optimization of
chipset and watchful selection of the components. Obviously, it minimized the PCB inventory.
Telecom Charger 2005
Designed innovative smart switching lead-acid charger retrieve the power from solar, windmill and
mains SMPS that charges the 2000Ah battery with ultralow loss and provides power backup for the
Arcadian rural networking system.
3. Key projects at Embedded Wireless Labs (continue)
Power sequencing and system controller 2004
FPGA and Microcontroller based circuit designed to monitor and sequencing the 28 power supplies on
the system while power up and power down. It also played an important role on system reset
configuration and boot sequencing. This topology dramatically improved the system reliability and
failsafe remote configuration.
PowerPC Based Motherboard 2000 - 2004
PowerPC based motherboard that supported up to 8-daughter board interface card with proprietary bus
to communicate with 8 different DSP with intelligent poling mechanism and dual port ram (DPRAM)
to overcome bus loading. High level of intelligence was required to handle the different type of
daughter board of any combination i.e. E1, POTS, POTS with ADSL, POTS with Ethernet and
universal board also provides interface to ISM band radio using baseband board called Havana
POTS line Bridge 2002
Innovative match box size solution provided to connect two active CO telephone lines without
affecting DC parameters and transfers the audio / fax data
Rural Network Enclosure Design 2001-2003
With Significant engineering considerations, Easy replaceable snap-in protection module designs and
zero vent design to avoid dust, insects without compromising thermal management. The key features
