1. Film Poster Analysis
The hand juxtaposes with the puppet
as the hand shows a human-like hand,
the hand looks wrinkled, rough and
cut contrasting with the porcelain-like
face of the puppet. This shows the
depth of this character which is used
to create the fear of the audience.
Colour is also displayed within this
poster as the colours are very dark
and shadow-like. The only colours
shown in this poster are green within
the eyes. The colour green connotes
with the concept of evil. This, added
with the direct gaze of the puppet
creates a very scary feel for the
audience. The puppet also wears a red
bow tie and red lips, as this has the
connotations of blood and danger,
provoking the ultimate fear of the
audience.
The title of the film has used a blurred
drop shadow in contrasting white
sans serif fonts. This is foreshadowing
death which will be featured within
this film. Also with the slogan ‘you
scream, you die’. Added with the
colour of read creates a very uneasy
mood with the connotations of blood
and danger.

The story follows a young man
whose wife is murdered. The man
returns to his hometown to search
for answers only to discover the
ghost of a murdered ventriloquist
may have something to do with it.
The image is a close-up shot of a
puppet, this is significant to the
horror genre as the innocence is
portrayed through the ‘child toy’ to
contrast the evilness of the character.
The close up shot also exaggerates
the horror within the film and is used
to create the fear amongst the
audience.
The lighting used is low key which
conveys a sinister mood and
provokes the fear of the audience.
There is a feature called shallow
depth of field used which means the
background is blurred and the
foreground is in focus this creates the
face of the puppet more focal within
the poster and create a life like and
alive looking concept to an inanimate
object.
