Editor's Notes

  1. Began with 5 founders and 350 of their business contacts. By the end of its first year, it was 81,000 members strong. *updated 6/2015
  2. Business promotion: connecting with clients and partners. Branding=highlighting your expertise. Seeking a job: use keywords to attract with recruiters, connect with others in the profession to develop connections and leads
  3. Introductions: a way to connect to someone who is connected to one of your connections. By requesting an intro thru someone you already know, that person can try to reach out on your behalf. A more personal way to connect, as opposed to sending a message, email, or resume.
  4. InMail is useful because it less likely to confused with spam. Go to profile>Privacy & settings>Communications>Select what type of messages you are willing to receive
  5. LinkedIn Today: Headlines, popular articles shared by contacts on LinkedIn/Twitter. Pulse is an award-winning application that makes it easy to consume news on mobile phones and tablets. Pulse has been named to the Apple's App Store Hall of Fame, chosen as an Android Editor's Choice app, selected as one of TIME's top 50 iPhone apps of 2011, and honored with the Apple Design Award. The company was recently acquired by Linkedin, and is based in Mountain View, CA. For more information, please visit www.pulse.me.see less Website: http://www.linkedin.com/pulse/content Industry: Computer SoftwareType: Privately HeldCompany Size 11-50 employees Founded: 2010
  6. Formats: JPG, GIF, PNG. Max size: 4 MB
  7. Peer recommendations are not as strong.  Status: indicate you are looking for employment.
  8. send recommendation requests:  limited to 200/time
  9. 5/14/14:  no longer able to access or create polls. Open: all LinkedIn members can join, discuss, etc. Commentary is searchable via mj search engines and can be part of FB & Twitter. Closed groups: must have approval from group owner to join. Conversations are private and not searchable via the web
  10. Use groups jobs tab; receive alerts from groups
  11. Prevent edits to your profile from appearing in LinkedIn's feed of updates, or your boss’s page
  12. Educational technology. eLearning with career growth. Acquired for $1.5 billion. 4 largest deal in social media history—WhatsApp, $19b FB; Oculus $2b FB; YouTube $1.1b Google.
