On Polonius and Class Ideology
The development of Polonius through his interactions with others serves as an aspect of
Shakespeare's Hamlet particularly suited for a Marxist analysis. While his pompous and long–
winded ramblings have served as comic fodder for generations of readers, a Marxist reading reveals
the insidious nature behind the text's contempt for royal sycophancy. Polonius, who is of a lower–
class status than the royal family, and who presumably lives during a feudal era which featured
asymmetric distributions of wealth and power privileging the royalty and their allies, most probably
regales figures of the royal family with circuitous servility to secure his survival as a member of a
subordinate class. However, the text portrays Polonius's incessantly pompous sycophantic
tendencies as reflections of his, and in extension the noble class's, inner character. Implicit in this
portrayal is a classist ideology which ascribes inherent characteristics to lower classes, using these
traits to justify the differential treatment of the classes.
Hamlet uses Polonius's initial interactions within a domestic setting and the royal court to establish
Polonius's character. When Polonius notarizes Reynaldo to spy on Laertes, Polonius lauds his
method with such rhetorical flourishes as "wisdom and of reach" and "with windlasses and assays of
bias," to ensure that his 'grand' scheme is not lost on Reynaldo (2.1.61–62). The text chooses to
show Polonius strutting such ornate rhetoric to commend himself, even when there is no one to
impress beyond his own servant, to illustrate how Polonius is by his very nature pompous. When

A tower is simply a tall structure, used for various functions that are made possible by its height.
The metaphor of the tower as used in the Souls of White Folk, can be most closely associated with
observation. An army general would use a physical tower to survey defensive positions or obtain a
better view of the battlefield. From his tower, Dubois observes the interactions between humanity,
and is especially interested in White Folk. Moreover, through his observation from the tower, can
claim a general understanding of the battle and formulate an appropriate strategy. Dubois' metaphor
of the tower in the Souls of White Folk is exactly this claim. He asserts that he completely
understands the thoughts and actions of white people. Furthermore, the characteristics and function
of this view of the tower are present in the themes, tone and structure of the text.

The Film : A New Age Dawn
Toy Story was released in 1995, the animation saw a new age dawn. Not only did it introduce CGI
(Computer Generated Imagery); but also, showed the capacity from humanity and emotion that
director John Lasseter and the rest of the team brought to the animated film. The film uses a
constructed text to put across a theme of two complete different characters learning how to work
together beyond their rivalries to rise above a common enemy and work towards a common goal.
The Film uses characters and imagery to portray this theme. The music in the film is also different to
other Disney features. Rather than the characters bursting into song themselves as in the movie
Hercules, the songs are played and sung by an outside person (Randy Newman) and reflect the
mood and emotions of characters in a scene. For example, the title sequence song "Friend in Me",
when Woody and Andy are playing together, and the scene where Andy's room has been made over
to a Buzz Lightyear theme, "Strange Things" where the song reflects Woody's confusion and fear
not only about the change his surrounding but also the change in his friends and his own character.
The attention to the smallest detail for example the reflections in Buzz's visor give the film even
more realism and depth. The use of unusual and imaginative camera angles made it possible by

the outside, Enron looked like a well run, innovative company. This was largely a result of self–
created businesses or ventures that were made "off the balance sheet." These side businesses would
sell stock, reporting profits, but not reporting losses. "Treating these businesses "off the balance
sheet" meant that Enron pretended that these businesses were autonomous, separate firms. But, if the
new business made money, Enron would report it as income. If the new business lost money or

Arrian is also quick to criticise Alexander when it is deserved, this is indicated by the disgust that he
felt at the "servile behaviour" that Alexander allowed many of his followers to indulge in. This not

leeches, hot–blooded lovers and garrulous, gossiping women. While few people exhibit these
failings with abandonment, few escape their taint altogether. In the novel "Pride and
Prejudice," the author Jane Austen satirizes these instances of – not social evils– rather, unpleasant
social peculiarities, via a most careful use of irony in the dialogues and thoughts of some of her
most delightful characters. The main character indulging in this precious commodity is Mr. Bennet,
