2. The beginning…
I am a medical student in Debrecen. I play in the
university volleyball team and I like reading, driving.
My life changed in the autumn of 2008…
Why?
I began to attend to the world's first med 2.0
course, the aim of which was to show the newest and
easiest ways of using the internet in my medical
studies and work.
3. The reason why I started to attend this lecture series
was partly because I had heard that it was a unique
course. On the other hand, I have always been so
excited about the world and the future of internet.
Now, making this presentation, I am thinking about
how difficult it is to give a summary of all the
branches and services of web 2.0.
This is beyond my scope, Bertalan Meskó, M.D. is
the one competent to deal with this.
But I should mention a few basic things which made a
good impression on me.
4.
5. What does social media mean to
me?
I am sure that anyone who makes a web 2.0 or social
media presentation begins with showing what it is at
all. Well, I will not.
I will demonstrate – through my personal experiences
– the excellent services I use every day. Those which
are necessary for a student in the 21st
century.
I will show you how the use of internet will become
more simple in your everyday life.
6. From the view of a medical
student
I decided to start with a Hungarian personal blog – called
„Thinking and Reasoning – from the view of a medical
student” (MeReNgŐ OkfEjtéS… - Egy medikus
szemszöge)
There are many ways of creating a blog and managing
with it. I heard about a lot of methods for it during the
course.
I had simple plans. My goal is to help those people who
are looking for authentic medical news on the Internet.
I would like to share my favourite health news with
everyone. So, I have begun…
7. The first steps…
I registered on blog.hu, and I have become a medical
blogger. It was a long time for me to learn how to post or
share something. There are lots of rules what you need to
keep. For example:
I use different websites as sources and I always mark them
in every post. It is an important rule to keep as you can
confirm the authenticity of the information you supplied
by this.
I use simple and clear words. I noticed that my style and
my point of view is changing continuously.
I use my real name and my own opinion. I pay attention to
give some advice as well, however, I always do it carefully,
as I am a medical student and not a doctor yet.
9. Medicina Online
The next step was to create something that was useful
for everyone, especially for medical students.
Me and one of my colleagues, Anita Brojnás M.D.
decided to make a study collection helping us to learn
on-line. We collected materials for all medical
university courses, and selected the best e-learning
sites as well.
One of them is called Medicina Online, which is a
dynamically developing site containing English and
Hungarian links, medical videos, pictures and cases.
We collected links from other medical schools as
well.
11. On weekdays…
In my opinion you do not need to browse 50-60 sites on
weekdays. Choose only some simple ones and use those!
the!
12.
13. What was my plan? I did not have any serious plan, I only
followed social media. Maybe my blog is not so succesfull
and popular yet, but the range of those showing interest to
it is becoming wider and wider. I spend a lot of time with
blogging and surfing on the internet. From the very
beginning I always write enthusiastically about my topics.
That’s the secret.
There are a lot of web 2.0 applications that I can use.
Here are the bests of them! Try these!
14. Webicina
First of all, let me show you the Webicina!
It is the most relevant, curated, medical social media
resource. It contains 80 medical topics, refers to 3000
resources and you can reach it in 17 languages.
You can dynamically follow its resources through
PeRSSonalized Medicine that is a free, easy-to-use,
multi-lingual aggregation of quality medical information,
which lets you select your favourite resources and read
the latest news and articles about a medical specialty or a
medical condition in one personalized place.
I think this is the easiest way to follow the medical news. I
am plesured that my Hungarian blog can be found among
its cited medical blogs.
15. Facebook
Maybe the best site for sharing something or to

21. Conclusion
„We don’t have a choice on whether we DO social
media, the question is HOW WELL WE DO IT.”
by Eric Qualman
22. The message…
„That's a very limited life. Life can be much broader
once you discover one simple fact, and that is
everything around you that you call life was made up
by people that were no smarter than you, and you can
change it, you can influence it, you can build your
own things that other people can use. Um, once you
learn that, you'll never be the same again.”
by Steve Jobs
