1. Above you can see Bob
Marley’s album Kaya. I
choose to pick Bob Marley
to analysis one of his
album covers because
there is a lot to talk about.
As you can see the green,
yellow and red band of
colour along the top
symbolises the Rastafarian
religion that Bob Marley is
a part of. It also is a big
symbol for reggae music
as the colours are well
know worldwide.

Bob Marley’s Kaya albumBy Alex Feeney
The big picture of Bob Marley also has the same tones of Rastafarian
colours in the picture. You can see the subtle yellows and reds with the
bright green. This helps to show the audience that bob Marley is part of
this religion and spreads love and happiness just like the religion.
Furthermore Bob Marley has his own logo on his album to show that the
album is legit and to help promote other media or merchandise that he
may have. Furthermore his label has its logo on the album to, to help
promote there other artist and more of Bob Marley’s music.
The songs list are located
normally in the middle of
the album cover, however
this is not the case with
this album as the song list
is slightly to the right of
the cover. This is done so
that the cover can exploit
the big picture of Bob
Marley with his hand in a
fist. He has his hand in a
fist and in the air as this is
how many religions
especially Rastafarians
show love to an audience
or crowd, as this is a big
part of Rastafarian culture.
This also links in t the
songs, as one of the songs
is called ‘Is this love’.
2. Textural analysis
Here you can see the back of
Jimi Hendrix album ‘The Jimi
Hendrix experience’. One of the
main reasons this album is so
famous other than the front
cover, is because of the photo
of the 3 musicians on the back,
these 3 are Jimi, the drummer
and the basest. This photo is
used in a very significant way on
this album. The lighting is used
behind the 3 musicians to make
them look special and like
angles, however Jimi has the
most light going around him
head which means they have
singled him out as the ‘angle’ as
he is in the middle. Furthermore
the use of black and white
colouring makes the ban look
attractive and suffocated.

You can see that the songs list is not
the main part of this album, and they
are at the top in small font, this is
done to extenuate the photo, as that
is the main part of the album cover.
Furthermore the bar code is in the top
right hand corner. This has been done
so that it doesn’t hide the picture from
the audience. The use off black cloths
makes the artists look unknown and
the same hair cut makes them seem
like they are all on the same wave
length, meaning they all know how to
make good music for the follow
Above you can see that although the photo takes up 65% of the back of the album,
they have still been able to put the legal copy right information, letting the public
know that any copy right will be punished. Furthermore you can just see in the
lower corners on the album covers that there are little pictures and the are the
labels logo or Jimi Hendrix’s logo to show that it is legitimate and to also promote
themselves and get themselves even more noticed.
