Characteristics InStreet Scene, By Ian Frazier
Narrative Assignment
Narrative writers use many different techniques to describe and enhance the theme and/or main idea of their story. TO make the plot as realistic as
possible, authors use imagery and other figurative language to help the reader better imagine the story. Hyperboles, metaphors, and irony can also be
used to prove a point and make the story more humorous or suspenseful.
3 Stories Using these Characteristics
The narrative "Street Scene" by the author Ian Frazier uses vivid imagery and excellent dialogue to help better immerse the reader in the story. A
great example of this would be when he describes the people helping save the victim in a very detailed way, proven by the quote; "A slight,
brown–haired woman was giving her mouth–to–mouth resuscitation, while a well–built brown–skinned man with hair close–cropped like a skullcap
was performing chest massage." Using imagery like this can allow the reader to feel like they are in the action, and imagine the situation in their head
exactly how it is told in the story.
"Shooting an Elephant" by George Orwell uses imagery as well, describing not only his surrounding but his thoughts in superb detail as well. He also
uses suspense techniques to keep the reader interested in the story. One such example of him describing his thoughts in detail would be ". I thought
then and I think now that his attack of "must" was already passing off; in which case he would merely wander harmlessly about until the mahout came

Current–ish Event: Death of Muhammad Ali
Many things have happened this years. Trump was recently elected, a gorilla got shot and turned into a meme, and everyone in America is just not
happy to be here. While this certain event might not be too current, it's something that captured my interest more than any of the other topics presented
to me. I am, of course, talking about the legend that is Muhammad Ali, world famous boxer, as most people know him. He sadly died this year, but,
there's more to him than just boxing and dying. Back in 1942, in Louisville Kentucky, Muhammad Ali was born onto this world and was first known

At first, he called himself "Cassius X", before settling on the name Muhammad Ali. Ali later started a different kind of fight with his outspoken
views against the Vietnam War. Drafted into the military in April 1967, he refused to serve on the grounds that he was a practicing Muslim minister
with religious beliefs that prevented him from fighting. He was arrested for committing a felony and almost immediately stripped of his world title
and boxing license. The U.S. Department of Justice pursued a legal case against Ali, denying his claim for conscientious objector status. He was
found guilty of violating selective service laws and sentenced to five years in prison in June 1967, but remained free while appealing his conviction.
Unable to compete professionally in the meantime, Ali missed more than three prime years of his athletic career, though, the U.S. Supreme Court
eventually overturned the conviction in June 1971. Ali went back to the ring in 1970, to proclaim his rightful place as a boxer. His first notable fight
during this era was with Joe Frazier, with the fight lasting for 14 rounds, before Frazier took down Ali on the fifthteenth round and took the victory. Ali
did beat him down one day, during 1974, and that same year, Ali went up against undefeated heavyweight champion at the timeGeorge Foreman, with
Ali winning and taking the win at the eighth round. Ali and Frazier did fight again, in the year 1975, and Ali won once again, with Frazier's coach

for more than two years and Ali proved this to be true by beating Frazier in a rematch in 1974. After being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, there

As Muhammad Ali once stated, "Don't count the days; make the days count" ("Boxing in the 1960s."). Looking back on his life, that is exactly what
he did throughout his life. During his lifetime, he impacted many and also made countless statements that still ring true today. His impact on the
outlook of the Vietnam War was influential for many, and it motivated others to push for civil rights like he did. A lot of fellow activists approved of
his actions, while others were very against what he believed in. Clearly, Muhammad Ali, otherwise known as Cassius Clay, was a controversial topic
during the Vietnam War.

making the trip possible ("Muhammad Ali." St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture). He entered as a light heavyweight boxer for the United
States. Dominating all of his opponents leading up to the championship match, Clay was riding high. Soon after learning whom he would face in the
final match, he knew that he would be the next gold medalist. With a runaway win, Cassius Clay triumphed in his defeat over Polish coffeehouse
owner, Zbigniew Pietrzykowski (Gewen). As an 18–year–old, Cassius Clay was a gold–medalist in the 1960 Rome Olympics. After returning home,
Clay signed contracts with ten different millionaire companies in Kentucky. The Louisville Sponsoring Group provided all of these companies to
support Cassius Clay's winning career. This company hired retired boxer, Archie Moore, to train him, but Clay did not approve of this and hired his

Kenneth Frazier Beliefs
1)In my point of view, Kenneth Frazier is a very persistent and strong–minded man. He is a man who works really hard in order to accomplish his
goals. Frazier was not pleased about law school until he was admitted to Harvard University. That let us know that Frazier has never settled, he
always pushed himself to do better in everything. Also, he is a risky man, he does not mind to spend a lot of money on his plans, because he wants to
see what he is able to achieve at the end. 2)Frazier is a man that has some terminal values, but in my opinion the value especially important to him is the
desire of accomplishment, he is astute and determined. Since Frazier was little, his father taught him to work–hard and to always do his best for
excellence.

Summary Of ' Hungry Minds ' By Ian Frazier
Hunger is something we experience every single day, but the hunger I am talking about isn't what you are thinking. Hunger is when something is
missing or absent. It can be emotionally, physically, physiological or spiritual. We are always hungry for something in life and as an adult, you are
never truly full. We are constantly striving for more and to fulfill all types ofhunger. This is perfectly described in the of Ian Frazier's article, "Hungry
Minds."
Frazier describes different people that are involved with the soup kitchen and they are all there because they are hungry, some for food but majority is
there to fulfill a deeper hunger. Father Rand Frew was the one who suggested to start the soup kitchen because he wanted to feed his need of starting
something that would make a difference. I can relate to Father Rand Frew in this aspect because I am too hungry for that. I want to make a difference
and right now in my life, I feel deprived of this. That is why I am here at Warner Pacific College to fulfill that hunger. I am exhausted of my current job
as a billing specialist for a long term care pharmacy. The work I do every day tends to get overlooked. I am looking to get the "Atta boy!" or the pat on
the back but all I get right now is a paycheck and a cold room to sit in. I need to see that my work is making a difference to keep myself motivated and
strive to work harder. I want to eventually have that job that makes me feel good as a person and make me feel proud. I

Analysis Of In Praise Of Margins By Ian Frazier
Purposeless Places and Pointless Pastimes The essay "In Praise of Margins" by Ian Frazier is about the value of marginal activities and places.
When something is considered marginal, it means that it doesn't generally work out or have a purpose. However, to Frazier, marginal places or
activities are seen as purposeless to others, but are valuable to the person taking part in the marginal behavior. Frazier says "the margin is where you
can try out odd ideas that you might be afraid to admit to with people looking on" and that "marginal behavior can be the most important kind" (Frazier
305). This means that they can be considered strange, crazy, or something you may notwant to try in public. He thinks they are important because they
are considered full of purpose at the time the place is visited or the behavior done. We need these places and activities in our lives. I agree with
Frazier that marginal places and activities are valuable, for they can give us the opportunity to bring back fond memories, provide a space or hobby to
release frustrations, and bring us happiness.
The value of marginal activities can stem from many different things, but the importance of my marginal action comes from reminding me of happy
memories. This activity is spinning my color guard rifle. I enjoyed color guard throughout high school. It filled me with enjoyment and it
entertained me while I made friends and gained a new skill. There is no color guard at my college, so any spinning I take part in now is considered
marginal. Whenever I go outside my dorm with my rifle, someone almost always asks what the rifle is for, and when I explain to them that it's for
color guard and that I'm not on a guard, they are curious as to why I still spin it. I play with my rifle because I'm reminded of my high school color
guard memories. I remember the friendships I had in guard and the happiness my friends gave me when we spent time together at sleepovers, practices,
and spa days. Remembering these friendships is vital for my personal development because the friendships I formed help me reminisce. When I
preform my marginal activity I comforted by memories where my teammates were there for throughout hard times. When I had trouble

How Did Muhammad Ali Influence The World
Introduction
I chose to do my history project on Muhammad Ali because he influenced and inspired people worldwide through sport and politics. He was one of
the world's most successful heavyweight champions ever and he acted as one of the major figures in the American civil rights movement. He is
remembered today through his hard work in the ring and his political movement that would forever change the rights of
black people in America.
Early Life
Muhammad Ali grew up in southern America where he experienced racial prejudice and discrimination first hand. At the age of 12 Muhammad Ali
discovered his talent for boxing and with the help of a police officer he progressed his skills to a competition level. He became an amateur boxer, and in
1954 he won his first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He retired in
1981 with 56 wins out of 61 professional matches making him one the world's most successful heavy weight boxers of
all time.
Racial beliefs
Throughout his career Muhammad Ali stood up for civil rights for black people in politics and often made public speeches expressing his opinion. He
supported and admired other activists such as Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. One of his famous quotes was "My enemy is the white people, not
Viet Cong or Chinese or Japanese. You my opposer when I want freedom. You my opposer when I want justice. You my opposer when I want equality.
You won't even stand up for me in America for my religious beliefs–and you want me to go somewhere and fight, but you won't even stand
up for me here at home? "–Muhammad Ali to a crowd of college
students during his exile.
After his retirement
Between 1964 and 1986 Muhammad Ali got married four times and had nine children. When he retired from boxing he was married to Lonnie
Williams and he was with her until he died in 2016. In 1984 he announced he had Parkinson's disease but he never let it control his life and continued

In Praise Of Margins By Ian Frazier
In the essay, "In Praise of Margins" Ian Frazier constantly mentions the importance of "marginal" behavior within places and activities as he interprets
this concept as an aimless wonder that essentially does not provide anything for the economic world. I agree with Frazier's claims as demonstrated
through the potential of margins in discovering new ideas, assisting creativity, and helping others get out of their comfort zones. This is established
throughout the essay as a way encourage the reader to pursue activities or places for the purpose of pure happiness. One of the reoccurring scenes
throughout the article is the woods, which is utilized to express the youth of Frazier as a, "Blue Sky Research" area. He elaborates this idea in the essay
where he states, "The margin is where you can try out odd ideas that you might be afraid to with people looking on". It is vivid that Frazier is seeking
to communicate to the reader the benefits of marginal activities as well as the reasoning being such an activity. This can be exemplified through a
personal experience where I was participating in a marginal activity by aimlessly listening to music throughout a classroom session, which as a result,
would allow me to perform higher academically. This relates to the argument that Frazier was attempting to convey of how marginalize activities can
be some of the most essential, as I was able to realize this effect on me and suggest the idea to my teacher which then lead to a positive

Born Cassius Marcellus Clay in Louisville, Kentucky in 1942, Muhammad Ali was a professional boxer in the 1960's, 70's and 80's. Ali was first

Ali considered himself a conscientious objector and cited his religious views as well as teachings from the Qur'an as rationale for resisting his
draft to the military. While this angered many establishment Americans at the time, many people worldwide praised Ali's decision. Due to his
achievements in boxing, he had a platform from which he could speak his mind. In doing so, he criticized a war he believed was unjust and wrong.
Because of his refusal to join the military, Ali was stripped of his boxing titles, had his boxing licence revoked for 3 years, was fined $10,000 and
was sentenced to 5 years in prison for draft evasion. Although Ali didn't spend any time in prison, his boxing licence, and consequentially his
livelihood, was taken from him. With no source of income, Ali travelled the country to point out the vices of the Vietnam War. Ali delivered speeches

In 1959, Ali went on to win Amateur Athletic Union National Title of the Heavyweight Division as well as the Golden Glove championship. These

Frazier helped and took care of Ali. Because of Ali's suspension his coach left him and went to train other boxers who defeated Muhammad. His

Ssg Frazier Legacy
In this paper, I will be explaining what a legacy leader is and the impact one specific leader had on my career and the Army. In December of 2011 I
reported to Joint Base Lewis–McCord and was assigned to 1/17 IN BN part of 2nd Striker BDE Combat Team. I had arrived at a unit that was
preparing for a hard deployment to Afghanistan after a vigorous training cycle. I had walked in to my office to meet the team I would be leading
into a combat zone that had zero experience, except for SSG Frazier that had a "been there done that" attitude. SSG Frazier was not as focused as a
leader should be when prepping for a deployment with new Soldiers. The area that our unit would move to was the area that the Taliban was founded
by Mullah Omar in Zhari District Southern Afghanistan (RC South). I had to quickly adjust to a high operation temp of a unit getting ready to deploy
with little to no experience. After meeting SSG Frazier, I decided to meet the BN Commander and CSM to get a better understanding of the mission

Analysis : In Praise Of Margins By Ian Frazier
Places have the ability to trigger memories from one's childhood and experiences. In the excerpt, "In Praise of Margins," by Ian Frazier, the author
argues that marginal places and activities are necessary for our lives because they grant us the opportunity to use our imaginations to have fun
without fearing judgment from others. According to Fraizer, these places lack a purpose and don't need to have an economic value nor need to be
productive to be considered valuable. Marginal places are simply a place for you and/or your friends to reminisce all of your memories and reflect
back on who you were and how you've become who you are now. These marginals are considered to be any place or activity that serve an unintentional
purpose. Typically, they originate from childhood adventures such as running around the woods, providing an unintended consequence of a sense of
exploration. Through my personal experiences, all of our marginal places and activities change as we age throughout our lives due to societal
expectations, but they remain significant because they inspire creativity and allow us to be ourselves.
When we feel overwhelmed with responsibilities, we use our creativity to find solace in marginal spaces and moments. When I was a child, I was
able to find comfort at the beach in times of sadness and distress. Sitting on the shore with my eyes closed, I would listen intently to the seagulls and
the thunderous crashing of the waves hitting the rocks as the ocean breeze brushed softly against my face. In that very moment, I imagined myself on a
deserted island as my mind silenced itself from thought, free of any worries and concerns. On my deserted island, I created my own world, and my
imagination took me to places I never thought it could go. Using my imagination, I built sand castles as shelter and I caught sand crabs as food. In
my world, I was able to express my individuality by being whoever I wanted and doing anything I desired without limitations. My deserted island is
similar to Frazier's childhood place in "the woods." When Frazier and his friends spent their times in the woods, they were able to let their
imaginations run wild "where [they tried] out odd ideas" such as making forts, forming

Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier Essay example
Cold Mountain
In Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain, the theme of music is one of the novel's most powerful themes. From symbolizing character growth to the healing
of physical wounds, music plays an integral part in this novel. While many critics will point out that music has little effect on the human psyche,
Charles Frazier shows his belief that music does indeed have a profound effect on the human mind throughout Cold Mountain. Throughout the novel,
Inman, Ada, Ruby, Stobrod, and many other characters experience music that allows them to keep faith against the odds or even heal their wounds!
There are three major types of music used in this novel; hymn music, folk music, and "natural music". It is through these types of music that ... Show

But Monroe preached that they were misunderstanding the song if they fooled themselves into thinking all creation would someday love them.
What it really required was for them to love all creation" (78). Monroe used the hymns of his church as a means to spread his ideas of how people
ought to live their lives. This pattern is also apparent with Inman. When he meets Swimmer, a Native American, he learns of a chant that could "kill
the soul of an enemy" (20). Inman cannot accept this notion because "he had been taught by sermon and hymn to hold as truth that the soul of man
never dies" (20). Charles Frazier believed in the power of hymn to influence what people believed about spirituality and the soul. This parallels the
historical usage of hymns in church during the Civil War as well as in today's church as a means to pass down culture. Hymn music also had the
ability to strengthen the Church and to solidify the beliefs of the parishioners. There is a large disagreement over the influence of religious music over a
person's beliefs. The evangelical song leaders believed that religious music moved people with no faith to a life dedicated to praising God, but people
from outside the church described religious music as "cheap and tawdry" (Squire 242). According to the United Evangelical Front religious music was
a way to articulate God's plan and extend the influence of religion outside of the church

Frazier Case
FRASIER (A) ANALYSIS
This case outlines the background of the negotiations between NBC (National Broadcasting Corporation) and Paramount for the extension of
renegotiating the rights to the TV show, Frasier. While NBC wanted to pay under $5 million per episode in order to make a profit, Paramount
seemed to be demanding $8 million per episode. This was a very big gap considering that there were 24 episodes per season and that Paramount
wanted a three year term on the renegotiated contracted. The key parties in this case are NBC (represented by Mark Graboff, Scott Sassa and Jeff
Zucker) and Paramount (represented by Kerry McCluggage and Gary Hart).
What is NBC's BATNA?

Since Paramount could not negotiate for a price lower than $5 million with other networks, Viacom probably would not agree to a loss making deal
unless it felt that Frasier would have a significant impact on other CBS shows (in other words, be a 'tent pole') as well as on CBS' internal power
struggle.
What is your best estimate of their respective reservation prices ("walk away price")? Be sure and explain your answer. Don't just give a number.
The initial offer from Paramount was a 20% increase over what NBC was paying. This translates to roughly about $6 million per episode. However,
NBC's initial number was 5% less than what they were paying currently. This translates to roughly about $4.75 million per episode. Later, Paramount
came down by $500,000 per episode ($5.5 million per episode). This still represented a sizable difference.
Based on these facts, I would put Paramount's reservation price being in the range of $5–$5.25 million per episode. This is because their BATNA is
not very strong and the fact that NBC were the industry leaders in terms of license fees, especially for prime–time shows. Additionally, they called
NBC to still work on the deal, which gives a strong hint that they were still open to negotiation. On the other hand, NBC's reservation price would be
in the range of $5.5–$5.75 million. Though NBC's BATNA is also not very strong, they have other alternatives. And

The term "legend" is overused, often directed at individuals who are undeserving of the title. Such is not the case for legendary boxer and
humanitarian Muhammed Ali. After a long battle with Parkinson's disease, Ali finally succumbed to complications this past week while being treated
for respiratory issues in a Phoenix hospital. He was 74–years old.
Ali's boxing career was marked by both brilliance and controversy. As a brash young pugilist, he made his mark on the boxing world in the late 1960s
through the 1970s with a record of 55–5. During this time, he claimed the World Heavyweight title three times (a record) and fought some of the sport's
greatest fighters. Among his most dangerous opponents were Hall of Fame fighters like Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Floyd

While his "trash talking" brought with it a lot of entertainment value, it also offended people in the sport who took exception to some of his comments.
To non–boxing fans, he will always be remembered as the "conscientious objector" who refused to enlist for military service in Vietnam due to his
Islamic beliefs. His decision riled the nation, resulting in a 3–year suspension from boxing. After resuming his boxing career, he would continue his
siege on the Heavyweight title.
Outside of the ring, Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay) garnered a reputation as a true humanitarian. Even during the 20–something years he was
battling Parkinson's, he traveled the world and spoke out about poverty, racial inequality and the quest for peace throughout the world. It is in his role

Bushido means "way of the warrior". The Code of Bushido was followed by the ancient Japanese, which respected the ways of warrior. It was a
code that taught the Japanese dedication and respect for their Emperor and their family. The code had required warriors to exhibit a strict sense of
honor and self control, maintain a benevolent yet detached attitude towards life, care for the Earth and other people, and be loyal to one's country
and family. However, the Emperor had used the Code of Bushido to brainwash and control soldiers. The Emperor used it as a tool to motivate the
people to murder and die for the code. According to the Japanese, if you surrendered, you would disappoint your family and country. In World War
II when the Japanese were held prisoner in Cowra prison in Australia, many of them changed their names so that their parents assumed they were
dead rather than disappointing them. The Code of Bushido made the Japanese treat the Americans and Filipinos in a savage and brutal manner.
Moreover, the Japanese's treatment of prisoners affected how Americans saw them. The Americans believed the Japanese were brutal human beings.
The Americans saw them as that because during the Bataan Death March, if you stopped marching, the Japanese would kill you with a bayonet or
rifle. Then, if you tried to help someone who fell, you would get beaten or stabbed. Also for a sport, Japanese soldiers would fracture sculls with rifle

that the "Muhammad Ali" in the film did not portray his real life self. That he was forced to say what a bunch of 'white writers' put in front of him to

The Cold Mountain, By Charles Frazier
Within Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain, religion is an ever present component to the novel. This is prevalent within Inman, Ada and Monroe,
Swimmer, and the mountain town itself. At times, characters will present aspects of religion that do not coincide with the common Christian beliefs
within Cold Mountain, such as Monroe's teachings or Swimmer's own religion as opposed to Christianity. Each religious person or reference within
the story creates a sense of differentiating views as well as an introduction to multiple perspectives of religion, self, and action. Regarding Inman and
his view of Christianity, he has a deep connection to the church. When Monroe arrived at the church, the townspeople were skeptical of his sermons
because his view of religion did not pose God as a punishing god, separating his belief from the previous beliefs of the mountain people. Monroe
began to give the people of Cold Mountain a new view and perspective of religion, one not included in their presumably primitive Baptist
background. Monroe quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson, which follows the belief that nature is a way in which God shows his love for the world.
According to Inman's remembrance of one of Monroe's quotes, it goes as follows, "that which shows God in me, fortifies me. That which shows
God out of me, makes me a ward and a wen. There is no longer a necessary reason for my being. Already the long shadows of untimely oblivion creep

  • 4. Characteristics InStreet Scene, By Ian Frazier Narrative Assignment Narrative writers use many different techniques to describe and enhance the theme and/or main idea of their story. TO make the plot as realistic as possible, authors use imagery and other figurative language to help the reader better imagine the story. Hyperboles, metaphors, and irony can also be used to prove a point and make the story more humorous or suspenseful. 3 Stories Using these Characteristics The narrative "Street Scene" by the author Ian Frazier uses vivid imagery and excellent dialogue to help better immerse the reader in the story. A great example of this would be when he describes the people helping save the victim in a very detailed way, proven by the quote; "A slight, brown–haired woman was giving her mouth–to–mouth resuscitation, while a well–built brown–skinned man with hair close–cropped like a skullcap was performing chest massage." Using imagery like this can allow the reader to feel like they are in the action, and imagine the situation in their head exactly how it is told in the story. "Shooting an Elephant" by George Orwell uses imagery as well, describing not only his surrounding but his thoughts in superb detail as well. He also uses suspense techniques to keep the reader interested in the story. One such example of him describing his thoughts in detail would be ". I thought then and I think now that his attack of "must" was already passing off; in which case he would merely wander harmlessly about until the mahout came ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trump was recently elected, a gorilla got shot and turned into a meme, and everyone in America is just not happy to be here. I am, of course, talking about the legend that is Muhammad Ali, world famous boxer, as most people know him. He sadly died this year, but, there's more to him than just boxing and dying. Ali later started a different kind of fight with his outspoken views against the Vietnam War. Drafted into the military in April 1967, he refused to serve on the grounds that he was a practicing Muslim minister with religious beliefs that prevented him from fighting. He was arrested for committing a felony and almost immediately stripped of his world title and boxing license. The U.S. Department of Justice pursued a legal case against Ali, denying his claim for conscientious objector status. He was found guilty of violating selective service laws and sentenced to five years in prison in June 1967, but remained free while appealing his conviction. Unable to compete professionally in the meantime, Ali missed more than three prime years of his athletic career, though, the U.S. Supreme Court eventually overturned the conviction in June 1971. Ali went back to the ring in 1970, to proclaim his rightful place as a boxer. His first notable fight during this era was with Joe Frazier, with the fight lasting for 14 rounds, before Frazier took down Ali on the fifthteenth round and took the victory. Ali did beat him down one day, during 1974, and that same year, Ali went up against undefeated heavyweight champion at the timeGeorge Foreman, with Ali winning and taking the win at the eighth round. After returning from his three year forced leave of absence of boxing Ali foughtJoe Frazier in the fight of the century at the Madison Square Garden and was defeated in in seven rounds but many believe that the only reason he lost was because he was away from the sport for more than two years and Ali proved this to be true by beating Frazier in a rematch in 1974. After being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, there wasn't much left of Ali's motor skills and speech, Parkinson's has taken away a lot from this man – a lot that would put people in bed make them cover their heads and never look up. He has a lot to be depressed about. The adjustment [has been] terrific. But I think he is secure in who he is, and about his place in history. Looking back on his life, that is exactly what he did throughout his life. During his lifetime, he impacted many and also made countless statements that still ring true today. His impact on the outlook of the Vietnam War was influential for many, and it motivated others to push for civil rights like he did. A lot of fellow activists approved of his actions, while others were very against what he believed in. Soon after learning whom he would face in the final match, he knew that he would be the next gold medalist. • 9. Kenneth Frazier Beliefs 1)In my point of view, Kenneth Frazier is a very persistent and strong–minded man. He is a man who works really hard in order to accomplish his goals. Frazier was not pleased about law school until he was admitted to Harvard University. That let us know that Frazier has never settled, he always pushed himself to do better in everything. Also, he is a risky man, he does not mind to spend a lot of money on his plans, because he wants to see what he is able to achieve at the end. 2)Frazier is a man that has some terminal values, but in my opinion the value especially important to him is the desire of accomplishment, he is astute and determined. Since Frazier was little, his father taught him to work–hard and to always do his best for excellence. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Summary Of ' Hungry Minds ' By Ian Frazier Hunger is something we experience every single day, but the hunger I am talking about isn't what you are thinking. Hunger is when something is missing or absent. It can be emotionally, physically, physiological or spiritual. We are always hungry for something in life and as an adult, you are never truly full. We are constantly striving for more and to fulfill all types ofhunger. This is perfectly described in the of Ian Frazier's article, "Hungry Minds." Frazier describes different people that are involved with the soup kitchen and they are all there because they are hungry, some for food but majority is there to fulfill a deeper hunger. Father Rand Frew was the one who suggested to start the soup kitchen because he wanted to feed his need of starting something that would make a difference. I can relate to Father Rand Frew in this aspect because I am too hungry for that. I want to make a difference and right now in my life, I feel deprived of this. • 14. Analysis Of In Praise Of Margins By Ian Frazier Purposeless Places and Pointless Pastimes The essay "In Praise of Margins" by Ian Frazier is about the value of marginal activities and places. When something is considered marginal, it means that it doesn't generally work out or have a purpose. However, to Frazier, marginal places or activities are seen as purposeless to others, but are valuable to the person taking part in the marginal behavior. Frazier says "the margin is where you can try out odd ideas that you might be afraid to admit to with people looking on" and that "marginal behavior can be the most important kind" (Frazier 305). This means that they can be considered strange, crazy, or something you may notwant to try in public. He thinks they are important because they are considered full of purpose at the time the place is visited or the behavior done. We need these places and activities in our lives. I agree with Frazier that marginal places and activities are valuable, for they can give us the opportunity to bring back fond memories, provide a space or hobby to release frustrations, and bring us happiness. The value of marginal activities can stem from many different things, but the importance of my marginal action comes from reminding me of happy memories. This activity is spinning my color guard rifle. I enjoyed color guard throughout high school. It filled me with enjoyment and it entertained me while I made friends and gained a new skill. There is no color guard at my college, so any spinning I take part in now is considered marginal. Whenever I go outside my dorm with my rifle, someone almost always asks what the rifle is for, and when I explain to them that it's for color guard and that I'm not on a guard, they are curious as to why I still spin it. I play with my rifle because I'm reminded of my high school color guard memories. I remember the friendships I had in guard and the happiness my friends gave me when we spent time together at sleepovers, practices, and spa days. Remembering these friendships is vital for my personal development because the friendships I formed help me reminisce. When I preform my marginal activity I comforted by memories where my teammates were there for throughout hard times. When I had trouble ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. In Praise Of Margins By Ian Frazier In the essay, "In Praise of Margins" Ian Frazier constantly mentions the importance of "marginal" behavior within places and activities as he interprets this concept as an aimless wonder that essentially does not provide anything for the economic world. I agree with Frazier's claims as demonstrated through the potential of margins in discovering new ideas, assisting creativity, and helping others get out of their comfort zones. This is established throughout the essay as a way encourage the reader to pursue activities or places for the purpose of pure happiness. One of the reoccurring scenes throughout the article is the woods, which is utilized to express the youth of Frazier as a, "Blue Sky Research" area. He elaborates this idea in the essay where he states, "The margin is where you can try out odd ideas that you might be afraid to with people looking on". It is vivid that Frazier is seeking to communicate to the reader the benefits of marginal activities as well as the reasoning being such an activity. This can be exemplified through a personal experience where I was participating in a marginal activity by aimlessly listening to music throughout a classroom session, which as a result, would allow me to perform higher academically. This relates to the argument that Frazier was attempting to convey of how marginalize activities can be some of the most essential, as I was able to realize this effect on me and suggest the idea to my teacher which then lead to a positive ... • 24. Analysis : In Praise Of Margins By Ian Frazier Places have the ability to trigger memories from one's childhood and experiences. In the excerpt, "In Praise of Margins," by Ian Frazier, the author argues that marginal places and activities are necessary for our lives because they grant us the opportunity to use our imaginations to have fun without fearing judgment from others. According to Fraizer, these places lack a purpose and don't need to have an economic value nor need to be productive to be considered valuable. Marginal places are simply a place for you and/or your friends to reminisce all of your memories and reflect back on who you were and how you've become who you are now. These marginals are considered to be any place or activity that serve an unintentional purpose. Typically, they originate from childhood adventures such as running around the woods, providing an unintended consequence of a sense of exploration. Through my personal experiences, all of our marginal places and activities change as we age throughout our lives due to societal expectations, but they remain significant because they inspire creativity and allow us to be ourselves. When we feel overwhelmed with responsibilities, we use our creativity to find solace in marginal spaces and moments. When I was a child, I was able to find comfort at the beach in times of sadness and distress. Sitting on the shore with my eyes closed, I would listen intently to the seagulls and the thunderous crashing of the waves hitting the rocks as the ocean breeze brushed softly against my face. In that very moment, I imagined myself on a deserted island as my mind silenced itself from thought, free of any worries and concerns. On my deserted island, I created my own world, and my imagination took me to places I never thought it could go. Using my imagination, I built sand castles as shelter and I caught sand crabs as food. In my world, I was able to express my individuality by being whoever I wanted and doing anything I desired without limitations. My deserted island is similar to Frazier's childhood place in "the woods." From symbolizing character growth to the healing of physical wounds, music plays an integral part in this novel. While many critics will point out that music has little effect on the human psyche, Charles Frazier shows his belief that music does indeed have a profound effect on the human mind throughout Cold Mountain. Throughout the novel, Inman, Ada, Ruby, Stobrod, and many other characters experience music that allows them to keep faith against the odds or even heal their wounds! But Monroe preached that they were misunderstanding the song if they fooled themselves into thinking all creation would someday love them. What it really required was for them to love all creation" (78). Monroe used the hymns of his church as a means to spread his ideas of how people ought to live their lives. This pattern is also apparent with Inman. When he meets Swimmer, a Native American, he learns of a chant that could "kill the soul of an enemy" (20). Inman cannot accept this notion because "he had been taught by sermon and hymn to hold as truth that the soul of man never dies" (20). Charles Frazier believed in the power of hymn to influence what people believed about spirituality and the soul. This parallels the historical usage of hymns in church during the Civil War as well as in today's church as a means to pass down culture. Hymn music also had the ability to strengthen the Church and to solidify the beliefs of the parishioners. There is a large disagreement over the influence of religious music over a person's beliefs. The evangelical song leaders believed that religious music moved people with no faith to a life dedicated to praising God, but people from outside the church described religious music as "cheap and tawdry" (Squire 242). According to the United Evangelical Front religious music was a way to articulate God's plan and extend the influence of religion outside of the church ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frazier Case FRASIER (A) ANALYSIS This case outlines the background of the negotiations between NBC (National Broadcasting Corporation) and Paramount for the extension of renegotiating the rights to the TV show, Frasier. While NBC wanted to pay under $5 million per episode in order to make a profit, Paramount seemed to be demanding $8 million per episode. This was a very big gap considering that there were 24 episodes per season and that Paramount wanted a three year term on the renegotiated contracted. Since Paramount could not negotiate for a price lower than $5 million with other networks, Viacom probably would not agree to a loss making deal unless it felt that Frasier would have a significant impact on other CBS shows (in other words, be a 'tent pole') as well as on CBS' internal power struggle. What is your best estimate of their respective reservation prices ("walk away price")? Be sure and explain your answer. Don't just give a number. The initial offer from Paramount was a 20% increase over what NBC was paying. This translates to roughly about $6 million per episode. However, NBC's initial number was 5% less than what they were paying currently. This translates to roughly about $4.75 million per episode. Later, Paramount came down by $500,000 per episode ($5.5 million per episode). This still represented a sizable difference. Based on these facts, I would put Paramount's reservation price being in the range of $5–$5.25 million per episode. This is because their BATNA is not very strong and the fact that NBC were the industry leaders in terms of license fees, especially for prime–time shows. Additionally, they called NBC to still work on the deal, which gives a strong hint that they were still open to negotiation. On the other hand, NBC's reservation price would be in the range of $5.5–$5.75 million. Though NBC's BATNA is also not very strong, they have other alternatives. And ... The Code of Bushido was followed by the ancient Japanese, which respected the ways of warrior. It was a code that taught the Japanese dedication and respect for their Emperor and their family. The code had required warriors to exhibit a strict sense of honor and self control, maintain a benevolent yet detached attitude towards life, care for the Earth and other people, and be loyal to one's country and family. However, the Emperor had used the Code of Bushido to brainwash and control soldiers. The Emperor used it as a tool to motivate the people to murder and die for the code. According to the Japanese, if you surrendered, you would disappoint your family and country. In World War II when the Japanese were held prisoner in Cowra prison in Australia, many of them changed their names so that their parents assumed they were dead rather than disappointing them. The Code of Bushido made the Japanese treat the Americans and Filipinos in a savage and brutal manner. Moreover, the Japanese's treatment of prisoners affected how Americans saw them. The Americans believed the Japanese were brutal human beings. The Americans saw them as that because during the Bataan Death March, if you stopped marching, the Japanese would kill you with a bayonet or rifle. Then, if you tried to help someone who fell, you would get beaten or stabbed. Also for a sport, Japanese soldiers would fracture sculls with rifle butts. • 38. The Cold Mountain, By Charles Frazier Within Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain, religion is an ever present component to the novel. This is prevalent within Inman, Ada and Monroe, Swimmer, and the mountain town itself. At times, characters will present aspects of religion that do not coincide with the common Christian beliefs within Cold Mountain, such as Monroe's teachings or Swimmer's own religion as opposed to Christianity. Each religious person or reference within the story creates a sense of differentiating views as well as an introduction to multiple perspectives of religion, self, and action. Regarding Inman and his view of Christianity, he has a deep connection to the church. When Monroe arrived at the church, the townspeople were skeptical of his sermons because his view of religion did not pose God as a punishing god, separating his belief from the previous beliefs of the mountain people. Monroe began to give the people of Cold Mountain a new view and perspective of religion, one not included in their presumably primitive Baptist background. Monroe quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson, which follows the belief that nature is a way in which God shows his love for the world. According to Inman's remembrance of one of Monroe's quotes, it goes as follows, "that which shows God in me, fortifies me. That which shows God out of me, makes me a ward and a wen. There is no longer a necessary reason for my being. Already the long shadows of untimely oblivion creep over me, and I shall decrease forever." This quote from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
