This unit takes a look at the consequences of Babel (the separation of nations due
to different languages) and how the act of learning a new language is an attempt to
restore humanity to the global community that we once were. When we learn
another language, we seek to understand and be understood by someone who we
would not have the opportunity to communicate with otherwise.
For your group’s action plan, you need:
 State your throughline
 Choose a Spanish-speaking target country
 Mission statement
 +2 Bible verses related to your mission statement
 Specific strategies that you will use (ex. You won’t just show up to an orphanage and sit
around and wait for the children to show their gratitude for your existence. You will bring
x and y, and lead the group in z)
 Cost to carry out your plan (supplies, accommodations, transportation, inoculations, etc.)
 Community impacted by your plan
 Organizations who may be willing to partner with you/you would be willing to partner
with
 Possible positive consequences from your action plan
 Possible negative consequences from your action plan
 Cultural sensitivities: what are some things that outsiders need to know about the culture
that you will be interacting with?
 Anything else we need to know
