Righteous Dopefiend Analysis
Righteous Dopefiend Analysis
Homelessness is a social crisis that has stayed with us throughout our history. There was an increase in the number of homeless people in the 1980s due
to housing and social service cuts increasing. In Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg's, "Righteous Dopefiend," being homeless is just one of the
many problems that encompass their day to day reality. The two anthropologists assimilate themselves in the homeless community and observe the
hardships that come from living on the streets and drug addiction. A better understanding is attained through their ethnographic research and details of
the homeless' lives can be used to further our knowledge and help in solving society's problems. This ethnography shows ... Show more content on

Lastly, third explanation is a comprised of ideas from the former two and suggests that the American school system is at fault because they do not
provide adequate education for the poor. Social and living conditions make it hard for people in poverty to get out and largely affect children. Such as
when Persia gave the okay for Tina to sell her body when she was young; it contributed to who she is in the present.
"Sexuality has an extremely complex relationship to gender relations in general and gender inequality in particular" (W R, 316). The sexual abuse
that Tina suffered from when she was young was also another contributing factor. She became numb to the act and treats it as a source of currency to
obtain favors; exercising her femininity when it became advantageous to her. She resents people who think low of her because of her sex, as shown in
her fight with Frank (B S, 66).
Often times the homeless people were sent to jail for possession, public urination and/or intoxication, or sleeping outside (B S, 112–113). Society has
criminalized those who needed to be treated and while they're in jail they experience withdrawal symptoms. Once they're released, many of them do
not have anywhere or any jobs to go. Relapsing is a high probability because some do not have a social network or support to help them. In the 1990s
and 2000s the only form of post aid was the Narcotics

How to Improve Presentation Skill
Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Definition of research problem
Your presentations skills are just as important as the information you are presenting. Presentation skills are important for every individual when you
have the need to present yourself. It is not only essential for your studying but also for future career. When you are applying for a job, you have to
present yourself as a sincere applicant who is ready to improvise the organisation using his or her technical and non–technical skills. Only if you
present yourself with the right attitude, you will be able to get the job. Even when you are in the job, you should be attending business meetings with
the higher officials where your presentation skills will prove yourself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2.1. Explanations of Students' Poor Presentation Performance
2.1.1.Communication–related anxiety
The inability to effectively deliver oral presentations may stem from a communication–related anxiety known as oral communication apprehension.
This is the biggest problem that presenter may come up against. The problem McCroskey (1977) defined as "an individual's level of fear or anxiety
associated with either real or anticipated communication with another person or persons" (p.78) which may contribute to an increase in anxiety and
loss of self confidence and, consequently, negatively affect one's action to engage in oral communication from face–to–face speaking to an audience by
delivering a presentation or speech.
According to Phillips (1968), a factor contributing to poor communication performance may lie in one's memory of his or her parents misusing
language to ventilate grievances, berate one another, or verbally harass family members, including oneself. These negative experiences may have led
the individual to be fearful or reticent of communication dialog, resulting in withdrawal from oral communication encounters.
2.1.2. Vague Intent

I Am An Application Of My Multimodal English 1101 Class
Makers and Makerspaces was the subject of my multimodal English 1101 class, which exposed me to an innovative culture and developed competence
in all communication modalities.
While my original interest was in the class theme of maker culture, towards the end of the semester I found the work on mastering communication in a
variety of modes to be increasingly important. Furthermore, the class constantly contributed to my personal writing and communication skills
development throughout the creation of a web page, a group presentation, and an analysis essay. As an international student, the transition was rough
because I had been detached from the English language for three years before coming to Georgia Tech. Nevertheless, the course gave me... Show more

Understating the genre and audience as well as the rhetorical process generated a detailed development of the webpage, which throughout diverse
deadlines of every process, attempted to a better final project. Notwithstanding high–school projects would produce analogous outcomes, I understand
what writing was about in English 1101. For instance, adapting you communication, aware of audience, genre, purpose of communication, as well as
having a strong yet debatable thesis, make me become aware of the complicated nature of the rhetorical situation, which unfortunately, I did not have
the pleasure to know before. I used to procrastinate every project until it almost reaches its deadline, depriving myself of the core meaning of the
proposal. English 1101 had diverse deadlines throughout the project, which require myself to work continuously and in advance for every assignment.
As a result, I had to improve my time management skills. Moreover, I realized that an aftermath of not procrastinating and working everyday, was an
improvement in my work due to the reviewing process I was exposed to continuously. Additionally, controlling my time better required a schedule,
which promoted me to work more efficiently and organized in every class. Therefore, the importance of setting to work prior the project's limit period,
helped me understand assignments more thoroughly, along with improving my time management. Moreover,

Life And Dedication Of An Organization
As I peered through the window of opportunity, which I thought would be an easy adventure, time and dedication surely proved me mistaken. One
average senior–high day, I walk into the Human Services classroom and sit down at my desk. The class writes the daily five minute prompt about the
service we are hoping to be involved in for FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) called, STAR (Student Taking Action with
Recognition) events. After the prompt, the class sets up the desks to have our monthly FCCLA meeting. I, being the President, began the meeting with
any house–keepings that needs to be discussed. Next, we progress the discussion to our chapter's current funds and finally begin to go into detail about
STAR events. In an organized manner, we list the events and information pertaining to which people are planning on working in each group.
I decide to work with Angela, who happens to be our chapter's Vice President, and Molly, the secretary, to focus our attention to the "Focus on
Children" category. With much thought, we decide on the idea of researching thesugar content in beverages and directing the information toward
late–elementary audiences. We create a few presentations and visuals to provide the students an accurate idea of the sugar content within their drinks.
While constructing this project, we also call at least five of the elementary schools in the area. One of the schools responds and we are able to

Righteous Dopefiend. By Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg. Berkeley: University of California Press, 2009. Pp. 392
Righteous Dopefiend examines the everyday lives of approximately one dozen homeless addicts living on the streets of San Francisco. Based on 12
years of research; Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg highlight the highs and lows of homelessness, addiction, poverty, and relationships in Urban
America. "We can understand the Edgewater homeless as forming a community of addicted bodies that is held together by a moral economy of
sharing (Bourgois 1998b, 6)". Through a combination of photography and ethnography, Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg are able to respectfully
portray the rollercoaster lives of these individuals instead of making it into a spectacle.
Righteous Dopefiend covers themes of: violence, race relations, sexuality, family trauma, embodied suffering, social inequality, and power relations.
The result is a dispassionate chronicle of survival, loss, caring and hope; rooted in the addicts determination to hang on for one more day and one more
"fix" through a "moral economy of sharing" that precariously balanced mutual solidarity and interpersonal betrayal.
Chapter 1, "Intimate Apartheid", introduces one to the group of homeless people living on Edgewater Blvd. It dives into the racialized
micro–geography of homeless encampments and how segregation plays a key role within the lumpen. However, the authors do reveal moments where
the racial hierarchy is trumped by the "moral economy" of street life.
Chapter 2, "Falling in Love", shifts the discussion from race to gender. This chapter sheds light on the structure of male–female relationships on the
streets. The lack of stability, surrounded by the destructive atmosphere reveals how women learn to use their sexuality as a tool for survival. However,
this chapter mainly focuses on Tina, a homeless female heroin addict, and her experiences growing up surrounded by poverty, abuse and addiction.
Chapter 3, "A Community of Addicted Bodies", traces how physical and emotional dependence on heroin creates a social hierarchy within the

Chapter 13
The Righteous Tyrant? On 2008, when Barack Obama was elected for President, almost every one was so thrilled to see this man lead the United
States. People wore shirts of him, celebrities supported him widely, singers wrote songs about him, and everyone chanted his famous line Yes We Can.
On 1828, a familiar man won the hearts of Americans and claimed the title as the President of the United States after a bitter defeat on the 1824
Election. Similar to Obama, Andrew Jackson was not just seen as a leader at that time, but an icon as well. People were on the verge of death just to
touch the man: The man who was well–liked because of his major role in the War of 1812, the Seminole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jackson strongly hated the Native Americans; just seeing what he did to the two Seminole chiefs in Florida defies his hatred towards this group of
people. Jackson claimed that they were in America's way, causing him to move various tribes of the East Coast. One of them was the well–known
Cherokee tribe, who strongly opposed the decision, because they already adapted the American culture. Their opposition was taken to the Supreme
Court, where it was decided that the Cherokees can stay. Andrew Jackson showed no sympathy and ignored the court's decision and exterminated
them from the East Coast to the West Coast on a winter season; the journey that we call today the Trail of Tears, because of the death of many
during the travel. If I lived back in the Jacksonian Era, my view of the man would be very unpleasant. These actions are something that a tyrant
would do, like King Louis XIV or Muammar Gaddafi, who totally ignored their nations' rights. I believe Andrew Jackson ignored two branches of the
United States government; the legislative and the judicial branches. He vetoed laws that he believes that hurt the country, but in my eyes, the Bank
was always needed, especially in their time of economic crisis. He also ignored the decision of the Supreme Court in the Cherokee vs. Georgia case,
something that a President should not do. I do acknowledge Andrew Jackson's protection of democracy and

How Effective Were The Righteous Gentiles
Plan of Investigation
RQ: How effective were the Righteous Gentiles in saving lives during World War II? The Righteous Gentiles, also known as the Righteous among the
Nation were people who stood out among the rest in the attempt to save the Jews and other victims of the holocaust. Although these people are
recognized today as heroes for helping the Jews, how effective were the Righteous Gentiles in actually saving their lives? During the time of the
Holocaust the Righteous among the Nation tried to stand up for what was right, through small or extreme actions. In doing so they accepted the
consequences of getting thrown into a camp or of being executed if they were caught helping. They took it upon themselves to save people who at
heart were just like them. Throughout the investigation, I will attempt to discover if the Righteous Gentiles actually made a difference in the amount
of lives lost. To find an accurate answer, information regarding the Righteous Gentiles will be gathered and analyzed. Sources such as survival stories
and rescue stories will be looked at. Some of these stories include the story of Mallgorzata and her children, and the story of Bartali. Along with these
stories I will watch the movie Schindler's List to further my understanding on the Righteous among the Nation. This information will then be analyzed
and compared to sufficiently support evidence for the research question.

Biblical Principles For Righteous Living
Theology has a direct association with faith aligned and relative to God. An adversary to faith is fear and doubt. The two antagonists discredit ones'
acceptance that God is faithful and can do all things but fail. Learning the process to achieve the best results possible is essential because it is a
personal asset. One must be attentive to explanation, conscious to personal experiences, and applied to the educational material to increase strength in
the development of achievement.
Theology Explained

Simultaneously, believing it has already come to a reality. Faith is a humble stance. It is a good time to draw near toGod as in a personal relationship,
while one is waiting. The greater the desire and the expectation offers a better chance of improved faith. Sometimes challenging the faith of a person
is a process God actually uses to increase faith. For instance, at a time during this season of unemployment searching for work had developed into a
constant thing. Many applications were submitted and several scheduled interviews the results were disappointing. Unfortunately, the interview
process seemed promising and exciting, but later, the updating emails of notifications concerning the positions of advertisement had been occupied
by other candidates. This experience has caused much sorrow and grief. During a pity party and weeping, it turns out to be an opportunity to pray
about the situation. The results of praying invoked a response from God. Sharing the message from God can be enlightening. He said, " Have He
not taken care of everything in the past just as before He will do it again. And the work He has planned does not require a job." The message was
overwhelming and also a pleasure, to be chosen for an assignment by God. This is confirmation God truly have a plan for the life of every person. The
waiting is vital to strengthening ones' faith, endurance, and patience. Although the wait can be frustrating, obedience is better than sacrifice.

CORE Group Observation Report
The first presentation that I attended was given by one of the CORE Groups that had taken part in the Experience First initiative. The presenters in
this group were Kayla Black, Mary Detering, Elsie Heckel, Becca McLemore, and Lincoln Siebert. For their project, this particular group was
partnered with Eckert's Farm and they were challenged to develop and pitch a series of proposals to representatives of the company for consideration.
The goal of the project was to increase customer traffic at Eckert's Belleville location during the winter season. The problem Eckert's faced was that at
their Belleville location, which is open year round, while traffic flow peaked during the fall and spring seasons, the farm saw a substantial decrease in
customers during the winter months. The group provided the audience with data that showed that during the winter months, the amount of customers
visiting the restaurant at Eckert's fell by nearly 50% and the Country Store saw a 70% decrease in customers. Thus, Eckert's reached out to CORE
Group 12 to find a way to bring more people through their doors during their slowest time of year. After interviewing and being selected to be on this

The Death Penalty Is Righteous Essay
The Death Penalty Is Righteous
Do you believe that people should get the death penalty? People should get the death penalty because Americans are just wasting our money on
criminals who aren't learning their lesson. People should get the death penalty because they have far too many privileges in prison that people actually
want to go there. People should get the death penalty because if there is a bigger consequence for their actions there wouldn't be as many people in
jail. It would be advantageous for the American civilization to adopt the death penalty as a common penalty.

population. Nationally, every 7 minutes another person enters prison, and every 14 minutes someone returns to the streets. The increase in prison
population did not reduce crime(National Criminal Justice Commission 33). In most prisons felons have access to a startling array of creature
comforts(Bidinotto 77). If our prisons are such resorts, simply open the gates and see how many run out, and how many walk in(Taylor 85). In
conclusion, people should get the death penalty because our prisons aren't punishing them.
Finally, American criminals should get the death penalty in order to stop the wasting of tax payers' money. The real
–world fact is that many treatment
programs a re simply not effective(Walters 36). Professionals will tell you prisons don't stop crime, yet we go on spending billions of dollars in order
to lock up more and more people. Tax payers continue to pour money into prison construction and operations in a way that competes with funding for
education and other quality–of–life programs. Hundreds of billions of dollars have poured from taxpayers' checking accounts into penal institutions and
the businesses that serve them(National Criminal Justice Commission 37). The number of Americans in prison has Quadrupled in the past twenty
years(Campaign for an Effective Crime Policy 46). Even with all of this spending– tripling prison populations– the level of crime has essentially
remained unchanged over the past 20

My Personal Online Portfolio
Presenting on my personal online portfolio was a great experience since not many presentations are individual–based. With many assignments leading
up to one major task, students were challenged throughout the semester to eventually present themselves to a fictitious group of employers.
Throughout this short essay, I will reflect on the creation of the professional online portfolio as well as experiencing the actual presentation. Creating
the POP Not only did I enjoy the creation of the POP, it helped me think back in my past and explore areas I had forgotten about. It's somewhat like
an interview; you must recollect memories of times you were successful at work and in academics. With Wix, the website builder, I was able to
design the site how I wanted it to look. I remember creating a Wix website about five years ago and the advancement of the online software is
incredible. Back then, it was very lame and very bland. In utilizing the cloud–based software today, I was given full creativity and could express myself
creatively. My favorite part of my POP are the sections in which you can scroll from slide to slide. Instead of crowding my website with boxes and
forcing the reader's eyes to shoot everywhere, I designed my interests and academic projects areas into a single box with a sliding queue. Of course,
the interests and academic projects are in different boxes and sections, but they are set up the

"A Righteous Day" by Mudrooroo Nyroongah
'A Righteous Day' written by Mudrooroo Nyroongah on 26TH January (Australia Day), in 1988, is a poem set in the first person voice that has been
composed in response to the depressing day of the Bicentenary of European Settlement. As the "righteous" day is reflected by the persona, this contrasts
with the 'White' Australians celebrating a "successful" colonisation in high–spirited ways, because to the Aborigines it is a day of mourning as they
view it as Invasion day. The poem underlines the fact that despite the hardships Aborigines have experienced as a result of White Colonisation, it
would be ideal if they shifted from prisoners of society to proactive citizens of Australia who will stand tall with pride and win their internal battles ...

The phrase emphasizes the poet's view of the importance of this day in positive means, and also the negative attributes of the day. It suggests a new
beginning and their possible achievements such as the possibility of uniting the two distinct cultures together, but negatively it also seems to be a
deliberate provoke, reminding the Aborigines of their defeat, and their loss of land, culture, and identity.
In line 9, the poet stresses again about his people's need to "walk tall", where ideally, each Aborigine should change their mindset to become strong and
proud. It displays an image of him being equal in height with the authoritative leaders, which emphasises his pride and self–respect. It also shows that
the Aborigines' have found new determination and hope, which is a source of their motivation to strive for justice in the face of adversity.
The poet uses a comparative image of his people's leaders performing on stilts, "with the leaders who walk on stilts and stumble", suggesting that
the leaders are exposed to the risks of being disempowered politically and morally. This is because the leaders are not willing to acknowledge the
fact that they have caused extreme measures of destruction to the Aboriginal race. It also suggests that the leaders are weak, as they are not really tall
but are on 'stilts', which is a deception of height, and is an illusion of their superiority over the Aborigines. The line, "as they greet me with the cries

Righteous Judgement in Antigone Essay
At the beginning of the play, Antigone brought Ismene outside the city gates at night for a top secret meeting. Antigone wanted to bury her brother
Polyneices' body because even though he died in dishonor he was her brother. Ismene refused to disobey the king which is also their Uncle Creon, and
she failed to talk Antigone out of doing the act herself. "Consider, sister, how our father died,/hated and infamous; how he brought to light/his own
offenses..Then, mother...did shame/violently on her life, with twisted cords. Third, our two brothers, on a single day...Each killed the other, hand
against brother's hand." (Antigone, Lines 59–65) In this quote, Antigone justified her reasons for going against the law describing how her parents went

The Chorus and the blind prophet Teiresias warned Creon that the gods would favor Antigone in the end. Creon then accused the prophet of corrupting
him, and in return the prophet warned him that he would lose one child due to his mistake of leaving Polyneices unburied and also for deciding to kill
Antigone. The Chorus then pleaded that Creon should heed to the prophets advice, and bury Polyneices and free Antigone, Creon finally accepted. All
of a sudden a messenger alerts Creon that Haemon had committed suicide. This caused Eurydice, Creon's wife and Haemon's mother to commit
suicide as well. This caused a domino effect because then another messenger rushed to tell Creon that he was too late, Antigone had hung herself
therefore committed suicide. Creon blamed himself for everything that had happened. In the end he still had his power over Thebes, he was still king,
but in order to keep his crown he lost his two nephews in battle, one he honored the other he put to shame even after death, he also lost his son, his
wife, and his niece/future daughter–in–law.
The major themes in Antigone are arrogance, how much an individual would do for his country, and a human being's conscious versus the law. Pride
or arrogance and its consequences are all a vital part of Antigone. It was a trait loathed by the gods, who brought misery to

Righteous Of France: Summary
For another, while previous scholars had already indicated that the myth of Holocaust rescue was more than a top–down policy, Gensburger pointed out
explicitly that "Righteous of France" was a category "constructed at the junction of the private and public spheres, or, rather, at the point of passage
from one to the other," which "shows how the actors' logics are articulated with the institutions that structure them and that they modify in turn." For
yet another, Gensburger was more interested in the contemporary construction of the past than the past itself, and therefore it has little to say about
"historical facts" that were featured in works of previous historians. Instead, the book is a history of a history, weaving together foreign policy,

Examples Of Righteous Vengeance In Shakespeare's Hamlet
Righteous Vengeance
The anger of a bull, the hatred of a Honey Badger, and the lust for blood in the name of revenge. These traits would fit any so called stereotype called

taken his mother and country's throne as his, thus Hamlet goes on a trail of tragic events to carry out his mission of vengeance and put his father's
soul to rest. Hamlet himself is a interesting lad who displays a complex way of thinking as he is laid siege to by anger and despair to the events
that unfold around him. Hamlet is also good at scheming like everyone else in the play save Ophilia and few other who are passed around as pawns
in the matter. Hamlet's only crime other than getting his revenge is leaving poor Horatio all alone in a castle of corpses and treachery. Evidence of his
goal for revenge begins while talking to his father's ghost and Hamlet says "Hast me to know it, that I with wings as swift/ As meditation or that of

Speech: How To Cover The Statistics Of Drowning
Part 1: Reflection on Speech Content Preparation
My topic drowning and it proceeded to cover the statistics of drowning, how to prevent drowning by overcoming risk factors, and how to preform
CPR presented by Jeff Ellis & Associates Inc. techniques in five to six minutes to fulfill the time requirement in the outline. I decided to go with
drowning due to my prior experience as a lifeguard in 2015 at The Big Splash which is in Grove City, Ohio; this would provide a level of
confidence in that I had ample training on how to conduct CPR under extreme conditions. I also chose this topic due to my analyzation of the
feedback provided by my fellow classmates as they were, overall, excited to learn how to preform CPR and get background information on drowning.
There was also consideration about the age of the audience as I assumed they had little to no background knowledge on how to save another
individual's life in a dangerous situation and preform it properly.
I went about writing my specific purpose and central idea to have the audience walking out of the room, knowing how to conduct CPR, the
statistics behind drowning through asking a question about if they have ever been near a large body of water before, and the risk factors
associated with swimming. I then proposed the idea to my instructor for their opinion on whether the specific purpose and central idea were
engaging enough for the audience to pay attention throughout the speech. I then proceeded to find credible sources through the local library
located on Bowling Green State University campus called the Jerome Library and online sources to gather information on the topic of drowning.
The Jerome Library was irritating due to the lack of books on drowning, specifically by Jeff Ellis & Associates Inc. Furthermore, the database of
the Jerome Library on where to find the books were mostly located at different libraries located at Firelands, and in turn, would require me to wait
for the delivery of the book unless I wanted to purchase a copy online. Eventually, I decided that the best course of action was to find online sources
that had pictures of the physical book which would count for a physical source. For finding the required sources needed for the

Aluminum Foils
Before building the design that is best fit for the presentation, there was many models that had "failed". To start off with, the first design to
successfully float with 50 pennies for 20 seconds was Tyler's design that was built with two pop cans and two sheets of aluminum paper (one is
used to wrap the cans while the other is used to make a "cup" to hold the pennies). However, when the group weighed this in class, it was around 31
grams, which is 4.5 grams overweight (the requirement is 26.5 grams). Seeing this, the group cut the top of both cans off, this decreased the weight
and allowed the boat to meet standards. Sadly, since the opening was big, small amounts of water leaked in while tested, this made the group
reconsider using this design in the final presentation. Following Tyler's design, Jalen created a design that had one pop can and aluminum foil
wrapped around it, however, when Jalen tested this at home, it did not work. During this time, Claire made a design to Tyler's. Instead of using

I always knew I wanted to study political science, but seeing a divided family because of it, discouraged me from doing it. During the revolution, two
great–uncles were Contras and the other two siblings were Sandinistas. This was an important thing when taking into consideration my family's history.
It took several sunday dinners to try and unite the siblings once again. When I was six I was already interested in Politics, I was the only child in the
family at the time, so I was more like an adult, I heard the sunday conversations, I asked questions despite the several attempts to dismiss me for being
too young. One great–uncle would take me every month to the National Assembly, and I would see how they voted on legislations, I loved politics....

The Righteous Dopefiend Analysis
No matter where we are in the world, there is always some kind of relationship that we will come to attain in life. Whether it be with blood relatives
or complete strangers, a relationship would develop within one another. A kinship is broadly identified as a term describing any kind of relations or
connection with others. In ethnographies such as The Righteous Dopefiend and Raw Life, New Hope, the characters have mostly been identified as
impoverished–living in a completely different world. Although one setting is in San Francisco and the other is in South Africa, every person
interviewed in both of the ethnographies develops a kinship with people that care and show compassion. Reading these two ethnographies, one can

Take for example the lives of refugees from North Korea moving to the South. The refugees seeked a better home to live in since most women were
forced to be prostitutes. Although they hoped their lives would be better in South Korea, they were completely wrong. After arriving in South Korea,
they noticed that the only way to survive was to have some kind of kinship or network in such a capitalist and advanced society. An outsider status was
anyone who didn't fit the "social networks and social capital required for negotiating the competitive environment" (Markus Bell, 245). Though there
are strict regulations on creating any kind of relationships such as marriage, employment, and socializing. This is only if one does not integrate
oneself accordingly since the North Korean aspect is different. According to many anthropologists, the link to Korean kinship is well connected to
even South Africa's and the Chinese. The Korean kinship is known to be based on "local lineage" or close relationships–even ones that are not
biological. There is another kind of relationship where it is not necessarily intimate, but still considered as some kind of kinship: pseudo–kinship. In a
pseudo–kinship, the relationship is a "lasting emotional significance" (Bell, 246). These are in enhanced especially in areas where the environment is
extremely hostile and and radical. To many people, kinships are supposed to

Why Righteous Gentiles Helped Jews
WHAT MOTIVATED "RIGHTEOUS GENTILES" TO SAVE JEWISH PEOPLE? WAS IT ALTRUISM , ECONOMIC GAIN OR OTHER REASONS
?
BY JOSHUA GERSOHN
INTRODUCTION
During the Holocaust period (1939–1945) many Jewish lives were saved by non–Jews. These saviours were referred to as "Righteous Gentiles."
Many hundreds of these non–Jewish people have been honoured for their bravery and personal sacrifice, of which the German industrialist Oskar
Schindler is probably the best known.
We might never know exactly what motivated these individuals or groups to risk torture and death under the Nazi regime to save one or a thousand
Jewish lives– we can merely surmise and try understand from the stories.

major driving force. In 1983 when Schindler was asked about his reasons for saving Jews he said: "I hated the brutality, the sadism, and the insanity
of Nazism. I just couldn't stand by and see people destroyed. I did what I could, what I had to do, what my conscience told me I must do. That's all

The And The Righteous Sufferer
"Job and the Righteous Sufferer" The question "Why do bad things happen to good people?" has most likely been around for a very long time. It will
always stay relevant as long as there are natural disasters killing so many people and making others suffer, many of them being innocent. There is no
common factor found among all people that suffer great physical and emotional pain. It happens to people of all religions, ethnicities, and morality.
Suffering does not seek out the guilty, it is just a part of life. Bad things happen to good people, because bad things happen to all people, so even the
righteous can suffer, which is seen in "The Poem of the Righteous Sufferer, and TheBook of Job. Suffering is just left up to the will, or ... Show more

He simply will never know their reasoning or their intention of allowing earthly events to unfold the way that they do (RS II:36–37). He says he does
not understand the people who praise gods when things go well, but reject them as soon as things turn for the worse, which he also says can happen
instantly (RS II:44–47). The speaker questions these hypocritical people, and seems to have a better grasp on the true nature of the gods than the
average person. He knows that humans cannot understand the gods, and never will. Much of the same can be said about Job, the book's eponymous
character. Like Shubshi–meshre–Shakkan, he is a righteous man. God goes as far as to call him "a blameless and upright man" and says he is a
one–of–a–kind worshipper (Job 1:8). He also endures great suffering, which all came as the result of Satan questioning if Job's worshipping was true
and pure (Job 1:10–11). God takes Satan up on this bet and allows him to cause make Job's life miserable (Job 1:12). At first, Job stays a righteous
man, but eventually he breaks down and curses his birth (Job 3). Job becomes exactly the type of person that Shubshi–meshre–Shakkan was talking
about (someone who questions God in bad times), and his friend Eliphaz tells him that. He says, "Your words have supported those who were
stumbling, and you have made firm the feeble knees. But now it has come to you, and you are impatient," (Job 4:4–5). Eliphaz also believes Job's

Is Yahweh A Morally Ambiguous Or A Righteous Deity?
Is Yahweh a morally ambiguous or a righteous deity? The concern of Yahweh favoring the people is commonly presented (1 Sam. 15:24). Without
Yahweh, the Israelites would have no power because Yahweh had given it all into their hand. Yahweh is the source of power for the kings and
prophets. Yahweh could either make your house successful or eradicate the dynasty (2 Sam. 7:8–29). Yahweh's questionably immoral behavior displays
peculiar disregard for humans. This behavior is first suggested when Yahweh hardens the hearts of theIsraelites, leading to the deliberate killing of the
innocent, and the bias between the Israelites and the other ancient peoples.
Yahweh's influence over the people raise doubts about his respect of free will. Yahweh's decision to take away the choice of free will is arguably
wrong. One example of this is when Yahweh places an evil spirit in Saul (1 Sam. 16:14). With this spirit inside Saul, he will not be able to make
moral decisions when the spirit acts within him. In saying this Saul is struck with the evil spirit and he tried to kill David (1 Sam. 18:9–13), which can
imply he would not have tried to do this if it was not for the evil spirit. The act of changing of a man's heart "And the spirit of the LORD shall seize
you, and you shall go into ecstasy with them and you shall turn into another man" (1 Sam. 10:6), is another act that changes a person. Yahweh hardens
the hearts of the Israelites before they go into battle so that they show no mercy

I may not do "FLL" anymore, but it was a heck of a ride. The long three years were stressful, and creative at the same time. FLL was a program

a nation wracked by hypocrisy. While asserting notions of equality and liberty for all, the young land coveted these values for its white majority.
African Americans, held in bondage for economic exploitation, were robbed of the principles of democracy and freedom so championed by the
United States. This dissonance in American rhetoric was omnipresent, for slavery was a constant and fundamental aspect of life in both the North and

Garrison's initiation into journalism began when he was apprenticed to Ephraim W. Allen, the editor of the Newburyport Herald, at the age of 13.
Garrison served as an apprentice to Allen for seven years, and his time with the Herald led Garrison to publish his own newspaper, the Newburyport
Free Press. Despite the failure of the Newburyport Free Press two years later in 1826, Garrison continued his work in the newspaper industry as the
editor of the National Philanthropist in Boston. The National Philanthropist was William's first foray into reform, and the newspaper advocated for the
temperance movement. Not only was the National Philanthropist Garrison's entry into social reform, but the Bostonian paper also served as the
gateway to the cause of anti–slavery. This gateway would be William's meeting with Benjamin Lundy in 1828, the editor of the anti–slavery Genius of
Emancipation. Garrison became the editor of the Genius of Emancipation, and during his employment, he became cognizant of the injustices of African
American slavery. While writing for the cause of African American liberty, he joined the American Colonization Society ("Garrison, William Lloyd").
The Society called for the resettlement of free blacks to Africa on the basis of their "notoriously ignorant, degraded and miserable" character (Faragher

The Reflection Of Management : Personal Experience
Introduction
I would like to begin with the quote "Knowing others is wisdom, mastering yourself is Enlightenment". In this course I have discovered more about
myself all through the class formally as well as informally. To my surprise few of the Management skills I was performing in my day to day life in a
corporate environment without even knowing it. And then there are some brand new skills I have learnt in the class, such as Tuckman's team model,
Drexler/Sibbet team performance model.
Personal Experience
At first I was thinking I am a helper (Type 2 enneagram) but to my amazement, I found out that I am an Achiever (Type 3 enneagram). As a type 3
personalities are extroverts I did not find difficulty in any stages of "Tuckman's team model". All the process of forming, storming, norming,
performing went well. And in our team almost all are extroverts so we sat and discussed about the 5 dysfunction of the team. We made sure in the
beginning that there is a strong bond of trust in the team, so that no one felt left out of the group.
In my academic and professional life I have taken presentation for several times, but sometimes I felt somewhere I am going wrong when I came
across the unsatisfied audience. Though I made sure that I know about the subject very well still I cannot engage my audience fully. Just after this
class I realised my mistake, even though I prepared well for the presentation I made a mistake by keeping the presentation more text oriented instead of

The Experience Of Speaking : My Past Public Speaking...
Overview Public speaking is a large part of any young adult's or professional's life. It is said that if you can't express your ideas in an understandable
and complete way, that you might as well have not thought of them at all. Being able to express your opinions on matters is a life skill that will never
stop being useful. To have nuanced and intelligent conversations, you need to be confident enough thatanxiety does not get in the way of your ability
to convey your thoughts. Being a collected and thoughtful speaker is an invaluable skill that will help you excel in life in not only social, but
economic matters as well. Public speaking is a challenging subject to cover since it is not a traditionally taught class. There are not any formulas to
learn and for the most part, it is not a passive skill that you can pick up from just observing. The only way to tackle both the anxiety of public
speaking, and the struggle to communicate your ideas in a coherent manner, is to get up and do public speaking, and fight through the struggles.
My Past Public Speaking Experience I have had the fortune to have slightly more opportunities with public speaking than some of my peers due to
my office job that I had for about a year. In that job, I had to frequently meet with my boss and his boss to present any ideas or concerns I had
regarding the company's technological side of things. I had to do several presentations on different options for many of the tech based decisions they
made.

The Righteous In The Odyssey
"Then [Abraham] said, 'Oh do not let the Lord be angry if I speak once more. Suppose ten are found there.' He answered, 'For the sake of ten I will not
destroy it'" (Genesis 19.32). Abraham was bargaining with God over the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Lord agreed that, should ten
righteous people be found in the city, that he would spare them from destruction. Regardless of the outcome, this demonstrates that the actions of a few
could influence the fate of an entire city or nation. If this is true of the righteous then it could also be said that the actions of the unrighteous could
influence God's favor. This is seen later, when God sends plagues into Egypt because Pharaoh would not release the Israelites from servitude, as is seen

As with many characters within the Bible, he is not merely a foil to express the power of God. He has very real emotions which affect his ability to
rule, and often control his actions. It would seem reasonable to many that Saul would take great pride in being the first king. In many cultures, titles
are passed from father to son. It is seen in Israel that land is passed in this same way with the only exception being if there were only female heirs
(Numbers 27.8–11). By becoming the king, Saul was ensuring that his bloodline would rule Israel, or so he thought. However, when he lost the
favor of God he also lost the right to his throne because the Lord chose a new king. Even before there is conflict between Saul and David, there is
evidence that he could be quick to anger. Samuel, when told to go an anoint David, is afraid of what Saul will do to him (1 Samuel 16.2). This also
hints that Saul may have trouble controlling his emotions, even when faced with the knowledge that the new path was the will of God. His concern
is with maintaining his earthly power rather than the good of the people. After all, if "a man sees those things that are apparent, but the Lord beholds
the heart" it could be said that it would be a benefit to the nation if their leader was one who followed God

Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind
A man is riding an elephant down a road, the elephant will lean a direction and the rider tends to steer him there. Sometimes when the elephant doesn't
know where to go the man will choose the way, and sometimes when the rider won't or can't steer the elephant will choose the path. But at some point
there comes a fork in the road, and the elephant refuses to go down either, having to choose, the rider analyzes his choices. Down one path is a
brood of vipers, which could kill the elephant, but the man would live, and down the other is a pride of lions, which could kill the man, but not the
elephant. The man has two bad choices to make, he needs the elephant to get him where he is going, but to spare the elephant he would end up dead.
I used a metaphor penned by Jonathan Haidt in his book, "The Righteous Mind" as a basis for my own metaphor of a moral conundrum. He uses an
elephant to describe our intuition and the rider to represent our reasoning. What to do with the chronic homeless is a question with no truly moral

Speech Is A Bit Nerve Wrecking Essay
Presenting a speech can always be a bit nerve wrecking for some because there is so much that goes into giving a presentation. When first presenting
you need to fouls of who your acutance is because that is what will shape your speech. Other components to focus on in a speech is your introduction

that one needs to focus on and they are an attention getter, the main topic being addressed (thesis), establishing credibility, relating your topic to the

Although I already knew of man's inhumanity to man, the tour of the Museum of Tolerance opened my eyes in a new sense. All the questions I had

homes and and took them to camps where they were forced to work or be gassed. The whole family was taken, but only those capable of working
long and hard were spared. The explanation of the Nazis' hatred of the Jew rests on their distorted world view that all of history was a racial

My Group Presentation During Week 10
My group presentation during week 10 was around the topic of women at work and more specifically maternity and paternity leave. A common
perception of teamwork is that you either have a group that that works well together and finishes the assignment ahead of time or you have group
where there is little communication and the assignment is a last minute activity resulting in a grade that is truly reflective of the effort and time taken.
Fortunately for myself the group that was formed for this assignment worked well together and produced an exceptional presentation. I enjoy
teamwork as it allows for ideas to be bounced off one another and a better understanding of issues and problems to be well comprehended.
As well as being a chance to incorporate individuals talents within presentation new skills and the development of existing skills. Personally I feel
as though I have a good level of skill for presenting an idea however I lack in the preparation are of a presentation I prefer to present something to an
audience rather than find and conduct research for a presentation. However the other people in my group were good at finding information and
crafting a brief outline around the presentation. This worked quite well for our group as we had a couple of confident speakers whom brought the
presentation together. Where others succeeded in producing and finding evidence to back up our stated methods in which work should be done.

A Righteous Sacrifice: Worth It or Not
A Righteous Sacrifice: Worth It or Not Many people are willing to sacrifice for what they desire, whether out of selfish or selfless motives they are
willing to sacrifice themselves or others. This sacrifice is a costly and even puzzling act. One must wonder, is this sacrifice for better or for worse?
Here are two stories that will show two different sides to this query. In Future Primitive "Hogfoot Right and Bird–Hands," there is an old woman who
lives sometime in the future. Her pet cat had recently died. "In those days cats were rare and the old woman had not the means to purchase another"
(Kilworth 75). With her only companion gone, she was now very lonely. The old woman was not paralyzed, nor was she sick, yet spent all her time in
her bed–chair, never leaving her home as "she had no desire to take part in any physical activity of any sort. She merely went from one gray day to
the next, sleeping, eating, and watching a device called a wallscreen, on which she could witness the lives of others, long since dead, over and over
again" (Kilworth 75). She was unwilling to make the simple sacrifice of leaving her comfort zone, to go out into society, and meet a new friend like
herself. The welfare machine went by her house in the middle of the night to check on her. It was then that she explained the situation with her cat,
and how very lonely she was. The welfare machine recommended to her that she could remove one of her feet and transform it to be like a piglet. The

Analysis Of The Righteous Mind By Jonathan Haidt
Report and reflection of the book "The righteous mind"
Jonathan Haidt while studying at the college put a goal to research human morality, its origin and development. His book "the Righteous mind"
explores the morality and how it affects relationships between people? Is the moral in the genes, and occurs through education? The book examines the
different conceptions of morality. Haidt mentions the theories of contemporary experts on ethics which demonstrate that young people can easily find
justification for the actions that have recently all been condemned. In this paper, one can find the analysis and report on the book as well as reflection
to one of the Haidt's metaphor and how it applies in the life of mine.

In his research Haidt asked provocative questions in different social groups: students, workers, employees and so on. He brought some wild story
and asked to evaluate it from the point of view of morality. For example, a pet dog, almost a family member, was hit by a car. The owner is
mourned, but then he remembered that he has never eaten dog meat. Instead of having to bury the dog, he ate it. The woman was going to do a
General cleaning and was looking for rags for cleaning. Then she found the old American flag. She tore it to rags and washed them down the
toilet. Mark and Julie are brother and sister. Once they're alone in a secluded place and decided to have sex. They were both adults free, when they
were contraceptives. They decided that it would be closer to each other. The experience was successful. When Haidt asked people if the these actions
of people were okay. To the question, why not eat a dead dog, the group of students gave answers like "meat can be harmful or dirty." You cannot
wash the toilet with scraps of the flag, because they can clog the drain if you accidentally get there. You can't commit incest, because it can be born

God 's Righteous Judgment : Romans
God's Righteous Judgment: Romans 2:1–11 The book of Romans is the longest and the most systematic letter written by the apostle Paul in the New
Testament. The theme of Romans is the revelation of God's judging and saving righteousness in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Judgment in the New
Testament was misconstrued among the unrighteousness of the Jews until Paul's message clarified the meaning of God's judgment and kindness. The
focus will be on this practically passage, Romans 2: 1–11. It is imperative to understand the correct identification of this passage, the analysis of
literary style and characteristics of both the book of Romans and the passage, the cultural and historical background, the appropriate exegetical
approach, the identification and explanation of any unique and significant phrases, and the modern relevance of the passage. This is the key to

Righteous Dopefiend Summary
Introduction
Righteous Dopefiend is an ethnography written by Philippe Bourgois, who is a Professor of Anthropology and Community Medicine at the University
of Pennsylvania and Jeff Schonberg, who at the time was a graduate student of medical anthropology at the University of California. The ethnography
takes place on the streets of San Francisco where Jeff and Philippe followed two dozen homeless heroin injectors and crack smokers over a 12–year
period. Righteous Dopefiend depicts the trials and tribulations of the homeless on Edgewater Boulevard and their daily struggle as they cope with drug
addiction, violence, and homelessness.

The use of dialogue in the ethnography is affective at depicting the lives and thoughts of the homeless through their own words and not through the
words of the ethnographer. Another theme that appears in Righteous Dopefiend is the use of the ethnographer's fieldnotes, which usually included
dialogue between the ethnographer and one or more of the participants, but also the thoughts of the ethnographers themselves. It is affective to have the
thoughts and observations of the ethnographer in an ethnography as it usually paints a clearer picture of situations and can uncover lies told by the
participants as well as provide definitions of focal vocabulary used by the participants. In between the mountains of dialogue, fieldnotes, and images the
authors also included explanations for situations, statistics, and relevant–worldly information at the time of its writing, which comprised the bulk of
the ethnography. Jeff and Philippe would talk about the participant's daily routines, backgrounds, and family but would also talk about things such as
the economy, politics, healthcare, and the legal system. The use of all these different aspects and writing styles allowed the authors to create a
powerful representation of the events the homeless dealt with from not only an economic and political perspective, but also a personal and familial
level. This resulted in a strong emotional appeal from the readers and really tested the cultural relativism of both the ethnographers and

Righteous Dopefiend Analysis

  • 1. Righteous Dopefiend Analysis Righteous Dopefiend Analysis Homelessness is a social crisis that has stayed with us throughout our history. There was an increase in the number of homeless people in the 1980s due to housing and social service cuts increasing. In Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg's, "Righteous Dopefiend," being homeless is just one of the many problems that encompass their day to day reality. The two anthropologists assimilate themselves in the homeless community and observe the hardships that come from living on the streets and drug addiction. A better understanding is attained through their ethnographic research and details of the homeless' lives can be used to further our knowledge and help in solving society's problems. This ethnography shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, third explanation is a comprised of ideas from the former two and suggests that the American school system is at fault because they do not provide adequate education for the poor. Social and living conditions make it hard for people in poverty to get out and largely affect children. Such as when Persia gave the okay for Tina to sell her body when she was young; it contributed to who she is in the present. "Sexuality has an extremely complex relationship to gender relations in general and gender inequality in particular" (W R, 316). The sexual abuse that Tina suffered from when she was young was also another contributing factor. She became numb to the act and treats it as a source of currency to obtain favors; exercising her femininity when it became advantageous to her. She resents people who think low of her because of her sex, as shown in her fight with Frank (B S, 66). Often times the homeless people were sent to jail for possession, public urination and/or intoxication, or sleeping outside (B S, 112–113). Society has criminalized those who needed to be treated and while they're in jail they experience withdrawal symptoms. Once they're released, many of them do not have anywhere or any jobs to go. Relapsing is a high probability because some do not have a social network or support to help them. In the 1990s and 2000s the only form of post aid was the Narcotics ... • 2. How to Improve Presentation Skill Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1 Definition of research problem Your presentations skills are just as important as the information you are presenting. Presentation skills are important for every individual when you have the need to present yourself. It is not only essential for your studying but also for future career. When you are applying for a job, you have to present yourself as a sincere applicant who is ready to improvise the organisation using his or her technical and non–technical skills. Only if you present yourself with the right attitude, you will be able to get the job. Even when you are in the job, you should be attending business meetings with the higher officials where your presentation skills will prove yourself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2.1. Explanations of Students' Poor Presentation Performance 2.1.1.Communication–related anxiety The inability to effectively deliver oral presentations may stem from a communication–related anxiety known as oral communication apprehension. This is the biggest problem that presenter may come up against. The problem McCroskey (1977) defined as "an individual's level of fear or anxiety associated with either real or anticipated communication with another person or persons" (p.78) which may contribute to an increase in anxiety and loss of self confidence and, consequently, negatively affect one's action to engage in oral communication from face–to–face speaking to an audience by delivering a presentation or speech. According to Phillips (1968), a factor contributing to poor communication performance may lie in one's memory of his or her parents misusing language to ventilate grievances, berate one another, or verbally harass family members, including oneself. These negative experiences may have led the individual to be fearful or reticent of communication dialog, resulting in withdrawal from oral communication encounters. 2.1.2. Vague Intent You

  • 4. I Am An Application Of My Multimodal English 1101 Class Makers and Makerspaces was the subject of my multimodal English 1101 class, which exposed me to an innovative culture and developed competence in all communication modalities. While my original interest was in the class theme of maker culture, towards the end of the semester I found the work on mastering communication in a variety of modes to be increasingly important. Furthermore, the class constantly contributed to my personal writing and communication skills development throughout the creation of a web page, a group presentation, and an analysis essay. As an international student, the transition was rough because I had been detached from the English language for three years before coming to Georgia Tech. Nevertheless, the course gave me... Understating the genre and audience as well as the rhetorical process generated a detailed development of the webpage, which throughout diverse deadlines of every process, attempted to a better final project. Notwithstanding high–school projects would produce analogous outcomes, I understand what writing was about in English 1101. For instance, adapting you communication, aware of audience, genre, purpose of communication, as well as having a strong yet debatable thesis, make me become aware of the complicated nature of the rhetorical situation, which unfortunately, I did not have the pleasure to know before. I used to procrastinate every project until it almost reaches its deadline, depriving myself of the core meaning of the proposal. English 1101 had diverse deadlines throughout the project, which require myself to work continuously and in advance for every assignment. As a result, I had to improve my time management skills. Moreover, I realized that an aftermath of not procrastinating and working everyday, was an improvement in my work due to the reviewing process I was exposed to continuously. Additionally, controlling my time better required a schedule, which promoted me to work more efficiently and organized in every class. Therefore, the importance of setting to work prior the project's limit period, helped me understand assignments more thoroughly, along with improving my time management. Moreover, ... • 5. Life And Dedication Of An Organization As I peered through the window of opportunity, which I thought would be an easy adventure, time and dedication surely proved me mistaken. One average senior–high day, I walk into the Human Services classroom and sit down at my desk. The class writes the daily five minute prompt about the service we are hoping to be involved in for FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) called, STAR (Student Taking Action with Recognition) events. After the prompt, the class sets up the desks to have our monthly FCCLA meeting. I, being the President, began the meeting with any house–keepings that needs to be discussed. Next, we progress the discussion to our chapter's current funds and finally begin to go into detail about STAR events. In an organized manner, we list the events and information pertaining to which people are planning on working in each group. I decide to work with Angela, who happens to be our chapter's Vice President, and Molly, the secretary, to focus our attention to the "Focus on Children" category. With much thought, we decide on the idea of researching thesugar content in beverages and directing the information toward late–elementary audiences. We create a few presentations and visuals to provide the students an accurate idea of the sugar content within their drinks. While constructing this project, we also call at least five of the elementary schools in the area. One of the schools responds and we are able to coordinate a few dates to present to ... • 6. Analysis Of Righteous Dopefiend Righteous Dopefiend Brittany A. Sampson Ethnography Book Review Anthropology 1200 September 2017 Righteous Dopefiend. By Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg. Berkeley: University of California Press, 2009. Pp. 392 Righteous Dopefiend examines the everyday lives of approximately one dozen homeless addicts living on the streets of San Francisco. Based on 12 years of research; Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg highlight the highs and lows of homelessness, addiction, poverty, and relationships in Urban America. "We can understand the Edgewater homeless as forming a community of addicted bodies that is held together by a moral economy of sharing (Bourgois 1998b, 6)". Through a combination of photography and ethnography, Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg are able to respectfully portray the rollercoaster lives of these individuals instead of making it into a spectacle. Righteous Dopefiend covers themes of: violence, race relations, sexuality, family trauma, embodied suffering, social inequality, and power relations. The result is a dispassionate chronicle of survival, loss, caring and hope; rooted in the addicts determination to hang on for one more day and one more "fix" through a "moral economy of sharing" that precariously balanced mutual solidarity and interpersonal betrayal. Chapter 1, "Intimate Apartheid", introduces one to the group of homeless people living on Edgewater Blvd. It dives into the racialized micro–geography of homeless encampments and how segregation plays a key role within the lumpen. However, the authors do reveal moments where the racial hierarchy is trumped by the "moral economy" of street life. Chapter 2, "Falling in Love", shifts the discussion from race to gender. This chapter sheds light on the structure of male–female relationships on the streets. The lack of stability, surrounded by the destructive atmosphere reveals how women learn to use their sexuality as a tool for survival. However, this chapter mainly focuses on Tina, a homeless female heroin addict, and her experiences growing up surrounded by poverty, abuse and addiction. Chapter 3, "A Community of Addicted Bodies", traces how physical and emotional dependence on heroin creates a social hierarchy within the

  • 8. Who Is The Righteous Tyrant Deion Karl Block 3 AP US History 11/23/11 Chapter 13 The Righteous Tyrant? On 2008, when Barack Obama was elected for President, almost every one was so thrilled to see this man lead the United States. People wore shirts of him, celebrities supported him widely, singers wrote songs about him, and everyone chanted his famous line Yes We Can. On 1828, a familiar man won the hearts of Americans and claimed the title as the President of the United States after a bitter defeat on the 1824 Election. Similar to Obama, Andrew Jackson was not just seen as a leader at that time, but an icon as well. People were on the verge of death just to touch the man: The man who was well–liked because of his major role in the War of 1812, the Seminole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jackson strongly hated the Native Americans; just seeing what he did to the two Seminole chiefs in Florida defies his hatred towards this group of people. Jackson claimed that they were in America's way, causing him to move various tribes of the East Coast. One of them was the well–known Cherokee tribe, who strongly opposed the decision, because they already adapted the American culture. Their opposition was taken to the Supreme Court, where it was decided that the Cherokees can stay. Andrew Jackson showed no sympathy and ignored the court's decision and exterminated them from the East Coast to the West Coast on a winter season; the journey that we call today the Trail of Tears, because of the death of many during the travel. If I lived back in the Jacksonian Era, my view of the man would be very unpleasant. These actions are something that a tyrant would do, like King Louis XIV or Muammar Gaddafi, who totally ignored their nations' rights. I believe Andrew Jackson ignored two branches of the United States government; the legislative and the judicial branches. He vetoed laws that he believes that hurt the country, but in my eyes, the Bank was always needed, especially in their time of economic crisis. He also ignored the decision of the Supreme Court in the Cherokee vs. Georgia case, something that a President should not do. I do acknowledge Andrew Jackson's protection of democracy and ... The Righteous Gentiles, also known as the Righteous among the Nation were people who stood out among the rest in the attempt to save the Jews and other victims of the holocaust. Although these people are recognized today as heroes for helping the Jews, how effective were the Righteous Gentiles in actually saving their lives? During the time of the Holocaust the Righteous among the Nation tried to stand up for what was right, through small or extreme actions. In doing so they accepted the consequences of getting thrown into a camp or of being executed if they were caught helping. They took it upon themselves to save people who at heart were just like them. Throughout the investigation, I will attempt to discover if the Righteous Gentiles actually made a difference in the amount of lives lost. To find an accurate answer, information regarding the Righteous Gentiles will be gathered and analyzed. Sources such as survival stories and rescue stories will be looked at. Some of these stories include the story of Mallgorzata and her children, and the story of Bartali. Along with these stories I will watch the movie Schindler's List to further my understanding on the Righteous among the Nation. This information will then be analyzed and compared to sufficiently support evidence for the research question. Summary of Evidence Background Information Approximately 6 million of ... It is a good time to draw near toGod as in a personal relationship, while one is waiting. The greater the desire and the expectation offers a better chance of improved faith. Sometimes challenging the faith of a person is a process God actually uses to increase faith. For instance, at a time during this season of unemployment searching for work had developed into a constant thing. Many applications were submitted and several scheduled interviews the results were disappointing. Unfortunately, the interview process seemed promising and exciting, but later, the updating emails of notifications concerning the positions of advertisement had been occupied by other candidates. This experience has caused much sorrow and grief. During a pity party and weeping, it turns out to be an opportunity to pray about the situation. The results of praying invoked a response from God. Sharing the message from God can be enlightening. He said, " Have He not taken care of everything in the past just as before He will do it again. And the work He has planned does not require a job." The message was overwhelming and also a pleasure, to be chosen for an assignment by God. This is confirmation God truly have a plan for the life of every person. • 11. CORE Group Observation Report The first presentation that I attended was given by one of the CORE Groups that had taken part in the Experience First initiative. The presenters in this group were Kayla Black, Mary Detering, Elsie Heckel, Becca McLemore, and Lincoln Siebert. For their project, this particular group was partnered with Eckert's Farm and they were challenged to develop and pitch a series of proposals to representatives of the company for consideration. The goal of the project was to increase customer traffic at Eckert's Belleville location during the winter season. The problem Eckert's faced was that at their Belleville location, which is open year round, while traffic flow peaked during the fall and spring seasons, the farm saw a substantial decrease in customers during the winter months. The group provided the audience with data that showed that during the winter months, the amount of customers visiting the restaurant at Eckert's fell by nearly 50% and the Country Store saw a 70% decrease in customers. People should get the death penalty because Americans are just wasting our money on criminals who aren't learning their lesson. • 14. "A Righteous Day" by Mudrooroo Nyroongah 'A Righteous Day' written by Mudrooroo Nyroongah on 26TH January (Australia Day), in 1988, is a poem set in the first person voice that has been composed in response to the depressing day of the Bicentenary of European Settlement. As the "righteous" day is reflected by the persona, this contrasts with the 'White' Australians celebrating a "successful" colonisation in high–spirited ways, because to the Aborigines it is a day of mourning as they view it as Invasion day. The poem underlines the fact that despite the hardships Aborigines have experienced as a result of White Colonisation, it would be ideal if they shifted from prisoners of society to proactive citizens of Australia who will stand tall with pride and win their internal battles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The phrase emphasizes the poet's view of the importance of this day in positive means, and also the negative attributes of the day. It suggests a new beginning and their possible achievements such as the possibility of uniting the two distinct cultures together, but negatively it also seems to be a deliberate provoke, reminding the Aborigines of their defeat, and their loss of land, culture, and identity. In line 9, the poet stresses again about his people's need to "walk tall", where ideally, each Aborigine should change their mindset to become strong and proud. It displays an image of him being equal in height with the authoritative leaders, which emphasises his pride and self–respect. It also shows that the Aborigines' have found new determination and hope, which is a source of their motivation to strive for justice in the face of adversity. The poet uses a comparative image of his people's leaders performing on stilts, "with the leaders who walk on stilts and stumble", suggesting that the leaders are exposed to the risks of being disempowered politically and morally. This is because the leaders are not willing to acknowledge the fact that they have caused extreme measures of destruction to the Aboriginal race. It also suggests that the leaders are weak, as they are not really tall but are on 'stilts', which is a deception of height, and is an illusion of their superiority over the Aborigines. The Chorus then pleaded that Creon should heed to the prophets advice, and bury Polyneices and free Antigone, Creon finally accepted. All of a sudden a messenger alerts Creon that Haemon had committed suicide. This caused Eurydice, Creon's wife and Haemon's mother to commit suicide as well. This caused a domino effect because then another messenger rushed to tell Creon that he was too late, Antigone had hung herself therefore committed suicide. Creon blamed himself for everything that had happened. Speech: How To Cover The Statistics Of Drowning Part 1: Reflection on Speech Content Preparation My topic drowning and it proceeded to cover the statistics of drowning, how to prevent drowning by overcoming risk factors, and how to preform CPR presented by Jeff Ellis & Associates Inc. techniques in five to six minutes to fulfill the time requirement in the outline. I decided to go with drowning due to my prior experience as a lifeguard in 2015 at The Big Splash which is in Grove City, Ohio; this would provide a level of confidence in that I had ample training on how to conduct CPR under extreme conditions. I also chose this topic due to my analyzation of the feedback provided by my fellow classmates as they were, overall, excited to learn how to preform CPR and get background information on drowning. There was also consideration about the age of the audience as I assumed they had little to no background knowledge on how to save another individual's life in a dangerous situation and preform it properly. I went about writing my specific purpose and central idea to have the audience walking out of the room, knowing how to conduct CPR, the statistics behind drowning through asking a question about if they have ever been near a large body of water before, and the risk factors associated with swimming. I then proposed the idea to my instructor for their opinion on whether the specific purpose and central idea were engaging enough for the audience to pay attention throughout the speech. I then proceeded to find credible sources through the local library located on Bowling Green State University campus called the Jerome Library and online sources to gather information on the topic of drowning. The Jerome Library was irritating due to the lack of books on drowning, specifically by Jeff Ellis & Associates Inc. Furthermore, the database of the Jerome Library on where to find the books were mostly located at different libraries located at Firelands, and in turn, would require me to wait for the delivery of the book unless I wanted to purchase a copy online. Eventually, I decided that the best course of action was to find online sources that had pictures of the physical book which would count for a physical source. To start off with, the first design to successfully float with 50 pennies for 20 seconds was Tyler's design that was built with two pop cans and two sheets of aluminum paper (one is used to wrap the cans while the other is used to make a "cup" to hold the pennies). However, when the group weighed this in class, it was around 31 grams, which is 4.5 grams overweight (the requirement is 26.5 grams). Seeing this, the group cut the top of both cans off, this decreased the weight and allowed the boat to meet standards. Sadly, since the opening was big, small amounts of water leaked in while tested, this made the group reconsider using this design in the final presentation. Following Tyler's design, Jalen created a design that had one pop can and aluminum foil wrapped around it, however, when Jalen tested this at home, it did not work. During this time, Claire made a design to Tyler's. Instead of using aluminum foil to wrap around the two cans, Claire poked two holes through both cans and used a metal strip (a strip of aluminum cut from a pop can) and connected the two cans. The speaker questions these hypocritical people, and seems to have a better grasp on the true nature of the gods than the average person. He knows that humans cannot understand the gods, and never will. Much of the same can be said about Job, the book's eponymous character. Like Shubshi–meshre–Shakkan, he is a righteous man. God goes as far as to call him "a blameless and upright man" and says he is a one–of–a–kind worshipper (Job 1:8). • 28. Is Yahweh A Morally Ambiguous Or A Righteous Deity? Is Yahweh a morally ambiguous or a righteous deity? The concern of Yahweh favoring the people is commonly presented (1 Sam. 15:24). Without Yahweh, the Israelites would have no power because Yahweh had given it all into their hand. Yahweh is the source of power for the kings and prophets. Yahweh could either make your house successful or eradicate the dynasty (2 Sam. 7:8–29). Yahweh's questionably immoral behavior displays peculiar disregard for humans. This behavior is first suggested when Yahweh hardens the hearts of theIsraelites, leading to the deliberate killing of the innocent, and the bias between the Israelites and the other ancient peoples. Yahweh's influence over the people raise doubts about his respect of free will. Yahweh's decision to take away the choice of free will is arguably wrong. One example of this is when Yahweh places an evil spirit in Saul (1 Sam. 16:14). With this spirit inside Saul, he will not be able to make moral decisions when the spirit acts within him. In saying this Saul is struck with the evil spirit and he tried to kill David (1 Sam. 18:9–13), which can imply he would not have tried to do this if it was not for the evil spirit. The act of changing of a man's heart "And the spirit of the LORD shall seize you, and you shall go into ecstasy with them and you shall turn into another man" (1 Sam. 10:6), is another act that changes a person. We knew we were definitely not going to get the project award. Our schedule was tight. A half hour after we finished our project presentation, we had our robot game. • 30. Dear Righteous Reformer Admissions Committee Tyler Knox AP US History Period 2 Mrs. Frey 03 November 2014 Dear Righteous Reformer Admissions Committee, Nineteenth century America was a nation wracked by hypocrisy. While asserting notions of equality and liberty for all, the young land coveted these values for its white majority. African Americans, held in bondage for economic exploitation, were robbed of the principles of democracy and freedom so championed by the United States. This dissonance in American rhetoric was omnipresent, for slavery was a constant and fundamental aspect of life in both the North and South for decades. This duplicity of American equality was not lost on all whites, and a growing sect of reformers arose to combat the wrongs of African enslavement. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Garrison's initiation into journalism began when he was apprenticed to Ephraim W. Allen, the editor of the Newburyport Herald, at the age of 13. Garrison served as an apprentice to Allen for seven years, and his time with the Herald led Garrison to publish his own newspaper, the Newburyport Free Press. Despite the failure of the Newburyport Free Press two years later in 1826, Garrison continued his work in the newspaper industry as the editor of the National Philanthropist in Boston. The National Philanthropist was William's first foray into reform, and the newspaper advocated for the temperance movement. Not only was the National Philanthropist Garrison's entry into social reform, but the Bostonian paper also served as the gateway to the cause of anti–slavery. This gateway would be William's meeting with Benjamin Lundy in 1828, the editor of the anti–slavery Genius of Emancipation. Garrison became the editor of the Genius of Emancipation, and during his employment, he became cognizant of the injustices of African American slavery. While writing for the cause of African American liberty, he joined the American Colonization Society ("Garrison, William Lloyd"). The Society called for the resettlement of free blacks to Africa on the basis of their "notoriously ignorant, degraded and miserable" character (Faragher 442). It became clear to William that the ... • 31. The Reflection Of Management : Personal Experience Introduction I would like to begin with the quote "Knowing others is wisdom, mastering yourself is Enlightenment". In this course I have discovered more about myself all through the class formally as well as informally. To my surprise few of the Management skills I was performing in my day to day life in a corporate environment without even knowing it. And then there are some brand new skills I have learnt in the class, such as Tuckman's team model, Drexler/Sibbet team performance model. Personal Experience At first I was thinking I am a helper (Type 2 enneagram) but to my amazement, I found out that I am an Achiever (Type 3 enneagram). As a type 3 personalities are extroverts I did not find difficulty in any stages of "Tuckman's team model". All the process of forming, storming, norming, performing went well. And in our team almost all are extroverts so we sat and discussed about the 5 dysfunction of the team. We made sure in the beginning that there is a strong bond of trust in the team, so that no one felt left out of the group. In my academic and professional life I have taken presentation for several times, but sometimes I felt somewhere I am going wrong when I came across the unsatisfied audience. Though I made sure that I know about the subject very well still I cannot engage my audience fully. Just after this class I realised my mistake, even though I prepared well for the presentation I made a mistake by keeping the presentation more text oriented instead of ... • 32. The Experience Of Speaking : My Past Public Speaking... Overview Public speaking is a large part of any young adult's or professional's life. It is said that if you can't express your ideas in an understandable and complete way, that you might as well have not thought of them at all. Being able to express your opinions on matters is a life skill that will never stop being useful. To have nuanced and intelligent conversations, you need to be confident enough thatanxiety does not get in the way of your ability to convey your thoughts. Being a collected and thoughtful speaker is an invaluable skill that will help you excel in life in not only social, but economic matters as well. Public speaking is a challenging subject to cover since it is not a traditionally taught class. There are not any formulas to learn and for the most part, it is not a passive skill that you can pick up from just observing. The only way to tackle both the anxiety of public speaking, and the struggle to communicate your ideas in a coherent manner, is to get up and do public speaking, and fight through the struggles. My Past Public Speaking Experience I have had the fortune to have slightly more opportunities with public speaking than some of my peers due to my office job that I had for about a year. In that job, I had to frequently meet with my boss and his boss to present any ideas or concerns I had regarding the company's technological side of things. I had to do several presentations on different options for many of the tech based decisions they made. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Righteous In The Odyssey "Then [Abraham] said, 'Oh do not let the Lord be angry if I speak once more. Suppose ten are found there.' He answered, 'For the sake of ten I will not destroy it'" (Genesis 19.32). Abraham was bargaining with God over the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Lord agreed that, should ten righteous people be found in the city, that he would spare them from destruction. Regardless of the outcome, this demonstrates that the actions of a few could influence the fate of an entire city or nation. If this is true of the righteous then it could also be said that the actions of the unrighteous could influence God's favor. As with many characters within the Bible, he is not merely a foil to express the power of God. He has very real emotions which affect his ability to rule, and often control his actions. It would seem reasonable to many that Saul would take great pride in being the first king. In many cultures, titles are passed from father to son. It is seen in Israel that land is passed in this same way with the only exception being if there were only female heirs (Numbers 27.8–11). By becoming the king, Saul was ensuring that his bloodline would rule Israel, or so he thought. However, when he lost the favor of God he also lost the right to his throne because the Lord chose a new king. Even before there is conflict between Saul and David, there is evidence that he could be quick to anger. Samuel, when told to go an anoint David, is afraid of what Saul will do to him (1 Samuel 16.2). This also hints that Saul may have trouble controlling his emotions, even when faced with the knowledge that the new path was the will of God. His concern is with maintaining his earthly power rather than the good of the people. After all, if "a man sees those things that are apparent, but the Lord beholds the heart" it could be said that it would be a benefit to the nation if their leader was one who followed God ... • 34. Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind A man is riding an elephant down a road, the elephant will lean a direction and the rider tends to steer him there. Sometimes when the elephant doesn't know where to go the man will choose the way, and sometimes when the rider won't or can't steer the elephant will choose the path. But at some point there comes a fork in the road, and the elephant refuses to go down either, having to choose, the rider analyzes his choices. Down one path is a brood of vipers, which could kill the elephant, but the man would live, and down the other is a pride of lions, which could kill the man, but not the elephant. The man has two bad choices to make, he needs the elephant to get him where he is going, but to spare the elephant he would end up dead. I used a metaphor penned by Jonathan Haidt in his book, "The Righteous Mind" as a basis for my own metaphor of a moral conundrum. He uses an elephant to describe our intuition and the rider to represent our reasoning. What to do with the chronic homeless is a question with no truly moral answer, people won't agree ... All the questions I had come up with were answered, and I learned of many other incidents were the human race made mistakes. I learned that the Jews were the only group singled out for total organized annihilation by the Nazis. Every single Jew was to be killed according to the Nazis' plan. Nazi soldiers raided the Jews homes and and took them to camps where they were forced to work or be gassed. The whole family was taken, but only those capable of working long and hard were spared. The explanation of the Nazis' hatred of the Jew rests on their distorted world view that all of history was a racial struggle. They considered the Jews a race whose goal was world domination and who were a threat to Aryan dominance. They believed that all of history was a fight between races which should end in the triumph of the superior Aryan race. In their eyes, the Jews' racial origin made them criminals ... • 37. My Group Presentation During Week 10 My group presentation during week 10 was around the topic of women at work and more specifically maternity and paternity leave. A common perception of teamwork is that you either have a group that that works well together and finishes the assignment ahead of time or you have group where there is little communication and the assignment is a last minute activity resulting in a grade that is truly reflective of the effort and time taken. Fortunately for myself the group that was formed for this assignment worked well together and produced an exceptional presentation. I enjoy teamwork as it allows for ideas to be bounced off one another and a better understanding of issues and problems to be well comprehended. As well as being a chance to incorporate individuals talents within presentation new skills and the development of existing skills. Personally I feel as though I have a good level of skill for presenting an idea however I lack in the preparation are of a presentation I prefer to present something to an audience rather than find and conduct research for a presentation. However the other people in my group were good at finding information and crafting a brief outline around the presentation. This worked quite well for our group as we had a couple of confident speakers whom brought the presentation together. • 38. A Righteous Sacrifice: Worth It or Not A Righteous Sacrifice: Worth It or Not Many people are willing to sacrifice for what they desire, whether out of selfish or selfless motives they are willing to sacrifice themselves or others. This sacrifice is a costly and even puzzling act. One must wonder, is this sacrifice for better or for worse? Here are two stories that will show two different sides to this query. In Future Primitive "Hogfoot Right and Bird–Hands," there is an old woman who lives sometime in the future. Her pet cat had recently died. "In those days cats were rare and the old woman had not the means to purchase another" (Kilworth 75). With her only companion gone, she was now very lonely. The old woman was not paralyzed, nor was she sick, yet spent all her time in her bed–chair, never leaving her home as "she had no desire to take part in any physical activity of any sort. She merely went from one gray day to the next, sleeping, eating, and watching a device called a wallscreen, on which she could witness the lives of others, long since dead, over and over again" (Kilworth 75). She was unwilling to make the simple sacrifice of leaving her comfort zone, to go out into society, and meet a new friend like herself. The welfare machine went by her house in the middle of the night to check on her. It was then that she explained the situation with her cat, and how very lonely she was. The welfare machine recommended to her that she could remove one of her feet and transform it to be like a piglet. The old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Analysis Of The Righteous Mind By Jonathan Haidt Report and reflection of the book "The righteous mind" Jonathan Haidt while studying at the college put a goal to research human morality, its origin and development. His book "the Righteous mind" explores the morality and how it affects relationships between people? Is the moral in the genes, and occurs through education? The book examines the different conceptions of morality. Haidt mentions the theories of contemporary experts on ethics which demonstrate that young people can easily find justification for the actions that have recently all been condemned. He brought some wild story and asked to evaluate it from the point of view of morality. For example, a pet dog, almost a family member, was hit by a car. The owner is mourned, but then he remembered that he has never eaten dog meat. Instead of having to bury the dog, he ate it. The woman was going to do a General cleaning and was looking for rags for cleaning. Then she found the old American flag. She tore it to rags and washed them down the toilet. Mark and Julie are brother and sister. Once they're alone in a secluded place and decided to have sex. They were both adults free, when they were contraceptives. They decided that it would be closer to each other. The experience was successful. When Haidt asked people if the these actions of people were okay. To the question, why not eat a dead dog, the group of students gave answers like "meat can be harmful or dirty." You cannot wash the toilet with scraps of the flag, because they can clog the drain if you accidentally get there. You can't commit incest, because it can be born sick children – after all, no contraceptive does not give an absolute guarantee. All these rational explanations do not stand up to ... The theme of Romans is the revelation of God's judging and saving righteousness in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Judgment in the New Testament was misconstrued among the unrighteousness of the Jews until Paul's message clarified the meaning of God's judgment and kindness. The focus will be on this practically passage, Romans 2: 1–11. It is imperative to understand the correct identification of this passage, the analysis of literary style and characteristics of both the book of Romans and the passage, the cultural and historical background, the appropriate exegetical approach, the identification and explanation of any unique and significant phrases, and the modern relevance of the passage. This is the key to understanding the book of Romans and the passage appropriately. CORRECT IDENTIFICATION OF THE PASSAGE It is important to understand the placement of Romans among Paul's letters. It is likely that Paul wrote Romans from Corinth on his third missionary journey between 56 and 57 A.D. Phoebe is said to have brought the letter to Rome because Paul accredits her in Romans 16:1–2. The use of dialogue in the ethnography is affective at depicting the lives and thoughts of the homeless through their own words and not through the words of the ethnographer. Another theme that appears in Righteous Dopefiend is the use of the ethnographer's fieldnotes, which usually included dialogue between the ethnographer and one or more of the participants, but also the thoughts of the ethnographers themselves. It is affective to have the thoughts and observations of the ethnographer in an ethnography as it usually paints a clearer picture of situations and can uncover lies told by the participants as well as provide definitions of focal vocabulary used by the participants. In between the mountains of dialogue, fieldnotes, and images the authors also included explanations for situations, statistics, and relevant–worldly information at the time of its writing, which comprised the bulk of the ethnography. Jeff and Philippe would talk about the participant's daily routines, backgrounds, and family but would also talk about things such as the economy, politics, healthcare, and the legal system. The use of all these different aspects and writing styles allowed the authors to create a powerful representation of the events the homeless dealt with from not only an economic and political perspective, but also a personal and familial level. This resulted in a strong emotional appeal from the readers and really tested the cultural relativism of both the ethnographers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
