1. Twitter is one of the biggest social networking and micro blogging services
to date. It allows users to send and read ‘tweets’ 140 character text
messages.
I use twitter to socialize with friends and also see what different celebrities
are doing. I like to retweet and share things that my friends or other people
have said if I agree.
I like twitter because I can keep in touch with people I don’t live near, I can
keep updated with the celebrities I follow and can share my opinions with
people.
2. Facebook is the largest social working network site with over a billion users. Facebook is
Mark Zuckerbergs invention created on February 4th, 2004 alongside his roommates and
fellow Harvard university students. Facebook is used by business’ to promote and
advertise and is a big platform for viral marketing with pictures and videos hitting millions
of views across the web.
I use Facebook to stay in contact with friends and family who don’t live near, I find it a
really useful way to share pictures with my family and see what they're all up to as well
and I can also chat free on the messenger application. The disadvantages to Facebook is
like with all social networking sites nothing is private and a lot of trouble can be coursed
if the wrong things are posted.
3. Instagram is a free online social network site for photo-sharing and video-
sharing. It allows you to apply a range of digital filters to them and share
them on other social network sites such as Facebook, twitter, Tumblr etc.
I use Instagram to share all my latest images and funny videos with my
followers who are made up of friends and family I also like to view their
images and I follow a few celebrities that I like to see what they’re doing. I've
found lately Instagram has been have trouble and it keeps freezing and going
off for long periods of the day due to technical reasons.
4. Blogger started off as a small company called Pyra Labs in 1999 in San Francisco
by three friends. They were trying to create something for the internet and while
in the process they created blogger and decided to go with that. They went bust
after a while but then started to pick up again by 2002. Then in 2003 Google
bought them, the blogs are normally hosted by google at a subdomain of
blogspot.com.
I use blogger regular to upload my college work for my lecturer to mark and
comment on, I think this is a really useful way to keep in touch with my lecture
and be able to share my work so its marked straight away. Disadvantages are you
need internet to use blogger and it can sometimes be complicated to upload
power points and long documents onto the site.
5. Wiki is a web application which allows people to freely
change, add or delete content from a web page. The main
method of wiki is Wikipedia us a internet based free
encyclopaedia.
I use Wikipedia a lot to find out information and different
subjects I find it useful as it also references other helpful
links to find information on however it can sometime be
misleading as not all the information is accurate so you
need to check it on other websites to
6. Electronic mail referred to as Email is the method of
exchanging digital messages from one person to another.
They are loads of different email services, Gmail is one of the
most popular ones and the one I use as it offers one gigabyte
of storage which is almost five hundred times more than
Microsoft's Hotmail.
I think Gmail is great as I use it to stay in contact with work
colleges, lectures, shops and family most things require you to
have email these days whether its for online shopping or to
sign into social networking sites.
7. Instant messaging is a method of chat where both
users have to be online at the same time.
I use instant messaging all the time as I speak to most
of my friends over WhatsApp as it is free and you can
also have group chats with a number of people at the
same time. You need strong 3g or Wi-Fi connection to
use it and it can sometime be very slow in sending and
receiving messages
