2. Nature conservation
Nature conservation is very important because it ensures
cleanliness in the country, protects plants and species of
animals. In Poland, forms of landscape protection occupy
33% surface. Among them we include:
- National Parks
- Landscape Parks
- Nature Reserves
- Monuments of Nature
- Sightseeing Parks
4. National Parks
In Poland there are 23 national parks. You can find
mountains, seas, leeks and rivers in them. The
oldest national park was established in 1932, it is
the Białowieski National Park. The youngest of the
parks is Ujście Warty. It exists since 2001. The
largest of these is the Biebrzański National Park,
almost entirely covered with water. The least is
the Ojcowski National Park – 12km long.
5. Białowieski National Park
It is located in the north-east part of Poland, created
in 1932. The first national park in Poland and one of
the first national parks in Europe. There are 49
mammal species, 275 bird species, 36 fish species,
12 amphibians spieces and 5 reptiles species. The
park is famous for aurochs. Their number is 578.
This is the biggest attraction of this park.
7. Estuary of the Warta River National Park
The park was established to protect swamps,
meadows and pastures. It is a great place for
walking and cycling. Routes and observation points
help to observe the birds. There are 245 bird species
in the park. 26 of them are among the most
endangered species in the world.
10. Landscape Parks
The landscape park includes a protected
area for natural, historical and cultural
values. Landscape parks serve leisure and
education. They are marked with
rectangular red plates. In Poland there are
122 landscape parks. The oldest is Suwalski
Landscape Park - created in 1976, the
youngest is the Nadgoplański Landscape
Park - created in 2009.
11. Puszcza Zielonka Landscape Park
The purpose of the conservation is to preserve
one of the largest forest complexes in central
Wielkopolska. The area was formed during the
last glaciation when the hills and valleys formed.
Tourists in the park have designated cycling and
horse riding routes. Plants in the park include
pine, beech, maple, oak.
13. Oak Bartek
Oak Bartek is the most famous,
the largest and the older Polish
tree. This tree is 670 years old,
but some people say it is 1200
years old. The oak is 30 meters
high. Since 1954 it is protected as
a natural monument. According
to the legend, Jan III Sobieski and
Marysieńka hid treasure in
Bartek. Oak Bartek is a symbol of
strength and perseverance.
14. Crooked forest
The crooked forest is a
aggregation of 100 deformed
pines. These trees are about
80 years old. These trees are
bent at an angle of 90
degrees. The most well-
known theory is that trees
have been shaped by
purposeful human activity.
