Media eval 3
1. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA
INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
2. PRODUCTION PROCESS
The production process involves three key stages, pre production, production and
post production.
Pre production is where the planning happens. The location is chosen, the script is
made and what actors/actresses are going to be involved etc. The production
company also budgets their money in this process.
The Production process involves filming and in this stage it is crucial that the
production company hire good technical equipment so that they have good quality
footage.
Post production is the last process and in this stage it is where all the editing goes on
and this is done on different types of programmes, for example Final Cut Pro X.
3. DISTRIBUTION
Distribution can be referred to as ‘the piggy in the middle’ or ‘the invisible art’ in the
industry of film. It can be called these two phrases because people usually know the least
information about distribution than other stages. The distributor has two key roles which are
logistics and marketing. Logistics is getting the film to the exhibitor and marketing is
creating an audience for the film. This can be done through posters, trailers, TV spots etc.
Distributing our Thriller –
we came to the conclusion that our Thriller would be a British independent film. There are
many UK independent distribution companies out in the industry already an some are:
- BBC
- Film4
- STUDIOCANEL
I feel that a British independent distribution company would distribute our film because
firstly it being a UK film and also that we had a small budget unlike major distributors in the
UK.
5. EXHIBITION
Exhibition is the stage where the final media product is show to an audience, for
example at a cinema.
Here they have to be careful where they show the media product as they would
need to make sure that where it is aired that there is the right audience in which the
media product is aimed at. As our audience is for teens (15+) it would seem a good
place to air the film in a multi-complex because our audience can meet up with
friends and make a day/evening out of going to the cinema as there is usually
bowling and arcade facilities.
