1. I am going to call my college magazine, College Of Rock. I feel this will be a
popular choice as many people would want to read a music magazine in college. I
will do a front cover and a contents page. For the front cover I will use Photoshop
and for the contents page I will use Quark Express. I have decided to charge £2
each month for the magazine as many students won’t want to pay much more for
a magazine. The picture used on my front cover was of my Step-brother which I
took. I wanted him to look as ‘old’ as possible and wear typical college attire
(jeans and a shirt) and his guitar to tell people what the magazine is about
without even having to look at the title. which is also similar to rock music fashion
but I felt if I used black jeans, band t-shirt and look like a rock star then some
people may be put off buying the magazine as it isn’t for them. It will have
roughly 60 pages each issue as this is good value for money and not too short so it
will be read in 5 minutes or too long so it’s more like a novel. I want to include
articles that will interest the best rockers and also the amateurs wanting to
learn/know more about rock. As with most magazines there is normally
something to entice the reader to buy the magazine. For this I will include on the
front cover an offer to win something, this could be tickets, or a chance to meet
an artist. I want the text to be bold yet still quite subtle and not put people off for
being in your face, like dance music would be or something along the lines of dub
step. Also as it is a college magazine and the students are very fashion orientated I
think I will put some pictures or an article on how to be a ‘fashionable rocker’. For
the contents page I want it to be a white background with the text that stands
out. The pictures will be of an editor, some kind of student with a guitar and
whatever else depending on the articles. I want both the title and contents to be
published on the page as well as an index of the bands/artists that feature in the
magazine each week and the page they are on. With all these features I hope my
magazine will be successful and if it was to be published would sell quite well up
against similar budget/genre magazines.
