Reflection
Advocacy in child care project
From a global perspective
In our advocacy project, we have advocated different internal and
international socio-economic, problems related to children and families. Me and
my group advocated for affordable childcare in Ontario, and for the best
implementation of our effort we have worked with ‘Ontario Coalition for Better
Child Care’. In the research part of this assignment we did a comparative analysis
between Canada and different countries of the world. We tried to find out different
subject matter, like, government cooperation / financing in childcare, types and
facilities provided in child care, family income, economic structure etc.
In the action part we have worked with the parents from diverse country and
culture. In the discussion session I have realized, even though their background of
origin is different, the problem they are facing in their everyday life is almost the
same. That time I felt I was talking with the representatives from different parts of
the world, and that was the true reflection of the multiculturalism of Canada. That
also remained me the new era of global civilization and we are also somehow
related to global citizenship. As an Early Childhood Educator we are going to work
with children and family from different parts of the world, who have different
cultural values, speaks different languages. So, we need to analyse the existing
community issues from two points of views, global citizenship and the Early
Childhood Education, to provide help and to advocate on existing problems in our
society. Not only on this advocacy course, as a student of centennial college, we
have learned a lot about global citizenship from the beginning to end of our
program. Especially, I want to mention about the mandatory GNED course ‘GNED
500 Global Citizenship from Social Analysis to Social Action’. From that course I
have learned different useful techniques of analysing social problems and how we
can take action to protect the problems individually or in a group. I think I will be
able to use the knowledge I achieved from this course, in my future life. Especially
in my field, it will help me to advocate the problems and to build up a good
relationship with the families that I going to work with. In conclusion I want to
say, the experience and the knowledge of global citizenship I have achieved from
the advocacy project and other courses is like a boost which opened a wide
window of new global perspective in my ideology
