1. Electro Industries/GaugeTech celebrated its 40th birthday in 2015. It seems like just yesterday
that we launched our first digital power meter. It used this new technology at the time, called
CMOS. It wasn’t until 5 years later that EIG pursued this other new technology – the embedded
microcontroller (micro-processor). From then until now, EIG has made it its mission to innovate
and produce ground-breaking new technology. We are still an independent company and we still
make all of our equipment in the United States.
Over the last 40+ years we have grown in size and capability through our dedication to excellence,
responsiveness to our customers’ needs, and pursuit of innovation. To all of our employees,

2. Communication Converter Products
ProtoCom Protocol Gateway
The ProtoCom is a one-stop solution to building automation. It allows any integrator to easily
provide power metering data to any building automation system (BAS) that uses BACnet or
LonWorks protocols. Using this converter, a user can easily convert power metering data from
Electro Industries (EIG)’s native Modbus protocol to the desired format quickly and easily without
complex integration.
The converter communicates with host meters using RS485 Modbus protocol and provides the
output via BACnet MS/TP or BACnet /IP. The LonWorks version will provide the output via a
LonWorks interface. All configuration files for all supported EIG meters have been pre-loaded and
pretested.
In addition to BACnet, the ProtoCom converter also supports Johnson Controls’ Metasys N2,
Allen-Bradley EtherNet/IP, and Allen-Bradley DF1 protocols. With the ProtoCom or ProtoCom-
Lon your Shark and Nexus meter data is available directly to the most widely used BAS protocols
worldwide.

3. Unicom 2500 Communication Interface
Converter
This rugged device reliably solves a host of communication problems. It converts two- or four-
wire RS485 to RS232 (and back again), and an optional module converts either of these formats
into fiber optic, bidirectionally. The Unicom 2500 communicates at a rate of up to 115 kilo baud,
and it even increases the throughput of two-wire RS485 mode. Its opto-isolation protects your
valuable equipment and buses from destructive spikes and surges of up to 2500 volts. The
Unicom also has a DTE/DCE switch that eliminates the need for a null-modem. A nifty little
feature that can’t be fully appreciated until it’s needed.

lines. Its buffer is 32 times the size of the most advanced single-line modems. It handles
bidirectional RS485-to-RS232 conversion and it can even be reprogrammed in person or over the
