PEOPLES AND EMPIRES
       CHAPTERS 1-5
    AUGUSTUS CAESAR
       Mercedes Vasquez
Augustus Caesar was the successor of Julius Caesar.

He was the first to adopt the term “emperor”.

Augustus succeeded in ending the civil war, bringing
peace to the empire, and establishing a centralized
system of government.
One thing I found most interesting
about Augustus was the accidental
consequence of his tax system and
census. Joseph and Mary were
traveling to Bethlehem to be
registered the night that Jesus was
born.

Because of this people thought, “God
had sent Augustus to unite the world,
and in doing so to prepare the way
for the coming of christ.
The title “Augustus” was later
adopted by princes with
aspirations to empire.

The reign of Augustus initiated
a era of peace known as the
Pax Romana, or Roman Peace.

Scribonia conceived the only
natural child of Augustus, her
name was Julia.
On August 19, 14 AD Augustus died.

His famous last words were, “Behold, I found Rome of
clay, and I leave her to you of marble.”

Augustus’ body was cremated on a pyre near his
mausoleum.

Augustus’ reign laid foundations of a regime that
lasted for fifteen hundred years.
