Examples Of Intertextuality In A Tv Show
There is another example of TV show also created by Ryan Murphy called 'Scream Queens'. It is a
slasher show consisted with 2 seasons. First one tells a story about sorority Kappa House, that is
forced to accept every girl that wish to become a sister. A series of unexplained murders by Red
Devil become to hunt sorority. Second season took place in a hospital with the same story about
patients and hospital workers being hunt by a Green Devil. Intertextuality play the main role in this
show. One of the most noticeable references is a shower scene from the 'Psycho' (1960). Jamie Lee
Curtis, who plays dean Munsch, has recreated the scene that her mother Janet Leigh played in
Alfred Hitchock's movie 'Psycho'. Notwithstanding, there are references

Gay Marriage Should Be Recognized
"8" is play based on Proposition 8 where a same sex couple filed a lawsuit against the state of
California. The play is a great example of equality. Everyone in the play got to defend what he or
she believed in. The play "8" was written by Dustin Lance Black. It gives the audience a look into
the argument of both sides of same sex marriage. The actors did a great job of getting their points
across about why and why not gay marriage should be recognized. One side argued that gay
marriage is redefining marriage and when raising children, it is better for them to see a woman and
man married not a mother and mother, while the other side argued that gay marriage is not
redefining marriage and that it doesn't matter because they have the right to marry the person they
want to marry whether it be same sex, or race. The actors in the play were very believably. I felt as
if I was witnessing a real case in court. They stated "facts" and most of them had their information
correct to back it up. There were a couple instances where someone began arguing their case and
had nothing to back up what they were speaking about. The play "8" starts out with 2 young boys
talking about Kris and Sandy which is their parents. The boys throughout the whole play weren't
really interested in anything having to do with the play. They were more so concerned about missing
things like soccer practice, and other extra curricular activities that they participated in rather than
actually being involved in

Deadly Friend Psychology
4. Deadly Friend – (1986)
According to IMDB, the only reason this particular Halloween–themed film was made was because
Wes Craven's agent was concerned that if he didn't do it, the now–famous director would be stuck
doing small movies for the rest of his career. (LINK 9)
Paul is the new kid in town and has a robot called "BB". The movie opens on Halloween night when
a young girl named Samantha comes over to Paul's house with a bloody nose. Samantha doesn't
admit it, but Paul and his friends are sure she's being abused by her father.
Weeks later, Paul and Samantha spend some time together and share their first kiss. This results in
Samantha returning home late, causing her outraged father to punch her in the face and push her

1. Halloween – (1978)
Perhaps the most iconic Halloween–themed movies of all time, this film, directed by John
Carpenter, redefined horror as we know it.
At the beginning of the film, it is 1963 and two amorous teenagers are making out on the couch.
They go up to her bedroom to fool around and, afterward, the guy leaves. The young woman, sitting
naked at her vanity and combing her hair, is startled when her little brother bursts into her room
wearing a clown costume. While she screams in confusion and terror, he stabs her repeatedly until
her lifeless body falls to the floor.
Fast–forward to 1978 and it's Halloween in Haddonfield again. Laurie Strode (played brilliantly by
Jamie Lee Curtis in her first feature film role), (LINK 12) is babysitting on Halloween night while
her more outgoing friends try to make party plans. Unbeknownst to them, Michael Myers is all
grown up now and has escaped from the asylum he was sent to for the brutal murder of his

Criteria for Evaluating Media Violence Essay
No Universal Criteria for Evaluating Media Violence
In a famous speech in 1995, Bob Dole, in an effort to gain more conservative support for his
impending Republican Presidential Nomination, unleashed a damning indictment of the movie
industry, seemingly unprovoked and somewhat puzzling. (Lacayo) Dole's speech and especially the
rebuttals to it raise many questions central to the debate over violence in film: is violence
destructive to impressionable viewers, is violence critical to the success of the industry, does
violence have aesthetic value, who decides what is violent, and if something is found to be violent,
should it be banned? By going beyond Dole's speech to carefully examine these questions, it is
found that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking this into account, it is no coincidence that Dole selected The Lion King, Forrest Gump, and
True Lies, all huge money earners, as his films that represent exemplary "family" films. (Lacayo)
Viewed purely as an industry, violent content is vital to the success of current feature films; tobacco
and alcohol companies produce and sell products that are proven to have negative effects, yet are
allowed to continue selling. There is no concrete evidence regarding the effects of violent content in
film, so how could an entire industry be penalized for speculation. However, to view this situation in
terms of money only would seem cold–hearted, so other variables must be taken into account.
One such variable would be the question of whether film violence has actual aesthetic value,
specifically if it has artistic worth. One would be hard pressed to argue that violence is not
entertainment, the high grosses and popularity these films generate disprove that theory at it's core,
at least from the standpoint of the public. Why do people watch scenes of extreme violence if not to
be entertained? Perhaps people watch violence for it's cathartic value, releasing emotion in a healthy
manner by allowing the characters onscreen to act out their personal, as well as the audience's
emotions. Or possibly, people watch for the stimuli they receive by watching such hyper–kinetic
action. Maybe people watch to admire the stunts and special effects

Gender Roles And Power Dynamics
Gender roles and power dynamics have been a topic of great debate in regards to their portrayal in
horror films. Over time, the horror genre's boundaries, as well as ideas of gender roles, have become
less strictly defined and many see this as being observable by looking at films from different points
in time. Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) and John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) are both horror
films which feature gender roles in different ways, although there are also similarities. The use of
gender roles and their representation can be said to evolve over time as society's views of gender
roles also changed. There is a noticeable focus on sexual desires in both films, which relates to the
role of sexuality in people's views of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She uses this newfound confidence and invites Norman to her room, yet Norman declines and wants
to assume the masculinity he never experienced due to being separated from society and its gender
norms. This demonstrates the beginning of a suggested conflict for dominance as they enter the
parlour. The parlour is filled with stuffed birds and Norman explains his love for the passive nature
of still birds and a distaste for taxidermy of wild beasts. This can suggest that he wants to place Miss
Crane in a submissive role and he sees himself as a wild beast which should be active. Marion
attempts to re–establish dominance by implying she would have been more reactionary to being put
down if Norman's mother was berating her; "You know, if anyone ever talked to me the way I heard
–– the way she spoke to you...". This is seen as a challenge to Norman's masculinity; he drops his
smile and talks about how he wishes to curse, defy and abandon his mother. However, he says he
does not focus on this masculine wrath and instead cares and shows compassion to his mother. This
aggressive nature shown by Norman is accompanied by switches in camera angles to include an owl
in the background as he speaks, with wings spread suggesting a predatory nature. This is furthered
by his rage when Marion suggests institutionalisation for his mother, conveying a sense of fear
towards Norman.

Adoption Is A Important For Children
Adoption
Adoption is a practice that is as old as time. It was spoken of in the Bible and has been proven as a
successful way to make sure unwanted children get a home and family. Adoption can be a positive
experience for those who cannot have a child and want to provide a loving environment. There are
some who feel that people should take responsibility for their actions if they have the child. While I
do agree with accountability, sometimes being a parent is realizing when the better option for the
child is to give him or her to a family that could provide a more enriching life.
To begin, there is more than one kind of family, and there is more than one way to have children.
Some parents for many different reasons decide they want to ... Show more content on

When learning about where they are from and their roots it strikes a good feeling and makes them
feel better. Many adoptees raised in families of different ethnic backgrounds find out they would
like to learn about their own heritage.
Also, there are many different statistics about adoption. There are statistics that show the process of
which the children go through before being adopted. An anonymous online writer stated:
More than 60% of children in foster care spend two–five years in the system before being adopted.
Almost 20% spend five or more years in foster care before being adopted. Some never get adopted.
Of the 400,000 children in foster care in the U.S., 114,556 cannot be returned to their families and
are waiting to be adopted. Among these children, males out number females, African American
children are disproportionally represented and over half are six years old or older. One in three
children adopted by parents who are a different race, most adopted children from foster care are
non–white. Majority (73%) of the children's adopted parents are white. Nearly 40% of children
adopted from foster care live in families with three or more adopted and/or birth children, making
their family structures more complex than other adopted children. Both domestic and international
adoptions have similar total costs, typically ranging from $25,000–$50,000 but they both have their
own unique costs. The time it takes a couple to receive a child domestically or

Dysbiosis
Probiotics are a very popular topic nowadays, especially now that we have Jamie Lee Curtis as the
Activia (A Dannon brand of yogurt) spokeswoman touting the benefits of probiotics for bowel
irregularity. The use of probiotics has gained interest and support among those who seek natural
methods or preventing and/or combating chronic illnesses.
Probiotics, literally meaning pro life, is the name given to a group of live beneficial microorganisms
found today in many foods as well as in supplement form. Examples of probiotics include
Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidum bacterium and Bifidus regularis. Our bodies are already
comprised of the beneficial microorganisms found in probiotics but external factors often

Overuse of antibiotics gives rise to a condition known as dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is a condition in
which the micro flora of the intestinal system is out of whack and the correct balance of
microorganisms is compromised.
Dysbiosis is what gives rise to candida overgrowth also known as candidiasis. When beneficial
microorganisms are destroyed the balance between bacteria and yeasts (Candida albicans) becomes
distorted. Candida albicans is typically a beneficial part of the body's intestinal micro flora but
without the proper amount of beneficial bacteria it becomes an opportunistic microorganism
releasing toxins and causing symptoms throughout the body.
Although probiotics do not kill Candida albicans they do help to repopulate the intestinal system
with beneficial microorganisms. By repopulating the intestinal system with these beneficial
microorganisms the population of candida is kept at bay. Today probiotics are found in many foods.
The most well known food that contains probiotics is probably yogurt. Eating plain unsweetened
yogurt may be a good way for many to consume probiotics daily. Unfortunately, if you are battling
candidiasis you are probably following the candida diet and while some can tolerate yogurt on the
diet many cannot. In this case supplements may be

Slasher Movies: Female Victims or Survivors? Essay
Slasher Movies: Female Victims or Survivors?
"[Scary movies are] all the same. Some stupid killer stalking some big–breasted girl who can't act
who's always running up the stairs when she should be running out the front door. It's insulting,"
claims the character Sidney, in the movie Scream (1996).
This stereotype is what many movie fans and critics believe when the topic of slasher films arise.
Slasher films normally include a psychotic killer (either real or supernatural), a number of victims
(often female), and usually the only person alive at the end of the movie is a female. Yet, one has to
question these stereotypes. Are slasher films really that degrading towards women? Feminist critics
tend to focus on females being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The female is often able to outwit the killer and this is how she survives. Sometimes, such as in the
movie Halloween (1978), the female must rely on the luck of a stranger trying to help her. However,
in sequels of the movie, the main character is able to defend herself and conquers her killer. Many
strong female heroines are shown in slasher films.
The theory of the "final girl" is a fascinating concept in horror movies. Carol J. Clover created the
term "final girl" in the book, "Men, Women, and Chainsaws." Clover points out that the "[final girl]
often show[s] more courage and levelheadedness than their cringing male counterparts" (36). Clover
argues from a feminist perspective that the females in these movies survive only because they are
acting as male protagonists would (Wells 18). From a psychoanalytic standpoint, she feels that
women "must be eliminated in horror text because they lack a phallus" (Wells 19). However, Paul
Wells feels this theory is questionable and challenges it:
The monster sometimes has an indeterminate gender, or is, indeed, a woman. Further, when men
and women 'fight back' it is largely in fear of life itself, and not wholly predicated on issues of
sexual anxiety from either gender. Clover's definition of 'the final girl,' therefore, in characters like
Nancy in Nightmare on Elm Street (1985), Jennifer in I Spit on your Grave (1980) and Alice in
Friday the 13th (1980) as a 'phallic' heroine

It is simply assumed that mothers are filled with protection, nurture, love and care, but why are we
so fascinated with threatening mothers who do not fulfil this stereotype and expectation? These
reveries around the 'monstrous mother' are often known of by the horror genre. This theme is so
popular that it has created a sub–horror genre: Maternal Horror. Mothers in maternal horror are so
interesting due to their questioning of the status of motherhood. As this happens, they become the

Women in Contemporary Horror Films
FEMINITY IN CONTEMPORARY HORROR FILM
One might say that horror film– genre has been invented by feminists. Horror films seem to be one
of the only genres that have women as heroines instead of dominated side characters. In horror
genre women are the ones fighting against evil and men are the ones dying trying to help these
heroines. Or perhaps the horror genre uses heroines to differ it self from hero dominant action genre.
Or maybe horror films were created to represent the ultimate horror of the dominant masculine
society: a strong woman who can survive by herself. This essay will analyse genders used in
contemporary horror genre and it will delve in to the difference of masculinity and femininity
presented in present horror films. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reason for that might be purely economical, when the monster stays alive, the sequels can be made.
Also the society's social order can handle the death of male monsters. If the male monster dies
entirely, it would mean that females had won the battle of sexes.
Contemporary horror film's heroines' power and independency keeps on growing when society it
represents gets more liberal. For example in the Scream films (1996, 1997, 2000) female protagonist
was highly independent and equal to challenge male monster. The heroine has grown from victim to
almost masculine fighter. The heroine can be called masculine, but she still has the feminine touch,
that got her in trouble in first place, in her. Even in her final fight she still struggles between strength
and fears. The final girl can not loose her vulnerability, because it would take away the element of
horror from the film. It can also be argued that masculine society can not handle the death of
women. Women give birth so if they died it would be the end of society.
In contemporary horror films the traditional gender qualities have shifted. Female protagonist has
masculine elements in her behavior, like has to act logically to beat the monster. The male monster
on the other hand has feminist features in his behavior (Clover 1999, p. 203). The male monsters
often have some kind of psychological trauma as catalysis on their actions. The male monsters often
look funny and they were masks to cover their

Ed Gein Film Analysis
In 1956, serial killer Ed Gein was arrested in his Wisconsin home. The quiet hermit was found to be
in possession of various items made out of human skin, shrunken heads, even soup bowls that were
made from human skulls. It was determined that he lived alone because of his family's untimely
demise, his father died in the late 40's and his mother died in the 50's. After their deaths, Gein went
insane and turned into a human butcher. Even though, he was only guilty of murdering two women,
he also confessed to be a serial grave robber that would dig up and carve up the bodies he exhumed.
Gein even went as far making a human skin costume and would wear it, posing as the opposite sex.
Living in the Wisconsin at the time, author Robert Bloch started writing a novel, about an
overweight slob of a motel owner who would get into drunken stupors and victimize those who
occupied his hotel. Bloch claimed that he did not know about Gein, when writing this character, but

Halloween is a typical 1970s horror film, I think this because the font in the titles looks dated and
the images are grainy, unlike the the highly polished images and high tech devises used in films

The pumpkin in the beginning titles has been used to represent Halloween. The pumpkin flickers to

face of the killer is not shown, hidden in cinematographic way or hidden by mask. The mystery here
is very distinctive part. The impression in most movies is that no one can kill him. Almost as he is
already dead in some way. These two main characters are very noticeable when we watch horrors
and most specifically slashers. Both of them have issues communicating with the others. Both the
Final Girl and the killer are misunderstood from the other characters. We can see that the Final Girl
is very different and shy in most cases. She doesn't do and experience things her friends do. On the
other hand the killer is in the same situation. Because of his separations from the others, he is not
able to live 'normally' his life. With that different attitude we can easily relate both characters with
their common alienation. The link between them is manifested even with their sexuality. Both
characters are sexually repressed. The killer is the most important part for making slashers. Now lets

most cases offscreen. The camera work in these movies is very interesting, because it is presenting

Importance Of Ethical Issues In Marketing
1. Why do you think marketing is an area that is involved with so many ethical issues? Provide
atleast 2 reasons to support your answer.
Marketing is an area that affects the companies greatly. Marketing can change how people see a
brand, it can create a positive or negative perspective of the brand that is why marketers need to be
careful how they launch new advertisements and promotions. Many thinks that marketing has a big
deal with ethical issues which most of the companies try to get rid of these problems because they
would like to be more transparent and more appealing to the customers, but this is not the case for
all the companies because as we can see when we check the internet we get bombarded with a lot of
advertisements that we do not even have an interest on them. However, many researchers found
ethical issues with marketing, one area that researches found the greatest problem is when marketers
survey people to find if they are interested with the brand or their products. Akaah and colleagues
state on their research, "In an effort to meet the client's need for accurate and reliable data, a
researcher might be less than candid with respondents about the intent of a research study in order to
avoid biasing their responses."
Furthermore, I believe that marketing is an area involved in many ethical issues because marketers
must satisfy customers, and they also need to find a way to approach the people that they are
surveying with care if they want to get the right

Does the Way We Act Affect How We Think or the Other Way...
There are billions of people on this earth with each person connected by the interconnected thread of

the obedience that inevitably follows. Researchers enrolled the use of an actor to pretend to be
shocked meanwhile the volunteer subject's role was to ask these "students" a question and when, if
the question was wrong, would flip a switch and volts of electricity would commence. The switches
varied from "slight shock" to "moderate shock" to "danger: severe shock" to an ominous "XXX".
The experimenter would sit and look upon the volunteer and make sure they followed through.
Some volunteers refused to go through with the experiment. However, many stayed through the
experiment with the experimenter telling them over and over that they must continue to shock the
'student'. Although this displayed evidence for obedience of individuals it also shows that
individuals are able to follow through with small actions such as the "slight shock" or "moderate
shock" and work their way up towards the larger actions of "danger: severe shock" to "XXX". In
addition, this role–play of teacher and student can affect how a person is able to think based on this
action. An incredibly fascinating exemplar of such role–play is the Stanford Prison experiment
conducted by psychologist Philip Zimbardo in 1971. Researches employed the use of volunteers and
split some into the role of guards

Unfortunately, Scream Queens season 2 is not making the cut this year. After a successful season 1,
the show looks forward to a better and louder sequel. With the story set three years after the Red
Devil murders, maybe the color of hospital green did not make an interesting motif. When it comes
to the numbers, Scream Queens season 2 is not fairing quite well with just 3 episodes in. Are the
viewers not screaming enough? Or are they fed up with all the hot and baby pink hues? What about
the big names like Lea Michele, Emma Roberts, John Stamos, Jamie Lee Curtis, Taylor Lautner and
Kirstie Alley? It seems the cast are not enough to rake in the numbers. The episode premiere of
Scream Queens only garners a little over 2 million views, cites UnrealityTV. That season debut is
one of the lowest ratings this year. The second episode rakes in 1.70 million views alone. And it
looks like Fox is up to their necks with this one. The show is teetering on a dangerous scale for just
the first few episodes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Women In Horror Film
Women are often portrayed as the victim and are stereotypically viewed as the weaker sex in horror
films. We often see them play a damsel in distress role and are reliant on the male lead characters in
the film. Despite this, modern day horror films have taken a turn and we do see a lot less of these
generic characteristics in women in horror films that are made now. However it is still apparent
women are shown to be objects or sexual desire in horror films are displayed to attract the attention
of male characters. This complies with Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory and that she believed the
camera was positioned so the male viewer was the "bearer of the look" towards the woman on
screen. Psycho, The Birds and Halloween are the films I've decided ... Show more content on

These films follow the generic conventions of horror films and in particular the stereotypes
surrounding the portrayal of women. Doing this research now in 2016 allowed me to have the
benefit of hindsight and I can see how far horror films these days have come. All three films portray
women in some sort of danger and as the victims. Despite this we can also see the characteristics
that also show women to be strong and powerful. Despite majorly portraying women in a negative
light, Psycho, allows us to see that women can be independent, but is foreshadowed that Marion had
to steal to do this. The Birds came after Psycho and didn't portray women as weak but more as
independent. Despite this, the lead character, Melanie, did what she was doing because of a man,
displaying women to want to impress men. Something I noticed whilst conducting my research is
how, despite sometimes showing women in a positive light, the directors still had to degrade women
in some sort of way, there is no balance between the danger men face compared to the amount
women are shown to. In Halloween, despite the fact the Laurie survives, this is after the death of the
other two female leads, which came because of their sexual

Communication was arduous due to the inability to understand different languages. However, many

Several different aspects of modern life have been mythicized due to the over saturation of images.
One of these is the dangers of the world. While violence is prominent, news sources focus on violent
happenings in order to raise profits and ratings, thus newspapers are not opposed to publishing such
images. The second exaggeration is that happiness is synonymous with wealth. Advertisements that
depict the "good life" also depict BMWs, boats, gargantuan houses, and vacations. Also, it is
claimed that ultimate happiness is available at the swipe of a credit card. These images make it seem
like something is missing from an individual's life. Often those that are in photographs similar to
these give off a feeling of felicity, even some products reflect the supposed happiness that one is
supposed to feel such as; Joy dishwashing detergent and Happiness perfume. Additionally, all
businesses are depicted to be concerned about the public's welfare. Few news stories since the

John Carpenter’s Halloween
John Carpenter's Halloween was released in the fall of 1978; little did he know, his independent film
would change the face of slasher films as we know it. This film was responsible for ushering in what
we recognize today as modern horror. With a budget of just over $300,000, Halloween was shot in
20 days. It went on to become the highest grossing independent film of all time bringing in over $60
million until 1990; however, this film was not an instant success (Halloween UnMasked, 1999).
Halloween also brandished a newer type of hero – a heroine. Jamie Lee Curtis has become known as
the Scream Queen as a result of this film where she paved the way for other heroines in the slasher
genre. In its infant stages, Halloween was simply a concept – and that concept was about a
babysitter who is stalked by the boogeyman. John Carpenter made the comment "We are all afraid
of the same things... so that makes a movie that deals in our fears, universal." Irwin Yablans
(executive producer to Halloween) came up with the title for the film and set the stage for the
babysitter, the boogeyman, and the darkest holiday of the year. John Carpenter (director / co–writer /
music composer) and Debra Hill (script supervisor) went to Moustapha Akkad and requested the
funds to create this film. Moustapha had not previously entered into the horror genre prior to this
venture. When John pitched the idea to him, he was intrigued and pulled in with the mention of the
"babysitter" so he agreed to finance

Children 's Literature Books : Children Of Different...
For the purposes of this paper, I will analyze and discuss seven different children's literature books
that depict people of different cultures and identities. I chose these books because these books
challenge children's preconceived notions about certain groups and help them change those. These
books encourage children to not only understand the diversity in the classroom but to appreciate and
accept them too and apply this mindset in the classroom and their community as well. In an
inclusive classroom, there will be students from different backgrounds, disabilities, socioeconomic
statuses and as well as English Language Learners. The books I chose were either chapter novels or
picture books. The topics discussed in these books include poverty, students with disabilities,
ethnicity, and immigration, and gender and challenging their stereotypes. These books will be great
in an inclusive classroom and have great teaching moments for students with their activities. The
first topic we will be discussing is poverty. Poverty is a very serious topic today and many students
are not aware that it could be in their own classroom. Both of these books talk about poverty and
how we do not realize it could be right in front of us. The first book is "Maddi's Fridge" which is
written by Lois Brandt and illustrated by Vin Vogel. This book starts off by introducing Maddi and
Sofia, who are best friends and how one day, Sofia races to Maddi's house and finds out that

Why Women Still Can T Have It All Analysis
Today's society
Women are powerful, as women, we can accomplish anything. Women can become stars,
officeholders and other powerful positions in society. Ambition is a word that means you have a
strong desire to achieve something, but today supposedly it has gotten a nasty streak on it. All three
of these essays focus on women and how they have powerful roles in life; their jobs are high in pay.
These powerful women are trying to say what is on their mind, but people instead disfavor them
because of their words. People are shaming them because they have high–powered jobs that they
worked tirelessly to earn that job and, consequently, decided to leave instead of staying there.
Equality for all is feminism, which these articles are for that, showing how women should
accomplish what they want.
These articles talk about women in important roles in life. In the first article, "Why Women Still
Can't Have It All", Anne–Marie Slaughter, left her government job in January 2011. She had a rude
awakening and realized it was time for her to get out. People were criticizing that she was in a high

Julianne Moore, Melinda Gates, Gwyneth Palthrow, Jamie Lee Curtis, Anna Wintour and Reese

term ambition shows up in this article, "But the issue of ambition and the way it is used to defame

Essay On Hotel Del Coronado
Hotel del Coronado, San Diego, CA.
If you had the chance to visit San Diego, California you might consider staying at the Hotel del
Coronado. This popular beachfront hotel was once featured in the movie "Some Like It Hot"
starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. It is possible that this hotel inspired writer
L. Frank Baum to come up with Emerald City in "The Wizard of Oz". The hotel isn't green but it
slightly resembles Emerald City. The hotel was built in the Victorian age in 1888 and is considered
to be a luxury beachside resort hotel on Coronado Island just a ten–minute drive from downtown
San Diego. Oh, yes there is one more interesting thing about this hotel; it comes with a resident

Human Development : Middle Adulthood
Human Development Reflection: Middle Adulthood Middle adulthood, or mid–life, is usually
defined as ages 40 through 65. Experience Human Development authors Papalia and Martorell
(2015) explain that during this phase, for the first time in life, development begins to deteriorate.
Mid–life adults start to lose height due to shrinkage of the discs in the spinal column and their bones
become more fragile. Skin becomes less elastic, hair may gray and thin due to declining melanin
and hormone levels, and the senses begin to dull. Health concerns such as hypertension,
cardiovascular disease, and diabetes become more common as well, even in previously healthy
people. In addition, sexual functioning tends to change as hormone levels in both men ... Show more

Occasionally this turning point can escalate into what has been termed a mid–life crisis. However,
while some may experience turmoil during this period, others may feel at the peak of their abilities,
while most fall somewhere in between the two extremes (Papalia & Martorell, 2015). Erik Erikson
's psychosocial stages continue into middle adulthood with the crisis of generativity versus
stagnation, defined as finding meaning in one 's life and committing to leaving a lasting legacy for
future generations, versus becoming self–centered and stagnant. Socially healthy adults in this phase
of life have developed their identities and the capacity for intimacy and now move on to mentoring
younger generations as they face their life stages crisis. Many express this through parenting,
grandparenting, teaching, and mentorship of younger generations. If mid–life adults are unable to
find a positive outlet for their own generativity, they may run the risk of becoming disconnected
from the community around them as they age (Papalia & Martorell, 2015). Swiss psychologist Carl
Jung suggested that mid–life was a time for "the emergence of the true self through balancing or
integrating conflicting parts of the personality, including those parts that previously have been
neglected," known as individuation (as cited in Papalia & Martorell, 2015, p.471). During early

The Living Dead
The 1970s represented a truly diverse time in the history of horror cinema. This was a reflection,
perhaps, of how life was growing more complex in the 1970s, with competing problems pulling
audiences towards different fears. Some horror films in the 1970s were revisionary, based on the
fresh principles of a freer, more personal cinema. Other horrors were merely old resurrections and
variations of monsters who had appeared on the silver screen, in one form or another, since the
1930s and 1940s. Nevertheless, following the path of Night of the Living Dead, most low–budget
horror films of the early 1970s depicted the raw social and sexual conflicts. For example, films such

Throughout the film, there are various references to relating to the Vietnam–era. For example, early

were born with and feel uncomfortable to show it. They believe they are ugliest people in the world
and they feel like that whatever the people say is the truth. They believe that they have no other
escape but to go in for cosmetic surgery. An enormous amount of men and woman go in for
cosmetic surgery to make them look younger or fix a part of their face that they are unsatisfied with
or they want to reshape something that to them is a disorder. They go into surgery without knowing
the consequences they are going in for and they face high chances of never seeing their original face
never again. Certain celebrity and model's career have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All that enormous amount of money she spent on her surgeries, could have gone towards the poor
ad to people that need that help or even give that money to the people that need the face surgeries
just to live. The process of going in for cosmetic surgery is tiresome and expensive. If you just want
to go in for a lip injection, the total will be around $499 and if you want a face–lift, it would range
from $4000–$7000. It is an incredulously amount of money that person will be paying for plastic
surgery and they do not even know if the surgery will be successful. All that money they will spend
for the surgery can be used for something even better other than plastic surgery. A counterargument
from healthy beauty states, "cosmetic surgery won't change your life. It won't solve personal
problems or make you look like someone else. But it may give you greater self confidence and add
to your sense of well–being". Yes, to some people cosmetic surgery can give them confidence but to
others, it will leave them unsatisfied and wanting even more surgery until their face is completely
different and barely even recognize themselves. Other people have had some successful surgeries
and look even better than before but to others, have had unsuccessful surgeries and they try to go
back to fix it and it just becomes worse and at the end, the face that you always wanted, became the
nightmare that you never wanted to have in the first placee. Cosmetic surgery is

Crimson Peak Essay
When it comes to dark and dreary movies, very few directors have the capability to outmaneuver the
sheer gloominess of Tim Burton. But, as of late, Guillermo del Toro has constructed and established
a cheerless résumé that certainly puts him in the conversation of being the new, modern director of
darkness.
In Guillermo del Toro's (Pacific Rim, Hellboy) latest concoction, Crimson Peak, Mia Wasikowska
stars as Edith Cushing – an aspiring young fiction writer that discovers it's difficult to be taken
seriously in the field (since the film is set during the turn of the 20th century). Edith is also the
proud daughter of a wealthy, high–standing businessman, Carter Cushing (Jim Beaver).
In the meantime, a charming gentleman, Sir Thomas Sharp ... Show more content on

The couple marries and moves abroad to the Sharp estate, dubbed Crimson Peak. However, Edith
continuously experiences ghosts around the manner, peaking her curiosity – which ultimately
reveals a slew of family secrets of the twisted variety.
Typically, it's the acting, directing, or story that dominates the conversation when it comes to films –
although Crimson Peak is one of those out of the ordinary productions that thrives due to one
horribly under–appreciated category: Costumes. It takes only moments to be caught off guard by the
wonderful attired brandished by these characters, especially the extravagant looking gowns
(designed by Kate Hawley) worn by Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain throughout this film.
To be honest, costumes are hardly a sexy conversational piece – but part of the reason these
characters are so delightful to observe is their visual appeal. As stated, Wasikowska looks radiant
throughout – even when she's borderline defeated and at her worst. On top of that, she gives a
performance that is reminiscent of Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween or Sissy Spacek in Carrie.
Perhaps not as memorable, though her female resilient speaks

Examples Of Intertextuality In A Tv Show

  • 1. Examples Of Intertextuality In A Tv Show There is another example of TV show also created by Ryan Murphy called 'Scream Queens'. It is a slasher show consisted with 2 seasons. First one tells a story about sorority Kappa House, that is forced to accept every girl that wish to become a sister. A series of unexplained murders by Red Devil become to hunt sorority. Second season took place in a hospital with the same story about patients and hospital workers being hunt by a Green Devil. Intertextuality play the main role in this show. One of the most noticeable references is a shower scene from the 'Psycho' (1960). Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays dean Munsch, has recreated the scene that her mother Janet Leigh played in Alfred Hitchock's movie 'Psycho'. Notwithstanding, there are references ... • 2. Gay Marriage Should Be Recognized "8" is play based on Proposition 8 where a same sex couple filed a lawsuit against the state of California. The play is a great example of equality. Everyone in the play got to defend what he or she believed in. The play "8" was written by Dustin Lance Black. It gives the audience a look into the argument of both sides of same sex marriage. The actors did a great job of getting their points across about why and why not gay marriage should be recognized. One side argued that gay marriage is redefining marriage and when raising children, it is better for them to see a woman and man married not a mother and mother, while the other side argued that gay marriage is not redefining marriage and that it doesn't matter because they have the right to marry the person they want to marry whether it be same sex, or race. The actors in the play were very believably. I felt as if I was witnessing a real case in court. They stated "facts" and most of them had their information correct to back it up. There were a couple instances where someone began arguing their case and had nothing to back up what they were speaking about. The play "8" starts out with 2 young boys talking about Kris and Sandy which is their parents. The boys throughout the whole play weren't really interested in anything having to do with the play. They were more so concerned about missing things like soccer practice, and other extra curricular activities that they participated in rather than actually being involved in ... Deadly Friend – (1986) According to IMDB, the only reason this particular Halloween–themed film was made was because Wes Craven's agent was concerned that if he didn't do it, the now–famous director would be stuck doing small movies for the rest of his career. (LINK 9) Paul is the new kid in town and has a robot called "BB". The movie opens on Halloween night when a young girl named Samantha comes over to Paul's house with a bloody nose. Samantha doesn't admit it, but Paul and his friends are sure she's being abused by her father. Weeks later, Paul and Samantha spend some time together and share their first kiss. Halloween – (1978) Perhaps the most iconic Halloween–themed movies of all time, this film, directed by John Carpenter, redefined horror as we know it. At the beginning of the film, it is 1963 and two amorous teenagers are making out on the couch. They go up to her bedroom to fool around and, afterward, the guy leaves. The young woman, sitting naked at her vanity and combing her hair, is startled when her little brother bursts into her room wearing a clown costume. While she screams in confusion and terror, he stabs her repeatedly until her lifeless body falls to the floor. Fast–forward to 1978 and it's Halloween in Haddonfield again. Laurie Strode (played brilliantly by Jamie Lee Curtis in her first feature film role), (LINK 12) is babysitting on Halloween night while her more outgoing friends try to make party plans. • 4. Criteria for Evaluating Media Violence Essay No Universal Criteria for Evaluating Media Violence In a famous speech in 1995, Bob Dole, in an effort to gain more conservative support for his impending Republican Presidential Nomination, unleashed a damning indictment of the movie industry, seemingly unprovoked and somewhat puzzling. (Lacayo) Dole's speech and especially the rebuttals to it raise many questions central to the debate over violence in film: is violence destructive to impressionable viewers, is violence critical to the success of the industry, does violence have aesthetic value, who decides what is violent, and if something is found to be violent, should it be banned? By going beyond Dole's speech to carefully examine these questions, it is found that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taking this into account, it is no coincidence that Dole selected The Lion King, Forrest Gump, and True Lies, all huge money earners, as his films that represent exemplary "family" films. (Lacayo) Viewed purely as an industry, violent content is vital to the success of current feature films; tobacco and alcohol companies produce and sell products that are proven to have negative effects, yet are allowed to continue selling. There is no concrete evidence regarding the effects of violent content in film, so how could an entire industry be penalized for speculation. However, to view this situation in terms of money only would seem cold–hearted, so other variables must be taken into account. One such variable would be the question of whether film violence has actual aesthetic value, specifically if it has artistic worth. One would be hard pressed to argue that violence is not entertainment, the high grosses and popularity these films generate disprove that theory at it's core, at least from the standpoint of the public. Why do people watch scenes of extreme violence if not to be entertained? Perhaps people watch violence for it's cathartic value, releasing emotion in a healthy manner by allowing the characters onscreen to act out their personal, as well as the audience's emotions. Or possibly, people watch for the stimuli they receive by watching such hyper–kinetic action. Maybe people watch to admire the stunts and special effects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gender Roles And Power Dynamics Gender roles and power dynamics have been a topic of great debate in regards to their portrayal in horror films. Over time, the horror genre's boundaries, as well as ideas of gender roles, have become less strictly defined and many see this as being observable by looking at films from different points in time. Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) and John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) are both horror films which feature gender roles in different ways, although there are also similarities. The use of gender roles and their representation can be said to evolve over time as society's views of gender roles also changed. There is a noticeable focus on sexual desires in both films, which relates to the role of sexuality in people's views of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She uses this newfound confidence and invites Norman to her room, yet Norman declines and wants to assume the masculinity he never experienced due to being separated from society and its gender norms. This demonstrates the beginning of a suggested conflict for dominance as they enter the parlour. The parlour is filled with stuffed birds and Norman explains his love for the passive nature of still birds and a distaste for taxidermy of wild beasts. This can suggest that he wants to place Miss Crane in a submissive role and he sees himself as a wild beast which should be active. Marion attempts to re–establish dominance by implying she would have been more reactionary to being put down if Norman's mother was berating her; "You know, if anyone ever talked to me the way I heard –– the way she spoke to you...". This is seen as a challenge to Norman's masculinity; he drops his smile and talks about how he wishes to curse, defy and abandon his mother. However, he says he does not focus on this masculine wrath and instead cares and shows compassion to his mother. This aggressive nature shown by Norman is accompanied by switches in camera angles to include an owl in the background as he speaks, with wings spread suggesting a predatory nature. This is furthered by his rage when Marion suggests institutionalisation for his mother, conveying a sense of fear towards Norman. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Adoption Is A Important For Children Adoption Adoption is a practice that is as old as time. It was spoken of in the Bible and has been proven as a successful way to make sure unwanted children get a home and family. Adoption can be a positive experience for those who cannot have a child and want to provide a loving environment. There are some who feel that people should take responsibility for their actions if they have the child. While I do agree with accountability, sometimes being a parent is realizing when the better option for the child is to give him or her to a family that could provide a more enriching life. There are statistics that show the process of which the children go through before being adopted. An anonymous online writer stated: More than 60% of children in foster care spend two–five years in the system before being adopted. Almost 20% spend five or more years in foster care before being adopted. Some never get adopted. Of the 400,000 children in foster care in the U.S., 114,556 cannot be returned to their families and are waiting to be adopted. Among these children, males out number females, African American children are disproportionally represented and over half are six years old or older. One in three children adopted by parents who are a different race, most adopted children from foster care are non–white. Majority (73%) of the children's adopted parents are white. Nearly 40% of children adopted from foster care live in families with three or more adopted and/or birth children, making their family structures more complex than other adopted children. Dysbiosis is what gives rise to candida overgrowth also known as candidiasis. When beneficial microorganisms are destroyed the balance between bacteria and yeasts (Candida albicans) becomes distorted. Candida albicans is typically a beneficial part of the body's intestinal micro flora but without the proper amount of beneficial bacteria it becomes an opportunistic microorganism releasing toxins and causing symptoms throughout the body. Although probiotics do not kill Candida albicans they do help to repopulate the intestinal system with beneficial microorganisms. By repopulating the intestinal system with these beneficial microorganisms the population of candida is kept at bay. Today probiotics are found in many foods. The most well known food that contains probiotics is probably yogurt. Eating plain unsweetened yogurt may be a good way for many to consume probiotics daily. Unfortunately, if you are battling candidiasis you are probably following the candida diet and while some can tolerate yogurt on the diet many cannot. In this case supplements may be ... • 8. Slasher Movies: Female Victims or Survivors? Essay Slasher Movies: Female Victims or Survivors? "[Scary movies are] all the same. Some stupid killer stalking some big–breasted girl who can't act who's always running up the stairs when she should be running out the front door. It's insulting," claims the character Sidney, in the movie Scream (1996). This stereotype is what many movie fans and critics believe when the topic of slasher films arise. Slasher films normally include a psychotic killer (either real or supernatural), a number of victims (often female), and usually the only person alive at the end of the movie is a female. Yet, one has to question these stereotypes. Are slasher films really that degrading towards women? Feminist critics tend to focus on females being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The female is often able to outwit the killer and this is how she survives. Sometimes, such as in the movie Halloween (1978), the female must rely on the luck of a stranger trying to help her. However, in sequels of the movie, the main character is able to defend herself and conquers her killer. Many strong female heroines are shown in slasher films. The theory of the "final girl" is a fascinating concept in horror movies. Carol J. Clover created the term "final girl" in the book, "Men, Women, and Chainsaws." Clover points out that the "[final girl] often show[s] more courage and levelheadedness than their cringing male counterparts" (36). Clover argues from a feminist perspective that the females in these movies survive only because they are acting as male protagonists would (Wells 18). From a psychoanalytic standpoint, she feels that women "must be eliminated in horror text because they lack a phallus" (Wells 19). However, Paul Wells feels this theory is questionable and challenges it: The monster sometimes has an indeterminate gender, or is, indeed, a woman. Further, when men and women 'fight back' it is largely in fear of life itself, and not wholly predicated on issues of sexual anxiety from either gender. Clover's definition of 'the final girl,' therefore, in characters like Nancy in Nightmare on Elm Street (1985), Jennifer in I Spit on your Grave (1980) and Alice in Friday the 13th (1980) as a 'phallic' heroine ... Horror films seem to be one of the only genres that have women as heroines instead of dominated side characters. In horror genre women are the ones fighting against evil and men are the ones dying trying to help these heroines. Or perhaps the horror genre uses heroines to differ it self from hero dominant action genre. Or maybe horror films were created to represent the ultimate horror of the dominant masculine society: a strong woman who can survive by herself. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reason for that might be purely economical, when the monster stays alive, the sequels can be made. Also the society's social order can handle the death of male monsters. If the male monster dies entirely, it would mean that females had won the battle of sexes. Contemporary horror film's heroines' power and independency keeps on growing when society it represents gets more liberal. For example in the Scream films (1996, 1997, 2000) female protagonist was highly independent and equal to challenge male monster. The heroine has grown from victim to almost masculine fighter. The heroine can be called masculine, but she still has the feminine touch, that got her in trouble in first place, in her. Even in her final fight she still struggles between strength and fears. The final girl can not loose her vulnerability, because it would take away the element of horror from the film. It can also be argued that masculine society can not handle the death of women. Women give birth so if they died it would be the end of society. In contemporary horror films the traditional gender qualities have shifted. Female protagonist has masculine elements in her behavior, like has to act logically to beat the monster. The male monster on the other hand has feminist features in his behavior (Clover 1999, p. 203). The male monsters often have some kind of psychological trauma as catalysis on their actions. Marketing is an area that affects the companies greatly. Marketing can change how people see a brand, it can create a positive or negative perspective of the brand that is why marketers need to be careful how they launch new advertisements and promotions. Many thinks that marketing has a big deal with ethical issues which most of the companies try to get rid of these problems because they would like to be more transparent and more appealing to the customers, but this is not the case for all the companies because as we can see when we check the internet we get bombarded with a lot of advertisements that we do not even have an interest on them. However, many researchers found ethical issues with marketing, one area that researches found the greatest problem is when marketers survey people to find if they are interested with the brand or their products. Akaah and colleagues state on their research, "In an effort to meet the client's need for accurate and reliable data, a researcher might be less than candid with respondents about the intent of a research study in order to avoid biasing their responses." • 28. John Carpenter’s Halloween John Carpenter's Halloween was released in the fall of 1978; little did he know, his independent film would change the face of slasher films as we know it. This film was responsible for ushering in what we recognize today as modern horror. With a budget of just over $300,000, Halloween was shot in 20 days. It went on to become the highest grossing independent film of all time bringing in over $60 million until 1990; however, this film was not an instant success (Halloween UnMasked, 1999). Halloween also brandished a newer type of hero – a heroine. Jamie Lee Curtis has become known as the Scream Queen as a result of this film where she paved the way for other heroines in the slasher genre. In its infant stages, Halloween was simply a concept – and that concept was about a babysitter who is stalked by the boogeyman. John Carpenter made the comment "We are all afraid of the same things... so that makes a movie that deals in our fears, universal." Irwin Yablans (executive producer to Halloween) came up with the title for the film and set the stage for the babysitter, the boogeyman, and the darkest holiday of the year. John Carpenter (director / co–writer / music composer) and Debra Hill (script supervisor) went to Moustapha Akkad and requested the funds to create this film. Moustapha had not previously entered into the horror genre prior to this venture. When John pitched the idea to him, he was intrigued and pulled in with the mention of the "babysitter" so he agreed to finance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Children 's Literature Books : Children Of Different... For the purposes of this paper, I will analyze and discuss seven different children's literature books that depict people of different cultures and identities. I chose these books because these books challenge children's preconceived notions about certain groups and help them change those. These books encourage children to not only understand the diversity in the classroom but to appreciate and accept them too and apply this mindset in the classroom and their community as well. In an inclusive classroom, there will be students from different backgrounds, disabilities, socioeconomic statuses and as well as English Language Learners. The books I chose were either chapter novels or picture books. The topics discussed in these books include poverty, students with disabilities, ethnicity, and immigration, and gender and challenging their stereotypes. These books will be great in an inclusive classroom and have great teaching moments for students with their activities. The first topic we will be discussing is poverty. Poverty is a very serious topic today and many students are not aware that it could be in their own classroom. Both of these books talk about poverty and how we do not realize it could be right in front of us. The first book is "Maddi's Fridge" which is written by Lois Brandt and illustrated by Vin Vogel. This book starts off by introducing Maddi and Sofia, who are best friends and how one day, Sofia races to Maddi's house and finds out that Maddi's fridge only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Why Women Still Can T Have It All Analysis Today's society Women are powerful, as women, we can accomplish anything. Women can become stars, officeholders and other powerful positions in society. Ambition is a word that means you have a strong desire to achieve something, but today supposedly it has gotten a nasty streak on it. All three of these essays focus on women and how they have powerful roles in life; their jobs are high in pay. These powerful women are trying to say what is on their mind, but people instead disfavor them because of their words. People are shaming them because they have high–powered jobs that they worked tirelessly to earn that job and, consequently, decided to leave instead of staying there. Equality for all is feminism, which these articles are for that, showing how women should accomplish what they want. These articles talk about women in important roles in life. In the first article, "Why Women Still Can't Have It All", Anne–Marie Slaughter, left her government job in January 2011. She had a rude awakening and realized it was time for her to get out. This popular beachfront hotel was once featured in the movie "Some Like It Hot" starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. It is possible that this hotel inspired writer L. Frank Baum to come up with Emerald City in "The Wizard of Oz". The hotel isn't green but it slightly resembles Emerald City. The hotel was built in the Victorian age in 1888 and is considered to be a luxury beachside resort hotel on Coronado Island just a ten–minute drive from downtown San Diego. • 32. Human Development : Middle Adulthood Human Development Reflection: Middle Adulthood Middle adulthood, or mid–life, is usually defined as ages 40 through 65. Experience Human Development authors Papalia and Martorell (2015) explain that during this phase, for the first time in life, development begins to deteriorate. Mid–life adults start to lose height due to shrinkage of the discs in the spinal column and their bones become more fragile. Skin becomes less elastic, hair may gray and thin due to declining melanin and hormone levels, and the senses begin to dull. Health concerns such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes become more common as well, even in previously healthy people. In addition, sexual functioning tends to change as hormone levels in both men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Occasionally this turning point can escalate into what has been termed a mid–life crisis. However, while some may experience turmoil during this period, others may feel at the peak of their abilities, while most fall somewhere in between the two extremes (Papalia & Martorell, 2015). Erik Erikson 's psychosocial stages continue into middle adulthood with the crisis of generativity versus stagnation, defined as finding meaning in one 's life and committing to leaving a lasting legacy for future generations, versus becoming self–centered and stagnant. Socially healthy adults in this phase of life have developed their identities and the capacity for intimacy and now move on to mentoring younger generations as they face their life stages crisis. Many express this through parenting, grandparenting, teaching, and mentorship of younger generations. If mid–life adults are unable to find a positive outlet for their own generativity, they may run the risk of becoming disconnected from the community around them as they age (Papalia & Martorell, 2015). Swiss psychologist Carl Jung suggested that mid–life was a time for "the emergence of the true self through balancing or integrating conflicting parts of the personality, including those parts that previously have been neglected," known as individuation (as cited in Papalia & Martorell, 2015, p.471). • 34. The Living Dead The 1970s represented a truly diverse time in the history of horror cinema. This was a reflection, perhaps, of how life was growing more complex in the 1970s, with competing problems pulling audiences towards different fears. Some horror films in the 1970s were revisionary, based on the fresh principles of a freer, more personal cinema. Other horrors were merely old resurrections and variations of monsters who had appeared on the silver screen, in one form or another, since the 1930s and 1940s. Nevertheless, following the path of Night of the Living Dead, most low–budget horror films of the early 1970s depicted the raw social and sexual conflicts. The Exorcist was set in Washington DC and released at the height of the Nixon administration's engagement in the Watergate scandal. Throughout the film, there are various references to relating to the Vietnam–era. For example, early in the film, we see Chris MacNeil (mother of Regan MacNeil) on the set of a campus anti–war protest. Meanwhile, we also see old Father Martin has been living in Woodstock, New York, presumably trying to expel the evil spirits of its countercultural demons. The film also represented the tense political anxieties of the 1970s. The climax, with the girl saved but the priests dead, strongly suggested that the battle between good and evil as the film defined it had ended in an exhausting and uneasy draw. This example can be a reference to the United States' stalemate and withdraw from the Vietnam War in the 1970s. It was a very exhausting war for American troops and uneasy success. Stakeholders will generally detect duplicity in CSR motives; intrinsic or genuine motives as well as extrinsic profit–related motives; however, stakeholders will be tolerant of clear extrinsic motives, if the CSR initiatives are rooted in intrinsic values. This leads to the perceived "win–win" scenario, and is one of the driving factors behind company CSR initiatives, as they realize the value of helping society while still being able to focus on the impact to the bottom line (Tonello, 2011). In addition, if campaigns are not communicated specifically around the brands it produces, then a "halo effect" for the entire industry could be the end result, of a poorly executed communication strategy (Marquis et al., 2011) Therefore, it is important for Dannon to construct a carefully balanced communication strategy, which considers the perception of its stakeholders in the marketplace, while also ensuring to highlight the specific impact of its CSR initiatives within the communities it operates. But, as of late, Guillermo del Toro has constructed and established a cheerless résumé that certainly puts him in the conversation of being the new, modern director of darkness. In Guillermo del Toro's (Pacific Rim, Hellboy) latest concoction, Crimson Peak, Mia Wasikowska stars as Edith Cushing – an aspiring young fiction writer that discovers it's difficult to be taken seriously in the field (since the film is set during the turn of the 20th century).
