Summary Of Armando Filipino
Tu Nombre
You were born with the body you were given. It wasn't your choice, this body. But you accepted it
as yours. It became you. You didn't give much thought to your body until years later, when the time
came to leave home. When you reached the door of your new home, you were stopped. "Why do
you look like that?" the person asked. You didn't know what to say at first. "This is who I am." They
glared at your response. "There's too much of you. None of us here are like that." They presented
you with a saw. "If you're going to live with us, you're going to have to do things our way." You
couldn't understand. You came all the way here, searching for a new home. You loved yourself, you
didn't want to to give half of yourself up! But you couldn't go ... Show more content on

The Origin of the Confusion
Mi padre se llama Armando Antonio Patiño Arias. When he immigrated to the US, his name became
Armando Antonio Patino.
However, that
doesn't really matter, because they were married here in the United States, and so her name became
Lina Maria Patino. And then my sister was born, and then I was born; we became Melissa and Diana
Patino. No Melissa y Diana Patiño Orrego, como la cultura de nuestros ancestros dictaba, but by
how our culture dictated.
In America, there is no borderland. There is no hyphen or de la or multiple apellidos. The patriline
swallows up the matriline whole, making half your history disappear, as if your mother and her side
of the family were of no importance to you. But they are important to me.
. So, despite what the United States says I am, I used to say that I was Patiño, and an Orrego–
Sanchez.

Japan As A Collectivist Country
Many westerners view Japan as a collectivist country that differs greatly when comparing it to
western countries such as the United States in cultural aspects. One may explain that Confucianism
plays a key role in how the Japanese society functions. Others may argue that Japan is distinctively
different and no other country share similar traits. People can see the evidence of Japan being a
collectivistic country by comparing Japan to other countries in the concept of high–context society
versus low–context society. How do Japan and other countries differ in culture? Japan is regarded as
a high–context society and on the other hand the United States is considered a low–context society.
In high–context societies, people often value relationships more than partnership. The virtue of
"harmony" is the main emphasis in high–context societies. In the United States students are often
encouraged to know how to form an argument and debate with other people to prove their opinion
and persuade other people to agree. On the contrary, Japanese students learn about teamwork
through different task and recognize oneself as a member of the society. In Japan, people discourage
competition and encourage cooperation. Unlike the United States where children are often praised
for being unique and special, Japan tends to prefer conformity and children are advised to be just
like everyone else in the group. Although it has changed throughout the past decade, before all most

A Dog Named Asthma
Everybody has had a dog at one point in his or her life. Most people have gone through the naming
process for a dog. They can't think of anything, so they just choose something random, such as
Asthma, AskHim, or AskHer. Yes, these are actual names. Would you want to be named Asthma?
Don't just say, "No, that's a strange name and it has no relevance." Think about this, would you
really want to have a dog named Asthma? Would you say that name every day and think it is
normal? Every dog has to have a good name that has relevance, easy to say, and one you like. Every
dog name has to have meaning to it. Something that you will remember why you named it that. We
named our dog Ali. Because the night we got her we were watching a show and the ... Show more

The dog could look like a Max, but you don't feel Max is a name that suit you. The dog won't really
care if it looks like a Max, only if the name is a respectable, noble name. A few dog names that
people use a lot is Max, Bailey, Belle, Rocky, Buddy, and much more. Many people name their dog
haphazard things or stupid things, but I guess they like that name. There is nothing wrong with that.
The name may be unpleasant to others nonetheless and they will most likely will judge you and that
dog name. Admit it, while reading the names that I have indicated, in your head you adjudged the
name. By either saying how stupid it was, how crazy, and how strange they are. Maybe you liked
that name, but most people would see that as a debauched excuse for a name. Everyone has a reason
why they named their dog something, and that's okay. I would still be able to argue why they
shouldn't have named them that though. Everyone could argue both sides as well. A dog might have
been named for a specific purpose, or just for fun even. I can also agree with people wanting to
name their dog something diverse. Something that is original, a name people wouldn't really think
of. But, that still doesn't give you a reason to name your dog Butter, Pork Chop, or Sushi. All
infrequent names, so if that is what you want, name your dog

Women Can do the Same Job as Men in Susan Donnelly’s Poem,...
Susan Donnelly's "Eve Names the Animals", is a short poem written to try to show the independence
and importance of Eve which is not shown in the biblical story in Genesis. She uses this as her
platform to show that women are able to do the same jobs as men, and that even one of the most
important jobs, naming the animals, could be done by a woman. Eve feels as though Adam went
about naming animals carelessly, and only named them based on appearance. It is a story of
attempted separation and self identity, things that many people will struggle with in their lives. The
story of Adam and Eve is used to help people better understand Donnelly's views on women's rights
and abilities. The main theme, to me, is Eve's attempt to separate herself ... Show more content on

While many of the obstacles women faced have been broken down, the one that the author uses as
the base for this poem, is still somewhat prevalent today. I think that if a woman has the same
education and experience as a man, she should be treated with the same respect, and given the same
opportunities as a man of equal measure. Donnelly shows Eve doing the same job as Adam, but with
more care and thought. Although I do think women may be more detail oriented, she almost
represents man as a brute and irresponsible person, which is untrue in most cases. A common thing
throughout the poem that really struck me and shows that she is using the biblical story as a
metaphor, is the fact that she never actually uses the names Adam and Eve in the story, but instead
uses the word "man" and "I." She does this so that people reading this can easily identify with this
story and will not pick sides and think any further than the task she presents. Donnelly used a very
well know story that almost everyone either understands or can identify with, and this is a very
effective way of getting a point or ideals across. Many great leaders are able to manipulate people's
views on things by giving important and historical examples that are easily identifiable. When you
look into the story from Genesis, Eve never really shows any displeasure with her role or duties.
When it came to the inciting incident of eating the forbidden fruit, it was Eve who took the first bite
and persuaded Adam

The Mead 's Milkweed Family Name Is Asclepiadaceae
The Mead's milkweed family name is Asclepiadaceae (milkweeds). Mead Milkweed is a nonwoody
plant with smooth stem, and has milky sap. This is a short–lived annual growth. It blooms in late
May to mid June with one or two clusters that produce roughly five–fourteen flowers per cluster.
The flowers are yellow–green or creamy green with purple tints. However, the seeds mature from
July until around October. A single plant may have multiple stems, which is frequently being
mistaken for individual plants. It takes on average fifteen years for it to grow and develop into a
mature adult. After it reaches the adult stage, every stem produces flowers for two to three years.
They can grow to be one or two feet tall.
Habitats include slightly moist to dry tall grass and upland prairies. Soil conditions in these habitats
range from acid and nutrient poor in Missouri. Conservation efforts include delaying haying until
September, periodic burning of prairies, and rotational grazing. In the past, Mead's milkweed was
throughout much of Missouri. It is presently found in the Osage Plains region and the St. Francois
mountains region of the Ozarks.
Adaptations allow the species to change and adjust slowly to the environment for survival. The sap
of most milkweed plants is toxic. This prevents the plants from being eaten. Some insects, however,
can eat milkweeds or sip on the milkweed nectar, which is not toxic to them. Many populations
contain genetically identical plants from being

A Replication of the Stroop Effect
A Replication of the Stroop Effect

Abstract
The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink
color of that word (i.e., to say "green" to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated
whether object–based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers
are unable to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman & Henik, 1981). In three
experiments, participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore
words that appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. The words
were congruent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled and
automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled process
when the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is shape
naming. Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the Stroop
effect, which does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead, they
proposed that automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative degree of
learning the particular tasks, not on processing speed.
Attention is thought to be selective–focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been
assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast;
whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can
conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic
and effortless to us.

The Origins Of The Family Name Selover Essay
The rarity of the family name Selover derives in part from its French origins of Seloivre in Calais.
When a descendent relocated to Holland the Dutch, simplified, for their ease, the name to Selover.
The family of cart wrights eventually had a son, Isaac Selover (b 1642) and he voyaged to New York
planting the name in the New World.
It was Asher Selover (b 1796) who brought the name to Ohio from New York in 1841 initially
buying land in Strongsville a town some 24 km southwest of Cleveland. His wife, Ruth (née Baker,
b 1810) was the daughter of a Revolutionary War veteran of Valley Forge who survived the hunger,
little clothing and lacerated feet. From wise purchase Asher became a prominent land owner and in
the end one of the leading lawyers of Cleveland. Their 's was a good size family of eight that made
the surname Selover less rare.
One of Asher 's and Ruth 's sons, Theodore Asher (b 1845) enlisted in the Ohio Infantry in 1862 on
turning 17, due to the Civil War. On his discharge, the following year, he sought a job as a railway
clerk similar to his brother Cornelius to provide additional income for their mother, Ruth, as Asher
had died in 1866, one year after the Civil War. Before Theodore married Mary Ann (née Lee, b
1845) in 1872, Theodore personal wealth was $1000 (about $20,000 in todays dollars), a decent
amount for a 27 year old. Is was certainly enough to start a family with. Theodore and Mary named
their first child Deforest Lee.

My Search Essay
The Story of My Search A person's name is the one thing that cannot be taken away from him or her.
It is the only thing that stays with us from the day we are born until the day we take our last breath.
Emily Annabelle Pierce is the name given to me by my parents. I did not choose this name or
change it in any way. My parents named me this before they knew me, but my names parallel a lot
with my character. Before my teacher assigned this project, I knew little about my name. I knew that
my parents named me Annabelle after my great grandmother. I thought that Pierce was Irish because
I knew we were of Irish descent on my father's side of the family, but I had no insight into my first
name, Emily, except that my parents liked the name. On October 1, 2015, I was assigned to research
my name and write a report. I started by going to the library and I read over many name books that
were there; however, I found Annabelle and Pierce were hard to find information on from the books.
I then turned to the internet to find more information. Over the next two weeks, I searched different
websites to learn various facts about my name. After doing this, I wanted to know personal facts
about my name, so I conducted an interview with my parents, Gene and Dina Pierce. This interview
revealed many surprising things that my parents never thought to tell me. While researching my first
name, Emily; middle name, Annabelle; and last name, Pierce, I learned that my name reveals more

Being Born Into A Family Of Illustrious Medical Names
Being born into a family of illustrious medical names, listening to the stories of success and
hardships; of a gynecologist, an orthopedic surgeon, a general surgeon and other doctors in my
immediate family, I was raised with a firm idea in my mind that I have to go the same path but make
it bigger, better and brighter than all the others who had walked the path before. Listening to the
exhilaration behind the deliveries of shoulder dystocia or breech, the adrenaline rush behind a life
saved with laparotomy and the pleasure of making people walk again, Inspired me to become a
doctor myself. I was convinced to bring out a whole new dimension and to add a new vista to an
already burgeoning empire. At a very tender age, I started visiting the hospital setting, learning not
about medicine itself but about the vast soothing impact it has on the lives of those who suffer. But it
was with time that I realized that it is your own work and no one else's that you can put in designing
your destiny. And verily to fulfill this standard I scored merit scholarship for 14 years in a row, and I
joined the oldest and most prestigious medical seat not only of the country but the entire South–
Asian subcontinent. This institute brought out all the aspects that were gifted by nature to my
personality in the most befitting manner. It was here that I realized I have been uniquely gifted to

Persuasive Essay : Family Name Gifts
Searching for a gift for people you love can be difficult, but finding a gift for people you barely
know can be almost traumatic. Especially if it's your boyfriend's parents. You want to make a good
impression, but you don't want to buy their love and affection – that never works, anyway.
There's so much to consider. You'll have to know a bit about them to find the right gift, too. Do they
love movies or a night on the town? Are they homebodies who like to fix up their home and spend
time in the garden, or do they love to take exotic vacations? Take a deep breath. It doesn't have to be
overwhelming. We're going to help.
Family Name Gifts
When you have a wall or door sign personalized with the family name – one that might be yours in
the future – you want it to be incredibly special. It should have the family name as well as a quote or
saying that will melt their hearts.
Mural Max has stretched canvases of varying sizes and colors. You can pick a color that fits in with
their great room or the kitchen wall where everyone congregates for holidays. It comes in 16 color
choices. You're bound to find one they'll love.
Underneath the family name is the saying, "like branches on a tree, we all grow in different
directions yet out roots remain as one." There's an established date at the bottom where you can put
their wedding date. With this gift, you're honoring their family, which is always an incredible gift.

British Culture And Differences Between British And...
While I have been living in the UK for two months, I have noticed many differences between British
culture and Chinese culture, especially in an aspect of social etiquette.
Britain and China are both countries that have the long history and splendid civilisations, have been
known for their ceremonies and etiquette through the ages. However, as the typical representative of
the Western culture and the Eastern culture, it can be something unique and distinct of social
etiquette between this two countries, in the aspects of meeting and greeting, visiting a home, gift–
giving, table manners, compliment and gratitude.
The British seem to be reserved when they first meet someone. The handshake is a standard way of
greeting in Britain, even for children, and there are no issues over gender. (10 British Etiquette and
Customs you should learn, 2017) Chinese people also shake hands upon meeting, merely, in the
formal or official occasion, and simultaneously lower their eyes slightly as a sign of respect. People
only nod or salute instead of shaking hands as a greeting to friends and family. In Britain, sometimes
people will embrace or kiss the other person if they are family or a very close friend. (10 British
Etiquette and Customs you should learn, 2017) In China, people seem to be more conservative
because they rarely treat others with hug or kiss unless they are the lovers. Both in Britain and
China, use people's family names is appropriate when you address an unfamiliar person.

Black America's Naming Practices
Black America's naming practices are a cultural standard which combine religious and or spiritual
belief, identity at individual, family and community levels and, empowerment, along with internal
and external perception. This is true of many cultures but it is especially important for cultures
which have been historically and or systematically marginalized. Many of the naming practices are
shared across minority and indigenous cultures. Ethnic naming is often intended to convey
meaningful messages, invoke personal and group power and even provide blessings. Unfortunately
the names are often used as a tool to further marginalization instead of one which will realize the
goal of enhanced self–determination.
Rather than attempting to understand naming practices or the names themselves, people often mock,
scorn and marginalize the person attached to the name. Jamelle Bouie, a writer from the Daily Beast,
in an article titled, "Are Black Names 'Weird,' or Are You Just Racist?", found what many black
people have been well aware of: there is a double standard concerning the uniqueness of the Black
American name versus unique White names. (Bouie) He, along with other writers and researchers
found that "job applicants with 'black–sounding' names are more likely to be rejected, regardless of
qualifications. " This raises a serious question: how can people realize self–determination if they
cannot move beyond, even, the interview stage? A possible answer is the adoption of a

The Meaning Of Jacob
The Meaning of Jacob
Jacob, a simple name, is easy to say, easy to spell, and easy to remember. Jacob comes from the
Hebrew origin, "Supplanter". Supplanter means one who follows another's heel. My name fits me.
To me, Jacob means someone who is smart, funny, and outgoing. I am very smart, at least I think so.
In real life, I am not that funny, but some people think that I am funny. I am sometimes outgoing
because if I really want to be someone's friend I just go up and ask. But I love my name. My dad
wanted me to be Rocco, but my mom wouldn't allow it. On the day of my birth, my dad was going
to change it. Birth certificate in hand, he was going to change my name to Rocco, but my mom
would dislike the name and dislike my dad even more, so he kept it. But I do love my name. My
son's middle name would be Jacob if I even have a son. Jacob is a good name. It fits who I am.
Although, I can see Jacob in a different way. In a bad way. Like "There is a disturbance in the force"
kind of feeling. The bad Jacob can mean things like menacing, mean, and unforgiving. Personally, I
can see how I can be one of those things. I am definitely not menacing, definitely no unforgiving
because I forgive people all the time. No one thinks that I am menacing because everybody tells me
that I don't look or sound intimidating. But I am mean. When I am angry or mad, I stay that way for
a long time. I wish I wasn't like that, but I am. There is nothing that change that. Numerous times, I

correct way to do it in India. When my parents got married, my mom did not want to be named Barb
Kannan or Barb Sankaran for that matter. So my parents did some brainstorming. They mixed my
mom's maiden name, Lutz, and Sankaran, my dad's first/last name; and voilà, Stanz was born.

person a good leader. A leader needs to be strong willed to control group, but also needs to be

Analysis Of The F Word By Firoozeh Dumas
What would it be like to grow up with no friends simply because your name was different from
everyone else's? Firoozeh Dumas answers this question for all of her readers when she recalls the
struggles of her childhood in her story, "The F Word." Her story is not about the actual cuss word,
but rather the struggle she had growing up in America with an Immigrant name. In her memoir,
Dumas uses humor to talk about touchy subjects and to make her piece more enjoyable for her
readers.
In Firoozeh Dumas's story, "The F Word" from Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in
America (2003), Dumas recalls her struggle of growing up in America with an Immigrant name. She
begins her story by telling us the similar struggle her brother, cousin, and friends went through right
along side of her. The kids at their school took their Iranian names, which had a special meaning in
their country, and turned them into a cruel joke. She goes on to tell us that all the immigrants knew
that moving to America would come with its own set of new challenges, but nobody expected to be
the joke of the school because of their names. Her name, Firoozeh, which means "turquoise" in
Persian, translated to "Unpronounceable" in America. At the age of twelve, Dumas was fed up of the
laughing and name calling. She tried to simplify her life by adding an American middle name to her
impossibly hard to pronounce Iranian name. Her decision for an American middle name grew
intenser after kids began calling her "Ferocious" in fifth grade. That summer when she moved to
Newport Beach, she declared to her family that she wanted to add an American middle name to her
name. Immune from mockery, she asked for suggestions from her family members and she finally
settled with the name "Julie" as her new American middle name. That afternoon, she introduced
herself for the first time as Julie to a neighbor girl her age, who coincidentally was also named Julie.
Her life in sixth grade became much simpler because people were actually remembering her name
for a change. There were only two problems: people spoke poorly about immigrants in front of her
because they didn't see her as an immigrant with her American name and she no longer felt like
herself.

Gin's: Business Analysis
At the end of this year I'm going to start a new activity, I've just created my own business whose
name is Gin's. I chose this name because first it's easy to remember due to the fact that it's a short
name and this can be helpful for my future customers because they won't forget my business, and
also because it's related to my name "Ginevra". I made this choice because I really want to be in
contact with my customers. The main products of my business are each kind of old clothes bought
by rich people that can be reused. As a service I'm going to collect these clothes and sell them to
poor people at a lower price. In this way there will be benefits for both rich and poor people;

Why Is Naming Important In Children
EMA ENRIQUEZ
PORTERVILLE COLLEGE At the age of twenty–five I became a mother for the first time and
reality hit me. As a young naïve woman, I never really put too much thought into important life
choices and the long–term consequences of any of my choices, naming my first born wasn't hard for
me because I allowed my sister, whom thought would never have children to name her, with my
other two children deciding their names wasn't about what better opportunities they would have but
rather my liking. Although, in contemplating on something as simple as naming one's child and the
effects it may have as they become adults I now realize the importance of my childrens names. I can
now hear how the names of my children sound more American than those of some of my friends and
family but I not only hear them I understand the advantages or disadvantage that they may face in
society. This was again another life choice that I had no realization of how this would affect my
children's future until now. At the age of thirty–nine I enrolled in a multicultural course, and realized
now how much culture and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When I go off to Sacred Heart School, they're gonna call me Luke because my Inupiaq name is too

Don't let yourself be duped by catfishing. Hire an investigator to help.

It might be surprising to learn that inmates in prison are allowed to email and text with others on

being deceived by people who are misrepresenting themselves.

Catfishers Commit Fraud
Investigators can use a variety of equipment to search for someone online, find out if they're in

has committed fraud or identity theft, the private investigator can turn that information over to the

The investigator will use a variety of tools to learn all the information they can about the fraudster
including monitoring systems and in–person surveillance using spy glasses or spy cams. The lengths
that the investigators goes to will depend on the client's desires.
It's unfortunate when a person believes they're meeting someone online and feels an incredible

deceived. A private investigator can find out more about the person you're talking to online if you

Mispronunciation Of My Name: A Short Story
Answering to the mispronunciation of my name was something I had adjusted to. Although it made
me cringe on the inside, my exterior smiled and accepted the regurgitation of my name from the lips
of all who called it. It wasn't until High school, when I met the ROTC instructor Sgt. Pettis, that I
gained the confidence to claim my rightful name. Sgt. Pettis wasn't my instructor but a substitute in
the absence of our usual study hall monitor. He began to call roll and expecting my name, which
was next, my arm was already in motion to show I was present, "Tonja Madison" he said. Perplexed,
I continued to extend my arm to answer roll call. When the bell rang to signal transition to our next
class, I walked over to him and asked how he knew how to pronounce my name. This genius of a
man told me he figured the J was there for a reason. I told him no one had ever said it correctly and I
was used to being called Tonya. He said "Well get unused to it. There's nothing wrong with you
speaking up for yourself." I left study hall that day with a new regard for not just my name but for
life in general.

California rapper, Nikolai Rya, dropped his first mixtape The System. A fairly lengthy project at
over 17 tracks, it was a more introspective and positive project. Rya's new mixtape here though,

The Interrelationship Between The Overcoat And Gogol
The interrelationship between "The Overcoat," written by Nikolai Gogol, and "Gogol," written by
Jhumpa Lahiri, may not be apparent at first, but with the help of "My Two Lives," also written by
Jhumpa Lahiri, one can see that both "The Overcoat" and "Gogol" are connected by ties that hold
them together. Although Gogol and the speaker in "My Two Lives" share similar backgrounds and
can directly relate to each other, Akaky can also connect to Lahiri and Gogol because all they all
yearn for acceptance from those around them. One point of comparison is the practice of naming
connects Akaky, from "The Overcoat", and Gogol together by having similar practices. Another
similarity between all three works is that each main character questions their identity, eventually
overcoming their struggle of being seen as different.
Both Akaky Akakiyevich, and Gogol Ganguli live in cultures where their names have substantial
meaning. Although the way that a person is named differs from culture to culture, the naming
process has similar characteristics. Readers can infer from both "The Overcoat" and "Gogol" that
names in Russian and Bengali have significant meaning and helps shape who the person is when
they grow older. However, one thing that varies greatly between these two cultures is when they are
named and how many names they have. In Russian culture, the name is picked after the baby is
born, in which the mother or elders give the child a name and hope that he or she will live up to the

My Name In My Family
Often names are chosen for a variety of different reasons; maybe the parents just liked it, it might be
a name that's in the family for generations, or maybe it's chosen to pay homage to someone that was
lost. The story of how my name, "Jessica Lorraine", came to about began many years before my
birth. There are countless reasons my parents chose my first and middle name, but the biggest
decision they had to make was choosing my first name. Through the years before my birth a tragedy
struck my family, and it brought great heartache to many. Although this tragedy brought great
sorrow to the members of my family, my parents were able to take this pain and form it into a base
for the name of their next child. A few years before my birth, in 1998, the death of my uncle Jason
Crowe struck my mother's side of the family. His unexpected death affected the whole family; he
had a large influence on everyone he met and had close relationships with all four of his siblings,
including my mother Lorraine. Since this greatly affected my mother, she wanted to remember him
in a special way. What other way to honor someone's life than naming one of your children after
them. "I wanted to have my second child's name start with a J, just like Jason's." My mother thought
and then told her idea to the rest of her family and my father, Andy.
To begin the search, my parents rummaged through different baby books trying to find the perfect
name for their next child. They went through a variety of

Should Women Take A Husband's Last Name In The United States
One Family Name
Today in the United States, there is a more frequent trend for women to keep their last name after
marriage. It should be unacceptable in modern times for a wife to disagree with her spouse about
legally changing her last name to his. The whole idea of marriage is for two people to leave behind
their individuality, and join together as one unit. Sharing the same name is a symbol that both people
have committed to this union without any reservations. Although some people may argue that the
man should take the woman's last name, this is easier said than done. In all but nine states in the
United States a whole separate legal name–changing procedure is required for a man to take his
wife's last name. However, a woman can easily change her name through the marriage process
alone. Even in contemporary America, a woman should take their husband's last name after marriage
because it will not only benefit them, but it will also benefit their children, their ... Show more

After all, a marriage is two people joining together to become one. The woman taking her husband's
last name shows that she is committing herself to be his wife. If a woman has reservations about
taking her husband's last name, then how can she be confident about being his wife. A woman that
keeps her maiden name is trying to move forward into a marriage union while still clinging to her
past of being a single individual. The man has to do the asking, take on the bills, be the provider and
caretaker of the family, it is only right that his last name be taken by his new wife. If the family were
to get monograms done or build a family tree for decoration, it would not feel united having
different last names on it. A wife taking a husband's last name is one of the ways that a couple
demonstrates their oneness. Also, this sharing of a name signifies a union in all areas of a couple's

Relationship Between Language And Symbol
The definition of a symbol according to Merriam–Webster Dictionary is something that stands for
something else by reason of relationship or association; and can either be letters, pictures, an action,
object or event. Symbols are not restricted to pictures or objects, but can include gestures as well as
words. Symbol use is necessarily not just for infants, but adults as well and is crucial to the way
humans think. Not only does something such as a map serve as a symbol but words such as
"wedding ring" can also be seen as a symbol. Therefore, it is clear that language and symbols go
hand in hand. The question that arises then is the affect of these two on learning in young children.
Many studies have been conducted studying the relationship and affect between language and
symbol use in infants. It is understood that "linguistic and symbolic abilities overlap", but language
is far more complex than learning symbols. (Namy, Waxman, 1998) When infants are first learning
words, they connect the words they're being exposed to, to the objects around them. Therefore,
"early word acquisition focuses on the symbolic nature of words." (Namy, Waxman, 1998) This
study more specifically focuses on how infants distinguish between words and other symbols and
how this relationship changes with development. A more recent study proposed that, "early word
acquisition is a function of a general symbolic ability," suggesting that infants learn words and
symbols with the same ability at the

researchers for more enhancements for the task.
In literature, NER approaches have been classified into two main streams: handcrafted rules and
machine–learning (ML) based. ML itself is classified into supervised, semi supervised and
unsupervised ML.
The approaches that have been encountered for Arabic NER are reviewed below.
2.1 Handcrafted Rule Based NER
The Rule based approach, also known as knowledge engineering approach, relies on grammar rules
coming from the linguistic knowledge and heuristic rules to identify names, such rules are
implemented as regular expressions or finite state transduction based grammar for pattern matching.

Analysis Of The F Word By Firoozeh Dumas
In Firoozeh Dumas narrative she suse the rhetorical terms ethos, pathos, logos, repetition, and
flashback."The F Word" explains how to overcome obstacles as an Iranian immigrant. She persuades
the audience that they can trust her because she's an immigrant herself . Her move to California
impacted her life forever. Dumas uses Ethos by sharing how she's received her BA from the
University of California,Berkeley. She won a PEN/USA award in 2004 and is an Iranian immigrant
herself making this narrative from someone who had first hand experience, she is someone who can
speak for those who can relate. She felt the need to write this because she never thought that her
name would affect her life in America, surprisingly she learned that her name would be conundrum
she would have to face for the rest of her life. She sends her condolences to those who have to face
the same type of situation.
Dumas explains her flashbacks to the days she would get made fun of during her childhood. It's easy
for the audience to imagine how she was when she was a child. When certain things happen to you
in your childhood they can stick with you for the rest of your life. In this case, she explains how her
name could not be pronounced and how her cousins, other iranian immigrants, would be made fun
of for the name they were given. Duma describes multiple events in such detail because she could
never forget them. Throughout this narrative she uses repetition by repeating the word "name" a
copious amount of times. The whole point of this entry was the result her name gave to her life as an
immigrant in our country. She was motivated to write when she came to a realization that her ethnic
name would become such a barrier for her and her family. In the process of writing this experience
her own father wanted to keep her maiden last name a secret for those who would eventually read it.
In the beginning of the story she makes a reference to the americans that states "move over
cinnamon and nutmeg, make way for cardamom and sumac." The reasoning behind this is that
americans are so use to the same names "spices" that they aren't use to other names "spices" and as
times are changing americans have to realize that they is

Why Are We Named?
Why are we named? The answer to this question is ridiculously simple. We are named simply for the
sake of identifying a unique individual by a specific word. Every language carries with it sentence
structure and vocabulary. Every possible thing, descriptive, or idea is named in a language. When I
speak of a mouse, I do not have to specify– "a little thing with whiskers, eyes, and a tail..." That
would be almighty confusing, describing a fair few rodents. Rather, people have developed one
sound for one thing. If every object, tangible or intangible has a word for it, why on earth shouldn't
every single individual carry a word fit precisely for them? This will be a paper on the study of
names, specifically mine– Emma Lee Ketelsen. The study of personal names is anthroponomastics,
while the study of proper names in general is onomastics, according to Wikipedia.

I was named after my father's confirmation instructor, Emma Langholt. According to Dad, it was

Summary Of Armando Filipino

  • 1. Summary Of Armando Filipino Tu Nombre You were born with the body you were given. It wasn't your choice, this body. But you accepted it as yours. It became you. You didn't give much thought to your body until years later, when the time came to leave home. When you reached the door of your new home, you were stopped. "Why do you look like that?" the person asked. You didn't know what to say at first. "This is who I am." They glared at your response. "There's too much of you. None of us here are like that." They presented you with a saw. "If you're going to live with us, you're going to have to do things our way." You couldn't understand. You came all the way here, searching for a new home. You loved yourself, you didn't want to to give half of yourself up! But you couldn't go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Origin of the Confusion Mi padre se llama Armando Antonio Patiño Arias. When he immigrated to the US, his name became Armando Antonio Patino. However, that doesn't really matter, because they were married here in the United States, and so her name became Lina Maria Patino. And then my sister was born, and then I was born; we became Melissa and Diana Patino. No Melissa y Diana Patiño Orrego, como la cultura de nuestros ancestros dictaba, but by how our culture dictated. In America, there is no borderland. There is no hyphen or de la or multiple apellidos. The patriline swallows up the matriline whole, making half your history disappear, as if your mother and her side of the family were of no importance to you. But they are important to me. . So, despite what the United States says I am, I used to say that I was Patiño, and an Orrego– Sanchez. The Ñ isn't on my keyboard A veces no soy nada ni nadie. Pero hasta cuando no lo soy, lo ... • 7. Japan As A Collectivist Country Many westerners view Japan as a collectivist country that differs greatly when comparing it to western countries such as the United States in cultural aspects. One may explain that Confucianism plays a key role in how the Japanese society functions. Others may argue that Japan is distinctively different and no other country share similar traits. People can see the evidence of Japan being a collectivistic country by comparing Japan to other countries in the concept of high–context society versus low–context society. How do Japan and other countries differ in culture? Japan is regarded as a high–context society and on the other hand the United States is considered a low–context society. In high–context societies, people often value relationships more than partnership. The virtue of "harmony" is the main emphasis in high–context societies. In the United States students are often encouraged to know how to form an argument and debate with other people to prove their opinion and persuade other people to agree. On the contrary, Japanese students learn about teamwork through different task and recognize oneself as a member of the society. In Japan, people discourage competition and encourage cooperation. Unlike the United States where children are often praised for being unique and special, Japan tends to prefer conformity and children are advised to be just like everyone else in the group. Although it has changed throughout the past decade, before all most all female Japanese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A Dog Named Asthma Everybody has had a dog at one point in his or her life. Most people have gone through the naming process for a dog. They can't think of anything, so they just choose something random, such as Asthma, AskHim, or AskHer. Yes, these are actual names. Would you want to be named Asthma? Don't just say, "No, that's a strange name and it has no relevance." Think about this, would you really want to have a dog named Asthma? Would you say that name every day and think it is normal? Every dog has to have a good name that has relevance, easy to say, and one you like. Every dog name has to have meaning to it. Something that you will remember why you named it that. We named our dog Ali. Because the night we got her we were watching a show and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dog could look like a Max, but you don't feel Max is a name that suit you. The dog won't really care if it looks like a Max, only if the name is a respectable, noble name. A few dog names that people use a lot is Max, Bailey, Belle, Rocky, Buddy, and much more. Many people name their dog haphazard things or stupid things, but I guess they like that name. There is nothing wrong with that. The name may be unpleasant to others nonetheless and they will most likely will judge you and that dog name. Admit it, while reading the names that I have indicated, in your head you adjudged the name. By either saying how stupid it was, how crazy, and how strange they are. Maybe you liked that name, but most people would see that as a debauched excuse for a name. Everyone has a reason why they named their dog something, and that's okay. I would still be able to argue why they shouldn't have named them that though. Everyone could argue both sides as well. A dog might have been named for a specific purpose, or just for fun even. I can also agree with people wanting to name their dog something diverse. Something that is original, a name people wouldn't really think of. But, that still doesn't give you a reason to name your dog Butter, Pork Chop, or Sushi. All infrequent names, so if that is what you want, name your dog ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Women Can do the Same Job as Men in Susan Donnelly’s Poem,... Susan Donnelly's "Eve Names the Animals", is a short poem written to try to show the independence and importance of Eve which is not shown in the biblical story in Genesis. She uses this as her platform to show that women are able to do the same jobs as men, and that even one of the most important jobs, naming the animals, could be done by a woman. Eve feels as though Adam went about naming animals carelessly, and only named them based on appearance. It is a story of attempted separation and self identity, things that many people will struggle with in their lives. The story of Adam and Eve is used to help people better understand Donnelly's views on women's rights and abilities. The main theme, to me, is Eve's attempt to separate herself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While many of the obstacles women faced have been broken down, the one that the author uses as the base for this poem, is still somewhat prevalent today. I think that if a woman has the same education and experience as a man, she should be treated with the same respect, and given the same opportunities as a man of equal measure. Donnelly shows Eve doing the same job as Adam, but with more care and thought. Although I do think women may be more detail oriented, she almost represents man as a brute and irresponsible person, which is untrue in most cases. A common thing throughout the poem that really struck me and shows that she is using the biblical story as a metaphor, is the fact that she never actually uses the names Adam and Eve in the story, but instead uses the word "man" and "I." She does this so that people reading this can easily identify with this story and will not pick sides and think any further than the task she presents. Donnelly used a very well know story that almost everyone either understands or can identify with, and this is a very effective way of getting a point or ideals across. Many great leaders are able to manipulate people's views on things by giving important and historical examples that are easily identifiable. When you look into the story from Genesis, Eve never really shows any displeasure with her role or duties. When it came to the inciting incident of eating the forbidden fruit, it was Eve who took the first bite and persuaded Adam ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Mead 's Milkweed Family Name Is Asclepiadaceae The Mead's milkweed family name is Asclepiadaceae (milkweeds). Mead Milkweed is a nonwoody plant with smooth stem, and has milky sap. This is a short–lived annual growth. It blooms in late May to mid June with one or two clusters that produce roughly five–fourteen flowers per cluster. The flowers are yellow–green or creamy green with purple tints. However, the seeds mature from July until around October. A single plant may have multiple stems, which is frequently being mistaken for individual plants. It takes on average fifteen years for it to grow and develop into a mature adult. After it reaches the adult stage, every stem produces flowers for two to three years. They can grow to be one or two feet tall. Habitats include slightly moist to dry tall grass and upland prairies. Soil conditions in these habitats range from acid and nutrient poor in Missouri. Conservation efforts include delaying haying until September, periodic burning of prairies, and rotational grazing. In the past, Mead's milkweed was throughout much of Missouri. It is presently found in the Osage Plains region and the St. Francois mountains region of the Ozarks. Adaptations allow the species to change and adjust slowly to the environment for survival. The sap of most milkweed plants is toxic. This prevents the plants from being eaten. Some insects, however, can eat milkweeds or sip on the milkweed nectar, which is not toxic to them. Many populations contain genetically identical plants from being ... • 15. A Replication of the Stroop Effect A Replication of the Stroop Effect Kimber–Ann Cook Broughton High School 3/26/08 Ms. Greene IB Psychology SL 1, 738 Abstract The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink color of that word (i.e., to say "green" to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated whether object–based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers are unable to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman & Henik, 1981). In three experiments, participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore words that appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. The words were congruent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled and automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled process when the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is shape naming. Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the Stroop effect, which does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead, they proposed that automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative degree of learning the particular tasks, not on processing speed. Attention is thought to be selective–focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast; whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic and effortless to us. Methods Design The independent variable was represented by three conditions; three word lists printed in a variety of color inks. Two of the lists consisted of word colors; one in black ink and the other in incongruent colors. The third list consisted of square blocks in contrasting colors. • 21. The Origins Of The Family Name Selover Essay The rarity of the family name Selover derives in part from its French origins of Seloivre in Calais. When a descendent relocated to Holland the Dutch, simplified, for their ease, the name to Selover. The family of cart wrights eventually had a son, Isaac Selover (b 1642) and he voyaged to New York planting the name in the New World. It was Asher Selover (b 1796) who brought the name to Ohio from New York in 1841 initially buying land in Strongsville a town some 24 km southwest of Cleveland. His wife, Ruth (née Baker, b 1810) was the daughter of a Revolutionary War veteran of Valley Forge who survived the hunger, little clothing and lacerated feet. From wise purchase Asher became a prominent land owner and in the end one of the leading lawyers of Cleveland. Their 's was a good size family of eight that made the surname Selover less rare. One of Asher 's and Ruth 's sons, Theodore Asher (b 1845) enlisted in the Ohio Infantry in 1862 on turning 17, due to the Civil War. On his discharge, the following year, he sought a job as a railway clerk similar to his brother Cornelius to provide additional income for their mother, Ruth, as Asher had died in 1866, one year after the Civil War. Before Theodore married Mary Ann (née Lee, b 1845) in 1872, Theodore personal wealth was $1000 (about $20,000 in todays dollars), a decent amount for a 27 year old. It is the only thing that stays with us from the day we are born until the day we take our last breath. Emily Annabelle Pierce is the name given to me by my parents. I did not choose this name or change it in any way. My parents named me this before they knew me, but my names parallel a lot with my character. Before my teacher assigned this project, I knew little about my name. I knew that my parents named me Annabelle after my great grandmother. I thought that Pierce was Irish because I knew we were of Irish descent on my father's side of the family, but I had no insight into my first name, Emily, except that my parents liked the name. On October 1, 2015, I was assigned to research my name and write a report. I started by going to the library and I read over many name books that were there; however, I found Annabelle and Pierce were hard to find information on from the books. I then turned to the internet to find more information. Over the next two weeks, I searched different websites to learn various facts about my name. After doing this, I wanted to know personal facts about my name, so I conducted an interview with my parents, Gene and Dina Pierce. This interview revealed many surprising things that my parents never thought to tell me. While researching my first name, Emily; middle name, Annabelle; and last name, Pierce, I learned that my name reveals more about me than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being Born Into A Family Of Illustrious Medical Names Being born into a family of illustrious medical names, listening to the stories of success and hardships; of a gynecologist, an orthopedic surgeon, a general surgeon and other doctors in my immediate family, I was raised with a firm idea in my mind that I have to go the same path but make it bigger, better and brighter than all the others who had walked the path before. Listening to the exhilaration behind the deliveries of shoulder dystocia or breech, the adrenaline rush behind a life saved with laparotomy and the pleasure of making people walk again, Inspired me to become a doctor myself. I was convinced to bring out a whole new dimension and to add a new vista to an already burgeoning empire. At a very tender age, I started visiting the hospital setting, learning not about medicine itself but about the vast soothing impact it has on the lives of those who suffer. But it was with time that I realized that it is your own work and no one else's that you can put in designing your destiny. And verily to fulfill this standard I scored merit scholarship for 14 years in a row, and I joined the oldest and most prestigious medical seat not only of the country but the entire South– Asian subcontinent. While I have been living in the UK for two months, I have noticed many differences between British culture and Chinese culture, especially in an aspect of social etiquette. Britain and China are both countries that have the long history and splendid civilisations, have been known for their ceremonies and etiquette through the ages. However, as the typical representative of the Western culture and the Eastern culture, it can be something unique and distinct of social etiquette between this two countries, in the aspects of meeting and greeting, visiting a home, gift– giving, table manners, compliment and gratitude. The British seem to be reserved when they first meet someone. The handshake is a standard way of greeting in Britain, even for children, and there are no issues over gender. (10 British Etiquette and Customs you should learn, 2017) Chinese people also shake hands upon meeting, merely, in the formal or official occasion, and simultaneously lower their eyes slightly as a sign of respect. People only nod or salute instead of shaking hands as a greeting to friends and family. In Britain, sometimes people will embrace or kiss the other person if they are family or a very close friend. (10 British Etiquette and Customs you should learn, 2017) In China, people seem to be more conservative because they rarely treat others with hug or kiss unless they are the lovers. • 33. Black America's Naming Practices Black America's naming practices are a cultural standard which combine religious and or spiritual belief, identity at individual, family and community levels and, empowerment, along with internal and external perception. This is true of many cultures but it is especially important for cultures which have been historically and or systematically marginalized. Many of the naming practices are shared across minority and indigenous cultures. Ethnic naming is often intended to convey meaningful messages, invoke personal and group power and even provide blessings. Unfortunately the names are often used as a tool to further marginalization instead of one which will realize the goal of enhanced self–determination. Rather than attempting to understand naming practices or the names themselves, people often mock, scorn and marginalize the person attached to the name. Jamelle Bouie, a writer from the Daily Beast, in an article titled, "Are Black Names 'Weird,' or Are You Just Racist?", found what many black people have been well aware of: there is a double standard concerning the uniqueness of the Black American name versus unique White names. (Bouie) He, along with other writers and researchers found that "job applicants with 'black–sounding' names are more likely to be rejected, regardless of qualifications. " This raises a serious question: how can people realize self–determination if they cannot move beyond, even, the interview stage? A possible answer is the adoption of a ... • 35. The Meaning Of Jacob The Meaning of Jacob Jacob, a simple name, is easy to say, easy to spell, and easy to remember. Jacob comes from the Hebrew origin, "Supplanter". Supplanter means one who follows another's heel. My name fits me. To me, Jacob means someone who is smart, funny, and outgoing. I am very smart, at least I think so. In real life, I am not that funny, but some people think that I am funny. I am sometimes outgoing because if I really want to be someone's friend I just go up and ask. But I love my name. My dad wanted me to be Rocco, but my mom wouldn't allow it. On the day of my birth, my dad was going to change it. Birth certificate in hand, he was going to change my name to Rocco, but my mom would dislike the name and dislike my dad even more, so he kept it. But I do love my name. My son's middle name would be Jacob if I even have a son. Jacob is a good name. It fits who I am. Although, I can see Jacob in a different way. In a bad way. Like "There is a disturbance in the force" kind of feeling. The bad Jacob can mean things like menacing, mean, and unforgiving. Personally, I can see how I can be one of those things. I am definitely not menacing, definitely no unforgiving because I forgive people all the time. No one thinks that I am menacing because everybody tells me that I don't look or sound intimidating. • 42. Analysis Of The F Word By Firoozeh Dumas What would it be like to grow up with no friends simply because your name was different from everyone else's? Firoozeh Dumas answers this question for all of her readers when she recalls the struggles of her childhood in her story, "The F Word." Her story is not about the actual cuss word, but rather the struggle she had growing up in America with an Immigrant name. In her memoir, Dumas uses humor to talk about touchy subjects and to make her piece more enjoyable for her readers. In Firoozeh Dumas's story, "The F Word" from Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America (2003), Dumas recalls her struggle of growing up in America with an Immigrant name. She begins her story by telling us the similar struggle her brother, cousin, and friends went through right along side of her. The kids at their school took their Iranian names, which had a special meaning in their country, and turned them into a cruel joke. She goes on to tell us that all the immigrants knew that moving to America would come with its own set of new challenges, but nobody expected to be the joke of the school because of their names. Her name, Firoozeh, which means "turquoise" in Persian, translated to "Unpronounceable" in America. At the age of twelve, Dumas was fed up of the laughing and name calling. She tried to simplify her life by adding an American middle name to her impossibly hard to pronounce Iranian name. Her decision for an American middle name grew intenser after kids began calling her "Ferocious" in fifth grade. That summer when she moved to Newport Beach, she declared to her family that she wanted to add an American middle name to her name. Immune from mockery, she asked for suggestions from her family members and she finally settled with the name "Julie" as her new American middle name. That afternoon, she introduced herself for the first time as Julie to a neighbor girl her age, who coincidentally was also named Julie. Her life in sixth grade became much simpler because people were actually remembering her name for a change. There were only two problems: people spoke poorly about immigrants in front of her because they didn't see her as an immigrant with her American name and she no longer felt like herself. ... The Interrelationship Between The Overcoat And Gogol The interrelationship between "The Overcoat," written by Nikolai Gogol, and "Gogol," written by Jhumpa Lahiri, may not be apparent at first, but with the help of "My Two Lives," also written by Jhumpa Lahiri, one can see that both "The Overcoat" and "Gogol" are connected by ties that hold them together. Although Gogol and the speaker in "My Two Lives" share similar backgrounds and can directly relate to each other, Akaky can also connect to Lahiri and Gogol because all they all yearn for acceptance from those around them. One point of comparison is the practice of naming connects Akaky, from "The Overcoat", and Gogol together by having similar practices. Another similarity between all three works is that each main character questions their identity, eventually overcoming their struggle of being seen as different. Both Akaky Akakiyevich, and Gogol Ganguli live in cultures where their names have substantial meaning. Although the way that a person is named differs from culture to culture, the naming process has similar characteristics. Readers can infer from both "The Overcoat" and "Gogol" that names in Russian and Bengali have significant meaning and helps shape who the person is when they grow older. • 58. My Name In My Family Often names are chosen for a variety of different reasons; maybe the parents just liked it, it might be a name that's in the family for generations, or maybe it's chosen to pay homage to someone that was lost. The story of how my name, "Jessica Lorraine", came to about began many years before my birth. There are countless reasons my parents chose my first and middle name, but the biggest decision they had to make was choosing my first name. Through the years before my birth a tragedy struck my family, and it brought great heartache to many. Although this tragedy brought great sorrow to the members of my family, my parents were able to take this pain and form it into a base for the name of their next child. A few years before my birth, in 1998, the death of my uncle Jason Crowe struck my mother's side of the family. His unexpected death affected the whole family; he had a large influence on everyone he met and had close relationships with all four of his siblings, including my mother Lorraine. Since this greatly affected my mother, she wanted to remember him in a special way. What other way to honor someone's life than naming one of your children after them. "I wanted to have my second child's name start with a J, just like Jason's." My mother thought and then told her idea to the rest of her family and my father, Andy. To begin the search, my parents rummaged through different baby books trying to find the perfect name for their next child. They went through a variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Should Women Take A Husband's Last Name In The United States One Family Name Today in the United States, there is a more frequent trend for women to keep their last name after marriage. It should be unacceptable in modern times for a wife to disagree with her spouse about legally changing her last name to his. The whole idea of marriage is for two people to leave behind their individuality, and join together as one unit. Sharing the same name is a symbol that both people have committed to this union without any reservations. Although some people may argue that the man should take the woman's last name, this is easier said than done. In all but nine states in the United States a whole separate legal name–changing procedure is required for a man to take his wife's last name. However, a woman can easily change her name through the marriage process alone. Even in contemporary America, a woman should take their husband's last name after marriage because it will not only benefit them, but it will also benefit their children, their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all, a marriage is two people joining together to become one. The woman taking her husband's last name shows that she is committing herself to be his wife. If a woman has reservations about taking her husband's last name, then how can she be confident about being his wife. A woman that keeps her maiden name is trying to move forward into a marriage union while still clinging to her past of being a single individual. The man has to do the asking, take on the bills, be the provider and caretaker of the family, it is only right that his last name be taken by his new wife. If the family were to get monograms done or build a family tree for decoration, it would not feel united having different last names on it. A wife taking a husband's last name is one of the ways that a couple demonstrates their oneness. Also, this sharing of a name signifies a union in all areas of a couple's ... • 62. Relationship Between Language And Symbol The definition of a symbol according to Merriam–Webster Dictionary is something that stands for something else by reason of relationship or association; and can either be letters, pictures, an action, object or event. Symbols are not restricted to pictures or objects, but can include gestures as well as words. Symbol use is necessarily not just for infants, but adults as well and is crucial to the way humans think. Not only does something such as a map serve as a symbol but words such as "wedding ring" can also be seen as a symbol. Therefore, it is clear that language and symbols go hand in hand. The question that arises then is the affect of these two on learning in young children. Many studies have been conducted studying the relationship and affect between language and symbol use in infants. It is understood that "linguistic and symbolic abilities overlap", but language is far more complex than learning symbols. (Namy, Waxman, 1998) When infants are first learning words, they connect the words they're being exposed to, to the objects around them. Therefore, "early word acquisition focuses on the symbolic nature of words." (Namy, Waxman, 1998) This study more specifically focuses on how infants distinguish between words and other symbols and how this relationship changes with development. A more recent study proposed that, "early word acquisition is a function of a general symbolic ability," suggesting that infants learn words and symbols with the same ability at the ... NER has reached maturity for many languages (e.g. English and French) but Arabic NER still attract researchers for more enhancements for the task. In literature, NER approaches have been classified into two main streams: handcrafted rules and machine–learning (ML) based. ML itself is classified into supervised, semi supervised and unsupervised ML. The approaches that have been encountered for Arabic NER are reviewed below. 2.1 Handcrafted Rule Based NER The Rule based approach, also known as knowledge engineering approach, relies on grammar rules coming from the linguistic knowledge and heuristic rules to identify names, such rules are implemented as regular expressions or finite state transduction based grammar for pattern matching. Analysis Of The F Word By Firoozeh Dumas In Firoozeh Dumas narrative she suse the rhetorical terms ethos, pathos, logos, repetition, and flashback."The F Word" explains how to overcome obstacles as an Iranian immigrant. She persuades the audience that they can trust her because she's an immigrant herself . Her move to California impacted her life forever. Dumas uses Ethos by sharing how she's received her BA from the University of California,Berkeley. She won a PEN/USA award in 2004 and is an Iranian immigrant herself making this narrative from someone who had first hand experience, she is someone who can speak for those who can relate. She felt the need to write this because she never thought that her name would affect her life in America, surprisingly she learned that her name would be conundrum she would have to face for the rest of her life. She sends her condolences to those who have to face the same type of situation. Dumas explains her flashbacks to the days she would get made fun of during her childhood. It's easy for the audience to imagine how she was when she was a child. When certain things happen to you in your childhood they can stick with you for the rest of your life. In this case, she explains how her name could not be pronounced and how her cousins, other iranian immigrants, would be made fun of for the name they were given. Duma describes multiple events in such detail because she could never forget them. Throughout this narrative she uses repetition by repeating the word "name" a copious amount of times. The whole point of this entry was the result her name gave to her life as an immigrant in our country. She was motivated to write when she came to a realization that her ethnic name would become such a barrier for her and her family. In the process of writing this experience her own father wanted to keep her maiden last name a secret for those who would eventually read it. In the beginning of the story she makes a reference to the americans that states "move over cinnamon and nutmeg, make way for cardamom and sumac." The reasoning behind this is that americans are so use to the same names "spices" that they aren't use to other names "spices" and as times are changing americans have to realize that they is ... • 70. Embarrassment Of The Family Name embarrassment to the family name. Akhmatova seems to have a struggle though. She complains that her and her husband, Nikolay, cannot have a normal life due to their careers, and she longs for a normal family life. This is something that is commonly seen today, where working mothers must struggle between making money and having a career and devoting time to their families. Nikolay blames Akhmatova's career on their abnormal family life, and she complains that he does not give her enough affection. He openly admits that he cheats on her and claims that his affairs are part of her muse. Later, it is also revealed that she has written a poem praising Stalin in order to save her career. She has conflict in both her personal life and her art. She appears to be somewhat unreliable and unsure of what she wants. She cannot decide if she wants a family or a writing career, and she gives up her independence as a writer to please Stalin. Stalin eve apparently refers to her as his "whorish nun," clearly showing no respect for her as a person or an artist. Akhmatova is placed in many unfair circumstances, but it is hard to admire her when she changes positions and complains about choices she has made. Ludo is Alexei's current wife in the 1930's play, and she appears to be a superficial character who submits to her husband in most situations. • 72. Why Are We Named? Why are we named? The answer to this question is ridiculously simple. We are named simply for the sake of identifying a unique individual by a specific word. Every language carries with it sentence structure and vocabulary. Every possible thing, descriptive, or idea is named in a language. When I speak of a mouse, I do not have to specify– "a little thing with whiskers, eyes, and a tail..." That would be almighty confusing, describing a fair few rodents. Rather, people have developed one sound for one thing. If every object, tangible or intangible has a word for it, why on earth shouldn't every single individual carry a word fit precisely for them? This will be a paper on the study of names, specifically mine– Emma Lee Ketelsen. The study of personal names is anthroponomastics, while the study of proper names in general is onomastics, according to Wikipedia. Source I was named after my father's confirmation instructor, Emma Langholt. According to Dad, it was because my parents liked the name and it was a pleasant coincidence that that was her name. My father went through six years of catechetical instruction with three teachers, before being confirmed, if I remember correctly. Whenever we see her (which, regrettably, is not often), it is always "She's your namesake!" or "It's the two Emma's..." Namesakes in general are a tribute, like mine. Sometimes they are a pain... I am forever answering to people who do not want me. Popularity I was born in 2000, right as the name was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
