In all countries, housing presents
various problems and challenges,
however, despite the great
geographical differences, all
share the same configuration:
housing is a set of domestic
fragments. Taking into account this
configuration, the workshop seeks
the development of an innovative
housing, thinking about the daily
activities of the user and looking
for a sustainable system for its
habitability. For this, 2 activities
and 1 domestic artifact are used:
The proposal is located in the Faroe
Islands in Denmark, where the
weather is foggy almost all year
round, and will be a refuge for all
people where life and dreams will
be illuminated.
To develop them in a foggy climate
95% of the days of the year with
high wind gusts recorded, but with
sultry weather during the summer.
It also presents snow storms for 4
months in a row. It is important to
achieve an architectural proposal
that values the activities and the
artifact in the mentioned context.

The proposal uses a new system called Windstalk, this system uses the strong winds
of the area to create energy through the constant movement of the central pole, the
energy is stored in a subway container to distribute it through the main structure to the
living spaces, creating a new celestial vault ready to dream.

In the permanent reflection on the good housing conditions that the city must unquestionably provide
for its inhabitants and that architects must design, it is the transformation of existing buildings that
provides better criteria for housing quality, sustainability, economy, waste and carbon emission
reduction. The workshop seeks to explore and value the potential reuse of an obsolete industrial
facility in the city of Zurich, Switzerland, to convert it into a mixed-use structure and housing, to foster
better living conditions for all.
| The Concept |
| The Assignment |
The dwelling must have the following qualities
Generosity - Freespace and extra-space - Capacity of appropriation
Transparency - Inside outside continuity - Movement - Open structure
Private outdoor space - Space of transition - Pleasure and imagination

The proposal transforms an
obsolete industrial building
into a mixed-use building,
providing public spaces,
services and housing.
The solution promotes
good living conditions,
achieving generous spaces,
providing free spaces and
extras within the housing,
facilitates the ability to
appropriate space with the
help of an open structure,
and allows the transition
between private and public
space, achieving adequate
interaction with the context.

The workshop seeks to analyze and reconsider the functions of the home, for this it provides
a specific configuration for its development: The integration of working inside the living. The
proposal should be located in a traditional city block in Barcelona, Spain, and should densify the
space without losing the quality of life of the dwellings.
We had to understand
what working means these
days, and we realized that
now the space for working
has become related to the
spaces for living, so much
so that they are not identified
as separate elements but
integrated. You can work
anywhere, if you have the
necessary support elements.

We create a new central space to work with all the necessary suppot elements around
it and that at the same time can serve the living spaces. This is how an adequate link
between the need to work and living spaces is achieved. With this idea, we developed
4 typo: a house with one bed, other with two beds, another with three beds and a
house with the possibility of extension for large group of people.

The growth of many cities has not been planned, this has caused their development
to produce residual lots which are difficult to design, however people with the need to
have a space to inhabit manage to occupy these spaces turning them into their homes.
The workshop looks to value this way of living, requesting to densify a plot of land in the
city of Kila, in Split, Croatia, where the lots and the geography are irregular.
Kila is a port city where high quality
ships are manufactured. These are
built with an ancestral technique
that values the space between the
structure and the object for the work,
in addition, its constructive process
is developed in parts achieving a
progressive advance in section.

The proposal tries to show
that there are no residual
spaces, but misunderstood
spaces. Because every
space is useful if someone
needs it and it´s the ordinary
activities that prove it. Like
builders used the residual
space between the structure
and the boat to work, now
our project give this space to
build their future homes. If we
look closely at the ordinary
activities of life we can
understand that architecture
is born with necessity,
developed with freedom and
established for the future.

The Corrala is a historical typology of housing in Madrid, where a collective way of life
could be developed. The workshop asks to examine the qualities of the Corrala in order to
reinterpret it and propose a collective housing for creators, artisans and artists. It is important
that the proposal values the identity of the place, reinforces new lifestyles and revives the
neighborhood with a memorable space where the community can emerge.
During our visit to the site, we identify the social quality of neighborhood and
the spatial qualities of the tipologies. We want to separate them into objective
elements and subjective qualities. To understand the elements that are important
in the area and the qualities that we must reinforce in the proposal.

In Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Chacara Florida favela is located in a natural context and
unfortunately, its development has deteriorated the site, changing the course of small
rivers and killing the vegetation. It’s important to develop proposals that dissolve the rigid
limits between vulnerable housing and the landscape, to achieve a new urban-natural pact.
We began our research by
understanding the different
situations that necessity or
life forced them to build. They
themselves created their shadows,
themselves found the materials,
themselves accommodated to the
context and themselves created
the spaces they needed to live
and develop overtime. And if we
try to make a technical analysis,
for example in its facades, we
find a wealth of shapes and
voids that were made by itself.

In construction, we find diverse processes where it is always about winning area and
where the extension of the columns are the meaning of a better future. We find urban
faces and constructive processes, particular and personal. This is well understood in
the poem by the Uruguayan poet Eduardo Galeano called, A sea of tiny flames.
Basic structure
Occupy the structure
Complete the extension
Extend the structure
A man from the town of Neguá,
on the coast of Colombia,
managed to go up the high sky.
On the way back, he said he had contemplated,
from up there, human life.
And he said that we are a sea of tiny flames.
That’s what the world is, he revealed.
A bunch of people,
a sea of flames.
Each person glows with their own light among all the others.
There are big flames and small flames,
and flames of all colors.
There are people of serene flame,
who don’t even notice the wind,
and there are people of crazy flames,
who fill the air with sparks.
Some flames, silly flames,
don’t light or burn;
but others burn life with so much passion
that you can’t look at them without blinking,
and when you get close,
light up.

deterioration of the neighborhood.
