Status quo of SHP in China
47,529 SHP stations have been built in China by 2016;
SHP installed capacity arrives at 77.91GW and annual energy
268.2 TW.h, accounting for about 1/4 of China hydropower output
and electricity operated.
A rural population of over 300 million in China has enjoyed
electrification through SHP, covering ½ territory and 1/3 counties
in China.

Further development of SHP are environmentally restricted
 Accumulated Impact caused by overdevelopment of SHP
in some rivers
 Partial dehydration in the downstream from some
diversion type stations
 Facilities to ensure ecological flow and monitoring are
lacking in most of the existing stations
 Improvement needed for river ecology and downstream
water demand

 River Ecological Restoration is newly added as a
component under the 13th
FYP National Programmed of
Efficiency Improvement and Capacity Expansion
 3,000 SHP Stations are targeted
to complete refurbishment
3. Rehabilitation Programme towards Eco-Operation
 1,000 river is targeted for restoration and 1,500 stations
meet Green SHP standard

 Research on incentives such as green hydro quotas /
tariff subsidy /ecological compensation /credit support
/taxation exempt
 Favorable polices at the provincial levels encouraged at
the inception
 For example, the Fujian Province reset the tariff for SHP
to compensate for the reduced generation as a result of
keeping ecological flow
