  2. 2. Illinois Virtual High School• originally planned in 2000• offered its first courses in 2000-01• primarily “canned” courses, with some home made• number of home made courses increases each year
  3. 3. Mike and Jim• taught in an online format prior to creation of IVHS• asked to develop one of the first “IVHS” courses – AP European History• have taught AP European History since IVHS began

What Do You Want To Know?This presentation will focus upon the practice of teachingonline that Jim Kinsella and Michael Barbour havedeveloped over the past eight years of teaching AdvancedPlacement European History together online, six of whichhave been with the Illinois Virtual High School. Theirexperiences include how they have been able to worktogether, having never met in person until two years ago,teaching in an online environment. It will also include variousstrategies and pedagogies that the two have developedduring this time teaching a diverse audience of K-12students from a variety of geographic settings; both studentsfrom urban and rural areas and students from differentstates, and even from different countries.
